This is WBZ, Boston's news radio, redefining local news. Son in Cloud
seventy four in Boston. Right now, it's eleven o'clock. Good morning,
I'm Laurie Kirby, and ethics arefront and center today and the Karen Reed

(00:21):
murder trial underway in Debham. Didstay tripper Michael Proctor, the former lead
investigator, handled the case properly. The defense argues, no, he did
not. Reid's attorneys are questioning Proctorabout what he shared about the investigation with
his sister, Courtney Proctor. Importantto remember Courtney is friends with Julie Albert,

(00:46):
another witness in this case. Proctoris under investigation himself over how he
handled the case. WBC's Emma Friedmanis joining us again at eleven point fifteen
with the very latest fighting rages onin Gaza. Hamas responds to the US
back ceasefire and hostage release proposal, calling for some amendments, but saying they

(01:10):
do want peace. This comes amidSecretary of State Blincoln's trip through the Middle
East to drum up support. Here'sCBS is Cammy McCormick. Secretary of State
Anthony Blincoln in Cutters said the HAMASresponse includes numerous changes. Some of the
changes we believe are workable, butsome are not, and he said some
of the Hamas changes go beyond whatthe group has already accepted. Blincoln said

(01:33):
it's time for the haggling to stop. Hamas cannot and will not be allowed
to decide the future for this regionthat's people. Lincoln said the US is
determined to try to bridge the gaps. The UN voted earlier this week to
endorse the Israeli proposal. Israeli forces, which killed nearly three hundred civilians in
a raid over the weekend to rescuefour hostages, have said they will not

(01:55):
suspend the fighting in Gaza during thenegotiations. Cambridge police are investigating a sex
assault in Central Square. Police saythe victim, a woman, told them
she was talking to three people onFranklin Street very late at night and can't
remember what happened next. She wokeup in a parking lot in Central Square
and found she had been assaulted. She was taken to the hospital for treatment.

(02:19):
Some Cambridge residents say they don't feelsafe walking a night in this area
of Franklin Street, With a risingproblem of drugs, crime and homelessness.
Cambridge Police say the victim is anunhoused woman. Additional patrols assigned to the
area now. And the federal governmentcomes out with a better than anticipated inflation
report. ABC's Derek Dennis with thatfor a second straight month, US inflation

(02:45):
eased in May, a signal thatthe federal government's efforts to lower prices for
goods, rant and healthcare are working. Consumer prices rose just zero point two
percent from April to May. Thatwas down point three percent from the previous
month and is the smallest increase sinceOctober. So other economic measures are positive
as well. Unemployment remains low, hiring is robust, and consumers are traveling,

(03:06):
eating out, and spending on entertainment. Derek Dennis, ABC News,
And again we do not anticipate theFed to change the interest rates at the
conclusion of their meeting at two o'clocktoday. And you know who likes that
investors on Wall Street is who willcheck Wall Street next? Really pretty clouds
out there, and we're seeing somesunshine and I'm seeing a little bit of

(03:27):
rain. I mentioned the border withNew Hampshire way up in haverl and Amesbury,
and if I go farther further north, I'm seeing some heavier downpours,
and this is a little west ofPortsmouth, that area, So if you're
driving back and forth between the twoNew England states, just anticipate that.
Otherwise we'll be in the seventies today, not the eighties. Nice overall,

(03:49):
and a chance of some showers onand off, but overall beautiful. Sixty
in Boston tonight, I've been fiftiesInland. Tomorrow another beauty, and if
you like it hotter, tomorrow's yourday with sunshine. Mid eighties. Friday,
we're all running inside thunderstorms with thunderobviously lightning, but also torrential rain,
damaging winds and small hail in thisforecast, and hot and humid,

(04:13):
but I like the forecast for theweekend. Tears of joy and sadness at
graduation ceremonies today in Newtown, Connecticut. The same children who survive the Sandy
Hook Schools shooting in twenty twelve arenow getting their high school diplomas. Wbz's
Drew Mahollan is more. It isstill the deadliest elementary school shooting we have

(04:33):
ever seen. December fourteenth, twentytwelve. Then President Obama wipes tears from
his eyes as he addresses the nation. Have their entire lives ahead of them,
birthdays, graduations, weddings, kidsof their own, and today emotions
are running high. Newtown High Schoolgraduation day. These seniors, they're excited
about heading off to college or whateverelse lies in store for them, but

(04:55):
there is a sadness about leaving thisforever tight Newtown community and where you know
somebody should be there and they're not. I can't really remember many times before
the shooting, so it really forcedus to grow up so fast. You
can imagine the feelings in Newtown today. Many of these kids said they plan
to pursue careers in law or politics. In the years since December fourteenth,

(05:18):
twenty twelve, there have been morethan sixteen hundred school shootings in the United
States. Drew moholland WBZ Boston's newsradio. Nearly three months after the state
Senate unanimously back to bill to criminalizerevenge porn, House lawmakers pick up the
mantle today. A bipartisan team hasbeen working for weeks to tweak the language

(05:41):
and produce this compromise bill that theymaintain is even better. Massachusetts is one
of the last states in the nationto not ban revenge porn, the sharing
of sexual photos or videos without consent. But critics say this legislation as it
stands falls short because victims have toprove that the person who shared the pornography

(06:03):
intended harm. Will learn more aboutthis bill as it comes to the floor
as soon as one o'clock today. You are now in the loop for news
updates throughout the day. Listen toWBZ News Radio on the iHeartRadio app.
