Speaker 1 (00:00):
A good guy from Kansas City, Karington Harrison from ninety
six point five to the fan in case c join
us right here, give them a follow on social media
for all your great content at see dot Herrings, Harrinson, Karens.
I'm just gonna starw off with this. What has gone
wrong over the last thirteen weeks for the Kansas Chiefs
to where it feels like, mister, the playoffs is not

(00:22):
just a possibility, it's almost a reality.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Well, I don't want to take up the rest of
you guys show, so I'll try to just summarize it here.

Speaker 3 (00:30):
In a quick airgraph.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
I would say the two things have gone wrong for
the Chiefs. Number one, it's been passed Russ. The Chiefs
haven't had a sack in eleven quarters. I don't care
how good of a team you are. If you can't
disrupt timing from the other team's quarterback, that's going to
cause a problem. So that's been number one. I would
say Number two is last year the Chiefs were the best.
It's five minutes left in the game, it's a tie

(00:52):
ball game. The Chiefs won eleven to zero in one
score games last year. They were the best finishers the
best closers in the league last year.

Speaker 3 (01:00):
They haven't been that this year.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
It's been the exact opposite. I've been making the analogy
on my show. It's like, you know, when you play roulette.
Let's say you only play colors and you play Red,
and just Red keeps hitting and keep hitting and keeps hitting. Well,
now it's turned the other way. Now Black continues to hit,
and now the Chiefs have kind of found themselves on
the other side of the spectrum. So I would say
those have been the two big things. I would say
their inability to close in games and their inabilities to

(01:22):
get to the other team's quarterback. Those have been the
two things that.

Speaker 3 (01:25):
Have done them.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
Inn and Carrington.

Speaker 4 (01:27):
I mean, it seems like they've got to go five
for five to even have a chance to make the playoffs.
I mean, you've got Patrick Mahomes, you got a shot.
You got Andy Reid, you got a shot. But I mean,
for everything you just mentioned right there, does it kind
of feel like I mean, that's just too much of
a daunting task even for those two guys to be
able to overtake.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
I mean, I have them losing this week to the
Houston Texans. I really like the way that Houston has
played the last couple of weeks. I find it hard
to believe that you can be six and six and
now tell me that you have the ability to go
five and zero just based on how the Chiefs have played.
I mean, let's remove the game against Tennessee. That's remove
the game against Las Vegas. Those are two bottom eight
teams in the National Football League. You have to beat Houston,

(02:06):
Denver and Los Angeles. We're talking about three potential playoff teams.
Kansas City just hasn't shown me that they're going three
to zero in those games. They might go two to
one for sure in those games, but something's going to happen.
A penalty, a turnover, a bad drive. Something has just
happened at every single turn for this team. Right now,
I don't have them making the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
Karen Tick, can you talk a little bit about what's
going on with the offensive line. Josh Simmons stealing with
an injury. Tray Smith was out last week. What is
his status for this game? And then of course you
got a revolving door right tackle.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
Yeah, I mean, right now, I mean you just kind
of summarize it. I mean, right now, I mean, Josh Simmons,
their starting left tackle, has a broken wrist. I don't
believe he's gonna play. We'll find out today, but I
assume he's going to be out. Tray Smith, he's out
with a high ankle sprain, and they're also not going
to have their right tackle. So a big reason on
why I'm picking Houston in this game is I think
Houston's strength is their defensive line. I think their strength

(02:58):
is the ability to get after the other team's quarterback.
You know, watching these last couple of Texas game, watching
will Anderson just dominate the Buffalo Bills offensive line. If
he was doing that the Buffalo's offensive line, what is
he going to do to Kansas City's sixth, seventh, and
eighth offensive lineman. So that's where I think that Texans
have a major advantage because the Chiefs are super banged
up upfront.

Speaker 4 (03:19):
Again, Carrington Harrison from ninety six to five up there
in Kansas City join us here on the Morning Drive
with Dan and Cole. Carrington. I'm just curious, I mean,
because you know, this is a little bit of a
long term question here, but I mean, just with the
way that this season has gone, what is the fan base.
Are they looking at it as it's a bad season,
just tee it back up next year and we're right

(03:40):
back in position. Or is there a legit concern that
like maybe this is the end of this run.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
I would say it's probably a lot more just retool
the roster. I think the Chiefs kind of made a
critical air that, in hindsight, we should have saw after.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
The Chiefs lost the Super Bowl to Tampa Bay.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
It was kind of a running back mentality, Hey, where's
going to bring back the same pieces, the same guys.
You know, Hey, we'll get back on track. It worked
the first time. I think this is like a Hangover three.
Sure it's the same characters that it was the first movie,
but it just doesn't have the same last It doesn't
have that same kind of feel. I mean, if you've
been watching the Chiefs team and this is the same
Chiefs team you've been watching for the last two to
three seasons, but then you look.

Speaker 3 (04:18):
At the rest of the AFC.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
Denver is completely different, Indianapolis is very different in New England,
so a lot of those competitors just feel like new,
fresh teams, and Kansas City feels a little bit stale,
So at least for me, I'm not going to ever
advocate for them to fire Andy Reid. We're not close
to there. I don't think they should fire their general manager,
Brett Viach, but some things got to change. They got
enough on offense, so they shouldn't be as stagnant as

(04:41):
they feel offensively when it comes to the defensive line
some of those things. So I think at least I'm
pushing for some widespread coaching changes. And also I just
think the Chiefs need a roster refresh. I think they've
kind of runned this iteration back just one too many times,
and now I was just kind of start fresh and
just find some guys closer to their prime. And this
team just needs to hit on the draft again.

Speaker 1 (05:02):
Okay, you set me up for this one, dude, so
I apologize. But basically, we're entering for Tom Brady's two
point zero with Patrick Mahomes, the era where they didn't
win a Super Bowl from two thousand and seven to
twenty fourteen, Right, that's where we are in Kansas City Land, Right, Yeah,
I mean I.

Speaker 2 (05:16):
Would say somewhat like that, but I mean this is
where I think it's a little bit different.

Speaker 4 (05:20):
Man.

Speaker 3 (05:20):
When Tom Brady was thirty years old, the Patriots went undefeated.
Like it's hard to kind of quantify how big of
a disappointment this is.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
Like, if every player was available in the National Football
League in a draft, you would take Patrick Mahomes the
number one overall pick. I think he's the best player.
I think he's the best quarterback. I think he's the
most important player in the league. For you to outright
and potentially miss the postseason with him being healthy and
available all year is unacceptable. If he different. If Mahomes
got hurt in Week three, it came to city played

(05:49):
with a backup quarterback all season, and with six and
six you kind of use that as a oh, well,
they don't have their quarterback. Man, They've been healthy. Really
up until the last two weeks. This has been a
healthy team, and they just can't get going. It's kind
of one step forward, two steps back. It's been like
that all season.

Speaker 4 (06:06):
Travis Kelsey has been a problem for the Texans defense
in the past, but I mean, you talked about this
at Sexans defense that's playing as good as anybody right now.
Can he still be that guy on Sunday Night against them?

Speaker 3 (06:17):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (06:17):
One hundred percent. Man, I give Kelsey a lot of credit.
You know, Kelsey at the very beginning of the season
just kind of talked about, you know, I was kind
of distracted. I'm doing this, I'm doing that, and I
kind of let the you know, I let the main
thing not be the main thing. I give Kelsey a
lot of credit for kind of rededicating himself, really getting
his body right, and having an explosive year. I mean,
Kelsey last year averaged eight point nine yards per catch.

(06:38):
That's terrible. He's at twelve this season, so you just
want to talk about a big jump, just a much
more explosive a healthier player, a better player. I mean,
I'm at the point where I'm not one hundred percent
sure if Kelsey retires at the end of the season.
I think he's going to retire at the end of season,
but he's still playing at a high level. I think he
has a support of his fiance, Like I can definitely

(06:59):
see his area on which Kelsey comes back on a
one year deal, and it's kind of the understanding this
is the final year of his contract. It's basically what
Jason did. Jason didn't retire at the end of his
first contract, he signed another one and then it was
just kind of clear when Jason I thought was walking
off the field in his last game. Yeah, Jason's about
to retire.

Speaker 1 (07:18):
For the defensive side of things, you know, I truly
believe when he's as peak the best defensive pass rushing
defense tackle on the NFL's Christians. This past season, he
has three sacks and they haven't come in back back games.
What's the missing element there? And is he somebody who
has regressed enough with this new contract where you're wondering
what does the future entail with him long term out

(07:39):
in Kansas City.

Speaker 2 (07:41):
Yeah, I'm just the believer that your window is never
open as long as you think it is in the NFL.
So like if you're a team like the Lions, for example,
and the Lions probably thought they had a three four
year run.

Speaker 3 (07:51):
No, it was a two year run.

Speaker 2 (07:53):
You had your chance at the NFC Championship game, you.

Speaker 3 (07:55):
Had the one seed, You're done.

Speaker 2 (07:57):
I think a lot of times with these contracts, you're thinking, oh, well,
we got three four guaranteed years. No, man, you really
got two. Where I just think if you want to
look at as a kind of what I mentioned in
the very very beginning. What's gone wrong with the Chiefs. Man,
If your leading sack guy has five and we're at December,
your pass rush is a problem.

Speaker 3 (08:15):
Chris Jones is number two of the team.

Speaker 2 (08:17):
You just mentioned it.

Speaker 3 (08:18):
He has three. They had a.

Speaker 2 (08:19):
Player Mike Dana. He's on the defensive line three years,
twenty four million dollars.

Speaker 3 (08:24):
He has four tackles this year in.

Speaker 2 (08:26):
One sack Like that's where this defense has really really underperformed.
And again, I don't really care who you are. I
don't care how good your defensive coordinator is. If you
can't get pressure with your front four, everything else in
your defense breaks down.

Speaker 4 (08:39):
Texans have some vertical threats in Nico Collins and looks
like they're trying to get Jaden Higgins there. And I
see that the Chiefs questionable on Brian Cook and also
Chris Rowland Wallace. How do you think that secondary is
going to stack up against the Texans offense?

Speaker 2 (08:56):
Yeah, they certainly got enough options, I think aside from that,
I mean, they struggle against the Cowboys, but the Cowboys
probably have two of the top five receivers in the league.
The secondary just really isn't the problem with them. It's
kind of been kind of a pick your own poison.
As I just mentioned, they don't get pressure with their
front four, so it just kind of creates scenarios where
the Chiefs felt like they got a blitz. They gotta

(09:16):
sim five, they got us in six, they got us
in seven, and it puts those receivers on island. Like
I like Nico Collins to have a big catch in
this game for those are the gamble out there. I
take at Nico Collins over longest reception in this game
and just him having one big play down the field.
I really like this Texans team. I kind of run
into this. You guys probably run into this as well.
I feel like nobody likes anybody in the AFC, and

(09:39):
we just find reasons to poke holes in Denver or
New England or Indianapolis. Well, somebody has to go to
the Super Bowl for the AFC. It's not gonna be
two NFC team, So you got to pick the team
in the AFC that you like. What can they do consistently?
And I like CJ.

Speaker 3 (09:53):
Stroud. I think you got a.

Speaker 2 (09:55):
Young developing running back in Woodie Marks. I think they
got the best defense of the AFC. Like this is
the Texas team that if you can get through this
game on the road against Kansas City after winning in Indianapolis,
you just can't tell me that that defense can't translate
and they can't go anywhere and win in January.

Speaker 1 (10:10):
So now, guys, just remind yourself you can go to
at C dot Harrison on Twitter, and then when the
Houston Texans don't make the Super Bowl this year, you
can blame Carington Carrington Harrison for all that.

Speaker 4 (10:20):
Exactly.

Speaker 2 (10:20):
Don't do that, man, what are you doing?

Speaker 1 (10:22):
Carington Harrison from ninety six' five the fan In Kansas. City,
carrington thanks again for joining us today and congratulations on
the new guy coming From College station back To.

Speaker 2 (10:32):
Manhattan, yeah of, course, MAN i appreciate you, guys thanks
