Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is WBZ, Boston's news radio, redefining local news.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
It is seventy four degrees and Sonny here in Boston
at four o'clock. Good evening, I'm Kyle, or good afternoon,
I'm Kyle Bray. Thank you for joining us. And here's
what's happening. President Trump says he's moving US Space Command
from Colorado to Huntsville, Alabama. President says this move is
another step towards his proposed missile defense system.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
In Huntsville Space com we'll play a key role in
building the Golden Dome. As you know, that's going to
be a big thing. Everybody wants to be a participant
in it. Missile defense shield. We're going to be having
a golden Dome that the likes of which nobody's ever
seen before.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
The President says a big factor in the move was
Colorado's use of mail in voting. He says the system
leads to automatically crooked elections. Space Command overseas, military space operations,
and the defensive satellites. The Colorado Attorney General says he's
challenging mister Trump's decision in court. The President has also
announced today that he's ordering federal intervention in Chicago and Baltimore.

(01:12):
While he didn't give a timeline, he says national Guard
troops aren't coming.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
Well, we're going in. I didn't say when we're going in.
When you lose, look, I have an obligation.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
This isn't a political thing.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
I have an obligation.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
Local officials in both cities have said they oppose a
federal takeover, though President Trump says he'd like Illinois Governor JB.
Pritzker to call him and ask him to send in
the troops. The President has already deployed National Guard troops
in DC, along with federalizing these cities police force. State
officials have confirmed the first human case of West Isle

(01:45):
virus this season. The Department of Public Health says a
woman in her seventies was exposed in Middlesex County. Public
Health Commissioner Robbie Goldstein says residents should take extra precautions
to prevent mosquito bites, including using bug spray, wearing long
sleeves and pants, and staying inside from dusk to dawn.
There have been eighteen triple E positive mosquito samples this year,

(02:06):
but no human or animal cases so far. Today, a
judge ruled that the former chair of the States Cannabis
Control Commission was wrongfully fired WBZ Sherry Small explains.

Speaker 3 (02:18):
Suffolk Superior Court Judge Robert Gordon says Shannon O'Brien is
entitled to get her job back as commissioned chair and
with back pay. State Treasurer Deborah Goldberg fired O'Brien last September,
accusing her of bullying colleagues and making racially insensitive remarks.
But the law only allows the CCC chair to be
removed for very limited reasons. The judge found Goldberg didn't

(02:39):
prove that O'Brien committed gross misconduct or was unable to
do her job, writing that on any fair reading of
the facts, the decision fails on both counts. He added
the law requires more than showing O'Brien was abrasive or difficult,
as Goldberg had claimed. Sherry Small WBZ Boston's news radio.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
It's going to be partly cloudy for the rest of
the day. We'll have a low of around fifty seven
in Boston. We'll have a that will be in the
upper forties for some of the inland suburbs. Tomorrow it
will be sunny to part league cloudy, will have a
high around seventy four, nearing eighty again. If you're inland.
We'll have some patchy clouds Tomorrow night on a low
fifty eight downtown. That'll near fifty in most of the

(03:20):
inland suburbs. Thursday, we'll have more sun than clouds. It
should be breezy around in the afternoon and a high
close to eighty. Friday, we'll have a mix of sun
and clouds. It will be breezy again and also rather humid,
with a chance of a shower or two around that day.
We'll have a high around eighty three degrees. Right now
in Boston, it's sunny with some clouds and seventy four degrees.

Time now is four oh five. A quiet, much love
spot in Brighton gets a revamp. Wbz's Hyle Schaffel has more.

Speaker 4 (03:50):
Chandler Pond is a little green oasis in Brighton, a
special place in many hearts around here.

Speaker 5 (03:54):
This park is so well loved in this community. You
ask people around here. A lot of people learn to
skate here, a lot of people learn to ride bikes here.

Speaker 4 (04:03):
Now the city in the neighborhood has taken one step
on the long road to improving it. Candice Downling, president
of Friends of Chandler Pond, says, up until a few
years ago, the pond had become choked with invasive species.

Speaker 5 (04:13):
And they were starting to crowd out a lot of
the native plants and making it hard to even see
the pond.

Speaker 4 (04:18):
Phase one of the city's facelift efforts here is complete,
with the invasives replaced by native black eyed Susans and trees.
Defenses next to the water line will remain for a
couple of years as the plants grow in. May Or
Michelle Wou was there and chimed in reversing one of
her favorite lines.

Speaker 5 (04:31):
We're making Boston at home for everyone except for rats,
and except for not.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
Weak Hi traffic to be busy Boston's news radio. For
many people, summer ended this past weekend, but for locals
on Cape Cod the party is just getting started.

Speaker 6 (04:45):
I've never been able to just drive over the Bourne
Bridge without traffic, certainly something people on Cape are not
used to. That morning drive, while busy in some spots,
is now seeing less and less out of state plates,
and it's breathing a bit easier.

Speaker 2 (04:58):
Or get in here alone.

Speaker 6 (05:00):
So's it's crazy for many It's now second summer, a
few more weeks of warm weather, and many seasonal visitors
are gone for the year. I still happen to run
into a few stragglers at the Cape Cod Visitors Center.

Speaker 3 (05:10):
It's hard to make a decision whether we really wanted
to leave or not.

Speaker 6 (05:13):
John and his family were supposed to leave yesterday. They
were thinking of even staying an extra few days, but
they're now heading back home to upstate New York.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
We wanted to get out and just be as safe
as we can.

Speaker 6 (05:23):
Tourism on Cape Cod is everything during the summer, but
when that summer begins to come to a close, there's
certainly some big relief from the Cape Cod Canal. Jim
