Speaker 1 (00:04):
We're at it again. Welcome to another meeting of the
London Club Council. Now representing Tottenham Hotspa in this corner
we do have Brett Blakemore and repping Arsenal is Robbie
rosen House. So boys, let the banter begin.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
Welcome in to another edition of the London Club Council.
I am Brett Blakemore and I represent Tottenham Hotspur and
with me as always representing the Gooners of the world.
And no I'm not talking about them, I'm talking about Arsenal.
It's Robbie Rosenhouse. Hi, Robbie, Hi Brett.

Speaker 3 (00:41):
We're going to talk about both clubs today. And it's
the highest of highs and the lowest of lows, isn't it.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
Well, it depends on what league you're talking about, because
then we could flip flop and we could be talking
about the highest of highs and your lowest of low's,
or we could talk about another thing where it's your
highest to high. Isn't my lowest the lowest? So football sport.

Speaker 3 (01:04):
Yeah, And now that we've played Premier League, mad labs,
let's dive right as Arsenal draw to too with Liverpool
in a game that really again shows their stick to itiveness,
I guess. I mean Liverpool had lost Chelsea, there were

(01:26):
given a guard of honor.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
Yeah, how was that? Well you didn't watch it?

Speaker 3 (01:30):
No I was, I was, and I was acrossing international borders.
But no, I ended up watching the game in full afterwards,
and no good. The guard of honor is what it was.
If Arsenal are lucky enough to win the league one day,
then I expect that from either whatever club it may be.

(01:53):
So if to the victor, go the spoils. But I
thought the two goals that they scored, especially Marinos, was good.
Maybe Martinelli's good enough. You saw maybe a little hint
of what Arteta was going to do with him. They
deployed him a little bit up the middle. But again
just an overall picture. They didn't get the job done
in Champions League. We haven't joined you since then. They
lost to one and then one nil. They could have

(02:14):
scored easily in the first fifteen to twenty minutes of
both matches and just didn't get the job done.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
And you know, I mean you knew. You kept saying
over and over again that PSG would be it, that
would be your downfall. Yeah, you knew it.

Speaker 3 (02:28):
Yeah I did, yeah, no, And I wasn't under any
false pretenses even after they went down one nil going
back to Paris. Now, if they would have gotten that
first goal, which they had a couple of chances early,
and Donna rum is a top five keeper in the world,
maybe top three, and you saw what a keeper can
do for a team. You saw summer for Inter Milan

(02:49):
basically save their season by saving Jamal and some Barcelona
shots late in that match, and Milan end up. Intergo
to the final and they're going to take on PSG,
but to this tie here in PSG. When they got
their chances they converted, they didn't get a lot, and.

Speaker 4 (03:09):
They were there to be had. Villa came back in
that previous.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
Tie and scored a lot of goals at home against them.
But Arsenal were unable to crack Donna Ruma, they were
unable to crack the defense. They could not finish their chances,
and for them it's going to be looked at as
a missed opportunity. And I'm not angry. They lost to

(03:33):
a good side. They didn't lose to a Norwegian side
in the Arctic Circle.

Speaker 4 (03:39):
They didn't lose to some.

Speaker 3 (03:41):
Third division you didn't them, some third division you know,
Belgian side. They lost to a team that's in the
Champions League final. They ended up beating Real Madrid, the
fourteenth time champs on the way. So again, and we're
going to talk about this towards the end of it
and kind of comparing the seasons and well, it's going
to depend on obviously what happens here with Tottenham and Europe,

(04:04):
but when it comes to Arsenal season, and we'll go
through it in a future episode. But right now you
feel like you're wanting more and it just feels kind
of flat. But the good news is all the reports
are in the last week to ten days, Zubamendi is
coming in from Spain and they that they dropped that

(04:27):
right in the middle of when they dropped out the PSG.
You're going to have to go give the guard of honor.
They gave the Arsenal fans a nugget of fun to
try and distract them. Don't look here, look here. Zoom
Amendi is going to be a nice midfield and it's
going to come in and help them in the middle
of the park. He comes in from Spain and they're
looking at Victor Gokhersh and.

Speaker 4 (04:50):
Some other strikers.

Speaker 3 (04:50):
He was played in the Premier League and was shipped
out to Portugal and now is tearing the Portuguese League
apart and is going to be had for about sixty
million and it's going to be probably between Chelsea and Arsenal,
and it looks like Arsenal are leaders to sign him
because their new sporting director comes over from that club

(05:12):
in Lisbon.

Speaker 4 (05:13):
So we'll see.

Speaker 3 (05:14):
They're going to add striker. They're going to add, just
like they did a couple of years ago when they
added with Havertz and Timber and they brought in Declan
Rice for one hundred millions. So they're not going to
stop adding and they're gonna be back in the Champions
League next year.

Speaker 2 (05:26):
Brett, So, well are they? Because it's not. I don't
have they clinched? Have I missed that? Because it's not.

Speaker 3 (05:36):
No, they haven't. No, they haven't clinched.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
It's not over. Villa would have to win out basically,
and you would have to lose out. But there is
a world when you lost to Bourne myth the other
week you drew I mean Liverpool, but I mean Newcastle
at home. That is a drop points able game.

Speaker 3 (06:00):
Chelsea still have to play Forrest Away not going to
be easy when Forrest are fighting for European spot. Arsenal
are still going to finish second. I am supremely confident
in that, almost as confident as I was as they
were going to go out to PSG, because I've still
in my life and I wasn't there six rooting for them.

(06:22):
I've still never seen them in a Champions League final.
I've still never seen the vikings in the Super Bowl.
I'm wondering which one is going to be first, and
I'm not holding my breath for either one. So until
I actually see it, I'm not going to believe it's
going to happen, which is part of the reason why
I thought they were going But PSG played better and.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
By the way, by the way.

Speaker 3 (06:43):
The Arteta comments about they were the best team is
a bunch of Bologna because if you watch that other
match that Barcelona plays, not only wire both of those.

Speaker 4 (06:56):
Teams better than Arsenal, but PSG was better.

Speaker 3 (06:59):
So yes, Arsenal huffed and puffed and created chances, but
the goalie was better, and the defense was better, and frankly,
the coach was better because Arteta didn't have any answers
late in the game. They didn't come up big when
they needed goals. They were dead. They needed two goals

(07:19):
in that second leg and they couldn't even come up
with one, and that's the sad part of it. So again,
as we kind of wrap up here on on on Arsenal,
those are my feelings as we as we moved through
the through the end of the season.

Speaker 2 (07:31):
Yeah, I say the will you be out a Champions League? Definitely,
tongue in cheek. I definitely think you're at least in
the Champions League. I'm not so sure, and I'm not
being sarcastic. I'm not sure second is a lock, not
that it matters to me. I get there's like ten
million in prize money per place or whatever it is,
so I get you want to finish second and not

(07:51):
third or fourth. To me, it doesn't matter if you're
in the top five or top five, but whatever, I
don't think you're It's like a lot for second at
this point, especially because the team you play this weekend
is Newcastle, who are right behind you two points away.
So you dropped that game at home, which is out

(08:12):
of the question.

Speaker 3 (08:12):
They go to Southampton who just drew Man City Mil Mil. Yeah,
you know, Arsenal, I'm not going to have anything to
play for ounity.

Speaker 2 (08:20):
You know where Newcastle go next week? They host Everton. Okay,
so you drop that game against Newcastle, you're looking at
at least third place because they're not losing Everton at home.

Speaker 3 (08:34):
Not happy, well, the well, the Arsenal matches at home.
The matches at home. It's not at Newcastle. It's not.
So again, it's.

Speaker 2 (08:45):
I'm just saying it's not.

Speaker 3 (08:48):
You can you can present a bunch of different ways.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
To that's pretty easy to get me to.

Speaker 3 (08:55):
Get me to get me to jump into Mississippi River.
But lest we forget, you know about it, I always
loved that one. About a month into the NHL season,
we were trending towards me jumping into the river where
the Wild were probably either the first or second, at
worst the third best team in the league.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
Yeah, I don't think the Medians.

Speaker 3 (09:17):
Were the worst team in the league and they wound
up with the same point total.

Speaker 2 (09:21):
Yeah. I don't think we explained that bet on the pod,
but yeah, the bet was if the Wild finished I
think thirty three points ahead of the Canadians.

Speaker 3 (09:29):
I think it was just thirty thirty, whatever it was,
I think it was thirty.

Speaker 2 (09:34):
Then you would jump in the Mississippi, right, I would
jump in the Mississippi River and there it looked dark
for a little bit, but it was.

Speaker 3 (09:41):
It was covering in the low twenties for a while,
and that was early on. So we had a long runway.

Speaker 2 (09:49):
Then as we got to the priest and get hurt,
you guys catch fire fire there on the road.

Speaker 3 (09:55):
They won in Vegas, they won Colorado, they won in
la they won in Seattle, they won to Vancouver. Yeah,
they won like six in a row, and that was
the end of it.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
Nevertheless, yeah, back to Arsenal though.

Speaker 3 (10:07):
Like Arsenal, there'll be no jumping in the river for
me after this season.

Speaker 2 (10:12):
If I were in your shoes, though, and I was hearing,
well you might not finish second, you might be third
or fourth, I would say, who cares, I don't care.
Like to me, your season is over, just as much
as our Premier League season is over. Like everyone's Liverpool
has won. You guys are in top five, for sure.

(10:32):
It would take a miraculous mathematic I actually think you
are clinched. But it doesn't matter. You're in regardless, so
your season is over.

Speaker 3 (10:42):
Honestly, the the the benefit to finishing let's say third,
would be that nobody would be able to say that
they finished second three years in a row. So that
would be something that.

Speaker 2 (10:53):
Hang the banner.

Speaker 3 (10:54):
Yes, thank you.

Speaker 2 (10:57):
Yes, you'll never sing that. You'll never saying that second
three years in a row. You'll never sing that.

Speaker 3 (11:03):
Yeah, not not good.

Speaker 2 (11:05):
It doesn't do anything for me.

Speaker 4 (11:07):
Close.

Speaker 3 (11:08):
Close is only good in horseshoes and hand gardy. That
is incorrect, and and and and one putts. But nevertheless, yes, nevertheless,
Arsenal have had a B plus season. I mean they,
I mean I can, I can throw their Champions League campaign,
you know, into the A category because they almost got

(11:28):
to a final and ousted a team that they were
clearly less talented then and did it in style and
won in Spain after people are saying that they were
that they were gonna, you know, throw that away. But
the league season, I mean, they were never close to
Liverpool and we'll and we'll get into more in a
future episode, but that's just kind of how I stand there.

(11:49):
I'm giving them a B plus because now everything is
kind of finalized with they can't win trophies, They're gonna
finish second through fifth, and they have only a couple
of matches to go, so we'll get more in depth
as to kind of what players are going to stay,
what players are going to go. There's been some Saliba
rumors about Real Madrid sniffing around, but I think that's
enough Arsenal for now, because the main event of this

(12:13):
podcast and the team that has kind of languished in
the league and has flourished in Frankfurt let alone, you know,
beamed in Bodo, that's and that's Tottenham Hotspurs. So before

(12:35):
we kind of shape this conversation about your club, and
I want to I want to open with with just
kind of an overriding question and just kind of throw
some throw some stats at you. So so so twenty
league defeats is the most since since Yurly nineties, and

(12:55):
they've won just one of their past ten league games,
their second such run this calendar year. Now, everybody understands
that the Europa League Final is the priority, but that
doesn't excuse half pressing, half trying, and despite eight changes
from the win on Thursday, I know, and just prioritize

(13:16):
Cup competitions. But Spurs have not won any of their
six home league games after European fixture this season, They've
lost four. So when you factor everything in and looking
ahead to next week, does it really matter? Putting aside

(13:39):
the fact that they're going to play on Europe's Grand
Stage next year and the fact that the money that
they would gain would offset the fact that they're going
to finish in seventeenth and not there the fourth or fifth,
it basically offsets it. Putting aside that fact that bonus,
what does this match on Thursday mean to you?

Speaker 2 (14:05):
Simply put everything this is I was telling you this
is the biggest, the biggest sports game that I've had
since my brains were in the World Series in twenty
twenty one. I don't think there's been a game even close.
And I get it's a secondary competition. Europa League is
not the Champions League. I get that, But it's because

(14:27):
the history of the Tottenham Because despite everything, despite all
of the stats that you've thrown at me, despite all
the just awful performances in that game against Palace was
one of the worst performances I've seen ever, so bad,
despite all of that, to lift a trophy and a

(14:51):
significant one, you know, it's I think it's the first.
It's the first European finals since the Champions League final obviously,
but then going back for that, I think it's another
forty years at after that something like that. It's massive,
It's huge, and I think it's interesting. It would be
huge for the club, it'd be huge for the supporters,
and I think anyone right now that says even if

(15:14):
they win, I want ange gone. I would like to
check in with them. If Slash win, Spurs win and
lift a trophy and we see the celebration and we
see the parade, you know, don Tottenham high Road, then
get back to me on if you feel that way,
because I certainly won't. It's a huge deal and I

(15:37):
just I'm getting emotional just now just thinking about it,
like all of the stick and all of the crap
that we have to face, you know, as Spurs fans.
You know, I was I was facetiming, Uh, my girlfriend's
sister is dating someone from Belgium and they were over
in Belgium. I'm facetiming the guy. I go, hey, who

(16:00):
do you support? And he says Barsa, which I think
was weird. But we can move on from that. I go, oh,
I sports Tottenham, and he goes, must be a rough life,
you know, like it just never ends. It's always that way.
So the fact that we're right there, right on the
precipice of winning something, and again it's a secondary competition,
I know it is still a significant trophy to win

(16:23):
in my opinion, and you know what, any trophy is
good for Spurs to win. Right now, I would have
taken a care About Cup. I would have taken an
FA Cup. Doesn't matter. And I'll end my monologue on this.
How many times have we had the conversation if you
could win a trophy guaranteed, but you finish bottom half

(16:46):
of the table, if you finished sixteenth, would you do it?
And I go for one year? Probably yes, I think
that was my answer going into this season. I think
we've had a conversation on this podcast specifically, so for
one year, yes, I'm okay with it, But god do
we need to win this and I think it's a

(17:06):
big deal and Rubin Amerins is not, by the.

Speaker 5 (17:09):
Way, So putting that aside now and just looking at
the overall kind of product, because now we've looked at
the Shawnee toy and everybody's kind of passed it by
and they've seen it and they've gone ooh and ah,
and that's great.

Speaker 3 (17:22):
And Spurs are on their way to Bilbao and they're
taking the whole staff.

Speaker 2 (17:25):
Tottenham's going to do it again, and well.

Speaker 3 (17:28):
I don't know, but I don't know what again means, but.

Speaker 2 (17:31):
Well we've won there Ropaly before, so again, well, well.

Speaker 3 (17:34):
That's fine, but we can go back to, you know,
basically three years ago when I met you, when all
the memes and the songs and the and.

Speaker 2 (17:43):
Just then think singing that I if we win.

Speaker 3 (17:48):
The constant berating of Arsenal playing on Thursdays, and how
I haven't rubbed it in, but I will say this there.

Speaker 4 (18:00):
You know, there is a chance that they do lose
this match, and if they do, they're going to get
their come up.

Speaker 3 (18:06):
And and you know it's going to be for most
for the players, not you, No, not you, the players
and and Ange, and it's.

Speaker 4 (18:16):
Gonna be there's going to be hell to pay because
they have not you. They're gonna have it get out
of jail free card.

Speaker 3 (18:22):
And I think personally, and I wanted to get your
opinion on this, you know, the more I watch them
and the more I see Ange.

Speaker 4 (18:31):
You know, I honestly think.

Speaker 3 (18:34):
That there are good players there and that on the
in the premier league, in the with the best managing
is in the in the world, that he's somewhat tactically
has been found out, and I think that your players
are better than you.

Speaker 4 (18:49):
Know, you have a bunch of really young, good players
like I.

Speaker 3 (18:53):
Just for some reason, it's just the pieces are not
fitting together, and they were obviously in the first ten
games when he was there, and we're not going to
relitigate his entire time there. So this leads me to
kind of you know, what I'm saying here is I'm
putting more blame on Ange in the league than I

(19:15):
am on the players. But if this doesn't go your way,
or even if it does, I mean, what what is
his future? Because the last podcast that we did, you know,
was the first time I really heard you kind of
waffle a bit after kind of staying away from Palmers

(19:38):
which is the Tottenham Bar here in town because it
was just, to quote you, it was just becoming too
toxic with the manager. And if I'm being honest, and
I'll end on this listening to a lot of talk sport.
I mean they're.

Speaker 2 (19:52):
Basically exactly but the host.

Speaker 4 (19:55):
But what I'm saying is the host, the hosts who.

Speaker 6 (19:59):
Are in there, whoever it may be, I'm not exactly.
It wasn't Jamie o'harr, it wasn't a Tom event, somebody
who was in there, basically just kind of reporting on
what was going on. And you can and you can
tell me if this is true or not because you
watch the games. The fans are not.

Speaker 3 (20:15):
Having them like in the stadium, and I'm not saying
on social media is any better. But there's been a
lot of reports of obviously him, you know, not going
over to the you know, doing the thing with the.

Speaker 4 (20:28):
Fans and stuff like. It's been contentious and I know
you love the man and this would be a big vindication.

Speaker 3 (20:34):
For him if he were to win this trophy.

Speaker 4 (20:37):
But the but the main question I have is what
what do you see as his future win or lose.

Speaker 2 (20:42):
Well, it goes back to what should happen and what
will happen, and I think are two completely different things.
But yes, I know I've had that before, but it's, uh,
what should happen for my money is I mean I personally,

(21:05):
I think you should stay either way. If I'm being honest,
I think the injuries have played such a big and
he got asked about it again as oppresser, and he's like,
if you get the injuries and you understand what we've
been through, that's great, and if you don't, then I
can't help you. Basically, does that mean that he's blameless.
Absolutely not. Does that mean that the side that he

(21:26):
put out against Palace should have done better? Absolutely? But
I think that has such a big part of it.
And once the snowball gets rolling on a bad season
where we have three months of our entire defensive line
is out and now we're in twelfth, and now we're
in thirteenth, and then they're coming back, but they're not
exactly one hundred percent. Like I don't know, I just didn't.

(21:50):
I just don't personally don't think he got a fair
shake this year. He definitely needs to win to be back,
for sure, but what will happen. I don't know where
Daniel Levey's head's at now. As far as the fan
opinion part of your conversation, it goes with every result,

(22:13):
and which is one of my biggest pet peeves about
football fans in general. Is that the game the day
after we beat Buddha, I think is actually how you're
supposed to pronounce it. Yeah, weird. The day after we
go up to the Arctic Circle and win that game.
Now we're on a European final. I'm seeing tiktoks on
my four you page of Spurs fans going, you know what,

(22:34):
and you got me back? Here we go. We're in
a European final and guess what. Two days later we lose.
We get embarrassed at home by Crystal Palace. Get this
guy out of here. I don't care if he wins
the trophy. So the reality is, Robbie, if we win
the trophy, I guarantee you that relationship, regardless of seventeenth

(22:54):
or anything, will be instantly mended because we'll have won
a trophy and be able to tell everybody to stop
making ooh Spurs trophy cavn that is empty. Oh you
got to clean the cobwebs off because finally there will
be something in there. So he could get sacked even
with winning the trophy. Who knows Daniel Levy sacked somebody
before a cup. Finally, stack Maurinho before a Cup finals.

(23:17):
Who knows what Donald's gonna happen. If I were Daniel Levy,
I would give him more time and I would see
ten games in next year when he's got some hopefully
hopefully new summer transfers, and if things look like they're
gonna go the same way that they are going this year,
that's I think when you make a move. But to me,

(23:39):
he just didn't get a fair shake this year and
we finished fifth, which would have been a Champions League
spot one year prior so with Ange.

Speaker 3 (23:47):
Okay, so that's kind of an overall picture. I think
a lot obviously depends on the game. I mean he
could go either way. I mean, if they lose, I
think it's all but certain he's gone.

Speaker 2 (23:57):
I agree, But we will, we will.

Speaker 3 (24:01):
Certainly see now to the now, to the game itself,
and just kind of one thing that sticks out for
may Well. Two things. One United haven't beaten Tottenham in
three years. Two, your key player, Gimmy, Gimmy, Gimmey is hurt.

Speaker 2 (24:20):
A ginger from Sweden. That's right, is what they say.
So what does that mean?

Speaker 3 (24:27):
He did not finish the game against Pallace and.

Speaker 2 (24:30):
Apparently he was never going to for whatever that's worth.

Speaker 3 (24:33):
Well, So how important is he to what you're going
to do because already you're without Madison who's out for
the season, and you have other shaky guys.

Speaker 2 (24:44):
Lucas is out for the season two he's he's turned
into a great player in midfield.

Speaker 3 (24:49):
So are they going to start Pasuma? Is sar are
going to start? I mean, what is going to happen
in midfield? And because if you squint hard enough, I mean,
United's best kind of quality is their midfield. I mean Bruto,
Bruto is the best player on either team in my

(25:11):
in my mind, and I hate him, but he is,
and he has the ability to take over games. I mean,
you saw the first leg where he just completely dominated
against the Spanish side. So it's not it's gonna be
a tall task. So I mean before we get to
this game next week, I mean, and I know they
have a game against Villa this weekend.

Speaker 2 (25:32):
With irrelevant right, irrelevant right?

Speaker 3 (25:35):
No, it's absolutely no, no, no, because because it's being held
that day, it's going to be a FedEx Friday for sure,
without a ship, without a definitely without a shadow of
it down.

Speaker 2 (25:45):
I think the I think they put out a strong
lineup against Villa, and I think they sub out a
lot of them at forty five minutes. That's honestly what
I think that's gonna happen.

Speaker 3 (25:53):
That's fair. No, that's fair. No, No, I'll give him a
run and then uh and then head to the bench.

Speaker 2 (25:57):
Yep.

Speaker 3 (25:58):
Yeah, So I guess that's that's that's that's kind of
what I see is that the game's gonna be one
in midfield, and hopefully for your sake, he's healthy.

Speaker 2 (26:08):
That's the thing. I think two key players for Spurs. Obviously,
Deki is huge, but then Sonny. Sonny got his first
minutes this past week against Pallace. There was a little
bit of a energy boost, but again that was his
first minutes and like I think a month or something,
so at least a couple of weeks. So good to
get him back, But you might have to play Decky

(26:29):
in the midfield and go son Dom Brennan, Johnson upfront
or Oda Bear upfront. So they've got forwards, you know,
between tel Son, Dom Brennan, Oda Bear, like there's an
Charleston even so there's a lot to play with up there.
So that's where I think you could maybe bring Deckie

(26:50):
back DECKI likes playing is that creative ten? But you
need him healthy because if you don't, we're looking at Besuma,
sar Bentencore, which I like. I like them individually. I'm
not sure if them, the three of them all at
the same time is best for Spurs. But I'll say
this just on the game. I'm actually like cautiously optimistic,

(27:16):
but I am. If we were playing United in the
prem this week and I had inside information that we
were playing our a our best line up the whole time,
like we would, I'd be so confident. I'd be so confident.
And again, it's the battle of United always. They always
show up in the big games versus but they if

(27:38):
have you listened to Ruben Ameron, He's like, this doesn't matter,
This isn't gonna save our season.

Speaker 3 (27:43):
Playing games. He's playing games with the media. He's you say,
some reason, some reason, for some reason, he's just he's
just there's a method to what he's doing. I'm just
not exactly sure I agree with it, but there's definitely
a method. He's not dumb, like, he's not a dumb man.
He's just he's just being cool.

Speaker 2 (28:00):
I don't think he cares I think it's whatever we
finished in sixteenth. We stink so season zero. Meanwhile, and
just like you tell me what a trophy would do
for this club. It would be massive, and it would
be massive to stick it in your face, even though
you don't care about Europa League. But it's more sticking
it in the face of the London rivals that we
have a trophy, we can win trophies and you can

(28:22):
all suck it.

Speaker 3 (28:23):
That honestly, honestly, this is a much bigger deal for
you than it is a disappointment for myself And I
don't I don't want to say that to put am
I rooting for Tottenham? No? Am I rooting for United?

Speaker 4 (28:38):
No?

Speaker 3 (28:38):
Do I want to You're just gonna watch what happens.
Do I want to see a power outage? Probably? You know,
that's kind of that's kind of what I'm looking for. There,
I'll give you thank you.

Speaker 2 (28:48):
Oh wow, here is there you go.

Speaker 3 (28:54):
That's all right, We're on a seven second delay. We
work in radio and that's right, that's fine. But uh no,
I just think the trophy thing goes out to wink.
I think it should be. It should be, it should
be a fun match and listen. Here's here's the thing.
I'm not going to be little if if they win it,
but it's not you know, it's obviously not the same

(29:15):
as the Champions League, and it gives them an opportunity
to win that the following season. So that's all you
can answer for.

Speaker 2 (29:20):
I'm gonna go on a little bit of ty. Do
we have a stopwatch here? I want to perhaps I
want to stay under like a minute.

Speaker 3 (29:29):
All right, well, I'll bring my mic and you go
for it.

Speaker 2 (29:35):
Everyone is being massive frauds in the media and what
I predicted to come true once again, as I usually
do when I predicted something to happen, the goal post
would be moved as soon as Spurs win a trophy.
I said that. I said that from the very first
season of this podcast. As soon as we win a trophy,
the goal post will be moved. Because last year we

(29:58):
finished fifth. What happens, boy, another trophy less season for
Spurs and ken and win them a trophy. It didn't
matter that we were two points away and one match
away from a Champions League spot. It didn't matter where
we finished in the prem It only mattered where if
we got a trophy or if we didn't and another trophy,
less trophy, trophy, trophy, trophy or bust. And now we're

(30:22):
on the precipice of it. We're almost at a trophy.
And what happens, Oh yeah, well yeah, sure they might
win that, but they they're seventeenth in the table. You're frauds.
You're moving the goal posts. And I hate everyone in
the media that talks about spurs.

Speaker 4 (30:37):
I hate it.

Speaker 2 (30:38):
I hate it. That's about a minute, in five seconds,
the goalposts are moved, Robbie, and they're officially moved. Now
if you watch NBC, I know I'm going overtime, but whatever,
If you watch NBC, they'll tell you, well, it doesn't
change anything because they had a terrible Premier League season
a year ago. The only thing that mattered to you

(31:00):
was how many times have they had on talkSPORT. Is
top four a trophy? Is top four a trophy?

Speaker 3 (31:07):
But Brett, you didn't finish seventeenth in the league last
season and lose twenty games. We can't ignore that.

Speaker 4 (31:14):
That doesn't mean that they have.

Speaker 3 (31:16):
To minimize the fact that you want a trophy. But
that also doesn't mean that we have to gloss over
the fact that you had your worst league season. See,
there's a difference between cup competitions and between the league.

Speaker 4 (31:31):
The league is your bread and butter.

Speaker 3 (31:32):
It just it's just a matter of how much emphasis
people put on the weekend, week out Premier League.

Speaker 7 (31:40):
That.

Speaker 2 (31:40):
Don't ever come with me with trophies ever again. Don't
ever say to me Spurs never win trophies. I never
want to hear it from you ever again.

Speaker 3 (31:47):
Again people, why why.

Speaker 2 (31:49):
Don't we throw a parade for finishing fifth last year? Robbie?
But that's what it's all about again.

Speaker 3 (31:54):
It doesn't matter whether or not they finish eighth or
they finished seventeenth.

Speaker 4 (32:02):
It doesn't.

Speaker 3 (32:04):
But the options I'm saying week in week out, do
you really think that it is good for Tottenham Hotspur
Football Club to lose so many matches, not only matches
but home matches, and not only home matches, but against

(32:26):
every big side or against every London side.

Speaker 4 (32:31):
They lose games at home on the road. We've talked
about this and I'm not.

Speaker 8 (32:35):
Pooling what they're doing in the cup competition, but it
has to matter some it does, and we can't. We
can't g loss over that, just like we can't gloss
over the fact that They've done a great job in
the cup competition.

Speaker 3 (32:50):
I even mentioned this the other day about how well
they did in the Caravel Cup, you know, I mean
they won the first leg a berg ball goal and
at home and they and they got home and you know,
and they had home, right, they had Well, let's let's
leave that aside, because City City weren't weren't exactly great shakes,

(33:13):
especially at that point in the year. They were a
complete disaster. But again the absolutely well we have.

Speaker 4 (33:20):
To qualify that because they.

Speaker 2 (33:21):
Were were not for Spurs. But that's fine, that's fair.

Speaker 3 (33:26):
But no, it's just it's it was, you know, and
then they got pumped at anfield, but nobody held it
against them.

Speaker 4 (33:33):
I didn't.

Speaker 3 (33:33):
I didn't hold it against I mean, Liverpool won the
league and they ended up going out to a side
that may end up winning the Champions League. No shame there.
Maybe maybe I am missing the point. Maybe the media
is just so hard on Spurs because they give them
every reason to be hard on them, and if they
do win this trophy that no, no, then well listen,

(33:58):
I mean think about it, like, you know, Other than
a few years ago when Arsenal completely gagged all over
themselves after they lost that game three nil and then
lost the next week two I think Newcastle, whoever it
was to, I think almost relegated Newcastle and that gave
and that gave taught them the avenue to get into
the the Champions League, you know, you know the.

Speaker 7 (34:21):
Two sides of.

Speaker 3 (34:24):
Yeah, exactly. So these have been two ships passing in
the night. But you know what, Arteta's got one trophy,
one FA Cup, and you know how many trophies and
is gonna have if he wins next week the same
amount and nobody will Nobody will complain one bit if.

Speaker 4 (34:40):
He does it. And frankly, the people who are complaining
about Arteta.

Speaker 3 (34:44):
Need to need to shut their trap because and I'm
not going to go on a rant here, but I mean,
you know, if they remember where they were before he
came in with Emery, I mean, it was a complete disaster,
you know, and he has taken them two heights. But
I'm gonna tell you this, and we're gonna save this
for the for the next you know, for expectations for
next season, and that'll obviously change for Tottenham based on

(35:06):
what they do next week.

Speaker 4 (35:07):
But I mean, I'm gonna expect silverwear next year or else.

Speaker 3 (35:10):
The pressure is gonna ramp up, and I'll and I'll
leave it at that.

Speaker 4 (35:13):
And but that thing.

Speaker 2 (35:14):
You're making My point for me, Robbie, is that why
is why are people upset with with Arteta right now?
Why is there a section of fans online that are
upset with Arteta hasn't won any trophies. So my point is,
but our trophies the be all and end all, the
only thing that we qualify a good season for, and

(35:36):
the only thing that you can say online is we've
won trophies. Therefore we've succeeded well or do placing high
in the Premier League but not winning anything matter Because
you asked anybody.

Speaker 3 (35:49):
I have for you who had a better season Arsenal
by finishing in the Champions League semifinalist and second, or
Tottenham who finished seventeenth but win the Europa League, who
had a better season.

Speaker 2 (36:02):
Guess what We're going to be playing in the same
league if that happens, and we'll have a trophy and
you won't think about.

Speaker 3 (36:08):
That Champions had a better season?

Speaker 2 (36:13):
Did I selectively did not say that? My point is
not is not did we have a better season or not?
My point is the goalposter being moved actively against us.
That's my point.

Speaker 4 (36:27):
That's fair, that's completely fair.

Speaker 2 (36:29):
The discourse has always been trophies, trophies, trophies and league
doesn't matter. How many times have we heard about Spurs, Well,
they have a great stadium, but now it's like a
great house with no furniture. They got to start putting
trophies in there. I've heard that from pundits a million
bleep in times, a million times. And now we're about
to put a you know, I wouldn't say a very

(36:52):
comfy l couch, but at least it's something. You know,
it's at least a lazy boy in there. And now
we're getting.

Speaker 3 (36:59):
Okay, I want to ask you this in our in
our group chat, or in our previous episodes in this
European run, I believe we titled one euro trip and
things like that, have I once poop pooed or minimalized

(37:19):
the fact that them winning a trophy would be a
big accomplishment for him, for you, for the.

Speaker 2 (37:27):
I will ugly cry right now.

Speaker 3 (37:30):
Oh no, I know that, No, I know that's gonna happen.

Speaker 4 (37:32):
No, I know that's fine.

Speaker 2 (37:34):
Ugly right now, thinking about it. That's how much it
means to me. Oh my god, would.

Speaker 3 (37:40):
Be so good. Uh well, the last time you and
I sports cry was just just about a month ago
when uh really dropped the two knees. Yeah, that was
speaking of. This is the PGA Championship week, which is
a lot of fun, and if Jordan Speed wins it,
I'll cry again because that'll be two of my guys

(38:02):
getting the Grand Slam. But again, this isn't a.

Speaker 2 (38:04):
Time a bit of money on that too. Yeah no,
I just again, have you poo pooed it? Not literally,
but you have stayed strong of well, we can't forget
how bad they've been over here as well. So you're
you're not but you're kind of.

Speaker 7 (38:22):
Well, I can't be but but but that's not not
because while one does have to do with the other,
when we are judging them on the season, that doesn't
dismiss the fact that they've done a great job in
getting themselves to where they had a.

Speaker 3 (38:43):
Chance to win four trophies this year, and if they
win one of those trophies that is a huge accomplishment.
They could have won the League, they could have won
the Caravel Cup, they could have won the Europa League,
or they could have won the and they could have
won the FA Cup. And they're not gonna win the
other three and and Arsenal I'm gonna win zero and
and uh you know it's so you know, Crystal Palace

(39:06):
may win one. I mean they have a cup final. Uh,
they're a good splot.

Speaker 2 (39:11):
I'm not excusing the performance at all. It was literally
the worst forms maybe have ever seen Fence.

Speaker 3 (39:16):
I mean Jed Spence was on the beach. I mean
I saw him.

Speaker 2 (39:19):
He was his worst a long time.

Speaker 3 (39:22):
That may have been his worst game in a in
a Tottenham in a Tottenham shirt right.

Speaker 2 (39:25):
Which stinks because he's he's been really good.

Speaker 3 (39:28):
I know that, especially when and put him in and
he was immediately and Tottenham fans are like where he been?
Pardon my language, but nevertheles. You can put the E
on this episode for that, but thank you. No, it's
it's it's it's a fun time for you to be
a Tottenham fan. And I know this year has been difficult.
I mean, I'm I'm not gonna laugh if they lose. No,

(39:50):
But does that mean not mean I'm gonna give you
your flowers if they win? That doesn't mean that either
I got a John Cena, you know, angry face tip
of the cover when they when they when they beat
when they beat Madrid, I got a John seen a
gift from you, just a tip of the cap, I mean,
I mean what else? That was a big deal.

Speaker 4 (40:12):
No, that was a big deal.

Speaker 3 (40:13):
That was about as much as I was going to get. Listen,
I thought.

Speaker 2 (40:18):
That was pretty apropos. I gave you a nice tip
of the You know what I wanted to find but
I couldn't find. It was the little kid to Derek Jeter,
you know.

Speaker 9 (40:26):
The yeah, of course, Yeah, that's a respect either either
either way, that was a small victory and you may
have a large victory coming up in yeah, just about
just about a week's time.

Speaker 2 (40:38):
I mean the run a z Frankfurt and then Bodo
who Bodo had like a little run on their own
were they They took out Lazio like they were kind
of the sender, and.

Speaker 4 (40:49):
They had scored goals in like every match at home.

Speaker 3 (40:52):
I know, like some some stats that had kind of
given Tottenham fans a little bit of scare, especially since
they had gotten that ask. I mean, if they would
have went into it three miil no Tottenham fans would
have sweated a bit, but the fact they got that
Lake goal yeah before they left London was kind of
a you know, kind of a pinch.

Speaker 2 (41:11):
To Yeah, that would have been great real quick before
we go. Yeah, top five r Yeah, let's talk top five,
which is nice. You're welcome Chelsea. Chelsea should be on
their knees bowing down to us as far as I'm concerned,
because us being in this European Final helps them. I

(41:32):
mean that that's a big reason why the fifth spot
is even a thing. So you're welcome for doing that.
I think it's true mix for the But if.

Speaker 3 (41:44):
Your league form was worth it, and I'm gonna curse again,
you'd be in the mix for that fifth spot, would
you not? Would you not? If you're would think anything
close to just bang average this year, you'd be in
the mix for that fifth spot.

Speaker 2 (41:59):
And you finished. So the Premier League is really good
this year though, gotta say a lot of good.

Speaker 3 (42:05):
There's two teams that have certainly popped up and and
and given teams fits.

Speaker 2 (42:12):
Yeah, but Newcastle coming back. We knew that was going
to happen because they funny enough, they had the injury
bug the year before where they could not stay healthy
and guess what where did they finish A spoiler alert
wasn't very good. So they had fourteen losses that year,

(42:32):
So still worse than you know, Spurs, obviously much worse
than that. I think the main difference is once they
got their guys back that year, they turned it around
a little bit. Once we got our guys back, it's
just kind of snowballed on us still. Regardless, enough about Spurs.
We talked a lot about Spurs, so we knew they'd
be in the mix. City I cannot believe that I'm

(42:53):
looking at a man's City team that's in fourth. Clearly
they're on the way to a rebuild, which what does
a rebuild look like for City is probably not what
a rebuild looks like for any other club. I'm guessing
KDB is either gone to the MLS or gone to
the golf course. One of the two. I don't even
know if he plays golf, but one of the two.

Speaker 3 (43:14):
I'm going to disagree with you there. I think that
if KDB leaves City, I think he stays in the
Premier League and he goes to another team in the
I'm gonna make it I'm gonna make a predictae at
his advanced age, I think he's he's going to go
to another Premier League team. And I'll tell you what,

(43:37):
I would not be surprised if mikel Arteta, who was
Pep's assistant at City, gives KDB a call and says,
come on down to London and help us win here.

Speaker 10 (43:51):
Because Zinchenko he did it with Jay Seuss, so he's
got a history of those guys that he.

Speaker 2 (44:02):
Knows, great players. They really worked out place.

Speaker 3 (44:05):
And Jaysus scored five goals and two matches against Palace
and then and then he done his knee and that
was the end of that. That was as as fun
as two matches as I've watched, because it was right
at the point where they were heading into the transfer
window and they were scoring goals for fun like they
did two years ago, and everybody thought that Jay Seuss

(44:27):
was going to be the answer to their problems when
everybody knew that everybody who knew what was what knew
he was a either going to dry up or because
he gets scored like one goal in like thirty matches
before that, or b get injured. And what happened He
got injured the next match and that was that. So
really it'll be it'll be interesting to see what what
KDB does, but I wouldn't be surprised, like I said,

(44:50):
to see if stay in the Premier League.

Speaker 2 (44:52):
So I think the top five race is to I
think he's going to MLS or he's gone. Personally, I
think the top five race is done. There could be
some movement for the last two games, but I think
it's pretty much soide and we're not even gonna try.
I don't. I mean again, we're gonna put out. We're
gonna put out an a squad for forty five minutes

(45:13):
at the most. At the most, so that game's over.
So they're getting three points and I don't care to
analyze it any further than that. I have one more
question and then we'll be done. Chelsea Wednesday, May twenty
eighth at two pm against Real Batiste in somewhere I

(45:34):
don't even know where that stadium is for the Europa
Conference League. I'm I'm just gonna say it. Chelsea should win.
This is not a walk in the park here, all right,
This is not this is not just a rollover game.
You know, this Spanish side, you know. I mean there's
six in La Liga, which is fine, but I'm telling

(45:57):
you i'd be a little and I know are at
least one of our Chelsea correspondence is a little nervous
about it. I think they could lose this game. I
really do. I think if I were betting, i'd take Chelsea.
Kidding me absolutely, but I don't think it's like a cinch.
I'll put it that way.

Speaker 3 (46:16):
Well, I think with just Chelsea's I think midfield and
the fact that they have a lot of pace in there,
and Bettists have struggled, especially against teams like Fiorantina keeping possession.

(46:38):
I do think that Chelsea will will end up will
end up going through. I know Anthony has had a
resurgence coming over from Manchester United, but I predicted Chelsea
We're gonna win tram the Conference League before it began.
I see no reason why they shouldn't. I know that
the leaf form hasn't been what it was, but I
do I do agree that they that they will win.

(47:01):
But again, and well, I don't think it'll be a
walk in the park. Maybe I'll say I'll say three
to one.

Speaker 2 (47:07):
Yeah, I think that's more than fair. I just like
to stir the pot. But I don't. I truly don't
think that this is a cinch. But it'll be a
tough gat. Yeah, and it'll be a game I will
watch for sure.

Speaker 4 (47:17):
Absolutely.

Speaker 2 (47:18):
Anyways, Well, we'll check in probably after the final. The
Europa League Final would be my guess. So I will
either be over the moon gloating so happy and maybe emotional,
or I may not even want to be here and
I may be so dejected that Robbie might have to
talk the entire time, and I'll just stand here and

(47:41):
watch and maybe check in.

Speaker 3 (47:43):
Well, win or lose. We should have a guest on
the next epode? Would you react to the Europa League Final? Yes,
we should.

Speaker 2 (47:56):
Are you hint? Are we having an on air production
meeting right now? Are you about?

Speaker 7 (48:00):
No?

Speaker 3 (48:00):
I mean, I mean the person. I would say the
person is almost famous. Let's put it that way, and
we'll leave it at that, because Spurs are a mystery
box this year. And so is that sentence I just
gave you.

Speaker 2 (48:13):
Yeah, I'm I'm looking forward to having Kate Hudson on
the podcast next week. So uh, until then, you don't
even get that joke?

Speaker 4 (48:21):
Of course I do.

Speaker 3 (48:21):
It's a great movie. Get on, get on the tour bus.
I'm out of here.

Speaker 2 (48:26):
Yeah exactly. We're on the way to bill Bow Spurs
or on their way to bill Bow. We'll talk to
you next week for Brett, which is me. For Robbie,
we'll talk to next job.
