Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is WBZY, Boston's news radio, redefining local news seventy
seven degrees in Boston at four o'clock. Good afternoon, I'm
Ben Parker. Here's what's happening. Investigators are searching the home
of a suspect in a deadly shooting in Shrewsbury this morning.

(00:21):
Please say. A man was walking on Jordan Pond Bridge
after he dropped his child off at school. He spotted
another man spray painting on that bridge. The man snapped
the photo of the spray painter that started an argument.
The father called nine to one one when police say
the spray painter shot him. The victim died at a
nearby hospital. The shooter ran off, leading to a manhunt

(00:41):
and a shelter in place. Officers say the suspect eventually surrendered.
Boston Mayor Michelle Wu says the school bus driver who
struck and killed a Hyde Park kindergartner in April should
not have been behind the wheel. CBS News Boston's Christina
Rex tells us an outside review found problems with the
bus company.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
The independent report, released today reveal is that TRANSDV failed
to keep proper records of bus accidents and driver credentials
and training. It also recommended that Boston Public Schools administrators
do more follow through to get those records. Here's what
Mayor Wu said about the findings.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
However, our own review and our understanding of the facts
as they have emerged, make it clear that the driver
involved on April twenty eighth should not have been on
the road that day, and we know this is important
to the Joseph family. The safety of all twenty thousand
of our bus riders in the Boston Public Schools is
first and foremost.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
We did get a statement from that company, Transdev, the
company saying it's committed to working with the city to
implement the safety changes recommended by this report, saying it
plans to prove that commitment this school year.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
Lens Joseph's family has sued transdebbed the bus driver as well,
who is driving that day. The suffol DA still has
an ongoing criminal investigation into the matter. No charges so
far have been filed. CDC Director Susan monterest is sent
backing down she had after the White House announced their firing.

Speaker 4 (02:02):
Lawyers for CDC Director Susan Manara say that she still
hasn't heard directly from President Trump that she's fired, and
she hasn't had any further communications with the White House
since last night, when a White House staffer notified her
of her termination. Minaras his lawyers rejected that as quote
legally deficient, but White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt said Thursday.

Speaker 3 (02:20):
The President fired her, which he has every right to do.

Speaker 4 (02:22):
Levitt reiterated the White House point that Manaras was not
aligned with the President's mission to make America healthy again.
Karen Travers's ABC News the White House.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
Following a deadly shooting in Minneapolis yesterday that killed two
young children and injured seventeen others, the mayor of the
city is calling for more gun control.

Speaker 1 (02:43):
That's a problem.

Speaker 6 (02:44):
Mayor Jacob Pry told CBS Mornings red flag laws don't
go far enough, and assault weapons need to be banned.

Speaker 5 (02:53):
Why is it necessary that you should be able to
buy not just one gun, but like a gun every
single month.

Speaker 6 (02:59):
Price as the country, he needs the courage and conviction
to act.

Speaker 5 (03:02):
We need to recognize that we love our children more
than we love our guns.

Speaker 6 (03:07):

the last couple of nights have been. Clouds, limited sun Tomorrow,

(03:52):

the day progresses. Some of those storms may file are
off a few gusty winds and small hail As we
head through the afternoon and evening tomorrow temperatures in the
low seventies. Then it gets much better as the holiday

on Sunday with highs in the upper seventies. And then
for the Labor Day holiday, looks like some sunshine mid
seventies for most of us. And if you took a
long weekend and are going to stay out next week,
