Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is WBZ, Boston's news radio, redefining local news. All right,
let's get this autumn party started at six am, no less.
Good morning. It is sixty one degrees, clear skies for
the moment here in Boston. Changes on the way. The
news at six brought to us by your New England

(00:22):
Toyota Dealer, your hybrid all wheel drive headquarters. It's good
to be with you on this Tuesday morning. I'm Jeff Brown.
It's all in a full day, a fall. Some sunshine
will give a way to increasing clouds. Today it will
become warmer and more human.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
There can be a late day shower or thunderstorm. The
high eighty two.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
That is w b Z Achi weather meteorologist Joe Lundberg.
The new season also features several chances of rain coming
up this week. Let's put up or shut up time
for the Red Sox, who begin the final week of
the regular season tonight still with a grip on the
American League playoffs. The Socks will visit Toronto for a
three game set against the Blue Jays. First pitch at
seven oh seven tonight. Bruins Rangers in PC's in hockey

(01:00):
tonight at Madison Square Garden, and a Monday night football
slugfest as the Lions outlast the Ravens to bring Week
three in the NFL to a close. Officials in Swampscott
they're pumping the brakes on rats.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
A company that specializes in past control says two canoodling
rats can become fifteen thousand in just one year. That's
why the town of Swampscott is partnering with Evolve Censtech,
which manages rat populations with rodent birth control as opposed
to traditional poisons. This is part of a pilot program
that's in response to a town wide rat problem. Now,

(01:33):
coexisting with rats is just a fact of life, but
the town says they're mainly here because of human activities,
so we also need to modify our own habits to
reduce their numbers in Swampscatt. James Rojas wb Z Boston's
Snooze Radio.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
He's back.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
From It's Jimmy.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
ABC, green lights Jimmy Kimmel's return to late night TV
tonight and lift the late night talk shows indefinite suspension
after less than one week. Jokes about the assassination of
Charlie Kirk put Kimmel in hot water in the first place,
when the top ABC affiliates in the nation demanded that
they'd drop the show, and a follow up threat from
the FCC about punishments for Kimmel and the network would

(02:17):
be forthcoming. Officials with ABC say the decision to bring
Kimmel back comes after days of thoughtful discussion. Jimmy Kimmel
Live returns tonight, but dozens of stations with the Sinclair
Broadcast Group, its largest affiliate, will not run that show.
Times are getting tougher for cash strapped Spirit Airlines, which
plans to furlough some eighteen hundred flight attendants before the

(02:39):
end of this year. The company says this is a
difficult decision, even though the CEO previously told Wall Street
this was coming. The airline is coming off its second
bankruptcy filing in less than a year and has already
cut back twenty five percent of its flight schedule this fall,
and the going gets tough. But the tough don't get
going at the airports in Europe, Denmark and Norway.

Speaker 3 (02:59):
We're forced to close their main airports for four hours
overnight after multiple drone sightings, with Danish police saying the
drones were likely flown by a quote capable actor, neither
confirming nor denying that those actors might be Russian. This
is disruption at London, Berlin and Brussels airports continues for
a fourth full day following a cyber attack on check

(03:22):
in software. Vicki Barker, CBS News, London.

Speaker 1 (03:24):
Change in seasons means a change in our weather fortunes
coming up. We're going to start on the right notes
this morning with some sunshine to begin. It's sixty one
right now, not as cold as it has been the
past couple of nights. Very mild night overnight in much
of the Greater Boston area, and this is going to
be the warmest day of the week two, with high
temperatures getting into the lower eighties. So here's what we
expect today. Some sunshine to begin, some clouds on the

(03:46):
increase by noontime today and through the afternoon. Could be
a scattered shower later on in the day, but again
those high temperatures will be in the eighties. Now. It
looks like the first few days of autumn will feature
several chances for rain coming up, and we do need
the rain. That includes tomorrow with a couple of showers,
high temperatures will be right around seventy degrees, a better

(04:07):
chance for rain more widespread on Thursday with the possibility
of thunderstorm. Highs will be in the low seventies, and
even on Friday, clouds with a couple of showers in
play as well, highs approaching eighty once again on Friday.
Looks like right now we might dry out in time
for the weekend. Right now in Boston, relatively clear skies
and sixty one just ahead of sunrise here in the

(04:28):
city on this Tuesday morning at six oh six, it
is a drop the mic moment for college campuses in
New England.

Speaker 4 (04:34):
US News and World Report is out with their twenty
twenty six rankings for the top colleges and universities, with
Harvard rounding out the top three MIT and Second Princeton
taking home that number one spot. When it comes to
the best national liberal arts colleges, the top two spots
go to Commonwealth schools, Williams College coming in at number one,
with their mersed at number two. Wellesley College was tied

(04:57):
for seven. The publication uses seventeen measures of act ademic
quality and graduate success to compile their rankings. Jim McKay
WBZ Boston's news Radio.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
Federal judge orders the Trump administration to restore half a
billion dollars in federal funding grants to UCLA. The judge
says the White House order to strip the school of
that money came with no explanation and under the appearance
of civil rights violations. The government shielded the move behind
claims of anti Semitic policies on campus. The freeze, the

(05:27):
judge says, broke the law and put cancer and Parkinson's
disease research at risk. Former Vice President Kamala Harris's Tell
All book is out today one hundred seven days, highlights
her time on the presidential campaign trail after former President
Joe Biden dropped out. In an interview with Rachel Maddow
and MSNBC, Harris says she regrets not being more vocal

(05:48):
about concerns that she and others had about mister Biden's
plans to run for a second term. Harris, whose put
her political ambitions on hold for now, has previously blamed
herself for recklessness at lee to Biden's re election campaign.
Comments from the head of the FED following the Central
banks first rate cut of the year, Federal Reserve Chairman

(06:08):
Jerome Powell will offer his two cents on monetary policy
in the United States, with a visit to Rhode Island
and an address at the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce
in Warwick later today. You are now in the loop
for news updates throughout the day. Listen to WBZ News
Radio on the iHeartRadio app. I'm Jeff Brown, WBZ, Boston's
news radio.
