This is WBZ, Boston's news radio. We defining local news. Well,
look who it is who decided to show up today.
It's Friday. Get in here, you little devil. Let's hug

cold once again this morning. It's windy and it's twenty
(00:23):
three degrees here in Boston. The News at six o'clock
brought to us by your New England Toyota dealer, your
hybrid all wheel drive headquarters. Thanks for being here. I'm
Jeff Brown. You know what they say, it's not the heat,
it's the humidity. Mostly sunny, blustery and cold today, the
high thirty six and it's WBZ Acting weather Meteorologist Joe Lundberg. Neither,
of course, is a problem today as it's going to
(00:44):
feel like we're going to be stuck in the teens.
High drama on the Tobin Bridge as a Massachusetts State
Police trooper literally talks a troubled man off the ledge police.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
That voice you hear is Massachusetts State Police crisis negotiations
Rasan Charles Light. That's young in you right now, we'll
go to that.
Speaker 3 (01:04):
Don't let that go, don't let that go. Nobody wants
to win.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
Don't let that, don't let that change yourself.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
You can hear Trooper Charles's compassionate approach to this precarious situation,
understanding the moment and working to de escalate. You've been
through so much. It's still standing strong, man, You're still
standing strong exactly. Not a quitter. You're not a quitter,
he continues, reassuring the man facing a mental health crisis.
He's just there to help.
Speaker 3 (01:27):
That's what.
Speaker 4 (01:29):
I know.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
And I'm sorry that you guys are here.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
But Charles proved he was there for a reason, successfully
grabbing on and bringing him to safety.
Speaker 1 (01:37):

the story. This incident comes as Massachusetts State Police are
installing new training policies. This might be an award winning
training video. Closing arguments are expected to begin in just
a few hours in Norfolk Superior Court as the Brian
Walsh murdered gial enters its final phase. This comes following
(01:59):
a risky stratug by the defense to rest its case
without calling a single witness. The surprise announcement comes as
the jury was expecting to hear from the accused killer himself. Instead,
Walsh tells the court he did not want to testify.
The defense says Walsh did not kill his wife Anna,
following a New Year's Eve party almost three years ago. Instead,
(02:20):
says Anna died from natural causes while Walsh panicked and
covered it up. Bruins pour it on the Blues for

Speaker 1 (03:31):
What has happened to us here in Greater Boston. We're
about to enter the final week of the fall season,
and it's just unbelievably cold and windy too. I mean,
the winds have been howling they continue to do so.
This morning we've got gusts in excess of thirty miles
an hour and it's just twenty three degrees, but with
the wind, it feels like it's barely above zero, and that, unfortunately,
(03:54):
is what we're in for again today. Mostly sunny sky,
so at least we've got that going for us, which
is nice. Going to be very windy. Highs will only
be in the mid thirties, but it won't feel that way.
In fact, this weekend, we're still dealing with the cold,
and to add insult to injury, there's a storm system
targeting us However, it does look like it's going to
remain mostly south of the area, and any accumulating snow
(04:17):
will be well south of the city, and we're only
talking maybe a couple of inches at best. That's tomorrow
night into Sunday. But here's the thing, the long range
outlook looks like it's going to start to warm up
just as we flip the calendar to the first day
of winter. Wouldn't you know it, It's a topsy turvy
World twenty three here in Boston, clear skies at six
oh six on this Friday morning. Classes are canceled again
(04:39):
this morning as the sick bed calls.
Speaker 4 (04:41):
No school for a second day at Roberts Elementary School
in Medford as suspected cases of neurovirus continued to climb.
Over one hundred and thirty students were outsick at the
beginning of the week, with that number only growing now.
School officials say over twenty staff members are also sick.
The city's Board of Health has seemed the building safe
after it underwent a deep clean. However, officials say there
(05:02):
would not be enough students and staff for a safe
learning environment. Brooke McCarthy WBZ, Boston Sneeze Radio Getime.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
A new report this morning finds coronavirus vaccines are keeping
kids and young adults out of the hospital. The latest
update from the cdc SO shows children under four who
got the shot last year were seventy six percent less
likely to need to make a visit to the emergency
room or urgent care center, while more than fifty percent
(05:28):
in the five to seventeen year old crowd needed medical attention.
This update flies directly in the face of Health Secretary
Robert F. Kennedy Junior's claim that COVID shots are the
deadliest vaccine in US history. One of the best nighttime
shows of the year is about to peak this weekend,
the Geminid meteor showers. They're already underway, but experts will
(05:49):
tell you the perseods, which get all the headlines mainly
because they occur in the summer. They do say that
geminids are actually the best, and if you don't mind
the cold, it's worth spending some time up late and
away from the city lights. The geninids were first discovered
in the nineteenth century, and around two am tomorrow morning
is when the peak begins, when at least fifty metiears
(06:12):
an hour will light up the sky every single hour.
You are now in the loop for news updates throughout
the day. Listen to WBZ News Radio on the iHeartRadio app.
