Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is w b Z, Boston's news radio readfining local news.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Forty one degrees in Boston. We've got plenty of sun
out there, a bit of a breeze. At eleven o'clock.
Good morning, I'm Nicole Davis and here's what's happening topping
our news this half hour. A judge is now granted
the Justice Department's request to unsealed grand jury records from
the investigation into convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. US District Court
Judge Richard Berman, citing a new law called the Epstein

(00:31):
Files Transparency Act, which contains a narrow legal pathway through
which grand jury records can be unsealed. This comes a
day after another judge made similar decisions regarding Epstein's closest confidant,
Glaine Maxwell. She is currently serving twenty years in prison
for sex trafficking. Recently, she said she would ask for
a pardon or a commutation. Last night, President Trump and

(00:53):
Pennsylvania speaking about affordability and what his administration is doing.
Here's ABC's Mary Bruce.

Speaker 3 (00:59):
President's ending by his tariffs while saying Americans may have
to make some sacrifices. You don't need thirty seven dollars
for your daughter two or three is nice, but you
don't need thirty seven dollars.

Speaker 4 (01:11):
So we're doing things right. We're running this country.

Speaker 3 (01:14):
Right, but most polls show voters don't agree. A new
Reuter's IPSOS poll shows fifty six percent of Americans disapprove
of how the president is handling the cost of living.
Only thirty one percent approved.

Speaker 4 (01:26):
Now.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
Inflation spiked up to more than nine percent in twenty
twenty two, but came back down to more typical levels
by the summer of twenty twenty three. It is still
higher than the Federal Reserve's target, but this afternoon, the
FED is nonetheless expected to cut interest rates again when
it wraps up its latest two day meeting.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
If the central Bank does what the analysts expect, it
would bring rates to their lowest level in almost three years.
Stephen Kates is a financial analyst for Bank Rate. The
data that we have.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
Available is demonstrating that the labor market not only has cooled,
but is continuing to cool.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
The Fed governors will be making their decisions without some
key government data because of the government shutdown. Christopher Cruz,
CBS News Washington.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
We'll get you the Fed's decision as soon as it
comes down at two o'clock on WBZ, streaming always on
the iHeartRadio app and millions of student loan borrowers whose
payments were paused by a Biden era plan may soon
be forced back into making those payments.

Speaker 5 (02:21):
The Department of Education announced plans to lift a pause
on certain student loan repayment plans. The deal is part
of a proposed settlement with Missouri, which sued the government
over the Safe Plan that was launched by former President
Biden in twenty twenty three. The program reduced interest and
provided a path for loan forgiveness after ten years of repayment.

(02:41):
If approved, millions of borrowers will be left scrambling to
find another option to repay their debt. Stacy Lynn, CBS
News Washington.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
In the forecast, we are looking at a pretty nice
day overall here in the Boston area. We have been
watching a few snowshowers to the north and west, mostly
in southern New hemp sure in from Monten I'd say,
west of the Quabbin and along the route to Corridor.
Those are essentially flurries, maybe nuisance snow showers at the worst,
a little bit of drizzle right now in southeastern Massachusetts.

(03:12):
We could see a bit more rain come through later on.
Certainly mild out there today. We've got a high in
the mid to upper forties, and yeah, that's pretty mild
for this time of year. It's been a pretty cold
end of fall so far. For tonight, more rain coming
through early, maybe a bit of wet snow north and
west of four ninety five. Otherwise, it's just going to
be windy out there and a few clouds could come through,

(03:33):
and we've got a low about freezing thirty two or
thirty three now. For tomorrow, we could have some spotty
afternoon snow showers. We get right back into that winter
like weather. High only in the mid thirties, but feeling
like the teens. Winds are going to pick up yet again,
gusting to about forty miles an hour. It's forty two
in Brockton right now, thirty seven in Lowell, west of Boston,

(03:54):
thirty seven in Worcester. In Boston right now at eleven
oh five, it's partly cloudy. We're at forty one degrees
and it feels more like thirty two. State regulators seem
to be ready to pass regulations to get cannabis cafes
and other social consumption sites open in Massachusetts. Your CBS
News Boston's Luisa Muller I.

Speaker 5 (04:13):
Am pleased, as promised, we're going to be able to
get this finished.

Speaker 4 (04:16):
An exclusive interview with WBZ, the chair of the Cannabis
Control Commission, the regulatory body which oversees the cannabis industry,
told us social consumption regulations should be approved this coming Thursday.
The first licenses will only be available for members of
the CCC's Social Equity Program, those persons who've been disproportionately
impacted by the War on drugs. After that, each municipality

(04:39):
can decide if they want pot cafes, lounges, or even
yoga studios held in Safety Commissioner Kimberly Roy says the
regulations will include safeguards. We mandated that licensees must have
a ride share plan on that they cannot collmingle alcohol
with cannabis.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
And the vote is expected to take place tomorrow at
levenoh six. The Connecticut man arrested in connection with that
street takeover in the South End a couple months back
is being held on two thousand dollars bail nineteen year
old David morn Chavez waived his extradition during his hearing
in Roxbury District Court. During that hearing, he pled not
guilty to the charges against him. He's accused of helping

(05:17):
to tor to a Boston police cruiser and disturb the peace,
among other charges. During that pre dawn takeover has happened
at massav and Tremont Street, Dozens of people blocking the
street doing donuts, causing chaos. Two others have pled not
guilty in connection with that event. If he has released,
Moron Chavez will be monitored by GPS and he'll have
to stay out of the city of Boston. Some developing

(05:39):
news this morning at eleven oh seven, we have learned
Boston Medical Center employee was stabbed outside of the hospital
early this morning. BMC says an employee was stabbed right
by their campus and was able to get inside to
get treatment. They are right now dealing with life threatening injuries.
Boston Police say a suspect was also arrested and taken
to the hospital. For years, she told the story of

(06:01):
a financial journalist who miserably struggled with managing her own cash,
a story that became wildly popular all over the world.
Sophie Kinsella, whose real name was Madeline Wickham, has passed
away from brain cancer. Her first hit book, Confessions of
a Shopaholic, came out in two thousand. She says she
was inspired by this build that she got for her
credit card and made a story out of it. Nine

(06:22):
other novels in that series followed. She sold tens of
millions of copies. Kincello was diagnosed with the glioblastoma three
years ago, but announced it only back in April of
last year. Sophie Kinsella was fifty five. You are now
in the loop. For news updates throughout the day, listened
