Speaker 1 (00:02):
Cheers, Rockets fans, Welcome to The Logger Line, an exclusive
podcast from the home of the Rockets, Sports Talk seven ninety,
The Logger Line. It's proudly served to you by car
Box Clutch City Logger.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
It is good Red Nation. Get Ready, Ready, Get Ready.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
The logger Line starts now.
Speaker 3 (00:30):
Welcome aboard.
Speaker 4 (00:39):
Game seven is happening.
Speaker 5 (00:42):
After being down three to one in the series, your
twenty twenty five Houston Rockets are now just one home
victory away from becoming only the fourteenth team in NBA
history to overcome a three to one deficit in a
best of seven playoff series. What's most incredible, this young
Rockets team is doing all of that against the Steph
Curry and Raymond Green led Warriors, who are basically the
(01:04):
biggest nemesis of all when it comes to the modern
era of this franchise. For anyone who doesn't know, my
name is Ben Dubo's. I'm the host of this podcast,
The Logger Line. I'm also the editor of USA Today's
Rockets Squire and a contributor to Sports Talk seven ninety,
official flagship partiotiation of the Rockets. We had a pod
posted to this lagger Line channel a couple of days
ago with Palo Alves, my usual co host, and we
(01:27):
both said our big fear going into Game six at
Golden State was whether the Rockets had already wasted the
so called fred Vin fleet game, in which the veteran
goes off puts you on his.
Speaker 4 (01:38):
Back on the road.
Speaker 5 (01:39):
He did all of that in Game four as well,
but you ended up losing in the final seconds and
Dusk got pushed to the brink of elimination. Yet somehow,
in Game six out in the Bay, Freddy did it
again with a team high twenty nine points date assists,
all while making six of nine shots from three. Steven
Adams was massive off the bench with seventeen points and
elite rim protection. And with those two veterans leading the way,
(02:02):
the Rockets not only won erode game six against elimination,
but they did it fairly easily and really pulled away
in the fourth quarter. So now it sets up for
a winner take all Game seven on Sunday night at Toyosner.
There are no guarantees, obviously, anything can happen in a
one game scenario. All needs to be said is oh
for twenty seven. But the Rockets have now won two
straight against the Warriors, and they have absolutely dominated the
(02:25):
games in Houston since the middle of the third quarter
of Game one, So I do think the confidence is
pretty high going in, and it should be.
Speaker 4 (02:32):
I also think that.
Speaker 5 (02:33):
With the series shifting to in every other day format
in this the second week of it, you're starting to
see the advantages that the Rockets have with the younger
players and more depth becoming a bit more important. Anyway,
as far as reacting to what happens in Game seven,
and maybe a little bit of Game six as well,
we'll have a normal pod early next week. Today, on
(02:53):
this Saturday, the third day of May, the off day
in between Game six and Game seven, I've got a
special mini episode with a compilation of radio highlights from
Game six, because let's be honest, this is one that
we should all celebrate. It's less analysis, it's more celebration.
Speaker 4 (03:10):
Today.
Speaker 5 (03:10):
This is only the second win in franchise history at
Golden State, in Rocket's layoff history, they were one in
thirteen going in, so this is a historically significant win.
It takes the series back to Houston, and it puts
you on the verge of finally finally getting that sweet
revenge against Steph Curry and the Warriors after all those
(03:31):
years of torture, losing four times in basically a five
year span from May twenty fifteen through May of twenty nineteen,
and beyond the obvious, another one of the perks to
the first round of the NBA Playoffs is that we've
got these local TV broadcasts and I'm guessing many of you,
just like me, have enjoyed hearing the calls and coverage
from Craig Ackerman, Ryan Hollins and that's a richardson the
(03:54):
usual team over at Space City Home Network. But there's
also a Rockets Radio broadcast that's hosted by Matt Thomas,
good friend of the program, personal friend of mine, longtime
major market radio host, and someone that's been closely affiliated
in linked with this franchise going all the way back
to the initial championship glory days of nineteen ninety four
and nineteen ninety five. So I want to make sure
(04:14):
that Matt gets his due as well. You can always
hear his calls on Sports Talk seven ninety the flagship
as well as across the various regional affiliates of the
Rockets Radio network, and I believe SiriusXM as well, and
unlike the TV broadcast, by the way, those Houston radio
broadcasts will extend into future rounds in the playoffs as well,
assuming the Rockets advance. Anyway, We'll be back with more
(04:36):
serious analysis and reaction in a few days. Keep your
fingers crossed, pray to whatever deta you wish that Game
seven goes the right way on Sunday night. Tip off
is at seven point thirty from downtown Houston. For now,
we've got a compilation of our good friend Matt Thomas
calling that incredible Game six victory, which, let's be honest,
was one of the most important ones for this franchise
(04:57):
in a very long time.
Speaker 6 (04:58):
With that, let's roll the tape, bounce past the shingoon
to his right for Jalen gets by Buddy heel to
the mid range, tries a twelve foot shot, A high
archer comes up, short ball tapped up, saved by Brooks,
out to Thompson. Back to Brooks, goes a baseline left
the fred vand Leed's gon to launch a three pointer.
It is up, It's good, and the Rockets have a
five to three lead. Bounce passing to Shangun to the baseline,
(05:20):
goes against dream On pump base, goes the window around
the rim and down and Outprin Shangoon gives the Rockets
a nine.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
To three advantage.
Speaker 6 (05:28):
Jalen's being chased by Buddy Heeled swings it back to
Shangoon at the ball at the top of the key.
Pump bakes against Dramon. He'll turn, he'll twist, he'll lay
it up and score. Draymond tried to flop. Nothing came
out of it. It's eleven to five and out. He's
got six. Just a couple steps beyond mid quarters. Fred
getting clock at three nineteen in the first Adam sets
(05:50):
the screen. Freddy straight on high arching three is up,
being good, fred another nice start. Eight first quarter points,
Rockets up twenty nineteen. Wright side on the floor inside
the arc, hands it to Adams to demand Thompson top
of the key, left side. Here's Tari for a three
ball swish and we're going back and forth in his
first quarter. Twenty three, twenty one, Houston Curry faces the
(06:15):
double team lost to basketball. Is going to be a
steal for Deacon in front.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
Here's Chiling Green with a two hand throwdown another step
Curry turnover and the Rockets lead is for.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
Jump them from seven feet front rim no tap out.
Speaker 6 (06:29):
It's going to go into the hands of Holiday in
a reset, Holiday left side three on the way up
and in Aaron Holiday coming off the bench with a
deep three ball and the Rockets have their largest lead.
Speaker 2 (06:41):
Fred's got a top of the key.
Speaker 6 (06:43):
Right hander will drive weeksid handoff to him and Thompson
goes up, lays it up, missed the shot, offensive rebound
at Adams throws it off the backboard and drops it
in for two in a timeout to Steve Kerr. More
second chance opportunities. That's the benefit of Steven Adams. He's
three to three, he's got six. A man comes across
the timeline gonna try to beat Payton down the Landey
(07:03):
Ges flips at baseline right to Jalen do his right.
Tarry sets fires and hits a three, and there's your
largest lead for the Rockets at eight at forty three
thirty five, with five minutes raining, Tary Eatson with eight
off the bench for Houston, extra step to heal that
balls blocked by Dylan Brooks and gathers the basketball after
it and then lobs at right side to him and
(07:23):
Thompson on the trail of Shangoon left the Jalen Green.
Speaker 3 (07:26):
Sets fires and traps a three ball. There's your first
field goal from three point range for Jalen Green.
Speaker 2 (07:34):
Five straight for the Rockets. He's got seven.
Speaker 6 (07:38):
Left hand ribble drive gets byt Pojemski lost the basketball, curls,
hands it off baseline to Thompson with two with one.
Speaker 3 (07:43):
Of fadeaway shot is up and in seven straight for
the Rockets. Four seconds left to go until halftime. Shnggoon
straight away against Butler, hands off the faanvleeting a curl.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
His three pointer is up and in.
Speaker 3 (07:57):
Freddy has brought the deep ball for the third straight game.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
Fifty six fifty one Rockets, thirteen now for Freddy. Vam
Beleek gets a Shangoon screen.
Speaker 3 (08:07):
Freddy's got at the left double turned back bounce past
to the right elbow for a man.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
Thompson fifteen footer up and in a men.
Speaker 6 (08:14):
Thompson now with eight points on his third field goal,
sixty two to fifty six Houston.
Speaker 3 (08:20):
Butler goes up that's blocked by Adams bright hand rejection
Shangoon the rebound left of Van bleet launch of a
three D zipping in three the other way on the
defensive work and the funnel up. Big time jumper. Freddy's
got eighteen a rocket leight of nine.
Speaker 6 (08:39):
Van Bleek given up the shangoon down the heart of lane,
turns let spins right.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
He's fout puts it up at an N one. What
a terrific three sixty move for out Brands.
Speaker 3 (08:47):
Shangon now with twelve points, rockets grow the lead back
to five. Ball is loose. Scramble four, who's got it?
It's gonna still be a mad scramble.
Speaker 6 (08:56):
Vam Bleich's got it right back with a brand new
shot clock line right, three pointer on the way.
Speaker 3 (09:03):
Nothing to not on for Jampary Smith on a catch
and shoot three pointer flucked by post, tipped up a
couple of times.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
Adams has it.
Speaker 6 (09:11):
It's got three different Golden State players bounce past the
easton baseline to Vambley to his left three.
Speaker 3 (09:16):
Pointer on the way. Good Jambari knocks it down with
the timer going off back to back threes. How about
that seventy seven seventy Houston.
Speaker 6 (09:29):
Family between the rings, left hand ribble drive down malheartlane.
Fred throws it off the back heel hangs and folds
Fred van Vleet with twenty points.
Speaker 2 (09:39):
Rockets up by eight eighty two seventy four.
Speaker 6 (09:43):
In backcour with Steph Curry, Rockets started left side Van
Lee for a three pointer.
Speaker 7 (09:48):
He's fouled on the way and it's good. Takes the
spill right in front of the Rockets bench. It took
six seconds with that shot to go up.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
Payton the fowl. Twenty three for Van Vliet and a
chance in a four point play at the top of
the key.
Speaker 6 (10:06):
Left hand ribble drive turns, spins out to Jalen, gets
by a defender to the baseline against Moody, throws up
a crazy shot, got his own offensive rebound and dropped
it in for two missus.
Speaker 2 (10:16):
First shot put.
Speaker 6 (10:17):
The second one in and a timeout is called by
Steve kerr Man. Thompson at the timeline to the top
of the free point line, gonna try to beat post
left side, layup on the way, scoop and score.
Speaker 3 (10:30):
Nicely done. He went mono Vermno he knew post was
gonna back up. Didn't want to foul out. Ninety's six
to eighty nine, Rockets by seven. Thompson down with twelve,
Scheng Gun missing the layup try, and while he was
arguing about the call, balls tipped up in the air
and Sheng Gun's got it out to a straightaway three
pointer for Freddy Bean. He drains it and just like
that it's the largest lead of the game. Thank you
(10:54):
Alby for the offensive rebound, and thank you for the
triple from fred van Vliet.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
Van vleet right side face.

Speaker 3 (11:07):
With the two head hammer. It's a seventeen point lead.
Twelve straight for the Rockets. Down three games to one.
Back to back victories for your Houston Rockets, and we
(11:29):
go to a game seven in Houston. Final score the
Rockets one fifteen, the Warriors one oh seven, and one
of the heroes tonight where it can you can you
see me up to give a cut from the guy?
(11:50):
Hey Steven, thank you very much for what you've done.
This was an incredible performance by you and your teammates tonight.
Speaker 8 (11:56):
Yeah, I was good mate. We came in and we
knew that they were going to come in like. This
is a winning franchise. It's always going to be a
tough game with these guys both, so it was good
that we responded well, stuck with it. That's it.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
Pay Uh.
Speaker 3 (12:09):
This is a tough building to win until you guys
got in your second winning here. What was the difference
tonight in those previous two games coming here to San Francisco.
Speaker 8 (12:16):
Again, I think it just came down to like execution
and uh and all that. Like we trusted our execution,
we trusted our defense, and that's why we're relying on
we're moving the ball. Well, we're not slowing down, Yeah,
I think I think that's the main thing. We need
to keep the pace up. We've always been a fast
paced team and we kind of let teams slow us down.
Speaker 3 (12:34):
They were hacking you bunch, but it felt like you
were getting more and more comfortable to free throwing with
every one of those shot of temps.
Speaker 8 (12:39):
Yeah, I just need some rips, both, We just need
some rips. Just throw it up and hope for the miss.
Some of them were going in, mate, So it was good.
Speaker 2 (12:45):
You love game sevens, right and you in your home building.
Speaker 8 (12:48):
Yeah, there should be a good one, bro. Again, there's
nothing I mean, it's just like when all go home
so obviously it's a special game, but we just got
to come in say mentality, bro, just take it from
their brother.
Speaker 4 (13:01):
