Speaker 1 (00:03):
We're at it again. Welcome to another meeting of the
London Club Council. Now representing Tottenham Hotspur. In this corner
we do have Brett Blakemore and repping Arsenal is Robbie Rosenhaus.
So boys, let the banter begin.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Welcome into an inaugural match reaction edition, coming to you
right after Arsenal demolished PSV.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
Einhoven by a score of seven to one. Welcome into
the London Club Council. My name is Robbie Rosenhow's representing
the club that is the Arsenal. Brett Blake Moore representing Tottenham.
We'll get to his club in a second.
Speaker 4 (00:46):
Brett, how are you yet that it's not Tottenham. It's
Tottenham hot Spur or Spurs. You're not allowed to say
Tottenham anymore. Apparently the the that was.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
Done intentionally because, as you just alluded to their EVI
deadly the does not like.
Speaker 5 (01:01):
The media referring to said club as just Tottenham.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
They like Tottenham Hotspur or Spurs or Tottenham Hotspur football Club,
but not Tottenham because Tottenham refers to the area of London, not.
Speaker 4 (01:17):
And that's that's not new by the way, like they
just reiterated it. But actually, yeah, I don't know why there,
it's just another thing for them to get bad pr
about which Daniel Leevey loves. But but yeah, also inaugural
Match Reaction podcast, so see you next year. Inaugural will
wait for the next year's edition, So a whole year
(01:38):
until the next podcast because it's the inaugural Match Reaction pod.
Speaker 5 (01:43):
Yes it is, And what a match it was. I
mean seven to one. Honestly, at at four or.
Speaker 3 (01:50):
Five, I just started laughing when they started going in
because Einhoven basically laid down their arms and when the
game went to halftime at three to one, and we
don't need to go through every goal because but they
were off from open play, so I really like that,
so I can summarize it with that. But just the
(02:11):
fact that they went in three to one and the
penalty was so well taken by Einhoven, and Einhoven come
out and get a second goal, it's game on. But
the fact that Arsenal not only got one red out
of the half but two Brett and it was just
they were home free from there and now they basically
not only have one foot but two feet in the
(02:31):
quarterfinals of the Champions League. So for a team that
has lost cup form, has lost league form, their European
form is spectacular and I can't explain it, can you.
Speaker 4 (02:42):
Well, I'll say this, how much different would things be
if that was a red card send off, a double yellow,
because I don't think you scored nearly as many goals
and I think our teta probably sits back. I think
that honestly probably changed, excuse me, the whole game. So
if Skelly gets sent off, you're in deep trouble. I think,
(03:02):
not that you're gonna lose the game, but it's not
seven to one. I mean I think it's probably three
to two. Arsenal maybe that would be what I'd say.
It's still a win and you're still well on your
way to wherever the final may be. I don't remember
off the top of my head, but it would be
different going back to the Emirates only up a goal
(03:23):
instead of they might as well not even play the
game right now. So how much do you think that
affected everything?
Speaker 5 (03:29):
Well?
Speaker 3 (03:29):
I do think that that was a big part of it,
and I thought, for all the world, I mean, if
we were sitting together, which we were not today, but
if we were I would have said to you. I
didn't say it, I didn't text it to you immediately,
but I did say wow with a question mark, meaning
like I was surprised that he was not sent off,
(03:49):
just as you were. I mean, you sent one text
during the game it was he should have been sent off,
and you were right. I thought he should have been.
The color analyst Efinokoku on the game also said that
he thought he should have been sent off. The first
was a yellow that should have been a yellow by
the letter of the law. He should have had his
third read in under a month for the hat trick
(04:10):
of sending off for the youngster, but he stayed on
the pitch and they ended up browning them. But if
ifs nuts again, we can talk about that, and that
is absolutely a valid point. He should have been sent off.
And I agree with you that Arteta would have sat back.
He definitely would have made other substitutions that would have not.
Speaker 5 (04:37):
Not been the ones that he made, I mean, and
he would have changed the shape. And yes, they would
not have scored all those goals, But would they have
still won the game?
Speaker 3 (04:44):
Absolutely, would they have won by multiple goals, that's up
for debate. But Nevertheless, they win by I can't even
believe I'm saying this. They win by six goals. They
couldn't get one goal against Forrest. They fall third team
points behind in the league. Brett. With a game in hand,
they still have to go to Anfield. Even if they
(05:06):
won that game in hand and wanted anfield, there's still
seven points behind Liverpool with single digit games basically to
play here as we come down the stretch the league.
I know it's been a while since we've spoken. I
thought the league was over the last time we spoke.
I think the league is over this time we speak again.
I just can't see them overcoming this gap, as much
(05:29):
as I wanted them to make it close and interesting.
Do you agree with me that the Liverpool to nil
win at Newcastle, combined with the nil nil draw at
Forest has Gell just handed the title to the Reds
in Liverpool?
Speaker 4 (05:46):
I think the title has been done for weeks. I think,
you know, the last time, the last three or four episodes,
I've said that it's been dead. So I just think
Liverpool are flying right now, and City don't look like themselves,
and you guys, don't you know what's funny too about
This whole thing is that you know, we delay and delay,
and you went on a cruise for a week, so
we just haven't you know, been around and we almost
(06:09):
recorded two days ago. And they're like, oh, well wait,
and I believe you said it doesn't matter how a
because it won't change how I feel about the team.
And now all of a sudden you come in glowing
and how great they are and it's seven to one
and everyone's happy. But uh, I just think.
Speaker 5 (06:27):
You're well, you're well.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
Let me well again if you think that I'm playing
both sides to the middle, let me be perfectly clear.
Do I think that they completely short change the season
and didn't give themselves the best opportunity to either chase
down Liverpool or potentially win this Champions League by not
going out and getting a striker in January? One hundred
(06:52):
percent those criticisms remain the fact that they won seven
to one today make gloss over some of their issue,
but it doesn't change the facts of the matter is
that two of the last three years they've put up
enormous point totals, like two of the top ten in
(07:13):
Premier League history, and they have nothing to show for it.
And this year, they're not getting the job done. So
while in the microcosm of today, it was an amazing
result against the side that I.
Speaker 5 (07:27):
Expect them to get through on two legs.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
I mean, I thought, potentially with their form today that
they were going to go in there and get a draw. Now,
when they got the first goal and I saw how
things were going in the first ten or fifteen minutes,
I would have put all my money that they were
going to win that game.
Speaker 5 (07:40):
Now, not by six goals, but I was pretty sure
that they.
Speaker 3 (07:43):
Were going to win. I thought they had a lot
of possession, they had a lot of chances. They were
beating guys down both flanks. I thought that they had
the speed advantage. And once oder guard I knew was
on his a game today. He controlled things in the
middle of the park and they were obviously strong the back.
Speaker 5 (08:00):
But to your point about all their issues, yes there
are long standing issues, but like your club, we have injuries.
Speaker 6 (08:10):
So I was.
Speaker 5 (08:14):
But I'm not you.
Speaker 3 (08:15):
But I'm not using it as an excuse because I've
organized them, but I've criticized them for not going out
and fixing those issues. I'm just I'm just pointing out
the fact as to why they are so far behind,
and why I didn't expect them to get this result today,
and why I'm not going crazy. I'm not going crazy today.
I mean, I mean you said everything.
Speaker 6 (08:37):
I mean, you should? Should? You should?
Speaker 3 (08:40):
He just won by the most goals in European history
away from home.
Speaker 6 (08:46):
How can I true? Is that? A?
Speaker 3 (08:48):
Yes, this is the most goal scored in a European
fixture away from home, seven to one. They win in the.
Speaker 7 (08:58):
Netherlands, So yes, I'm going to celebrate that in the
grand scheme of things, and in the big picture, they
still are missing a lot to.
Speaker 6 (09:11):
Become that west Ham game you can't lose.
Speaker 3 (09:14):
The villain game, you can't lose. There's a bunch of
game Everton. They drew at home.
Speaker 5 (09:18):
Villa, they drew it home.
Speaker 3 (09:20):
They lost a lot of guys early in the year
with red cards and that caused them. They lost to
a Brighton team who have now suddenly hit their stride.
So and we'll get and we'll get to the European
places later. But am I happy with today's result? Yes?
Am I happy with where they sit as a club? No?
I mean this is this is going on five years
with with Arteta and they have one FA Cup to
(09:42):
show for it. Now they've put up these massive point
totals and that's great, but they still don't have any
other silverware. Now, if they go on and win the
Champions League this year, everybody has to shut their mouth.
Speaker 4 (09:54):
And if you win the Champions League, it's it's over.
Like that, you have unlimited writing rights. Obviously, Chelsea fans
will still say go get another one and.
Speaker 3 (10:04):
Talk yeah right, go get another one or we were
the first one in the club. But for now, But
for now.
Speaker 6 (10:09):
I mean, but no one will be able to say anything.
Speaker 3 (10:12):
Nobody will be able to say a word, especially if
they do it without a striker. I mean, can you
imagine this, we're gonna get They're gonna now, They're they're
gonna now. This affords them. Now what I will say though,
is the benefit.
Speaker 8 (10:26):
Okay, throughout the entire match, the one thing I was
thinking was if they can somehow put it on them,
which they did, then they don't have to play an
a line up next week and by the time the
quarterfinals roll around against the Madrid side, which we know because.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
Of the brackets, they're either gonna play Real Madrid who
won today to one over Atletico but they still have
to go to Atletico, so that todd for debate. But
Arsenal will have to go to Madrid to play one
of those games. Whether it's against Reality or Atletico is
up for debate right now. But just the fact that
(11:07):
they're gonna have Socca back hopefully by then, They're gonna
have Martin Elly hopefully back by then. Order Guard played
a great game today. He'll be potentially going back to
play against his old club. He came from the Real
Madrid academy and.
Speaker 9 (11:20):
Signed for Arsenal a few seasons ago, so it could
be emotional for him returning to the bernabout. So a
lot going on there, But first things first. A seven
to one win today, Brett, And I'm not trying to
gloss over their issues, but for me not to sit
here like you said and smile and just take a
victory lap, even a small one.
Speaker 3 (11:40):
Is this and and the fact that they've they've completely
made the match next week irrelevant. Is a win today
in the short term, for the club, for the fans,
for our teta because the league is done in dusted,
as we talked about, it's been a malaise in the league,
and and and the forest result, and and the and
the West Ham game. I mean, those back to back
(12:03):
matches basically doom them and unless Liverpool hit some sort
of rut, which they're.
Speaker 5 (12:08):
Not going to possible, but I can't I just I.
Speaker 3 (12:13):
Just can't see it. And Arsenal obviously would have to
go up there and win, and I'm not sure I
see that either. Even though they took up I believe
they took a two zero lead against Liverpool last season
or two seasons go at Anfield, I think it will
end up being too too. Nevertheless, Liverpool with the best
side in England right now and arguably the best side
in Europe, so it's gonna take a lot to beat
them in either competition. And they're they're gonna take on
(12:38):
PSG that you may have listened to this by the
time they do that, but that'll be on Wednesday in
a very spicy two legged tie. But again domestically, I'm
not happy with them in in Europe obviously their form
has been stellars, so it's it's a mixed bag for Arsenal.
Before we get to your club and again, any any
other thoughts on on kind of where they I mean,
(13:00):
I think I kind of summed up my feelings there
pretty well. I don't think that am I allowed to
feel like like two different ways because again, they're in
all these competitions. Like it's like you Brett, like like
you know your club, you know, has gotten some really
good results in Europe, but in the league, I mean
other than the you know, a couple of games before
(13:21):
the City match it had been it hadn't been good.
And obviously the cups you're out of. So but you
can celebrate your European form because look at all those
young kids that scored in that match against Salzpor, Right,
So how do you feel.
Speaker 6 (13:36):
Well, that's a lot to dive into with that.
Speaker 4 (13:39):
I would say as far as your club goes, No,
I you should be happy about this. And it is
the Champions League. It's not some you know, it's not
like the Conference League or even Europa where there's all
really doesn't matter all that much. Like it is a
big deal to essentially move on to the next round
within one leg. So no, you should be happy with that.
(13:59):
I do think it is is like alarming though the
last two Premier League results, especially west Ham at home,
like to me that that's the biggest one that I
circles like that just can't happen, like Villa good Side,
you know, Forrest this season for however reason good Side,
I still can't believe it, but it's undeniable good Side.
(14:19):
But but west Ham are not they, I mean with
the whole Graham platter thing at home. Just can't can't
lose that one.
Speaker 3 (14:26):
In my o terrible, Noah, it was, it was, it
was terrible. But again a London derby, I'm not excusing it.
I mean that that basically killed off any hope that
they had of winning it. And in the Forest game
and a couple with the Liverpool win at Newcastle.
Speaker 4 (14:40):
Again, I think it was killed off already, but but.
Speaker 3 (14:43):
That officially killed it off. I mean, I still. I mean,
at one point, a couple of weeks ago, it was
down to five, so I mean, you know, and that's
and that's two games, so I mean that you can't
kill it off at that point. Now we're sitting at thirteen,
even though they have a game in hand, and it's
pretty much I mean, arsenal right now, the book he's
having at twenty to one. I mean, so if you
wanted the place a bet on arsenal right now and
(15:04):
you want it to better than Vegas or overseas or
in what jurisdiction. I believe they're twenty to one to
win it right now, so a very very long shot
onto your club. And some interesting news coming out today
injury injury wise, and a real bummer that he's not
(15:24):
going to be available for the next two matches against
Alcmar and Bournemouth. And that's probably your best player this season,
and that's COOLi Sevsky. So before we get to anything else,
let's react to a little bit of the breaking news
that he's going to be out now for about a
week and maybe more.
Speaker 4 (15:41):
Well, this is classic Spurs, at least twenty four to
twenty five Spurs, maybe classic Spurs. Ever is we got
some good news today and we got some bad news today.
So the good news was is that Romero, van Derven
and Selanki are all eligible to be in the squad
like they're I don't know if they're going to start,
but they're gonna probably most likely be in the squad
(16:02):
on Thursday, also in the Netherlands to take on a
z or as we would say, an American a z
So that's good news and that's unbelievably good news because
Dan So and Archie Gray and Ben Davis can't do
it forever, you know. And when Van Derven is out there,
he is like you would say, a Rolls Royce. He
is unbelievably good. And if they let him go ever,
(16:25):
I mean I would be stunned. I mean they it's
not like a Harry Kane situation. I get that, but
I would be. He's just so freaking good. So to
have him back potentially for Thursday, whether it's you know,
sixty minutes or thirty minutes or whatever, I'll take what
I can get. With Mickey and Romero two, who got
(16:46):
selected for Argentina. Funny how that works. Gets it hasn't
played for Spurs in months, he played one game in
probably like six months, still gets selected for Argentina.
Speaker 6 (16:56):
Go figure.
Speaker 3 (16:58):
Wasn't that the Chelsea match that he came back for
and then immediately.
Speaker 4 (17:01):
Departed correct different injuries though, So it does.
Speaker 3 (17:07):
It doesn't matter which way you yell, you get bingo
on your Bingo card, you're still yelling out.
Speaker 4 (17:12):
Yeah that is correct. So so that's a good news.
But yeah, the bad news is with Decky I think
it's more of a knock than it is, like he's
definitely gonna be out Thursday and like you said, potentially Sunday,
something to do with his foot, which I'm surprised doesn't
happen more often, to be honest, but he has been
our best player, point blank, without a doubt.
Speaker 6 (17:32):
This season.
Speaker 4 (17:33):
He's been He's been good in the midfield, he's been
good on the wing. He scored a beautiful goal against
Ipswich the other week. Uh, just a curling off the
post and end keep had no chance at it to
really ice that game away. So he's been unbelievable and
one of the better chants in football for my money
with the gimme, gimme give me a ginger from Sweden.
(17:54):
So that's a that's a big hit and I get it.
But uh, you know, that's how it's been with Spurs
this season. Has It's been good news and it's been
bad news. And I think I'll leave it at this
and said, every time that we seem to see the
light at the end of the tunnel, it ends up
becoming an oncoming train, and I think it's another example
(18:15):
of that.
Speaker 6 (18:15):
Unfortunately.
Speaker 3 (18:17):
So how do you see things playing out up front
with Silanky now back and Johnson on the right, son
or Tell potentially on the left. So is it going
to be a four to three three or so? How
do you see them lining up differently basically in the
(18:39):
next two games. Do you see the same eleven going
out there or do you see them changing it out?
Speaker 4 (18:45):
I definitely see them changing. I would argue that they're
going to put the stronger side out for Razy and
I think a Z Sorry I said it unernically. I
said it ironically earlier that time. I just said it
on accident against Azed, I would say that's the stronger side.
I mean, they rotated against City. They didn't start Sonny,
(19:06):
they didn't start Decky, and people were very upset about that.
I would argue that that was the right decision because
now that they actually can rotate. And I actually wanted
to bring this up, so I'm happy you brought this up.
Mattis Tell was basically the reason we convinced him to
come to Spurs is game time, right, Like, he wanted
to play minutes and Byron wasn't given it to him.
(19:27):
So I would have to assume that because he can
play down the middle and he can play off the
left right, that those are his two main spots. I
don't know if he can play off the right, probably could.
I would assume he's kind of the whoever's rotating out
he's going to fill that spot for this game. So,
for instance, I would be willing to bet that tomorrow
(19:47):
he starts down the middle. Sonny will start out on
the left and probably either well probably Brennan out on
the right, and then we'll go from there. I forgot
the decies out again, so that sucks. But then maybe
against Bourne myth at home on Sunday, and you see
Tel down the left and maybe Silanki down the middle
for a little bit. Yeah, correct, Yeah, So that's kind
(20:08):
of where I see Tel fitting into that.
Speaker 8 (20:11):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (20:11):
Are they going to line up differently at all?
Speaker 8 (20:13):
No?
Speaker 4 (20:13):
I just think they move around Tell to fill in
the gap wherever he needs because he wants to play,
which is the one thing we have in spades is
we will give you all the minutes you want, and
so he'll fill in, and then we'll we'll rest Sunny
a little bit, or rest Selanky or god forbid wherever
chardlestson And is these days. So that's kind of how
I see things panning out. But I think the stronger
(20:35):
side out of the two matches. I think the stronger
side we'll see Thursday against a zed.
Speaker 10 (20:40):
And I think, as you know, as we've discussed, you know,
that's that's really where they're you know that that's where they.
Speaker 3 (20:51):
Have to make their bones this year. And then they're
they're facing an outmore side that's sixth in the Iridvisi,
which is the Dutch League. I mean a sixth place
toutch side, even against Tottenham, who have struggled domestically. I
mean you see now what the European sides have done,
(21:13):
and not just Arsenal today, I mean Aston Villa watching
that match today, I mean Bruce Bruger could have had
a couple of goals, there's no doubt about it, and
they got one and and Villa got too late, kind
of by chance. One was on an own goal and
the other was a penalty. But Villa had some chances
to where they could have got another couple of goals
(21:35):
from open play. So you saw that that Villa really,
you know, who are just in the mix for European
places and may not get the Champions League next year.
So if if form holds, I mean I expect Chelsea
to do really well in the Conference League. I expect
Tottenham and Man United to do really well in the
Europa League. And I expect the three English clubs, you know,
(21:57):
and and forget City, I mean train Wreck did this
year and I yeah, and I expect the three English
clubs to do well in the Champions League. Now Liverpool
have a tricky tie with PSG, and like you said,
that's going to affect the European places. And before we
get to that, just a couple more things on on
on Tottenham, just coming out of coming to a Tottenham
(22:19):
Hotspur So listen, we we aren't taping this unfortunately, we
aren't taping this, uh in the same studio today, but
if if we if we do in the future, and
if we are, Brett and I will have a jar
in the middle of us that anytime one of us
refers to his club as just Tottenham, you have to
throw a chicken finger in there.
Speaker 6 (22:42):
And I always love that.
Speaker 3 (22:44):
You know.
Speaker 4 (22:44):
What's the best part about that, too, is that how
many chants and we could go down the list that
just say Tottenham, you know what I mean, I mean,
I could have a million of them. So it's just
to me it's just stupid. It's it's a losing position,
like if you're running for office, it's a losing argument
in my opinions, just getting mad over something that is irrelevant.
(23:05):
I did want to mention this too before we get
off of Spurs.
Speaker 3 (23:09):
But yeah, and I had one more thing to mention
on Spurs there, but go ahead.
Speaker 4 (23:12):
I think the last three results, specifically not results, but
last three performances have been really encouraging from Spurs really,
even the loss to Man City at home, I thought
they were very unlucky to not get a point out
of that, if not win the match. That entire second
half is one way traffic. Doku barely touched the ball
that second half. I thought Spurs really good. I switch
(23:35):
away shaky at the start, and then once they settled in,
they're really good. For one, I thought they're really good
against United. United had absolutely nothing at home. Not a
great team at this point in time, but they're desperate too,
so especially I mean, and that was coming off of
the two Cup losses, which they were just irrelevant. But
the last three performances, now that we're starting to get
(23:58):
a little bit of rotation and we can are to
bring on sunning in the sixtieth minute or bring on
Decky in the sixtieth minute and not have to run
them until they're dead. I think it has shown instant
improvement at least performances and you know, six out of
nine points in the league.
Speaker 3 (24:14):
So one more thing on Spurs that has popped up
since we last spoke, just something to keep on your
radar here as we hit the summertime, it appears Spurs
or leading in the chase for a youngster named Tyler
Dibbling from Southampton who Levy apparently is holding out that
(24:36):
the valuation will come down, but right now Southampton are
valuing him at fifty to sixty million. Now they're going
to go down. He's going to want to play in
the Premier League and he's the guy who perhaps could
fit the mold there of bringing in these young players
like Archie Gray that they brought in an Ode Bear
and the like. And I just think that that would
(24:58):
be a really good addition. Just just kind of mark
that name Tyler Dibbling is one to watch potentially for
Tottenham in the future. Kind of caught my eye because
when I when I when I saw Southampton play live earlier,
this year. He caught my eye and I've seen them
play a couple of times, so.
Speaker 6 (25:13):
I'm sure they want to go in fors A again too.
Speaker 3 (25:16):
I'm sure that's well, that would be the big fish
obviously coming from Crystal Palace. He would do wonders for
the team and immediately go into your still starting eleven
every week, but well that's for the summertime. So Tottenham
right now, like I mean, you're you're you're happier with
their league form. I mean thirty three Europe.
Speaker 4 (25:35):
Thirty three points and eighteenth switch is seventeen, so we're
relatively safe from that.
Speaker 3 (25:41):
No, that's going to happen.
Speaker 6 (25:43):
Yeah, they're just kind of go through the motions.
Speaker 3 (25:45):
Don't embarrass yourself in the league the rest of the year.
Speaker 4 (25:47):
The league is now the rotation games. That's just the fact.
Does the matter right now? And Europa League is the
A games And yep, that's and that's just where we're at.
It is what it is.
Speaker 3 (25:57):
So except except for the Chelsea match, which I think
they'll play that, they will play the shot. They're not
going to play a second rate side agains.
Speaker 4 (26:04):
Last year, I was so excited to play that game,
so excited to go to the.
Speaker 6 (26:09):
Bridge, couldn't wait.
Speaker 4 (26:10):
Yeah, I have learned quickly to not be excited to
go to the bridge.
Speaker 6 (26:14):
I want nothing. I don't want to know.
Speaker 3 (26:18):
So no, no.
Speaker 5 (26:19):
The blue was the color and also was your feelings
as well.
Speaker 3 (26:23):
But again that's that's for the that's for the trade,
and that's for the summertime. All right. We've talked a
lot about Arsenal, we talked a lot about Tottenham. Just
just kind of as we go around the top six
and include the European conversation into it. I mean, the
the the third place Forest and tenth place Bill are
(26:44):
separated by six points. So that's eight teams separated by
six points. I mean, if you I mean, I mean
Liverpool and Arsenal are going to in all likelihood finish
one to two, and then it's it's a you know,
like I said, in all likelihood going to finish one too,
and then it's basically pick your pick your favorite horse
(27:08):
for third, pick your favorite horse for fourth.
Speaker 4 (27:10):
I mean, I think could be completely you know, it's
that to me is completely up for grabs, and it
could be look completely different in a month's time.
Speaker 6 (27:19):
It could look completely different. So yeah, which I look which.
Speaker 3 (27:22):
Is at least. So, so that's kind of my point
as to at least we have some sort of jeopardy
this season in the league where you look at the
bottom of the league right now that Tottenham and Everton
and even Wolves to Everton definitely and Tottenham, yes to
an extent, and Wolves to minor extent, have escaped the
you know, oh my goodness, we may be going down.
(27:44):
The three teams that came up are going to go
right back down. So there's things.
Speaker 6 (27:47):
Goals are still in danger. Honest.
Speaker 3 (27:51):
I think they have too much talent. You have too good,
way too good a player. I just I don't I
don't see it. I just think those other three teams
are are especially especially a bottom two.
Speaker 6 (28:03):
I do love seeing lesser go down.
Speaker 3 (28:05):
Yeah I love that. Yeah, yeah, they can get lost.
Speaker 4 (28:08):
Uh and yep, off Jamie Vardy and bleep your party.
That's what I got to say to that.
Speaker 3 (28:13):
So so, so to my bigger point, at least in
the league we have something to look forward to down
the stretch, because as you said, you're gonna be rotating.
Arsenal are going to be now I mean rotating, I
mean I mean if it gets to the last couple
of games, because if they stay alive in Europe, I mean,
once they start getting healthier players back, I mean, yes,
(28:35):
they're still going to be going for it and they're
still going to be playing strong sides. But if if
it means you know, we're resting a couple of guys,
you know, midway through a Saturday or Sunday match, knowing
that you have Madrid or you have Liverpool or PSG
coming up midweek, I mean, that's what they're gonna have
to do, and hopefully they'll get some players back like
Soaka and Martin Alley. It sucks that Havert is out
since we last spoke, and it just it just as
(28:59):
a bummer that they didn't go out buy anybody. But
they're gonna be in Europe next year obviously, and and
it's gonna be uh, it's gonna be fun to find out.
At least that'll be kind of what we focus in on.
You knows as to what we kind of don't know
at the end of the season as to who's going
to finish third through you know, tenth in what order.
Speaker 4 (29:19):
Basically, I will say this just looking at the Europa
League bracket, and I do want to mention Chelsea too
before we go, because the protests make no sense to me.
Speaker 5 (29:30):
But but I'm.
Speaker 4 (29:33):
Looking at the Europa League bracket. This would be Spurs
path that they beat a Z. The next round would
be tough either i AX or Frankfurt. That's a tough matchup.
But then to go out of that for the UH
semi final, it'd be either olympicos as that young that's
a team I've literally never heard of, olymp Yes Greece.
Speaker 3 (29:56):
Or Young Boys which is from Sweden.
Speaker 4 (29:57):
It's it's not young Boys, it's something else like Bodo
and Glint. Don't even know what that is, I guess,
and then Lazio and Pleasant too on the other side.
So to me, yeah, to me, Spurs have to get
through that I very difficult.
Speaker 3 (30:17):
La no picnic, No.
Speaker 6 (30:19):
It's no picnic.
Speaker 4 (30:20):
But to me, the toughest team is IAX or Frankfurt
at least to get to the final, and the final
we can talk about United or Associodad or Leone Aroma
or another one. So so that would be a tough final.
But I think to get there, it's not like It's
not like it was in the past where the Champions
League clubs come down and then you've got these world
(30:43):
beaters in there, you know what I mean. Like now,
it's it's not out of the realm of possibility that
Spurs could get to this final here. I don't think
so Like there's not one There's not one team that
I look at and go, We've got no chance, you
know what I mean, Like we're not beating Real Madrid
in a two leged tie.
Speaker 3 (30:59):
You know, as I said earlier in the podcast about
English sides going into Europe, I mean it just seems
to be that. I mean when you have and again
putting City aside and all their problems. I mean, look
where Villa Arsenal and Liverpool finished in this new Champions
League format. They all finished with buys into the final sixteen.
(31:26):
So that bodes well for Tottenham and that boats well
for Manchester United. Now United just went out of the
FA Cup kind of with a with a whimper. Yeah
at home, I.
Speaker 6 (31:41):
Wish I had like a laugh for something, but.
Speaker 3 (31:43):
To Fullham, yeah we need that laugh that we always
hear on talkSPORT. Hopefully they haven't copyrighted it, but nevertheless
Manchester United and Tottenham. Lazzio is another team that I
would put in there. Real bettis the Spanish side is
another team perhaps would put Yeah, yeah, well, well yeah exactly,
(32:05):
and and nobody's taking a bus to uh where wherever.
Speaker 4 (32:08):
The that's a joke for Americans only there. I want
to Can we talk about Chelsea real quick too?
Speaker 3 (32:17):
Yeah? Yeah we can. But but I do agree with
you that. I mean, you should have hope that they
can go on a run and somehow, some way the
pot of gold at the end of this crap season
m hm would be a Champions League birth finishing twelfth,
so whatever you're going to finish.
Speaker 5 (32:37):
Which would be the summer beaming.
Speaker 3 (32:41):
I mean, do you.
Speaker 6 (32:42):
Think that I would?
Speaker 4 (32:43):
I would sing the one chance the watching Tottenham on
a Wednesday night you play Thursday because you're bleeping bleep.
I would play that and sing it every single day
of the sommer June. Yes, well no, I wouldn't sing
it to you. I'd sing it in and you're around,
but I can't sing it directly to you because you're
gonna mean the Champions League too. Maybe if if Chelsea
(33:05):
good segue, if they don't make the top four, I
could sing it to our friend Molina and to our
friend Jesse.
Speaker 3 (33:11):
Yeah, it's too bad. That chance has a lot of
cobwebs on it. You know, I remember early in our
friends he kept studying, he kept he kept studying the
not arsenal meme, which was cute for about two seconds,
and then that that chance.
Speaker 6 (33:24):
I did hang on.
Speaker 4 (33:26):
I didn't keep sending it. I left it as my
wallpaper at work.
Speaker 6 (33:29):
That's yeah.
Speaker 3 (33:30):
So any time I came in, I had to be
they weren't Champions League. Little did you know? He always
did Three years later and you haven't sniffed any Champions League. Meanwhile,
I'm now with two feet No, you can't do crickets
because I just want I just scored a.
Speaker 6 (33:46):
Touchdown today, crickets in my direction.
Speaker 3 (33:50):
But that's fair. Where's Buddy Holly? No, but Chelsea, I
mean to Chelsea for a second.
Speaker 6 (33:57):
I just don't get the protest, Robbie, I don't understand it.
Speaker 3 (33:59):
Before we wrap everything up, I just think that they're
not they're not in love with the with the with
how they how they operate, spending.
Speaker 6 (34:08):
All the money in the world and getting away.
Speaker 3 (34:10):
With contracks these long term contract I just don't I'm
just I just think overall they're just not happy with
kind of how things have progressed and they don't see
U a a kind of forward momentum. I mean there
was early in the season. I mean think about it.
I mean we were talking about Chelsea potentially in the
(34:32):
title race. I mean think about how laughable that is now.
But think about that, Like at one point, if you
go back two three months, a little old Chelsea we're
in the third world.
Speaker 6 (34:44):
You know, they were tied with ar little old Chelsea.
Chelsea the biggest clubs in Europe.
Speaker 3 (34:50):
But I'm being sarcastic, Yeah, I mean, but you know,
that's that's what they you know, Jason Coundy would say
it on talks for Yes or or some of the
some of the some of the YouTubers would would you know,
would kind of dismiss their their chance is sarcastically. And
you know what, now, now, who's being sarcastic because they've
kind of you know, hit a hit a run of
(35:10):
form here and they're not now now they do have
some easy opponents coming up, but I'm not I don't
like what I've seen. If I'm a Chelsea fan, now
they're gonna win the Conference League. I They're their odds
are surely so there. I firmly believe they're gonna win
the conference league, so that'll be a trophy and they'll
get an automatic bit into the Europa League next year,
(35:31):
but that's not what they're aiming for. Obviously, still still
in the hunt for Champions League. Palmer has fallen off,
but again.
Speaker 4 (35:38):
He's not I don't recognize as Batist I recognize, and
Fiorentina I recognize. Other than that, I don't see a
single club that that I'm like even has a candle's
chance against Chelsea, So maybe I don't know that would
be the chances if is if Batiste go through and.
Speaker 3 (35:59):
I and I mixed up Batist and Bill Bao by
the way, Bill and no, no, well no, Bill bow
is the one in Europa League. Batiste is the one
in uh in Conference. Yes, I mixed up the two
Spanish cities ideas.
Speaker 4 (36:14):
Nevertheless, but I don't get Here's my point though, Robbie,
is that I, you know, say what you want about
their American owners, and they talked about an All Star
Game and YadA YadA, right, but like, what's the alternative
to that to spending all the money. There's top prospect
out there, go and get them and spend over the
moon and never get penalized for it because the Premier
(36:36):
League is a bunch of calaries.
Speaker 3 (36:37):
I think they're also upset with the fact that they're
thinking about potentially moving out of that ground and moving
into a new stadium, so that would be that's hallowed
that's hallowed ground to them. It's like it's like Fenway
Park or Yankee Stadium or Wrigley Field here in the
States to baseball fans in those cities of Boston, New
York and Chicago. So this is like, you know, it's
an iconic stadium. You know, when Arsenal move if they
(37:00):
still have won the Premier League since they moved into
the Emirates. I mean, Chelsea have all their success at
this ground, and I think that's one of the issues.
I also think that it is small that they have
seen that the Glazers have kind of run things into
the ground. Yeah, no, I know it's small at United.
(37:22):
And I'm not sure that they're in love with this
hot shot American owner. Although he's got deep pockets, that's there.
They're just not in love with the model that he
is instituting.
Speaker 4 (37:35):
That's more protestable than Chelsea in my opinion, because he's
spending all the money in the world, Like, I don't
know what else you want, Like I would give an
arm and a leg for Levy to finally spend some wages.
He'll buy the players, and that's fine, but he'll only
buy the players if the wages are manageable and he
has like whenever he talks about, oh, I spend money too,
(37:56):
and we're up there and spending that's talking about like
the transaction fees. Right, if you look at wages, Spurs
are not even in the top fifteen in the Premier League.
Like they never spend any money top fifteen grain of salt.
They could, they're they're not very high up in the
prem You get my point, And to me, that's always
where the bread is buttered. Like for instance, what if
(38:18):
Jack Grealish was available in January because he's not getting
enough time in Man City. It's probably gonna cast arm
and a leg in wages, you know, because he's been
playing for Man City. But it would have helped out
a lot. Probably wouldn't have been that big of a
transfer fee either, but it's the wages, so they didn't
go after him, and they they're gonna go after what's
his name, dibbing Dibbling, who I still am not is
familiar with that. I probably will be as we get
(38:40):
closer to the summer. His wages shockingly probably not going
to be that high compared to Grealish. So that's my
biggest concern. You know, who's not.
Speaker 6 (38:49):
A concern to that.
Speaker 4 (38:50):
Todd Bowley doesn't care about wages whatsoever. So well, what's
the alternative. That's what I asked of Chelsea fans. I
get your upset about leaving the bridge if that is true,
and that's gonna happen, But financially, like, I don't know
what else he can do to make it happy, you know.
Speaker 5 (39:05):
But yeah, But but.
Speaker 3 (39:06):
Here's the thing. They have no trophies, they have one
League Cup final, they have no Champions League qualification. They
spent a billion on transfers and right now they're basically
what fifty to fifty two. Well they're going to be
probably be in Europe next year, but they are fifty
to fifty to make Champions League at best. So if
(39:27):
you're a Chelsea fan that's used to being in Champions
League every year and you see Arsenal completely pass you by,
you've seen Liverpool fly by you and you see these
teams that are now in the mix with you. I mean,
if you're a Chelsea fan and you you stick your
nose up at squads like Bournemouth and like Brighton and
(39:49):
like Falls.
Speaker 4 (39:50):
Yeah, but we're talking about the football team, not the fans,
you know.
Speaker 3 (39:54):
No, but but those teams, right, No, I know, but
those But Chelsea's used to winning things. They're used to
being in finals, They're used to advancing in competitions. They
used to in Europe, in Europe's elite and right now
they're playing on Thursdays on frozen pitches in the middle
of nowhere. So you know it's true. So while all
(40:19):
three of our clubs, Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal could be
in Champions League a year from today, it's going to
be a harder road to hoe for Chelsea because of
the fact that their league form has completely hit a rut.
And I just think that moving forward, the transfer strategy
(40:45):
is not going to change for for for for Bolli Brett.
Speaker 6 (40:48):
I just I don't think it should, Yeah, I just.
Speaker 3 (40:54):
I just don't think so. Yeah. So all right, well
that was that was quite the action. Pack get to catch. Uh. Yeah,
we got through today. It's been a couple of weeks.
I went away for a while, but I had some
things to attend to on the work schedule. But it
was good to gather back together again and kind of
(41:15):
recap what's been going on and the fact that we
put it off and folks, just a little peek behind
the scenes here. We were going to take this on
Monday night and I said, no, let's wait and let's
do it. Let's do a match reaction pod for the
first time and and we'll do it to get my reaction.
(41:37):
And while I thought that Arsenal were going to show
up today and draw or do something that was going
to make me angry, little did I know that they
were going to show up today and score seven goals
away from home. So again for Brett Blakemore at Robbie Rosenhouse.
Seven goals, I mean, there's one goal for Tottenham and
(41:58):
that's to win on Thursday. We'll be back next week
to recap everything that happens this weekend. Tottenham take on Bournemouth,
Arsenal take on Manchester United back in the league, and
we'll be back with you on the London Club Council,
