Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is WBZ, Boston's news radio, redefining local news. All right,
enough with the wind, what's the deal with the wind?
We've got some sunshine as we get our engines started.
On this Monday morning, it is fifty three degrees. A
(00:20):
News at six is brought to you by your New
England Toyota headquarters, your all wheel Drive headquarters. Six o'clock
on this Monday morning and fifty three degrees. I'm Jeff Brown.
You know what fall might feel warmer in the coming days.
Lots of clouds, windy and cool today with a passing
shower in highs little sixties, even cooler the rest of
the week. That's just great. WBZ Achi Weather meteorologist Joe
(00:43):
Lundberg Memorial Day weekend looks like it's going to give
summer a cold shoulder. Coming right up. Widespread and bipartisan
support this morning for former President Joe Biden. Doctors have
told him he's got an aggressive form of prostate cancer.
We have two reports this morning, starting with ABC Selina.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Wang, Biden's spokesperson says the cancer has spread to the
bone and that while this represents a more aggressive form
of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone sensitive,
which allows for effective management. The president and his family
are reviewing treatment options. The spokesperson says the eighty two
year old was experiencing increasing urinary symptoms. Days after the announced,
(01:22):
doctors found a small nodule on the eighty two year
old's prostate.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
I'm Matt Piper. President Trump posts on social media that
he's saddened by the news, writing, Milani and I extend
our warmest and best wishes to Jill in the family,
and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery. Former
Vice President Kamala Harris writes, Joe is a fighter. We
are hopeful for a full and speedy recovery. Former President
Barack Obama says Biden will fight cancer with his trademark
(01:46):
Resolve in Grace, and that nobody has done more to
find breakthrough treatments for cancer in all its forms than Joe.
Speaker 1 (01:53):
At his CBS's Matt Piper, author of the Cancer Moonshot,
experts say this type of metastatic prostate can for mister
Biden is very treatable, but it is not curable. A
working weekend on Capitol Hill, as House Republicans reluctantly agree
to advance President Trump's Big Beautiful Bill, a budget that
slashes Medicaid funding but extends and expands massive tax cuts
(02:17):
installed during Trump's first administration. A handful of extreme right
wing Republicans say the bill still does not go far enough,
and they all vote present to help get it to
the full House floor, with promises that more cuts will
be part of the final package. The target for a
vote is by the Memorial Day holiday weekend, which is
just days away. Testimony resumes this morning at the Karen
(02:39):
Reid trial in Norfolk Superior Court. When last we met,
a crime lab expert testifies about matching DNA samples from
a broken tail light on Reid's SUV and parts of
John o'keeth's clothing. Red Sox will open a three game
series tonight at Fenway Park. They'll take on the New
York Mets, one of the hottest teams in baseball, and
Scottie Scheffler continue used to make professional golf look easy.
(03:02):
Scottish Scheffler winds in a runaway in the Showdown at Charlock.
He wins the sports second major tournament of the year,
the PGA Championship in North Carolina. It's a little cooler
than we'd like to see this time of year. It's
not exactly the kind of weather that would make January jealous,
but certainly it's more tuned to late September, perhaps early October.
(03:27):
Right now in Boston, it's still quite windy in fifty
three degrees. These clouds are starting to break for some
sunshine this morning, and we will see, however, plenty of
clouds throughout the day today. There's also a chance of
a passing shower too. That's been a theme as well,
and quite frankly, it's getting old right. Temperatures only in
the low sixties this afternoon, mostly cloudy, continued breezy overnight tonight,
(03:49):
where low's in the forties. Tomorrow, mostly cloudy, breezy, maybe
a shower or two. Highs Tomorrow won't even get to
sixty degrees. Wednesday mainly cloudy, a chili breeze persists, high
temperatures only in the low fifties, and Thursday cloudy, windy,
and chili high temperature may not get out of the
(04:10):
forties on Thursday afternoon. It's almost the unofficial kickoff to summer,
and it's far from it, or at least feels that way.
Here in Greater Boston this morning. Although the conditions are
not bad, we've got some clouds mixing with the sun.
It is fifty three but quite windy here in Boston
this Monday morning, and welcome back to reality. It's six
(04:30):
oh six. It may not be the dog days of summer,
but spring can take its toll on our forever friends.
Speaker 4 (04:36):
Doctor Keiko Bracker with the MSPA Angel Medical Center in
Boston says they actually see more dog heat stroke cases
in early spring than in summer. Pet Owners are excited
to get outside when it warms up, especially after a
long winter, but doctor Bracker says dogs haven't had time
to acclimate to the warmer temperatures. He suggests increasing how
(04:58):
long and how far you're walking, se slowly over the
course of two to three weeks and allow dogs plenty
of time to rest. If your dog starts panting heavily
or moving much more slowly, it could be experiencing heat
stress and needs a break. Also, it's allergy season and
that's for dogs too. If your dog is licking their paws,
scratching their body, developing ear infections, or sniffling, they could
(05:20):
be suffering from allergies. Sherry small WBZ, Boston's news radio.
Speaker 1 (05:25):
You hear that that's the ice cream in your freezer.
It wants out. Nearly eighteen thousand cartons of ice cream
and froyo are being voluntarily recalled by the manufacturer due
to possible listeria contamination. Wells Enterprises says better safe than
sorry in this case for nearly two dozen of its
flavors sold in three gallon tubs. This is more than
(05:47):
one hundred locations in the United States, mainly in the Midwest.
So far, no reports of any injuries or sicknesses. Boil
water orders now over for several communities in southeastern Massachusetts
this weekend elevated levels of E. Coli bacteria found in
the Abington Rockland Joint water works. The order also includes
communities served by the water plant in Pembrooke. Hanson and Whitman.
(06:09):
Officials say the problem has been detected, it's been fixed,
and is no longer necessary to bring tapwater to a
rolling boil before using it. It's still not clear how
the bacteria entered the system in the first place. Sixty
three years ago today this was ingrained in a generation's
collective memory. Happy Marilyn Monroe wishes a sultry happy Birthday
(06:42):
to President John F. Kennedy, which only fueled the fire
that the Hollywood starlet had or was still having an
affair with one or both Kennedy brothers. Monroe would be
dead just three months later from a drug overdose. President
Kennedy a year and a half later. The sequined dress
maryland Ward the performance has since been sold at auction
(07:02):
for four point eight million dollars. It is the most
expensive dress ever sold. You are now in the loop.
