This is WBZ, Boston's news radio, redefining local news seventy
nine degrees in Boston at four o'clock. Good afternoon, I'm
Ben Parker. Here's what's happening. The jury has done their
work for the day at Norfolk Superior Court. One central
figure in the Karen Reid case took the stand today.

(00:23):
Jennifer McCabe tell her the jury she went out drinking
with Reid and Boston Police officer John O'Keeffe the night
before he died. Early the next morning, She says she
got a call from O'Keefe's niece and Reid was screaming
in the background.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
Entire time I was speaking to Kaylee, she was.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
Screaming, describe her demeanor.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
Miss Reid's yes, Jan Jan, and then she's screaming that
John didn't come home. She left him at the waterfall.
She was hysterical. I was very hard to follow what.

She was saying. McCabe then went out looking for O'Keeffe
with Read. Later, they found him in the snow outside
of the Canton home. Read is charged with hitting o'keep
with their suv, then leaving him for dead. She has
long maintained her innocence, claimed to be a victim of
a police cover up. Mcabile continued testimony in the morning.
Right now in court without the jury present. They are
discussing two ARCA crash reconstruction experts, putting on hold the

A federal appeals court has paused a judge's order to

Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Monday that a three judge

Trump's marking the occasion in Michigan. This evening, the President
will hold a rally, his largest public event since returning
to the White House. The White House, meantime, doing some

In a morning press briefing, White House Press Secretary Caroline
Lovitt focused on the economy and says prices have gone
down for the first time in years.

From airfare to use motor vehicles to prescription drugs, prices
are dropping.

She says the president has also restored America's energy dominance.

Oil and gas prices are now way down.

At a time when distracted driving remains a big problem,
there could be a somewhat simple solution. New research from
the Triple A Foundation for Traffic Safety finds smartphone do
not Disturb features can be effective in reducing smartphone interactions
when driving. When it's activated, the decrease in interaction was
forty one percent. However, despite the potential for reducing distraction,

smartphone technology based countermeasures like the do not Disturb feature
are not widely used by drivers, and among the reasons,
the study finds that there are some major misconceptions about
how the technology works. Drivers citing limited access to music
navigation as reasons they didn't activate the do not disturb feature. However,
current smartphone blocking features allow music and navigation to be

used when activated. Other barriers mentioned by drivers in this
study included not realizing that the features were available, or
just forgetting to turn them on. We've got partly the
mostly cloudy skies coming into night. We may pick up
a shower or two. We'll stay on the milder side
of about sixty or within a couple degrees of sixty
for the low tonight, and most of those showers north

and west of the city as we head into the evening.
Turning out mostly sunny again tomorrow, but not warm like day,
warm like seventy degrees or so, which isn't bad either.
Mainly clear and cooler tomorrow night forty five in the city,

clouds and sun on Thursday. It'll be breezy temperatures though
only about sixty in the city, fifties over the capean Islands.

even upper sixties, and then some rain gets in here
Thursday night, continuing with us on Friday, with a chance
of a thunderstorm War two. Right now it is seventy
nine degrees in Boston. The Celtics look to dispatch the
Orlando Magic tonight Game five at the Garden, and a
win by Boston sends them to the second round of
the NBA Playoffs. The Celtics are getting ready, and so

This morning, Terse is wearing her Kevin Garnett throwback on
her way to work, but when it's quitting time later
on at the job, she's returning back to North Station

This well rounded club has got fans very confident, and
I think they do once the playoffs settle in, you
start to hear all the great stories of fans from

Going to look like the Celtics were getting close to
a clinching opportunity. Tom and his wife from Brunswick, Maine,
made the last second trip down hoping to watch the
Celtics wrap up this series tonight.

Boston's gonna be crazy, so I know it's gonna be
a good time.

Game five against the Magic tip off at eight thirty

News radio, a famous name with a controversial history, is
now on a building in Roxbury. Details from wz's Mike Maclin.

It's an urban sports complex that is a hole away
from home for young people in Roxbury. But the base
was in jeopardy of losing that home when the building
went up for sale. Now the nonprofit owns the building
thanks to a one point five million dollar grant from
the Yackey Foundation. John Harrington is chairman of the Foundation.

experienced one of Euro's most severe blackouts yesterday. That cause
is still under investigation. Authorities are also investigating five deaths
that may be related to the blackout. The Madrid Open
tennis tournament has now resumed, along with public transport after
many travelers had been stranded when the lights went out.
