Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is WBZ, Boston's news radio, redefining local news.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
Sixty eight degrees in Boston right now, very foggy, and
we have some drizzle in the city, heavy rain to
the south. We'll get the forecast coming up in just
about three minutes. Good morning, I'm Nicole Davis, and we
start this hour on Beacon Hill. That's where earlier this morning,
Boston police officers shot a suspect. Please say they responded
to a break in on Mount Vernon Street when in
(00:32):
an alley they found a naked man holding a knife.
Officers tried to stop him with a taser, they say,
but when that didn't work, they say, the officers shot
their service weapons, hitting the man. Boston Police Superintendent Paul
McLoughlin says the suspect has non life threatening injuries, but
otherwise details are slim.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
Again, we're very early, so exactly what is the motive
behind what he was doing, we don't know, and we
hope to find out through the early parts of the investigation.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
I will confirm that he was on clothes at the time.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
Yes, police are asking anybody who might have any information
about what happened here to reach out and Homeland Security
now says ICE detainees were among those shot during an
attack on an immigration facility in Dallas this morning. We
are waiting on a more in depth update from law
enforcement that is expected to happen in a matter of minutes.
ABC's Jim Ryan brings us up to speed in the meantime.
Speaker 4 (01:23):
Alongside a busy freeway northwest of downtown Dallas, police say
a gunman opened fire on an ICE detention facility. Acting
ICE director Todd Lyon says the shots came from about
two hundred yards away.
Speaker 1 (01:34):
It's a secure location, but it's not covered and that's
where I think the shots came in from an elevated
position down into the location.
Speaker 4 (01:40):
Three people were shot, none of them ICE agents. As
police were closing in on the gunman, Lion says he
took his own life. Jim Ryan Aby Seniors.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
President Trump is slamming ABC for putting Jimmy Kimmel's late
night show back on the air. On social media, the
President called ABC a quote true bunch of losers. Kimmel, meantime,
became emotional during his turn to the airwaves.
Speaker 5 (02:01):
Jimmy Kimmel back on air overnight, thanking his supporters, including
those who doesn't typically agree with politically.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
It takes courage for them to speak out against this administration,
and they did and they deserve credit for it, and
them so kelly of followers that our government cannot be
allowed to control what we do and do not say
on television, and that we have to stand up to it.
Speaker 5 (02:25):
Kimmel tearful at times when discussing the reason he was
suspended his comments about Charlie Kirk's murder.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
That is ABC's Lionel Moyees. Some media companies, including Sinclair
and Next Star, are still refusing to air Kimmel's show
on their ABC affiliates. And the project to restore the
bridge connecting the North End to Charlestown is officially over
and the bridge has a new name to honor a
Celtic's legend. Governor Heey and other officials were at a
ceremony today to celebrate the complete restoration of the bridge,
(02:54):
which is now named for the late Bill Russell, as
used to be known as the North Washington Street Bridge.
That masstop project costs about two hundred million dollars. It
is going to be a wet day for the rest
of the afternoon into the evening, It's just one of
those days where you never really know when the showers
are going to pop up. Certainly scattered in nature, and
some of them could be heavier. We do have some
(03:16):
heavy rain coming down on parts of the South coast
Capan Islands, and for the rest of the afternoon we
are getting to about the mid sixties, and that is
about where we're going to stay temperature wise for tonight.
The rain continues, especially later on overnight we have a
low near sixty. Then tomorrow heavier rain at times. We
have thunderstorms possible as well. This could cause some flooding
(03:37):
on the roads and the usual spots, so watch out
for that and definitely stay tuned to WBZ. We have
traffic on the threes of course. Hi Tomorrow a little
warmer toward the low seventies, and then on Friday we
could see some sun, but it will stay sticky and
humid out there, and we have a warmer day ahead
with a high pushing eighty. Heavy rain in Carver. Right now,
(03:58):
we're sixty five to grease some clouds and fog out
there north of Boston in Salem, that's where it's sixty

You took an oath to protect and serve to keep
your family, your city safe.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
ICE recruitment ads are making the local airwaves appealing to
local police to join its deportation efforts. Reactions to the
tactic are mixed.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
I have not seen the ad.
Speaker 4 (04:35):
I've heard of it, and I think it's horrible.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
I just don't agree with anything that ICE is doing.
Speaker 5 (04:41):
Yeah, it's great, safe the streets for Americans. I'm not
sure that the impact is that great in terms of
positive impact on economies and communities and that sort of things.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
Similar recruitment ads have already been running another sanctuary and
Democrat led cities Yes at South Station James Rojas WBZ,
Boston's news radio.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
Massachusetts Senator and Markey could have a challenge from the
North Shore for next year's midterms. According to The Globe,
six term Congressman Seth Moulton of Salem is seriously considering
a run to take Markey's seat, although there hasn't been
a final decision on any such move. Moulton is forty six.
He has been a supporter of bringing in new leadership
and a new generation of Democrats into the party. If
(05:27):
Markey is reelected, he would be eighty when he went
back to d C for his third Senate term. If
you were one of the AT and T customers whose
data was leaked last year, you have just a few
weeks to claim part of a one hundred and seventy
seven million dollars settlement. In that case, details from ABC's
Jim Ryan.
Speaker 4 (05:43):
Over the course of twenty twenty four, tens of millions
of AT and T customers had personal information leaked onto
the dark web in two separate cyber attacks. The telecommunications
giant has denied any mishandling of its customers data, but
has agreed to pay out millions to settle claims from
a class action lawsuit. Go to Cruel Settlement Administration to
see if you qualify, and.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
You have until November eighteenth. Oxford Comma lovers, today is
the day for you. Same for those who like to
point out unnecessary uses of quotation marks. I'm guilty of that.
It's national punctuation.
Speaker 6 (06:15):
Today we show some love to the symbols that clarify
meaning and convey emotion. Commas, exclamation points, question marks and
for sans, and the octathorpe. That's the technical name for
the number sign. Depending upon your age, it could also
be known as the pound symbol or the hashtag. Grammar
experts say the exclamation point is the most overused mark,
the comma the most misused, and no need for excessive punctuation.
(06:39):
They say, one mark is usually enough. I'm pre tennis.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
