Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is WBZ, Boston's news radio. We defining local news
seventy three degrees in Boston at four o'clock. Good afternoon,
I'm Ben Parker. Here's what's happening. Boston Mayor Michelle Wou's
had words and more with the Trump administration today. She

(00:22):
stopped by the WZ news radio studios to air it out.
Wdz' s Hyle schaffles with more.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
The Trump administration has been targeting Boston since before they
were even sworn into office.

Speaker 3 (00:32):
This time, the mayor's most recent clash came with ICE
director Todd Lyons, who said he'd flood the zone with
agents in Boston after WU refused to budget sanctuary city policies.
But WU says this is just the administration picking another fight.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
It has continued with direct threats to some of the
major institutions in the area and the communities and organizations
that make us who we.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
Are, namely Harvard, which is hemorrhage federal money. Since Trump
took the White House, ICE has poured agents into the
city over the last few months, saying it's for everyone's safety.
Wo Horst disagrees. She thinks the administration just wants to
make an example out of Boston and as.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
The safest major city in America. When we say we're
safe because we're safe for everyone, that is an inconvenient
truth for them.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
Kyle Shaffl WBZ, Boston's news radio.

Speaker 1 (01:15):
A federal judge ruling the Trump administration cannot deport Kilmar
Abrego Garcia or Uganda until that judge could determine whether
he can contest his removal. The Washington Post says the
ruling came down hours after a. Brigo Garcia was taken
back into ice custody today during an immigration appointment. He
was screed from federal custody last week to await trial
on human smuggling charges. The Trump administration has insisted of

(01:38):
Brigo Garcia would never go free in the US. Abrego
Garcia rejected a plea deal it would have deported him
to Costa Rica. While US Special Envoy Keith Kellogg says
officials are working very, very hard to end the war
in Ukraine, President Trump has a new warning for Russia
if it doesn't stop the fighting.

Speaker 4 (01:56):
The President says, if an agreement isn't made in the
next two weeks to stop fighting, at.

Speaker 5 (02:00):
That point, I'll step in very strongly, but.

Speaker 4 (02:03):
He wants Russian President Putin and Ukrainian President Zelenski to
meet first.

Speaker 6 (02:08):
I wanted them to work out their differences first, because
it is ultimately between them.

Speaker 4 (02:12):
He says, this war has to end, and if it doesn't,
it could be very big consequences.

Speaker 1 (02:17):
But we'll see what happens. They might be very big consequences.

Speaker 4 (02:19):
Stacey LINDSAYBS News.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
The White House falling out the pen Today President Trump
signing executive orders, one ordering Attorney General Pam Bondi to
prosecute those who violate existing flag desecration laws. The President
critical of a Supreme Court ruling some three and a
half decades ago that protected flag burning all over the country.
They're burning flags all over the world.

Speaker 5 (02:39):
They burn the American flag, and.

Speaker 6 (02:41):
As you know, through reverse sand Court, I guess it
was a five to four decision. They called it freedom.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
Mistage to The President also taking aim at places that
allow for casualists bail, and an executive order threatens to
withhold federal funding if cities don't end such policies. The
President also wants the Defense Secretary to establish specialized units
in the National Guard that are trained and equipped to
deal with public order issues. We checked the four to
awz actual weather forecast. Now we've been hanging on to

(03:10):
a little bit of shower activity across parts of the
region Central Mass specifically, as we've seen some storms. They
are pushing in the direction of four ninety five now
keeping an eye on them. Not a huge and potent
line of storms, but big enough that if you get
underneath them, you might get a little bit of wind,
a heavy downpour or two as we head through the

(03:31):
rest of the afternoon. So looking at this line, it
is pushed to add to about Clinton east of Leminster
now out along Route two, and it is clapping some
thunder and maybe putting down a little heavier rain in Worcester. Again,
it's all pushing off toward the east four ninety five.
We thought some of it was falling apart, and it was,
but it pulls itself back together as sometimes we do.

(03:53):
We have some clearing skies later tonight, cooler too, as
we have lower humidity. Will be in the upper fifties
in the suburb about sixty two downtown eighty tomorrow with
low humidity and sunshine. Low humidity Wednesday and Thursday, some
cloudsome sun temperatures in the upper seventies. It is seventy
three right now in Boston, just a few days away
from the big move in weekend. In Boston, WBZ Jeremy

(04:15):
Russ spoke with some people on Mission Hill who are
getting an early start in the process.

Speaker 6 (04:19):
Adrian is helping her daughter move out a few days
before the classic August thirty first deadline. She wears a
Crimson Northeastern T shirt. A proud mom who says, this
backbreaking process is actually kind of beautiful, a turning point
in her child's life from college student to full fledged adult.

Speaker 5 (04:35):
So wonderful experience because you know they're moving on in
some way, moving on and up.

Speaker 6 (04:41):
She's here to help her daughter navigate what's usually one
of the most stressful times of the year.

Speaker 5 (04:45):
And you've got to be calm in this world of
chaos that we're having right now. You've got to really
reach within within yourself and know that you are powerful
and that you create your world.

Speaker 6 (04:59):
Her daughter, it is a little more practical with her advice,
don't hire a moving company, do it yourself. Be be
a workhorse. Jeremy Russ WBZ Boston's News Radio.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
Time to get up and head to class. Some already
are now the Janigatu students in Worcester back in school
already today. Kids across the Commonwealth will be following them
in the days to come. And now wz's Nicole Davis

(05:29):
tells us it could be another root awakening when it
comes to phones.

Speaker 7 (05:33):
Well, kids, you might have spent part of your summer
playing Minecraft for hours in the ac or scrolling TikTok
while lounging by the pool. Unfortunately, I hate to tell you,
but that is coming to an end now that school
is coming back. Kids in Worcester Public schools back to
school this week and they've already got a policy in
place requiring them during class to keep their phones on,
silent and out of sight. Now, there has been a

(05:54):
push recently on Beacon Hill to essentially try to ban
phone use from bell to bell. So far that as
not been able to make it to the Governor's desk.
This year around the country, more kids than ever will
be banned from using devices like their phones or smart
watching class. Seventeen states in all so far have some
kind of restrictions in place, hoping to keep kids eyes
on the whiteboard and not their phone. Nicole Davis WBZ
