to getting rid of some of this hot and humid conditions. However,
it's not going to be today.

It'll be hot and humid today with some sunshine and
highs above ninety, but watch for some showers and thunderstorms tonight.

Speaker 1 (00:44):

things off in the days ahead. We'll get some more
on that in the four day forecast coming up here
in just a few moments. But first off to Texas,
where the death toll and flood ravaged central part of
the state is now topped one hundred. Dozens are still

emergency notification system, but they also include inquiries about why
the rains were so dangerous. Well, it's the real life jaws,
just on the other island. A bit of a smaller shark.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
A man who caught a shark is bitten while releasing
it back into the Atlantic. The Nantucket Current reports the
twenty one year old was trying to free the beach
shark back into the water, wrestling with it in the
shallows near Hoicks Hollow Sunday, when the sandbar shark turned
around and gave a parting chump to his leg. Video

Red Sox welcoming in one of the worst teams, in fact,
the worst team in baseball, the Colorado Rockies at Fenway
Park and one of the youngsters stepping up big last night.

Speaker 4 (02:29):
That's back this way, way way back and.

Speaker 1 (02:32):
Monster shots the Roman Anthony and the call from Nessenaire
is the Red Sox win nine to three, the first
home run at Fenway for young Roman Anthony, one of
the prize prospects of Major League Baseball and he's off
to pretty good start in his Red Sox career. Both
teams back at it once again as that series continues
over at Fenway. Looking at cloudy skies here as we're

(02:53):
getting started, but another hot, human and steamy morning out there.
Once again, that heat is going to subside. Just have
to wait a little while today we're gonna get up
to a high of ninety. We have another heat advisory
in effect. We'll get some relief later on with some
showers and thunderstorms'll be rolling into town, washing away a
lot of this heat. And for tomorrow, a much more

(03:13):
comfortable day now, for we have lows into the upper
sixties four tonight, high around seventy three four tomorrow, and
we could see a passing shower or two. We're basically
in the same deal on Thursday, with more chances of
showers and thunderstorms, and then by Friday we're gonna have
highs back into the mid seventies once again. So we're
feeling more comfortable as we make our way throughout the week,

(03:34):
But your Tuesday is going to be another hot and
steamy one out there, seventy six degrees. Right now. In Boston,
it is six oh five layoffs hitting Boston University, all
in an effort to save money. CBS News Boston's Logan
Hall with the very latest.

Speaker 5 (03:48):
As a part of a plan to cut the overall
budget by five percent in the school laid off one
hundred and twenty BU employees and eliminated one hundred and
twenty vacant positions. As for the overall impact, there's still
a lot of uncertainty around these cut We don't know
the percentages.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
I mean, they mentioned another twenty that they're going to,
you know, change their schedule, which I assume, you know,
maybe cut them to part time.

Speaker 5 (04:07):
Austin University President Melissa Gilliam said the move was essential
to address financial headwinds, saying in a statement, quote, this
is a day of loss for all of us. There's
no way around this. We know our community may need
time to adjust to these difficult changes, yet it is
also a necessary step in ensuring our future.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
And also there's no word to changes on tuition in
light of the cutbacks. As well, some three hundred students
at Harvard signing an open letter urging school leadership to
stand firm and defending their principles when it comes to
the negotiations with the Trump administration on a number of issues,
including ridding the campus of anti Semitism and changing their

(04:43):
overall campus culture. The President has said the White House
is negotiating with Harvard and closing in on a deal
that would quote be mind bogglingly historic. Harvard has seen
hundreds of millions of dollars in funding pulled from the
federal government over not bending to the demands of changing
their campus go culture. Meantime, MIT is saying they're working
with state and federal authorities investigating recent graffiti that was

(05:05):
sprayed on university buildings over the weekend, including a message
that referenced the Israeli Defense Forces Death to the IDF.
Was sprayed on the entrance doors of the Status Center,
MIT's Computer Science and AI Lab building. It is now
six ZHO seven. Once a week some crafters gather at
the Complete Branch of the Boston Public Library to niche

(05:27):
and discuss the news.

Speaker 4 (05:29):
This program is called Unraveling the News, a knitting and
crochet conversation circle. It's hosted by Erica Houston, the library
is media and journalism specialist.

Speaker 6 (05:38):
It's an opportunity for people to come together and create
community with fellow crafters and then also to stay informed
on current events.

Speaker 4 (05:49):
They do that by listening to a news related podcast
and then talking about it. It's sort of a current
events sewing circle. One of the participants, Judy Taccharad, says
it's been a valuable experience.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
It's really expanded in my capacity beyond the library and
to learn how people learn and get information.

Speaker 6 (06:08):
So it's been very valuable that way.

Speaker 4 (06:09):
From the Copley Branch of the Library, Carl Stevens WBC
