Speaker 1 (00:04):
Well at it again. Welcome to another meeting of the
London Club Council. Now representing Tottenham Hotspur.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
In this corner we do have Brett Blakemore and repping
Arsenal is Robbie Rosenhaus.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
So boys, let the banter begin. Welcome into another edition
of the London Club Council. I am Brett Blakemore and
I represent Tottenham Hotspur, the club that just put a
beatdown of battering in the deck he had against Manchester City,
the four time Champions Champions League winners. No match for
Tottenham Hotspur, the Mighty Spurs. Joining me as always is

(00:42):
Robbie Rosenhouse, who represents Arsenal. Robbie, how are you?

Speaker 2 (00:45):
I'm doing okay, as are Arsenal three points better and
sitting in fourth. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
Now I know this little side tangent, but I haven't
actually checked in with you. How's Florida? Are you enjoying
it because it's freezing here?

Speaker 2 (00:59):
Well, it's about seventy five degrees today, really nice. Last
Thanksgiving when we taped an episode of London Club Council,
I was actually pool side this very week as we
taped an episode. As I sat in my lounge chair today,
I opted for the central air of the house that

(01:19):
I am staying in my family's house, so we are
recording from indoors not outdoors today. Although the weather outside
is fantastic.

Speaker 1 (01:28):
Yeah, the weather outside here is frightful and it's not
very delightful, but is delightful. Though, is the absolute beating,
the embarrassing just destruction of the club known as Manchester
City in the deciad or the empty ad? It was
the empty ad at the end of it beca Spurs
just battered him four nil in Manchester. James Madison back

(01:51):
in the lineup. He gets two goals count of two
Pedro Poro with a screamer in the second half. If
you look at the stats, you know, like City did
have the majority of the possession. Spurs did out xg
them though a lot of the chances that City had
I thought like there was a couple in the first
five ten minutes, that first initial wave. You know that

(02:13):
you got to survive anytime are on the road. I
think Holland had won the Vicario more on. Vicario later
made a great save on but other than that, a
lot of their chances were reduced to crosses. Kind of
like when one of our clubs runs out of ideas
and there's a bunch of people that they just start
sending the ball into the box from the outside. There's
nothing happens. I felt like that was man City for

(02:35):
at least seventy five to eighty percent of this game.
They were not incisive at all and Spurs were. Every
time Spurs came down they looked dangerous. Could have been
more than four. Honestly, I absolutely adore this game. I
could watch it over and over, and kol Sevsky to me,
I know Madison was player of the match, and I

(02:55):
love Madison more than anyone. I'm apologized for him countless times.
But Decky to me, is unbelievably class. He is so good.
So yeah, nothing but good things to say about this game. Well,
it's just frustrating.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
Robbi. Well, six wins, five losses and one draw through
twelve matches, the second best goal differential in the league.
So there's definitely gold in the hills. But unfortunately they've
hit some land mines as they've tried to reach the
pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. The
Ipswitch match, we can't dismiss, but the fact that they

(03:29):
came back out of an international break, played a team
that was above them and put in a performance like
that is definitely signs that there's resolve there and there's
certainly character within the squad. All that being said, this
is a Manchester City team that is a shell of
itself at this point. And I think alarm bell started

(03:51):
to go off when they lost to Sporting who take
on Arsenal tomorrow Tuesday in the Champions League. That's gonna
be no going to Portugal.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
No, even though they lost their manager, yes, but still.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
With Victor Gokherish and really a decent defense. So but
but but back to Manchester City. I mean, they've they've
been on a losing run here. It's the first time
that Pep had lost all those matches in a row.
Obviously there's discontent, but this isn't about City. Tottenham went
in there and did what they needed to do. They
took advantage of a week in city side, at a

(04:29):
place where they feel very comfortable playing. Yes, so that
clearly helps. And Koulaseevski, for you know, the last ten
games of last season or fifteen games of last season,
when he was dogging it some of the time. I mean,
and and there's no doubt, you know, there's no doubt
that you know, he wasn't the only one that wasn't
putting in the best performances. He is certainly proving his

(04:53):
worth this year. Healthy and you know, he got that
new contract and he's going to be here for a
while and he clearly is one of the big lynch
pins in the attack that and just trying to kind
of implement as he sits almost two years into the job.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
Yeah. And the other thing I wanted to mention too,
is that this wasn't a game like back when Conte's
Spurs would beat go in and beat City. It would
be the complete opposite, right, It would be sit back,
It would be absorb, absorb, absorb and spring and hope
you can get like Sonny in behind or something. That
would be the way that they would win. That was
not how Spurs won on Saturday. Spurs won by winning

(05:32):
the ball high up the pitch, exactly what Ann's wants
to do. He wants to press, He wants to put
the pressure on them in their own third, win the
ball back and then turn it around and score. The
first two goals were that it was Decky winning a
fifty to fifty ball. The second goal particularly that was
one where City had the ball or trying to play
out of the back. Our pressure, I said, our sue me.

Speaker 2 (05:54):
Spurs R is a letter in the alphabet.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
Yeah, correct, the pressure that Spurs put on. I'm forced
to turnover. Madison hits it the Sun, who gets it
back to Madison, who dinks it in. I mean that
is a ball to a t I've got stats for
you here. Goals per match Spurs highest in the Premier League.
Goals conceded per match Spurs are the third lowest. The
only two conceding less goals per match are Liverpool and Arsenal.

(06:20):
So it's not like we're wide open at the back either.
It's just and then, I mean I could go, I
could go on XG possession one in the final third,
touch in the opposition box. Spurs all top three and
every one of them in the prem I could do
that all day long. But it has it's the consistency.
It's not like we're just letting up, you know, four
or five goals to those ip switches and it's just

(06:43):
on those days they're just not on it. And that's
not what champions Championship level teams do, and I don't
think they're at that point yet. But when Spurs are on,
they could beat anyone in the world when they're when
they're playing like that, that doesn't mean that they're going
to win the Press, that doesn't mean they're gonna win
every trophy. All I'm saying is that they have the quality.

(07:04):
When they're on, they can be that good. And I
think that's not being too insane.

Speaker 2 (07:10):
I while I think that everything came together up front,
City did have a couple of chances where they you know,
they could they could they could have scored. So while
this was a great snapshot into what they're capable of,

(07:31):
let's not forget the ipswitch game, the bright game. And
I know you don't want to talk about these, just
like I don't want to talk about the match against
Bournemouth or I don't want to talk about the match
against Liverpool where they where they blew it late and
they should have won. And now you know, they could
have been six points back and now they're nine points
back or whatever the math was or whatever it is.

(07:51):
I think that's what it is. Now they're nine points
and they wouldn't have each had a drawer. They wouldn't
have each got a point, Arsenal wouldn't have gotten this three.
So they dropped points there. They draw points against City,
you know, so that every team you know goes through
you know, a patch where you know they're not playing
their best. And I think that if this is, you know,

(08:14):
because I looked at the Tottenham schedule and you have
a ton of tough matches and not at home either,
like you still you still, I mean there's a anfield,
I mean, just a ton of matches that they have
to go to and you know, we'll see if they're

(08:35):
up for it. But this, when I say that this
was certainly a it should give you as a fan,
a lot of confidence that they can do that, and
you just express those feelings and you're not without merit there.
I just want to hold out a little more kind
of I want to pull back at the notion that

(08:55):
they can you know, that they're going to string all
these performances together because ill that. But but until they do,
like I'm still gonna think that, you know, and they
play Fall this week as we kind of switch from
you know, what's happened to what's going to happen here?
Roma And I was gonna say, you know, they they did.
They take on a Roma side that is actually just

(09:16):
hired a new coach as they got rid of their
I think they sit mid table as about six teams
in Syria are about one point separated. I sent that
graphic earlier today just how crazy that that race is
through the first third of their season, so to be
a tricky date for a Tottenham. But and then they
go and take on Fulham in a London derby on

(09:39):
the weekend and Fulham uh not with the greatest of
results last weekend, So it'll it'll be interesting to see
out of that match getting all the roses and all
the bouquets thrown at them, okay, and wiping away the
ridiculous loss that they had to have. Switch whether or
not they can take this and springboard forward, And it's

(10:02):
totally a possibility, There's no doubt about it. Because if
you look at second through fifth, sixth, whatever it is,
you know, Chelsea Arsenal, like Chelsea and Arsenal drew like
these teams city loss, like they've lose in all these games,
Like Arsenal loss they had won since I was there
back in October, Like yeah, you know, prior to this
last last game, which we'll get to in a minute.

(10:22):
But to think that they can't get in the top
four without performance with performances like that, like I'd be
stupid to say that they weren't a contender. But it's
just I just don't think that they're consistent enough yet
where I can believe that they're gonna put in those
performances weekend and weekend. And I think I'm fair to
say that.

Speaker 1 (10:40):
I and I agree with you. I would My optimism
right now is not they're gonna make a run and
they're gonna win every game from now until Attorney, right.
My optimism is when we're on, we can beat anybody.

Speaker 2 (10:52):
Right. But it's right, it's right and right. So it's
not like the Lucy pulls the football from Charlie Brown
every time, because it doesn't happen every time. You're not
fooled every time. It's just a matter of long term.
You may be fooled every time because you have no
silverware in your cabinet. Now that may change this year.
You have too legitimate chances to win a trophy, you know,

(11:14):
and some people you know sometime, the fans you know,
would take a Cup in a relegation. But that's not
the that's not the case for Brett and listen, like
I think I can't wait actually for the day to
see Actually well I don't want them to win a trophy,
but just to see you. It would be worth it,
just to see you at either the bar or I mean,

(11:37):
as long as you could could go to the local
pub to watch the match, which I'm sure you would
do with you if it was feasible. Uh, but just
if it wasn't just you and I in a radio
studio somewhere, Uh would be very entertaining a watch and
this cameras everywhere, I promise I can verify, so can you.
But putting all the nonsense aside, I mean, I just

(11:58):
think that, uh, you know, their fans are are I
think they're in a weird place right now. I just
think your fan base is just in a weird spot.
It's just it's just you. You believe in the club,
but then your eye test says they're awesome. But then
you see, you know, a game or two this year
where they just don't don't turn up, and it's really weird.
It's just it's just really weird. It's and and it'd

(12:20):
be frustrating for me if I was a tot enough faly,
like where was that two weeks ago? And I'm not
trying to harp on that match because full march to them.
They went to Manchester and they kicked ass. So I'm really, uh,
you know, was really impressed. And we'll see, we'll see
where it goes from here with a Fulham match and
a tough schedule to come as we kind of transition
to my squad.

Speaker 1 (12:40):
Yeah, one last thing on this and I promise will
move on. But I just have to get this off
my chest because I saw I can't remember what punted.
It was something in someone in England basically saying that
I don't understand why Spurs aren't all a gin and
and the fan base is fifty to fifty and these
people who want a chowder you know, blah blah blah,
like why do this first? Fan's not like and let

(13:01):
me tell you, the Internet is not reality. These people
who are just incessantly negative just because after a bad result,
they don't show up when we don't hear a peep
from them when we beat City four because they don't
care because it's not the same They don't get that
same doping rush of his ripping the club like they do.
It's a very loud, vocal minority who just like to rip,

(13:25):
and when something goes right, they're silent and you don't
hear from them. So the I mean ten percent of
fans at most are bitter and ang out at most.
But the Internet is the Internet and that's how that is.
So I'm all an ngin. I always will be oh, okay.

Speaker 2 (13:40):
Your klut I get again. You know, we'll see where
it goes for Tottenham this week with the Italian match
and then London Derby, and we'll see if Brett has
the same smile on his face a week from today.

Speaker 1 (13:54):
I also forgot to mention that Viccario has a fractured
ankle and will probably be out for like twelve weeks.

Speaker 2 (13:58):
Wow, that's not gonna that's not gonna help things. I mean,
if if it was if it was a outfield player,
I would worry more. But I do think that you
as decent as Vicario was, like, he wasn't particularly costing
you or winning you games. I mean, I mean, yes,

(14:18):
I wouldn't. I wasn't saying that he wasn't good, but
I'm just saying, like until I see Foster cost cost
you a game, like that's when I'll say, okay, like
this is a this is a big deal. I will
say this though, with the with the fixtures coming fast
and furious, I couldn't tell you who Tottenham's third keeper is.
That's that's probably a pub trivia question. Yea, Okay, he's

(14:42):
a he's a youth.

Speaker 1 (14:44):
He had a cup of coffee in the MLS, but
he's been in Spurs academy for a while.

Speaker 2 (14:48):
Yeah, okay, So they're obviously going to have to call
up another keeper here with Vicario on the shelf through
the holidays, and we'll see if they can get through it.
But I mean, I mean, you look at the goals
that you know that that taught him scored, and you
know they were doing some really good things in the midfield,
and as you know, that's where the game is won
and losses in the midfield more times than not. Speaking
of minutes, Speaking of midfield, Arsenal with a three nil

(15:11):
victory over Forest.

Speaker 1 (15:13):
The six point game. Technically, if you think about it.

Speaker 2 (15:17):
Wow, wow, there's that. But yeah, I just uh, you know,
there's not there's not a ton to really dive into
here early. I thought it was other than a second
goal at halftime, that was everything I could hope for
in the first half and more. I mean, yeah, I
mean soccer. I mean, with just a fantastic finish. I

(15:38):
mean he gets to his left foot obviously, and andy
An he pumps at home.

Speaker 1 (15:42):
So he walked across the entire box left footed, and
Forrest is like, well, there he goes. I mean he
just and and granted that's because soccer is really fast
and has a ton of pace and it's really good,
but like, that's the one thing you can't let him
do is go to his left foot, and they just
he just waltzed on buying and a rocket in one.
I mean it was an absolute laser.

Speaker 2 (16:00):
Yeah, no, no, no doubt about it. And you know
they close it out with a couple of goals in
the second half and cruise to a three nail victory,
which was much needed. I mean, they hadn't won in
the Premier League in a month with that, with that
international break, they had drawn games against Chelsea, they had
lost games against bournemouths, they had fallen way off the

(16:23):
pace and now they're nine points back. But they're only
one point back a city who have taken a precipitous
free fall, and only three points ahead of your squad
tied with Chelsea right now, who sit in the third
So yeah, so yeah, And just think if you if
you would have h if you would have pulled the
point out of that, out of that one nil victory

(16:47):
that we had earlier this season, where you thought that
you deserve the point, we'd be taught. We'd be tied
right now. And if if the nuts for candy and butts,
we'd all have a merry Christmas.

Speaker 1 (16:56):
Yeah, if wishes were fishes, we'd all be in the ocean.

Speaker 2 (16:59):
That's right. And if my grandmother had okay, so alas,
oh yeah, so.

Speaker 1 (17:07):
Yeah, not much to talk about in this game.

Speaker 2 (17:09):
You won.

Speaker 1 (17:10):
It was pretty decisive, looked like old yeah no.

Speaker 2 (17:14):
But the next three matches and we'll have midweek matches
come the middle of the first week of December. Next
three matches are going to be no picnic. West Ham,
which pulled off a to no when today and look
good doing it. They're another streaky team and that's going
to be no picnic anytime. Arsenal. I believe Arsenal played
west Ham last year and lost if I remember correct,

(17:35):
that would Yeah, that's gonna be no picnic. They have
to go to Portugal. That's going to be no picnic.
And then next Wednesday they host Manchester United, who again
did not show a lot in their one one draw
against Ipswich. But you're gonna think that they're gonna want
to get their first big moment under their manager. And
who better to get it against than the team that

(17:57):
they ran the league with, you know, early last decade. Yeah,
so it just yuah, It's it's gonna be an interesting
ride for them when it comes to managing how to

(18:17):
put in some of these depth players that are just
coming back from injury. For example, Kieran Tierney, who was
playing in Spain, has just come back. He may be
playing one of the wingbacks. Potentially Waneri who scored his
h uh uh, the eighteen year old who scored in
the game against Forrest, he may be playing a role

(18:38):
this week. So their squad, while it's getting a little
bit healthier with the return of Oda Guard, still has
some players out with yeap with with Tomoyasu is out,
but but Partay's back. Jay sus is back. He put
in a really good shift. I know you watch some
of the game over the weekend. He you know, Jasus
really works hard. You know, his finishing product is not great,

(19:00):
but he really he works hard. He puts himself in
good positions and you always see one or two moments
in the game where you're like, wow, that was a
moment of brilliance and they almost scored but they didn't.
And I I feel better about the squad. I know
that there was a lot of kind of bad feelings
coming out of that stretch going into the international break,

(19:22):
but I think now with with with the fixtures to
come fast and furious, especially with uh the the European
fixtures and then the cup fixtures and everything else, I
think their squad is well built to handle it. What
I like a number nine in a in a ideal world, yeah,
I would like another number nine, but but in Katya

(19:43):
wasn't good enough, and they thought that, you know, they
can kind of survive with this with the either Kai
playing up front or Jaysu's playing up front or you know,
and now we'll see if one area's gonna play so
and Martinelli plays, but he plays more and on the wings.
So I don't I don't prefer him in the nine.
So Arte has got a lot of options, and I

(20:06):
was very happy with the performance over the weekend.

Speaker 1 (20:08):
Yeah, I do want to quickly mention Chelsea, speaking of which,
real quick before I break down. Chelsea's a grim reaper
like status to managers. Did you see the text I
sent into the group chat to our Chelsea friend Jesse
Kepa in exchange for a bag of balls, Well, just

(20:29):
for a keeper right now.

Speaker 2 (20:31):
Listen, it's got to be the Family Jewels the most
expensive balls in the world, because Keppa was the most
expensive goalkeeper in the world. So if he's got Lloyd's
of London ensuring his testicles, perhaps he can trade.

Speaker 1 (20:45):
Balls for balls. Here's another idea too that I had
and I don't. I don't this one I'm less excited
about than the potential of getting Keapa, which I'm not
like over the moon about Kepa. This is all just hypothetical.
There's been no rumors or anything. I'm just throwing now.
I'm spitballing here. But Matt Turner is a backup at
Crystal Palace. He's somebody. He's he's somebody who's decent I

(21:09):
don't know, to get for free.

Speaker 2 (21:12):
Yeah, you have to understand something that you just hit
me in both eyes with your bias. Are you blinded me? Yes?
Yes again, I'm actually I'm actually Stevie Wonder actually yes,
just called to say I love you.

Speaker 1 (21:26):
Yeah I can. Yeah. So so what you're saying is, uh,
it's not me you're looking for. Oh that's Lionel Richie. Sorry, yes, yeah.

Speaker 2 (21:40):
Maybe maybe you'll be dancing on the ceiling if you
get a new keeper potentially.

Speaker 1 (21:44):
I mean that's to me, that's number one with a
bullet in January. If it's going to be twelve weeks.

Speaker 2 (21:50):
Well, didn't Maurice just retire from l a FC. Can
you bring him? I don't know, I don't know. I
don't think he's with the MLS anymore. I think he's
he's parading around the world with Yeah, he's probably with
his with his World Cup winning medal.

Speaker 1 (22:05):
Think about it. So anyways, that's just too oft head
and diehard prem watchers. I'm not being serious about Matt Turner.
I'm just no, no, no, But we'll see.

Speaker 2 (22:17):
We'll see this weekend when it comes to Forrester and listen,
I expect them to get a result, if not a
win this week against Fulham. The game is it the
games at home?

Speaker 1 (22:27):
That's that's that's how they want it.

Speaker 2 (22:29):
Yeah, well I just think I just think I have
a good feeling about I think they're going to take
these good feelings. Fulham is definitely vulnerable their bang, they're
banged up, and uh, you know, I think it's a
spicy slate of games this week with Chelsea playing Villa,
Liverpool's yeah, Liverpool playing Manchester City and Arsenal who again

(22:49):
may have a tricky spot at the London Stadium in
the late kickoff on Saturday.

Speaker 1 (22:55):
So so Chelsea they they go to the King Power Stadium.
They went to one. It's not really like a fantastic game.
They did have a lot of possession the XG. They
definitely deserve to win, but it wasn't like, you know,
a dominant victory. But I'll say this, they have a
grim reaper style. How many managers are that? Two managers

(23:16):
this year they've gotten fired, So crazy how that happens.
But this is another week. Obviously they got tested last
week before the international break against against your club, but
now against Villa, that to me is a big ten
bell six point matchup that I am definitely gonna watch
Sunday morning.

Speaker 2 (23:34):
Yeah, no, well, without a doubt, and Villa has been
kind of up and down. Also, they haven't had the
best of records, battered by us. Yeah, especially uh you know,
some interesting games for them this year. They've been up
and down. I just uh, I think that's a draw.
I think that Chelsea Villa game. I smell it a

(23:55):
mile away. What that's I think.

Speaker 1 (23:57):
Low scoring or high scoring?

Speaker 2 (23:59):
I don't know, but uh, I'll go with one one
for now on for now.

Speaker 1 (24:04):
If it's a draw to me, it's it's a two
to two or a three three. That's what I'm smelling.

Speaker 2 (24:09):
But okay, okay.

Speaker 1 (24:10):
We'll see, we'll see. I mean they're both. I mean
Chelsea has been more or less consistent though, in fairness,
and they got to go in the midweek play Heidenheim
somewhere in Germany.

Speaker 2 (24:20):
God bless God, bless you.

Speaker 1 (24:22):
Yeah, thank you, excuse me. So, yeah, it's they've been
more or less consistent, more so than Villa has. But
it's a six pointer and it effects I hope they
draw because that benefits everybody Chelsea.

Speaker 2 (24:36):
The best thing I think we can say about Chelsea
is that they have stabilized things like I don't expect
them to go out there and give up some sort
of ridiculous three or four goal loss like I mean
last year. I mean there were some games when it

(24:56):
was just there were just some efforts where they were
they were getting you know, blown out of the park.

Speaker 1 (25:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (25:01):
I don't see that from this group. Like I see
much more of a measured approach under this manager. I
think that some of the players who didn't particularly hit
the ground running have kind of found their way this year,

(25:21):
with Caesato Enzo a little bit contributing by way of assists.
He scored his you know, first open play goal for
the team last match, So I think that they're they're
definitely moving in the right direction. I was a year
early on them. I projected they'd finished top four last year.
I wasn't sure if they put it all together this year,

(25:42):
but clearly they have and they're they're right in the
mix to finish in the top four.

Speaker 1 (25:46):
Last thing, and then we've hit the Big six trifecta.
Here Liverpool survives a scare at Saint Mary's against Southampton.
I thought they kind of got bailed out, to be honest,
with the penalty. They obviously they had enough possession enough
to win. But I thought I thought they survived. It
was a little bit of a scare to where I'm

(26:08):
not like, man, just another Liverpool win, hohm Like. It
was definitely a full on scare and I thought they
got bailed out a little bit. But you look at
the table. I mean, they're gonna run away with this thing.
If if if we all keep beating up on each other.
And I say we kind of facetiously because that would
include Spurs in that conversation, but let's be honest, if
you and city keep beating up on each other, this

(26:29):
is what's gonna happen, folks. Going away with.

Speaker 2 (26:31):
It, Folks. If you don't take anything else from this
episode of London Club Council, just know that R is
a letter in the alphabet and we is a French
word for yes. Okay, okay, if you ever use those
just copyright Robbie Rosenhouse and can we use them? Yeah,
you could send my check in the mail. Okay, all right, perfect, Okay, No, No.

Speaker 1 (26:50):
Liverpool is gonna run away with this if you're not careful.

Speaker 2 (26:53):
No, this was a fun episode. I'm not even thinking
about Liverpool. What I'm thinking about are the six points
that our two teams picked up over the week. And
see I said our there, yeah, there you go, I
violated it ten seconds after our But Arsenal three points,
Tottenham three points and this week another couple of tricky
matches against teams below them in the table. And we'll

(27:15):
be back next week to wrap it all up and
see if Tottenham potentially can move into the top four.

Speaker 1 (27:23):
Well let's think about it.

Speaker 2 (27:24):
If Chelsea or Arsenal do not, if they do not draw,
if they lose and Tottenham win, they will move above them.
Oh my god, wow, my goodness. Wow. Well there's your
organic murmur to end the podcast and we will see

(27:44):
you all next week from Brett and Robbie. This has
been the London Club Council.
