This is Best Boston's news radio, redefining local news.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Four o'clock right now in Boston. It is sunny, it's
very humid out there, and it's seventy six degrees. Good afternoon.
I'm Nicole Davis. Happy Saturday to you. Here is what's
happening at four o'clock. Free Dropkick Murphy's concert getting into
way right now in Quincy Center on the Hancock Adams Common.
This show is celebrating the release of the band's thirteenth
(00:29):
studio album, For the People. It's a part of Quincy's
four hundredth anniversary festivities. It's a generational affair for many
people who shut up. It's a great community.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
And now I've been a fan since probably not quite
the beginning of Pretty Close, and now it's.
Speaker 4 (00:43):
Cool to take.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
My kids are coming to the show.
Speaker 5 (00:47):
So it's been like a it's the community that grows
with the full circle.
Speaker 4 (00:51):
It's been awesome.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
It is not too late if you want to go
and see the Dropkicks on stage while the show just
get under got underway. Opening Act DJs study is on
until about five o'clock, so that is when the Dropkicks
come on. They're expected to play for about two hours
over there in Quincy Center. Officials say public transportation is
the best way to get there. The late former Boston
(01:12):
Mayor Tomanino was honored today in South Boston at a
renaming ceremony at the Convention Center. Here's Doybz's Carl Stevens.
Speaker 6 (01:19):
Family members, plenty of friends, and lots of politicians past
and present gathered here for this dedication ceremony, the official
Christenine of what is now the Thomas M. Menino Convention
and Exhibition Center. Former Mayor Marty Walsh was one of
many in attendance who saw this as a fitting tribute.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
You know, Tominino meant so much of the city. Certainly,
it was very instrumental in this building that we're in today,
instrumental in the beginning of the South Wasston Waterfront developments.
So it's fitting, it's a fitting tribute to the former American.
Speaker 6 (01:51):
Many speakers, including Mayor Woo and Lieutenant Governor Driscoll, pointed
out that it was the vision of Mayor Menino that
resulted not only in the creation of this building, but
the development of the entire Seaport district. From the Thomas M.
Menino Convention and Exhibition Center. Carl Stevens WBC Boston's News
Radio at.
Speaker 2 (02:08):
Four two bad news if you hope to go take
a dip in the Charles this weekend. Here's something to
bz's Jared Broson.
Speaker 4 (02:13):
After first rescheduling City Splash for Sunday, the Charles River
Conservancy says it's a no go, canceling the event until
next year. They say it's due to the heavy rainfall
earlier this week, which elevated bacteria accounts past the point
of what's safe for swimming. Organizers say their top priority
is swimmer health and safety, adding that the four hundred
registered swimmers show the need and desire to make more
swimming spaces available. Jared Brosn and WBZ, Boston's news radio.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
And President Trump is rolling out another round of tariffs
for two of the nation's biggest trading partners.
Speaker 1 (02:40):
On Saturday, President Trump announced the thirty percent tariff on
imports from Mexico and the European Union. Mister Trump accused
Mexico of not doing enough to stop cartels. In a
letter to the nation's president and in notice to the
European Commission, Mister Trump said the trade relationship with the
EU zone was far from balance tree deficits. The news
(03:02):
follows dozens of letters the President sent to over twenty
nations this week warning of increased tariffs. By August first.
Willie james Enman CBS News Bridgewater, New Jersey.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
Mexico's government calling the latest round of tariffs quote unfair treatment.
EU Commissioned President Ursula vonder Lane says the block could
adopt quote proportionate countermeasures if President Trump goes through with
those tariffs. Okay, when it comes to the forecast, we
are in better shape. When it comes to that earlier
flash flood warning and western Mass we've been talking about
that has been discontinued, so that is good news. There
(03:35):
is still some rain in that part of the state.
So if you are heading west, maybe listening on the
iHeartRadio app right now on Route two or the mass
Pike getting over toward the I ninety one corridor, just
be sure to keep that in mind. Now. Later on
this afternoon, we will continue to have great weather here
in eastern and central Mass. If you're at the Fenway
in the Fenway Park area for the Red Sox game
out on the beach, you should be in great shape.
(03:57):
Although it's very humid, so keep that in mind. We
have some patchy fog and alone near sixty five for tomorrow,
more like today with a mix of sunning clouds and
very humid conditions. Hener eighty in Boston, eighty five Inland,
mostly cloudy and humid Tomorrow night alone near seventy right
now Hampton Beach, where it's sixty nine degrees west of Boston,
(04:18):
eighty five in Milford, seventy nine at the Cape Cod Canal,
and in Boston at four oh six partly cloudy and
seventy five. Inspectors in Cambridge say the river View condo
complex on Mount Auburn Street is at risk of collapse,
so they're taking some major safety precautions.
Speaker 5 (04:34):
Very next week, Mount Auburn and Spark streets around the
building will be closed until the building is demolished, and
two bus routes will be rerouted, leaving a lot of
questions just how.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
Long it's going to take, and yeah, what the people
around here should expect.
Speaker 5 (04:49):
Neighbors should expect the closure to last months, according to
the city, I think.
Speaker 2 (04:54):
That's going to be pretty rough. That's going to be
in the hospitals, like.
Speaker 7 (04:57):
Right around the corner the nice story building was crime
real estate overlooking the Charles River since the nineteen sixties,
many residents hoped they could one day return well, the
city says the condo association concluded that fixing the building
isn't feasible and it will need to be taken down
as soon as possible and.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
Then as CBS News Boston's Tammy Mutasa and Charlton, an
eleven year old has died after crashing their e bike
into a tree, as happened on Thursday afternoon on Jennings Drive.
First responders requesting a medical helicopter to fly the child
to UMass Memorial. Bad weather, though, kept the copter grounded.
Paramedics got the child to the hospital by ambulance, where
the child was pronounced dead. And at least one one
(05:40):
hundred and twenty people are now confirmed dead in Central
Texas killed in those devastating flash floods over the fourth
of July. We are learning more this weekend about safety
measures in place leading up to the deadly incident at
Camp Mystic. The AP is reporting that FEMA repeatedly granted
appeals to remove the camp's buildings from their one hundred
year flood map. Is despite the camp operating and expanding
(06:03):
in a dangerous floodplain as means the camp was not
required to have flood insurance and did not facetighter regulation
on future projects. You are now in Malu. For news
updates throughout the day, and listen to WBZ News Radio
on the iHeartRadio app. I'm Nicole Davis, WZ, Boston's news
