Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is WBZ, Boston's news radio, redefining local news.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Good morning, six o'clock, but you might want to go
right back to bed. It is not a very good
start to the day. We've got a lot of rain
and heavy at times here in Boston this morning. It
is mild at sixty three degrees as we get started together.
The news at six is brought to us by your
New England Toyota Dealer, your hybrid all wheel drive headquarters.
Thanks for being with us on this Thursday morning. I'm
Jeff Brown. All right, not your best.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
Boston cloudye and humid today. It'll become breezy with periods
of rain in a thunderstorm. Some of the rain will be.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
Heavy outs WBZ AKI weather meteorologist Joe Lundberg will get
into the lower seventies throughout the course of the day today.
It will be clearing out though later on tonight. The
US Post Office is singing a new tune this morning.
The Postal Service says it will not raise the price
of stamps at its next opportunity in January, even though
it remains a money losing agency. The most recent seven

(01:00):
percent increase brought the price of a first class stamp
to seventy eight cents this summer. Post Office officials say
they will take another look at their pricing by the
middle of next year. Food delivery app Is it worth
the cost?

Speaker 3 (01:13):
There's no question food delivery apps. They can be convenient,
sometimes too much so.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
And you get used to them.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
There's a problem.

Speaker 4 (01:20):
Then my daddy as all she does.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
That's not all, according to a new survey which details
the significant markups charged by third party apps such as
door Dash and grub hub and uberies, in some cases
sixty to seventy percent higher than the cost of just
going and picking up the food yourself.

Speaker 5 (01:36):
I'll not they can afford it.

Speaker 3 (01:37):
So The findings are based off of a thirty three
dollars order at Mcdauney's in one hundred different cities. At
the restaurant, but with the delivery it was an excess
of sixty bucks.

Speaker 4 (01:47):
Oh waschia?

Speaker 2 (01:47):
How can you afford that?

Speaker 1 (01:48):
That's a whole a nother meal?

Speaker 3 (01:50):
Wow, Chris Mom a WBZ Boston's news radio.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
I'm sorry, was that Rodney Dangerfield there? We'll take a
closer look later. Jimmy Kimmel's returned Late Night shatters ratings records.
This was a sick person who believed violence was a solution,
and it isn't it ever. Nielsen Raidings say an unheard
of six point three million viewers tuned in to his

(02:16):
broadcast this week, which is four times the average nightly viewership,
and it's more impressive since the network's two largest affiliates
chose not to air his return, blocking traditional coverage across
some twenty percent of the country. Fifteen million more also
watched on YouTube, and millions of additional viewers caught up
with Jimmy Kimmel on social media. This week another Red

(02:37):
Sox win, and it's conceivable now that the Socks could
clinch an American League playoff spot before they even take
the field tonight in Toronto. It is also conceivable that
the Socks might play the Blue Jays in the wild
Card round in Toronto next week. Fingers crossed Now, with
the loss to the Socks and a Yankees win, New
York and Toronto are now tied for the American League

(02:58):
East lead, and the hot Seattle Mariners have clinched their
fourth American League West title.

Speaker 4 (03:04):
Well.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
This Shorefire Hall of Famer techs off another item on
the bucket list.

Speaker 4 (03:08):
North Carolina football head coach Bill Belichick and his girlfriend
Jordan Hudson, New England native, gracing the cover of the
brand new issue of US Weekly that just dropped this week.
The title of their cover story, who is the real
Jordan Hudson and is also the picture on the cover
they took together at the latest NFL Awards ceremony. One

(03:28):
interesting note out of this cover story a source close
to Bill who told the publication that it's quote highly
unlikely Bill and Jordan will be getting married. Hudson has
been seen on the sidelines this year and heavily involved
in Bill's current tenure as the UNC head coach. Jim
McKay WBZ, Boston's news radio.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
Most of the rainfall this morning is on Boston's north
shore and through much of New Hampshire. This morning. A
good portion of Massachusetts in the eastern portion as well
as through central mass appears to be dry and especially
on the south shore. But it's cloudy and it's damp
either way, and it's mild too. Sixty three right now
in the city. We are in for it today with

(04:08):
times of downpours on the way through the daylight hours,
and temperatures will get into the lower seventies by the
time the system moves through, it is conceivable that a
lot of areas will see a couple of inches of precipitation,
will start to wring ourselves out tonight, and then some
clearing skies gradually in the overnight hours. Tomorrow. Looks like
a couple of clouds will linger and maybe a couple

(04:29):
of rain drops as well before emerging sunshine is apparent.
High temperature is very warm, nearing eighty degrees, and it
looks like the timing couldn't be better for the weekend too,
with the mix of clouds and sun on both Saturday
and Sunday, with highs once again in the seventies on
the first weekend of fall right now sixty three, and
a little bit of rain, some of it heavy, especially
on the north shore this morning. It's six oh six

(04:50):
on this Thursday. One of the best places to live
on the East coast of the US, turns out, is
right in our own backyard.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
You can't ignore a Gloucester's iconic beaches and beautiful home
so which range from grand shingle style mansions to cozy
cottages and houses. But Eleanora Tucker, born and raised here
believes the community is why the city came in third
on travel in Leisure's top ten best places to live
on the East Coast.

Speaker 6 (05:13):
We had this beautiful, beautiful landscape that we live in.

Speaker 1 (05:18):
That's not the only beauty.

Speaker 4 (05:20):
Used to city.

Speaker 5 (05:21):
It's the people.

Speaker 1 (05:22):
The people are the best, and that's why I think
people come back. Real estate experts agree, saying the city
is a vibrant, tight knit, and refreshingly diverse community. Charleston,
South Carolina, came in as the best place to live
on the East Coast, followed by Alexandria, Virginia in Gloucester.
James Rojas w b Z, Boston Snows Radio.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
Hollywood icon William Shapner is resting comfortably and in Los
Angeles hospital this morning after being rushed in from his
LA home. The ninety four year old actor called nine
to one one himself for a medical emergency, which turned
out to be related to high levels of blood sugar. Shatner,
Captain Kirk of Star Trek fame to a certain generation

(06:03):
and a voice and host on the History Channel for Another,
has dealt with health problems in recent years and is
being traded for stage four melanoma. He has also been
affected by tonight as a constant ringing in the years
that stems to the nineteen sixties from an on set
mishap while performing on Star Trek. She was once a
good luck charm in college basketball's March Madness, and now

(06:25):
she is heading to life's sidelines. Wbz's Drew Mholland has details.
Good morning Andrew, Good morning Jeffrey.

Speaker 5 (06:31):
Yes, sister Jean is retiring at one hundred and six
years young. She deserves it right. The Catholic Nun was
a viral video sensation in twenty eighteen, sitting on the
sidelines to Cheiron the upstart, loyalist Chicago Ramblers on the
road to a final four seed with upsets along the way.

Speaker 6 (06:48):
I want to thank everybody who had part of this,
and I keep saying, you know, the Ramblers are on
their way, and I hope we continue, but we always
do one game at a time.

Speaker 5 (06:59):
Now, that's just good coaching, right, That's what it is.

Speaker 2 (07:02):
