Speaker 1 (00:02):
This is the Morning Drive with Dadd and Cole.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
With a lot of replays and a lot of free throws,
but it's still.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
Hey, Rockets test.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
Final score your Rockets one fifty in the Los Angeles
Clippers one thirteen.
Speaker 3 (00:29):
A happy final last night's over at Toyota Centers. The
Rockets back to action, able to take down the Clippers
by that final score that Matt Thomas just told you
about right there, and with that we say away we
go in good morning. Here it is the Morning Drive
with Dan and Cole Sports Talk seven ninety. It's also
the second day of our Saint Jude Radiothon presented by
(00:52):
Gallery Furniture. A great first day as part of it,
to over three hundred and eleven thousand dollars in just
one day. Any of you becoming partners in hope and
we really appreciate you doing that. And for those of
you who haven't done so yet, will be giving you
information all throughout the show on how you can get involved.
But I mean the Rockets last night able to take
care of business. You had Thursday Night football last night too,
(01:16):
where you know I'm watching that game. Col and the
Falcons did a very Unfalcon thing. They were down by
two scores going into the fourth quarter.
Speaker 4 (01:24):
So they force fed Kyle Pitts, which is something that
should have done for the last five years.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
Pretty much pretty much.
Speaker 3 (01:29):
I had a buddy of mine, who obviously is still
in my former stop and texted me and said, this
is the most Falcons thing ever that you're going to
have Kyle Pitts, who is in a walk year, I
mean more than likely in his final games with the Falcons,
and he finally becomes what they hoped they were getting
in the eighth overall pick when they picked him five
years ago.
Speaker 4 (01:49):
Congratulations, Terry Fons. Not when you're now going to be
a senior advisor for a team and a new GM
comes on in Michael Penni's at twenty nine years old
going into a contract season, will live up to the
billing of what he was always supposed to be coming
out of Washington with the eighth overall pick.
Speaker 3 (02:04):
I mean, who's to say that it's not Kirk Cousins
team Again, it's not Kirk Cousins.
Speaker 2 (02:08):
See, I'm gonna say, I'll say it triple.
Speaker 4 (02:09):
He will say, We'll all say together together, ready, one, two, three,
It's not Kirk Cousins team because the nerd is not
long term. Well, Triple he's doing stuff and you're not
gonna say what I'm gonna say. You're gonna fight back
no matter what it is.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
Well, i mean that's a possibility. It's it's very true
that that's probably gonna be the case. But I mean, well,
I'll tell you what, that Tampa Bay team looks like
a shell of what they were when they came in
here a few weeks ago.
Speaker 4 (02:36):
I mean, does it make you mad now that they
that you actually lost to that team, Well, it makes
you mad, But I mean it's it's just also though too,
where it's like, you know how good they.
Speaker 3 (02:45):
Can be, and they did not show that last night.
I mean, they were well on their way. But I
mean you apparently too, I don't know. I mean a
lot of times you see these videos, like for example,
when people were trying to say, oh, you know, Garrett
Nussmeyer mad and he left the LSU sidelines.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
No, he stayed the rest of the game. He was there.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
I mean, he was frustrated he got pulled from the game,
but he was there, like he you know, there were
even people he left and went to the locker room.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
No, he didn't.
Speaker 3 (03:11):
He was on the sidelines for the rest of the time.
So but apparently where I'm going with this is Mike Evans.
They said was leaving the sidelines before the final kick
was even made, which that happens all the time.
Speaker 4 (03:23):
Okay, to be fair, the guy's dealing with the back injury.
He's coming off of missing the last month and a
half with a collar bone with a collarbone strain. So
there's a lot of reasons to say, Okay, you're gonna
be seven and seven. You know that you're in field
goal range if you don't make the kick, and guess what,
you win the game.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
If you make the kick, you lose the game.
Speaker 4 (03:41):
So regardless of how you feel, eventually he is going
to be off the field, so you might as well
just say send him on into the locker room.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
I don't really care about that.
Speaker 4 (03:50):
What I care about is the fact that once again
Tampa Bay on a night that I needed them to deliver,
not for betting purposes, but in my fantasy league to
where I'm getting paid Overal's two thousand dollars to win.
I got two guys out there, and Bucky Irvin craps
the bed and Baker Mayfield craps the bed and a
Mecca and BUCA can't find a way to get on
open and they have to force feed the likes of
Mike Evans because if it's his return.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
And now I'm sitting here and I'm my congratulations, I
just lost. Well, I lost well, I mean, can you
tell I'm happy about it?
Speaker 3 (04:19):
Well, Thursday Nights also, I mean that's one of those
that sasday.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
Nights against crappy teams. How about that? Well, I mean
that's exactly it.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
And I mean in in Thursday nights, just in general,
the football is not crisp whatsoever. So that's one of
those that if you're putting action on it, then buyer
beware on that one, because I mean, how many times
this year we've seen teams. I mean, you saw Cincinnati
against Pittsburgh earlier this year. I mean some could even
say that Texans against the Bills. It was Texans first.
I Mean, I had another one of those where you know,
(04:48):
not necessarily the better team won that game, but at
least the team that was good enough to win the
game that night. That's I always remember that years ago
when the Texans beat at Pittsburgh and somebody asked, you know,
did you guys underestimate how good this Texans team could be?
And Mike Tomlin's response was they were good enough to
beat us today. That's and that's pretty much Thursday night
football for you right there. Yeah, that's great. That's all
(05:10):
hunky dory. I'm not making a betting line. I'm making
a standpoint on fantasy players. Why is Sean Tucker finding
his way to the end zone over Bucky Irving. Why
are we seeing Jalen McMillan get more targets than the
Mecca at BUKA. Why is Chris Godwin punching it in
for six points instead of number two, the wide receiver
from Ohio State that has saved my season and got
me to a number three spot, If you can't tell
(05:31):
him a little annoyed that I'm going up against the
one dude.
Speaker 4 (05:33):
Who I never beaten the playoffs. I lose them every year.
It's very annoying. I'm the only person in my league
of fourteen years to never play in a championship.
Speaker 2 (05:42):
So you're gonna lose this.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
So you're the Dallas Cowboys and they're the Green Bay
Packers or the San Francisco forty nine ers.
Speaker 4 (05:47):
No, I am the Arizona Cardinals, who the Texans will
face off against this weekend, good enough to make the
playoffs once every five years, they lose in the first round,
and they looked awful doing it.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
Well, at least you have high hopes for it, Cole
and I've Oh, you can't.
Speaker 4 (05:59):
Tell you you can't tell I'm super excited for this weekend, right, No.
Speaker 3 (06:03):
I absolutely can. I mean, come on, man, it's Friday.
You're wearing a Hawaiian shirt, Like, what's what's what's the deal?
What's what's the what's what's the vitriol today?
Speaker 2 (06:11):
Because I'm gonna be out of my fantasy championship before
it even started. You don't know that? Please? Okay.
Speaker 4 (06:19):
The dude that I'm playing against is currently projected to
fash with one hundred and forty eight points. I'm gonna
face with one hundred and two. I am going to
lose unless his team completely crafts the bed.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
Well, I mean root.
Speaker 3 (06:30):
For crapping the bed and root for your guys, maybe
a couple of guys overperform.
Speaker 4 (06:34):
Coming on about positivity, now, how about we root for
the Texans to go ahead and move to nine and
five on the year, on third winning season underneath Amiko
Ryans and once again one step closer towards claiming the
third consecutive AFC South title.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
That would be nice, and step one towards doing that
is one of four and it starts this weekend against
the Cardinals. Have mentioned the last couple of days on
the practice field, they'll get back out there today and
then do a quick little walk through to and then
Sunday at noon, which, by the way too watching the
weather last night for that. It's gonna be one of
those that you might head into the stadium with, you know,
(07:08):
a T shirt on. I recommend have have that jacket
with you when you're leaving because that cold front's supposed
to come through right in the middle of it. And
then once you step out of the stadium, you're gonna
be like, oh my god, it's freezing out here.
Speaker 4 (07:20):
Where whatever the hell you want, just make sure that
you are loud. You are there before kickoff, and you
were helping a Texans team that has rolled rattled off
five straight wins and may look like the best team
currently in the AFC to another victory.
Speaker 3 (07:34):
Well, and you know that's gonna be something that We're
gonna be keeping a close eye on over the weekend too.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Is the other games. I mean, you're gonna have Jacksonville
hosting the Jets.
Speaker 3 (07:42):
We're not gonna be paying close enough attention to that,
other than hoping that you know that Aaron Glenn's team
can can pull off the upset, which I mean they
have started to play better football as of late, so
maybe that could be something. I mean, Jacksonville is not
a team that's immune to losing a game like that.
Speaker 4 (07:59):
You mean joke of a franchise that currently is basically
playing with house money and skating by the skin of
their teeth may end up losing to one of the
bottom dwellers of the AFC.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
Sure call me shocked.
Speaker 3 (08:09):
Well, that's the hope for sure, and the Texans trying
to avoid that on their own end. We've been talking
a lot about the injury situation with the Texans. You
only had three on the DNP list yesterday, Nick Chubb,
Titus Toward Kamari Laster all missing.
Speaker 2 (08:23):
But Howard's was not injury related.
Speaker 3 (08:25):
It was a personal matter, so assuming he'll probably be
back out there today, but'll fine. You had Deniko Autry,
Woody Marks, and ejsp Limited, but everybody else that was
on that DNP on Wednesday as he's Alshai Air, Trent Brown,
and Sheldon Rinkins are the notable names that were full.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
So all good. So you mean how I told you yesterday,
We're not going to pay any attention to the injury
report on Wednesday. We're only going to look Thursday on
I was here.
Speaker 3 (08:50):
Wednesday usually is the day like where it's just like,
you know, oh hey my ankle hurts a little bit,
why I want you sit out today?
Speaker 4 (08:55):
There's no reason to practice on a Wednesday going into
the month of December. Like at this point, you know
what you're running offensively, you know what you're doing defensively,
and any stepbacks hurts the team rather than helps the team.
I'd much rather you take the entire week off and
go through walkthroughs on Friday, like Kamari Laster is gonna
do show up on the injury report is questionable, and
then Saturday rolls around.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
Yeah he's fine, he's playing well, because that's.
Speaker 4 (09:18):
What's gonna happen, you know that, right, No, Kamara Loster yesterday,
we'll see him out there today. He'll trot around, he'll
beat list of his questionable Then we'll get the we'll
get the update from wolveson tomorrow morning sometime around like
eleven o'clock and a go, yeah, Kamari Laster's playing.
Speaker 2 (09:32):
I mean you pull off the what would you be
pulling off?
Speaker 5 (09:35):
Here?
Speaker 2 (09:36):
The Julio Jones that Wolves it.
Speaker 3 (09:40):
Taylor Lawan on Busting with the Boys, was telling the
story about when they were teammates in Tennessee team you see,
and that Julio Jones, you know, he was in the
he was in the training room and he's like, oh,
you're not you're not practicing today. He's like, I do
this ish on Sundays and he's like, oh, he's still him.
But the moral of the story was he goes at
that point, he wasn't him any.
Speaker 4 (10:00):
No, he sucked at that point and that was the problem.
Like like, and I've started to realize this more and
more with Tyler Lockett. Then you throw in Andre, Now
you throwing Julio Jones. Tennessee is the place where your
career goes to die. If you're a wide receiver. It
immediately is done because guys, who else was there to
close out their tenure? Randy Moss so again constantly just
(10:21):
sucky play, overall, overrated wide receiver that no longer has
that same juice, tries to go ahead and rebound when
he plays for an organization that's looking for that number
one star, big time power to go into Nashville.
Speaker 2 (10:33):
You know what the career is done at this point.
Speaker 3 (10:35):
Randy Moss with the Titans. That'd be a good immaculate
grid play. What do you mean, I haven't played that
game in like in like two years. I remember when
that was like really popular. Yeah, I mean during baseball season,
I'll play it. I mean, you know, you see Robert
Ford will post what his was for that day without
three answers. I mean, that's that's good on him for
not posting the answers. But yeah, I completely would have
(10:57):
forgotten that Randy Moss was with the Titans. One one
of the weirdest parts of my career was when I
was in my previous stop and they were playing the
Colts and going into the locker room for the express
purpose of knowing that Andre was in there, Yeah, and
talking to Andre Johnson. And at the end of it,
you know, once once we wrapped up the scrum, I go,
(11:19):
this is kind of weird. And he looked at me
and goes, yeah, it is.
Speaker 4 (11:21):
Do you remember when Adrian Pearson played for the Tasty Titans?
Vaguely see exactly. That's the point is that when your
career is over, you basically go to Nashville. You get
paid a million dollars to go hang out on Broadway
and then suit up on Sundays.
Speaker 2 (11:34):
Yeah, Sam, I mean Nashville is a fun town. Yeah,
that's great.
Speaker 4 (11:37):
I would completely understand why you want to end your
career at Nashville. It's a fun place, but that's where
careers go to die.
Speaker 6 (11:43):
Now.
Speaker 3 (11:43):
Nashville is a lot like Houston, Atlanta, Austin, Like you know,
these cities that just like random places that you know
you're somewhere and you see a famous person.
Speaker 2 (11:52):
And you're like, what are they doing here? Oh they
live here?
Speaker 7 (11:54):
What?
Speaker 2 (11:55):
Okay? Texans.
Speaker 4 (11:56):
Overall thoughts going into this game that you need to
see before Sunday roll around passing game.
Speaker 3 (12:01):
I need I need to see I need to see
the offense be able to get it going like That's that.
That's something that you know, these next couple of weeks,
you've got a real opportunity to be able to take
advantage of softer opponents. I mean, the Cardinals aren't great defensively, but.
Speaker 2 (12:17):
They're they're not you know, awful either of They're kind
of right their defensive minded coach, so you would hope
that they sure somewhat attraction.
Speaker 3 (12:25):
And then you know, the same deal goes with the
Raiders the following week. I mean Max Crosby is a
huge part of that. And again, I mean kind of
just what you just threw out there with Jonathan Gannon.
It's the same deal with Pete Carroll. But you got
to take care of this weekend. So I'd like to
see CJ be able to get it going.
Speaker 2 (12:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (12:40):
Uh, twenty third in total yards allowed to give you
a twenty six point eight points per game, passing yards
per game two hundred and twenty four. I think that
that's enough for you to have a good gauge on.
Let's just see you be able to move it into
the red zone. And then once you're there you can
decide on, Hey, do you want to run it withop
Woody Marks, you want to pass it a Dulton Schultz,
You want to maybe get the guys involved. This be
(13:01):
the hey, Nico Collins, you take a day off type
of game. We need you for Los Angeles. We don't
need you for being up on Arizona. You set the
tone in the tempo and then eventually you find your
way to get to nine to five.
Speaker 3 (13:11):
Well, Kamari last year is somebody that could really benefit
from a good game again on Sunday, also too, I mean,
assuming he plays again missing yesterday's practice with the foot.
Speaker 2 (13:21):
Okay, no, he is playing at this point. He is playing.
Speaker 4 (13:26):
Come on, last week, we went through this and we
all were nervous, and we all were like, is he
gonna be out there?
Speaker 2 (13:30):
Are we gonna have to trust Tremon Smith?
Speaker 4 (13:32):
And then he shows up on practice on Friday, We're
gonna here today he shows.
Speaker 2 (13:36):
Up a practice. No, that was awesome.
Speaker 3 (13:37):
I mean, and we will wait and see what happens
today a practice. But I mean that was also the
Chiefs and this is the Cardinals. So I mean maybe
if there is a hey, you know, if you give
him a week off, he will be fine.
Speaker 4 (13:46):
Yeah, week off, you do that next week when you
face off against a team that has no wide receiver one,
I'm totally fine. I am totally fine with him not
playing against the Raiders. I do think because Michael Wilson
has been at least a thread at times. You probably
need him out here for this game. But next week
it's a three twenty five kick, it's a you know,
it's a later game. You're going up against a team
that's getting the number one overall pick. Buzz you can sit,
(14:09):
you can sit him and Derek Stingland.
Speaker 3 (14:10):
I think it'll be fure Can we go ahead and
agree that next week that three twenty five kick is
going to be a CBS call with Spirodidas, Adam Marchiletta
and a d D Kika Maala.
Speaker 4 (14:18):
So you mean the AFC South crew for the D
plus game. Yes, absolutely, one hundred percent agree with you
on that.
Speaker 2 (14:24):
No, that's that's that's what we'll be getting.
Speaker 3 (14:26):
So I should probably already go ahead and reach out
to Adam Marchalletta and see if he wants to join
the show. Rogers, you're right there, we're working in you
want to join him seven one three two on two
five seven ninety against seven one three two one two
five seven ninety. As I was mentioning about Kamari last year,
heaping praise and somebody else inside Texas building giving him
quite the compliment, share that with you here as we're
(14:47):
just getting going here on a Friday edition of the
Morning Drive with Dan and Coles Sports Talk seven ninety
But as we've been mentioning, it's the Saint Jude Radiothon
presented by Gallery Furniture and the day one to tote
bow board.
Speaker 2 (15:02):
See I mean soon enough, I got there.
Speaker 3 (15:04):
Tote board total presented by Okarves Financial Group three hundred
and eleven thousand, nine hundred and twenty six dollars. So
today the Partner and Hope goal, and we're giving you
a little bit of an incentive this morning here in
the six o'clock hour, the first ten Partners in Hope
going to receive a fifty dollars gift card from Willy's
Grill and ice House and ice House, and it's good
(15:27):
at all nine locations. And you become a Partner in
Hope today for just nineteen dollars a month to help
kids at Saint Jude fighting cancer by putting your gift
on a card. And you're going to receive a new
Saint Jude T shirt and a hoodie. So I mean
we're giving you three different free things right there for
that nineteen dollars A month an awesome T shirt which
I'm wearing today. The hoodie also too that I was
(15:49):
wearing yesterday and you saw it on my social feeds.
And then also too, if you're one of those first ten,
you're getting a free fifty dollars gift card to Willy's
Grill and ice House and all of that for helping
out kids who absolutely need your help over at Saint Jude.
When you call one eight hundred five eight eight one
four three three one eight hundred five eight eight one
four three three one more time, that's one eight zero
(16:12):
zero five eight eight one four three three to help
out kids fighting cancer at Saint Jude.
Speaker 8 (16:19):
The Morning Drive with Dn and Cole on Sports Talk
seven ninety, home of the Strolls, Rockets and Houston's best
sports talk.
Speaker 2 (16:29):
I gotta be honest, I missed the beginning of the
Rockets scheme last night because I was watching that to
see where and when everybody played. You were looking forward
to see when the trip to auction.
Speaker 3 (16:40):
Was mar week three? How about that the first SEC
game of the year. Who says the SEC doesn't lean
into the storylines And to make this thing as much
professional wrestling as television.
Speaker 2 (16:52):
It's a one hundred percent leaning into it. If they could,
they would put it in week two.
Speaker 3 (16:55):
By the way too, I mean speaking of that, for
Lane in his first season at LSU, you get that
one pretty much right out the gate, where the previous
week you host Clemson. But then also on top of
it all, at the end of the season, they go
to Tennessee and we all know how.
Speaker 2 (17:12):
Volunteer second to last game or the last game. It's
the second to last game.
Speaker 4 (17:15):
Okay, So they're in Knoxville, they're in Oxford, they face
all against Clemson at home and they take on Texas.
Speaker 3 (17:22):
Yeah, their their second to last game is Tennessee. Actually
is tennis. Yeah it is away, that's a way. Yeah, Yeah,
it's away this year. Congratulations, Lane, can't wait for an
eight and four season? Yeah, LSU this year with home
games against Clemson a m. They've also got Alabama and
Texas coming there. So a little bit of a rough
(17:44):
slate for Lane Kiffing in year one. How good are you?
Speaker 2 (17:47):
Lane? Well, that's why you were paid the big bucks.
That's it.
Speaker 4 (17:51):
As for Texas, real fast, Ohio State at home, UTSA
at home home games against the Florida Gators, Ole Miss
Mississippi State in Arkansas this upcoming year, road trips to
Kyle Field Tiger Stadium for road field for Missouri Cotton Bowl,
and then at.
Speaker 2 (18:08):
Kneeland Stadium, and then we did you say Ole miss
or Texas? No for Texas, Okay for Texas.
Speaker 9 (18:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (18:14):
Yeah, So most of their good games are going to
be away from dk R this year. Well, I mean,
you did get the Ohio State game at home on
the two, that's a pretty good game.
Speaker 3 (18:22):
That is a good one, But trips to Kneeland and
as you mentioned there of going to Columbia Missouri too.
Speaker 2 (18:29):
So that's what you got on the think it's going
to be better though.
Speaker 4 (18:32):
I actually I am a big I'm a big fan
of the Buster Faulkner higher I do like John Summer
a lot, so I think that's gonna be one of
those games to where it doesn't feel like it's a
big matchup. But also right after Cotton Bowl, so when
you play.
Speaker 2 (18:44):
Oklahoma it always feels.
Speaker 4 (18:46):
Like a trip up game for one of the two,
and whoever wins that one usually finds a way to
screw it the next week.
Speaker 3 (18:50):
But at least this year they won't ride out the
gate be facing Ohio State. They're gonna get Texas State
the very first game Texas State Bowl team, right, yeah,
say it's.
Speaker 2 (19:00):
A Texas on Texas Bowl in the state of Texas,
that's right.
Speaker 3 (19:03):
Yeah, taking on Rice, who was able to get in
there because you had teams who said, man, bull season,
we're good.
Speaker 2 (19:10):
I'm okay if I'm Kansas cit I'm okay from Iowa State.
Rice Food walk into the party. That's it.
Speaker 3 (19:16):
Hey, go go get a week of a free grab
bag of stuff and you know, go go eat free
meals and do all that kind of stuff and play
some games and then play the game and your season's over.
Speaker 2 (19:26):
Yeah, but you're kind of got a freaking Dallas to
play that match. So that's the only problem. That's it's
a sye l Okay. Yeah, there you go.
Speaker 3 (19:33):
Someone three, two and two, five seven ninety is the
number to get in the praise on Camari Laster will
save that for the bottom of the hour.
Speaker 2 (19:40):
Roger wants to weigh in this morning.
Speaker 10 (19:41):
Good morning Roger, Hey, good morning fellas.
Speaker 7 (19:45):
Dan Cole easy. Uh So, Yeah, the Texans I think
they really have a really good opportunity the next two
games to sharpen up some of that Russ and get
that not some of that rush off, especially for a
stroud I think normally, so in the season, you would
you would kind of like rest them maybe see if
if we're blowing him out. But he needs all the
reps he can get. He's he's gonna kind of hit
(20:07):
or miss out there with some of those receivers. And
really we take this opportunity to really straighten some of
that stuff out. Now the defense, Uh, the defense is.
Speaker 6 (20:17):
Gonna bring it, man.
Speaker 7 (20:18):
Uh yeah, I know every given Sunday, but everything any
given Sunday hasn't met this defense. So I'm gonna go
ahead and say, uh uh, just play play their games
sharp enough, those those rough edges, and and get going. Man,
try to try to be a well gold machine after
these next two games, and and and work on your
(20:39):
work on your craft.
Speaker 1 (20:40):
Man.
Speaker 7 (20:40):
You know, he needs all the live reps he can
he can get. Uh as far as as far as tomorrow.
Last year, that guy's he's just the old school, old
soul type of guy that reminds me of Ronnie a Lot.
Speaker 9 (20:51):
Man.
Speaker 7 (20:51):
He just he's he's a no nonsense, uh, just straightforward. Hey,
I'm gonna hit you in the mouth and then you know,
if you give me a gonna get back and them
doing the same thing over and over. I love his mentality.
I love that kid.
Speaker 1 (21:05):
Man.
Speaker 7 (21:05):
He's he's a he's a you know, he's so so,
he's a he's an old soul. Like I said, he's
an old school type of guys, type of mentality. A
lot of these guys are why they mentioned so well together.
You know, they don't take anything for granted, and and
you know it's it's it's the next rep after the
next rep, keep going, and uh, as far as the
Rockets are concerned, man, I was a nice win. Nice
(21:25):
to see it win. You knew there's you're born or
come out flat as a pancake for all that rest.
I don't know why these schedule makers are doing is
Cougars are playing well games with the Rocket at this point,
so uh, I kind of like, you know, just left
it to that. But then I saw something I'm not
liking it that he Dooka saw it too, and kind
of kind of called a couple of timeouts because of it.
(21:48):
I see these guys defer, this is not what why
Katie is here. I see these guys deferring to the
rant too much. Uh, they're they're forced sitting of the ball.
Speaker 2 (21:58):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (21:58):
It happened a couple of times, if you they kind
of like saw on and just like, man, yeah, you
dug all the credit in the world because he's like, ah,
this is not how we're going to do it. And
I understand that the office was bogged down. They were
kind of like a malaise, like like seven six minutes
after the third quarter to finally for them to you know,
up up, up the tempo, speed it up and you know,
(22:19):
get the clippers. You know, we're you know, off balance.
But still it was a ugly, sloppy review is replay
kind of game, and it was just I just didn't
like it. I just hope that these guys can understand
that the you know, you're you're, you're, you're going after
a team and okay, see that doesn't make take time
(22:41):
days off like this. I understand there was a lot
of rest and that's natural. Man, just too much, too
many days off. That's just kind of weird that schedule makers.
I don't know what that's about. But yeah, I just
hope that they can, uh, you know, play better as
a team, man, go moving forward. I just I was
just ugly yesterday. That's all I got.
Speaker 4 (23:02):
Sorry, I'm pushing back on Roger though. The reason you
brought Katie in was to be the star. The reason
you brought Katie in was to be the dude who
was going to elevate this team. Here's the problem. You're
going up against a six win Los Angeles Clippers roster.
You don't need Katie to be dropping thirty on the night.
Speaker 2 (23:17):
Well, I mean he also had a Vicha Zubots who
was tough for you last night in that game, to
go along with Harden and with Kawhi Leonard.
Speaker 4 (23:27):
Yeah, Durrant dropped sixteen Jabari Smith dropped eighteen twenty two
for shring Goon twenty and nine rebounds for I'm and
Thompson including Knight big three point of like seventeen.
Speaker 3 (23:36):
Twelve of those coming in the fourth quarter too. So
it was nice to see him show up in closing time.
So maybe if Katie was a little loft, then somebody
else able to pick up the slacks. But more more
often than not, you want Kevin Durant to be that
guy for you, I hope not.
Speaker 4 (23:50):
Against a Clippers team that sucks, like that's the only
thing like against Denver against Los Angeles. By all means,
I'm all for it, but last night was totally cool
with that. My Thomas has taken on over and oppertun
get into an opportuny gag and stuff.
Speaker 3 (24:01):
All right, the ultimate praise for Kamari Lasterer, especially too
when you figure out who's on the other side of them.
Speaker 2 (24:07):
We'll have that for you.
Speaker 3 (24:09):
As we're continuing here in the six o'clock hour, it
is the Morning Drive with Dan and Coles Sports Talks
seven ninety. But again it's day two of our Saint
Jude Radiothon presented by Gallery Furniture. Nineteen dollars a month.
Nineteen dollars a month makes you a partner in Hope.
And let me just give you some stats right here
for you one partner in hope. That's good enough. Your
(24:30):
nineteen dollars a month is good enough to provide ten
days of meals for a Saint Jude family. If there's
two of you, thirty six blood count tests for a
Saint Jude patient. How about three day there's three partners
in hope, three days of oxygen for Saint Jude patients.
The more and more of you that donate to this cause,
(24:51):
the more kids and families that can benefit from the
great hope, help and give them hope over at Saint Jude,
because that nineteen dollars a month helps k is that
Saint Jude fighting cancer. When you put that gift on
your card, you're gonna get a new Saint Jude T
shirt which I'm wearing today in the hoodie which I
was wearing yesterday. If you call right now, one eight
hundred five eighty eight one four three three. That's one
(25:13):
eight hundred five eight eight one four three three, one
more time, that's one eight zero zero five eight eight
one four three three to help kids today over at
Saint Jude.
Speaker 2 (25:27):
You don't have to be a pip to get your
lady to work at your command, mister Bonbee, that's right, jes.
Speaker 8 (25:31):
Asks just my device to play Sports Talk seven ninety
on I Heart Radio.
Speaker 3 (25:37):
The guy we're gonna talk about right now, Kamari Lassiter
is U for the second straight day, DNP.
Speaker 2 (25:42):
But I mean you pointed it out. I'm fully aware.
Speaker 3 (25:46):
Last week then he was doing the off to the
side work, and then that's Sunday he was on the
field against the Chiefs.
Speaker 2 (25:52):
Well, we got it.
Speaker 4 (25:53):
Today you will see him be working off to the side,
and then come Sunday you will see him get two interceptions,
a pass breakup.
Speaker 2 (26:00):
Probably a forced fumble.
Speaker 3 (26:01):
All right, well, speaking of the interceptions, the pass breakups,
all of those things, I mean, seems like he's had
a lot more of those opportunities because teams just do
not throw at Derek Stingley. I mean, it's just really
that simple. I mean, the Colts did it what once
in that game, and it was the fourth down, pass breakup,
desperation time.
Speaker 2 (26:19):
He Chiefs did it I think twice the entire game too. Okay,
So there you go.
Speaker 3 (26:22):
So you get Kamari Laster everybody else on the field,
and you know you're pretty much playing with ten at
that point because well you've already got one taken away,
but with Laster. Matt Burke teams DC talking to Yes
today with the media and heap in some praise on
his guy that has opposite Derek Stingley Junior.
Speaker 11 (26:43):
I'd argue he's the best tackling corner in the league,
and he's the toughest corner in the league. And then
you know he's making plays on the balls downfield. I mean,
I don't know what else you want. I mean, he's
he's everything that I think this program believes in as
a football player and represents what we're about, and so
really excited and proud for him and happy and honestly, like,
if we didn't have Staying, we'd probably be talking about
(27:05):
him as a different type of corner, you know what
I mean. But the fact we got you know, another
great one on the opposite side of him, it maybe
changes the perception of him. But I think he's an
elite corner at this level, and I think he's going
to be top in the league at some of the
skill sets that he performs with.
Speaker 2 (27:21):
So very excited to have him. I will go as
far to say that.
Speaker 4 (27:26):
Twenty two games into his NFL career, he is the
best cornerback from his draft class far and away. I
think he is an automatically bonafi top ten corner in
a league.
Speaker 3 (27:37):
And I mean we also, I mean, you know, we
played the audio that Kirby Smart had from that Orange
Bowl that he didn't have to play in. I mean
remember too, that was pre experience of the college football playoffs,
so that Orange Bowl really didn't matter. That was the
Florida State one that was the Florida State one, and
Kamari Laster played in that game because he told him,
he goes, you need to come out for the draft.
And not only do you need to come out for
the draft, I don't think you benefit from playing this game.
Speaker 2 (28:00):
He said.
Speaker 3 (28:00):
A couple of days on the sidelines at practice and
he finally said, I can't do it.
Speaker 2 (28:04):
I gotta suit up. I've got to be out there
with the guys.
Speaker 4 (28:06):
He's got an itching to get out there. And I
think that that's the reason why last week was Hey,
I know I'm hurt. I know that I'm not at
one hundred percent. You're pulling me out of this game.
You're not telling me I'm not playing in this game.
And that's the thing I think you think about going
into this weekend, because you're right. I mean, Tremon Smith
should be good enough to handle whoever is wide receiver
number two because it doesn't look like Marvin Harrison Junior
is gonna be playing. You know that Greg Dorch is out.
(28:29):
You know that they're very limited outside of Michael Wilson
and Tree McBride. You don't need a Kamaria Laster. Here's
the problem, though, Kamaria Laster is built different. He's not
somebody who's gonna be sitting around waiting for an opportunity
to take it off day. He wants to be out
there and play as many many reps as possible, and
until there's a reason for him not to be, he's
(28:50):
gonna continue to fight for it. And like so, like
we talk about next week, I'm fully convinced you don't
need to play any of your starters unless it feels
like that you're in a moment of desperation. Kamai Lass
is gonna say, I don't care if you think that
I need rest or not. You're pulling me out of
this game on a stretcher, on a cart. That means
my season's over. You're not telling me that I'm not
(29:11):
going to be able to suit on up when I
know that I'm at eighty five percent, which in my
mind might as well just be one hundred. I'm at
forty two percent. I'm already at one hundred. I'm at
twelve percent in my mind splits that around twenty one
percent doesn't matter. I'm at one hundred in my in
my v city, Well, I mean, it's just you know,
you go to work. I mean, that's that's that's really
what and you know, and we call guys like that gamers.
I mean, that's that's what he is. He's a gamer.
(29:33):
He's a guy that wants to be out there. He
wants to play. And that's also that's infectious for everybody else.
I mean, because if you're in that locker room, if
you're going around this guy, and you know, you hear
about all the time leads by example, that's something that's
that's contagious because I mean, if you're in that locker
room and you see, oh, that's what he's doing.
Speaker 2 (29:50):
He's going about his business that way. The hell am
I doing? You're you're you're the fiftieth, fifty, first, fifty second,
fifty third guy on the roster, you're you're clinging to
a career in this league. That that's what he rubs
off on.
Speaker 4 (30:01):
Well, the thing is like, you can't sit here and say,
why am I not showing on up when he's at
eighty percent given one hundred?
Speaker 2 (30:07):
Why am I not going through my motions?
Speaker 4 (30:09):
Why am I treating practice like it's a joke when
he's going at ninety, when he's doing it this way,
when he knows that right now he may have to
go undergo surgery of this offseason, he may have to
deal with some ailments that put him sideline, but as long.
Speaker 2 (30:20):
As there's a game out there, he's gonna be suiting
on up.
Speaker 4 (30:23):
I love that Matt Burke brought up the little things
that I think really stood on out about his tape
when he was coming out of Georgia. Great tackler form
fitting tackler, does not missing that opportunity, willing to play
the run, tough as all hell, fighting through pain, fighting
through opportunities to go ahead and win his one on
one battles. He makes teams basically have to pay attention
to him the way they do with Stingley, but for
(30:44):
different reasons. Like when you're running the football, it feels
like it's easier to run to twenty four side than
is to foreside because you at least you can gain
one or two yards. If you got Kamari Lasser coming
down at like a heat seeking missile, dude, you're debt.
Like the way he plays right now, That's the way
I think everybody wants to play. And like Rogers said,
oh he reminds me of Ronnie Lott. Don't tell you
what he reminds me of a sinner. Damiko Ryans, just
(31:07):
the way he plays, the way he goes about his business.
It's always I'm gonna put a hat on a helmet
and I'm gonna make sure.
Speaker 2 (31:13):
That that kid knows if you on my way. Dude,
you ain't getting back up. You're done for the night.
Speaker 4 (31:18):
Like, come on, let's try again, because I promise you
you're not gonna be able to.
Speaker 2 (31:22):
Live through this.
Speaker 9 (31:23):
Well.
Speaker 3 (31:23):
I mean, Jalen Petrie made Rachie Rice figured that out
last week too. So Texan's got thumpers, there's no question
about it. And one of those other thumpers we'll hear
about in the seven o'clock hour when we get things
going then. But Cole, I mean, you know you're a
guy that you love your teams. I love my teams.
Have you ever taken it so hard that you had
to have the cops called on you?
Speaker 4 (31:46):
I mean, when I was in high school, I definitely
had to run for the cops a couple times because
of house parties.
Speaker 3 (31:50):
Well, let's let's share those stories. But somebody out there
took a recent loss so hard that that's exactly it
Johnny Laws showed up at his Door'll let you hear
that as we close out six clock hour here on
a Friday, right here on the Morning Drive with Dan
and Cole Sports Talk at seven ninety. But of course,
as we've been mentioned in the Saint Jude Radiothon presented
(32:11):
by Gallery furnch and I know you're going to tell
the audience a little bit more about it, Cole. But
something that you mentioned yesterday that I thought was so
great about it the nineteen dollars a month to be
a partner, and hope you threw.
Speaker 2 (32:20):
It out there.
Speaker 3 (32:21):
You're like, that's a couple of less trips to go
get coffee. That's maybe I don't know, you brown bag
it for lunch a couple of days a month. That's
all it is, right, That's all we're asking people to
do to help out kids who are fighting cancer at
Saint Jude.
Speaker 4 (32:33):
Nineteen dollars a month is all it's going to take
for you to go. I had to be a partner
in Hope with Saint Jude, presented by Gallery Furniture. Currently
yesterday the toeboard total presented by Oak Harvest Financial Group
over three hundred and eleven thousand dollars, So nineteen bucks
a month, that's all we're asking for it. Nineteen bucks
quite literally a week's worth of lunch. Whenever you go
on out, you probably need to lose a little bit
(32:54):
of weight. You probably want to give a little bit
of money toward the kids that need it the most.
But I'm gonna take it a step further. How about this.
We need ten partners in Hope to sign on up
right now. We're gonna push this and I'm gonna pay
for your lunch. Well, actually, Saint Jude's gonna pay for
your lunch because when you go ahead and sign it
up as a Partner and Hope, you will receive fifty
dollars gift card from Willy's Grill and Ice House.
Speaker 2 (33:14):
And it's good at all nine locations.
Speaker 4 (33:16):
So whether you're in the Woodlands, whether you're in sugar Land,
whether you're in Houston, Cyprus, whatever location you go, do
Willie's Grill and Ice House fifty dollars simply by signing
on up. You can call now at one eight hundred
five eight eight one four three three one eight hundred
five eight eight one four three three Again that number
one eight hundred five eight eight one, four three three
And if you're busy, I get it.
Speaker 2 (33:37):
You want to go.
Speaker 4 (33:38):
Ahead and save the save the Shenanigans until you go.
Speaker 2 (33:40):
Up ahead and park your car.
Speaker 4 (33:41):
If you forget about it, we could just text the
number of kids to six two six two sixty two.
Texts the word kids to six two six two sixty two,
or click click the link from Saint Jude dot com.
Speaker 1 (33:52):
Donate.
Speaker 4 (33:53):
Go ahead and just use the word kids for six
two six two sixty two. This is the Saint Jud's
Radio Radio Thion presented by Gallery Furniture.
Speaker 8 (34:02):
They are on Morning Drive. Here's Dan Matthews and Cole Thompson.
Speaker 3 (34:09):
I threw it out there, Cole, because me and you
were passionate sports fans.
Speaker 2 (34:12):
Triple E.
Speaker 3 (34:13):
You're you're a passionate sports fan too, so you know
moments where things did not go well for your team,
and that it got so much that maybe it reached
a point of concern. Well, in the case of this
Eagles fan, it reached a point of concern that people
called the cops on him. Now, this is somebody who
(34:36):
isn't living in Philadelphia anymore. I saw the info on
them that they're actually now living in Missouri but a
stand up comic and somebody who is a contributor to
the fan sided site there. But they were nice enough
to post the ring doorbell camera footage of when a
cop came to their door following the Eagles overtime loss
(34:58):
on Monday night to the Los Angeles Chargers.
Speaker 12 (35:03):
Yeah, hey, man, there.
Speaker 7 (35:04):
You go, Jake.
Speaker 13 (35:05):
Yeah, okay, hey, so someone called in reference to your
Facebook players the eagless man.
Speaker 6 (35:12):
I know, so, I don't care.
Speaker 2 (35:14):
I'm fine.
Speaker 9 (35:14):
The Eagle floss and the.
Speaker 6 (35:15):
Dogs are barking.
Speaker 2 (35:16):
I gotcha, I got it.
Speaker 5 (35:18):
You don't yourself, Jalen Hurs three turn the ball over
six times?
Speaker 4 (35:22):
Man, that's right.
Speaker 2 (35:23):
Yeah, okay, all right, man, I reached out.
Speaker 3 (35:25):
All right, Jake Beckman is the guy's name that posted this,
And uh, yeah, I don't I don't know what he
posted on Facebook, but I mean apparently obviously it was
something that people are like, oh, man, like he's really
taking this loss hard. Like I mean, look in in
the serious side of this is like in the age
(35:45):
of you know, hey, I shouldn't ignore the signs. I mean,
good on whoever to say I shouldn't ignore the signs
even if you know that probably deep down, it's exactly that.
And the cop, you know, I love that too. That
the cop, you know, knew he watched the same game.
It was probably guy at it. Yeah, yeah, we've been
just like he's like I understand, you know, like that.
The only thing that would have been better right there
is the cop was like, do you lose some money
(36:05):
on this? It's like no, no, it's just I'm a
massive fan. But I've never had the cops called on me.
But I mean I've had embarrassing moments. I've had my
brother have to calm me down after a fantasy football loss.
I'll be I'll be completely real. I will never act
that way if a team loses. It's frustrating, it sucks.
It's the harsh reality that maybe your team's not that good.
(36:26):
But there have been three times playing in the conference
championship weekend for my fantasy league, I have lost by
two points or fewer, and I have been left out
of the I've been left out of the championship. My
brother had to call me and calm me down because
of how much I was going on a rampage losing
losing on my freaking mind.
Speaker 2 (36:43):
I don't know why you're staring at me like that.
Speaker 4 (36:44):
If you've ever been a matchup in a fantasy game
when there is multiple thousands of dollars on the line,
I completely understand the valid crash out at that.
Speaker 2 (36:53):
Point, col You're yelling, yeah, I'm right here, Okay, I'm
going to do it again.
Speaker 4 (36:57):
I'm going to lose again this weekend and I'm never
are gonna make it to the championship.
Speaker 2 (37:01):
And it's frustrating. I feel the frustration I got you
as it has.
Speaker 4 (37:06):
It been soaked on in that you're realizing that I'm
sitting here once again realizing that the inevitable dream has
come to an end, that I will be not having
one thousand dollars in my bank account come Monday morning.
Speaker 3 (37:16):
Well, I guess, I mean you've made me realize that,
so sure, I guess now I'm gonna be complaining about
it all day.
Speaker 2 (37:22):
I'm just letting you know.
Speaker 4 (37:23):
This is part of the bit today that I am
annoyed as all hell that once again a Mecca Booka
and Bucky Irving couldn't get the job done against a
four and nine version of an Atlanta Falcons team with
Kirk Cousins starting at quarterback.
Speaker 3 (37:35):
Those be the beats sometimes it actually involved your guys
in twenty eleven, because I mean remember the National Championship
that year when you had just two teams played for
the National Championship, the BCS LSU.
Speaker 2 (37:48):
Against you guys could cross the fifty they couldn't cross
the fifty yard line. Yes, correct. It was the rematch
to the nine to six game.
Speaker 3 (37:54):
All of that, and you know, Les Miles decided to
not go at Jared Lee and stick with Jordan Jefferson,
which I mean, you got the revenge of the Jefferson
in twenty nineteen, so that was nice to see just
justin this time being able to help out. But the
Trent Richardson touchdown to ice it, I mean it was
iced already because of exactly what you mentioned. But as
(38:14):
soon as Trent Richardson broke it off for that touchdown run,
I flipped our coffee table where I was living at
the time, which it was a place that was paid
for by my dad. He would stay there whenever he'd
be in town, and you know, it was mostly just
me by myself. So that night, luckily, I was by myself.
So then my dad asked, Hey, what happened to the
coffee table. I didn't even have a good excuse. I
just said, Trent Richardson, did you break it?
Speaker 2 (38:36):
I broke it? Was it glass?
Speaker 3 (38:38):
No, no, it was It was a wooden table. But
I threw it hard enough against the wall that it broke.
Didn't leave a dead in the wall luckily. No, I
don't know how it didn't. But the table did shatter.
Speaker 2 (38:48):
As it should have. I mean, how hard you throw
the dang thing? Really hard? So harder than Trent Richardson
ran it over you guys?
Speaker 10 (38:55):
Yes?
Speaker 6 (38:55):
Good?
Speaker 9 (38:56):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (38:56):
Three and a half quint yes, yes.
Speaker 3 (38:58):
If LSU offensive that night and had half the effort
that I had in throwing that coffee table, maybe it
would have been a different night.
Speaker 2 (39:04):
You would have still lost fourteen twenty one to seven.
Speaker 3 (39:07):
Well that it also too, I lost twice because my
dad made me pay for it and replace it.
Speaker 4 (39:10):
Well you should have, dude, You're not to be able
to control your frustration. How do you think I felt
watching the kick six happen? And it now be called
the greatest play in college football history? It's broad up
every single year. I know, I know the word for
word call by Rob Bramblett because of how much that
has impacted my.
Speaker 2 (39:26):
Life, even the guy yelling, oh my god, I do it,
like quite literally.
Speaker 4 (39:30):
Kirsten will play it every single year and I'm sitting
in my chair and I'm just mouthing every single word,
and then I freak out when he says, oh.
Speaker 2 (39:36):
My god, Davis is gonna run it back.
Speaker 7 (39:38):
Oh my god.
Speaker 2 (39:39):
Exactly.
Speaker 4 (39:39):
It's part of sports. But I don't break stuff. Afterwards,
I'm just like, crap, this is gonna be. You got
more self control than me. It's fine. It's fine because
if it doesn't affect my life, fancy football when I'm
down thousands of dollars does affect my life.
Speaker 3 (39:52):
Hey, look, you know we all have emotional moments. We're
all entitled to our moments. And that was just a
moment for me. And it was twenty eleven, so.
Speaker 2 (39:58):
I guess I was what twenty five I have twenty
six years old at the time, so yeah, I mean, look,
there was room for growth.
Speaker 9 (40:04):
I was.
Speaker 2 (40:05):
I've seen the airs of my ways since then. It's fine.
Speaker 4 (40:08):
I was sixteen and still young, fascinating on the world
and not butchered and torn up by society.
Speaker 2 (40:15):
I didn't I didn't have the cops called on me,
so at least I had that.
Speaker 3 (40:19):
But all it cost me was just a cool amount
of money to be able to replace the coffee table,
which I did, and you know, we can all laugh
about it ever since then.
Speaker 4 (40:27):
Yeah, the cops called him a couple of times, and
we were doing house parties in high school.
Speaker 2 (40:30):
That was a lot of fun. Those were the times,
you mean running for the cops at like one in
the morning.
Speaker 4 (40:34):
Yeah, when you're half stumbling out and knowing that you're
a miner that's already moistened.
Speaker 3 (40:38):
Hoping fences. My finger got caught in a fence when
we had finger. It caught a fence because it was
it was a wooden fence that I guess it was
a little worn down and my finger got caught in it.
So then, you know, one of my buddies was like,
I just leave him, and I'm like, oh, that's awesome,
thanks man.
Speaker 4 (40:55):
You ever seen a guy so drunk that he has
no idea what he's doing, but somehow has like the
strength of the m Yeah, I saw a dude, quiet
lily run through a wooden fence to go avoid the cops.
Speaker 2 (41:04):
Thats a giant hole. Interesting, It was funny.
Speaker 4 (41:06):
I'm not gonna lie you see like you know when
you see like those those frames of people, and it's
like in the car in the cartoons, like, holy crap,
it's like a perfect epitome. Quiet literly, it looked like that,
like you could see exactly where his body fit through.
Speaker 3 (41:17):
And that same buddy until he unfortunately had passed a
few years ago. Every time I would remind him after
that in the year's uh afterwards, I'd say, I'll just
leave him.
Speaker 5 (41:26):
Huh.
Speaker 3 (41:27):
He'd be like, dude, I'm like no, no, no, no,
no no, because like when I when my finger got caught,
they didn't want to get stuck. So you know, they're thinking, oh,
every man for himself. I'm like, no, how about you
help me so I don't get pinched. No, it's every
man for himself.
Speaker 2 (41:39):
That's the rule.
Speaker 4 (41:40):
When the cops are called, you sprit, you have read
at that point you have a curfew and you're not
trying to get in trouble with your parents.
Speaker 3 (41:46):
And I was able to get back to the car
and get home. It was all good when it was
all said and done. All right, we'll get into the
seven o'clock hour. Will Anderson Junior, living up to his nickname,
I mean, that's what nicknames are for. So we'll have
that for you here as we get into the seven
o'clock cour But keep reminding you the Saint Jude radiothon,

let's make it a good Friday, and let's help out
these kids over at Saint Jude.
Speaker 8 (42:54):

Speaker 10 (42:59):
And the.
Speaker 8 (43:02):
Sports Talk seven ninety your home for your home teams,
an iHeartRadio station guaranteed Human.
Speaker 14 (43:13):
This is the Morning Drive with Dad and Cole, still
waiting to see on the Astros.
Speaker 2 (43:23):
Are we going to get a deal anytime soon? We
will have to just wait and see on that.
Speaker 4 (43:29):
I have eight hours to see if you'll get done.
Because I said three o'clock on Friday. That's right, that's right,
you did so right now, I am winning the bet
that we made in my head that I have not
told you what you're going to pay me if I'm right,
But we're pushing the limit.
Speaker 2 (43:44):
I didn't agree to any payment triple.
Speaker 4 (43:46):
You heard him on Wednesday, right, We all agree that
he was going to be on a payment of some time.
Speaker 10 (43:50):
Right.
Speaker 2 (43:51):
I do recall that exactly. See, he's on my side.
He knows that he trail comes in all shapes and sizes.
I mean, my lord, I mean I I I almost
feel like for this one we need a replay review.
I'm may you doka, I'm calling a time out and
have that green light come on. Challenge. Okay, challenge is confirmed.
You lose the bet and it is a hell. I
am going to fine. I'll throw a bacon, egg and
(44:14):
cheese taco at you. How about that hate breakfast?
Speaker 4 (44:16):
What I've told you this, I am not a breakfast person.
It is black coffee and an energy drink. And that's
about as much.
Speaker 2 (44:22):
It turns down breakfast tacos.
Speaker 4 (44:24):
I turned on all breakfast foods. Bacon is made for
me as a dinner dish. I'm going to sit here
and look at you until you understand that breakfast is,
in my opinion, the most overrated food of the day.
Speaker 2 (44:39):
I used to not be a breakfast guy, but I've
I've very much, especially with breakfast tacos become a you
throw it at me, then I'm in. Like people who
argue about pancakes and waffles. It's the same thing. It's
just the way they just one of them has dimples
in it.
Speaker 4 (44:51):
The other one exactly one is flat and one has
at least a curve to it. It's like it's like
when you're your preference with women, Like that's all it is.
It's the exact same thing.
Speaker 2 (44:59):
I like that, that's all it is. French toast.
Speaker 4 (45:02):
Throw the same thing into that logic you can accept
instead of white bread, you could do with wheatbread. Quite lily,
it's all the exact same thing, but we all gotta
spruce it on up. Oh we're gonna add whipped cream
and berries and served to it. It's just it's just
condensed bread.
Speaker 2 (45:16):
That's all it is. It's delicious, Is it come?
Speaker 3 (45:21):
A black coffee called? Will Anderson Jr. Is not overrated?
And Will Anderson Junior's nickname is the Terminator. And I
had heard that before, never really heard it a bunch,
but I know that he recently did a video with
GQ about how he spent his first million. And it
was a cool little video, you know, going through you know,
showing like, you know what what he spent and on
(45:42):
what nice little you know, Disney Family Trip, all that
kind of stuff. Good stuff. But one of the things
was a draft night chain of the Terminator where one
side was the robot with the red eye, and then
it's a terminator on the side.
Speaker 2 (45:56):
Is the other one Arnold Schwartzeger's face. No, no, he
he wanted to have it where it was half his
face and then half the terminator. But they were like,
you know, Na, that's gonna be kind of tough. But
apparently he got the nickname when he was at Alabama. Well,
apparently Will is very very locked in on game days.
And if you were watching the post game Sunday night,
Rodney Harrison, apparently I guess saw him there on the
(46:20):
field during warm ups and wanted to try to talk
to him. And well, if you're gonna hear right here,
Rodney did not get the reaction that he was hoping
for when he approached Anderson Junior on the sidelines. He
ignored me.
Speaker 15 (46:31):
When I was trying to talk to you, Dan, I
know you, I know you're boring. Hey, look I do
the same thing to my parents. They be scam to
come over, come over once. I'd be like telling a lot.
I was intimidated. I was like I was up there
talking to guys like I just get my mom right.
Speaker 4 (46:47):
You know what's the funny thing is that's the least
shock And think about Will Anderson Jr. Because, like you
see him inside the locker room, and you would think
that he's intimidating as all hell.
Speaker 2 (46:55):
He's like a kid. He's he acts like a kid
in a candy store.
Speaker 3 (46:58):
I've always seen him. I mean, he seems like he's
pretty magnanimous. He seems seems like he's a pretty happy,
go lucky guy.
Speaker 2 (47:06):
He's a great personality.
Speaker 4 (47:08):
It's easy to talk to when you're inside the clubhouse,
but when you're on the field, I mean, the way
he plays is like a switch turns off on him.
Speaker 3 (47:15):
Well, and speaking of seid switch, Tomiko Ryans was on
the Pardon My Take podcast with Big Cat and PFT
on Barstool, to which he was voted top three most
attractive coach in the league, which my mom agrees with that.
My mom thinks that Dimiko is a very good looking man.
And with you know that, they also talked some football
with them, and one of them was about Will Anderson
(47:36):
Junior and his pregame get up for games and Demiko,
you know, matching Rodney Harrison's story in Anderson's you know,
a description of how he is on game days and
here's Demiko on that it.
Speaker 2 (47:52):
Depends on the game.
Speaker 13 (47:54):
Sometimes I have to leave him alone.
Speaker 2 (47:55):
He's so locked in and he's.
Speaker 13 (47:57):
Gonna sometimes if we are locked sometimes he shakes my
hand so hard. I'm like, dang, I don't want to
I better not do that again, I'm better avoid this
guy on game day because he is so locked in.
We're doing our team drill and on game day and
he goes against our tight ends and I'm like, oh
my goodness, this is the most violent play ever in
(48:19):
warm up. So he is weekly locked in.
Speaker 3 (48:24):
More guys like that, and I need more guys like that.
We were talking about Kamari last year earlier. Will Anderson Junior,
you know, Jalen Petrie is one of those guys like,
wouldn't it be nice like say, on this offensive line
you find out the center is that way, or you know,
the the right guard is that way, like any any
of those guys like you find out like yeah, the
(48:44):
the mean streak, it's it's in them.
Speaker 2 (48:47):
It's it's very much in them.
Speaker 4 (48:49):
As long as you have one guy running the show
when it comes to drafting offensive lineman, you're not gonna
get it because they all have the same personality.
Speaker 2 (48:57):
That's probably the problem. Where's the line?
Speaker 4 (48:59):
I mean, let's be real, every single one of them
has had like a timid approach in some capacity. Now,
some of them are really good will. I will give
credible creds to Titus Houer when he's on the field
is a monster. I think Arianta ersrie when he was
able to show during training camp, it gives you some confidence.
Speaker 2 (49:15):
But I remember when they brought in King and Green.
Speaker 4 (49:18):
God, dude, the second he had a conversation with him,
like you are such a pacifist, you were going to
get your ass kicked.
Speaker 2 (49:24):
Well, I mean you knew what the second that he
had one conversation with him. And that's the difference with
some guys.
Speaker 3 (49:28):
I mean, because you know, I make the comparison all
the time between the early twenty tens teams like Chris
Myers was a brawler.
Speaker 2 (49:36):
Like Chris Myers was the guy that wanted to do it.
Speaker 3 (49:38):
He was a little undersized, but still he was somebody
that you know, you want to scrap, we'll scrap.
Speaker 2 (49:44):
We'll do that.
Speaker 3 (49:44):
I mean, remember Andre Johnson and Courtland Finegain. He was
the first guy there to grab Courtland Finnegin and pull
him away one handed. Mind you, but I mean, that's
that's what you need on that group, and that's where
you know, just the continued growth of the core of
this team is having guys like will Anderson Junior, having
guys like Kamari Laster and in Jalen Petrie to be
(50:07):
able to hopefully have that filtrate through your team and
the rest of the guys saying, oh okay, that's the
way they are on game days.
Speaker 2 (50:13):
Maybe that's the way we love it.
Speaker 4 (50:14):
Nothing more than an offensive lineman to Actrick Brian Kushing,
that's what I think you need. You need somebody who
is willing to crack his skull open and then play
through the pain with blood streaming down his face, looking
at a defense attack and going your ass is mind like,
that's the way you got to be able to have
the play I think of the offensive line.
Speaker 9 (50:30):
Now.
Speaker 3 (50:30):
Well, and that's the thing too, is I mean, you know,
just being able to have just that intimidation factor. I
almost feel like, you know the movie Little Giants Intimidation.
But I mean, that's that's what you want. I mean,
you want that, you know, out of guys in position
on the field that absolutely need that.
Speaker 4 (50:47):
How do you go from intimidation to Little Giants with
Rick moranis.
Speaker 3 (50:51):
No, because that's exactly what it was. Emmitt Smith and
Bruce what was it Bruce Smith? I think I forget
who else was there. Jim Kelly was some John Madden,
Hey coach, you have any advice for us in the game, Yeah,
good luck. Hey, look, you know it's not about the
pep talks or anything like that.
Speaker 2 (51:09):
It's Rick moranis. There's nothing intimidating about it. But he
ended up beating his brother. He ended up beating Ed
O'Neil only one. That's a great that's a great fictional
story with that. And then and then he got up
on the water tower there the home of the o'sha brothers.
What was his daughter's name, Becky Icebox? The Icebox was
her nickname, right, but Becky was the real name, right,
(51:31):
I think so. And then you have and then you
have the dweeb with the glasses. Howie was it?
Speaker 4 (51:36):
I don't remember any Like you're trying to you're trying
to invoke intimidation, and you're using Rick moranas and Ed O'Neill's.
Speaker 3 (51:42):
Like, yeah, you had a ragtag bunch that were able
to beat the mean, nasty cowboys with Spike.
Speaker 4 (51:47):
Now, don't give a crap that you have Spike on
the other sideline. Give a crap that you're talking about
a Rick Morana's led team to be intimidating, Go ahead
and throw out Jamie Fox or anything that you saw
with the replacements with what's his name, Gene Hackman. If
you're gonna use intimidation, that's a good one for intimidation. Yeah,
they had a kicker that was Whitery. All I think
of when it comes to Rick moranis is him playing
Seymour and Little Shop of Horrors or Honey, I Shrunk
(52:08):
the Kids.
Speaker 3 (52:08):
I always remember from Honey I Shrunk the Kids and
also My Blue Heaven underrated movie.
Speaker 2 (52:13):
Darth Helmet actually is the one that should go see.
There you go, thank you. Darth Helmet is actually the
one that you should go. I can't breathe in the
damn thing, Kevin. They're really going to remake that movie.
They are, and he's gonna be part of it. It's stupid, man,
It's too well, it's it's okay for starters. Melbursu is like,
what ninety eight? Is he even still gonna be able
to see the movie come out? Probably?
Speaker 3 (52:32):
Ah Mel still alive and kicking, He's still got the energy.
Is he gonna play President's Scroop? President Scrooge? I thought
that was screwp No, I think it was Scrooge.
Speaker 2 (52:41):
Why would it be Scrooge? It's not a Christmas movie.
You'd have to ask mel Brooks, Danny, he was yogurt
as well? Yogurt?
Speaker 14 (52:49):
That was it?
Speaker 2 (52:50):
Marchandising, Yeah, Marchandising, Space Spawls the Flame Thrower.
Speaker 4 (52:55):
Have you seen the clip of what they think this
should happen? Is it being like they already released the movie?
And they say that they were going that they already
filmed it back in like nineteen ninety five, and that
it's gonna be like on VHS and they're gonna start
it by playing it inside the spaceship like how they
did when they play inside the space.
Speaker 2 (53:09):
Yeah, when will then be? Now soon? But that's what
I'm saying. They already filmed the movie and now soon
A here is how they're gonna start it. No, that's
a yeah. It's picking up right where you left off
with the other movie where it was they they were
watching it in real time? Now is now? This is now? Okay?
Speaker 4 (53:24):
How about we get back to the now conversation of
the Texans finding a way to win on Sunday.
Speaker 3 (53:28):
That's a way that we can be able to keep
the conversation on track for sure, and we'll do that
also to in this hour I do want to get
into a little bit of astros because well we've been
wondering if a trade could happen. Well, somebody out there
has a way that it could, and we will discuss
that too.
Speaker 2 (53:44):
Is don't forget.
Speaker 3 (53:45):
We're gonna have Steve Weis NFL Network coming up at
eight o'clock, Trevor Sikama from Pro Football Focus gonna join
us at eight point thirty, Aaron Wilson for his weekly visit.
At nine he will hop in with us, and then
nine third we're gonna have out to Arizona from Arizona
Sports ninety eight to seven. Out there, John Gonbodoro gonna
hop on with us. So look forward to a jam
(54:06):
packed final two hours of the show. But we'll continue
the Texans conversation with exactly a Cole throughout. Coming up
right here on the Morning Drive with Dany Cole Sports
Talk seven ninety It is the Saint Jude Radio Thon
presented by Gallery Furniture and that tote board after the
six o'clock gour it is presented by Oak Harvest Financial
Group And that hour we got over eight thousand dollars donated.
(54:32):
We are now at three hundred and nineteen thousand, three
hundred and sixty five dollars. In this hour, we need
twenty eight partners in hope. By eight o'clock, twenty eight
of you to be like Jennifer from the Woodlands, Diana
from Houston, Bill from Spring, Mark from Houston, Joeanne from Houston,
Casey from Houston, Eduardo from Houston, Jeser from Houston, Lorraine
(54:52):
from Alvin, and Leslie from sugar Land. They all became
a partner in Hope by pledging just nineteen dollars a
month to help kids fighting answer at Saint Jude. And
when you put that gift on your card, you're gonna
get the new Saint Jude T shirt and hoodie by
calling right now at one eight hundred five eight eight
one four three three. That's one eight hundred five eight
(55:13):
eight one four three three. One more time, that's one
eight zero zero five eight eight one four three three.
Speaker 2 (55:21):
To help out the kids today at Saint Jude.
Speaker 8 (55:25):
Back to the morning Drive, here's Dan Matthews and Cole Thompson.
Speaker 3 (55:32):
Yeah, I remember I got like a like full, probably
three page long email from a reader that had tried
to convince me about Christian McCaffrey, and I just wrote back,
thanks for your time.
Speaker 2 (55:44):
I'm not reading all that best of luck in your
future endeavors or sorry for your loss. That's how I
always responded. No, I just said thanks for your time. No,
but like I'm saying, and you're right, I didn't read it, dude,
like I'm sorry.
Speaker 4 (55:55):
Like two thousand total yards over thirty touchdowns on the year,
he was averaging six yards to play. He was a
backbone for a team to win a national title, and
people are sitting here an acting like, oh because of
you know, he doesn't catch the ball out of the backfield.
Speaker 2 (56:07):
He's not the most dual threat player. I don't care.
I care about what I saw.
Speaker 4 (56:12):
The most downant force on the football field in the
toughest conference in the sport was Derrick Henry that year.
No questions asked, Sit down, shut up, and don't ask
me about christ McCaffrey.
Speaker 2 (56:22):
You don't even have to ask for mine. Yeah I do.
Twenty nineteen. What do you mean, Joe Burrow? Oh God,
come on, why?
Speaker 3 (56:33):
Like he gave me the He gave me the funnest
college football season that I'd ever had in my life.
It made up for two thousand and seven where I
had to sweat it out every single week when it
paid off because they won the national title. And I
mean it was every single game where it was we
don't hope to win this game, we are winning this game.
Speaker 4 (56:52):
JaMarcus Russell was the Heisman Trophy runner up in two
thousand and six. Wasn't he I don't know if he
won or is that Brady Quinn and then he is
atic ceremony.
Speaker 2 (57:01):
I think he might have just been at the Troy
Smith won it and still say not at how he did.
Speaker 3 (57:05):
No, there were a few years there where it was like,
you know, we don't really have anybody here, just give
it to that guy, and Troy Smith was one of those.
Do you think it's this year kind of feeling that
way a little bit? I'm not gonna lie. I mean,
because like you know, people Fernando Mendoza and a lot
of that is where he plays. I mean, let's say
if Fernando Mendoza played at Michigan, and you know, and
Michigan is in Indiana's position right.
Speaker 2 (57:27):
Now, thirteen to zero and they're in the playoff number
one seed, yeah, which I mean, boy, Michigan, they've got
their own problems.
Speaker 3 (57:33):
But you know, just any of the USC say say
he played at USC, all right, we'll go ahead and
use that one as an example.
Speaker 4 (57:39):
Well, then he's probably winning it. You know what, I'm
actually changing my answer. I'm not going with Derrick Henry.
I'm going with the one who absolutely deserved the award.
And I'm sick and tired of people bringing it up
in this town anywhere else. Reggie Bush deserved the Heisman
Trophy over Vince Young. Get over it. I'm sorry. I'm
done with this art argument people all the time. While
I say, well, Vince Young did X Y J. Reggie
(58:01):
Bush and his two years of dominance, including two thousand
and five when he won the dang thing absolutely no
questions asked, carried that USC offense all the way to
a national title, and he single handedly was the reason
that became a game.
Speaker 2 (58:15):
He deserved the Heisman over Vince Shung.
Speaker 4 (58:17):
If you want to argue that Vin Schung deserved the
Heisman one year, I totally understand.
Speaker 2 (58:20):
Give it the year with Matt Liner. Well, but Vince
Young got the ultimate last laugh when it was all
said and done, and you know, won the national title.
Speaker 4 (58:28):
See to me, that's the play in college football history
that we need to talk about more, not the kick six,
mainly because he's.
Speaker 2 (58:33):
Going for the corner. He's got it, touchdown. Mosburger was
so good on that call to No. It was Keith Jackson.
Jackson was on the call. No, but the radio call
was Musburger. I think that night. Well, no, I mean,
at least the local radio call was was Craig Way.
It was Craig Way.
Speaker 4 (58:47):
You are right, he's been there that long. Oh yeah,
what's it been in two thousand and two?
Speaker 3 (58:52):
No, I mean he was even there before that because
he was doing the games with Bill Shooning, who then
left and became the Spurs guy. And and that's when
Craig flipped into the play by play chair and has
been there ever since.
Speaker 2 (59:02):
Triple A.
Speaker 4 (59:02):
Who's your favorite heisman of all time? I know you
have an answer, seem Bradford. It's Baker, right, it's Baker.
It's one hundred percent Baker.
Speaker 2 (59:13):
I mean, come on like that, like to me, to me,
that's the story.
Speaker 4 (59:16):
Like that's why Diego Pavia deserves the won the award
because it's much like Baker. You don't get an opportunity.
People laugh and scoff at you. I'll go step further. Dan,
Vanderbilt had its first ten win season. They couldn't do
that without Diego Pavia. Bernanda Mendoza transferred in from cal
yet still Indiana last year went to the College Football
Playoff with Curtis Rourke. So I'm saying that right now,
(59:42):
it's not Bernanda Mendoza that got Indiana to win the
Big Ten Championship.
Speaker 2 (59:45):
It's Kirk Signety.
Speaker 4 (59:46):
I just you don't have a ten win season without
Diego Pavi out in Nashville.
Speaker 2 (59:50):
That guy deserves the Heisman. I just if Mendoza wins it,
you know that speech is gonna be so cringe.
Speaker 4 (59:55):
Why because if you have no Because because you're gonna
have emotion and it's gonna be overwhelming. The fact that
you were able to be college football's highest honor as
a quarterback that people didn't believe in.
Speaker 2 (01:00:06):
I just add that that's why I want Pavia to
be the guy. I want Pavia because I just I
don't know how that speech could go. I think he'd
be great, Okay, Can I be honest. I'm really sick
and tired of doing this, but like I have to
bring it on up just just can we just call
it a quarterback award at this point? I mean, you know,
you just threw out a couple of running backs that
have won it, and I mean this was the year.
Speaker 3 (01:00:26):
I know a lot of people were pretty upset that
Jacob Rodriguez didn't get a call out there kissed.
Speaker 4 (01:00:31):
Do I really need to see Julian saying with his
seventy eight point two percent completion rating and twenty four
touchdowns being over.
Speaker 2 (01:00:39):
The middle in the middle part haircut excrib me in
the fourth place spot, just to invite the linebacker at
this point, at least when you invite Jacob Rodriguez, you
show you care or but no, it's like, oh, quarterback, quarterback,
quarterback and a running back that probably actually deserves the Heisman,
but we're not gonna give it to him. The last
defensive guy to win it was Woodson. He's the only
defensive guy to win it.
Speaker 4 (01:00:58):
Okay, Like and Domakin soon Aiden Hutchinson were the only
two since two thousand to be invited to the ceremony
in both fish second. I remember when Sue was there
for that too. Will Anderson should have been in an
over Aiden Hutchinson. I will die on that take. He
had more tackers for losses, he had more sax, he
had more pressures, he played in a tougher conference. But
they didn't want to have it all be Alabama, so
(01:01:18):
they said, Skirt, We'll give.
Speaker 2 (01:01:19):
It to the Michigan kid.
Speaker 3 (01:01:20):
So I am so college football's most prestigious awards. So again,
you follow us on Twitter, you can answer that question
right there at Sports Talk seven ninety. Who is your
favorite Heisman winner with it being given out this weekend.
But you got the Texans getting ready for the Cardinals
on Sunday, you got the Rockets winning last night, one fifteen,
(01:01:43):
one thirteen. Let's get into little bit of Astros though,
because we're wondering if indeed one of these guys could
be traded, but maybe, just maybe this one would solve
a lot of problems for him. We'll discuss right here
as we continue in the seven o'clock Howard is the
Morning Drive with Dan and Cole Sports seven ninety And
I've been telling you all day and for good reason,
(01:02:03):
and we will continue to tell you all day because
we want a million dollars raised this year. We raised
four hundred thousand earlier this week at the golf tournament
over at the Golf Club of Houston for Saint Jude.
And we are well on our way to hopefully accomplishing
that goal this year. And it's gonna be people like
you helping out with us here on the Saint Jude
Radiothon presented by Gallery Furniture. When you become a partner
(01:02:27):
in hope by pledging just nineteen dollars a month to
help kids at Saint Jude who are facing cancer, you
put that gift on your card. You're gonna get that
new Saint Jude T shirt wearing it today. You follow
me on Instagram at Dan Matthews twenty seven. You see
said T shirt yesterday, same deal. All my socials you
saw me wearing the hoodie. They both say music gibs.
Both of those come in your way when you pledge
(01:02:48):
just nineteen dollars a month to help out these kids
at Saint Jude, and you can give them a call
right now. One eight hundred five eight eight one four
three three one eight hundred five eight eight one four
three three Again that's one eight zero zero five eight
eight one four three three to help out the kids
at Saint Jude today.
Speaker 1 (01:03:10):
You like free stuff we all like free stuff.
Speaker 8 (01:03:13):
Guess what our iHeart Radio app is free and free
never sounded so good.
Speaker 2 (01:03:22):
Well, we'll probably have one on one and one on
like nine to fifty or somewhere else like that. You're
gonna have the Texas call on this channel. Probably it's
a state that's one hundred percent. Why I know, I
know it's fine, you don't. You don't have to chastise
me for it. I'm going to chastise you for it.
Speaker 4 (01:03:36):
How dare you think that for one second in the
state of Texas we're playing the Louisiana call when they
play against Louisiana.
Speaker 2 (01:03:42):
You know who our bosses are, the Yelsu Mafias. Matt
Thomas calls him, Cordy will be fine, he can go
ahead and less on nine fifty he can, he can
survive for a day. We'll probably be there for being honest,
all right.
Speaker 3 (01:03:53):
So the Astros, you know, one guy in particular that
you know I've I've maintained the last few days is
that the Astros have a Christian Walker problem, because it
seems like you take Christian Walker or East Soak Peretis
out of the equation, then things kind of start to clear.
Speaker 2 (01:04:09):
Up for you a little bit.
Speaker 3 (01:04:10):
When it comes to the infield, then you can try
to figure out, you know, do you have Bryce Matthews
up here or are you trading him away as right?
Do you bring back Victor Carattini, any of those things
of you know, being able to build out your bench
at that point. So Bob Nightingale USA today throwing out
with the Winter Meetings coming to an end. Earlier this
(01:04:31):
week the ten predictions for the off season, and one
of them involved the Mets. So his headline for it
was MLB Winter Meetings End. But these ten questions still
hang over the off season and when it comes to
the Mets. What are the New York Mets going to do?
After Pete Alonzo signed with the Baltimore Orioles on a
five year deal and closer Edwin Diaz fled for the
(01:04:53):
Dodgers on a three year deal. Will they steal Cody
Bellinger from the Yankees? Do they throw money at Kyle Tucker?
Will they actually give a free agent starter more than
a three year deal? His prediction the Mets will take
a run at Bellinger but end up trading for first
basement Christian Walker or signing free agent at Kazuma al
Kamoto from Japan, while also signing starter Michael King and
(01:05:17):
reliever Robert Suarez. Well, that last one obviously doesn't work
because Suarez went to the Braves, but at least the
first part right there, that's one of those. And I
even said it yesterday on Twitter. Pick up the phone, Dana,
pick up the phone, call David Stearns right now and say, hey,
I hear you're looking for a first basement.
Speaker 2 (01:05:34):
How much are you willing to eat at the contract
to get rid of him?
Speaker 10 (01:05:37):
Though?
Speaker 3 (01:05:37):
That's the point, that's the question, because then one of
our listeners even throughout what is that twenty five to
fifty percent?
Speaker 2 (01:05:45):
I think you're probably eating thirty twenty five of it?
If I had to guess, if you're the Astros, you.
Speaker 4 (01:05:51):
Could guarantee that he is not here. It figures out
a problem on what you had with First base. You
know that Peretes is moving over to full time. Would
you pay fifty percent just to get rid of him?
Speaker 2 (01:06:03):
Yes? So you would be wanting to pay it now? Absolutely, Yes,
yes I would.
Speaker 4 (01:06:07):
I'm just making sure that you're okay with that, because
I think that you're looking around that forty to fifty percent.
Speaker 3 (01:06:11):
Of eating the cap, because I was gonna say, I mean,
if if you're paying that fifty percent right there, that's
twenty million dollars that you free up. And maybe it's
not this soft season, maybe it's next off season that
you're able to do something with that. But let's just
for the sake of argument say that. But I mean,
I understand what Walker gives you from a goal glove
defensive perspective over there at first base.
Speaker 2 (01:06:29):
And I just lost second half this year too, and
he he had some he did.
Speaker 3 (01:06:34):
Have some some missteps over there. That's what I think
was kind of frustrating with some of his plate struggles too,
like where it was just like all right, dude, look,
if you're going to strike out with runners in scoring position,
then we need you to be tip top over there,
because that's what we heard about you.
Speaker 4 (01:06:47):
Yea, I'd be one of the other You can't you
can't strike out with bases loaded three times in a
series and then have an error on at first base and.
Speaker 3 (01:06:54):
Then, I mean, and those are things that I think
frustrated Astros fans about him last year and second half
I understand, I mean, he was able to have a
stronger second half.
Speaker 2 (01:07:01):
That was nice to see.
Speaker 3 (01:07:02):
But I mean, just overall, I mean, you give me
the choice between the two eating money as opposed to
the cheaper option that's under club control like Estoc Perettis.
And also, to mind you a guy that, as I
told you yesterday when I talked to my buddy in
Tampa when the Astros acquired him last offseason, sure told
me better with the glove than he's given credit for.
Speaker 2 (01:07:24):
He proved that over at third base last year that
he was really good with the glove.
Speaker 4 (01:07:27):
We need to have a conversation though, and this is
the part that I know a lot of Texas Astros
fans seven seven nine, if you want to chime on in,
are we certain that est Sooc Perettas can play first base?
Speaker 2 (01:07:40):
He's done it in the past.
Speaker 4 (01:07:41):
So as long as okay, as long as you feel
confident that he can be a full fledged first baseman,
because now, outside of a random off day, he's playing
first from the rest of his career as long as
he's in Houston. So as long as you're okay with that,
then I say forty fifty percent. I want to eat
for Christian Walker.
Speaker 3 (01:07:57):
Here's the Devil's advocate side of it, though, I mean,
in the argument for keeping Walker here and trading away
Perettis would be you're gonna have ose L Tuva at
second so you know that some defensive miscues could happen
over there because he's declined at second base. So it's
a huge reason why he was moved out to left
field last year was because of that very reason, and
you wanted to be able to give Brendan Rodgers a
run over there, maybe Mauricio Dubond. But the way that
(01:08:20):
you currently are at this moment, I know that Joe
and Dana are saying the right things about finding a
place for East sac Perettis, but then it kind of
gets to a point where I understand using the DH
for a day or two, that's fine, But then you're
gonna have yord On there for the majority of those games.
Speaker 2 (01:08:35):
You might have Yordon out and left field for what
thirty games.
Speaker 3 (01:08:39):
I would say less than forty games this year. I mean,
that's exactly it. I mean, you're going to have them
out there, you know, every once and so often. Although
I mean, as I've said, yord On, if it were
up to him, he'd be out there all the time.
That's why I love the story of Joe Aspoda. Yeah,
he's sending me articles where they're like, he's actually a
plus defender out there.
Speaker 2 (01:08:57):
Oh, that's nice.
Speaker 3 (01:08:58):
We don't want, you know, the scare that you had
a couple of years ago on Sunday Night Baseball where
it looked like he rolled an ankle or a knee
out there in left field, and you're like, yeah, we
don't need that.
Speaker 4 (01:09:08):
You still need to be able to find a game
plan on how you can utilize him to his full potential.
I'd give him a shot at least. I mean, this
is especially if you're going into the season where you know,
right now you have a question with the status of
both esseach Pretz and Christian Walker, because as at this
point I'm treating until I see a move get done,
both will be here for spring training. The first time
(01:09:28):
you'll see one of them get moved is June or
July of twenty twenty six.
Speaker 3 (01:09:31):
What would really help in this scenario is if Peretis
could play the outfield. That would be massive because if
he could, then you'd stick him out and left field.
Could we just say it'd be easier to say hose
al tou Ba. He can play the outfield consistently.
Speaker 2 (01:09:44):
He's willing to do it, but it just seems like
that Joe and Dana are are not very keen on
that idea. It's a liability.
Speaker 4 (01:09:51):
Is the problem is that you're looking at how he
plays defensively and how his arm is that you're probably
going to be limited with that stuf.
Speaker 3 (01:09:57):
And the point that I brought up to somebody about
that too is look when he got most of his
starts out in left field last year.
Speaker 2 (01:10:02):
Who was starting fromber.
Speaker 3 (01:10:04):
Promber, Yeah, ground ball pitcher. So most of your pitcher
is now our fly ball guys. So you want somebody
out there that at least is a little bit better defensively.
Well yeah, but at the same time, I want somebody
who has a good arm. I think that's part of
the reason why you're seeing Jake Myers get moved. He's
great defensively, but from an arm standpoint, runners are tagging
going to third, runners are scoring from the third. They're
(01:10:25):
making sure that they're able to hit the balls in
the gap turn a single into a double.
Speaker 4 (01:10:29):
And like with al Tuove, that's a one hundred per
second to be a problem. You run on hose al
tu Va in leftfield and Jezus Sanchez too.
Speaker 3 (01:10:36):
I mean, as we had Brian McTaggart a with us
yesterday reminding us of what Sanchez can bring you. I mean,
you know that's somebody else that I think. It's a
lot of run out there in left field, but it'll
be interesting. This was the day last year that Kyle
Tucker was moved. So I mean you said at three
o'clock this afternoon, could we see a deal made between
sometime now and then?
Speaker 2 (01:10:56):
We will have to wait and see.
Speaker 3 (01:10:58):
Let's get back into the NF because this one begs
the question could we be seeing a repeat of history
when it comes to this position on the field. We
will discuss that right here as it is the Morning
Drive with Dan and Cole Sports Talk at seven ninety.
But we've been telling you about the radio thon for
Saint Jude that is presented by Gallery Furniture and Cole
Partners in Hope.
Speaker 2 (01:11:19):
That's what we're looking for.
Speaker 3 (01:11:20):
We want more partners in Hope, and you've got the
information on how people can become that.
Speaker 4 (01:11:24):
Dan want to Mark and Houston, Joanna and Houston, Jennifer
and the Woodlands and Diana all from Houston all have
in common.
Speaker 2 (01:11:29):
You got to take a while, guest, they're partners in hope.
Speaker 4 (01:11:31):
Now they're actually just really random people that I have
on this list, but yes, they actually are partners in hoping.
You can be a partner in hope by signing up
to Day just nineteen bucks a month, quite literally a
week's worth of going out for lunch to help kids
at Saint Jude's facing cancer. Become a partner in hope
by pledging nineteen dollars, put your gift on a card
and you will get a new music give shirt or
a Saint Jude hoodie. And if you want to see
(01:11:52):
what that looks like, just go look at Dan matthews
profile picture. I promise you you'll be able to get
a good gauge. Call now at one eight hundred and
five eight eight one four three three one eight hundred
and five eight eight one four three three.
Speaker 2 (01:12:03):
Again that number really simple. One eight hundred five eight
eight one four three three.
Speaker 4 (01:12:08):
This is the seven ninety Saint Juge Radiothon presented by
Gallery Furniture, nineteen dollars a month to help kids facing cancer.
The holiday season is about getting back, give back to
those who certainly need it the most right now at
Saint Jude. Maybe you're too busy to make the phone call. Okay,
six numbers all you gotta know six two six two
six two two numbers. Just in any form six two
(01:12:31):
six two sixty two. Text the word kids to six
two six two six two to give back to Saint
Jukes helping kids fight cancer this holiday season.
Speaker 8 (01:12:41):
Page Town Beilt Morning Drive continues now now here's.
Speaker 1 (01:12:46):
Dan and Cole.
Speaker 3 (01:12:49):
Eight o'clock hour. We'll talk with Trevor Sikima from Pro
Football Focus. Aaron Wilson will join us for his weekly
visit at nine o'clock, and in nine thirty we'll have
John Gombadoro from Arizona Sports ninety eight seven there in
Phoenix hopping all with us to talk the Cardinals someone
three two one two five seven ninety I want to
(01:13:10):
take you back to a few years ago, trying to
remember the year it was that it was that preseason
game for the Colts, and news started to come out
that wait, Andrew Luck's going to retire.
Speaker 2 (01:13:20):
Two thousand and nineteen. If I'm twenty eighteen, I'm mistaken,
So I.
Speaker 3 (01:13:25):
Mean, but it was the final preseason game and then afterwards,
you know, he's he's up at the podium where he's just.
Speaker 2 (01:13:31):
Like, I'm not gonna lie. I heard the booze, I
heard pad because.
Speaker 4 (01:13:35):
Of Adam Schefter at halftime decided to say, oh, your
quarterback that you think is coming, Yeah, he ain't coming.
Speaker 2 (01:13:40):
He's retiring. Well Johnson.
Speaker 3 (01:13:43):
With that happening, some people wondered if indeed Joe Burrow
was kind of hinting at that.
Speaker 4 (01:13:49):
So he just turned twenty nine the other day, that
feels weird. But actually that feels really weird because remember
he's only been in the league for five years, sure,
so I mean he was in college for five so
still like you look at Josh Allen, you look at
all these other guys who are drafted ahead of him,
and they're like twenty eight.
Speaker 2 (01:14:06):
Right, So that's the weird part.
Speaker 3 (01:14:08):
So Burrow, you know, has had an injury riddled career obviously,
and he's playing in Cincinnati and they haven't had a
ton of postseason success other than the AFC title run
that one year and get to the Super Bowl, nearly
winning the Super Bowl over the Rams that year. Out
in LA and Burrow talking about his future and saying
(01:14:29):
that point blank is going to keep playing. He needs
to enjoy it.
Speaker 2 (01:14:33):
Do I want to keep doing this? I have to
have fun doing it.
Speaker 11 (01:14:39):
You know, I've been through a lot, and if it's
not fun, then what am I doing it for?
Speaker 2 (01:14:45):
So that's the mindset I'm trying to bring to the table.
Speaker 3 (01:14:50):
So people wondering if that is a signal of him saying, hey,
guess what you're seeing the end of me?
Speaker 4 (01:14:56):
No, no, no, that's not even remotely true. Dan, It's
the end of his time in Cincinnati. He's getting demanded
to trade this offseason.
Speaker 2 (01:15:05):
He has to.
Speaker 4 (01:15:07):
Why don't you This is an organization that Carson Palmer said,
if you decide not to get rid of me, I
would rather retire than play another down for your organization.
Speaker 2 (01:15:18):
They're cheap.
Speaker 4 (01:15:19):
They don't put enough emphasis in building around the offensive line.
They try to They try to cut corners by keeping
hold of coaches that don't belong there anymore. They try
to go ahead and make these lucrative deals that never
seem to pan on out they swing and miss on talent,
and the talent that they don't swing and miss on
ninety percent of the time they let them walk out
the door. They hold onto players far too long because
of the history of the nostalgia factor with it, and
(01:15:42):
you don't have an offensive line that can protect him.
Speaker 2 (01:15:44):
He's dealt with injuries, he's.
Speaker 4 (01:15:46):
Dealt with turmoil, he's dealt with the he's dealt with
the competence surrounding him. And the only thing that they've
ever really done for him to say, we're not going
to draft an offensive lineman. We're gonna get your quarterback
or your wide receiver from college. You two can build
a report that shown one year in the Super Bowl,
one year of the playoffs, two years of being outside
the postseason.
Speaker 3 (01:16:05):
Well we can probably along with obviously the line's share
of the conversation being about the Texans, talk about that.
Philip rivers much more. With our next guest. You see
him every single Sunday. It's part of Game Day Morning
on NFL Network. Steve Weish from NFL Network going to
hop on with us right here on the morning Drive.
Speaker 2 (01:16:22):
With Dan and Cole.
Speaker 3 (01:16:24):
But before we get Steve got to remind you of
this being day two of our Saint Jude Radiothon presented
by Gallery Furniture and a chance for you to become
a partner in Hope by pledging just nineteen dollars a
month to help kids at Saint Jude facing cancer. Put
your gift on a card and you're gonna get a
new Saint Jude. Music gives a T shirt.
Speaker 2 (01:16:43):
I'm wearing it. I've got it up on the Instagram.
Speaker 3 (01:16:45):
I got it up on the Twitter account yesterday on
both I showed off the.
Speaker 2 (01:16:48):
Hoodie that I was wearing too. Music gives with that.
Speaker 3 (01:16:52):
Both of those come your way when you become a
partner in Hope to help out Saint Jude's by calling
right now at one eight hundred five eight eight one
four three three one eight five eight eight one four
three three again one eight zero zero five eight eight
one four three three to become a partner in Hope
and help out Saint Jude as part of our Saint

Speaker 2 (01:17:17):
Houston A TV HD two Houston.
Speaker 1 (01:17:22):
A Rocket.
Speaker 8 (01:17:24):
Is Sports Talk seven ninety your home for your home
teams and iHeartRadio stations guaranteed Youman.
Speaker 1 (01:17:35):
This is the Morning Drive with Dad.
Speaker 3 (01:17:39):
And Cole, NFL Networks Steve Wish shopping home with us
here on this Friday Steve hey Man, it's good to
hear from you again. It's been a while. Let's just
start off with the Texans. Five weeks ago, they were
three and five. Well now they're they're eight and five.
So obviously we do the math of how things have
(01:18:00):
gone between now and then. Anything necessarily surprised you about
this five game stretch with them, I.
Speaker 5 (01:18:07):
Think consistency and you know, not so much the evolution.
But I tell you, you got to credit Davis Mills
and this team for rallying around him to kind of
kickstarted with those three wins, you know, two of the
dramatic comebacks, and then people picking up from that point.
Speaker 7 (01:18:23):
I mean CJ.
Speaker 5 (01:18:23):
Stroud came in has played really well. The running game
is better, but I mean the one thing that that's
worked has been the constant, and that's the defense.
Speaker 6 (01:18:32):
And once they got.
Speaker 5 (01:18:33):
Healthy and got everybody back and rolling, it has just
been overwhelmingly dominant. And that's why they're such a dangerous
football team right now.
Speaker 4 (01:18:41):
See when you look at this defense, they have been
such a dynamic force coming off of the edge. They
play great in coverage downfield, and the offense is starting
to find a little bit of momentum not enough to
where you feel like that they're taking over the AFC.
But last season I never felt like Houston could rely
just on its defense to win playoff games. And now
it feels like, given the right matchups and the uncertainty
(01:19:03):
of the AFC, the defense may be able to guide
this team all the way to its first conference title
appearance and maybe even a Super Bowl appearance.
Speaker 5 (01:19:12):
I think he nailed it, you know. I talked to
my colleague Brian Baldinger all the time about Detectans because
we love watching that defense, and we're both like, they
only need twenty points to win. They you know, and
I think you said something that's very important is what's
going on in the AFC. Right We've seen them take
down Buffalo. Kansas City is not the same team. There's
no great offensive juggernaut right now.
Speaker 7 (01:19:33):
In the AFC.
Speaker 5 (01:19:34):
I mean, I mean some of the better teams, the Chargers,
you know, they've got their issues with protections. The Broncos
are a great defense, much like Houston. They with ay
good enough offense. So I think all those factors and
the fact that Houston seems to be on the uptick offensively,
I know they're not great, but the running game has
(01:19:56):
gotten better with Woodie Marx and Chubb really forming a
nice tandem. You know, besides Nico Collins. You know, you've
got Higgins, You've got some of these guys that are
starting to show up as receivers from time to time,
a little bit more than you were seeing early in
the season. So I think the fact that they're ascending
and we haven't seen them play their best offensively yet
as a positive sign.
Speaker 3 (01:20:16):
Again, he's Steve Wise, NFL Network. You see him every
Sunday morning, NFL Game Day mornings that start at eight
am Central Time, as part of the NFL Network as
their chief national reporter. Steve you mean, you know, just
keeping it going with the offense.
Speaker 10 (01:20:33):
Here.
Speaker 2 (01:20:34):
This is year three of c. J.
Speaker 3 (01:20:35):
Stroud and you know, the first year obviously taking the
league by storm last year, a little bit of missteps
here and there. What do you think you're seeing out
of him in year three?
Speaker 5 (01:20:45):
That's a great question. I think the injury disrupted things
for a little bit, but I think part of it,
and it's hard to say just him because you know,
they changed coordinators. The offensive line.
Speaker 6 (01:20:56):
Was in mess last year.
Speaker 5 (01:20:57):
It took a while to get going this year, But
it does seem like Nick Keyley is kind of finding
his stride as a play developer and a play caller,
and CJ and him are starting to mesh. And now
it's starting to mesh with the offensive line. We saw
last year there seemed to be an absolute disconnect between
the play design and the play call and the actual
(01:21:19):
execution of things, between the offensive line, the quarterback and
everything else. I think we saw that early on, but
again they're starting to mesh. It's starting to come together,
and I think that's really helped CJ out a little bit.
And I think him being out those games and seeing
Davis Mills kind of manage things and spread the ball
(01:21:39):
around play a little bit more point guard run when
he had to run it, I think that actually helped
cjstrive a little bit. I haven't talked to anybody who's
told me as much, but CJ was not playing great
football at the beginning of the year, and I think
he's finding his confidence and trusting things a little bit
right now. And again, the running game that's getting going,
it's not great, but it's worse when it has to.
(01:22:01):
I think that's helped the offensive line. Again, I think
it's helped the overall trust factor with CJ. Shroud and saying, Okay,
these guys can play. I can trust them. I can
throw it to this guy and he's going to make
the catch when I need it. That's why I say
they're ascending. I again, they clearly have not played their
best offensive football, and I think that's what should be
optimistic and they've got a couple of opponents coming up
(01:22:23):
as to where they can really get things right.
Speaker 4 (01:22:25):
You have a five game win streak right now going
into the matchup against Arizona. If they were to win
out nine straight wins to close out twenty twenty five,
they still might not win the division because Jacksonville has
currently got the tiebreaker at thirteen and four. But just
knowing that this team could end up being on a
nine game win streak with victories over multiple playoff teams,
does that make them the biggest threat in the AFC?
(01:22:47):
Because the momentum has completely been on their side since
mid October.
Speaker 5 (01:22:51):
One of them one of the biggest threats, I mean,
Denver is is you know, they're kind of a goliath
as well, in the same way that Houston is and dangerous.
You know, their division I think is a little tougher
to get through. But they're they're doing it. But i'd
be I don't. If I'm Houston, I don't. I don't
care if I have home field or not. I don't
care if I win the division or not. I mean
(01:23:13):
that defense can go anywhere and win. That's why I
don't think right now, to me, it's more about them
getting in than winning the division. I don't think they're
scared of Jacksonville. I don't think a lot of teams
the AFC would be scared of Jacksonville. But I do
think a lot of teams in the AFC have want
no part of the Houston Texans, especially in that scenario
that you just laid out again.
Speaker 3 (01:23:33):
NFL Network, Steve Wish hopping on with us here for
a few minutes on the morning Drive with Dan and Cole. Steve,
let's go to the NFL as a whole this weekend.
You know, you've got the Bills in Patriots taking on
each other, and you know, I know the Patriots are
another team we're talking about here in the AFC.
Speaker 2 (01:23:50):
How could the Texans fare against them?
Speaker 3 (01:23:52):
But a little surprised to see that as it was
brought up to Mike Rabel earlier this week, the Vegas
odds makers have Buffalo as the favorite in doing.
Speaker 9 (01:24:02):
I'm not that.
Speaker 5 (01:24:03):
I mean, I think we all are seen a law
of average is what the Patriots are won ten straight.
I believe like at some point the law of averages
is going.
Speaker 6 (01:24:10):
To come down.
Speaker 5 (01:24:10):
They beat Buffalo earlier this year. I think, you know, again,
that's kind of a law of average play. And they
know Buffalo is a little bit more desperate than them,
especially because this you know, the Patriots have not sealed
the AFC East yet. But you know, the one thing
I love about the Patriots is they just don't beat themselves. Man,
(01:24:31):
They're so rock solid. Other than Drake may you know,
they don't have a bunch of Pro Bowlers on that team,
but they've got a roster that is a team. We're
seeing all around the NFL, all these talented teams that
are all these talented rosters that do not form a team.
I think the Patriots now have a team. They've got belief,
and they've got their quarterback. So this is going to
(01:24:51):
be a heck of a game. It's not going to
be a cake walk for Buffalo. And you guys saw
when they played the Houston Texans. If that offensive line
is not wor working, well, that's an issue and that's
going to be a challenge against his Patriots defense. This
is gonna be a great game.
Speaker 4 (01:25:05):
See if you just mentioned New England has its quarterback
in Drake may Cincinnati, they may not because yesterday the
comments that were made by Joe Burrow at twenty nine
years old, saying if I want to keep playing this game,
I gotta have fun with it. There's two ways to
think about it. And Dan maybe beliefs, Yeah, Dann Maybil believes, Hey, listen,
it's a names you'll like two point zero. I personally
believe it's a Carson Palmer two point zero where.
Speaker 2 (01:25:27):
I've done more with you exactly. So so when you
heard that, does that.
Speaker 4 (01:25:31):
Make it seem like, hey, guys, I appreciate you drafting
me number one overall and I want to represent the
state of Ohio, but you got to build around me.
Speaker 2 (01:25:38):
You're not willing to do that. I have to look
out for my career at this point.
Speaker 5 (01:25:43):
Well, I disagree with the fact that I'm saying you're
not building around me. Because he wanted to keep his receivers,
and they paid his receivers. They paid it, Jamar did
paid Jamar Chase, they paid Pee Higgins. So he can't
sit there until you're not building around me. Sure, what
he can't say is like, you need to give me
a better defense, and you need to help out with
this offensive line. Draft better, right, be more creative with
(01:26:05):
the circumstances you have around the salary scale, the way
that's so top heavy. You know, teams like Philadelphia have
done it. Teams like the forty nine ers have paid
their players and found ways to draft and develop. I'm
hoping that Joe Burrow just had a crappy day when
he said there's a lot of things going on. I'm
hoping he just had a crappy day and was venting.
(01:26:27):
But he's a very calculated young man, and I think,
you know, he's either saying we got some guys in
this locker room that you better get out of here,
or else I'm gonna be like Carson Palmer and go
sit on my couch and put you guys in a bind.
Because the one thing, and you know the Carson Palmer situation,
this is the same organization with the same leadership. They
(01:26:49):
will stare him down and lose ball games rather than
move him because he's unhappy.
Speaker 2 (01:26:56):
Again.
Speaker 3 (01:26:56):
Steve Weiss has spent a couple more minutes with him.
He is the NFL Networks chief national reporter. You can
see him every single Sunday morning starting at eight o'clock
hour time on the NFL Network as part of NFL
Game Day Morning. And Steve forty four years old playing quarterback.
What do you think the prospects are for Philip Rivers,
(01:27:17):
if indeed Shane Steichen does go with them Sunday in Seattle.
Speaker 5 (01:27:22):
Well, I don't think they brought him back if your
hood ornament, I think they brought him back to playing.
So it's it's interesting to me, man, because I'm like
forty four, you know, I'm at the gym. I'm freaking
killing it. And then I see to myself like, there
is no way right now I can step out conditioning
wise and anything else you play football game. And so
(01:27:44):
we'll see he's not Philip smart. He's not going to
do this if he doesn't think he can take the
hits and conditioning wise play for four quarters. But that
defense he's going up against some stuff, Yeah, you can,
you can execute it. On filming, on paper. But you know,
when you've got some of those guys, you see how
he's got one of the best teams in the NFL,
I think their favorite to come out of the NFC.
(01:28:06):
When you're dealing with that smoke, it's it's gonna be interesting,
gonna be a great, great story if he comes back
and he has some success and it actually will strengthen
his Hall of Fame chances when he's back eligible again
in five years, because he's reset the clock if he's activated.
But man, this this is to take five years off
(01:28:29):
and to come back, and it started with you know,
gets this opponent more power to him. Let's let's see
how it works.
Speaker 4 (01:28:35):
See if I'm gonna be completely aust here man, when
we hear about comeback player of the year, we're thinking
of a guy coming off of injury. If he goes
out there and plays one game, gets a win. Is
that not the epitome of what is comeback player of
the year. The dude was on the couch and quite
literally about a month ago, welcoming in his first grandchild.
Now he's on his way to maybe save the season
(01:28:57):
for Indianapolis. After Daniel Jones went down like, that's got
to be the top candidate for Comeback Player of the
Year of the century at.
Speaker 5 (01:29:03):
This it will, it will start some conversation.
Speaker 1 (01:29:06):
It will not.
Speaker 5 (01:29:07):
It will not get him the Comeback Player of the
Year because you know it'll be a small body of work.
Speaker 9 (01:29:12):
However, we've seen.
Speaker 5 (01:29:13):
Guys come and play partial seasons like Ryan Tannehill a
couple of years ago and win that honor so ill
they'll have to create a new award for Philip Rivers
if he does something.
Speaker 2 (01:29:23):
Like this, no doubt about it.
Speaker 3 (01:29:25):
And you know, I think the best answer of the
week from him, Steve was as a guy who had
put on weight and trying to lose weight, that's the
answer you give when you know you've put on weight.
Speaker 2 (01:29:35):
Hey, what's your weight? I'm I'm not really even sure
that's that's the that's the that's the tall right, I'm
saying the overs at two sixty or where are you at? Steve?
Is he is? He two forty two fifty? He pushing
three bills at this point.
Speaker 5 (01:29:49):
He's not pushing three bills. But as a grandfather myself,
I know the I know the battle of the uh,
the diet discipline. I'll put it that way is a
significant one.
Speaker 3 (01:30:00):
No question about it. The struggle is always real, no question.
Steve Steve wis again NFL Network. He is the NFL
Networks chief national reporter, and again look for him this
Sunday morning, starting at eight o'clock local time on NFL
Network as part of NFL Game Day Morning. Steve, Hey,
it's great to catch up with you again. We'll have
to do this again here pretty soon.
Speaker 5 (01:30:22):
Absolutely, guys, have a great weekend.
Speaker 2 (01:30:23):
Same to you appreciate against Steve Wise.
Speaker 3 (01:30:25):
Yeah, I mean, as I've said that, that's the answer
you give, you know, because my cousin used to always
do that to me, what you know, Hey, what are
you weighing now? He played He played football funny enough
for Jack Harbaugh, Jim and John's dad at Western Kentucky,
and he used to always you know, hey, what are
you weighing now? And I just be like John, I
don't know, Like I I don't know, man like it.
It finally got to a point like whereas just I
(01:30:47):
went Nick Saban, Maria Taylor on him, I'm not going
to just a question. I'm not going to so quit asking.
Come on, No, I finally, I finally I finally did.
I finally just went John, I'm fat. Okay, thanks, I'm fat.
Speaker 10 (01:30:59):
I got it? Do you?
Speaker 2 (01:31:00):
His teammates are saying, hey, Philip Rivers your fat. No,
of course they're not.
Speaker 4 (01:31:04):
You don't want to disrespect a forty four year old
that they know is playing his last moments on Earth.
Speaker 2 (01:31:08):
It's gonna happen this weekend. I'm I'm going back. I'm
going back to being pessimistic about this. He's not gonna die.
He over a seven one three two one two five
seven ninety.
Speaker 4 (01:31:17):
Are we going to watch Philip Rivers go out in
a blaze of glory this weekend and not make it
back home to Indianapolis?
Speaker 2 (01:31:22):
Well, I guess Alabama would be actually the whole I
was gonna say, yeah, if he if he goes back
to Lower Alabama LA as they call it there in Alabama.
Why do they call it down there in LA Lower Alabama?
Nobody calls it that. Yeah, nobody calls it that. People
who are from you know, Spanish fort in those areas
and they're like, yeah, so you're telling me that a
person from Mobile right now is like, oh I live
in LA. No, I mean you just say it lower
(01:31:44):
or probably just mobile would be my saying. Nobody calls
it lower out.
Speaker 3 (01:31:48):
But if somebody, if somebody just say, you know, just
drops on the face of the earth and is like,
you know, oh, where's Mobile, It's like, man, it's in
Lower Alabama.
Speaker 4 (01:31:55):
I was gonna say, but you say lower Alabama, you
don't say La because then people are gonna go.
Speaker 2 (01:31:59):
Out look for the hollywy. You could even say c
a coastal Alabama. No, absolutely not. There is no way
I would ever call it the coastal Alabama.
Speaker 4 (01:32:07):
That's like saying that Stanford belongs in the in the
Atlantic Coastal Conference, and it makes sense.
Speaker 2 (01:32:12):
They're in the exact same level of conversation. Look, I
don't live there, all right. I just drive through every
once in a while when going to Orange Beach or Destined.
That's all.
Speaker 5 (01:32:18):
It is.
Speaker 2 (01:32:19):
Not a thirty A guy. I'm not putting a thirty
A sticker on the back of my car. But are
you a Florabama guy? Love Flora Obama? Do you like
the Bushwhackers? Now I hadn't been to Bushwickers.
Speaker 10 (01:32:28):
No you had?
Speaker 4 (01:32:29):
Have you had a bushwack? No, you've never had a bushwhacker.
It's not going to change the answer. No, I'm genuinely
just surprised. If you go to Flora, Bama. That's like
the drink of choice up there.
Speaker 2 (01:32:38):
I was just drinking light. What do you mean you
just drinking light?
Speaker 4 (01:32:41):
When you go to flor Bama, you're supposed to get
carried out by your buddies.
Speaker 2 (01:32:45):
Okay, well, then I'll do it right next time.
Speaker 4 (01:32:46):
How that you know what we're gonna go to flor Bama,
I will make sure that I carry you out if
you've had about thirteen bushwacks.
Speaker 3 (01:32:52):
We'll just make sure that you know we finish up
on the Alabama side, because that's the side that says
open a little bit later. To keep that in mind,
because it's right there right between floor in Alabama. The
Florida side closes earlier. So then go back over to Alabama.
Speaker 2 (01:33:04):
Seven seven ninety.
Speaker 4 (01:33:06):
Back to the main question of the day, who is
your favorite Heisman Trophy winner? But also I want to
ask you does Philip Rivers survive playing against Seattle? Because
I gotta tell you I receive he's not there. Just
to go ahead and hold a clipboard. He's there to
start come Sunday.
Speaker 2 (01:33:20):
We'll chop that up.
Speaker 3 (01:33:20):
Also to some of the Texans notes that we talked
about with Steve and also gets you involved, as Cole
just said at seven one three two one two five
seven ninety getting choked up thinking about it.
Speaker 2 (01:33:33):
That's what it is.
Speaker 3 (01:33:34):
As we continue here on the morning drive with Dan
and Cole, I don't even know if I finish up
the number. So here he is again, seven one three
two one two five seven ninety seven one three two
one two five seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (01:33:44):
You know what, it's a Friday. What do you want
from me?
Speaker 3 (01:33:46):
But what you what you could want from me is
to be able to help out with the Saint Jude
Radiothon presented by Gallery Furniture. In a way you can
do that is by becoming a partner. And hope you
pledge just nineteen dollars a month. Now, I know Cole
laid out this scenario for you, but you know, look,
with the dollar the way it is these days, nineteen dollars,
what do you think that gets you? It might get
you lunch one day, it might get you a couple
(01:34:09):
of days of coffee at your favorite coffee place. All
I'm asking you to do is maybe forego that for
a day or two that's all I'm asking you to
do to be able to help out kids facing cancer
at Saint Jude.
Speaker 2 (01:34:19):
And when you pledge that nineteen dollars a month and
you put that gift on your card, you're gonna get
a new Saint Jude T shirt that says music Gives.
And the same deal with the hoodie to zip up Hoddy.
Speaker 3 (01:34:28):
It's a really nice one and it will be yours
when you give that nineteen dollars a month to help
out Saint Jude. How do you give one eight hundred
five eight eight one four three three one eight hundred
five eight eight one four three three. That's one eight
zero zero five eight eight one four three three to
become a partner in hope.
Speaker 2 (01:34:47):
Today and help out the kids at Saint Jude.
Speaker 8 (01:34:52):
Dan Matthews, Cole Thompson, this is the Morning Drive with
Dan and Cold.
Speaker 2 (01:35:01):
Texans.
Speaker 3 (01:35:01):
One more full day of practice, get ready for the
Arizona Cardinals on Sunday at NRG Rockets win in last
night one thirteen over the Clippers at Toyota Center, and
the Heisman answers as we threw out for our Morning
Drive Question of the Day honor of the Heisman Trophy
being given out.
Speaker 2 (01:35:18):
Who's your favorite Heisman Trophy winner?
Speaker 3 (01:35:20):
You said, Reggie Bush, I said, Joe Burrow, triple going
with Baker Mayfield.
Speaker 2 (01:35:24):
Let's see some of the answers. See one with a
gift herschel Walker as their favorite, another one, Andre Ware
good one, Earl Campbell another one, and then of course
Ricky Williams, and then one with the Johnny Manziel doing
the October's very own Johnny Manziel on there too. Desmond
(01:35:44):
Howard's on there as well. Desmond Howard is there.
Speaker 3 (01:35:48):
I see that too, So keep them coming at Sports
Talk seven ninety on Twitter. If you want to be
able to weigh in on the Morning Drive question of
the day, well, Fillip Rivers die on Sunday three two
on two five seven ninety is the number to get
in Ray in Miami.
Speaker 2 (01:36:04):
Good morning, Ray, Hey, good morning guys.
Speaker 12 (01:36:08):
Before I talk about Philip living or dying, Kevin Durant,
we're giving you forty five million dollars a year. You
ruin my parlay every night for at least twenty points.
Speaker 10 (01:36:20):
Man.
Speaker 12 (01:36:21):
You had sixteen points in a few minutes left. I said, okay,
he's going to get to twenty. He never get twenty.
You're the one that I pick first, and you're the
one that ruins my parlay every time.
Speaker 4 (01:36:32):
See, Ray probably agrees with me on the fact that
last night Bucky Irving's supposed to get me fourteen points,
he got me eleven, and I'm allowed to be upset
about that.
Speaker 2 (01:36:39):
See we're on the same page right.
Speaker 6 (01:36:42):
Now.
Speaker 12 (01:36:43):
Now, Philip, if you live, Philip, you're going to inspire
other people to want to come back. Now, my three
Houston players that I want to come back. I want
Dwayne Brown to take a physical and come suit up
and block a CJ. I want t Mac to take
a physical and come back and play with k D.
And I want roy OL's walk to be in West
(01:37:03):
Palm for spring training.
Speaker 10 (01:37:04):
Just see what he steel got.
Speaker 2 (01:37:07):
There we go, I like you appreciate it. Ray, one
of them I agree with one hundred percent and fine
with Roy's hocking bourbon. Now he's got his own bourbon out,
so I know that.
Speaker 3 (01:37:19):
I think Matt Thomas and Ross had him on last
year to talk about his bourbon, so you know he's
in the bourbon business.
Speaker 2 (01:37:24):
Roy's good is he sitting at at eight in the
morning to talk about royos while coming back after ten
to fifteen years, I'm sure.
Speaker 3 (01:37:30):
But remember Royo's wall too. Was a guy that had
a shoulder impingement. Was working on a truck one off
season and actually accidentally touched a wire that was grounded. Yeah,
and it shocked him back where he fell back from
the truck and then he started to feel his shoulder
and he's like, shoulder doesn't hurt anymore.
Speaker 2 (01:37:44):
Yeah, the pain was gone. I remember that story now.
Speaker 4 (01:37:46):
Dwayne Brown, though, I actually would listen to because if
you could have him as even a death piece, more
than happy with that.
Speaker 3 (01:37:52):
So Dwayne, if you're out there and you're feeling it
and you know, and you feel like you can still
do the shuffle shuffle shuffle, throw the hands, well then
there you go.
Speaker 2 (01:37:59):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (01:37:59):
But you also you're gonna remind yourself with offensive lineman.
What's the first thing that they do as soon as
they're done retiring. Oh, they're the greatest weight losers on
the planet. It quite literally is shocking to see guys
like Joe Thomas, who used to be like three hundred
pounds of pure muscle now look like Ethan soup Lee.
Speaker 3 (01:38:13):
That's the thing I mean, you see these guys like
we're soon enough. They look like they can run marathons,
and it's just like, wait a minute, you used to
play offensive line.
Speaker 15 (01:38:19):
You know.
Speaker 4 (01:38:19):
The sad thing is I bet you Joe Thomas at
that weight probably could have played it, could have ran
a marathon, and I went the complete opposite direction.
Speaker 3 (01:38:25):
Go figure, right, all right, So let's continue the NFL
conversation because Trevor Sikama from Pro Football Focus, he's gonna
hop on with us. That's coming up right here. It
is the Morning Drive Dan and Cole Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 4 (01:38:37):
Become a partner and hope by pledging just nineteen dollars
a month over at the Saint Judereathon presented by Gallery Furniture.
Speaker 2 (01:38:43):
It's really simple.
Speaker 4 (01:38:44):
It's easy to go ahead and sign on up pledging
just nineteen bucks a month. That's part literally a week's
worth of coffee to help kids fighting cancer at Saint Jude. Currently,
the Tope board presented by Oak Harvest Financial Group is
at over three hundred and thirty two dollars, but we
need twenty nine partners to signing up by nine a m.
(01:39:05):
So we've already given you, you know, a free hoodie.
We've already given you a free music give shirt.
Speaker 2 (01:39:09):
How about I sweeten the deal just a little bit
more if you call on in to this number one
eight hundred five eight eight one four three three Again
one eight hundred five eight eight one four three three,
A four pack of Astros dugout tickets for twenty twenty
six is in your disposals.
Speaker 4 (01:39:25):
Simply put you signing up right now. For one eight
hundred and five eight eight one four three three you
get a four pack of Astros tickets for the twenty
twenty sixth season. The date will be mutually agreed upon
base off of availability. And maybe you can't call in
all right, no problem, we get it. You're busy, you

type the word kits k I DS kids to six

two six two text the word kids to click the
link and help out with Saint Jude Financial Center right now.
Make sure that you go ahead and help out with
Saint Jude with kids finding cancer this holiday season.
Speaker 2 (01:40:03):
This is Joyce Botta listening to the Astros on your
radio and on the free iHeartRadio app. Sports Talk seven
ninety is your home. Phil Astros Baseball. The Rockets last night,
winning one thirteen over the Clippers at Toyota Center.
Speaker 4 (01:40:19):
One of the greatest minds in the NFL, especially when
it comes to NFL Draft coverage. Trevor Sikima joins us
right here on the Morning Drive. Trevor, good morning, my dude,
and uh, let's just start.
Speaker 2 (01:40:29):
Off with this.
Speaker 4 (01:40:30):
Texans five weeks ago, look dead in the water. Davis
Mills leads a twenty It leads a twenty nine point comeback,
ian twenty six point comeback against Jacksonville. They're in the
driver's seat five game win streak, potentially a six game
win streak over Arizona this week. In your opinion, what's
been the biggest turnaround for this team?
Speaker 6 (01:40:48):
Yeah, I think that, to be honest with you, during
that stretch, well one, you got to give all credit
to Davis Mills, because without his performances over those couple
of games, I mean, they're not in this spot. But
to be honest with you, I think it's the offensive
line playing a little bit better now. They're not coming
off of a great game recently, but I just think
that in the middle of the season. I would say
over the better half of the last month month and
(01:41:09):
a half, they haven't been one of the worst offensive
lines in the NFL. And that was our big worry
about this team right coming into the season.
Speaker 9 (01:41:16):
You get ready to layer.
Speaker 6 (01:41:17):
Mey tunsl You don't really have a lot of options.
They throw a lot of new bodies at the offensive
line and they're just kind of like, hey, you know,
we'll be able to find our best five here, and
it doesn't always work as much of a guarantee like that,
and I think that it was really a struggle for them,
especially with some of those young guys earlier in the season.
But as of late, they have started to come along
(01:41:37):
and play better as a group. That's the thing with Houston.
It's always been, you don't have to be a top
ten offensive line, just don't be bottom five. And I
think the rest of this defense and CJ. Stroud and
Eagle Collins will be able to carry you a little
bit here. So to me, it's just the offensive line
raising that floor a little bit.
Speaker 3 (01:41:54):
Trevor, you guys, I mean, obviously you're very much into
the metrics over at Pro Football Focus. So these last
five weeks. The defense has obviously really stepped up for
the Texans. What's a metric that maybe a time or
two you've seen with this defense and you've looked at
it and said, oh man, that's kind of interesting.
Speaker 10 (01:42:11):
Wow.
Speaker 6 (01:42:11):
I mean, it's the obvious one, but it starts with
the guys who are generating the pressure up front. I
just think that overall, it's such an elite game plan
that they have that is coming to fruition here with
the guys on their roster. It's been a really good
job with with Stereo, with with Imigo, Ryan's you know,
drafting these team, getting the right players in here, and
(01:42:31):
Will Anderson being the constant constant for them on the
defensive line. I mean that's not to say that Daniel
Hunter hasn't, but specifically, I mean he's having a defensive
Player of the Year type of year. If Miles Garrett
wasn't having one of the greatest seasons we've ever seen
in NFL history, Will Anderson Junior would absolutely be right there.
He's got above a twenty percent passes win percentage, he's
got an elite pass rush great on the season, Like,
(01:42:52):
all of the stuff is there for him to be
a major difference maker. And when you go into the
when you go into a week to week matchup, where
the very first thing that the offensive coordinator and that
the quarterback have to think about is is we have
to be very afraid of those two guys on the edge. Well, now,
all of a sudden, now you're allowing the two outside
corners to be able to play exactly.
Speaker 2 (01:43:12):
The game that they want.
Speaker 6 (01:43:13):
They've got the talent with guys like Kamari Lasser and
Derek Singley Junior to be able to play that trueman
coverage on the outside. They have Kaylen Bullock, who I
think is doing a great job exactly what you wanted
him to be when you drafted him, which is be
that true center fielder type of a defender. So you
talk about the rate at which they're running a lot
of single high stuff. Not a lot of teams in
the NFL are doing this right. I mean, you go
(01:43:35):
back maybe ten years ago during the cover three, Cover
one era, that was all the rage of the NFL.
But over the last five years it's really gravitating more
towards two high stuff to more deep quarter stuff. You
just don't want to give these quarterbacks the ability to
beat you over the top. Well, the fact of the
matter is Houston is allowing themselves to play a very
aggressive style of defense. Specifically I think because they have
(01:43:56):
Bullock back there to be able to play that single
high role, so they're playing that higher clip than most
teams are in the NFL. And then that all leads
up to my favorite element of this team, allowing Jalen
Petrie to just be out of his mind and run
all over the field and just go off of straight
instincts where we see an elite performance. He got an
(01:44:16):
elite PFF grade for US last week, and I think
that those are the things he's able to do when
he's able to play so fast and free. So I
think that, you know, going back to your question, the
statistics of the consistent pressure generated just one of the
top pressure teams in the NFL, especially from those edge spots,
put such a mental stress on the game plan of
the offense. It's that man coverage, single coverage high coverage
(01:44:39):
grade from both Kamari Lasster and Derek Stingley Junior. Then
paired with the interceptions the take away ability of a
guy like Kaylen Bullock and what that means for Jalen
Petrie as well. So to me, it's not even just
a singular stat. It really is just a couple of
those stats coming together and really being so complimentary of
each other for this team.
Speaker 4 (01:44:59):
Trevor, You' background is in the NFL draft, and believe me,
you are the best of doing it in the business.
And I'll tell you right now that you look at
this team, they've been able to hit in rounds two,
rounds three underneath Nickossario. But but in your opinion, who's
been the guy that stood on out in this recent
draft class that's been an X factor for Houston.
Speaker 6 (01:45:17):
Well, I think that I have to look at Arianta
Ersrie just because of what has been put on his plate, right,
I mean, like it hasn't been the best year from him.
He doesn't have the best PFF grades, but it's the
fact that he's been able to stabilize himself when they
have really needed him. They don't really have any other options,
and so obviously it's a rookie class that guys have
(01:45:37):
been able to play pretty well. Obviously Woody Marshby able
to step up is huge for this team and they've
really needed somebody with dynamic ability just the threat out
of the backfield, and I think that he's been able
to bring that, even though it's not, you know, as
constant as it is for other teams, it's been enough
at times to be that complimentary piece that they needed
it to be. He helps out in the receiving game,
(01:45:58):
which is certainly a lust for them, but I just
think that from what they are asked to do, I
feel as though Ursery being able to sort of be
thrown into the fire at the beginning of the season.
And I remember down and when I was in Tampa
Bay cover in the Tampa Bay busan yeers, I used
to talk to a former offensive lineman there. His name
is Ian Beckles, and he knew that I was big
(01:46:18):
into the draft, and you know, every off season we
talked about draft guys and he'd hear me get so excited.
He'd be like, oh, no, no, but if they draft
this guy, then they can plug him in right away.
He'd be fantastic. And he slowed me to be a
hold Trevor. I need you to know, rookies suck until
they don't, and so that's just it's it's a funny
little check that he gave me there to where it's like, Okay,
(01:46:41):
you're right. These guys as rookies, they're supposed to struggle,
and so when they do, that's the expectation. You just
want to see them grow and bounce back. And so
to throw a guy to the Wolves at the beginning
of the season and for him to have a couple
of games here over the last month, month and a
half where he has been improving, I think it's been
huge for this team, going back to the very first
question of how much offensive line play and figuring that
(01:47:05):
out has really meant to them being in this spot
here in the month of December.
Speaker 2 (01:47:09):
Yeah, Trevor.
Speaker 3 (01:47:09):
One of those rookies, Jayden Higgins, has been counted on
a lot more these last few weeks. What do you
think he projects to be during the final four game
stretch of the Texans season.
Speaker 6 (01:47:20):
No, I think that you know, you're projecting sort of
him getting closer to that ceiling of what you envisioned
him when he was your top draft choice this past year,
and that is the exact compliment that you need, and
beyond just a compliment to Nico Collins. I think that
some people, myself included, have used that phrase and some
people will think of it as like, oh, okay, well
(01:47:40):
that means that you know he's going to play second fiddle.
You know, he's going to be somebody who, you know,
what he does has to play well to what Collins
is doing. And there's a little bit of truth to
that because of how good Collins this is a wide
receiver won. But Jayden Higgins, man, I mean, you watch
him when he was at Iowa State. It wasn't the
most potent passing attack in the world, but when they
needed a guy to go up and make a big
play able to do it. He's got such great fluidity
(01:48:02):
and and explosiveness or a player of his size, with
his length, that brings him a lot of mismatched potential
at whatever he is doing. And so Higgins is also
somebody who I think is can certainly be in for
a big finish here, right, I mean, because the potential
is there for him. And I always figured that it
was probably going to be a little bit more of
a year two, year three thing when it comes to Higgins.
(01:48:23):
But there's a chance where, man, if he finishes this
season strong, certainly if they get into the playoffs as well,
He's got the ability to hit the ground run next
season and we could be talking about such a such
a talented wide receiver group that's all going to be
able to put it together in twenty twenty seven.
Speaker 2 (01:48:40):
He's Trevor Sickoma.
Speaker 4 (01:48:41):
Give him a follow on Twitter at Tampa Bay Tray,
lead NFL draft analyst for Pro Football Focus, and also
the co host some one of the best podcasts out
there in the NFL. Stocking Sangs, Trevor, I got to
ask you. I knew how talented he was coming out
of Georgia, but how impressive you been mccamari Laster from
year one to year two?
Speaker 1 (01:48:58):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:48:59):
It so with Lassiter.
Speaker 6 (01:49:02):
When you have a corner who man coverages their bread
and butter, it's so hard in the NFL to be
good at that right away. And I think that people
look at Laster last season, you know, it's pretty up
and down for him, and there were good moments, but
there were bad moments. And I think that the people
went into this offseason maybe think that the jury was
(01:49:22):
still out on Kamara last year. But here in year two,
he is settling in so so well. And I think
that as a Florida Gator guy, this hurts me to
stay but Kirby Smart just has such an incredible program
there at Georgia where you are mentally and physically prepared
to be a pro. And there are so many of
these players at Georgia that when they step on the field,
(01:49:45):
they're not overwhelmed in either of those areas. It doesn't
take them a little bit of time to get up
the speed, yes, of course, but you gave Kamari Lasster
the appropriate amount of time and now we're seeing what
we have in this player, and that is a starting
NFL corner and somebody to can a big difference maker.
It forms one of the best cornerback duos in the NFL,
no question about it, with him on one side and Stingley.
Speaker 1 (01:50:06):
On the other.
Speaker 6 (01:50:07):
So to me, cornerback play, when you're drafted early as
a corner in the NFL, there's almost a one hundred
percent chance that you were a great athlete. That you
have the size that you have, the strength that you have,
the explosiveness, the fluidity, the movement skills to be able
to play at the pro level. Teams just don't draft
defensive backs that aren't great athletes with their top picks.
(01:50:29):
So when you draft a player like that, you know
that that is within them at that point. What the
difference between the guys who make it and the guys
who don't is of course guys who could pick it up,
but more importantly, guys who have that confidence. When you
were a corner you got to have a little bit
of a screw loose in your head. You gotta believe
that you were the baddest dude on the football field
the second that you step on it. And that's that
(01:50:50):
cornerback mentality, and you have to have that because of
the nature of the job. Right it's a lot like baseball,
you lose a lot, you know, It's it's it's a
phrase where it's like, oh, you know, if you if
you get on base four out of ten times, you're
a Hall of Famer, And like, that's kind of how
it is at corner. You know you're just going to fail.
It's part of the job. But how do you respond
to that? Do you keep your.
Speaker 2 (01:51:10):
Confidence up in that?
Speaker 6 (01:51:11):
And I think that Ryan's has set up such a
great culture and scheme to just instill so much confidence
in these players because once again, they understand the skill
set of guys that they are drafting. They're not just
drafting good football players. They're drafting good football players for
what they want to do, so that as they grow,
as they get into the system, they only get more
(01:51:33):
and more confident. And I think that's why you see
these jumps from guys like Petri and guys like Cayman
Bullocks and guys like Kamari Lassiter. You just see these
will Aerson obviously as somebody as well. You just see
these jumps leaps even in efficiency, effectiveness, difference making ability
when they get into year two and year three, because
they're in the right spot.
Speaker 4 (01:51:53):
Trevor, we got about thirty seconds in your opinion. In
a city known for its barbecue, what are the three
minimum side on your plate?
Speaker 9 (01:52:01):
So?
Speaker 6 (01:52:02):
Oh man, okay, come on, I can write dissertation. Mac
and cheese. I always, I always go with mac and cheese.
I'm a big barbecue baked beans guy. It's just when
I'm when I'm getting barbecue, I always feel like I
gotta get barbecue baked beans, and I'll flip. Normally I
flip the last one Coast Law or collars.
Speaker 9 (01:52:20):
One of the two.
Speaker 6 (01:52:21):
I feel like I go with collars more often than
Coast Law. But if the Coast Law looks good. I'm
not a coast law hater. Those are my three slash
four sides that I go with five fiver with the protein.
Speaker 3 (01:52:31):
I can ride with that. I mean, I'm a potato
salad guy. I know not everybody is. I totally get it, Trevor.
Speaker 4 (01:52:36):
I don't fly back with the collars at all. That
is a perfect compliment to any single side dish.
Speaker 10 (01:52:40):
There we go.
Speaker 3 (01:52:40):
Good stuff, Trevor Sikima again, Pro Football Focus, hopping on
with us here for a few minutes. Hey, trev I
appreciate the time man been following your work for years.
You do great stuff and look forward to hopefully having
you on again here pretty soon.
Speaker 6 (01:52:52):
I appreciate it guys, anytime.
Speaker 3 (01:52:54):
All right, take care again, Trevor Sikima again, Pro Football Focus.
I mean the beans. Yeah, I can see it's cole
slaws and know one of those that not everybody's for.
Speaker 2 (01:53:03):
I hate it. I think it's disgusting. There's not a
single thing I like about Coles. Look, I mean it's
it's it's an acquired taste.
Speaker 3 (01:53:08):
Now, I will say this, there are some you know,
barbecue places and actually, as a matter of fact, the
press box NRG every once in a while, will break
this out, the.
Speaker 2 (01:53:15):
Baked potato salad. There's some bacon in there. Let's go.
There's some chide. Is it just baked potatoes? Basically it's
just a baked potato. But as like potato salad. Yeah,
and it's fantastic. It's amazing. It's probably a C. It's
it's amazing. It's a definitely an A plus. Potato sound
already is just a B minus dish. No, I mean
that's fine.
Speaker 9 (01:53:35):
It look.
Speaker 2 (01:53:37):
A B plus because of it's big potato. It's it's
it's more for me and less for you. It's all good.
Speaker 3 (01:53:42):
You know, not everybody has to have it. It's not
all palettes are created equal coal.
Speaker 2 (01:53:46):
All right.
Speaker 3 (01:53:47):
A couple of things that Trevor mentioned there that I
do want to carry over. And then also to Aaron
Wilson from kp r C two and with us here
at Sports Talk seven nineties, our Texans insider, he's gonna
hop on with. So we got that much more here
to continue on the Morning Drive with Dan and Coles
Sports Talks seven ninety. But that partner and Hope goal,
I mean, we've got an incentive for you here in
(01:54:09):
the eight o'clock hour because we open the hour by
saying we needed twenty nine partners.
Speaker 2 (01:54:15):
In Hope, and Cole when he talked to you, last
mentioned that.
Speaker 3 (01:54:19):
Right now, we've got a four pack of Astros Dugout
seats for the twenty twenty sixth season and the date
will be mutually agreed upon based on availability for you
when you become a Partner in Hope today, So we're
giving you a chance to win Astros Dugout tickets.
Speaker 2 (01:54:32):
We're also giving you.
Speaker 3 (01:54:32):
A chance to get a Saint Jude Music Gives shirt
and also the hoodie that says music Gives on the back.
Speaker 2 (01:54:39):
Zip up.
Speaker 3 (01:54:39):
It's great, it's fantastic, cold tempts coming in. You're going
to absolutely be sporting that hoodie when you become a
Partner in Hope today. By pledging just nineteen dollars a
month to help the kids over at Saint Jude who
are fighting cancer. You put that gift on your card,
You get that T shirt, you get that hoodie when
you call one eight hundred five eight eight one four
three three five eight eight one four three three one
(01:55:03):
eight zero zero five eight eight one four three three
to help out the.
Speaker 2 (01:55:08):
Kids at Saint Jude Today, come back to.
Speaker 1 (01:55:11):
Dan cole as the morning Drive cruise is on.
Speaker 3 (01:55:16):
You get the Rockets win in last night, one fifteen,
one thirteen over the Clippers over at Toya Center, and
you're gonna get the Texans getting ready for the Arizona
Cardinals on Sundays. They get another day of practice out
there and a lot of injured guys back on the
field yesterday.
Speaker 2 (01:55:32):
So wait and see.
Speaker 3 (01:55:33):
On Kamari last year, one of the guys we talked
about with Trevor in terms of being one of the
improved guys. The thing that I love the most though,
is talking about ironte Arasi. We've seen that time and
time again this year where it's just been like, of course, ursery.
But then it's one of those you have to remind yourself, hey, hey, hey,
he's a rookie playing the hardest position on the offensive line. Okay,
(01:55:57):
it's just one of those like where you know you
want to slow down and just be like, hey, let's
calm everybody down.
Speaker 2 (01:56:02):
It's all good.
Speaker 4 (01:56:02):
Well, I'm not going to judge him based off his
first season and decide on if he's going to be
a long term answer at left tackle.
Speaker 2 (01:56:08):
I never thought that would be the case.
Speaker 4 (01:56:10):
And that's the thing is that you can't allow yourself
to go into the mindset of you're replacing a five
time pro bowler and you expect a rookie who has
a second round pick to be an immediate plug and
play starter and a better version over him.
Speaker 3 (01:56:21):
I would say that the concern level would go up
if you saw a lot more oops, and that's not
good as opposed to just moments, because I feel like
it's been really simplified down to just moments this season
that we've seen from him, where you're like, yep, rookie
left tackle, But.
Speaker 4 (01:56:39):
Like, think about it from the standpoint of who they've
gone up against, like the Texans over the last few weeks,
a guy like Lauzu Latsu, who's been a phenomenal pass
rusher that probably in the National Football League's public eye
does not get enough respect for how Wealkey wins his battles.
Speaker 2 (01:56:53):
That was somebody that TA had to go up against
on a regular basis.
Speaker 4 (01:56:56):
If he wins forty percent of his reps, you don't
feel pretty good about.
Speaker 2 (01:57:01):
The direction that you're going in.
Speaker 4 (01:57:02):
And again, you're going up against two of the better
all pro names in the industry, and Trevor said it,
and I completely agree. If Miles Garrett didn't exist this year,
Will Anderson Junior would be in the conversation as the
front runner for the defensive Player.
Speaker 2 (01:57:15):
Of the year.
Speaker 3 (01:57:16):
How good of a season he's had. He's going up
against him every single week. That was another thing from
the Pardon My Take interview that I saw with Demiko
where he talked about they do I think it's Wednesdays
is when they'll have the third down battle between the
offense and the defense.
Speaker 2 (01:57:29):
And he was like, I'm gonna be honest.
Speaker 3 (01:57:31):
For much of the season, which they shouldn't really surprise anybody,
but for much of the season it was the defense
that was winning him. But he said last couple of
weeks that CJ's come back, CJ's been winning them.
Speaker 4 (01:57:40):
I will say that the offensive line, it's not great.
It is and it needs improvement over the offseason. I
don't know if Nick Cassiro can fix it, but it
has been better than what even I expected when they
brought back in Trent Brown, when they were able to
finalize what they want to in the interior offensive line
with with Tay Titus Jake and and then and then
(01:58:01):
it feels a lot more cohesive. There is a good
understanding and at this point, so you just just got
to get the ball out in a timely vanner. You
do that, you're probably gonna avoid a lot of pressures.
Speaker 3 (01:58:10):
Well, we'll talk that much more with Aaron Wilson again
our Sports Talk seven ninety Texans Insider. He'll join us
to start the nine o'clock hour right here on the
Morning Drive with Dan and Cole will do that, and
also to remind you how you can be part of
our annual Saint Jude Radiothon, which is presented by Gallery
Furniture by becoming a partner and hope by pledging just
(01:58:32):
nineteen dollars a month to help out kids facing cancer
over at Saint Jude. And when you put that gift
on your card, you're gonna get a new Saint Jude
T shirt which you've seen me wearing it if you
follow me on social media, as well as the Saint
Jude hoodie that's out there and I had that on yesterday,
So again follow me on social media. You can see
exactly what your nineteen dollars a month is getting you.
(01:58:55):
When you become a partner in Hope today at Saint
Jude in the way that you do that very simple
a call right now, you got volunteers on the phone
lines waiting for you to call them and become a
partner at Hope at one eight hundred five eight eight
one four three three. That's one eight hundred five eight
eight one four three three one eight zero zero five
(01:59:15):
eight eight one four three three to become a partner
in Hope today and help out kids and families who
are facing cancer and help them get treatment from Saint Jude, AB.
Speaker 2 (01:59:27):
Houston, ADHD two Houston.
Speaker 8 (01:59:29):
The Astrostros, the Rockets, Rockets ask befall your home for
your home teams. This is Sports Talk seven ninety and
iHeartRadio Station Guaranteed Human.
Speaker 1 (01:59:45):
This is the Morning Drive with Dad and Cole.
Speaker 2 (01:59:54):
Six game road trip.
Speaker 3 (01:59:55):
First one in Denver taking on the Nuggets, and then
you get Texans back home gods like they haven't been
home in forever. They're gonna be taking on the Cardinals
over at in RG Stadium. We'll talk that much more
with our Texans insider here at Sports Talk seven to
ninety so Wealth as well as with KPRC too.
Speaker 2 (02:00:11):
He's Aaron Wilson. And Aaron.
Speaker 3 (02:00:13):
It seems like every single week when I lead us
off here, we asked the injury questions. So Cole is
of the belief that we're going to see the exact
same thing out of Kamari last year. He'll practice again
the day he'll give it a go on Sunday. All
is good, But are you feeling the same way? And
do we have anybody else that we believe might be
a question mark for Sunday.
Speaker 10 (02:00:32):
Right on the Kamari front, We're gonna be over there
at practice for a little bit, and if we see
him even on the field, I'm expecting him to play.
I've heard nothing behind the scenes that indicated that they
were going to do some sort of week off or
anything like that. Obviously there's some logic if they wanted
to do that, but he didn't have a setback with
the foot.
Speaker 7 (02:00:51):
So if it was good enough to.
Speaker 10 (02:00:53):
Play against the Chiefs and you're in the thick of
the playoff hunt looking to win your six game in
a row, why would you have one of your best
football players, regardless of position, missed the game. So I
don't anticipate him sitting out. I'll report as soon as
I see you know in the next hour and a
half is he going to be out there. But we've
(02:01:14):
heard no indication of him being held out of the game.
But do I think he's healthy enough and could play, Yes,
I do, And we are concerned in the sense that,
you know, I think Mick Chubb, I was aut of
a good veteran presence this year complimenting what he marks,
will miss the game, and that's one of the reasons
(02:01:35):
why they added Cody Schrader, and they have Dargo Bwallee,
who I think is going to be the second back
behind what he marks. The good news is what he
returned to practice looked fine, he said, He's just a
little sore, nothing like structurally wrong with his knees, just
a little the soreness he deals with. And I think
every week we're getting used to that, right, kind of
(02:01:56):
accustomed to what he might get dinged. But he's going
to go back and game and then he's gonna play
the following week. So he's a tough guy. He's just
not the biggest running back in the world and they're
asking him to have a pretty heavy workload for a
younger player that's not like a big time power back and.
Speaker 4 (02:02:14):
Look, I'm not going to fight back and say that
the Texans don't need to play starters out there, but
this is one of those games and next week two
against the two win Las Vegas Raiders team that if
they're limited or you don't want to rush them back,
you don't really have to utilize them to their full capacity.
Speaker 2 (02:02:28):
You need them for the final two games, not these two.
Speaker 4 (02:02:31):
And that kind of goes the same thing when it
comes to like prolonged starters. Nico Collins, Daniel Hunter or
Will Anderson Aaron in your opinion, who's the guy that
you're looking forward to see this week that maybe could
have a bigger role when it comes time for the postseason.
Speaker 10 (02:02:45):
Yeah, I mean looking at the defensive imposition, kind of
a quieter game than we thought they'd have against the
Chiefs because of their depleted offensive line. Got to give
them credit, they did a good job of those backups
against two blue chip guys and Will Anderson Junior and
Daniel Hunter. So I think this is kind of the
the you know, Paris Johnson's injured, This is a game
(02:03:08):
where I think those guys can put up some numbers
and I look for those guys to maybe get back
to business on Sunday in a home game that was
a bit of a frustrating game beyond the win for
two elite pass rushers again.
Speaker 3 (02:03:24):
Aaron Wilson, our Sports Talk seven ninety Texans insider, also
does some work with KPRC two. You can find him
on Twitter, Aaron Underscore Wilson NFL and Aaron c J.
Speaker 2 (02:03:34):
Stroud.
Speaker 3 (02:03:35):
Third quarter last week not great, but able to make
some adjustments and finish off the game strong with a
good fourth quarter. What are these next couple of weeks
mean for him going up against these two defenses.
Speaker 10 (02:03:46):
It's a term to fine tune some things. I mean,
you know, he said it, and so did Nick Kyley.
Nick Caley's got to get the play in sooner. You know,
you heard then Miika Rance talk about the urgency that
needs to be there, and.
Speaker 7 (02:03:59):
Then or CJ.
Speaker 10 (02:04:01):
I think that his accuracy is fine, but they've got
to protect it better. And there have been some overthrows
by him, yes, but overall, you know, I'm seeing a
quarterback that can make the plays.
Speaker 7 (02:04:11):
You know, he can.
Speaker 10 (02:04:12):
Scramble, but there should be some easier plays for them.
I mean, it's a really high degree of difficulty for
the Texans, and you know CJ said it quite well,
the pressure is not going to stop coming. It's going
to keep coming until they show they can defend that.
You know, they can block these guys, and you know,
the offensive lines made a lot of strives this year,
(02:04:34):
but you know there's some times where they just get dominated.
I think some of that is just Chris Jones taking
over the football game in that third corps. I think
he actually tired himself out with the exper news making.
But overall, yeah, there's some things to clean up on
this offense. I mean, you know, you get into a
playoff game and maybe what if the defense can't save
(02:04:55):
the day every time. This is the kind of things
that can injure season. I mean, this really is the obvi,
this Achilles heel of the football team. Even when you're
in a five game winning streak, there are problems and
they're kind of winning in spite of the offense, not
because of the offense.
Speaker 4 (02:05:11):
Aaron, I'm going to put you on the spot. I
do not believe in the Jacksonville Jaguars whatsoever. I think
the Texans eventually will overtake the division. And now you've
got Philip Rivers playing quarterback for the Colts. You'll be said,
do you still believe that Trevor Lawrence and that Liam
Cohen are going to be able to rattle off four
straight wins and finished the year thirteen and four.
Speaker 7 (02:05:30):
No, I just don't believe in them either. I mean,
I think you make it a great point because the
fact is Lawrence has lots of turnovers. There are really
if you look at their team, there's not.
Speaker 10 (02:05:41):
A lot of special Like who's their best football player overall?
Did Josh heinz Allen? Probably?
Speaker 6 (02:05:49):
Yeah?
Speaker 10 (02:05:49):
Rusher pretty consistent guy, real efficient, But you know, there's
no like real standout. This isn't a great team. I
just think that they play well together. I think is
a promising young coach. I mean, this is his rookie season.
He's done a good job. But you know, Lawrence, I
just have never seen Lawrence be that consistent, and I
(02:06:13):
think he overthinks it. He doesn't take care of the
football well enough. I think everyone thinks they're going to
lose to the Broncos. So I think there's an l there,
and I mean who knows. I mean, Philip Rivers, I
guess it's going to be out there, you know, he's
done it before. He probably can't move really well, but
he can still side on grow pretty well. I mean,
(02:06:35):
I'm sure they'll take care of business against the Jets.
That's one thing I think they will do. I'd be
mildly surprised if they lose to the Jets, and I'd
be shocked if they lose the season finale to the Titans.
I just don't see that one. But Broncos, I'm putting
it down as an l and I think Colts they're
vulnerable in that game.
Speaker 2 (02:06:56):
Too, Aaron.
Speaker 3 (02:06:57):
The Texans have been able to avoid the absolute letdown
loss this year, and we've been talking about the last
couple of weeks in anticipation of this in the Raider game,
where a couple of years ago you had the Carolina loss,
last year the Tennessee loss at home.
Speaker 2 (02:07:12):
Do they need to be on guard these next couple
of weeks.
Speaker 3 (02:07:14):
I mean, you know, could you envision a you know,
reaction Monday where we're talking about how the hell did
they lose either of these games?
Speaker 10 (02:07:23):
You can't rule that out. I mean, you know, for
a lot of reasons that we were just talking about
about the offense, How can you just say, you know,
we can count on this. There could be turnovers, there
could be short fields, there could be things like that
that come up, and it's like the offense is awful,
but they are a bottom half of the league formerly.
At this point of the season, they're very similar statistically
(02:07:45):
to last year, with the exception of not having a
Joe Mixon and him, you know, having a thousand yard season.
Obviously we've had a thousand yard season collectively between marks
and so I'm sharing the football. But yeah, hey, look
at I think, wow, you know, who are you afraid
of on the offense. You know, there's one really dangerous
(02:08:06):
playmaker in Nico Collins, but a lot of the other
guys are just complimentary pieces. There's not really like a
great chess piece that you can utilize. They get good
efforts out of Marks. They occasionally, you know, Jayden Higgins,
I think he's still improving in you know, growing in
his game, and that's like what I've seen from him.
(02:08:26):
But there's nothing real dominance, right, There's nothing about this
offense that should scare another defense. And that's just the reality.
I'm not bagging on them and being harsh, I'm just
being honest. And those are the facts. So what does
it mean they if this is the best they can
do just kind of game managing and taking care of
(02:08:46):
the football. Teams have won this way before. Remember the
two thousand Ravens with Trent Dilfer, and they had Shannon Sharp,
they had Jamal Lewis, they had a running back, but
they had a lead defense like this one by Lewis,
and that's how they got it done. For this team,
the only gonna go as far as our defense can
(02:09:06):
take them. I think that, honestly, this is the Texans.
You got to kind of accept that. Yes, they have
four weeks to find tunant, but the adds of a
team dramatically changing and finding lightning in a bottle here
late in the season. I haven't seen that hacken head often.
I mean I saw when Jim Colwell became the offensive
coordinator for the Ravens. They fired Cam Cameron, they caught
(02:09:28):
fire with Joe Flacco, they had this great playoff, But
I mean that rarely happens, and they're not going to
be a change like that here. You know, Nick Calee
is the guy and he's still learning on the jobs.
Speaker 4 (02:09:38):
Aaron, I'll get you out of here on this when
you look at the Texans in years past, they found
a way to lose to a team with a basically
good shot at not the best shot of winning the
number one overall pick. If that happens again, does that
show that their store is some faults of this team
for being an actual playoff contender?
Speaker 2 (02:09:55):
Or is that just anepotence showing on up on a
random Sunday.
Speaker 10 (02:10:00):
I think it would just be randomly overall. You know,
we've seen and I think there's some reason for faith
in good program they're building. Yeah, it has them in
anything pretty. But the Texans, you know, they have good
leadership with Dmiko Rans. These guys play very hard. I
just don't see them not showing up. I think that,
you know, it's the obvious, right that that could happen.
(02:10:23):
People worry about this sort of thing, but I just
I'm not that worried about it. I don't think the Cardinals,
you know, they're missing a lot of guys. I mean,
did Jacobe were set back to what is he five
and one against these guys? I think it'll be five
and two when he leaves at ourg stadium.
Speaker 3 (02:10:40):
There you go, Aaron Wilson again, our Sports Talk seven
to ninety Texans Insider as well as with KPRC two.
He joins us every single Friday at this time. Aaron,
appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (02:10:49):
Man. We'll both see you up in the press box
on Sunday.
Speaker 10 (02:10:52):
Look forward to it. See you guys have a great weekend.
Speaker 3 (02:10:55):
There you go, Aeron Wilson hopping on with us right
here on the morning Drive with Dan and Cole Sports
Time seven ninety maybe does the fear that motivates the Texans,
and we'll dive into that fear here in just a
few minutes. But also to John Gonbodoro from ninety eight
to seven at Arizona Sports there in Phoenix, he's gonna
hop on with us. We'll get a look at the
(02:11:16):
Cardinals coming into town this weekend. So we'll do that
here in about fifteen minutes. But shout out time. I
want to give a shout out some people out there,
like Hey, Zeus from Houston, Sheila from Houston, Nikki from Dayton,
Kobe from Spring I think I know that guy, and
Sandra from Angleton. They all became partners in hope during
(02:11:37):
the eight o'clock hour. An additional shout out, we told
you about the incentive last hour, if you became a
Partner in Hope, you would be entered in to win
some Astros dugout tickets to a game in the twenty
twenty six season. Well congratulations to Lisa from Richmond for
winning that incentive in the eight o'clock hour, because this.
Speaker 2 (02:11:55):
Hour we need twenty two of you.
Speaker 3 (02:11:56):
We need twenty two Partners in Hope to do exactly
that and to donate to the Saint Jude Radio telethon,
which is presented by Gallery Furniture and the topeboard presented
by Oakcarvest Financial Group. We are up to three hundred
and fifty seven thousand, two hundred and twenty five dollars.
Let's keep that number going up.
Speaker 2 (02:12:16):
Let's go.
Speaker 3 (02:12:17):
Let's keep it going here until we wrap it up
here on this Friday. But a way that you can
become a Partner in Hope is by pledging just nineteen
dollars a month to help kids at Saint Jude who
are fighting cancer. You put that gift on your card.
You're gonna get a new Saint Jude T shirt that
says music Gibs. You're gonna get a hoodie like I
was wearing yesterday on my social media feeds that also
says music gives and it's zip up. It's great, it's fantastic.
(02:12:39):
Great for the cold weather temps that are coming in
here to the Houston area. And you can get both
of those when you donate right now and become a
partner in hope at Saint Jude by calling one eight
hundred five eight eight fourteen thirty three. That's one eight
hundred five eight eight one four three three. Once again,
that's one eight zero zero five eight eight one four
(02:13:00):
three to three to become a partner and hope today
and help out the kids and families over at Saint Jude.
Speaker 8 (02:13:07):
The Morning Drive with DNN and Cole on Sports Talk
seven ninety, home of the Strolls, Rockets, and Houston's best
sports talk.
Speaker 3 (02:13:17):
I mean, this is a Texans team that I think
at times has had to fight complacency and even at
times like where you've just been like wait a minute.
I mean, you know we had the audio after they
lost to the Seahawks where Titus Howard said, man, we
might have gotten a little complacent up front, and it's like, well, whoa, whoa,
how does that even happen? But now, I mean that's
why I've said, and we had this as a topic
earlier in the week, Cole, this is when Demiko Ryans
(02:13:39):
has got to be at his best to tell his guys,
now is not the time. I mean, I understand that,
you know, we've beaten some tough teams, but there are
other teams that are gonna be gunning for you now
and you're not in the playoffs yet.
Speaker 4 (02:13:51):
No, I get what you're saying. But at the same time,
I don't think it's even complacency. I think it's just
laziness not taking in team seriously.
Speaker 2 (02:13:58):
I'm dead.
Speaker 4 (02:13:59):
Look, end of the day, Texans are better than the Cardinals.
You would agree with me on that, Oh dude, I mean,
are they within even striking distance of being as are
the Cardinals even in striking distance as bad as the
Las Vegas Raiders.
Speaker 2 (02:14:13):
Probably they're closer to the Raiders the Texans. See, I
don't even think it's that.
Speaker 4 (02:14:16):
I think it's like quite literally, miles and miles and
miles apart, like the distance between Phoenix and Las Vegas
for how far apart those two teams are, which means
how far it is apart for Houston.
Speaker 2 (02:14:28):
It's not about complacency.
Speaker 4 (02:14:29):
It just is about you not wanting to show on
up and put in the work for even a quarter
like you have to be so incompetently awful, I think
over the next four quarters to even make it a
gain to where you don't beat the spread in either
of these next two matchups. That's how much I think that,
That's how different I think the Texans are from everybody else,
and for good reason. Defensively they're there. Offensively, they're finding
(02:14:51):
some bit of an identity. And when you look at
a coaching standpoint, one coach is definitely gonna get fired
and Pete Carroll the second one more than likely could
get fired in Johnathan, and both teams don't have a
quarterback that you have a lot of faith and you
do so, I mean, like I look at it in
the standpoint of you have got to basically say, we're
trying to put as much reality television drama in to
(02:15:13):
a situation for our playoff hopes, for us to lose
the next four eight two games.
Speaker 3 (02:15:17):
Well, I mean, and I think also two with the Texans,
just with the tight games that they've been in all
throughout this season, that this is more of a proving
ground for you of you can win a game by
running away with it, and for this one in on Sunday.
The Texans right now are a nine and a half
point favorite for this one. So there, Vegas is only
(02:15:39):
asking you to beat them by two scores. I feel
like you should be shooting for a lot more than that.
Speaker 2 (02:15:43):
You should be winning by twenty one.
Speaker 4 (02:15:45):
I'm sorry, like like, the bottom line is that if
Los Angeles is good enough to win the Super Bowl, you,
if you want to be in that category, should win
by the exact same score.
Speaker 2 (02:15:52):
We'll talk that much more.
Speaker 3 (02:15:54):
John Gonbadoro again, ninety eight seven Arizona Sports out there
in Phoenix. He's gonna hop on with us here for
a few minutes. Give us a look at the Cardinals.
We'll do that right here. It's the morning drive, Dan.
Speaker 4 (02:16:03):
Cole, make sure that you go ahead and call on
into one eight hundred five eight eight one four three
three that number once again, one eight hundred and five
eight eight one four three three.
Speaker 2 (02:16:12):
What are you calling in for? Well, it's the holiday season.
Speaker 4 (02:16:14):
Now is the perfect time to give on back to
the kids at Saint Jude fighting cancer. Right now, the
seven ninety Saint Jude radiothon presented by Gallery Furniture.
Speaker 2 (02:16:24):
It's just asking for nineteen bucks.
Speaker 4 (02:16:26):
Nineteen bucks a month, that's quite literally one works week's
worth of coffee for you to donate and get back
to the kids fighting cancer at Saint Jude. And when
you do that, you put a gift on the card
and you'll get a new music give shirt or Saint
Jude's hoodie.
Speaker 2 (02:16:39):
And if you don't want to go ahead and do.
Speaker 4 (02:16:40):
That, well, let me tell you guys, there still is
an opportunity for you to get on in congratulations or
in order to Lisa from Richmond, she just wanted an
incentive package. You can win an incentive package by calling
on in to one eight hundred five eight eight one
four three three. Currently the toe board presented by Oak
Harvest Financial Group has us at three hundred and fifty
seven thousand dollars. We need twenty two partners to sign
(02:17:03):
it up in the next thirty minutes. If you don't
want to sign it up by calling on in, that's fine.
Use the word kids k I D S and type
that to six two six two six two six two
six two sixty two.
Speaker 2 (02:17:14):
That is another way for you to donate.
Speaker 4 (02:17:16):
Kids at six two six two six' two to donate
nineteen bucks a month to helping kids fight cancer At Saint.
Speaker 14 (02:17:21):
JUNE Jp France Playscribe PRAY.
Speaker 6 (02:17:27):
Jp france here Supports talk seven ninety as your Home Forreshroows.
Speaker 2 (02:17:30):
Baseball stream every game on the Free iHeartRadio.
Speaker 3 (02:17:34):
App but a game we're gonna be talking about right
now with our next guest from ninety eight Seven Arizona
sports out there In. Phoenix it's The texans taking on
The cardinals and they'll do That sunday at noon over
AT Nrg. Stadium as we catch up With John gombadoro
again From Arizona, Sports, gombo appreciate the, time. Man all,
(02:17:55):
right two quick hitters for you before get to the
first long form question, Here but is this one of
the final four games that we will be Seeing Jonathan
gannon as the head coach of The Arizona.
Speaker 2 (02:18:06):
Cardinals that's the biggest question.
Speaker 9 (02:18:08):
Here you, know he's been here three.
Speaker 1 (02:18:11):
Years whether you want.
Speaker 9 (02:18:13):
To give him a fourth year or, not that's up
To Michael. Bidwell they're still Paying Cliff kingsbury a little
bit of money from because they've gave him a five
year deal and the fire him after one. Year in
the FORMER Gm steve. Gime you, know a lot of
us he has thought That gannon might be able to survive,
this especially if he made some changes at coordinator with
the new offensive. Coordinator but, man they if they go
on this epic losing streak and lose you, know fourteen
(02:18:36):
out of the last fifteen.
Speaker 1 (02:18:37):
Football, Games i'm not so.
Speaker 9 (02:18:39):
SURE i, mean this team is having one of the
worst years in the history of The Arizona. CARDINALS i,
mean No cardinal team has ever ever lost fourteen football.
Games they've got a chance to do.
Speaker 2 (02:18:49):
It does THE gm go with?
Speaker 3 (02:18:51):
Them BECAUSE i, mean Remember Will Anderson junior is here
In houston because of a deal made With Nick.
Speaker 9 (02:18:55):
Cassio, yeah, no, ABSOLUTELY i MEAN i, was you, know
we To Will anderson and, go, wow you'd love. That
you love to have that. Guy but The cardinals needed
a franchise left tackle and they got one In Paris.
Johnson that wasn't a terrible. Trade you, know at the,
time we, thought you, Know arizona And houston might have
the top one and two, picks you, know but That
houston was good that, year and he depicted and that
(02:19:17):
did not end up being as good as we. Thought
it would be when the trade was. Made both guys
have been here for the same amount of, Time monty
Asin ford And Jonathan. Gannon it's the biggest question we have.
Here we don't Know Michael. Bidwell unlike other owners in this.
Market Ken, kendrick the owner of The, diamondbacks comes on
with us a, lot so Does Matt, ishbia the owner
of The, suns comes on with us a. Lot we
don't get to hear From Michael bidwall a whole, lot
(02:19:39):
so what his thinking is we are not. Sure we've
always questioned the commitment to win by the ownership group
here because they have such a awful history of, losing
so we do question. That so we've got four games.
Left to be honest with, YOU i don't think it
matters whether they win a game or. Two, like if
you don't know now how whether you want to keep
(02:20:01):
these guys or, not then something would be. Wrong.
Speaker 4 (02:20:03):
John when you look at the status Of Jacoby, brissette
this is a guy who probably is going to be
a hot commodity on the open market next. Year veteran
presence because of his experience being a backup. Quarterback Kyler
murray is not going to be a part of this
team long. Term we have all kind of agreed that
he's going To, Pittsburgh he's going To minnesota or something like.
That but when you look At Jacoby, brissett is he
fighting for an opportunity to get a second contract With.
Speaker 9 (02:20:25):
Arizona he signed a two year, deal, guy so he's
under contract for next, year so he'll be. Back he
signed a two year contract With, arizona so he'll need
to be back as a stopgap, starter or he will
be a backup if they go get another quarterback via
the draft of somewhere. Else but, yeah they did sign
(02:20:46):
into a two year, deal so he will not hit
the open.
Speaker 4 (02:20:48):
Market do you think that's the plan, though is to
go with a quarterback early or in one of the early,
rounds or is this one of those things, where, look
we got so many problems on the defensive, side we
still got to fix our offensive. Line we don't know
what our long term answer is that running. Back, potentially
there's so many other moves that you can go look
at in the week quarterback. Class you just ride it
out With Jacoby ressett one more year and maybe bring
(02:21:08):
in another veteran just to compete for.
Speaker 2 (02:21:10):
Reps, YEAH i MEAN i would do, that.
Speaker 9 (02:21:13):
RIGHT i would draft an offensive Tackle spencerfano out Of
utah and in the first round and try to build
that offensive line because the offensive line is, really really.
Bad it's got a lot of. Problems they can't run the, football,
guys like they can't run it. All, Yeah James connor
has been out almost all, Year Trey benson is not coming.
Back The den minus then number one and number two.
Back but if you look at the pass and run
(02:21:34):
disparity with this football team and all the, games you
blow your, mind like how much they passed the ball
compared to. Running it's some of these as they've been
behind by a, lot especially in the games AGAINST Nfc west,
opponents but they've also played seven games that have been
within four. Points they just don't have the ability to
run the, football so they end up passing it a.
LOT i would go With Yakobe. Prissett but then here's the,
(02:21:57):
question like if you are if you're min The Austin
fort And Jonathan gatton and you're and they come back
and their jobs are on the, line they got a
mandate to win next, year do you really want to
do it with a journeyman backup or do you want
to take a chance on a you, know on a
rookie in the. DRAFT i think they got to go offensive.
Line it's not a great draft. Class and and you
know what sucks for them, too it is it's not
(02:22:18):
like they're in a position to get The mendoza, kid
WHO i, like because they don't even have a top five.
Pick with all the losses The cardinals have, done they
don't even have a top five pick right.
Speaker 2 (02:22:26):
Now it's crazy to, think no doubt about.
Speaker 3 (02:22:29):
It John gombadoro again From Arizona sports ninety eight to.
Seven they're In phoenix talking a little bit about The
cardinals with us here on the Morning. Drive gambou it
looks like That Marvin Harrison junior is not going to
be out there this.
Speaker 2 (02:22:44):
Weekend is that the understanding out?
Speaker 9 (02:22:46):
There, yeah he's he's he's been been injured a. Lot
he's had a rough. Year Marvin Harrison. Jr Michael wilson
has developed into the number one receiver for them lately
as a kid they drafted out A stanford and he
usually doesn't play very. Well when When Marvin Harrison junior,
Plays but when, uh but When Marvin Harrison junior doesn't.
(02:23:06):
Play you look at his, numbers they're through the. Roof
he's he's got over seven hundred yards receiving right. Now so,
no The cardinals are as banged up as any team
in this league as Banged Paris, johnson the left, tackle
is not going to play in this. Game you, know
we don't Expect Marvin Harrison junior to. Play Walton nolan
could come, Back Trey bens and they didn't open up his.
Window the running. Back they were hopeful to get him
back for this. Game they're not going to open up his.
Window so his season is. Over they've been devastated by.
(02:23:30):
Injuries just devastated by. Injuries and you, know we've seen
two years Of Marvin Harrison junior and we, just you,
know not not exactly what we. Expected you, know when
you're draft the receiver and that high and he's the
number one receiver, taken and he's the number one position
player off the, board that's not a. Quarterback AND i
think it's been somewhat of a disappointing start for him
in his career.
Speaker 4 (02:23:50):
Here so banged up offensive, line not a number one
receivers out Of Michael. Wilson you do Have trey, mcbriene
but still questions when it comes to running the football
in consistent. Defense coach on the hot seat A, gm
the potential could be going out the door as.
Speaker 2 (02:24:03):
Well So, JOHN i ask you straight, up what's it gonna?
Speaker 9 (02:24:06):
Playing?
Speaker 4 (02:24:07):
Well what's what's what's the best way for this team
to find a way to get a victory on At
Energy stadium On.
Speaker 2 (02:24:12):
SUNDAY i, MEAN i don't think they.
Speaker 9 (02:24:15):
CAN i mean the way that DEFENSIVE i don't know
the way The houston. DEFENSE i mean that's probably the
most physical defense in the. LEAGUE i like The denver
defense a lot, Too BUT i think it's gonna be
very difficult for the. Game you, know we look at
The atlanta game and, say, boy if they can get
a win in any of these four, games it would.
Speaker 6 (02:24:30):
Be you, know The falcons.
Speaker 9 (02:24:32):
Game BUT i think a lot of fans here just
want them to lose every game because they want the
better draft. Pick at this point with the, hell why
not just get the best draft pick possible if you want,
to you, know how can they? Win trey McBride is
the best height end in. Football Michael wilson is a
very good capable, receiver if they're able to Protect. Brissett you,
know they do have the ability to get the ball
(02:24:53):
down the. Field but if you make them one, dimensional
you could just focus on that because The cardinals can
not run the. Football they can't run the, football so
teams are, now you, know, okay their emphasis really is
on going After brissette and just making sure that they
got the coverage in the. Back SO i think it's
very difficult for them.
Speaker 1 (02:25:11):
To go on the road to get a win In.
Speaker 9 (02:25:12):
Houston if The rams have anything to play for in
that final, game they're not going to beat. Them they
do play games, close remember seven games by four points or,
less and they're owing seven in all of those, games
but they just haven't figured out a way to.
Speaker 3 (02:25:25):
Win And, GOMBO i mean you mentioned. It you, Know
suns are playing well and you just want to tie
this in with The cardinals out. THERE i, mean just
with all the fits and. STARTS i, MEAN i know
there was The Super bowl in eight and there's been
playoff runs here and, there but JUST i mean, OVERALL i,
mean is this a fan base that's pretty much checked
out right?
Speaker 2 (02:25:40):
Now?
Speaker 9 (02:25:43):
Yeah you know they've had three really they've been down
thirty five to, nothing thirty forty five to, ten and
thirty five to ten in the three last three games
AGAINST Nfc west. OPPONENTS i mean this last, game you,
know against The, RAMS i think by the third quarter
six the seventy percent of the fans who are out
of the. Building so, yeah, like you, Know i've done
(02:26:05):
the show For it's twenty nine years, here and you
know we're looking for you, know, hey the diamonbacks and
trade to Tell, marte you, know The Phoenix suns of.
This you, know The sons were off to a really
good and surprising, start so you, know it's it's. Tough
The cardinals were truly they were out of it On,
halloween like they were eliminated like a week or two,
ago but they were like out of it By. Halloween you're,
like oh, boy this team's this team's not going to
(02:26:27):
go anywhere because they started off two and. Oh but
then By halloween they were two and five and you're
not going to come back from two and. Five so
we kind of knew at that point that it's a
lost season and you just kind of wait for it
to end and you wait to see if the coach
will get. Fired and THE gm will get fired and
the drafts picked that you're going to have you talk
about that in free. Agency but, yeah it's it's a
tough spot when you're you know when honestly like by
(02:26:49):
but by the time the calendar turns To, november you
know your football team has no chance at the.
Speaker 1 (02:26:53):
Playoffs John always WHY.
Speaker 4 (02:26:54):
I get you're opinion on this Because i've asked every
guest that we've had on this week about the. Situation
you have a forty four year old grandfathers starting for
The Indianapolis colts On sunday against one of the league's best.
Defenses what are your thoughts On Philip rivers going on.
Speaker 9 (02:27:07):
BACK i think he's probably better than half the backups
in the league right. NOW i don't see you, know
we Had Kurt wana here and he did leave The
cardinals to The Super. BOWL i remember talking To kurt
at one point four or five years. Later he's, Like
i'd love to come. Back i'd love to come. Back
Philip urvers is a smart, quarterback HIGH. Iq he could
throw the. Football now he's got to. Learn you, know
they're gonna dumb me down to the offense for, him,
(02:27:28):
RIGHT i mean there's gonna be a limited amount of
plays that he. Knows BUT i don't think it's a terrible. Idea,
now they've got a tough. SCHEDULE i don't know if
they're gonna win any of the games they're gonna. Play
go look at The colts, schedule it's.
Speaker 6 (02:27:37):
BRUTAL i, Mean seattle's.
Speaker 9 (02:27:39):
Got a great. DEFENSE i think he's probably a better
option than anything that's out there that they could have.
Gotten bring him back if he's in. Shape he didn't
remember how he didn't forget how to throw a. Football,
guys he was a really really good. Quarterback he's not
expecting him to go run Like Lamar jackson Or Kyler
murray or anybody like. That BUT i we've seen a
(02:28:01):
lot of quarterbacks in their forties play and play, okay
Remember steve De. Berg SO i don't think it's a
terrible idea for the. Call SO i don't think it's
going to, work BUT i don't think it's a great.
Speaker 3 (02:28:11):
Idea, Again John gombadoro Again Arizona sports ninety eight SEVEN

certain points this season with The texans where it's, like,
boy maybe we're gonna have to do a little bit
More astro's hot stove and you know other.
Speaker 2 (02:29:27):
Things BUT i, mean unlike, them you, know The texans
have turned it. Around so do you think That goamba

Coffee maybe just grab, coffee a couple of days at
the office or at, home and be able to put
that nineteen dollars to good. Use i'm only asking for
a couple of days out of you to be able

A french word basically for THAT i guess you could

something that's like kind of like an added incentive of
going to the.
