This is WBZ, Boston's news radio, redefining local news. I
just relax, people. I hate to break it to you,
but it's Thursday here in Boston and we're going to
start it under mainly clear skies and the chili breeze
is blowing this morning. Temperature is mainly in the forties
(00:21):
in and around town. Here in Boston, it's forty eight degrees.
Good to be with you at six o'clock this Thursday morning.
It is brought to you by your new England Toyota dealer,
your hybrid all wheel drive headquarters. I'm Jeff Brown, and
fellow Coke closets.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
We'll have sun giving way to us the minerals of clowns,
especially on the Capean Islands where there can be some
drizzle this afternoon.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
The height today only fifty five. That is WBZ afiweather
meteorologist Heather's are nice stretch of weather really is going
to take us through the entire weekend. The sit go
sign in Boston is on the move.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
I view and the appropriate site lines for this really
iconic symbol of Boston would be protected.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
But it's not going far. Comments from Boston Mayor Michelle
wu A redevelopment project in ken Moore Square will ultimately
relocate this sign, putting it thirty feet higher and more
than one hundred feet east from its current location. It's
all part of a redevelopment project at the SITCO Signs
Home atop six to sixty Beacon Street. No word on
a relocation date. Celtics win their final preseason game with
(01:22):
a buzzer beater against Toronto at the Garden. The games
begin for real, starting Wednesday night against the seventy six Ers.
The Blue Jays bounce back dominate the Mariners. They take
a Game three win in the American League Championship Series
in Seattle. The NLCS continues tonight in Dodger Stadium, and
Week seven in the NFL kicks off tonight. It's the
Steelers and Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday Night football Road to Nowhere.
(01:45):
On the North Shore, inspections begin today following the sudden
shutdown of a key bridge on Route one oh seven
on the Lynn Saugust Line after engineers find a crack
in one of the bridge's trusses. Detours are in effect
for what is being called an indefinite closure. Massachusetts Highway
official say it's down for the count for at least
the next couple of weeks, making life difficult for some
(02:07):
fifteen thousand drivers who use that bridge on a daily basis.
Sidewalks will remain open for bicycles and pedestrians, and official
say there will be no effect to marine traffic using
the drawbridge portion of that span. I hate to be
the bearer of bad news, but sunsets reaches another milestone
today wbcas Drew moholland is here. Go ahead, Andrew.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
It's like a sure sign that winter's coming. Right. The
countdown is onto the last of the six pm sunsets
arriving tonight. We just got a little more than a
eleven hours of daylight now yep. Later this week sunrise
will happen at seven am or later until we turn
the clocks back in our next month. It's all part
of the process that leads us to the shortest day
(02:50):
of the year in December, when the sunsets around. Deep breath, everybody,
four fifteen.
Speaker 1 (02:56):
Wow. Yeah, you know what I'm taking from this though.
I'm taking from this that we're getting an extra hour
of sleep next month. Yeah, that's what that amounts to.
Speaker 3 (03:08):
I don't sleep anyway, so I prefer the longer wha
wham or sun please later.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
By the way, sunrise is at six point fifty nine
this morning. It is a beautiful start to the day
for the most part. We've got a bit of a breeze,
so it's a little chilly here in the area. We're
seeing readings mainly in the forties this morning, but don't
be surprised to see your dashboard thermometer indicate we're in
the thirties, because we are seeing a couple of those
south on the a Cape and Islands this morning. We're
still in the fifties, so not bad there. All things considered,
(03:35):
this is going to be a typical mid kind of
fall day today with sunshine and breezy conditions. Highs will
only top out in the mid fifties this afternoon, mainly clear,
dropping into the thirties and forties for much of the
area overnight Tonight tomorrow, more sunshine and a little bit warmer,
with the high approaching sixty degrees. It looks like this
good weather is going to stretch right through the weekend,
(03:55):
with high temperatures mainly in the sixties and mostly sunny skies.
We do have our next chance of rain coming up
to kick off the work week on Monday. Right now
in Boston, it is forty eight degrees here in the city,
six out six this Thursday morning. Ready or not? Retirement
is coming, and by the looks of it, we're not ready.
Speaker 4 (04:12):

next two decades, with the nation's senior community expected to
grow some forty percent.
Speaker 1 (04:19):
A very good thing.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
But the problem is you're not prepared. And you're not prepared,
you're in trouble.
Speaker 4 (04:26):
Which is the prevailing theme of the study, which focuses
not just on finances, which is a significant factor, but
also examines healthcare, social lives, housing, in day to day living.
Speaker 1 (04:36):
I think we've planned for this.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
We'll see how it goes.
Speaker 4 (04:40):

New survey this morning tells kids it's time to adult adulthood.
Speaker 2 (04:58):
Uh oh boy, when's that moment you feel like you
finally graduated from childhood and officially feel like an adult?
For Paula, it was the shiny ring on her finger.
I guess when you get married, because actually we got
married like two weeks ago, so now we're adults. I guess.
But she's not the majority. Recently, AT and T surveyed
over two thousand adults. Seventy six percent of them said
the ultimate sign of adulthood is saying goodbye to mom
(05:19):
and dad's phone plan.
Speaker 4 (05:20):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (05:20):
I did that a long time ago.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
It, Barry, feels like adulthood is more of a mental state.
I had the money to pay my parents back for
the phone plan, and I did it. Then that makes
me not According to a survey by Whistleout, she's a
part of the one in five adults who are still

ranking more than a decade ago. For the US Passport,
