Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is WBZY, Boston's news radio.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
We defining local news, exact foggy, plenty of rain in
Boston right now, sixty six degrees. It's eleven o'clock. Good morning.
I'm Nicole Davis. Here's what's happening. Not really the best
day for a game at Fenway, but it doesn't matter,
as the Red Sox are on the verge of clinching
a spot in the playoffs. Wbz's Drew moholland has more

(00:27):
on that.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
The Socks could sweep the Blue Jays tonight in Toronto.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Swinging a high ride. I got a hold of this one.

Speaker 4 (00:33):
This is way back and she is god ho ron
masa taki yoshidah.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
And if they do, the Socks make the playoffs and
try this one on for size, they could actually clinch
a wild card spot as soon as this afternoon. If
the Astros lose to the Athletics today, at your dinner
table tonight, there might be a cheers to the Red
Sox on tap for you. We shall see the twenty
twenty five Boston Red Sox.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
Do you know what?

Speaker 3 (00:55):
We didn't doubt you for a second, did we?

Speaker 2 (00:56):
And not a World Series contended?

Speaker 3 (00:58):
Ooh, I think they just might be World Series title
right there for the take and drewmaholland WZ Boston's News Radio.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
This afternoon, President Trump is expected to sign a deal
that could keep TikTok running in the United States now.
Last year, Congress passed a law that would ban TikTok
unless US stakeholders bought it from Chinese parent company byt Dance.
Here's ABC's Mary Bruce.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
TikTok's US operations will now be run by this new
joint venture, with American user's data stored in the US
and overseen by the cloud computing firm Oracle. And perhaps
most importantly, this new ownership group will get a copy
of the algorithm that secret sauce that makes TikTok so addictive.
Trump says. Other American investors, including Michael Dell of Dell
Technologies in the Murdoch family will also play a role.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
Now you can find WBZ on TikTok. We are there.
You might have seen the Matt Sheer videos all the
rest from our reporters. Find us there at WBZ News Radio.
Earlier this week, President Trump's former defense lawyer, Lindsay Halligan
was sworn in as acting US Attorney for the Eastern
District of Virginia.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
Now.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
Reports say she is preparing to bring criminal charges against
the former head of the FBI, James Comy. He's been
accused of lying before Congress five years ago.

Speaker 1 (02:08):
Trump has been adamant, just days ago, directing his Attorney General,
Pam Bondy to go after Comy, calling him guilty, adding
nothing is being done and we can't delay any longer.

Speaker 5 (02:18):
They should be judged and we have to do it now.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
Sources say the President forced out his own appointed US
Attorney for Eastern Virginia, whose office had been investigating Comy
for three months, replacing him with one of his personal lawyers,
Lindsay Halligan, saying Halligan would get things moving.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
And the US economy hit the accelerator. In the second quarter.

Speaker 4 (02:38):
Economic growth was stronger than expected, with the government revising
second quarter GDP higher to three point eight percent from
three point three percent, a big surprise for the market,
which expected the numbers to remain steady. The increase in
GDP is credited to lower imports and stronger consumer spending,
helping offset weaker investment activity. In addition to that, orders

(02:58):
for big ticket items like appliances and electronics unexpectedly rose
two point nine percent in August, rebounding from a decline
the previous month.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
That is, CBS's Jason Brooks initially jobless claims fell to
two hundred eighteen thousand. We have a flash flood warning
that is up for parts of Bristol and Plymouth Counties.
This is up until just about twelve thirty this afternoon.
We have had a lot of heavy rain coming through
southeastern Massachusetts this morning, some of this falling at about
one and a half to three inches an hour. One

(03:29):
of those days where if you have a usual spot
that along your commute tends to flood when it comes
to heavy rain. It's probably happening today, so just watch
out for that. The heaviest of this rain right now
is out over the ocean. We do still see some
over Cape Cod seeing some heavier downpours too, and parts
of central mass and also through the Berkshars. But again
this is going to be the way it is today,

(03:50):
waves of heavy rain from time to time, scattered showers,
and just a gray, humid, foggy, sticky day. Otherwise a
good day to sit in the house nest if you can.
We have a high year seventy for tonight, a couple
of showers in augusty storm, we have a low in
the mid sixties. Could see some sun tomorrow with a
couple of spotty showers in a high year eighty. Weekend

(04:12):
looks good, dry both days and we've got a high
in the mid seventies right now. Temperatures sixty seven degrees
in Framingham. We're at sixty five in Gloucester, sixty seven
in Brockton, and in Boston at eleven oh six. It
is raining and foggy and sixty six degrees. Governor more
Heely and the MBTA are getting serious about cracking down

(04:33):
on drivers who park and block bus lanes. Wbz's Jim
McKay has more on that.

Speaker 5 (04:39):
Commuters around Columbus. Avid Roxbury certainly have their stories. Oh
my god, it's like thirty minutes delays because there's been
cars that are just standing there. Ryan works at nearby
Northeastern and says his daily bus commute could be a nightmare,
especially with you have trucks you have but just waiting there.
That's why the MBTA Board of Directors signed off on
a plan that will go into effect early next year

(05:00):
or twenty five dollars violations for cars blocking bus lanes
to start, and subsequent offenses will go all the way
up over one hundred dollars. Not everyone's on.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
Board, you know.

Speaker 1 (05:10):
I don't know who is creating this.

Speaker 5 (05:12):
Marcus thinks it's a few bad apples who are spoiling
it for everybody.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
I think it's unfair to draft.

Speaker 5 (05:18):
But the days of talking about it, however, are over,
and now is the time for action in Roxbury. Jim
MCKAWVZ Boston's News.

Speaker 2 (05:26):
Radio on Capitol Hill. Congress has just six days to
agree to a budget to avoid a government shutdown, and
the White House is threatening to fire even more federal employees.

Speaker 6 (05:36):
The White House is telling federal agencies to prepare for
furloughs and threatening mass firings if an agreement is not reached,
and a memo obtained by ABC News the White House
and the Administration revealing programs that do not align with
the president's policies could be targeted. This is a major
escalation and a significant break from the way that shutdowns
are traditionally handled, where furlough employees are then brought back

(05:57):
once an agreement is reached.

Speaker 2 (05:59):
This ABC's Rachel Scott. Democrats said they won't approve anything
that doesn't secure healthcare funding. You are now in the
loop for news updates throughout the day. Listen to WBZ
