Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is WBZ, Boston's news radio, redefining local news, sixty
eight degrees and mostly Sonny with some clouds in Boston
at eleven o'clock. Good morning. Thank you for joining us.
I'm Kyle Bray. Here's what's happening. No bail for the

(00:24):
suspect and a deadly shooting in Shrewsbury yesterday. Police saying
they got a nine to one to one call yesterday
morning from a father who had just dropped his kid
off at school. Told police he was arguing with someone
he photographed spray painting near Jordan Pond. During the call,
the dispatcher heard several gun shots. The victim later died
of his injuries at a nearby hospital. The suspects pleaded
not guilty and was ordered held at their arraignment this morning. Meanwhile,

(00:47):
there's turmoil at the CDC. Top officials at the agency
have resigned after the White House fired Director Susan Manarez
for not aligning with the President Trump's agenda. ABC Stephen
Portnoy has more.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
On Monday of this week, Susan Manarz was called into
the office for a three way meeting between herself, Robert F. Kennedy,
junior and his principal deputy chief of staff, a woman
named Stephanie Spear. Now, according to our sources, Kennedy and
Spear asked that doctor Manares fire senior staffers at the
CDC and commit to changes in vaccine policy. Manarrez would

(01:25):
have had to sign off on those changes as the
director of CDC, and she was not willing to commit
to doing that.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
Manars' lawyer says she has not been officially fired because
as a Senate confirmed and pointee, only President Trump himself
can't remove her. Meantime, dozens of staffers staged a walkout
yesterday to support the staff members who resigned. The Republic
Trash strinth is leading to more legal action. Temporary trash
collectors who are filling in for striking workers are now

(01:51):
suing the company. They claim Republic Services did not pay
them for the first ninety minutes of each workday. WBZ
News Radio has reached out to Republic for comment. Meantime,
there seems to be no end in sight for the strike.

Speaker 3 (02:04):
Talks zoom between trash aller, Republic Services and some four
hundred striking members from the Teamsters Union. A spokesperson for
Republic Services says they've put forth what they're calling a
strong offer that the union rejected, adding quote the Teamsters
approach to negotiations led to no substantive progress. A union
spokesperson says they have no updates to share after yesterday's negotiations.
This is now week nine of the strikes impacting more

(02:26):
than a dozen cities and towns in Greater Boston. Workers
are demanding better pay and better benefits. Jared Brosnan w
b Z, Boston's news radio.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
President Trump has provoked Secret Service protection for Vice President
Kamala Harris, former VPS Typical League and federal protection for
six months after leaving office, but reports say former President
Joe Biden quietly signed a directive that extended protection for
Harris beyond the six months. This move comes as the
former Democratic presidential nominee gets ready to go in a
book tour to promote her new memoir. It's time now

(02:55):

As Kevin was saying, we're seeing a lot of heavy
rains south of Boston, along the South Shore area and
towards the South coast. If you're in the seaconk and
Rehobeth area. You've been seeing it for a little bit now.
It's also spreading through Taunton and Attleborough. Parts of Whitman
and Brockton are seeing it as well, and also on

the coastal areas near Weymouth and Hangham seeing some heavy rain.
There will be a chance of that throughout the day

and some small hands. To keep that in mind if
you're driving anywhere for Labor Day, we'll have a hive
around seventy three four today. Tonight will be coming partly
cloudy with a low fifty seven in Boston. I will

(03:37):
get closer to fifty for those inland suburbs, and then
as we head into the holiday weekend, I'm gonna see
sun throughout pretty much the whole weekend. Tomorrow will be
sunning with a few clowns a hive around seventy five.
Sunday more of the same, but less clowns high seventy
three Labor Day, those clowns will come back, but still
have plenty of sun and hive around seventy four. As
we look ahead for the rest of the week, it

(03:57):
will be dry as we headed a Tuesday sun much
of the time, and we have some heins throughout the
seventies for the rest of the week. Right now in Boston,
it is mostly sunny with some clowns and sixty eight
degrees time. Now eleven six, Taylor and Travis have gone
public for the first time since the NFL star put

in Kansas City, where she and her new fiance Travis
Kelcey made their first public appearance as an engaged couple.
