This is WBZ, Boston's news radio, redefining local news.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
The light clouds have moved out. Now we have beautiful
sunny skies forty eight degrees in Boston at eleven o'clock
on this Saturday morning. It's October twenty fifth. As always,
thanks for tuning in. I'm Sherry Small. Let's get you
caught up with news. Here's what's happening. A work site
tragedy kills two workers in a crane collapse in Everett.
(00:30):
The accident being called part of a national wake up call.
CBS News Boston's Brandon Drewitt has to tail.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
The crane was doing work here at the old X
on site and Effett where ships used to come in
and offload the work. To dismantle it is phase one
of a year's long, multimillion dollar renovation to the waterfront.
They're going to have to bring in another crane company,
most likely to lift the crane up and get it
onto another bodge and then check it out to be investigated.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
It's a booked at and checked out.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
The state agency that oversees workplace safety put out a
statement calling on the governor and other leaders to beef
up regulations citing other crane collapses across the country when writing,
this is not just an Everett issue, it's a national
wake up call.
Speaker 4 (01:09):
It's a very unfortunate accident. How to go out, of course,
to their families and those that work with them, that
know them very well.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
We reached out to OSHA, it's the federal organization that
typically investigates workplace tragedies such as this one. But when
we reached out, we've got an automatic reply saying they
couldn't respond to our request due to the government shut down.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
And the two victims have not been identified. Firefighter from
Ireland is found guilty of raping a woman in Boston

the US is increasing its military presence there.
