Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is WBZ in Boston's news radio, redefining local news
fifty four degrees in Boston at four o'clock. Good afternoon,
I'm Ben Parker. Here's what's happening. To call it a
SNAP decision or call it a lifeline for SNAP. The

(00:21):
Trump administration says SNAP will be partially funded after a
judges ruling required food aid programs to continue. The government
held the view that it couldn't do so during the shutdown.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
Filing in Rhode Island federal court, the Trump administration said
snap's contingency fund only has about four and a half
billion dollars left, enough to cover roughly half of November's need.
The USDA says it will begin advising states of the
reduced payouts, but an agency official warrant that adjusting state
systems to account for that could take weeks, if not
several months.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
Out of ABC, Stephen Portnoy, It's day thirty four of
the federal government shutdown, and no plans today for the
Senate to vote on a funding measure to end it.
Another of the many side effects of the shutdowns been
air travel woes. Efforts to keep things going smoothly has
been tough.

Speaker 3 (01:07):
Air traffic controllers and airport security officers have been declared
essential personnel in order to keep working with or without
a paycheck, but some TSA agents have been calling in sick,
creating massive lines and security checkpoints. Passengers flying out of
Houston's Bush inter Continental Airport Sunday waited more than three
hours in lines that extended through the terminal, out the door,

(01:28):
and down the sidewalk. Jim Ryan abcniors.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
Hey Canton police sergeants has been placed unpaid administrative leave
following allegations of misconducts. The town and the police department
have now identified the officer as Sean Good, who is
now the subject of an internal affairs investigation. The town
says Good was placed on leave Friday, but hasn't released
more details on the allegations. Good was one of the
many officers who testified during the Karen Reid trial. It's

(01:52):
unclear if the misconduct is connected to that case. Stay
out of Oregon. That's what a federal judge continues to
tell the Trump administration when it came comes to sending
National Guard troops into Portland.

Speaker 4 (02:03):
The new preliminary injunction prohibits the deployment of troops into
Portland through at least Friday. It follows a three day
trial from last week, with US District Judge Karen Immerget
writing that no credible evidence was revealed in testimony that
protests in the city grew out of control. She adds
that the Trump administration likely infringed on the state sovereignty

(02:24):
of Oregon. It comes after the same judge blocked National
Guard troops from Oregon, then California, and Texas from deploying
to the city. Mike Debuski ABC News for now Senator
at Marque's job seems to be safe. A UMAs Amherst
poll shows Marky with a nineteen point lead over challenger
Congressman Seth Moulton. These numbers change up, though, if the

(02:45):
dynamics of the race change. If Congresswoman Honor Presley were
to join the race, for example, Markey's lead over Molten
drops to seven. In that matchup, Marky would have thirty
one percent support, Moulten twenty four, Pressley twenty There is
about a six percent margin of error in this pole,
and with the pole tossing around other possible added candidates,

(03:05):
including people like Representative Joe Marky and Boston Mayor Michelle
Woo MARKI would still hold a lead the poll conducted
by you goov of some eight hundred adults from Massachusetts,
about half of whom are likely Democratic primary voters. Might
want to test out that umbrella as you're heading out
this evening. We have some showers already. They're mainly confined
to the south shore, south coast, Cape and islands, and

(03:29):
mostly the Cape and islands. Really, there's a few scattered
sprinkles in a few places as you head inland, and
then there's another party behind it that is out in
New York State and it is heading in our direction.
So a few showers moving through now and maybe a
little bit later on as well, although this will not
be anything major, but enough to perhaps have rain drops
falling on your head. Tonight forty five for the low,

(03:51):
with clearing skies eventually late tonight and then blustery cool tomorrow,
some sunshine fifty eight Wednesday, clouds and sun windy temperatures
near sixty'll make it feel like it's in the fifties,
and we'll have a few showers around Wednesday night to
go with the wind, partly to mostly sunny on Thursday,
still windy temperatures in the low fifties right now fifty
four degrees in Boston. This Fourth of July is going

(04:13):
to be bigger than ever. Governor Moorehey and others announcing
plan to celebrate two hundred and fifty years of America.

Speaker 5 (04:19):
Governor Heally says it's going to be one blockbuster of
an event next Fourth of July on the Esplanade with
celebrations and a firework show for the ages.

Speaker 6 (04:26):
And we are going to pack the Esplanade and up
and down Steroi Drive and every bridge and every vantage
point from this great city.

Speaker 5 (04:34):
The state is giving Boston Symphony Orchestra two and a
half million dollars to produce a centerpiece for the a
two to fifty celebration. And this year they're going all out.

Speaker 6 (04:42):
And it is going to be animated by this centerpiece
showcase celebration televised all over. That will be the Boston
Pops July fourth Spectacular Celebration. It's all Can you not
clap for that?

Speaker 5 (04:59):
Guys? Is honestly at Old South Meetinghouse. Emma Freedman WBZ,
Boston's news.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
Radio, Yeah, come on, what are you waiting for? Clap
for the first time in five years, a Coca Cola
Holiday flavors hitting the stores. The soda company calls Coca
Cola Holiday Creamy Vanilla a festive twist on the classic
taste that delivers comfort, refreshment, and seasonal joy. The flavors
described as a delicious taste of Coca Cola infused with smooth,
creamy vanilla flavors. It'll be available both in regular and

(05:27):
zero sugar versions. All right, here comes the flavored coke.
Here comes Thanksgiving and Christmas together at the same time.
Well not really.

Speaker 7 (05:37):
Weymouth proudly celebrates its Thanksgiving tradition with a world class
parade every year. But that's also not slowing down people
from putting up holiday decorations before we sit down for
a Turkey dinner a few weeks from now.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
No, it's never too earl, and it's almost kind of
like bypassing Thanksgiving.

Speaker 7 (05:52):
I always believe that decorations should be put up after Thanksgiving,
asking people if it's too early for Christmas decor The
younger the people I to, the more open they are
for an early entrance into the holiday spirit.

Speaker 5 (06:04):
People's are only in March, So now.

Speaker 7 (06:05):
We're talking a little crazy. But here in America's hometown.
There are still those who want to bask in that
Thanksgiving glory before we jingle all the way into December.

Speaker 2 (06:15):
Thanksgiving and the feelings about it and going right to.

Speaker 1 (06:18):
Christmas in Plymouth.

Speaker 7 (06:19):
