Mark.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
We are two days outway, two days away from the
Texas Longhorns in Ohio State, but we have football tonight.
We got college football Week one is officially kicking off tonight.
We had Week zero where a lot of games, a
lot of activity, but now it is down to the
nitty gritty and folks are on ten already.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
Hey, the ain't no number two like the number two.
I'm finna mention Eric metcalv brother. I am so excited.
I can't wait for everything to kick off tonight.

Speaker 1 (02:44):
I know I've been waiting for this and everybody's trying to,
you know, get their schedules down. I saw people getting
on their flights already to head to Columbus to get there,
enjoy the festivities. Be in town a little bit earlier.
Be careful, folks. If you're a tech Longhorn fan, be careful, folks.
That's all I'm going to say.

Speaker 3 (03:03):
But we got.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
Football that kicks off today at four point thirty as
Boise State, the number twenty five ranked team, will take
on South Florida in South Florida, and that will be
the beginning of the college football week one where everyone
is excited.

Speaker 3 (03:22):
To get it going. But I wanted to bring this up.

Speaker 1 (03:25):
We've got more games and I'll talk about them a
little bit more a little bit later, But I wanted
to get into this conversation because one thing that we
continue to talk about during this time mark is the
crowd noise. You were talking about Ryan Day and him
imploring his fans to really be loud where Texas cannot

(03:47):
even get their hand signals in that's how loud it
is going to be. But you also have to understand
that what coach Shark in his team has been trying
to do was simulate that crowd noise, but it'll never
be the same.

Speaker 3 (04:02):
They do well.

Speaker 4 (04:03):
You know, I think one thing that crowd noise does
is once you get over being overwhelmed by the noise,
it forces the focus. It forces you to focus, and inevitably,
the way we operate when you're really focused, it better
serves us. And so sometimes I'm wondering if we should
be pumping crowd noise at home too. I feel like
we have more penalties on pre snap stuff at home

(04:25):
than we do on the road, and so but there's
a reason for that, I think as we practice it
and our guys feel comfortable with the crowd noise.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
You know, the funny thing that you've talked about for
a while now, Mark, is the false starts and being
one of those teams that is constantly being penalized for
those particular situations.

Speaker 3 (04:45):
And that's what Coach Sark was talking about.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
It says that we do better on the road because
I think they hold their water as the coaches used
to say a lot longer.

Speaker 3 (04:54):
Yeah, well, a lot of.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
It too is these guys they want to they want
to impress at home. They're they're excited, so they want
to hurry up and get after it.

Speaker 3 (05:05):
But you you just have to stick to your cues.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
And understand that you gotta you gotta, you gotta work
with your team.

Speaker 1 (05:13):
Yeah, you gotta stay in sync and be locked into
everything that's going on. And I believe that's what this
Texas team is trying to do. But Coach Sark was
also asked at the presser, by the way, we'll have
more from Coach Sark his final presser, uh, before they
had to, before they had to.

Speaker 3 (05:32):
Columbus will be today.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
So you start to get we're close, close, closed to
the kickoff, as I said, two days away. But they
was talking about the value of a tough non conference
game and what that means for this program. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (05:49):
No, I think it serves us well in preparation as
I said, for the remainder of the season, what we
have to do, you know, and you look at some
of these other road games that we have to go on,
like I really think going to Michigan early in the
year helped us and gave us a lot of confidence
going to Kyle Field at the end of the year
because our players got exposed to so much of what

(06:10):
it was like to be on the road in a
hostile environment.

Speaker 3 (06:12):
So, you know, the goal is that this can.

Speaker 4 (06:14):
Serve well for that as well as well as the
speed of the game, the physicality of the game. You know,
you're looking at two you know, highly talented rosters with
really good coaches, and so the speed the physicality of
which it will be played at is going to be
something that is going to be, you know, really replicated
when we get into SEC play. How it affects the
nine game, I don't know yet. I've spent about twenty

(06:38):
seconds thinking about that when that announcement came out. But
you know, so I don't know if it affects that
so much moving forward, but I know it'll affect us
this year, which I think for in a good way.

Speaker 3 (06:50):
And that's true. That's true.

Speaker 1 (06:53):
You got to be locked in and ready to go
from the very beginning and that helps with the training
aspect of it.

Speaker 2 (06:59):
Mark, do you think that this Ohio State game is
is the same level of intensity as being an SEC
Conference game.

Speaker 1 (07:14):
Absolutely, absolutely, You know why because this is the defending
national champion. This is the team that knocked you off
of your pedestal on your way to becoming a national champion.
You've been coming up short. And even though they say
this is not the same team, it is the same
team name that was up there. And if you were

(07:35):
a part of that game, and coach Sarkas said, I
think he believed that they have thirty guys that participated
in that ball game before.

Speaker 3 (07:44):
Yeah, he understands.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
And those guys still have that feeling. Think about that
video of what we saw with Michael taff In the
motions that he had when his team got eliminated.

Speaker 3 (07:55):
So, yes, absolutely this is.

Speaker 1 (07:57):
Gonna be one of those games that would rival an
SEC matchup. But more importantly, it's a game to check
the barometer of where you are. The hype that's surrounded
about around Arch Manning has been through the roof and
everyone is just waiting to see. That's why this game

(08:18):
is so highly anticipated. That's why these people continue to
talk about this. That is why this weekend is the
weekend of college football.

Speaker 2 (08:29):
Yeah, heart, I really do think that you know, this
is win, lose a draw. This is gonna bode well
for Texas being in the best possible situation that you
could be in. All these teams playing cupcakes and powder
cake teams, they're not gonna get a true barometer of

(08:50):
what championship football looks like.

Speaker 1 (08:52):
Yeah, it's a little bit different, and these guys are
are really about to get tested. But one of the
things that continues to be question is arch manning. Some
believe the hype, some do not, and one that does
not is Paul Feinebaum's arch enemy, Jordan Rodgers.

Speaker 5 (09:11):
But I will say, and I'm gonna say this, I
don't know what you guys talked about when I went
off there. The height doesn't match the tape. There are
good things, and there are some good things, but the
height or the tape to me, doesn't tell you got
a first round draft pick, or a top ten or
a number one overall draft pick, or a Heisman hopeful.
I think he's gonna go into Ohio State. He's gonna
struggle because he hasn't played anybody. The last time we
saw him against a really good defense was Georgia, and

(09:32):
he looked out of place. Right He looked really good
against UTSA, Luisiana, Monroe and Mississippi State, the worst defense
in the SEC. I think there's still a lot for
him to grow and a lot we need to see.

Speaker 1 (09:42):
Like Lewis said, you see what I'm saying. You see
what I'm saying.

Speaker 2 (09:45):
Everybody that's you know what, that's the guy that he's
got a little animosity about the NCC.

Speaker 3 (09:52):
Still he's still.

Speaker 2 (09:53):
One of those guys that think that Texas don't belong
in the SEC.

Speaker 3 (09:58):
Hey hey hey hey hey hey. He got to hate
in his heart.

Speaker 1 (10:01):
But the thing is, Jordan Rodgers, he played at Vanderbilt.

Speaker 3 (10:03):
He was a good quarterback. He is the.

Speaker 1 (10:05):
Bachelor, And Paul Finbau said he stopped watching The Bachelor
after he didn't like he didn't like what he said
about arch Manning. So you know, Paul, five balls riding
for arch Manning even though Jordan Rodgers. And it's fair,
I mean, as much as people want to love on
arch it's fair to have that assessment. So we can't

(10:25):
bash him for his overall thoughts. And now the thing is,
you just got to go out there and play ball.

Speaker 2 (10:32):
George Rogers, he must have forgot about football every year
that you stay in the game, you get better. Like
what he was last year is not what he is
this year. Like when you develop and you train your
mind and you train your body and you get more reps.
Think about all the reps that Quinn got with the
first unit and he didn't right now he's getting one

(10:55):
hundred percent of those first reps. So like, how can
he not be better than he was last year? Get
out of here with that.

Speaker 3 (11:03):
That's why we let him go out there and play ball.

Speaker 1 (11:05):
This Saturday, eleven am kickoff, bab Man, you can hear
it all right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred
The Zone with the voice of the Texas Longhorns, our
guy Craig Wade, the Hall of Famer, bringing it to you.
As always, we will lead you up to the action
starting at eight am from.

Speaker 3 (11:25):
Cover three as we have Long Horns game day kicking
off this Saturday. Cannot wait.

Speaker 1 (11:31):
Coming up next, we're gonna continue the conversations about this matchup.
We're gonna hear from some of the participants and let
me just tell you this, Eric Henry of Horns two
four seven is gonna be ready.

Speaker 3 (11:44):
We're gonna talk baseball.

Speaker 1 (11:46):
The Astros got the big Dog back, Alvarez, back in
the place, and so much more. We're just getting started
on a throwback Thursday edition of the Morning Kickoff on
Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Coming up, we
have our guy Eric Henry of Hordes two four seven.

Speaker 3 (12:04):
Make your plans right now.

Speaker 1 (12:05):
One hour from now we will have lifetime long harm
Brian A. Rackpo joining us to talk about his time
on the forty Acres and of course how tough this
matchup is gonna be for both of the squads as
they look forward to this weekend. You know, Mark, I
wanted to I told Marcus this just a little while ago,

(12:28):
and I don't know if you've seen this.

Speaker 3 (12:30):
We'll get into some sound here in just a second.

Speaker 1 (12:33):
But there is a new rule for the twenty twenty
five twenty twenty six season that in high school sports
a Texas Law SB twenty nine, twenty nine, game officials
may now remove spectators immediately for disruptive and inappropriate behavior.

Speaker 3 (12:54):
No warning is required.

Speaker 1 (12:57):
Your cooperation helps model good sportsmanship and protect the integrity
of our programs.

Speaker 3 (13:04):
Cheer for our players, not against the other team.

Speaker 1 (13:09):
Treat officials and visiting teams would respect keep events positive
for everyone. If a spectator is asked to leave, the
decision is final. Under Texas law, schools are allowed three
incidents before losing home officials.

Speaker 3 (13:30):
What you think, Mark, Well, it'll.

Speaker 2 (13:33):
Be a lot less Uh, there'll be a lot less
people cursing the referees.

Speaker 1 (13:38):
Now, Yeah, because they said no warning. You say no warning,
no warning.

Speaker 2 (13:47):
I'm out to talk to my wife.

Speaker 3 (13:51):
He cannot contains.

Speaker 1 (13:54):
It may be a good thing that Jacobs no longer
plans in high school.

Speaker 2 (14:00):
But Joe, Joe, Yeah, to throw you out. Yeah, that's
what out. Yeah, we're go listen. How many peers do
you know? We sit next to guys all the time.

Speaker 6 (14:16):
You you can't control yourself. Matter of fact, it's more
I'm more concerned about the mothers, because the mothers are
the ones who be the lot. Isn't the most excited.

Speaker 3 (14:28):
Hey, they have a lot outside.

Speaker 2 (14:31):
That's gonna have to have to stream the game because
so many people are gonna.

Speaker 3 (14:35):
Get thrown out.

Speaker 1 (14:38):
As I read that this morning, I was like, well,
your boy gonna have to chill out, cause you.

Speaker 2 (14:45):
Know that's gonna apply for basketball, wrestling, volleyball.

Speaker 1 (14:49):
Every score, every spots some new sport in the twenty
sixth season.

Speaker 3 (14:55):
Yeah, some things are gonna change. Kids might have you know, kids.

Speaker 2 (14:59):
Would be Do you remember when they came out with
the rule that you had you couldn't take purss, you
had to have to clear bags. Yes, yes, then now
they're gonna have to tell all the moms, Hey, you
cannot for us at the referees and call them blind
and like just Y to rate them like you have before.

Speaker 1 (15:22):
Lindsey and Jennet. We need to sit down and talk
to them. We need to have a meeting. We need
to have a meeting. So but yeah, now that rule
is in effect, So now we got to see what's
going to happen. I wanted to get into this because
I think this is important to talk about CJ.

Speaker 3 (15:38):
Baxter on the way back.

Speaker 1 (15:40):
On the Men from his injury, and he was asked
the other day because you start to look at this
class of twenty twenty three, the recruits that came in
in that group are now the leaders of this program.
These are the guys that have now put some skins
on the wall when you start to think of who

(16:01):
they are. And one of the things that he's excited about,
and this was from our guy Corey Moles. He asked
him about the recruiting class now being all together and
now taking the opportunity to help extend what this program
has gone.

Speaker 3 (16:17):
Arch he's a his name is.

Speaker 7 (16:20):
That is what it is. He's arch man it. But
at the end of the day, that guy, he works,
he's behind off. He wants to be great. We share
locations on our phone and I would leave the house
at like five thirty in the morning just to see
if I can beat him to the facility, and I can't.
I haven't been able to beat him or Demo yet
to the facility. That just that goes to show the

(16:41):
type of guy he is. And then outside of the
off the field he does stuff such as taking us
to lunch or the small things like checking in on us,
asking how to film, doing stuff like that because he
knows it's more than just on the field stuff. And
then to piggyback off that for Trey, Trey is we
came in together, so there's no nothing more that we

(17:01):
want to see each other to see. When I went
down last year and he stepped up, that made me
so happy, like genuinely it made me happy because nobody
knew he was gonna do that. Nobody expected it, but
I knew he was gonna do it. Us in the building,
we knew it. So he deserves everything he got and
what's coming for him and in their future. Art does,
and so everybody else.

Speaker 1 (17:24):
That class of twenty three has been able to lead.
Now when you think about Trey Wisner, nobody thought Tredy
Wisner was gonna do what he did last year, except
for coach Shark. I will say this, when we had
our press availabilities last year, at the very beginning, they
would always ask who's standing out, who's standing out?

Speaker 3 (17:45):
And Trey Wisner's name.

Speaker 1 (17:47):
Was always at the forefront of every conversation because of
his ability to He started on.

Speaker 3 (17:55):
Special teams and for him to be able to do.

Speaker 1 (17:58):
That and then transform him and become that type of runner.
And now he's his confidence is on twelve and so
this is this is that type of player.

Speaker 3 (18:09):
And with CJ.

Speaker 1 (18:10):
Baxter coming back Arch being the quarterback, this is this
is the type of leadership that you won in your
locker room.

Speaker 3 (18:18):
Arch.

Speaker 2 (18:19):
That's another reason why I feel like all of these
pronosticators are wrong about what Texas is because now you
got CJ.

Speaker 3 (18:29):
Baxter.

Speaker 2 (18:30):
He didn't contribute last year, and with his abilities, he
pulls people closer to the line of scrimmage. So like
with a guy like him, where you need extra bodies
in the box, that's going to open it up for
Arch to throw the ball better. That's gonna open up
for Arch to sometimes pull the ball down and go

(18:52):
to the pielines like that. It's just a cause and
effect that football is afforded. Great quarterbacks is having a
complimentary running game and having a coach that understands the
system and uses the tools that's in the toolbox.

Speaker 3 (19:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (19:12):
Yeah, and they are getting that done and we'll see,
Like we said, we got to wait and see what's
going on. But one of the things that we continue
to talk about is Arch manning rightfully so.

Speaker 3 (19:23):
And Arch he made some T.

Speaker 1 (19:26):
Shirts the other day, you know, when the conversation was
had about going to Columbus as an underdog, he was, well,
let's let him tell you how he was feeling about that.

Speaker 8 (19:43):
I mean, I think that's all us at Texas and
I think we kind of try to shift the narrative.

Speaker 3 (19:46):
We're going for everyone else targets un on our back.
We got a red down on everyone else.

Speaker 9 (19:51):
We know it's a big game where everyone plays us,
but if it's a.

Speaker 3 (19:55):
Big game for them, it needs to be a huge.

Speaker 9 (19:58):
Every game's huge trust right Obviously our house state, it's
going to be more talked about. But next week is
the week after San Jose's got it. We got the
same mentalities we had this week, every day, every practice.

Speaker 3 (20:09):
It kind of taps into like being an underdog.

Speaker 10 (20:11):
You know, even with us from being ranked sohi, we
still have many doubters.

Speaker 3 (20:15):
So just just turning.

Speaker 9 (20:16):
The target into a red that give us the power
to believe more in ourself and then the program than
our brothers.

Speaker 3 (20:22):
So you know that's something we we emphasize. A lot
of irons love it, love it. I love that mentality.

Speaker 2 (20:30):
You know, for a long time we talked about this before,
like there were guys that was happy to be at
Texas and rather than play at Texas, and now you
have this Texas mentality of man, everybody's against us, Why
are we taking it easy on them?

Speaker 3 (20:49):
Let's bring it to them.

Speaker 2 (20:50):
Man.

Speaker 1 (20:50):
I love that mentality. Yeah, they're being aggressive in the mindset.
They know what it's about, and I'll never forget am
War asked the question on War richardson Orange Bloods He
asked the question to coach Sark about you went from
five and seven and a lot of the kids that
are now at this program, all they know is about winning.

(21:11):
That created that culture, right, that created that mindset. But
one of the big things that I love about this
team is the ability to develop. And he was asked
about the offensive line and who are some of the
guys that have done really well.

Speaker 4 (21:26):
Yeah, I've been really impressed with Connor Strow. I thought
he's had a really nice training camp. You know, Connor
Robertson is another guy who's who's had a really good
training camp. I think Jayden Chapman has really come on
the last two and a half weeks. So those three
guys on top of those other five, I feel very.

Speaker 3 (21:43):
Comfortable with growth man development.

Speaker 2 (21:47):
Hey, the growth and development and you know what man
like there was Connor Stroke came to tex Us as.

Speaker 3 (21:54):
A three star. Yes, so to see him developing.

Speaker 2 (21:59):
The work coach is talking about him above four and
fast stars, It's awesome.

Speaker 3 (22:04):
That's what it's all about.

Speaker 1 (22:06):
Coming up next, we've got our guy Eric Henry of
Horns two four to seven. As he breaks it down
like he always does right here on the morning kickoff
on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred's. When you want to
talk college football or just talk anything that's going on
in this sports world, all you gotta do is follow

(22:27):
my mind. Eric Henry of Horns two four seven You
I'm at Eric c. Henry underscore. The man's been busy.
He's handling his business. But right now we're about to
get right into the conversation about this Texas football matchup

(22:47):
as they get ready to go to Columbus, Ohio.

Speaker 10 (22:50):
How you doing he Good morning, morning fellas. The week
is finally here. Football season is here. Texas Ohio State's
finally here.

Speaker 1 (22:58):
No doubt about it. We were talking about last week
was the appetizer. Right now we get into the meal
and Texas and Ohio State the top matchup in the country.
People are going back and forth with the thought processes,
got people being banned from the stadium for no reason.
But let's talk about what's getting busy on the field.

(23:21):
This Texas football team has been preparing for this and
since the day that they lost that game, as is
Ohio State, they celebrated.

Speaker 3 (23:28):
Now it's time to get down to brass taxes.

Speaker 1 (23:30):
Both groups are starting new quarterbacks as they head into
this season on both sides of this, what's your expectations
from both of these quarterbacks?

Speaker 10 (23:42):
You know, I laugh when you talk about the quarterback matchup.
The reason I kind of giggle is because if you're
Julian Sanan harje in Mark, you got to feel good,
right because all the attentions on arch Manning, and last
time I checked, arch Manning is the one walking in
with Jeremi Smith. Arch Manning is the one walking in
with Cartnell tape. That's no disrespect to DeAndre Moore. Ryan Wingo,

(24:04):
who I've been on the record or even on this show,
is saying, if Ryan Wingo have the amount of targets
that jeremies with the Ryan Williams, he'd be in that conversation.

Speaker 11 (24:11):
But he wasn't right, so he's not in the conversation yet.

Speaker 10 (24:15):
And a Parker Livingstone one very high on white chocolate
as they fall. But if you're Julian insane, you got
to feel great, Like, hey, all the focuses on arc
he just has to go ball to flip it from
the Texas POV.

Speaker 11 (24:28):
It's interesting with arch Manning. We know us being local.

Speaker 10 (24:33):
None of the attention, none of the the hype, none
of the conversation phases Arch manning. All right, so the
actual atmospheric stuff that's not gonna phase him. All he
needs to do is go out and execute the game
plan while still remembering.

Speaker 11 (24:48):
I think Steve Sarkashian certain will take.

Speaker 10 (24:49):
Into account, especially if he looked away his first start
wetting against Louisiana Monroe last year, where sark said, Hey,
I probably should have gotten fe more easy completions instead
of trying to, you know, go downfield a lot.

Speaker 11 (24:59):
Just followed game plan.

Speaker 10 (25:00):
The game plan will be there, and I guess I
should amend one thing real quick. I said, all Julian
saying has to go do his ball. Well, he's facing
a really really good defense, so let me not think
all he has to go do is ball. But in
terms of the juxtaposition urge, all he has to do
is focus on what's in front of.

Speaker 2 (25:16):
My my feet saying is gonna have to learn the
same thing that I said about Arch get down.

Speaker 3 (25:25):
Because he likes to.

Speaker 2 (25:26):
Run, and to be a guy that likes to run
for that six seven yards, you're not used.

Speaker 3 (25:33):
To, even on your team.

Speaker 2 (25:35):
You're not used to having five guys on the defense
that play outside of the second dary that run four
or five.

Speaker 3 (25:44):
And below.

Speaker 10 (25:46):
Get down, man bark a blacking real because I can't
tell you gotta look like Shaq when they put him
in the kids like.

Speaker 11 (25:52):
You coulda pick a car or the smaller car.

Speaker 3 (25:54):
Mark.

Speaker 10 (25:55):
Nevertheless, as far as Julian Saying is concerned, if you're
watching on the YouTube stream, you get that.

Speaker 11 (26:00):
As far as Julian.

Speaker 10 (26:01):
Sandy's concerned, yeah, you know, this probably isn't the game
where you want to try to pick up the extra
five six yards just using your legs as a scrambler, right.

Speaker 11 (26:08):
You definitely want to folks on getting the ball out.

Speaker 3 (26:11):
Of your hands.

Speaker 10 (26:11):
And I honestly I talked about you know him facing
Texas defense.

Speaker 11 (26:17):
I do think that's going to be a big part
of the game plan. Harj and Mark.

Speaker 10 (26:20):
You know, when you look at Texas's history against quote
unquote like feature receivers, right, and they haven't faced a
ton of them over the past two years. They faced
thirteen guys who have had over nine hundred yards receiving
in a year, right, and really out of that thirteen
Jeremiah Smith, Romo Dunzey, Jalen Polk, those are the only
guys who would talk about that were legit stud number

(26:40):
one receivers. Texas fared well against the rest of the crew. Obviously,
we know what happened in Washington against Washington the Sugar Bowl.

Speaker 11 (26:48):
But what you want to keep an eye on.

Speaker 10 (26:49):
Is when they shut down teams quote unquote number one target.
There's been a handful of times where that number two
guy has gone over one hundred yards, right, because all
the attention shifts one way you get to Baldy Hand the.

Speaker 11 (27:00):
Other way Carnell Take.

Speaker 10 (27:01):
He's the guy who led ok Ohio State in receiving
in the Cotton Bowl last year. Right, So that's something
to keep an eye for. Julian Sane, just get the
ball out of your hands.

Speaker 1 (27:10):
I think you said it perfectly. Get the ball out
of your hands. We're talking to Eric Henry of Horns
two four seven. You can follow him at Eric c
Henry Underscore and he you know, obviously we talked a
lot about the quarterback matchups and how they're going to
go about it. But the one thing that continues to
stand out to me, and even Sark mentioned this the

(27:30):
other day, the continuity of the offensive and defensive coordinators
and the changes that was made in both teams. Now,
Brian Hartline, he's been there, he understands what it is.
Ryan Day is still going to have his thumb on everything.
But a new defensive coordinator. Yes, they have a lot
of talent and probably going to run the same scheme

(27:50):
because you have Caleb Downs back there. But there still
is that that adverse effect of the changes that can
happen when the voices are a little bit different.

Speaker 10 (28:01):
Yeah, I'm gonna try to hit on each coordinator, you know,
super quick. I'll start with Matt Patricia.

Speaker 12 (28:05):
Right.

Speaker 10 (28:05):
If you know anything about Matt Patricia defense, it's not
necessarily and this is something I personally enjoying a coach.

Speaker 11 (28:11):
He's not going to say, hey, play my scheme, hit
my scheme. He's gonna look.

Speaker 10 (28:14):
At the players and say, how can I adjust to
their skill set?

Speaker 3 (28:18):
Right?

Speaker 10 (28:19):
Caleb Downs is a guy you know you're going to
see all over the field. They're going to use him
in different spots. The same thing with some of their ends.
So that's kind of what I'm expecting from Matt Patricia.
You talk about Brian Hartline, that's another one that I
think is really interesting. As you mentioned, Ryan Day is
still going to be the CEO of that football team.
But Hard and Mark again and doing the research looking
at the way Ohio State were using the receivers. It

(28:40):
was not a deal like Texas where they were willing
to move guys around and have a guy lined up
in the slaughter at the outside. No, Jeremiah Smith was
outside a mecca.

Speaker 11 (28:50):
What was outside?

Speaker 10 (28:50):
Excuse me always trip on that name. Cardinal Tate was
in the slot, right. Brian Hartline's trying to cross train
some of these guys. Of course, a former NFL receiver,
he wants to get, you know, kind of give him
some more tools in their toolsbox. So that's something to
keep an eye on. As far as Texas, there's no
doubt the coordinator continuity is a big factor for Texas.
Pet Klekowski, for my money, a top three to four

(29:12):
defensive coordinator.

Speaker 3 (29:13):
In the nation.

Speaker 10 (29:13):
The thing that you know makes PK so special in
my mind, is he knows, you know, it's the talent
that makes him great, right, It's having Johnny Brier and
Anthony Hills and Colin Simmons that makes him great.

Speaker 3 (29:24):
Right.

Speaker 11 (29:24):
So I'm really interested to.

Speaker 10 (29:25):
See what kind of game plan PK cooks up and
of course, Steve Starkejian and Kyle Flood and the rest
of the kind of the offensive staff, they're what they'll
have for arch Manning. Again, the thing that I emphasized
I genuinely believe for Texas as well.

Speaker 11 (29:37):
I know I said for Ohio State.

Speaker 10 (29:38):
For Texas, I do think you're gonna see those easy completions,
get arch and rhythm, and then take your deep shots
when they're there.

Speaker 1 (29:46):
He Before we let you go, man, we need to
know what's your pick for the game. I don't know
if you and your crew over at Horns two four
seven put out your predictions yet, but I'm asking.

Speaker 3 (29:55):
For it right now. Let me see what he has
right now.

Speaker 10 (30:00):
Come on, you know, for the fellas, I can always,
you know, give y'all though something, so you get to
worry about that in the summer. I did pick Ohio
State to win this game twenty two nineteen because I
wanted to see how Texas's offense would would kind of
shape up and fall camp. I am leaning towards flipping
that pick and going Texas either way, I still feel
it's going to be something along the lines. At twenty

(30:21):
one seventeen, twenty seventeen you know it's gonna be a
low score in afear, and quite frankly, I think it's
going to be a defensive play that makes this game
rather than.

Speaker 11 (30:29):
An offensive play.

Speaker 3 (30:30):
I like it.

Speaker 1 (30:31):
I like it a lot because you know, Texas is
an underdog and I still believe and I've been telling
people this, I guarantee you by the time kickoff, that
number is going to flip because the big money is
waiting to see what other people are doing before they
get out there and jump on it. As always, man,
we appreciate you. Safe travels, and get in and out

(30:52):
of Columbus, bro, get in, get out.

Speaker 3 (30:55):
Don't be hanging in.

Speaker 2 (30:56):
Columbus is not Arkansas. You're gonna have a good time
in Columbus. They got great food. And listen, you know,
the fans are a lot like the fans, Harge.

Speaker 3 (31:07):
The fans are a.

Speaker 2 (31:08):
Lot like the ones that we met in Dallas. They
just love football. And that's my coming first.

Speaker 1 (31:15):
That was my farend that was there from Ohio. That's
why Harge, Harge. But when you the world started to
say you ain't got nothing to worry.

Speaker 3 (31:22):
About, exactly. But when you gotta.

Speaker 1 (31:25):
Say you can't, folk and they'll leave you alone.

Speaker 11 (31:27):
Doc appreciated fellas.

Speaker 3 (31:30):
As always, Man, we appreciate you. Safe travels.

Speaker 1 (31:33):
There is Eric Henry of Horns two four seven coming
up next.

Speaker 3 (31:37):
Your Don Alvarez is back in.

Speaker 1 (31:40):
Effect, but there's somebody else on that team that we
need to give some love to as well. Right here
on the morning kickoff on Sports Radio a M thirteen hundred.
This is all good stuff by our guy, Eric Henry
of Horns two for seven. As he always does, he
brings it. Coming up at eight seventeen in our Udgends

(32:00):
of the Locker Room segment will be joined by Brian A. Rackpoe,
one of the best to ever do it, Lombardi Award winner.
My man was doing big things here on the forty Acres.
But I also want to get into this conversation because
the Houston Astros are turning a corner. They have done

(32:23):
some things that they have tried to correct. They've been
in some situations, whether it's been All Star excuse me,
All Star Hunter Brown dealing and getting the wins. But
now they have frawm er Veldez who has been marred
in a month long slump on the mound, but he

(32:43):
came back to form. He was one of the top
pitchers all season long. But he came in last night
and was dealing. But the story is my guy, the
big one.

Speaker 3 (32:55):
You know, your Don is back appall to center field.

Speaker 10 (33:03):
Well struck Jordi's bidding for a home run.

Speaker 3 (33:06):
That's gone and play for nothing.

Speaker 8 (33:15):
Your nime's first Tom Runson's coming back from the a
l you called it. Saw the change up now and
then he got another way. You can't if he sees it,
you're in trouble. Yeah, you can't just go up there
and try to play. Just because my man was coming

(33:35):
back off of injury, they thought, oh yeah, we can
do what we do. Let me tell you something, your
Don Alvarez.

Speaker 1 (33:42):
I've seen that dude when he was in Triple A
and he was hitting balls into the swimming pool in
right field at the Dale Diamond, and I kept telling
everybody that would listen. I said, this dude is a
star in the making. And sure enough he's gotten to
the big leagues. I mean, I correct, you walk into

(34:03):
the ballpark, you gonna recognize the talent. I wasn't like,
oh my god, look at him, he's so great. No,
he was been good. But the day in and day
out and you see how important he is to that lineup.

Speaker 3 (34:15):
Did you hear that crowd?

Speaker 1 (34:17):
Did you hear the noise when he hit that ball,
and the fact that the fans are excited to have
him back. He's missed one hundred games, He's missed one
hundred homes in that lineup.

Speaker 2 (34:28):
And it's not like that the Astros are not a
good team. They're already a good team. Now you add him,
and I'm a little hurt. I'm a little hurt because
it seems like everybody around me is getting better and
the Yankees are stuck.

Speaker 3 (34:43):
In the mud.

Speaker 1 (34:44):
They stay in neutral, Man, they are staying in neutral,
but they're still in striking distance.

Speaker 3 (34:50):
And you remember our conversation.

Speaker 1 (34:52):
We'll get to the Rangers here in just second, but
you remember our conversation yesterday, Mark, where I was talking
about how cal Raley O'Riley should be the MVP, but
they're probably gonna give it to Aaron Judge because his
numbers are just as good because of the batting average.
Marcus and I were listening to something right before the

(35:14):
show and they were saying the exact same thing that
we said yesterday.

Speaker 3 (35:18):
They were saying it this morning.

Speaker 1 (35:20):
Is like you kind of get used to Aaron Judge
and what he does.

Speaker 3 (35:26):
It's not fair to him.

Speaker 1 (35:28):
Because we're looking at him and saying, oh, yeah, we
expect you to do that. We've seen that done before.
We haven't seen what this catcher was able to do.
But the fact still remains. When you watch the game
and you look at what Aaron Judge is doing, he's
unfazed by it. He just goes about his business. He's
a calm demeanor. He handles his business. But yes, you

(35:52):
got to look at what the dude in Seattle is doing.

Speaker 2 (35:57):
Harje Judges also getting walked a lot. That's great, So
his numbers would be higher if he got pitched too,
like everybody else got pitched too. But I'm not making
excuses right now. If the war was to be given
out today, the big dumper should get it.

Speaker 3 (36:22):
The big dumper.

Speaker 2 (36:22):
As anybody that says different, it's hating Aaron Judge.

Speaker 3 (36:28):
Listen to this.

Speaker 1 (36:29):
Aaron Judge is batting three twenty three. The next closest
person is three oh seven, and that's Jeremy Penya, who
I will say and I will put my stamp on this.
When they traded Korea and they brought up Jeremy Penya.
I told everybody because I was across the street and
Rob Babers was with me, Patrick Davis, longtime Astro fans,

(36:53):
My Marcus was there too. I said it. I said,
Jeremy Penya, don't worry about a college Korea. I understand
he was y'all's first pick, but Jeremy Panna is a dude,
and sure enough he was Rookie of the Year MVP.

Speaker 3 (37:07):
I mean he did everything.

Speaker 1 (37:08):
Now his batan average is starting to show after a
bad season last year. But to be honest with you,
three four people in the AL are batting over three
hundred and the rest nope. Not a lot of people
are batting over three hundred. Man, So hey, what is
the qualifications for nope?

Speaker 3 (37:30):
Don't be battan over, don't bat over three hundred.

Speaker 1 (37:33):
If you're not batting over three hundred, you are part
of the nope category. Because people just don't care. They
don't care about your average anymore. Yeah, the game is
the game has changed big time because they used to
be the number was the batan average.

Speaker 3 (37:49):
Yeah, people, what we talk about.

Speaker 1 (37:50):
You can feel seven out of ten times and still
be a Hall of Famer because you bat three hundred.
Well yeah, now you gotta hit three hundred home runs
home runs.

Speaker 3 (38:00):
Well, if you've betned three hundred, then you Hall of Famer.

Speaker 1 (38:03):
Now yeah, I'm like, that's what it should be like.
So you start to look at these numbers. Speaking of numbers,
last night, the Rangers put up a ridiculous amount of
runs and let me just tell you, it was the
first time that they scored over twenty runs in a
major league game since twenty eleven. They outscored their opponent

(38:27):
twenty two to two yesterday, or excuse me, twenty to
three over the Angels. The Angels, they might need to
be one of those teams that is regulated. You know,
we talked about that before. The Angels just don't want
to win at all. And that's embarrassing because the dude
got all tap the.

Speaker 3 (38:47):
Team from them. The league should take the team.

Speaker 1 (38:50):
They gotta do something because they got to get better
out there. What a lot of wasted talent in Anaheim.
Coming up next, our number two will continue to conversations
about the NFL.

Speaker 3 (39:01):
Brian A.

Speaker 1 (39:01):
Rackpo will be joining us, Mark Henry with his strongest take,
and we've got college football tonight, folks, The Morning Kickoff
rolls on right here on Sports Radio and thirteen hundred
The Zone. Welcome back to our number two of the
Morning Kickoff right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred
The Zone. Three days, three days away, noticed two days,

(39:26):
two days away from the kicking Texas and Ohio State,
and we have dove in with the players, got to
hear from coach Sark and all the expectations of the
upcoming weekend.

Speaker 3 (39:42):
We also got a chance to talk to our guy.

Speaker 1 (39:45):
Eric Henry of Horns two four seven as he breaks
broke down what he expects to see and he did
give us a victory for the Texas Long Horns.

Speaker 3 (39:55):
Coming up in the next segment, we will have Brian A.

Speaker 1 (39:58):
Rackpole, former law Hoorn, great NFL superstar, and I got
a chance to spend some time with him this past weekend.
He's gonna talk all things Texas as well and give
an update on his son as the football season for
high school kicks off tonight. But Mark, the NFL is
in full effect as well. They are making changes with

(40:21):
cuts and signings and there's just so much going on.
But one of the guys that we continue to want
to see get better and it just seems to never happen.

Speaker 3 (40:33):
Is your guy Mozzie Smith?

Speaker 1 (40:36):
Mazzi Smith is a guy for the Dallas Cowboys that
when the light goes on.

Speaker 3 (40:43):
It just seems like he's still.

Speaker 1 (40:46):
Not giving it his all. I know you and I
have talked about it. He's somebody that should be an
absolute monster when you think about this football team and
the expectations, but he's you'll not bring it in.

Speaker 3 (41:01):
Broughton Broughton h Brian Schottenheimer talked about Mozzie Smith.

Speaker 13 (41:06):
You know, it's a fair question, and that was part
of the conversation with Mazzi that, hey, you know, nothing
is guaranteed. You know, we're all competing and you've got
your fifty three man roster, but then you got your
game day roster and.

Speaker 3 (41:18):
And if you ain't playing, that's on you.

Speaker 1 (41:23):
What is it about Mozzie Smith that just the talent
is there? Like he is a massive human being. How
is this not working?

Speaker 3 (41:32):
Mark? You know what? Some people hard They they have all.

Speaker 2 (41:37):
The tools, but they can't piece it together. And it's
kind of like there's a There's been several guys that
I've watched growing up.

Speaker 3 (41:51):
One came from Michigan.

Speaker 2 (41:52):
Uh Taco Charleton that the Cowboys drafted Yep, fast, great size,
really good strength, but when it came to football application,
there was a disconnect. One of our former Texas longhorned
wide receivers, Limon Swede. They man Liman Swede in the

(42:15):
big game. He was the opposite. In the big games,
Limon Swede came up on top.

Speaker 3 (42:22):
He made the big catch, but when it was.

Speaker 2 (42:24):
A day to day monotonous play, he had drops kind
of you know, and and I hate it when you
when you have to single somebody out, but the greatness
is not always there. And the Cowboys they knew that
when they when they drafted him that he had an injury.

Speaker 3 (42:46):
He healed up or he said he healed up.

Speaker 2 (42:51):
Didn't have any real evidence that he held up, and
they drafted him anyway, which was a bad job on
their scouting department because they should have known that he
need surgery.

Speaker 1 (43:02):
Yeah, but now, I mean, where are you now? Like,
what is going on with you? Right now? They've given
you every opportunity you've been participating in the game. You've
had a bunch of reps at this point in your career.

Speaker 3 (43:16):
And did you forget what I said yesterday? What part.

Speaker 2 (43:20):
There were four guys that they cut on that defensive line.

Speaker 1 (43:23):
It should have been five. Yeah, but here's the deal.
They're giving you another golden ticket. The reason being your
former first round pick. They don't want to look bad. Well,
they don't want to look worse.

Speaker 12 (43:37):
It's too late.

Speaker 3 (43:39):
I agree with that. They look bad already.

Speaker 2 (43:43):
If the gay, if the gag can't play, then go
get somebody that could play. There was so many guys
hards that.

Speaker 3 (43:53):
Are not going to make teams.

Speaker 2 (43:55):
Not because they couldn't play, but because they We had
two or three guys in front of them that the
team had to sign. Go out there and find two
of those guys and sign them and put them on
the team.

Speaker 3 (44:13):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (44:14):
Well, they're gonna have to figure this out, and they're
gonna have to figure it out quickly because this is
the time. Now, it's ready to go. You got one week.
You got a week from today to be ready to go.
As Texas, Texas as the Dallas Cowboys get ready to
take on the Philadelphia Eagles in Philly. As they are

(44:34):
getting their rings that day. It's the ceremony.

Speaker 3 (44:37):
It is all.

Speaker 1 (44:38):
About the Philadelphia Eagles. All focus is on that. But
it is important to understand that this team right now
is not in a good position going into this season.
If there was any glimmer of hope, it is that
the fact that it is zero zero and you got
to start the season and get an opportunity to play,

(45:00):
because right now it is not a good look for
the Dallas Cowboys.

Speaker 3 (45:05):
In other news, all the players that were.

Speaker 1 (45:09):
Cut, some of those guys that got another opportunity have
accepted deals on the practice squads, and one of those
guys is Sam Ellinger. I know a lot of folks
were talking about Sam Ellinger and wondering what was going
to happen with him.

Speaker 3 (45:25):
The Steelers, by the way, signed DeShawn Jamison.

Speaker 1 (45:31):
He gets a chance to be on the practice squad,
so he stays in the NFL. But Sam Ellinger decided
to stay with the stay with the Denver Broncos on
a practice squad assignment, which was interesting to me because
I thought that Sam would probably try to find another
spot where he would be able to play instead of

(45:54):
being on the practice squad and be on the active roster.
But for him to be there with all of his
brothers on the Texas Longhorse, the Texas Broncos as we're
calling them right now. I think that's a good move.
If you remember Jaquindin Jackson, former recruit to the University
of Texas, then he went to Arkansas. He is sticking

(46:16):
with the Jaguars on their practice squad and a couple
of other guys that are getting an opportunity to play
as well. So you start to think about the journey
of these players practice squad moves that are being made,
and then you get a chance to go out there
and play again, so we will see what it is.

Speaker 2 (46:38):
He may feel comfortable with that system, and sometimes you
have to make a sacrifice to stay somewhere where if
you got an opportunity, you know you're gonna win well,
So I just assume that it is well.

Speaker 1 (46:53):
I think a lot of it has to do with
learning from Sean Payton as well in the NFL, So
that might be another reason for him to be able
to stay and want to be a part of that,
because if you're going to learn to how to play
quarterback at an elite level, this is a great place
for you to learn it from him. Even though I'm
not a Sean Payton fan, and I made that perfectly clear,

(47:16):
I'm not a Sean Payton fan.

Speaker 3 (47:19):
It is good for him to get an opportunity.

Speaker 1 (47:21):
I agree, Isaiah and a or former Texas wide receiver
who we thought was going to give us a chance
to play. No, No, he is signing with the Packers
on the practice squad as well. But I want to
get into this conversation Mark, because this is something that
is very, very unique when you start to think about it.

Speaker 3 (47:44):
And what do I mean by unique? I mean it's unique.

Speaker 1 (47:47):
Because the Dallas Cowboys refuse to do things like this.
All Pro safety Kyle Hamilton and the Baltimore Ravens have
reached an agreement on a four year, one hundred and
four million dollar extension, making it the largest for safety
in NFL history now and it has eighty two million
of it being guaranteed, which will surpassed the previous record

(48:12):
of forty five for a safety. Now you're saying, Harge,
what are you talking about, Well, he wasn't eligible for
a contract, yet.

Speaker 3 (48:21):
They're getting ahead of it.

Speaker 1 (48:23):
And now we don't even have a problem about Kyle
Hamilton getting his money.

Speaker 2 (48:30):
No, and guess what, the money is gonna go up
next year and the year after and they don't have
to worry about it because they got him locked away.

Speaker 1 (48:39):
Oh man, imagine that concept of being able to sign
a guy before his time so you don't have to
worry about it on his time. It just doesn't make
sense that we're still talking about I need to quit
being so mad about it and just let it go.
But in the other news, good news, the Minnesota Vikings

(49:02):
have acquired Adam Thielen seven million dollars for a twenty
twenty and a twenty twenty seven fifth round pick and
a twenty twenty six seventh round pick from the Panthers,
and the Panthers acquired a fourth round pick in twenty
twenty seven and a twenty twenty six fifth round pick, so.

Speaker 3 (49:22):
They are working on that deal.

Speaker 1 (49:23):
And this was great because JJ McCarthy needed an experienced
veteran wide receiver to work with in those slots because
Justin Jefferson is going to stretch the field.

Speaker 3 (49:35):
Jordan Addison is going to be.

Speaker 1 (49:37):
Out because he's dealing with a suspension over the first
three games. So this is a good move for the
Minnesota Vikings.

Speaker 3 (49:47):
Yeah, they did real good by making this acquisition. There's another.

Speaker 2 (49:54):
Couple of really good veteran wide receivers out there. But
as you can see, the veteran wide receivers a starting
to go. Cooper gets picked up by the Raiders, and
now I think that the only one left is Cooper,
that the other Cooper that played for the Raiders a

(50:17):
season and a half.

Speaker 3 (50:18):
Ago, no doubt. Lodell coming up next, Brian A.

Speaker 1 (50:21):
Rackpole, Lifetime Longhorn, and a Legend of the Locker Room
right here on the morning kickoff on Sports Radio AM
thirteen hundred the Zone. It's Thursday, so you know exactly
what that means. Eight seventeen gives us an opportunity to
have our special segment called Legends of.

Speaker 3 (50:40):
The Locker Room.

Speaker 1 (50:40):
In what better way than to bring in a legend
from the Forty Acres and NFL. He played ten seasons
as a linebacker in the NFL, but when he was
on the Forty Acres, he became a national champion. He
won the Bronco, the Girsky Award, he won the Ted
Hendricks Award, the Lumbard already, the Bill Willis.

Speaker 3 (51:01):
He was a.

Speaker 1 (51:02):
Unanimous All American Defensive Player of the year after year
after year.

Speaker 3 (51:07):
And of course he's one to kick it.

Speaker 1 (51:10):
He is our guy Brian Orak, Paul Rack, How you doing, buddy.

Speaker 3 (51:15):
I'm good man. How you was doing?

Speaker 11 (51:17):
I'm really good.

Speaker 3 (51:18):
Were excited to you on man. You know, you know
you wouldn't know this with all the awards that he
that he won.

Speaker 2 (51:28):
Brian came to my charity event and uh and I
you know I always people always judge me a boy.
This dumbbell that I lifted, that was you know, they
said it was like Thoris Hammer and there I've seen
hundreds of strong men not be able to lift this
dumb ball off the ground. Brian was able to pick

(51:51):
up my dumbbell off the ground.

Speaker 3 (51:53):
Oh, I.

Speaker 12 (51:57):
Remember that I got I got a little left in
the take, not too much.

Speaker 3 (52:00):
But got a little bit.

Speaker 1 (52:02):
Hey, thanks for hanging out with me on Saturday.

Speaker 3 (52:05):
We had a good time over.

Speaker 1 (52:06):
At AGB brought to you by the folks over at
Brown Distributing, And it was kind of funny. I was
listening to some of the people talk to you about
your career and what they remember about you on the
forty Acres but obviously win in the National Championship and
being able to be recognized for your talent by all
those awards. The one thing that you kept talking about

(52:29):
was like the brotherhood with the people that were there
and how you got to that point.

Speaker 3 (52:34):
And this is.

Speaker 1 (52:35):
Something that a lot of folks are looking at this
Texas football team for this season and trying to see
if they have that same thing. But talk about that
brotherhood that you have with all those players there, but
then also what you see from this team.

Speaker 12 (52:49):
Yeah, that's what it's all about when you're trying to
build a team. You know, we had our era, We
had a ton of talent, a ton of people from
all different backgrounds, and then we come together. It's very
cliche to say, but it's the truth.

Speaker 1 (53:02):
Man.

Speaker 12 (53:03):
It's like almost like I remember the Titans type of
type of atmosphere when it comes to building a dynasty,
and that's kind of what we had. You know, we
had so many, so many great players, man, and obviously
a lot of us went out to continue to play
football in the National Football League. And that's kind of
what I see with this squad, as you've seen with

(53:25):
that we were that close the past two years, you know,
losing in the semis, but that you know, it's you
can't d well on the losses. You kind of look
in the future, look for the future because a lot
of guys, as what we've been seeing, a lot of
guys get drafted because of their talents, so you'll lose ten,
eight to twelve guys per year. But then you just
got to reload the clip. And that's what these guys

(53:47):
have been doing. And I'm extremely excited about what this
particular long one team is getting ready to getting ready
to accomplish. I'm not too happy about the number one seed.
That's just me personally. I like playing that underdog role
of always like that, but there's nothing wrong with it
as far as the guys.

Speaker 11 (54:06):
He's got to take care of business.

Speaker 1 (54:08):
So the one thing that I wanted to ask you
about too is you know, they got that savage over
there named Colin Simmons, and you start to look at
his development, and this was a guy that was very
confident when he got in. He just wanted to get
on the field a little bit more. He talked about
now he's getting a lot more burned. He's expected to
get a lot more burned. But his first step off

(54:31):
that edge is something that you either got it or
you don't, and then you get a chance to develop
it and push it to the next level and I
think he's one of those guys when you look at him,
do you see a little bit of yourself?

Speaker 3 (54:43):
Yeah, for sure, for sure.

Speaker 12 (54:44):
A lot of people always you know, when they ask
me questions and things of that, next duties, speaking engagements,
you know, they ship they said that Colin has a
lot of you, you know what we've seen with you.
And I was like, yeah, because it's it's something you
just can't teach. You know, you got it to be doing.
It's that quick twitch that great age Russers have. Man,
you can, you can have as many amount of training

(55:07):
as you can, but at the end of the day,
you got to be born with it. And he's a
guy that was born with it. You know, he's a
he's a guy, he's the edge center. It's a guy
that can affect the play each and every time. It's
a guy that can, Uh, it's not just about the
sacks man, it's really about, like I said, affecting the player,
affecting what what the other offense is doing. And that's

(55:28):
what that's what that guy can do. And you know,
he came out the gay as a true freshman and
really made a name for himself. We've had it and
I can want to continue to see his career grow
and be one of the best edge rushers at this university,
and he can go on after they win championships. Obviously
we got highest Expectationsan.

Speaker 3 (55:46):
Have you have you been able to get your hand
on him?

Speaker 2 (55:50):
I have not.

Speaker 3 (55:51):
All I have.

Speaker 12 (55:52):
All I have was conversations. We've had a lot of
conversations throughout even when he's playing. We'll have conversations throughout
on the at the state, throughout practices, but I haven't
been able to really work with them. Hopefully maybe something
one of these summers will get together.

Speaker 2 (56:08):
But no, Brian, you had two moves that they really
really applied now in the NFL stylear game, and I
think that college is adopting some of those moves that
you did. That that one arm stab that you used
to do and that hand that two hands white. I
don't know if I've seen Colin Simmons do the two

(56:32):
hands wipe, but I've seen him do the stab. Like man,
I'd love to see you get over there and teaching
one of them, teaching that bonus move.

Speaker 12 (56:41):
Yeah, for sure, for sure, But it all it's all
in due time, you know, it all comes, you know,
with with more experience and more repetition. You know, it's
it's it's it's something you want. As you keep getting
older and more experience and more reps and more seasons go,
you add stuff to your repertoire, but you never want
to take away from your.

Speaker 3 (56:59):
Base and what you like to do.

Speaker 12 (57:00):
You know, I was the speed of Power guy, and
then I incorporated the swipe, you know, the stab, the
Jeff step inside out. So it's a lot of things
you start adding to your repertoire as you keep going.

Speaker 1 (57:13):
We're talking to Brian and Rack Pop lifetime Longhorn and
one of the coolest brothers out there. Every time I
start talking, I realized my voice is not as deep
as yours.

Speaker 3 (57:23):
And I'm like, man, I got a deep voice.

Speaker 1 (57:24):
I'm like, dog gone, bro, I can't have all this
base up in here, but Dame.

Speaker 12 (57:29):
Jones, I know it's not man. I've been this waistles
three is over that I've been this way for a
long time. I need some milk. I need some.

Speaker 3 (57:43):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (57:44):
Brian geading into this weekend, obviously the hype as you
talked about being ranked number one, but you were in Columbus,
weren't you that first time they went up there and
made some things that have just that that that was
that's when the run started.

Speaker 3 (57:59):
That's when you knew.

Speaker 1 (58:00):
That you were going to have a chance to go
play for a national championship. If you could give them
these players one bit of advice of going on into Columbus,
what would that advice be?

Speaker 12 (58:12):
Man, this is gonna be funny, but my biggest advice
is turn off the TVs and get off social media.
I mean, honestly, that's kind of when you it's gonna
be so much expectations and so much he says, she
says stuff, and you know they can they do this?

Speaker 3 (58:29):
Can they do that?

Speaker 12 (58:30):
So my thing is trust the process, trust the game play.
Y'all been working extremely hard all all camp, all week preparation,
turn off all the extra distractions, and then when you
go out to Columbus, it's it's it's it's a huge game.
But let's treat it like another game, you know, Let's
treat it like we've been at we've been at the

(58:50):
top before. Let's go out there and and and.

Speaker 3 (58:53):
Do our thing.

Speaker 12 (58:55):
And I'm not obviously we want all Horns to take
care of business. But if they got our number, that
we then they got our number. But at least we
can go in there with the right mentality that we
gave it all and we see what happens. But my
biggest take, which what we did in our past, was
we turned off all distractions and we weren't worrying about.

Speaker 3 (59:14):
Predictions and things of that nature. We went out there
and took care of business.

Speaker 2 (59:20):
Mark, you got something, Well, the only thing I got
is right now is as this team mirrors I think
talent wise. You know, you got the big athletic quarterback.
You got the versatility and power a running back. You
got a defense that is swarming, and it's got guys

(59:40):
that can get off the edge, and they got good
smart guys in the secondary. Like, do you think that
this team kind of mirrors what y'all did?

Speaker 12 (59:51):
Yeah, for sure, for sure. And that's put it again.
That's that's giving them a lot of preseason praise. They
got to go out there and perform and execute. But
on paper, this team is very very talented, very talented.

Speaker 3 (01:00:04):
Man.

Speaker 12 (01:00:05):
They man, we got the you know, college bachel's back,
which I'm CJ. Box. I'm extremely excited about him. I
think it's not a lot of not a lot of talk.
Well it is, but I think he was a guy
that I'm really really excited to help out arts because
you know, it's gonna be times where you know, archers,
you know, is gonna you know, who knows, who knows

(01:00:25):
what can happen. It's gonna be a lot of sudden change.
It's gonna be It's no Arch ain't gonna be perfect
the whole season, on the whole game. So we're gonna
rely on CJ. The defense, everybody play their part to
where we can give the guys more opportunities to go
score the ball because that's what you know, that's that's
how football game happens.

Speaker 3 (01:00:41):
Not everybody.

Speaker 12 (01:00:41):
Everything's gonna be perfect. But as far as the comparisons,
this team has it all just like we did, and
they can really really finish at the finish line this year.

Speaker 1 (01:00:51):
Well we're gonna be waiting for them to finish at
that finish line. But it all starts at eleven o'clock
in Columbus.

Speaker 3 (01:00:58):
You've been there.

Speaker 1 (01:00:59):
You know what it's like to be in the shoe,
but most importantly, you know what it's like to be
a champion. And we're hopeful that this Texas football team,
this season, we'll be able to handle their business on
this road to the Promised Land, as we'd like to say.
Right there, as as always, man, thank you for taking
the time. We appreciate you, Rack, and good luck with

(01:01:20):
your son in football this weekend and you kick the
season off.

Speaker 3 (01:01:24):
Man, it's time to go. Yeah.

Speaker 12 (01:01:27):
Fun is getting ready for his journey's high school journey,
so we're pretty excited.

Speaker 3 (01:01:31):
My little golf clothes on out.

Speaker 1 (01:01:34):
Hey, hit the fairways, baby, hit the fairways baby. Hey, thanks, Rack,
appreciate you. All right there he is Brian the Rack Polk.
Coming up next, We've got our guy, Mark Henry with
his World's Strongest take right here on the morning kickoff
on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.

Speaker 3 (01:01:54):
You know what time it is.

Speaker 1 (01:01:56):
It's the man, the myth, the legend, WWE Hall.

Speaker 3 (01:01:59):
Of Famer, World's Strongest.

Speaker 1 (01:02:01):
Man, Mark Henry bringing you his world's strongest take.

Speaker 3 (01:02:06):
Take it away, big fellow. All right, what's up?

Speaker 2 (01:02:09):
Man?

Speaker 12 (01:02:11):
You know what time it is?

Speaker 3 (01:02:12):
What time is it?

Speaker 2 (01:02:14):
It's time for the world's Strongest Take by the world's
strongest man, Marcus.

Speaker 3 (01:02:23):
Back then they didn't know me.

Speaker 2 (01:02:27):
Now I'm.

Speaker 3 (01:02:29):
They're all on.

Speaker 2 (01:02:31):
Guys. My take today is as we get closer to
Saturday and the big game between the Texas Longhorns and
the Ohio State Buckeyes, football is about to get sad
for me because this is the last year that we're

(01:02:54):
gonna have Lee Corso. And before Lee Corso came on,
till Brando was the guy, beIN o'cook was on there,
and then they brought in a Craig Fowler and a
guy by the name Elite Corso who was a coach
at Indiana. Not great as a coach, Hart I'm just

(01:03:18):
gonna go on record right now, coach Corso didn't have
a good record. But then they brought in Craig James,
and Lee Corso said to everybody, He's like, there's no
Dick Vatel in college. I want to be that guy.

(01:03:39):
And he achieved that harsh he was able to do that.
He started that job at fifty two and all these
years later, Like I get emotional about it because I
don't know college football without Lee Corso.

Speaker 3 (01:03:56):
So like to see him leave this season.

Speaker 2 (01:04:00):
After this season is over, I don't think that that.

Speaker 3 (01:04:05):
Show is ever gonna be the same again.

Speaker 2 (01:04:08):
You can get somebody else to put the head gears
on of who he picks. But there's not gonna be
somebody that go, you got that right, coach, And you're
not gonna have somebody that's gonna be I stole it. Yeah,
I stole it, not so fast. That's Lee Corso. Like so,

(01:04:31):
like my take is that football college football game day,
they're gonna have to go out and find a Charles
Barkley type of guy to come in and just to
feel the shoes of Leek Corso.

Speaker 3 (01:04:50):
What say you?

Speaker 1 (01:04:52):
Yeah, it's gonna be interesting to see. But I think
the other part of it is the fact that now
you have Nick say that is there. Now he's not
gonna give you the crazy antics that one. Lee Corso
gave us the funny guy that will go back and

(01:05:12):
forth with everyone and give you the quick humor in
those situations. But he's definitely somebody that can can handle
being in that spot that spotlight. But on the other hand,
to your point, a lot of people are just like you, Mark,
they don't know waking up for a college game day

(01:05:34):
without Lee Corso. He's raised a lot of people, and
he's been in the living room and let's just tell you.
I'm gonna tell you this, I got a chance to
watch and I'll find it on my social media and
I'll retweet it. They did a special segment to tell
him goodbye.

Speaker 3 (01:05:53):
Coach Shark was on there.

Speaker 1 (01:05:54):
Coach Shark even addressed it at his press conference on
Monday about how it's going to be his last hurrah
at college game day. It will be a very, very
sad day. A lot of folks will need to make
sure that they have a lot of.

Speaker 3 (01:06:12):
Tissue and.

Speaker 1 (01:06:15):
Rags to scarves to cover up their faces because they're
gonna be crying so much.

Speaker 3 (01:06:21):
It's going to be an emotional time for a lot
of people. But if you've.

Speaker 1 (01:06:24):
Noticed over the last few years, he's been a shell
of himself. So it's like us being able to watch
somebody and say, oh, let's just keep doing it. Let's
just keep doing it because we love him being there. Well,
it took a lot of work for him to be
there as well for his family, and one part of
that montage that they did for him, his son says,

(01:06:50):
now I get to spend more time with my dad.
And this is a grown man saying that because every
week he's been gone, you know, so those emotions are
are gonna be so high for so many people, and
for him to battle himself back from his stroke to
be able to be in that living room, our living
rooms day in and day out. This is this is

(01:07:12):
gonna be a tough weekend for a lot of people.
The person that I'm most worried about, to be perfectly
honest with with you, No, don't do that to him,
Kirk Herbstreet. Kirk Herbs, don't. Don't put Craig James name
out there with a lot of people don't like Craig James, now,
you know. But Kirk Herbstreet is the person that I'm

(01:07:33):
most worried about because he's been taking care of coach
the entire time. But let me ask you this, because
you were asking.

Speaker 3 (01:07:42):
About the replacement.

Speaker 1 (01:07:44):
Do you think that they would bring in bring back
a mac Brown and have he and coach Nick Saban
on the same deal.

Speaker 3 (01:07:53):
Togd.

Speaker 2 (01:07:54):
I think that would be a good move because Coach
Brown is one of the more entertaining, colorful characters that
you can find, and he knows ball like nobody knows ball.

Speaker 3 (01:08:06):
He's a national championship coach.

Speaker 2 (01:08:08):
He's not just a good coach, he's not just a CEO.
But he's one of the most clip guys I've ever met.

Speaker 1 (01:08:14):
Right, So those are the types of things that we
got to look at to kind of motivate those types
of people to see what exactly is going to happen
after it. But make no mistake about it, it will
be a different Saturday this Saturday than it will the
next Saturday and the next Saturday and the next Saturday

(01:08:35):
after that, because now we got to kind of try
to adjust our mindset of college game day without lead
Corso great take boy, We're on strongest man. We're gonna
close out the show and send it to Dan Patrick.
But first we got college football starting today and we'll

(01:08:56):
talk about it right here on the morning kickoff on
sports Radio AM thirteen.

Speaker 3 (01:09:01):
Hundred The Zone.

Speaker 1 (01:09:02):
If you missed any parts of the show, make sure
you get over to a podcast page wherever you get
your podcasts. Also, make sure you tune in this afternoon
the Craig Way and Cameron Parker on The Craig Way
Show as they break down all things that have been
happening in the world of sports and entertainment. Because you

(01:09:23):
also know that Craig will like to talk to you
about food, He'll talk to you about his travels, and
of course he's gonna preview the Texas and Ohio State
ball game, which is two days away, and we are
super excited about that.

Speaker 3 (01:09:40):
But we have football tonight, folks. That's right. College football
is back and it starts tonight. Four thirty.

Speaker 1 (01:09:48):
Four point thirty is the first game that will take
place tonight with Boise State, the number twenty five ranked team.
We'll take on South Florida on on the Four Letter Network.
And there's more games tonight and Boise State, by the way,
is favored by five and a half. Rutgers will host Ohio.

(01:10:11):
That game will be on the Big Ten Network. That
game kicks off at five o'clock. We also have bowling
bowling Green versus Lafayette. We have East Carolina and NC State.
That game is on the ACC network. That's at six o'clock.
You got UCF that will be taking on Jacksonville State

(01:10:32):
on ESPN plus, a lot of games on ESPN plus.

Speaker 3 (01:10:36):
Wyoming at Akron.

Speaker 1 (01:10:38):
That game will take place at six o'clock on ESPN
Plus as well.

Speaker 3 (01:10:43):
You got Oklahoma State playing ut Martin tonight.

Speaker 1 (01:10:47):
Sam Houston will be taking on excuse me, Sam Houghton,
not Sam Houston. Houston the Cougars will be taking on
Stephen F. Austin tonight. The Kooks our favorite by twenty
two and a half. You've got Nebraska taking on Cincinnati
at Arrowhead. That game will tip off at eight o'clock tonight,

(01:11:10):
and Big ten you will have Wisconsin versus Miami of
Ohio and in the night with Stony Brook taking on
San Diego State. Friday, Charlton State will take on We'll
talk about that tomorrow, but Tarleton State will take on Army.
And Tarleton won last week forty two to nothing against

(01:11:31):
Portland State. But you're getting ready to play Army, and
that is a totally different type of ball club when
you got to battle the option of Army, and the
fact of the matter is they are going to punch
you in the face and there is no quit. I repeat,
there is no quit in the way that they go

(01:11:52):
about their business. Also Friday night, Georgia Tech and Colorado
will talk about that tomorrow because Georgia Tech is on
a mission. Some of their players are talking a little
trash already about what they've seen from Colorado in the
past few seasons. So we'll see how it all breaks

(01:12:13):
down when it comes to that ball game.

Speaker 3 (01:12:16):
Also, I wanted to talk.

Speaker 1 (01:12:17):
A little bit about major League baseball once again, because
what we were talking about before you start to look
at the games and see exactly who these guys are becoming.
We're getting closer and closer to that time where some
decisions have to be made. They're talking about trade deadlines
and all the different things that are involved in it.
But teams are either gonna fade or they're going to

(01:12:40):
get stronger and stronger and stronger. And there are some
teams that are starting to play some really good baseball
across the Major League, and teams need to try to
understand that if you're going to make a move, you
got to start making moves now.

Speaker 3 (01:12:55):
And I'm not necessarily just.

Speaker 1 (01:12:56):
Talking about what you're gonna move on your roster, but
I'm talking about as a team in the Al East,
the Toronto Blue Jays and the Boston Red Sox. The
Red Sox are a team that if they can get
everybody healthy on the mound, they got a chance to
make the playoffs. You look at what the Yankees were doing.

(01:13:17):
The Blue Jays are leading the East by four games.
The Detroit Tigers are leading the Central, leading the Central
by eight and a half games, eight and a half
games with just a month left to play, and the Astros,
the Mariners, and the Rangers are all in this little

(01:13:37):
log jam. But it's mostly the Astros and the Mariners
that are in this run for the playoffs. In the NL,
the Phillies the Mets top two teams in the NL East.
Philly is continuing to swing on hot bad. Although they've
lost three in a row, the Mets have won three
in a row, seven of ten in their last seven,

(01:13:59):
and ten in their last ten ball games, so big
time matchups coming.

Speaker 3 (01:14:03):
The Brewers continue to be at the.

Speaker 1 (01:14:06):
Top of the major leagues with an eighty three and
fifty one record. They've lost the y'all yesterday, but they're
gonna be just fine. The Cubbies are trying to make
a move. A team that I'm very disappointed in is
the Cincinnati Reds. I thought that they were gonna be
a lot better, but they're fifteen games out of first
place in the Central and then the Dodgers Padres are

(01:14:30):
are sitting pretty in the NL West. The Dodgers I
own apology, Marcus. I own an apology to Sho hal Tani.
You know I was talking a little bit of trash
about him yesterday, he said, I did, he showed up.

Speaker 3 (01:14:45):
He's like candy Man.

Speaker 1 (01:14:47):
You say candy Man too many times, he'll show up
out of nowhere. I was talking about the fact that
shoe Hat had struggled on the mound and his last
three starts, but then all of a sudden, he goes
out there and pitch five innings, two hits, one run,
one earn run, nine strikeouts, nine strikeouts in his performance yesterday,

(01:15:09):
and now he sits at one and one, and again
I'm a little disappointed in what I've seen from the
Cincinnati Reds. They're team that coming into the season, with
all the talent that they had, you thought they would
be better. But if you don't have the proper pitching,
it's gonna be a long, long season. Tomorrow, it'll be
a free for all football Friday. We will have special guests.

(01:15:32):
We've got Tommy Yarsh. Tommy Yarsh will be joining us
to talk all things Dallas Cowboys at eight o'clock.

Speaker 3 (01:15:42):
We got Ann Parker.

Speaker 1 (01:15:43):
Coleman will be joining us tomorrow to preview that's Texas
and Ohio State matchup. But we'll also talk Texas High
school football. As Texas high school football will kick off
today tonight. There will be games in Flugerville, like Travis Wes,
There's game all over the city starting tonight. And this

(01:16:04):
is as somebody who played Texas high school football, this
is the most exciting time of the year for these
high school students. You saw all the helmets and helmet
decals with dad where all the parents are in the
locker room. They got to take the pictures with mom,
and this is what it's all about. And everybody's trying
to get to Arlington to play in the state championship game.

(01:16:28):
But this is where the dreams are starting. I'll be
at Flugerville. I'll be checking out Weis's tonight versus McNeil.
I'll be in Colleen tomorrow watching Ellison, my alma mater,
post conference Cove and got some buddies coming to town,
so we're gonna check that game out. But make sure
you come and hang out with me on Saturday as
I'll be having a watch party at Cover three on

(01:16:52):
Anderson Lane for the Texas and Ohio state ball game.
It'll be brought to you by bud Like, come in,
hang out, get some food, and hopefully we'll be talking victory.
From the Texas Longhorns for Eric Henry, for Brian, a
rackpole from Mark Henry, from Marcus, I'm your boy, Harball Harge,

(01:17:13):
and just remember this, don't believe everything you see, because
even salt looks like sugar.

Speaker 3 (01:17:18):
Have a great day, peace,
