Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is WBZY, Boston's news radio, redefining local news.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
Twenty six degrees, mostly clear skies in Boston, feeling like
twelve at six o'clock on this New Year's Eve, Wednesday morning,
December thirty. First, This hour of news brought to you
by your New England Toyota dealer, your hybrid all wheel
drive headquarters. Good morning, Happy New Year. I'm Jim McKay,
and here's what's happening. Yeah, we're still trying to thiw

(00:31):
out from Tuesday's deep freeze. And oh yeah, by the way,
the rest of New Year's Eve and the rest of
twenty twenty five, we're gonna be freezing our butts off.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
We'll see clouds and some sunshine today with behind the
mid thirty some snow later tonight. Canicula it colding you
an inch around the area.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
And that is WBZ acur weather meteorologist Joe Lundberg once
again freezing cold as we head off into the overnight hours,
and we could have a couple of inches of snow
on the ground by tomorrow morning. Meantime, those New Year's
Eve cell rations Boston set to go big. Wbz's James
Rojas talking to people this morning to see what they're
up to later on.

Speaker 3 (01:07):
Ringing in the new year with a bang. First night,
Boston is bringing out all the stops, including fireworks, a parade,
and music. Now those spirits will be high, temperatures will
be low.

Speaker 4 (01:18):
So bring either hot hands or if you're a woman,
those fast flats they kind of like fold in half
because then they're easy to switch in and out of
on your if you go out if you want to
wear heels, and it's.

Speaker 3 (01:31):
Called the bars and nightclubs will also be packed. So
for these guys, their best advice.

Speaker 5 (01:36):
Soldick and John ao Uber will always save you more
in the.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
Long run literally, or take public transportation, which the MBTA
is making easier by going fair free after a PM
for the T bus, ferry, shuttle service and commuter rail
in Chinatown. James Rojas WBZ Boston's News radio.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
And we continue now at six. So two Patriots fans
weren't expecting a controversy, but they certainly have got one.
The reaction continues to pour in as Wide receiver Stefan
Diggs facing felony strangulation and misdemeanor assault and battery charges
stemming from an incident in Denham earlier this month. Patriots

(02:17):
fans are reacting to the news as star player and
team leader for the surging division champs finds himself in
legal hot water just ahead of.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
A playoff push.

Speaker 5 (02:25):
I think it's something you're concerned about, but I think
the Patriots are skinning by him, so off skinned by
him until otherwise obviously disappointed, frustrated.

Speaker 3 (02:33):
It's not all you want to see from a human standpoint,
and also so late in the season's not good for
the team.

Speaker 4 (02:39):
Diggs is scheduled to be arraigned on these charges on Friday,
January twenty third, just two days before the AFC Championship game.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
CBS News Boston's Aaron Parsigian reporting now, the Patriots say
the support Diggs and are cooperating with the investigation. His
attorney out with a very strong statement denying all the
allegation against Diggs, and again we are expected to hear
from Patriots head coach Mike Rabel later today. Should be
interesting to see how he answers to some of those questions.

(03:09):
As we continue to track all this cold weather, it's
going to be much like it was yesterday out there,
gusty wins and temperatures feeling like the single digits. The
only real change in the forecast. We've got a little
bit of snowfall in the overnight hours, could have a
bit of a dusting to potentially one to two inches
in greater Boston points south. That actually looks like is

(03:30):
where we're going to get the most snowfall. It's not
going to be a significant amount, but there is the
potential of one to three maybe even two to four
on different parts of the Cape and the islands later tonight.
So that snow, by the way, is most likely going
to be taking place in the early morning hours tomorrow,
so it'll be after the midnight hour, and then for
the rest of the week, maybe that snow will stay

(03:51):
on the ground. Because we're in the twenties and thirties,
it's going to be awfully cold all the way through
the first weekend of twenty twenty six. We're at twenty
six right now in Boston, feeling like twelve that six
oh six. And speaking of that cold weather, how much
you like to ride your bike in what we're feeling

(04:12):
right now, Well, a lot of us do, those of
us who get around on two wheels.

Speaker 6 (04:16):
The twenties with the brutal Cross when isn't exactly what
most people consider prime biking weather. But Pierre Payette is
still bike seven miles to work today.

Speaker 5 (04:23):
Yeah. So it's basically hands, feet and the head. I
like the real troublesome areas.

Speaker 6 (04:30):
The owner of Ferris Wheels bike shop in JP says
the key is to come prepared. There's a small but
dedicated community of bikers that take to the streets in
all weather in Boston, and he says the key on
ds like this is to wear layers. For him, that's
two pairs of gloves, of bottaclava and a neck warmer.
He says, road treatments can really mess up your ride.

Speaker 5 (04:45):
Yeah, so is pretty rough. It'll you know, take the
paint off, It'll corrode things, It'll rust them.

Speaker 6 (04:52):
Which is why he recommends having a cheap second bike
you don't care much about for bad weather. I asked
what made him ride today?

Speaker 5 (04:57):
I mean, I think the best motivation is like not
having like in traffic.

Speaker 6 (05:01):
Kyles Schaffle WBZ, Boston's news Radio.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
We continue now at six to ZHO seven more potential
ballot questions for next year's election certified by Secretary of
State Bill Galvin's office, bringing the total number to nine
thus far, with two more still being processed by the
January seventh deadline.

Speaker 1 (05:18):
It looks at this point it's going to be a
very full ballot in twenty twenty six, with many questions
before the voters, unless the legislature takes action well.

Speaker 2 (05:26):
If lawmakers vote on a particular question themselves, it will
not appear on the ballot. FIFA president is continuing to
defend the high cost of next year's World Cup tickets,
arguing demand far how weighs the supply.

Speaker 1 (05:41):
The twenty twenty six World Cup will be hosted by
the United States, Canada and Mexico, and group stage tickets
are three times the cost of the twenty twenty two tournament.
In cutter In, Fantino said on Monday that there are
six to seven million tickets for sale and that one
hundred and fifty million requests were made in the first
fifteen days. In an effort to address prices, FIFAZ made

(06:01):
a small number of cheaper tickets available for all one
hundred and four matches. I'm Marknefield.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
You are now in the loop. For news updates throughout
