Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is WBZ, Boston's news radio, redefining local news. See
practice does make perfect. And it's already Thursday morning here
in Boston, and it looks like a gorgeous sunrise underway
right now here in the city. We're waking up under
clear skies and forty two degrees and much less wind

(00:23):
this morning as well. Thanks for being here. The News
at six has brought to us by your new England
Toyota dealer, your hybrid all wheel drive headquarters. I'm Jeff Brown,
as we dial up a winner. A nice day today
with lots of sunshine. It will be breezy, and it
will turn milder with highs nearing sixty at a WZ
Achi weather meteorologist Joe Lundberg. Mid sixties tomorrow, how about
mid seventies still in the cards for Saturday. Red Sox

(00:45):
get out of Tampa by the hairs on their chinny
ch engines. Why shut into.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
The corner down to Lakefield Line.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
Hit the.

Speaker 1 (00:54):
Call on, nesson and that's all it took. Red Sox
won nothing winners. They are off today, back at Fenway
Park for a weekend series beginning tomorrow. Bruins ownership addresses
the elephant in the room and promises to bring the
team back to its winning ways starting next year. New
surveys show you win some, you lose some. The most
recent polls of American voters reveal that President Trump's immigration

(01:16):
policies are a hit, while his tariff policies are not.
Recent counts from you gov, the Associated Press, and Quinnipiac
show falling approval ratings overall, but as tariffs become a
liability for the White House, about half of adults approve
of the administration's handling of undocumented immigrants. Star witnesses continue
to take the stand as the federal government continues to

(01:38):
try to prove that Meta Platforms is playing monopoly. CEO
Mark Zuckerberg wraps up two and a half days of
testimony in the FTCs antitrust lawsuit against the social media company,
followed by former COO Sheryl Sandberg next up, a co
founder of Facebook. The FTC says the billion dollar buyouts
of WhatsApp and Instagram were blatant attempts to stifle competition

(02:01):
in a buy or bury strategy. While Zuckerberg and Sandberg
maintained the deals were made made complete business sense to
build the company behind Facebook. Well it sounded good on paper,
but then again, you know what they say about once
bitten twice shy. The Fire Festival is now a no go.
Wbz's Drew mo'holland is here. We kind of saw I

(02:23):
thought this was coming.

Speaker 4 (02:24):
Yeah, you didn't buy your tickets, did you?

Speaker 1 (02:26):
I did not.

Speaker 4 (02:26):
I told you to be careful, did I not?

Speaker 1 (02:28):
You did? Okay?

Speaker 4 (02:29):
Organizers have postponed the second version of the ill fated
Fire Festival, set for next month in Mexico. Billy McFarlane,
who did prison time for wire fraud after failing to
pull off a Fire Festival one in the Bahamas eight
years ago, says a new date we'll be announced in
the future. Oh good for now. Refunds for tickets that
started at fourteen hundred dollars Jeffrey and someone into the

(02:50):
millions are available, so that's good. Refunds.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
Just want a cheese sandwich, That's all. Is that too
much to ask? Fire Festival one delicacy is thank you, Drew?
Is there life out there? You bet?

Speaker 2 (03:02):
Jam?

Speaker 5 (03:03):
Astrophysicist at Cambridge University say they've detected two gases associated
with life on a watery world one hundred and twenty
four light years away from Earth. This is one of
the longest standing questions in the history of science.

Speaker 2 (03:15):
Are we alone and what we may be seeing the
first signs of being able to answer that question.

Speaker 5 (03:21):
Team leader Niku Matusudan says it'll take another year or
two of observations to confirm the findings. Ficky Barker, CBS News, London.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
Pretty decent look in morning in Boston. Nice sunrise, sunrise
officially at six o'clock this morning, and we're in pretty
decent shape out the door. Much less winds today right
now and overall today as well, forty two degrees for
the moment. It is going to be breezy today, but
it won't be the whipping winds we experienced just yesterday.
High temperatures approach sixty. This is going to be a

(03:49):
nice overall day, clear skies over or overnight tonight with
lows dropping down to around forty looks like sun mixes
with clouds Tomorrow, even milder into the mid sixties, and
we're still jill looking at mid seventies for high temperatures
on Saturday afternoon, and in inland locations it might be
close enough to say it's eighty degrees, and that would
be the warmest we've seen in several months here in

(04:12):
Boston coming up this weekend. Even Easter Sunday looks like
it's going to be pretty decent too, with breezy conditions
and some sunshine. Highs will be in the mid sixties.
Of course, the long range forecast also points to Marathon Monday,
and it looks like it's going to be a mostly
cloudy day, which is a good thing for thousands of
runners on the road from Hopkinson to Boston, but there

(04:32):
is a chance of some late day showers moving into
the area. Temperatures also will cooperate mainly in the fifties
and maybe around sixty on Monday. Right now in Boston
it's forty two degrees and clear skies at six oh
five on this Thursday morning. Painters will arrive on Boylston
Street in Boston this morning to outline the finish line
for Monday's marathon. The city is also getting ready for

(04:53):
more changes along the marathon routes. You'll be noticing fewer
and fewer flex posts for bike lanes along the marathon route.
The city his Transportation Department is removing them to make
way for those running the Boston five k this weekend
and the marathon on Monday. This is happening along several
streets including Boyleston, Arlington and Beacon Cones are being set
up as a temporary measure except during the actual events.

(05:15):
All flex posts removed by tomorrow will be restored in
most places by next week. On Boyleston Street, James Rojas
w b Z Boston'snoos Radio last minute motions in the
Karen Reid case in Norfolk Superior Court concerned witnesses and
the controversial blogger known as Turtle Boy steals the show.
Aiden Kearney, a noted Reed's supporter, is accused himself of

(05:37):
witness intimidation in his coverage of the Reed murder case.
He tells the court that he will plead the fifth
if called as a witness. Prosecutors say they will not
call him to the stand. The judge says says Kearney
will be allowed inside the courtroom to cover the trial,
but will be ordered out when those who are connected
to his case take the stand. In Reid's case, which

(05:57):
begins with opening statements on too day, Boston School Committee
approves a new city contract with public school teacher His.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
New one hundred and eighty million dollar deal, ratified earlier
this month, calls for raises for teachers and pair of professionals,
and improves resources for disabled students. The vote unanimous. The
city Council has yet to weigh in on the new
contract agreement, which was reached following a year of negotiations.
Jay Willett WBZ, Boston's news.

where Wilson Samon is co owner.

Speaker 4 (06:35):
He can don't go leave like he went much of money,
and he's like, oh, finally I'm off the street.

Speaker 1 (06:40):
I wasn't very happy for him.

Speaker 5 (06:41):
