Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is w b Z, Boston's news radio, redefining local.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
News seventy six degrees in Boston. It's eleven o'clock. Good morning.
I'm Nicole Davis. Here's what's happening. President Trump is floating
the idea of punishing broadcasters whom he says are overly
negative towards him. This comes after ABC suspended Jimmy Kimmel's
late night show is over comments he made about responses

(00:28):
to the Charlie Kirk assassination ABC's Elizabeth Sholsey.

Speaker 3 (00:32):
President Trump, on his return from the state visit in
the UK, now suggesting the FCC should take licenses away
from broadcasters that are repeatedly critical of him.

Speaker 4 (00:42):
They give me Holy bandwooplicity pro Press. I think they're
getting a license. I would think maybe their license should
be taken away. It will be up to Brendan.

Speaker 3 (00:54):
Carr, a move that would be at odds with an
executive order the President signed on day one in office
pledging to protect free speech.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
This is not the first time the President has suggested
using his power to go after critics. Here's ABC's Jonathan Carl.

Speaker 5 (01:07):
The week started out with him suing the New York
Times and telling me directly that his Attorney general might
go after reporters if he doesn't like what we have reported.
Donald Trump has made it perfectly clear that he would
like to use the power of the federal government to
silence his critics.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
CBS's Jennifer Kuiper has more reaction over the suspension of
Jimmy Kimmel.

Speaker 6 (01:30):
David Letterman, during a sit down with Jeffrey Goldberg at
the Atlantic Festival, didn't hold back when the topic of
the Jimmy Kimmel Live Show being preempted indefinitely by Disney's
ABC came up.

Speaker 7 (01:41):
And silly, it's ridiculous, and you can't go around firing
somebody because you're fearful or trying to suck up to
an authoritarian and criminal administration in the Oval Office. That's
just not how this works.

Speaker 6 (01:57):
Letterman calls it managed media.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
Fellow hosts Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, Seth Myers also reacting
on their shows. Last night. John Stewart, who normally hosts
Mondays on The Daily Show, made a special appearance making
the episode quote administration compliant other news. At eleven o two,
we head over to Washington, where the House has just
passed a short term spending bill. This would keep the

(02:19):
government open for seven weeks and avoid a shutdown October first.
It does still have to get through the Senate, and
ABC Stephen Portnoy reports the prospect is dimmer there.

Speaker 8 (02:29):
The GOP plan extends government funding through November twenty first,
and it includes close to ninety million dollars to boost
security for federal officials, but some Republicans say the measure
doesn't include enough money to protect lawmakers in the wake
of Charlie Kirk's assassination. Democrats say the bill should contain
an extension of expiring tax credits that have made Obamacare
plans more affordable. The Senate will take up both parties proposals,

(02:52):
but neither is expected to cross the critical sixty vote threshold.
Stephen port Noy, ABC News Washington.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
Okay, for the rest of the after noon, it is
going to stay dry and we will have a warm breeze.
It is a little more humid out there, but we
really don't have any rain in the forecast, so that
means there is a heightened fire risk, especially away from
the coast. We have a high just about eighty today
and then tonight getting down to fifty five on the coast,
mid forties if you're inland under mostly clear skies. Then

(03:20):
the weekend looking really quite nice, not as humid Tomorrow,
high in the mid sixties, sun and clouds on Sunday
with a high in the upper sixties, and then on
Monday looking phenomenal as well. You want to take a
long weekend as we make our way through the last
weekend of the summer. We have a high in the
low to mid seventies on Monday. Next chance for rain
looks to be maybe Tuesday night. Temperatures right now seeing

(03:43):
seventy five in Lemonster, seventy four in Ipswich, seventy five
in Brockton. In Boston right now at eleven oh five,
partly cloudy, and seventy six, a possible rate hike forever
Source gas customers could be coming this winter. Here's wbz's
Jim McKay.

Speaker 8 (03:58):
I think that's outrageous.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
He ceases too amazingly.

Speaker 9 (04:01):
That's the type of reaction you can expect when talking
to natural gas customers on the South Shore about the
potential thirteen percent rate hike that's being proposed right now
by ever Source. While it still needs approval from the
Department of Public Utilities. It could be going into effect
on November first.

Speaker 8 (04:17):
Everything right now is very, very expensive, so it would
really be a burden for us.

Speaker 9 (04:22):
And of course everything revolves around just how cold this
winter may be. But between persistent inflation gas prices and
higher delivery costs, it's a good bet you can expect
a higher energy build this winter.

Speaker 1 (04:33):
He's feeling it.

Speaker 9 (04:34):
We've got inflation nationwide when it comes to national grid.
They are asking the DPU for a natural gas price
hike of just under four percent. In Plymouth, Jimmy AWBZ
Boston's news radio.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
Hearing is underway right now and Denham Superior Court over
a pair of statues. The City of Quinsy is going
up against civil liberties groups over two proposed statues of
Catholic Saints. Now, this is not the final hearing in
this case, but this year will determine if Quinsy can
move forward with installing the statues outside the new Public
Safety building as the case plays out in the court system.

(05:07):
The groups suit the city and Mayor Thomas Coke back
in May. In that suit, they say the ten foot
tall bronze statues of Saints Michael and Florian illegally show
favor to one religion over the others. Mayor says the
eight hundred and fifty thousand dollars statues are not about religion,
but good versus evil, and both of the saints have
meaning to first responders. The nation's highest court is now

(05:30):
said to hear arguments in November on the legality of
President Trump's tariffs. Here's Mark Mayfield.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
The focus will be on Trump using a law meant
four times of emergency to impose the duties without the
help of Congress. The High Court schedule oral arguments for
November fifth, after a degree to fast track the case.
Two different cases have been taken on by the Supreme Court.
They cover most of the tariffs, including one file by
the Trump administration in response to an appeals court ruling
late last month that said he went above his authority.

(05:57):
The other cases had challenge made by two companies. The
tariffs will stand place until the court makes a decision.
I'm Mark Mayfield.
