Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is w b Z, Boston's news radio re defining
local news. Fifty one degrees in Boston, it feels more
like forty out there because of the wind. At eleven o'clock,
Good morning, I'm Nicole Davis. Here is what's happening starting
this hour with a big promotion for the head of
the MBTA, Governor Moore Healey today naming MBTA General Manager

(00:25):
Philip Eng to service the state's interim Transportation secretary. Current
Secretary Monica tibbets Nut is stepping down effective today, and
she's also leaving her role as CEO of MASTOT. As
the general manager, Ang has overseen big projects on the
tee to get rid of slow zones and modernize the system. Now,
Hughley says he will serve as both interim Secretary and

(00:47):
as the general manager of the tee during this time.
Jonathan Gulliver also promoted today to Undersecretary of Transportation. He
will too, continue to serve as Highway Administrator at eleven
ozho one. The government shut down extending well over two
weeks now, where day sixteen no end in sight, it seems.
Here's Rachel Scott from ABC.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
Sixteen days into the shutdown, more than four thousand workers
have been let go. Typically workers are furloughed, not fired.
But the president's trying to pressure Democrats to back off
their healthcare demands, saying he will eliminate programs important to them.

Speaker 3 (01:20):
They're going to be terminated on a permanent basis. And
it's thousands of people, and it's you know, billions of dollars.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
Democrats holding firm on their healthcare demands to extend expiring
Obamacare subsidies.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
A federal judge has temporarily blocked the Trump administration from
firing people during the shutdown, saying evidence would show they
are illegal. Eleven oh two Governor more Heley says, you
will put an indefinite hold on about one hundred and
twenty five million dollars in lawmaker ear marks. The money
was set to go to local projects, but that's being
kept back for the time being, considering the murky forecast

(01:52):
when it comes to federal funds. That being said, her
budget head Matthew Borskowitz says he is holding steady on
tax revenue projections for the fifth year. At this point,
they are not considering any major moves. And before we
take a look at traffic. The Trump Administration's multi billion
dollar bailout to Argentina could be getting even bigger. The
update now from ABC's Elizabeth Scholzen.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
Henry Secretary Scott Besson now says the US bailout of
Argentina could double to forty billion dollars. Besson says the
Treasuries working with the private sector to raise another twenty
billion dollars for Argentina, while the US government also took
the unusual step of directly buying pesos for the second
time in a week. This is all intended to prop
up Argentina's struggling currency and to show support for President Newley,

(02:35):
who's an ally of President Trump, ahead of midterm elections
in Argentina in a few weeks now.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
Some American soybean farmers are not happy about this. They
are criticizing the administration for boosting the economy of a
foreign country that's a competitor. They say they're suffering because
of the White House's trade war with China. Many Chinese
buyers are going to Argentina instead to get their beans.
And for the rest of the afternoon, there is a
chance that we could be seeing some drizzle along parts

(03:01):
of the Capan Islands. But really the big weather story
for most of us is the fact that it's going
to be a bit windy out there today. Looking at
the current wind gusts out there, we've got overall winds
about eight to ten miles an hour, some fifteen mile
an hour sustained winds, but then we start gusting into
the twenties and even thirties. Seeing a thirty five mile
an hour wind gustin Woolsters a short time ago. So

(03:23):
one of those days where if you're going to be outside,
the layers will be key. Even though it's going to
be gorgeous outside, it will feel chilly. We've got a
high in the mid fifties for tonight, clearing alone near
forty five in Boston. Thirties if you're north and west
of the city. For tomorrow, lots of sun. We've got
a high year sixty. Looking ahead to the weekend, pretty
good out there, both days mostly sunny, and we've got

(03:44):
a high in the mid to upper sixties right now
in Marshfield forty eight degrees. We are looking west to
Boston at forty five in Orange north of Boston, forty
nine in Haveril. In Boston at eleven oh five, partly cloudy,
and we're at fifty but it feels like thirty nine.
This new video on social media shows a Massachusetts based
activist getting arrested while protesting outside an ice facility in Portland, Oregon.

(04:08):
North Shore native Rob Pattillo, otherwise known as Robbie road Steamer,
was seen on video dancing and singing in a giraffe
costume in front of the building next to the now
viral Portland Frog.

Speaker 2 (04:21):
You are come by ice waiting, poor lad?

Speaker 1 (04:26):
Yeah, why don't you on your Supersca's not ready for.

Speaker 3 (04:32):
Prime time player.

Speaker 1 (04:33):
Pattillo was demonstrating in front of the facility on the
public side of a clearly marked property line, but in
the video agents can be seen coming off the property,
dragging him over the line, and then arresting him. Go
fund Me for Batillo says he is now facing trespassing
charges and now that Salem Congressman Seth Moulton is making
a run for Senate, we are learning who's jumping into
the race to replace him in the house. Dan Coe

(04:55):
says he is now running to replace Multon. If the
name sounds familiar, it's because the end dover Man is
well known in Bay State politics. He served for a
time as former Boston Mayor Marty Walsh's chief of staff.
Also went to Washington with Walsh to work at the
Labor Department, and co has also served on the Andover
select Board. In his statement, he says the country is
in crisis. Coe goes on to say the district needs

(05:17):

working families. You are now in the loop for news
