if you're heading out of this early.

Speaker 3 (00:20):
Hour these next few hours.

Speaker 4 (00:21):
It looks more likely now that we'll see some snow
during the Patriots game at kickoff, but by seven am,
we're still going strong here, especially to the south. South
of Boston is still where we think we're gonna get
some of those highest totals one to three inches possible,
while others north still just get that coating, that dusting
up to one inch.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
CBS News Boston meteorologist Alissa Andrews got the full four
day forecast coming up. But first our top story. Two
students dead, nine others injured in his shooting late yesterday
afternoon on the campus of Brown University in Providence. The

Speaker 5 (01:03):
Smiley, we know there's a lot of fear and anxiety
in the community right now, and we want folks to
know that while it is the case that the shelter
in place remains in effect for the broader brown community
that includes campus and the neighborhoods surrounding the campus.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
The CBS News Boston Julie McDonald now from the scene.

Speaker 6 (01:21):
It is extremely quiet in these dark neighborhoods around the
campus this morning, as that shelter in place order remains
in effect. Students who are living in residence halls have
been urged to stay inside, and families of students here
have been asked to stay away from the school campus.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
Right now.

Speaker 6 (01:39):
Police are still searching for that suspect. The entire community
remains on lockdown here as they are asking for help
from the public in identifying that person.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
Least have at least video of the suspect, who appears
to be a man in dark clothing. Providence may Or

building were unlocked yesterday because exams were taking place. The
FBI has joined the investigation. President Trump has been briefed
on the shooting. ABC's Johnny Fernandez.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
In a letter to students, the president of the university,
calling it a deeply tragic day and urging the community

Speaker 7 (02:20):
All we could do right now is pray for the
victims and for.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
Those that were very badly. Heard President Trump offering prayers
for the victims and their family.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
More than four hundred local and federal law enforcement officers
were in the area last night and into the early
hours this morning. A demonstration held yesterday in Plymouth near
the county's correctional facility. The Globe reports more than one
hundred and fifty people turned out demanding an end to
the current agreement between the Sheriff's office and ICE. Individuals

(02:54):
facing deportation are being held in the facility and are
accusing the Sheriff's office of pork ands and violating their
civil rights. The Plymouth complex is the lone remaining operation
being used by ICE in Massachusetts. Let's check the four
day wdbz ACU weather forecast and a reminder, a winter

(03:15):
weather advisory stays in effect through seven o'clock tonight for
many areas to the south and to the east of Boston.
So today it's clouds. We will see the flurries continue again.
Not a lot of snow one to three inches, especially
in the areas south of Boston, and if you are
further south down toward the cape in the islands, could

(03:37):
get three to five inches before this is done, so
just beware, not only driving but under foot it could
be a little bit slick, so beware. And temperatures will
be dropping throughout the day today as well. It's thirty
one right now, it's blustering, it's cold. Overnight tonight we
drop into the teens and then you factor in that wind,
it's going to feel more like below zero overnight tonight

(03:58):
tomorrow with sunny start than clouds, high thirty Tuesday, sun,
clouds thirty three, and then it will warm up a
little bit come Wednesday with clouds and sun and a
high forty five. So right now in the city we're
at thirty one degrees and very little wind at this
hour at six oh five. After one hundred and fifteen years,

(04:21):
the final game played last night at Matthew's Arena in
the Back Bay WBC's Kyle Bray with a look back.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
Northeastern's Matthew's Arena, formerly known as Boston Arena, has seen
many titans of sports and beyond. Brace its ice and
floors for being the first home for the Bruins and
the Celtics, to hosting the likes of presidents, Olympians and
rock stars. Richard Johnson is the curator of the sports museum,
and he tells me it's an emotional farewell.

Speaker 7 (04:44):
It's really a unicorn in American sports. Yes we have
Fenway Park, yes we have Wrigley Field, but the arena,
it's it's really unique in terms of the scope of
history that it encompasses.

Speaker 3 (04:59):
The arena is set to be demolished early next year
as Northeastern plans to build a new, updated athletic facility
on the site. Of all the historic moments at Matthew's Arena,
and it's one hundred and fifteen years of use, he says.
One that sticks out to him is when it hosted
the funeral for Northeastern and Celtics star Reggie Lewis.

Speaker 7 (05:14):
The city was united in grief. It was a remarkable
day and it took place in the arena where he
was first introduced to Boston, where he starred for Northeastern,
where he came back many times after being a Celtic star.
Giving to the community from back Bay.

Speaker 3 (05:31):
Kyle Bray WBZ, Boston's news radio.

Speaker 2 (05:34):
And last night's finale at Matthew's Arena was on the ice.
Bu rallied to beat Northeastern final score of four to three.
So we have some breaking news out of Providence. Police
now say the shelter in place has been lifted after
that shooting on the campus of Brown University yesterday. A
message on the university's website says police activity is continuing

(05:56):
in areas of the campus that are still considered active
crime scenes, and of course we'll continue to update you
as the information changes. The Boston Harbor Walk is about
to be extended. The forty three mile park and pathway
presently stretches through Dorchesters, through South Boston, the Seaport District,

(06:17):
into East Boston and the North End. The city's Planning
Department will expand the walkway into Charlestown, a long terminal
street in the Little Mystic Channel, which will create a
safer area for pedestrians to walk between Chelsea Street and
the Charlestown Athletic Fields. Mass Live reports when the Harbor
Walk is completed, it will stretch close to fifty miles

(06:37):
between East Boston and the Neponset River. In Dorchester. You
are now in the loop or news updates throughout the day.
