Kevin from the Kevin Pellet Podcast. Here day three loud
in life. I have a legend in front of me.
It's tech nine. How many today? I'm good man, Thanks
for having me course, thanks for being here. Man, this

(00:20):
is my first one today. Yes, but you're a stranger
to the Danny Wimmer Presents festival.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
So you've played.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
It's on a temple, you've played. I mean, this is
a crazy world you're in.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
Yes, it is. Why do you do this? I do
it because I love to infect the people man. Of course,
beautiful music, and early on in my career, you know,
I was well, early on before my career, introduced to
rock music early on as a kid, you know what
I mean. And I've been incorporating it in my hip
hop since the very beginning. So now it's paying off

(00:49):
all these years later.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
And that's kind of where the crossover happens. I was
gonna ask you, how do you involved in this world?
But there we go. What what were some of the
albums I got you.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
Involved, well you mean rock album. Yeah, yeah, Oh well
let's see, you're like, this is some pretty cool shit. Well,
early on, you know, I was born in seventy one,
so so the doors hit me, you know, early, you
know what I mean. And later on it was you know,
system of a down live not you know what I mean,

(01:22):
stone table pilots. You know what I'm saying. I was
a MTV baby, you know what I mean.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
That when yeah, yeah, they actually played music right right
right right right.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
Yeah. So it just goes on and on and on, man,
you know what I mean.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
And speaking of music, I mean, we're here in twenty
twenty five and you just put on a new record.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
Yes, I did. Man fifty eighty sixteen Forest Man my
origin story, and I took it all the way back
to like in the hood where when my mom married
a Muslim, My Christan mom married a Muslim when I
was twelve, and he moved us in a blood gang neighborhood,
you know. And he didn't know that of course, but
you know, the album takes you all the way back
to that. You hear the origins of.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
Tech nine, you know, and just carries you through as
the album progresses. Yes, the whole thing.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
Yes, from twelve years old, when I moved in fifty
sixteenth for US till age seventeen, when I ran away
from home, you know what I mean. And I own
the quest to become Tech nine. You know, Thank God
I became Tech nine. You know.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
So, what can fans expect listening to this new album?
Maybe they haven't heard it just yet. I want to
hear it. Why are they going to expect?

Speaker 2 (02:22):
They're going to expect gritty Tech nine? Man? You know
what I'm sizzling. It's way at the beginning of my
hip hop journey, you know what I mean. And just
all the stories in between twelve and seventeen, all the
crazy stories that happened to me, all kind of stuff,
deals with all kinds of stuff, deals with gang violence,

(02:43):
it deals with the Christianity, Islam, race's heartbreak, everything in there.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
Anything off table?

Speaker 2 (02:51):
Yeah, no, I did not. You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 1 (02:54):
What was one of the hardest obstacles in your career
you've had to overcome and made you so much better mentally, physically,
anything like.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
That hardest thing at the beginning, telling promoters my name
was Tech nine and they didn't want to book me.
At all to where my partner Travis had to say, listen,
I don't think you understand. This is like a different
crowd Tech nine brings. You know, it's not what you think.
You know. Besides, the gang passed. They thought Tech nine

(03:24):
being a gun was going to bring the wrong element.
So my partner Travis so Glenn. He was like telling
a lot of promoters who didn't want to book me,
you know, if anything happens, we'll give the money back.
And that's how we got on wonderful And as we
started getting the shows, people saw that we were professional.

(03:49):
Promoter saw that we were professional and no problems, no nothing.
You know, of course you're going to have fights that shows,
but you know, nothing crazy, you know. But that was
one of the major obstacles in the beginning because you
have to get out here in politic if you want
to be the president, you know what I'm saying. So
what do we doing? Music? We go out there and

(04:10):
we tour to be the musical president. I used to
say the hip hop president, but I don't want to
say the musical president, you.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
Know what I'm saying. What's the day in life of
Tech nine?

Speaker 2 (04:19):
Look like the day and of life of Tech nine.
It depends because the day of life today, I had
to get up at five in the morning to leave
Kansas City at leave my home at six in the morning,
get up at five, leave my home at six an
hour to get to CACI Airport, fly out at eight,
get here. You know what I mean.

Speaker 1 (04:39):
You know, Well, let's talk about the tour life then
day of life and a tour life for.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
Tech nine, Dan of Life, tour life. I get the
most rest when I'm on tour. Whoa yes, because I
work at home, you know what I mean. I'm in the
studio and everything I have, you know, two year old
daughter at home, so I'm a father, you know what
I mean. Newly, I just got married last year, me
and my wife, you know what I mean. So when
I'm at home, I'm working. But on tour more downtime.

(05:09):
You know, I get to write. If I'm working on
an album. I wrote a lot of this album that
just came out on tour, you know, the one with
me and Lil Wayne, you know Yoda I wrote on
tour and I think I recorded it in North Carolina
or something, you know, So you know, it varies. The

(05:31):
day and A life of Tech nine on tour because
if I'm doing an album, it's radio spots even though
I have downtime. Also, I'm shooting videos for artists when
I'm coming into town. You know what I mean. On
this last tour it was video after video, dude, you
know what I mean. And when the tour dates go up,
all the artists hit you. When you in Vermont, can

(05:53):
we shoot the video? Yes? When you're in Atlanta, can
we shoot the video? Yes?

Speaker 1 (05:57):
How foreign advance is that prepared?

Speaker 2 (05:59):
Oh? Months? You know what I'm saying, like, yeah, no, no, no, no, no, no.
You know I'm so within me rehearsing with my band.
I have to also rehearse songs that I've done with
other artists prior so I can say it in the video,
you know what I mean, properly, so it can get
wild on tour with me, You know what I mean.

(06:19):
But I have the most downtime ever when I'm on tour.
That's how I take it. I get the most sleep
and everything.

Speaker 1 (06:25):
That's awesome. I've never had anyone tell me that before.

Speaker 2 (06:27):
So because I don't party no more. Man, you know,
I party way back in the day. You know what
I'm saying. I'm four years sober. Not my choice. My
doctor said, if I don't stop, I'm gonna die. I'm like, okay,
I quit. I still I still smell. I still go
downstairs every once in a while and I smell my
angels envy rhyme. I miss it, you know what I'm saying.

(06:50):
But me and my wife four years sober, you know
what I mean. Valentine's Day coming up, it will be
five years. You know what I'm saying. You know what
I mean. So I don't. I don't party anymore. I
don't think anything is more important than my voice for
the crowd. You know what I mean, So sound one
thousand percent. You know, it's really important to me to
get that sound across to the people, so they will

(07:12):
talk about it, so they will come back, so they
will tell another friend next time, you know what I mean,
bring them. Yeah. So nothing more important than my voice,
and my body too, because I'm not just one of
those guys who just stands. If you see my show tomorrow,
you'll see that I'm I'm I'm working that stage. Man.

Speaker 1 (07:34):
You're a performer, Oh yeah, totally in the crowd, totally. Yes,
it's a job, but it's yes, fun, Oh yeah, fun, Yeah,
it's fun.

Speaker 2 (07:41):
But when you're technician number one, that's me, everything is
follow me all run the clinic, to run the government.
They can never manage we do. Even the song I
did with following the reverse? You know what I mean?
You know how does it says? What does that be?
Your money? Getting in? The devil is making the crewmit
the people evil and never no. Demon is another opposite
of a divine no. Yes, you know when you want
when your TECHNIHI number one, you got to say all

(08:02):
that ship right, you know, so I don't mean a
curse if I want your love you want. Yeah. But
it's fun, but it's nervous sometimes too, because sometimes my
style is like on stages, like riding a surfboard. You
can fall, okay, you can one beat, you skip, you

(08:25):
know what I'm so. It is fun, but it's a
job as well, mental job for a mental giant.

Speaker 1 (08:34):
Now, how does one master the art of this insanely
fast wrapping.

Speaker 2 (08:39):
Kind of lingus? No, I'm joking. A lot of practice
of ings. No, a lot of practice, man, a lot
of a rehearsal. My first rhyme was in seventh grade. Now,
stopping rapping in the eighty five. But the money dollars
wrapping mc reperds want to cry. But when you hear
the vicious beboutackle through your bones, think a deal int
easasy because he stands alone. It was always sort of

(09:00):
rap it, you know what I mean. And I think
that came from early reggae, like toasting. You know what
I'm saying, bye bye bye b bye bye bye bit
ba bye bye. You know what I'm saying. Really inspired
by Slick Rick. Don't worry, but I think that you
know what I'm saying, just the way he would say,
little words and stuff, just paying attention to reggae and

(09:20):
Slick Rick and all that. Man, you know what I mean.
And it turned into tech nine.

Speaker 1 (09:24):
Man, that's awesome.

Speaker 2 (09:25):
Yeah, inspired by ice Cube as well, n W a
publican and me all that.

Speaker 1 (09:30):
Man. Of course, what's an artist you haven't collabed with yet?
That's on the wish list artist. It's a lot, you know,
I keep growing, you know.

Speaker 2 (09:40):
My partner trying to say, sometimes, you know, we work
with people that we liked as youngsters, so you know,
maybe you start paying attention to youngsters you know what
they're doing. I'm like, yeah, that's cool. But I've always
wanted to see what Trent Reznor would do with me
in a studio, you know, always always, man, you know
what I'm saying, just so, and it's Nail fan. You

(10:01):
know what I'm saying, like for real, for real and
uh you know, I followed him all over the years,
all through the years, man, and I'm like, just his
production and everything. Man, I'm like, oh, if I could
just get one track, one song, you know what I'm saying,
with him singing on it, you know what I mean,
I'll be happy.

Speaker 1 (10:17):
I asked, r is this or what genre? No matter
whether in their career, because I tag him, who knows
who is? We'll see?

Speaker 2 (10:24):
Well, I say it all the time. I'm sure like
my like I'm a fucking tech guy. You know, you
never know. But that's just on the middle side, you
know what I'm saying. But on the hip hop side,
J Cole jay Z. You know, there's not many I've
worked with already. You know what I'm saying. I bring
the song with Kendrick, I've done the song Wayne, I've
done songs with everybody, Snoop Dogg, Whiskily for you know forty.

(10:46):
You know what I'm saying, it just keeps going. You
know what I'm saying, even with the younger generation. You
know what I'm saying. So, but it's not too many
hip hop art oh nah? Yes, yes, yes, yes, and
you know, not too many left because I've I've had
a stress career. You know what I'm saying. I'm decorated, man,
I decorated him. See you know what I'm saying.

Speaker 1 (11:05):
That's fine, that's great.

Speaker 2 (11:06):
So yeah, man, Turin Resnor for sure, who else already?
I already done that. I've already done that. You know
what I'm saying. I've already done that. Me and Surge
straight out the gate. Man, it's a big song. I'm
doing it tomorrow. You know what I'm saying. Me and
Corey slip noo. We've done with her. We've done so
many songs together thus far, me and Corey. Let's see.

(11:29):
I like I like Vessel man. I like Vessel. I
like his voice, man, you know what I mean. On
some on some newer ship. You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 1 (11:36):
You see the big crowd here last night from their posts.

Speaker 2 (11:39):
No I did not they played last night.

Speaker 1 (11:42):
Yeah, yeah, I'll show you.

Speaker 2 (11:43):
I missed it. It's I've never seen him in person,
second time, really awesome. Vessel's crazy with the vocals, you know, yeah,
they practice yeah, yeah all day. It's a mush yeah, man,
collapse totally.

Speaker 1 (11:58):
Yeah, that'd be great.

Speaker 2 (11:58):
Everybody wants me to do something with Suicide Boys. I
don't think I've been I've been on I've been on
shows with them before. Yeah, but we've never met. I
don't think you know what I mean, you need to
just almost super I think it's the rect thing, you
know what I'm saying.

Speaker 1 (12:12):
What can fans expect for the remainder of twenty twenty
five going into twenty twenty six from Tech nine?

Speaker 2 (12:17):
What they can expect for the remainder of the year
A lot of touring from Tech nine. I did the
Sonic ID for the World Cup, Okay, so you can
expect more of that. That's a flex, you know what
I mean? What else?

Speaker 1 (12:32):
Man?

Speaker 2 (12:33):
I think I'm gonna start my new album decorated as
well already. Yes, that's awesome. Rine never stops. Yeah, man,
time waste forh no. Man, So since I took it
all the way back on fifty sixteen four US, I'm
gonna go forward now with all my because you know,
fift day, sixteen fours, we took it back to Kansas

(12:53):
City mob style hip hop, you know what I'm saying,
So decorated. I can go back into my super creative
mode when it comes to the beats and everything. You
know what I'm saying. So the music period, you know,
I like a lot of live instrumentation, so I can
get back to that, you know.

Speaker 1 (13:12):
All right, love to hear it. Yes, we have two
final questions for you. I ask every artist this or
where they're aroun in their career. I've actually been waiting
to ask you this all weekend.

Speaker 2 (13:22):
All right, make it good.

Speaker 1 (13:24):
What's some advice you would give to an up and
coming artist that wants to tour, that wants to move
up to next level up? Basically I get all kinds
of different answers from all different kinds of walks of life.
All right, what's your advice?

Speaker 2 (13:39):
My advice to artists who are trying to tour. The
number one thing you have to make sure you are
is dope. That's hard enough to do some wack motherfuckers
out here, man. So you have to make sure the
product that you have is something the people want to hear.

(14:01):
So you have to test it in your circle. Then
from your circle. If it's good, it'll grow and you'll
know as it grows that you're ready to get out
there to spread it to the rest of the world.
You know what I mean? So being dope, man, being
good at what you do is number one, because everybody
think they got it and everybody don't got it. And

(14:23):
don't get me wrong, some people who don't got it
make it and it makes it hard blurred lines, bro,
But the real motherfuckers we know, we know what the
talent is at.

Speaker 1 (14:33):
Oh yeah, you know it shines through it.

Speaker 2 (14:36):
Test it in your circle. Man. You have to do
your music. Share your music, man. You know what I'm saying.
What's your circle? Your feedback? Sorry, I mean it's crazy
that Sorry, get feedback and you'll know if you have
what it takes to get out of here and do
your thought.

Speaker 1 (14:54):
This will technioy awesome. Any final words for fans.

Speaker 2 (14:58):
Final words for fans, Thank you. Without you, I would
not be here right now without the swell of sales
over the years up until now, twenty five years strong
with Strange music, forty years in the game for me. Wow,
Thank you to all the fans man from making this

(15:18):
possible because without you, I said, without you, Without you,
there's no me and there's no us without your support.
Thank you, we're still here after all these damn years.
That's a blessing. You're a blessing. Thank you very well,
said tech Don.

Speaker 1 (15:36):
I'm man, I appreciate a little bit of your time today,
bro Tech done. New album five eight one six Forrest.
You gotta check it out on tour taking over the World.
