Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is WBZ Boston's news radio way defining local news.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Hartley, Cloudy and Boston. Right now. It is sixty five
degrees eleven o'clock on Monday morning. Thanks for being here.
I'm Nicole Davis. Here's what's happening. The man accused of
shooting several people at a Nashua country club, killing one
of them, is due in court this afternoon for arraignment.
Anturne Netto is set to be arraigned on a second
degree murder charge. The Attorney General in New Hampshire, John Formella,

(00:32):
says more charges are likely on the way now. Netto
is a former employee at the country club. Officials those
say they're trying to figure out if that was a
factor or what the other motive might have been. Reports
say the man who was killed, Robert D. Sassory, was
trying to protect his wife and daughter when he was shot.
For Mela says Netto also yelled several statements during the attack.

(00:53):
Law enforcement believes he was just doing so to create chaos.
They say they do not believe this is a hate
based act. Last night in Arizona, tens of thousands of
people packed State Farm Stadium in Glendale. They were there
to remember assassinated conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Here's the ABC's
Matt Rivers.

Speaker 3 (01:10):
The thirty one year old Turning Point USA founder was
assassinated while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University
little more than a week ago, sparking widespread condemnations of
political violence and inflaming partisan tentions throughout a deeply polarized nation.
But on Sunday, people pouring in from all over the
country with something in common, lining up before sunrise to

(01:30):
pay their final respects to someone they felt spoke to
or spoke for them, many hoping for a change in
the national dialogue.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
Kirk's wife, Erica, spoke at the service and opened up
about her thoughts on her husband's alleged killer father. Forgive
them for they not know what they do. That man,
that young man, I forgive him. We also heard from

(02:04):
President Trump, who took a different tone.

Speaker 4 (02:06):
He did not hate his opponents.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
He wanted the best for them. That's where I disagreed
with Charlie.

Speaker 5 (02:13):
I hate my opponent and I don't want the best
for them.

Speaker 4 (02:17):
I'm sorry, I am sorry, Erica.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
The President also telling the crowd the justice Department in
the wake of this is investigating what he calls networks
of radical left maniacs who needs us fund, organize, fuel,
and perpetrate political violence. This comes as the President goes
public on social media with this push for Attorney General
Pam Bondi to punish his political enemies.

Speaker 4 (02:38):
In a direct appeal, Trump publicly pressed Bondy to file
charges against his political adversaries New York Attorney General Letitia James,
former FBI Director James Comey, and California Senator Adam Schiff,
adding we can't delay any longer. It's killing our reputation
and credibility.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
We have to act fast.

Speaker 4 (02:56):
If they're not guilty, that's fine. If they are guilty,
or if they.

Speaker 1 (02:59):
Should be judge, they should be judge, and we have
to do it now.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
That is CBS's Scott McFarlane with that update. For the
rest of the afternoon, you should be in good shape
if you've got plans outside. We've got a mix of
sun and clouds in the forecast right now, many of
us in the upper fifties, low sixties, getting up to
about seventy or so on the coast today, seventy five inland.
Then for tonight, clear to partly cloudy, with a low
near sixty in Boston mid fifties. If you're inland for tomorrow,

(03:25):
it will be a bit more humid out there. We'll
have increasing clouds, couple of showers late in the day
and at night, with a high year eighty than Wednesday,
Mostly cloudy with a few more showers, but they will
start to make their way out throughout the afternoon, with
a high near seventy and more showers likely in the
afternoon on Thursday, with the high in the mid to
upper sixties. It's sixty four in Danvers right now, sixty

(03:46):
two in Sudbury, sixty five in Carver. In Boston right
now at eleven oh five, it is partly cloudy and
we're up to sixty five degrees. Karen Reid is back
in court today. Wbz's Drew o'holland tells us why three.

Speaker 6 (03:59):
Months after this, let's they use the defendman of the bar.

Speaker 4 (04:02):
Guilty or not guilty?

Speaker 3 (04:03):
Not guilty?

Speaker 6 (04:04):
Joe, all of you agree, thank you? This time it
is a civil suit in Plymouth Superior Court. The family
of Karen Reid's late boyfriend, John O'Keefe wants reed to
pay for what they claim is his wrongful death. Reed's
lead attorney in her criminal case, Alan Jackson, is part
of the civil trial. Attorneys for Reid want this case dismissed.
Karen Reid's second murder trial ended with her acquittal on

(04:24):
all but drunken driving charges, for which the Mansfield woman
is on a year's probation. Drew maholland WBZ Boston's News Radio.

Speaker 2 (04:31):
Union trash collectors at Republic Services are back to work
today after more than two months on the picket line.
The teamsters and Republic came to a deal on a
new collective bargaining agreement late last week that wrapped up
the strike that brought collections to a halt in fourteen
cities and towns. However, the thing is, Republic says it
could take about a week before your trash is picked
up on a normal schedule. They ask for your patients

(04:52):
as the workers in some cases have to be retrained
before they get back on their roots. And coming up
about four o'clock this afternoon, President Trump is expected to
make an announcement about the development of autism in children.
Here is ABC's Allison Koseik with a preview.

Speaker 5 (05:06):
The Washington Post reports the administration is planning to link
autism to the use of thailanol in pregnancy, and is
expected to claim that the FDA approved cancer drug luca
vorn is a possible treatment for autism, both claims raising
concern among many doctors. No studies have proven that use

(05:27):
of thailanol, known as a ceedominifin, by pregnant women is
a cause for autism. Some limited evidence suggests that it's
associated with higher rates of neurological issues, but those studies
have been mixed.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
Ken View, the maker of tailanol, is pushing back, saying, quote,
we believe independent sound science clearly shows taking a seedamnifen
does not cause autism, and we strongly disagree with any
suggestion otherwise. And today, NASA is set to announce its
latest class of astronaut candidates. Here's roy O'Neil.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
More than eight thousand people applied, but only a dozen
or so are expected to become astronaut candidates. Nicole Ayre's
recently returned to Earth after her first mission, which lasted
for six months. While in orbit, she talked to fifth
graders about what it takes to become an astronaut.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
Hard work, and teamwork gets you anywhere you want to go.
So pick what you like, follow your passion.

Speaker 4 (06:17):
And you could get to space Monday.

Speaker 1 (06:18):
This week, NASA is also updating plans for the Artemis
two mission, which we'll send humans around the Moon and back.
