Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is WBZ, Boston's news radio, redefining local news. Look,
who's here Friday, Ye little devil, bring it in. Let's
hug it out. People. It is six o'clock and it's
already seventy six degrees, but it is much less humid

(00:21):
in Boston this morning. The News at six is brought
to us by You're New England Toyota Dealer, your hybrid
all wheel drive headquarters. Thanks for being here today. I'm
Jeff Brown, much better Boston Son and some clowns.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
For today, it'll be breezy and much less humid with
a hya eighty four degree.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
This WBZ after weather meteorologist Tether's aaire a fifty to
fifty weekend, though coming up a nice day tomorrow, not
so nice coming up on Sunday. It's back to the
bargaining table. A federal mediator will join the Teamsters Union
in Republic Services in contract talks Today. CBS News Boston's
Samantha Cheney with details.

Speaker 3 (00:56):
It's been along through weeks for residents and businesses here in.

Speaker 4 (01:00):
It does not.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
Smell good in my apartment right now.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
We're right next to where the trash is.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
They're dealing with harsh smells and overflowing trash cans after
union trash collectors walked off the job earlier this month,
demanding better pay and benefits from Republic Services.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
It has affected our business. We've actually rented a big
dumpster for all back for just our recycling.

Speaker 3 (01:23):
And United in outrage, officials from affected cities across the
North Shore went to Salem Superior Court demanding a change.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
And we filed suit to try to get some relief
from the courts to require Republic to pick up our
trash recycle and Governor Mara Heally is throwing her two
cents in to urge a settlement to this dispute and
says it's beyond a headache now that the strike has
gone on this long. President Trump says he can't believe
we're still talking about this, but we are. And he's

(01:52):
authorizing the release of Jeffrey Epstein's grand jury document.

Speaker 4 (01:56):
The President says he's ordered Attorney General Pam Bondi to
petition the courts to allow the release of any and
all pertinent grand jury testimony related to the case of
convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Overnight, President Trump also blasted
a wall Street Journal article that claims he sent Epstein
a body note for his fiftieth birthday, featuring a doodle

(02:16):
of a naked woman online. President Trump called the letter fake,
writing it's not the way he talks and he doesn't
draw pictures, threatening to sue the paper.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
ABS's Jared Hill Bondie will make the government's case in
federal courts this morning. Recision Decision after another late night
on Capitol Hill. This time it's the House of Representatives,
which falls in line with the President's planned to clawback
billions of dollars in federal funding that has already been
approved by Congress. The nine billion dollar take back devastates

(02:46):
funding for international aid and the nation's public broadcasting system.
The bill moves to the Oval Office now well before
its deadline of midnight tonight. The President's will sign its
late today and no more Late night on CBS. Before
we start the show, I want to let you know
something that I found out. Next year will be our
last season.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
The network will be ending the Late Show in May.

Speaker 1 (03:10):
And the network says it's times up for Stephen Colbert
and we'll pull the plug on the entire Late Show franchise.
Colbert will finish what David Letterman started more than thirty
years ago. CBS officials say this is purely a financial decision.
In Boston this morning, what a fresh start we get
as we walk out the door. Now here's the thing.

(03:31):
It's still warm, but the humidity levels are noticeably down today.
You can feel it as soon as you open the door.
It's seventy six degrees though at the moment in Boston,
it's going to be hot today, just not as humid.
Plenty of sunshine along the way too. With the high
temperature in the mid eighties, mainly clear back in the
sixties tonight, and in some areas we actually could drop

(03:52):
into the fifties. It's been quite some time since we've
seen temperatures that low in the overnight hours. Tomorrow is
another beautiful day, sun and clouds, highs in the mid eighties,
and then on Sunday we're looking at still warm weather,
but humidity levels are on the rise. It's going to
be a mostly cloudy Sunday with some showers and thunderstorms
hanging around for much of the day and especially the afternoon.

(04:13):
But as we kick off the brand new work week
next week, it is going to be absolutely stunning with
sunny skies and highs seventy five to eighty on Monday.
Right now, it's already seventy six and some sunshine in
Boston at six oh six on this Friday morning. The
American dream in eastern Massachusetts at least now comes with
a seven figure cost.

Speaker 5 (04:32):
It's not getting any easier to afford a home in
the Greater Boston area because, for the first time in history,
the medium price of a single family home has surpassed
one million dollars. Data from the Greater Boston Association of
Realtors shows the price has been hovering just shy of
the million dollar marks since April, and the price is
actually up four point five percent from this time last year.

(04:53):
But if you are in the market for a place
to live, there is some good news when it comes
to condominiums. The medium price and the Greater Boston area
is at seven hundred and twenty five thousand dollars, which
is down month to month and from this time last
year when it was at seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars.
Experts say that increased condo development across the region has
led to better price tags. Broke McCarthy to BBS Boston's

(05:16):
news radio.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
The boys are back.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
This magical run.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
Finally, the Red Sox hope to keep the mojo going. Tonight,
the second half of the season begins. It's the Socks
and Cubbies in Chicago.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
To twenty this afternoon. That's when the Red Sox kick
off the second half of the mlbc's old school style
with a matinee at Wrigley against the Cubs. I'll be
watching because there's renewed interest in the hometown nine thanks
to this ten game heater. The Socks are presently on talks,
are playing great ten in a row.

Speaker 5 (05:50):
Let's see what they can.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
Do and looking up, they got a great pitch.

Speaker 2 (05:54):
Yes, there they do. Garrett Crochet, who slated to throw
in the third and final game of the series, surrounded
by young core cause for excitement.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
This team has a shot. They just need a couple
pieces and these guys that have come up, they're making
a huge difference.

Speaker 3 (06:10):
I think this team has a shot to make a run.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
Chris Fauma, WBZ Boston's News Radio.

Speaker 1 (06:16):
You are now in the loop for news updates throughout
the day. Listen to WBZ News Radio on the iHeartRadio app.
