Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is WBZ, Boston's news radio. We defining local.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
News seriously Monday. This is how we're going to start
the work week. Good morning, It is six o'clock and
it is a stormy Monday morning here in Boston. It
is fifty six degrees and raining here in the city.
The News at six is brought to us by your
New England Toyota Dealer, your hybrid all wheel drive headquarters.
(00:27):
Thanks for being here nonetheless on this Monday. I'm Jeff Brown.
It's a dark and stormy morning. Light windy out there today.
The strongest of the winds will be over the Cape
and islands. Love rain much signed. Some of that rain
will be heavy. WBZ aki weather Meteorologist John Thierick. We
start to dry out tomorrow. Your most reliable news source
for severe weather coverage is the WBZ Storm Center. We
(00:49):
are cranking up the storm Center in the middle of
October of all things, and things are not going all
that well at Logan Airport this morning.
Speaker 1 (00:56):
This is one of those days where folks are constantly
checking their flight status.
Speaker 3 (01:00):
Yes, I've checked probably once an hour since last night.
Speaker 1 (01:04):
How's it looking right now?
Speaker 2 (01:05):
Right now?
Speaker 3 (01:05):
I'm on time, so I'm crossing my fingers that all
continue throughout the day.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
Weather was also a big factor over the weekend, with
Massport blaming it for delays and cancelations which have continued
through today.
Speaker 4 (01:17):
But I need to go to San Francisco right now,
so I have no idea. So I hope it's not
getting constantly. So you have checked it all, I have
checked and it says on time. Oh yeah, right, no, no,
no anxiety promax.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
I'm good. Oh no, I don't want to raise at
your anxiety levels. But I guess is that a concern
whiever like you hear?
Speaker 4 (01:33):
Yes, it is on a massive fund settles and Logan's
terminal way.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
James Rojas w b Z, Boston Snooze Radio.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
Millions of Americans are affected by this nor'easter from the
Carolinas all through New England and therefore, yesterday, at the
peak of the storm, some five hundred flights were affected
at Logan Airport and we're off to a slow start
this morning. According to flight Aware, more than eighty flights
are delayed or canceled at Logan, and MIMA reports about
three one thousand power outages across the Commonwealth this morning. Well.
(02:03):
Despite the inclement weather. Today is last call for the
Topsfield Fair. WBZ S Drew Mholland joins us Drew. Why
does it have to end like this?
Speaker 5 (02:11):
I know this time it ends at a nor'easter right
after beginning of the festival, which you know, it kind
of felt like summer there for the beginning, right. The
fair does plan to be open today, will focus on
the indoor activities they offer. They closed up shop a
little early last night when this storm really kicked in.
A Hamilton man. By the way, Jeff is in custody
following the scare in one of the parking lots before
the fair opened yesterday. The all clear was quickly given.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
But that was a little wild, I guess, never a
dull moment exactly. This is certainly the case in the
two hundred and seventh Topsfield Fair.
Speaker 5 (02:40):
Officials tell me it's unclear whether they'll hit that half
a million mark.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
There has a nice benchmark for them, but of course
the weather's going to play a significant role today.
Speaker 5 (02:48):
Yeah, we'll see what they end up with.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
Drew, thank you. Today is also the two hundred and
fiftieth anniversary of the US Navy, a week long celebration
continues on and alongside the Delaware River with a ship parade,
a military fly over, and other events. The ceremonies also
coincide with the founding of the US Marine Corps and
run through Thursday of this week, and for the first
time in three years, the Patriots have a three game
(03:10):
winning streat again, going to throw.
Speaker 6 (03:12):
Towards the ensode touchdown case soon Booty with a.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
Snass McCall on CBS. Still on the road, The Patriots
will visit the Tennessee Titans this weekend. Celtics blow out
the Cavaliers in pre season basketball, and the Mariners take
Game one over the Blue Jays the American League Championship Series.
The stinks. Right in the middle of October, we're dealing
with our first nor'easter of the season. I don't know
if this bodes well for the upcoming winter or not.
(03:37):
Maybe it's just an aberration, but here it is today
with some heavy bands of rain and a high wind
warning for the Capean Islands through early this afternoon, in
a wind advisory for much of the rest of southeastern Massachusetts.
Throughout the day today, we could see gusts up to
fifty miles per hour, perhaps a little bit stronger as
these bands of activity lash us throughout the entire day Today,
(04:00):
periods of rain heavy at times throughout the entire day
and also continuing into the overnight hours. Tonight, it'll finally
come to a conclusion and begin to wind up Tomorrow.
It'll still be windy throughout the day as some drizzle
will eventually come to an end. There is a possibility
that tomorrow afternoon we start to see some sunshine. High
temperatures tomorrow only about sixty degrees, and then on Wednesday,
(04:20):
more sun returns. Highs will be in the lower sixties,
and it looks like we're in pretty decent shape for
the remainder of this abbreviated work week. Right now in
Boston on this holiday morning, we've got rain, otherwise clouds
and windy conditions. It is fifty seven here in Boston
this morning. It is six oh five on this Monday morning.
Celebrating sixty years, the head of the Charles Regatta returns
(04:43):
to the area this weekend, and it comes this time
with a warning.
Speaker 7 (04:46):
More than one hundred thousand are expected to watch. More
than eleven thousand rowers will be in the water for
the annual event. And big time tourist money maker for
the region. This year's raise comes during warnings of a
late season algae bloom. Despite warnings to stay clearing keep
pets away, the first races begin Brayden early Friday morning.
Jay will Lett WBZ Boston's news Radio.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
The government shutdown begins its thirteenth day today and nothing's
doing in Washington to bring it to an end. It is,
of course, a federal holiday, and Capitol Hill is very quiet.
Vice President j. D Vance makes the rounds on the
Sunday talk shows to say even deeper cuts are coming
and they will be painful. While President Trump has ordered
the Pentagon to look through the couch cushions and junk
(05:27):
drawers to guarantee payment to US troops, hundreds of thousands
of other government workers have either already received their last
paychecks or are about to, with no clear idea if
they'll ever get back pay. Meantime, the first four thousand
permanent firings in the federal government are underway, and the
first step to peace comes to the Middle East this morning.
(05:47):
The latest. In an update from CBS.
Speaker 1 (05:49):
News, this is what it sounded like.
Speaker 6 (05:52):
A family members spoke with one of the twenty living
now former hostages released by him Moss overnight.
Speaker 7 (05:57):
Yeah, he looks like himself. He looks like maybe tired,
maybe like overwhelmed.
Speaker 6 (06:02):
Tens of thousands of people are in Tel Aviv's Hostage
Square and every time there's news about the former hostages,
they're cheering. But they're also cheering for President Trump cb
as a Stacy Lynn.
Speaker 3 (06:14):
President Trump will address Israel's parliament shortly. Many attending this
feature donning red hats similar to his Make America Great
Again hats, but these say Trump the Peace President.
Speaker 6 (06:25):
Egypt has just confirmed the Prime Minister Benjamin Nett and
Yahoo will attend a summit today on Gaza's future. Once again.
Hamas has released the twenty remaining living hostages who are
now in Israel and at or on their way to
three hospitals in the Tel Aviv area for medical exams
and treatment. CBS News special report, I'm Peter Kids.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
Certainly a developing story. The President again is addressing the
Parliament of Israel this morning. He is off to Egypt
for a signing ceremony later on today, and details throughout
the day here at WBZ Boston's news Radio. You are
now in the loop. For news updates throughout the day.
