Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is WBZY, Boston's news radio, redefining local news.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
We've had some clouds roll in seventy six degrees in
Boston at eleven o'clock. Hello, and thanks for being with
us on this Saturday. It's September sixth. I'm Sherry Smaller.
Now here's what's happening in news. The death of a
man while being restrained by Haverol police is being ruled
a homicide. CBS News Boston's Christina Rex has that report.

Speaker 3 (00:31):
I wasn't surprised at all.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
It was something I've been waiting to hear.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
Oh On.

Speaker 3 (00:35):
Michelle Rooney reacts to the news that the medical examiner
determined her fiance's death was a homicide. Dramatic video captured
the moment seven officers took down forty three year old
Frances Jigliotti outside a block of stores in Haverol on
July eleventh. His death sparked protests throughout the city and

(00:57):
calls for change. All seven officers were placed on leave
from Harol Police.

Speaker 4 (01:01):
I mean, I was there along with many other people
and saw what they did to him.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
So and it was disgusting.

Speaker 3 (01:07):
On Friday afternoon, the Essex County DA revealed that Jigliati's
autopsy is complete. His cause of death cardiac is rhythmia
and a person with acute intoxication due to the combined
effects of cocaine and ethanol while being restrained prone by
police the manner homicide.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
And this doesn't mean the officers will be charged with
the crime. Essex DA Paul Tucker says that he remains
committed to impartially transparent, to impartiality, that is, transparency and
thoroughness in this investigation. A judge rules on the Trump
administrations pulling the plug on legal protections for Venezuelans and Haitians.

(01:45):
We get that from the AP's Mike Hempen.

Speaker 5 (01:47):
A federal judge has locked the Trump administration from ending
temporary legal protections for people from Venezuela and Haiti. The
ruling means six hundred thousand Venezuelans whose temporary protections expired
in April or whose protections were set to expire September
tenth have status to stay and work in the US.

(02:08):
It also protects about five hundred thousand Haitians. US District
Judge Edward Chen, who issued the ruling, says Homeland Security
Secretary Christy Nome exceeded her authority and ending protections. The
government is expected to seek a stay of Chen's order
as it appeals. I'm my company.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
The Labor Department reporting the twenty two thousand jobs were
added in August, well below what economists had predicted. Your
CBS is Nicole Killiams and the Oval Office.

Speaker 1 (02:36):
Friday, President Trump continued to tout a hot economy. We're
gonna have a tremendous job growth, even as the August
jobs report showed signs of cooling down, with only twenty
two thousand jobs added, while unemployment ticked up to four
point three percent, the highest level since twenty twenty one,
and revisions to the June number showed employers cut thirteen

(02:58):
thousand jobs lost since the pandemic in twenty twenty.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
And this latest report is the first since President Trump
replaced the head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics following
last month dismal report. All right, now, let's check the
four day wbc ACU weather forecast. Meteorologists Heather's there telling
us that it's going to be a humid day today,
a high near eighty five, and then tonight we're going

(03:24):
to see the return of a couple of showers in
a thunderstorm that's around late in the day into the
early evening. Those could produce some damaging wind gusts, especially
in the areas west of Boston. Mostly cloudy, with a
leftover shower or two in spots later on tonight, with
an overnight low of sixty two. Tomorrow on Sunday, of
some clouds and some rain into the early afternoon, but

(03:46):
much cooler and less humid than what we're going to
see today for the rest of the day. Some sun
may return late as well, but we'll only see a
high tomorrow of sixty seven, so much much cooler than
what we're going to see today. With the today's high
eighty five Monday, a mix of sun and clouds. It'll
be warmer in the afternoon, will warm back up to
a high seventy four Tuesday, cooling down just a bit.

(04:08):
Highs near seventy in the city. Right now, we are
seeing mostly cloudy sky's seventy six degrees. It's eleven oh
six all right. Health officials are encouraging people to take
precautions as cases of West Nile virus are on the rise.
WBC's Brooke McCarthy with the very latest The.

Speaker 6 (04:28):
Risk for West Nile virus is now high in twenty
eight cities and towns across the state, including Natick, Marlborough,
Framingham and Sudbury, to name just a few. This comes
after state health officials announced two additional human cases of
the mosquito born virus, including a man in his forties
that was exposed in Hampden County and a man in
his eighties in Middlesex County. This brings the total number

(04:49):
of cases to four so far this year. There have
been no human or annimal cases of Triple E infections
are expected to increase until the first hard frost of
the season. According to Public ho Commissioner Robbie Goldstein, he
encourages residents to protect themselves from mosquito bites by using repellent,
wearing long sleeves and pants to reduce exposed skin, and
not going out at peak mosquito hours at dusk and dawn.

(05:12):
Brooke McCarthy WBS Boston's news radio, All Right.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
The Old Farmer's Almanaki is out with its forecast. WBZ
Suzanne Sauscil tells us what we can expect from Old
Man Winter this year.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
It's beginning to look a lot live Christmas.

Speaker 4 (05:30):
Maybe not. The Farmer's Almanac is calling for another mild
and dry winter for us. Eric He's okay with that.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
So I grew up in Boston. I moved to California
for thirty years.

Speaker 5 (05:41):
Last year was my first winter back, so it's the
first time having the shovels snow since I was a kid.
I did not miss it, not one bit.

Speaker 4 (05:49):
But Wand from Puerto Rico loves the snow and wants
more of it.

Speaker 2 (05:53):
A lot of people you know, who you know, they
don't you know why snow, but I'm sorry they had
to move to Florida.

Speaker 4 (06:00):
If you're planning a trip to Florida, keep in mind
the Almanac is predicting a colder than normal winter there
with above average precipitation in Hyde Park. Suzanne so Osville
