We are eight days away from kickoff in Columbus, Ohio, at the Horseshoe as the Texas Longhorns travel to play against the Ohio State Buckeyes. Today, we talked about the drama in Dallas as the contract issues continue with Jerry Jones and Micah Parsons. Some Texas players make the All-SEC Team and the Earl Campbell’s Watchlist. College football starts with Zero Week. The Iowa State Cyclones and the Kansas State Wildcats travel to Dublin, Ireland’s Aviva Stadium, to face off in a Big 12 showdown. The SEC has decided to move to a nine-game SEC conference schedule. How will that affect conference rivals and non-conference scheduling? The Houston Texans and the Dallas Cowboys play their final preseason games. Plus, we have conversations with Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports, Tommy Yarrish of DallasCowboys.com, and KVUE’s Anne-Parker Coleman. You can hear it all here on “The Morning Kickoff Show!”

(02:08):
if it's good enough, you might even hear it on air.
So Marcus and I we're in here show prepping this morning,
and we're going back and forth about how we were
going to open the show. And obviously Jackson Dart has
done an unbelievable job in New York. Everybody's talking about
him and what he's been able to achieve at this
particular moment, all the excitement. Then you look at the

(02:30):
Pittsburgh Steelers as they handled their business as well against
the New England Patriots.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
But that's not the story.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
The story is the back and forth that is going
on with the Dallas Cowboys and the drama that we
are here. I know people are probably in the car
talking about, Hey, hers Gut's talk about the SEC. We
will talk about the SEC coming up in just a
moment with Ross Dellinger. You don't want to miss it.
He's been all over this story and it's been going
on for a while. He is going to break it

(03:00):
all down for what the changes are, and you might
want to look at the schedules, because schedules, some teams
are going to fall off that you were looking forward
to seeing.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
That's just my opinion. We'll get it from Ross as well, and.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
We're going to talk a little bit more about the
Dallas Cowboys, but right now we're going to talk about
them because this back and forth with Jerry Jones, David Mugiletta,
and Michael Parsons has gotten to the point of frustration
for so many people.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
The he say, she say, soap opera.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
Drama that has become the relationship in Dallas another stories and.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
Layers to all of this. We get it is.

Speaker 1 (03:43):
He said, she said, let's get this figured out, let's
get this done, so be it.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
But the conversations with.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
One Jerry Jones, the one Michael Irvin, and the time
that is being spent through out these conversations has been
something that is definitely so proper worthy. And we've called
it before. These are the days of our lives in
Valley Ranch, but not Valley Wrench anymore, but the Star Frisco.

(04:15):
But here's JJ talking about David Bogoletta and talking about
the fact of how David decided to respond to Jerry's offer.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
It'd be the highest guaranteed player ever on defense.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
It's what he's been offered.

Speaker 3 (04:31):
When we wanted to send the details to the agent,
the agent sold us to stick it up. Mike and
I talk and then we were going to send it
over to the agent. We had our agreements on term, amount, guarantees, everything,
and the agent said, don't bother because we've got all
that to negotiate. Lot already negotiate that already moved off
my mark from several areas we've had the negotiation. In

(04:54):
my mind, the agent's trying to get his nose in
it and try to come in there and improve off
the mark that we' already said.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
Well, here's the deal.

Speaker 1 (05:02):
And I am really curious to this, And this is
why these types of moments are interesting to me. You
cannot get a player to agree to something without talking
to his agent unless the agent is not representing the
player anymore. I want to see what the players union

(05:26):
is going to say about that.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
I want to see what the players all the lawyers.

Speaker 1 (05:34):
Basically, I want to see what these guys are going
to do about this, because you, yes, in the olden
days you can have a gentleman's agreement, but now.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
There are lawyers that are involved now.

Speaker 1 (05:45):
I don't believe Bogerleta would say that to him.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
I don't think that's how he works.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
I know he's tough, absolutely, and that's the type of
agent that I would want to have representing me, because
you're gonna get me everything that I deserve.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
Football is a violent sport.

Speaker 1 (06:01):
The average time in the NFL is not what We're
used to seeing things change, so you want to have
generational wealth. Yes, Jerry said, we would have made him
the highest played player at his position. But still there's
ways to go about the business, and right now it
does not seem that they are going about it the

(06:24):
legitimate way. The agents definitely have to be involved. We have,
and not only that, you're setting the trend for the
next guy, and the next guy and.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
The guy after that.

Speaker 1 (06:34):
That is why players go on strike, because they want
to make sure that they are compensated properly. We just
saw the valuation of Dallas Cowboys. What is it, twelve
point eight billion dollars, first double digit team. There's a
lot of money that is involved with this team. So
people understand that. But the head coach, Brian Schottenheimer, still

(07:00):
believes that Michael Parsons will be in camp.

Speaker 4 (07:04):
Because I think at the end of the day, we
feel like Mike is going to be out there when
we can line up against Philadelphia here in fifteen days
or whatever it is.

Speaker 2 (07:10):
And you know, so, no answers. I feel good about that.

Speaker 4 (07:15):
Yeah, I think my tone hasn't changed, my answer hasn't
really changed.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
I'm focused on the field.

Speaker 4 (07:20):
I'm focused on the guys that are working in the
business side of it's going to take care of itself.
And but no, I mean, I could answer those questions
all day long.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
Interesting, interesting, and I appreciate that.

Speaker 1 (07:33):
And I like the fact that he's holding out hope,
so to speak, because does that coaches speak, though I
would say in a certain part of it, I would
say it's coach to speak. But because of the relationship
that Schottenheimer seems to have forged with all of his players,

(07:53):
not just Micah, Micah is the star.

Speaker 2 (07:56):
Micah is the best player.

Speaker 1 (07:57):
On your team excluding CD lamb Okay, so you and
he is your best player on defense, So you have
got to have spent some time with him. And this
isn't his first year with the Cowboys, so he has
spent some time with him.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
But he's in a unique.

Speaker 1 (08:15):
Situation because of the fact that your star player in
your first year that you were trying to impress the
fan base that hey, they got the higher right now,
you're handcuffed a little bit because you do not have
your best player on your defense going up against the
defending NFL champions at the game.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
Yeah, and you are.

Speaker 1 (08:39):
You are put in a place that not only are
you going up against them, it's a divisional game and
a rivalry game without your best player. Now, they could
get the deal done like they've done with everything else.
But you know as well as I do. I know
MIC's out there trying to work and be around the organization,
and that's great. But the thing that I always look
at is when you're not out there playing football and

(09:03):
you're not getting in football shape, you're not gonna be
in football shape when the first game starts because you
hadn't been out there working.

Speaker 2 (09:11):
Yeah, you gotta take a hit, you gotta hit somebody.
And you can work out as much as you want.

Speaker 1 (09:15):
You can lift, you can run, you can do all that,
but the cutting, the movement.

Speaker 4 (09:19):
The.

Speaker 1 (09:22):
Kinesiology part of what you're supposed to be doing is
not happen. And those are the moments that scare me
because what Jerry has been saying, Man, I gave somebody
some money and he wasn't even out there for half
the games.

Speaker 2 (09:38):
You just listened to it just a little while ago.

Speaker 5 (09:40):
Unless Parsons pull his version of an Emmitt Smith in
the very first two plays, he gets two sacks.

Speaker 2 (09:45):
Yeah, and that would be great.

Speaker 1 (09:47):
That would be great, but history has told us it
don't always work like that. And to Jerry's point, he's
under contract. He is under contract. So I see where
Jerry is with that. But here's where Michael Parsons is
with that, because he posted on his TikTok. I mean

(10:08):
that's where everybody posts everything. It's either take your social
media by the way, follow us at AM thirteen hundred
zone on all social media platforms. But he decided he
wanted to go Alan Iverson.

Speaker 6 (10:22):
I'm gonna win wherever I go. Wherever I go, I'm
ana win. I don't care where I go. I don't
give a damn what team I go to.

Speaker 2 (10:30):
I'm a win. I'm a win regardless, it don't matter,
It don't matter.

Speaker 6 (10:36):
You talk about making your teammates better.

Speaker 2 (10:38):
I'm gonna make them better wherever I go.

Speaker 6 (10:41):
I'm ana win. Just like they named me the MVP,
That's what I am. That's what I always felt like
I was. I've been in his league for six years.

Speaker 2 (10:48):
I felt like I was the MVP for six years.

Speaker 1 (10:52):
Tell them, tell them, Michael, tell him, let us know.

Speaker 5 (10:57):
They got Michael Dorman audio editing. Oh man, he's turned up.

Speaker 1 (11:01):
And the one thing that I continue to understand about
the business is that it's just that if you go
stand on business, you need to stand on business. But
the one thing that I continue to try to understand
is when is the resolution going to happen?

Speaker 2 (11:18):
Micah's under contract.

Speaker 1 (11:20):
Jerry knows that, Micah knows that, Muguletta knows that. But
at the end of the day, we're playing all these
political games again, posturing to see who's going to give in,
and the only people that is hurting is the fans
that support the Dallas Cowboys. They gotta get this thing
figured out asap asap. Rockey, We're just getting started on

(11:44):
a feel good football Friday.

Speaker 2 (11:45):
That didn't sound like it feel good, but.

Speaker 1 (11:47):
Coming up next, we're gonna talk about some good things
with the Texas Longhorns, all SEC team, Earl Campbell, Watchless,
and so much more on a feel good Friday edition
of The Morning Kickoff on Sports Radio and thirteen hundred
The Zone. Welcome back to the Morning Kickoff right here
on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Coming up,

(12:08):
in the next segment, we'll be talking to Ross Denager
of Yahoo Sports, who was talking about the SEC change
in the schedule that is gonna be coming out next season,
and it's going to be interesting because some of those
big gangs that you thought were going to be on
the calendar may not be on the calendar. So it'll
be interesting to talk. We are eight days away from

(12:32):
Texas and Ohio State. Jordan Shipley day said, Griffin days,
Van Malone days, Wayne mcgarritty days. Whoever got you to
understand that number eight was a number at the University
of Texas that had success. That's how many days we
are away from it. Eight days away. And shout out
to CB for always posting the numbers on the countdown

(12:57):
as always.

Speaker 2 (12:58):
Shout out to K State Sam. That's right.

Speaker 1 (13:00):
K State opens up the football season tomorrow in Dublin, Ireland,
and his mom and dad are living their best life
over there. We'll get into that conversation as well, but
right now I want to go into the awards list.
We've gone through the awards list with the football team
all season, long before the season even started, we've been

(13:22):
talking about this and so it's been an exciting, exciting time.
And the SEC has given out their All SEC preseason
teams and this is voted on by the coaches and
the representatives of the SEC and everything that is going
on with that. The Texas Longhorns had eight representatives on

(13:45):
all three levels, the Florida Gators had eight. Twelve teams
had at least one first team All SEC representative, including
the conference best with eight was from Georgia. So there's
a lot of talent in Georgia and that's one of
the teams that we continue to look at. Alabama and

(14:05):
Georgia each had eleven, with Texas and Florida following with
ten and eight. The starting quarterback on the first team
is Grant no Smier. Grant no Smier is the starting quarterback.
He's the one that's getting all the hype. I know
a lot of folks have been talking about him. So
that's why you don't see Arch Manning on that list.

(14:28):
But the running back, Qvian Contravian Weisner University of Texas
comes in as a first team running back.

Speaker 2 (14:36):
DJ Campbell.

Speaker 1 (14:38):
DJ Campbell comes in as a first team offensive lineman.
And the funny thing about DJ Campbell is he's another
one of those guys that every time you see him
or you hear from him, he's letting you know exactly
what it is he said. He wants to be one
of the nastiest lines in football, and that's including himself
and the entire old line on the first team on defense,

(15:02):
the man, the Myth, the legend, Colin Simmons is on
that defensive line. Anthony Hill junior linebacker, and Michael taff
rounds out the first team on defense for the Texas Longhorns.
On second team, you're looking at the list. You're looking
at the list and you're like, wait, we don't have
anybody on the offensive line. We don't have anybody in

(15:24):
the running back room. I thought my man CJ. Baxter
was for sure going to be on there, but they
wanted to see what he was going to be like
when he came back. And I think by the end
of the year he will definitely make some noise on
this list.

Speaker 2 (15:36):
But you put out there right now.

Speaker 1 (15:39):
Malik Muhammad is the only one on the defense and
on the second team representing the University of Texas on
offense and defense. Jack Boldmeister the new punter. He is
representing on the second team. On the third team, the
quarterback is DJ Lagway.

Speaker 2 (15:56):
I guess I should have told you.

Speaker 1 (15:57):
The second team is Lenoris quarterback for South Carolina third
team is DJ Lagway of Florida, and Trevor Gooseby represents
the Texas football team on the third team. I think
he too will be on the first team by the
end of the season. I look at Trey Moore on

(16:18):
the defensive line playing outside linebacker and getting that opportunity.

Speaker 2 (16:23):
Tray Moore is on the third team, and as you.

Speaker 1 (16:25):
Go down to the bottom, you got kickoff specialists will Stone.
Will Stone rounds out the Texas football team that has
been named All SEC preseason by the coaches. On that pole,
I wanted to go talk about something that is very
near and dear to a lot of people, and that

(16:47):
is the Tyler Rose Earl Campbell Award. That is an
award that is given to someone who obviously exemplifies what
Earl was all about. The award continues to be a
major part of the Best Player to come that either
plays in the universe but plays in the state of

(17:09):
Texas or is born in the state of Texas. Last season,
Quinn Yours and Gunner him or semi finalist on it
before Texas running back Jonathan Brooks was recognized as a
finalist before and Dante Foreman took it home in twenty sixteen,
so there has definitely been some representation.

Speaker 2 (17:32):
CJ.

Speaker 1 (17:32):
Baxter has been tabbed as the Comeback Player of the
Year Award watch list on August the seventeenth, but he's
also been placed on the preseason watch list for.

Speaker 2 (17:43):
The Doak Walker Award.

Speaker 1 (17:45):
He's from Orlando, Florida, but obviously being at the University
of Texas puts you in that conversation and he is
somebody that a lot of folks are pulling for. Trey
Wisner is obviously he led the team in Russian last year.
Had a huge step in his productivity last year after

(18:07):
being on special teams his freshman year, coming in dealing
with the injuries that everybody had in that running back room,
he stepped up and now he's considered one of the
best backs in the country and of course in the SEC,
so him being on that list is outstanding.

Speaker 2 (18:25):
DeAndre Moore third year wide receiver.

Speaker 1 (18:27):
He's played in twenty five games at the University of Texas.
He's from California, but he had a great season last year.
He had a huge season in last year and had
some big time games for the University of Texas, including
a career high nine receptions for a career high one
hundred and fourteen yards and a touchdown in the SEC

(18:49):
Championship game. So he is somebody that folks have been
talking about for quite some time.

Speaker 2 (18:56):
So for Earl Campbell and everybody else.

Speaker 1 (18:58):
That is involved in this, this is a big, big
moment for for these Texas players because you got to
have pride in everything that you do, and he is
definitely one of those guys that a lot of folks
are looking forward to this season. I know that his
relationship with one Arch Manning has been talked about. They

(19:19):
they they hit it on the deep ball a lot,
and they seem to have a good rapport. As Texas
will hit the road to take on Ohio State, this
is going to be somebody that we're gonna definitely need
to be paying attention to. Marcus When when when Texas
has been talked about coming into this season, you know,

(19:40):
we've talked about the hype, we talk about it every morning,
about the the subtleness to it though, but when you
start to watch and see all these names of these
top ranked players, it kind of fits done it. I Mean,
the hype is real, but you start looking at these
teams and how many of these players on this team,
the five star of the five stars, the four stars

(20:01):
up the four stars, they just seem to get better
and better and they seem to be comfortable.

Speaker 5 (20:06):
It's not just that, it's also even walk homes are
getting so much better.

Speaker 2 (20:11):
Like taff yep.

Speaker 5 (20:12):
Is pretty much he's on the team, right, Yeah, he's
he's one of the Yeah, he's a walk on. And
it's like it's not only are you getting five stars,
but you getting walk ons to move up like that.

Speaker 1 (20:25):
So and he's awarded a scholarship and now he understands
what it's about. He's a preseason All American. It's the
development part, though, yeah, I think that is.

Speaker 5 (20:35):
It's the combination of the two, is development and bringing
in just hot talent. You raise hot talent and you
develop it. Yeah, I shouldn't always be dominant.

Speaker 1 (20:44):
The thing that I like about it though, and what
I've been able to see because of the fact that
I've been following this team for so long, and I remember,
I think that is why you start to look around
and if you look up, Vince Young is everywhere right
like right now, Vince is the hottest thing out there.
And I think the reason being is because of the
fact that we are at a point we're twenty years

(21:06):
away from the national Championship. Twenty years this is the
twentieth year of Vince Young's championship run with that team,
that outstanding football team that had all these NFL players,
another team with deep talent exactly, and so we're starting
to see some of those and then you understand when

(21:27):
Vince did it, he was a red shirt junior. This
is a red shirt junior year for arch So you
start to understand that, hey, there's some similarities to a
team that is got a huge, huge opportunity to change
the narrative at the University of Texas.

Speaker 2 (21:49):
It's already working into that area. I guess they got.

Speaker 1 (21:51):
Him listed as a softball still Archibald Manning, but we'll see.
Coming up next, we'll have a conversation with Ross Dellan
as he breaks down this new schedule, and.

Speaker 2 (22:03):
I got some questions for.

Speaker 1 (22:04):
Him about exactly who's coming off the schedule moving forward.
Right here on the morning kickoff on sports Radio AM
thirteen hundred, this we are Xavier Worthy when he was
a freshman, days away from kickoff between Texas and Ohio State,
Texas is entering its second year in the SEC, but

(22:28):
there's already some changes in the SEC, as our guy
Ross Dellinger of Yahoo Sports joins us and Ross, let's
get right into it, number one, thank you for getting up.

Speaker 2 (22:39):
With us this morning.

Speaker 1 (22:40):
I know you're a busy man, so I appreciate you
taking the time, but let's get right into it. The
SEC has now announced that next season they will move
to a nine game schedule within the SEC. And I'm
sure you've been all over this story for quite some time.
What was your initial thoughts when this was number one

(23:03):
proposed but number two when it finally came to an
head and they decided to.

Speaker 7 (23:08):
Make this move, well, I was a little surprising.

Speaker 8 (23:13):
They've been kind of going back and forth on the
eight verse nine issue for a very long time. You know,
four years since Oklahoma and Texas kind of got in
the SEC. They've been seriously going back and forth.

Speaker 2 (23:28):
On the issue.

Speaker 8 (23:28):
So it's been close to four years, and some would
say even a lot more even before okahom and Texas
got in. They've been going back and forth, so there's
been a lot of disagreement. Even even heading into this
week's meetings, there was I think a decent amount of
disagreement on this and split, and I think so most

(23:49):
people kind of thought that the SEC would remain at
eight games. And for whatever reason, this week, you know, Greg,
thank you, who's been in a favor of moving in
nine games for years now, sort of got got the
athletic directors across the across the line. There are enough

(24:10):
of them across the line to give a recommendation of
nine games. And I think, you know, it was probably
two or three reasons why. You know, ESPN did come
with more money as much as five million dollars per
school annually, I think is around the number, and so
there's there's always this additional revenues sort of welcomed right now,

(24:32):
especially in the sort of financial stressful time for schools.
And then you know, there are several other reasons, right
you play each other more. I think everybody in the
three three permanent six rotational model, everybody gets to play
one another at least once every two years and twice
every four years. So at least once at home you'll

(24:55):
have everybody in the league. So that's certainly a benefit.
And then of course the maybe the big benefit and
maybe would really push this thing across the line.

Speaker 2 (25:03):
This week was a college.

Speaker 8 (25:05):
Football playoff, and you know how the SEC needed to
get sort of on the same footing with their conference
games as the Big Ten, which Big Ten has played
for years nine conference games, and so now it sort
of eases the conversations on a future of college football
playoff format.

Speaker 2 (25:26):
We're talking to.

Speaker 1 (25:26):
Ross Delanger of Yahoo Sports, and Ross, you know you
mentioned it. Under the new format, the SEC will continue
to have their single standing non divisional structure, which I
think is interesting, especially with all the teams that are
in there. I do like the fact that you have
the same three opponents that basically you can keep your

(25:47):
rivalry games because I think that's important. But there's something
that has happened since Texas A and M has never
played Georgia, Like, how how is that possible with them
being in the league obviously longer than the University of
Texas and still have never had a chance to play
the Georgia Bulldogs.

Speaker 7 (26:09):
Yeah, that's what the problem is. When your conference sort
of gets.

Speaker 8 (26:12):
Too big and you only play eight conference games, that's
that's one of the issues.

Speaker 7 (26:17):
And there's a lot of.

Speaker 8 (26:18):
Those sort of situations where one school hasn't played the
other in a long time, and I think that this
nine game schedule and.

Speaker 2 (26:30):
The way it's midled out will will sort of solve.

Speaker 7 (26:36):
Some of those issues.

Speaker 8 (26:37):
I think that's one of the big the big issues
is how often the schools play one another. So now
you'll have this rotation, so you have your three permanent
games and three permanent opponents, and then you'll have your
six rotational and so you'll be able to see everybody
once every other year, you know, And I know you

(27:00):
guys are based there in Texas, and everybody kind of
wants to know sort of, you know, who the permanent
opponents are and how the SEC will go about picking them.
And I always assume that they're already decided, and honestly,
they've probably been decided for a while back three years
ago when they chose the three six sort of model

(27:24):
for this nine games, because like I says, been going
on for a long time, you know, they they sort
of I don't know if they actually announced it, but
we wrote about it three years ago. How they'll go
about doing it, and it's they'll look at three sort
of considerations. One is geography, two is primary and secondary rivalries,

(27:48):
and then three is sort of equity, balancing, the schedules
and stuff like that. So I took a guess a
couple of years ago on what, given those three things, whatever,
whoever body's permanent opponents will be. And I'm assuming we'll
learn more about that, you know, through the fall, because

(28:08):
I think that probably some of the lists that were
first circulated two or three years ago that probably have
changed a little bit based on the balance and the
success over the last few years of teams, magistic changes
and all that stuff.

Speaker 1 (28:23):
I think that the three teams would be Texas, A,
and M obviously owe you and I believe Arkansas will
remain to be that team because of the history the
Southwest Conference, the Big Twelve, and all the different changes
that was going on with that.

Speaker 2 (28:38):
So I would look at them like that.

Speaker 1 (28:40):
But my other question for you would be Texas has
going into next year, they have Texas State, Ohio State,
and UTSA. With the nine team schedule. Now, you got
to start dropping off some of those bigger games, don't you.

Speaker 8 (28:58):
Well, you you've got to keep one power non conference
power game. So they're still required. The SEC schools are
still required to play one game against the Big twelve,
Big Ten, ACC or Notre Dame, so you've got to
keep one, so you'll you'll have two games against that

(29:19):
you could have against non power schools. So every SEC
school will play ten Power League games, and you know,
I think most to leave. That's sort of good for
college football in the grand scheme and nationally.

Speaker 7 (29:37):
So you will.

Speaker 8 (29:39):
I think a lot of schools have scheduled out two
non conference Power league games and you'll probably see them
sort of buy out of those games the second one.
But I would be surprised if several schools have eleven

(30:02):
our conference games. So I think the ideal is to
have you know, has top ten and then have two
with either SCS or the Group of Five.

Speaker 1 (30:11):
Well, this is gonna be an interesting time, to say
the leads the changes that are happening in college football
from the NIL situation to now realignment, schedules changing, just
so much going on. And make sure that you get
over and follow Ross Dellinger at Ross Dellinger on social
media and of course all his work at Yahoo's Sports.

(30:34):
Ross as always, man, I appreciate you taking the.

Speaker 7 (30:36):
Time, brother, Yeah, no problem, gonna be on.

Speaker 1 (30:39):
No problem, there is Ross Dellinger of Yahoo's Sports. Make
sure you follow them at Ross Dellinger Coming up, we're
gonna close out our number one.

Speaker 2 (30:48):
College football starts.

Speaker 1 (30:50):
Tomorrow and we're gonna talk about two Big twelve teams
that are ranked in the top twenty five to kick
it all off right here on a feel good Friday
Football Friday edition of The Morning Kickoff on Sports Radio
AM thirteen hundred The Zone. It's a feel good Football
Friday edition of the Morning Kickoff right here on Sports
Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone and our number one.

Speaker 2 (31:13):
We realize we.

Speaker 1 (31:14):
Are eight days away from Texas versus Ohio State, but
we also know that the NFL is king, and that
is why we're going up to the Metroplex to talk
to my guy, Tommy Yarsh of Dallascowboys dot Com. Tommy,
let's get right into this conversation because the soap proper,
which is Jerry Jones and Michael Parsons, will not go away.

(31:39):
But do you see some light at the end of
the tunnel and is it a freight train running us over?

Speaker 9 (31:46):
Well, Mike Mark, every time I think I know something
in this, it gets thrown in my face very quickly afterwards.
This has been one heck of a process with all
kinds of twists and turns, and at the end of
the day, I still think that my initial stance, and
I told you guys this last week and before, is
that something's going to get done.

Speaker 1 (32:08):
You know.

Speaker 9 (32:08):
I think if the way that I look at it is,
you know, I go back to the start of training
camp and the fact that Michael Parsons is there with
the team, and you know, in recruiting they say follow
the visits, right and in business they say follow the money.
And to me, Michaeh Parsons being present in Oxnard and
not holding out and missing however much it is every

(32:31):
day for not being there, I think it's fifty thousand
dollars shows me that money is important to Michael Parsons. Rightfully,
so it should be. And the fact that you know,
he didn't he stayed there and he didn't miss any
of those checks tells me that money's important to him.
And obviously, just because he's looking for a record setting
extension that would make him the highest paid nine quarterback

(32:52):
in the NFL, I don't think that he's going to
miss game checks because you're looking at, you know, a
million plus dollars a week that that you'd be missing
out on. So at the end of the day, I
think Michael Parsons plays Week one and I think that
the Cowboys get a deal done with him. Now, the
question on that is when, because Jerry Jones is very

(33:14):
comfortable letting this thing go for three years like he
did with Dak Prescott, you know, let him let him
franchise Tag twice and then go from there. They of
course got the deal done right after that second Tag
was added, but eventually, you know, if Michael Parsons wants
this deal done earlier, I think he and his agent
are going to have to get together and say, all right,
look we something's got to give here, and I think

(33:36):
they're the ones that are going to have to give.

Speaker 2 (33:38):
Are you thinking that they're.

Speaker 1 (33:39):
Going to play chicken or are they just going to
roll this thing out and just let it play.

Speaker 2 (33:43):
Out where it may.

Speaker 9 (33:46):
Uh, that's a great question, you know. I think that
what what what I think will will probably happen is
I think Micha and David will get a which to me,
to me, you know, to give them credit. I think
they are playing this exactly how they should. You know,
I think that this they're trying to get as much
leverage as they can, and Parsons doesn't really have a

(34:08):
lot of it. So all of this, you know, to me,
looks like, all right, how can we generate as much
leverage as we can in these negotiations. I think at
some point it's gonna it's going to get to a
point where they look at one another and say, look,
we we've got to get back to the negotiating table.
And you know, Jerry Jones said, Hey, we had X,
Y and Z agreed upon and so we we've got

(34:29):
to work with that and figure out a way to
get across the finish line. And you know, I think
I think Jerry Jones is open to that, and I
think that.

Speaker 7 (34:39):
At the end of the day, getting this getting this.

Speaker 9 (34:40):
Thing done is something that both sides want to do.
But Jerry Jones feels like they have a they had
a deal in place, and they have a deal in
place in terms of terms.

Speaker 7 (34:50):
And so the question is what.

Speaker 9 (34:52):
What are micro Parsons and Damamily willing to give up
to get across that finish line. Because I think Jerry
Jones is pretty dug in here because he knows he
has the gift of time on his side.

Speaker 2 (35:02):
No doubt, no doubt.

Speaker 1 (35:03):
We're talking to Tommy Yurs of Dallascowboys dot com. You
could follow him at Tommy Underscore Yars and Tommy. You
know a lot of Texas Longhorn fans were very excited
when one Jaden Blue got drafted by the Dallas Cowboys.
That would be me raising my hands saying that I
was excited about it. But we've been waiting for him

(35:24):
to get on the field. Is this the night that
we get a chance to see him play?

Speaker 9 (35:30):
I would expect that to be the case. Yes, he
was practicing all week. I was, you know, the telltale
sign last week that he wasn't gonna play was in practice.
He practicing both of the team's training camp file to
training camp practices earlier this week, and he talked to
us after the first one and said he was ready
to go, feeling good and so yeah, I expect Jedd

(35:52):
and Blue to play tonight.

Speaker 1 (35:53):
Yeah, going to the defensive side. Demarvin overshown, how close
is he to being ready to go? Are they still
kind of pacing themselves with him?

Speaker 9 (36:05):
Well, it depends me you ask. I think if you
ask to Marveo on over show and he was ready
to go, yesterday. But if you ask, if you ask
the Cowboys training staff, you know they're gonna be really
cautious with this guy because two back to back major
knee injuries and almost as many years you you've got
to really be careful with how you get this guy

(36:25):
back on the field, especially considering the way he plays,
how athletic he is, and so there are no rush
to bring him back. I don't I don't see him
coming back, you know, anytime soon. You know, I kind
of look at November December maybe is kind of your
target dates. But the good news is he's he's walking around,
and he's running around like we've seen him take off

(36:48):
running in oxen AAR and I think you kind of
can feel the collect collective gas from the training staff
as they watch him run down the field when.

Speaker 7 (36:56):
He's celebrating with his teammates.

Speaker 9 (36:58):
But nonetheless, this is a guy who really wants to
be out there on the field, and he's going to
do everything he can to be there.

Speaker 1 (37:04):
And of course they got to cut this down to
fifty three coming up by next week. My biggest question
to you, I know that as part of the business,
the casualties happen throughout this What are some of the
names that we should be looking for to either be
on the practice squad or possibly going elsewhere.

Speaker 9 (37:26):
Cool that is, that is a tough question because that's
what I'm one of those things where you know, you
make your projections and you do all these things and
you're like, oh, there's no way this guy is not
making the team, right, and then that guy doesn't make
the team, and you know, it's it's such a tricky
puzzle because it's your mind versus the coach's mind. As

(37:47):
far as the as far as the practice squad right now,
A couple of names that come to mind for me.
James Houston I think can get there. I think he's
if he doesn't make this roster, he's he's probably fifty
or fifty five on their list. It's going to be
really close because he has played incredibly well. I think,

(38:08):
so if he doesn't make it, then I could see
him coming back to the practice squad or coming up elsewhere.
Tray Shawn Holden, you know, I really think that he
has played well enough to earn a roster spot. I
just don't think he will. I think there are a
couple of guys still slotted ahead of him, So if
he clears then he can definitely, he'll probably be on
the practice squads. Collegiate wide receivers coach Junior Adams is

(38:31):
the wide receiver coach for the Cowboys, so he'll probably
want to stick around that so he Charles is another
name that comes to mind if he doesn't clear the
rotation in the offensive line room. So there's three for
you in terms of what some names that I'm keeping
an eye on.

Speaker 1 (38:46):
And the Jonathan Mingo injury is going to change some
of the thought process on who they're going to keep
as well.

Speaker 9 (38:52):
Correct, Yeah, but it opens a spot at wide receiver
because he's going to go on injured reserve and the
team can have up to two players placed on injured
reserve on the day of final cuts in order to
make a roster spot. Otherwise they have to be on
the fifty three for a day and then get moved
to IR. So he's gonna be one of those two

(39:13):
more than likely, and not officially yet, but more than likely.
And that opens a spot at wide receivers. So you know,
I look at Ryan Floy as a guy who is
probably sending Jonathan Mango a thank you basket, not of
course for his injury, but just for opening up a spot.
And then Jalen Brooks. Those are the last two wide

(39:34):
receivers that I think make this team because of their
special team's ability and what they can do to help them.
I think Jalen Brooks is the starting gunner, so that
certainly helps him out. And then Flinoy has been playing
really well and probably has the most could as should
have would have been receiving yards in NFL history because
Joe Milton's passes sometimes just are over his head or

(39:55):
off target, but he's wide open and he's getting open.

Speaker 1 (39:58):
Okay, speaking of that, Joe Milton, what in the world
as a Cowboys going to do with him? We understand
that he was going to be a project when he
came to the Cowboys, but the reality of it is,
there's so many oh wow moments until you realize that
he overthrew the guy by twenty yards.

Speaker 9 (40:17):
Well, Joe Milton's not going anywhere. You know, he was
going to make this team and he's probably going to
be your backup quarterback. That's just how things stand right
now as I see it. You know, they the draft
stock that they invested in this guy or excuse me.
The draft capital they invested in him and the fact
that he's getting so many reps is just telling me that, look,

(40:39):
this staff is going to work with him and try
to tweak his game and try to develop him as
much as they can as fast as they can. Then
you know, if that takes three years, so be it.
If that takes two years, one year, over long it takes.
I think they're committed to trying to get this guy
molded into being a cable quarterback. They love his tool

(41:00):
and you can't not love his tools. He's got an
elite arm got he's built like a linebacker, and he
can run the ball really well with his legs.

Speaker 7 (41:09):
So you know, there's plenty to work with there.

Speaker 9 (41:11):
Now it's just refining the the little things and refining
the footwork and refining the eyes and helping him go
through his progressions. And that is something that takes time,
and it's different with every quarterback in terms of how
long it takes. You know, certainly the intangibles and the
upstairs stuff, the stuff that you look for in the
in the college process. And he said, how many starts

(41:34):
does this guy have? How many completions as he has
and you know, Joe Milton did not play as much
in college compared to some of the other quarterbacks that
came out and have had a.

Speaker 7 (41:44):
Lot of success in the NFL, And now he hasn't.

Speaker 9 (41:47):
Played a lot of games in the NFL either, So
you know it's going to take time. And the question is,
you know, if God forbid, Dak Prescott goes down, is
Joe Milton the guy you turn to and is he
going to play well enough for you to feel comfortable
and saying, all right, this se can go and win
us a game.

Speaker 2 (42:05):
We'll find out next week what everything is going to
look like.

Speaker 9 (42:08):
But Trayvon Dis, Yeah, Trayvon Diggs is probably going to
start on the fifty three. I don't expect him to
go on ir you know, I don't think he's going
to miss the first four games. I think at some
point there, you know, maybe three or four, even two.
I don't think the goal is for him to be

(42:28):
back week one. They are certainly hoping and praying and
every in every aspect that Trayvon dis can play week one.
But that's another guy that you know, two major knee
injuries in a row. They don't want to rush that
back and they shouldn't rush that back for as good
of a player as Trayvon is. So I think you're
looking at, you know, somewhere between week two and week four.

(42:49):
And that's just my projection. That's not you know, anything
that I've heard anything like that. I think I saw
on his YouTube channel he said week three or four.
But nonetheless, you know, I think he's looked really good.
He's out there moving and running around on the practice field,
and so you know, the Cowboys are certainly hoping that
he comes sooner rather than later to help out.

Speaker 2 (43:10):
No doubt.

Speaker 1 (43:11):
There he is Tommy Yarsh of Dallascowboys dot com.

Speaker 7 (43:15):
You can hear them on.

Speaker 2 (43:16):
Fridays at eight am.

Speaker 9 (43:18):
Thanks Tommy, Thank you guys, appreciate you all.

Speaker 2 (43:22):
Right. Coming up next, we have and Parker Coleman of.

Speaker 1 (43:27):
Caveew talking all things Texas Longhorns, and of course we're
gonna talk.

Speaker 2 (43:31):
Some high school football right here on.

Speaker 1 (43:34):
The morning kickoff on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.
We just left the Metroplex by talking to Tommy Yarsh
of Dallascowboys dot com and we're coming back to the
sin Text to talk to our girl and Parker Coleman
of caveew as we get ready for eight days away.

(43:55):
The Countdown is on eight days away from Texas and
Ohio State. You guys over at KU have been crushing.

Speaker 2 (44:03):
It day in day out.

Speaker 1 (44:05):
How excited is everybody about this big matchup?

Speaker 10 (44:10):
Mike super excited. I feel like that just goes without saying.

Speaker 11 (44:13):
And I can't let you compliment the kV Sports team
without giving you a shout out for your coach Owen
pression earlier.

Speaker 2 (44:20):
This week that was pretty good.

Speaker 10 (44:22):
If we want to break that out again today, I.

Speaker 1 (44:25):
Well, coach O was excited to talk about Arch Manning,
as is everyone else. And you've been at the press conferences.
You got a chance to talk to Arch, got a
chance to talk to Michael taff Anthony Hill, Colin Simmons.
We've got a chance to talk to everybody. But the
message has been the same. This team is not worried
about number one. They're worried about number one game and

(44:47):
that is Ohio State.

Speaker 10 (44:49):
Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 11 (44:50):
And I think you know this time of year is
when everybody gets those nods for whatever awards or you know,
preseason AP Preseason All Americans and everything.

Speaker 10 (45:00):
My favorite things that Michael tast.

Speaker 11 (45:02):
Said when he was asked about being a preseason All American.

Speaker 10 (45:06):
Well, first, he.

Speaker 11 (45:07):
Reminded the media that Arch was not a preseason All American.
That task was, which is just amazing. It also just
shows like the bond between this team. If they're able
to josh each other like that over awards, you know
what they would call somewhat meaningless awards, I think that
it just speaks to their bond.

Speaker 10 (45:26):
But you know, he just kind of reitered.

Speaker 11 (45:28):
He was like, I almost didn't want to be a
preseason All American because it really doesn't matter. What you
want to be is an All American at the end
of the season, and more than that, you want to
be a national championship. It feels like through every question
or every narrative, everything that we ask, it always loops
back to their main goal and that just, you know,

(45:51):
says a lot about their focus and determination heading into
the season.

Speaker 1 (45:55):
Yeah, it's interesting too, because you know, we've talked about
this a while ago, talking about the fact that this
is the first time in the University of Texas history
that they go into the season as a preseason number one.
We were at a event the other day and Drew Martin,
who's in charge of external affairs.

Speaker 2 (46:13):
He didn't realize that either.

Speaker 1 (46:16):
And if you know the history of Texas football, you've
seen them be an excellent football team. But coach Shark
said it himself, he would much rather, like you said,
at the end of the year, be the number one
team as opprosed to the preseason.

Speaker 10 (46:31):
It's exactly what they said.

Speaker 11 (46:32):
And it's been so interesting to watch them, you know,
fall campus such a grind like day in and day out,
how do you balance taking it day by day which
they always say, but like your greater goal of making
it to a national championship, which oh yeah, by the way,
is all the way in the middle of Jene like,
it's never been a harder, harder road to get there

(46:55):
when it just comes to longevy of this season and
again like this team is just their messaging, everything about
it is really really consistent, and Sark always kind of
talks them about kind of looking at it as like
a mountaintop, like, hey, like we're one day at a time,
one one foot in front of the front, the other.

Speaker 10 (47:15):
Don't look up the mountain.

Speaker 11 (47:16):
Then you're gonna get discouraged because it's that mountaintop is
really really far away, but at the same time, we
know where we're going.

Speaker 10 (47:23):
We don't need to look up there, but we know
what the goal is.

Speaker 2 (47:26):
No doubt.

Speaker 1 (47:26):
We're talking to Anne Parker Coleman of Caveview. You can
check her out on caview with the great team of
Corey Mo's and of course the businessman that runs the shell,
Jeff Jones, my guy. I wanted to get into this
conversation too, because as we get closer and closer to
kickoff and you're starting to really hone in. We got
press conference start next week. It is game week. What

(47:51):
besides the first game, what makes you most excited about
this season?

Speaker 11 (47:58):
Let me think, honestly, I'm going to go something personal,
but I mean this goes to the team too.

Speaker 10 (48:07):
But I mean, the reason why I love my job.

Speaker 11 (48:10):
In doing all of this is that game day atmosphere.

Speaker 10 (48:13):
And I'm sure a lot of the players would.

Speaker 11 (48:15):
Tell you, Yeah, being in dk on a Saturday, even
when it is one hundred and ten degrees, that's a
lot more fun than going against each other in practice
in August.

Speaker 10 (48:25):
So just that game day environment.

Speaker 11 (48:26):
Getting back to dk r KVU Sports is traveling to
Ohio State or when I say kV Sports, I mean
I mean.

Speaker 10 (48:35):
Jeff Jones and Corey knows your girl will.

Speaker 11 (48:37):
Beyond high school football back here in Austin.

Speaker 10 (48:40):
So we have everything covered.

Speaker 11 (48:42):
And you know, this is a team that's not nervous
whatsoever about going into places like Alabama or even the
Big House last year.

Speaker 10 (48:52):
I think they even like that.

Speaker 11 (48:54):
So just to go back to that game day environment,
like they're excited to get to DKR. But man, it's
one way to open the season on the road in
the shoe against national championship team, Like, that's going to
be an unparalleled environment and it's me out of bet
and I'm sure it is for them too.

Speaker 1 (49:12):
Yeah, that's the team that knocked them out of that
opportunity to win a national championship too.

Speaker 2 (49:17):
They were so close.

Speaker 1 (49:18):
So there's a lot that goes into this first game,
but it does not make or break the season. Speaking
of the season, next season nine game SEC schedule was
announced yesterday.

Speaker 2 (49:29):
What were your initial reaction to that.

Speaker 10 (49:33):
I love it.

Speaker 11 (49:33):
I feel like their format that they do is pretty
similar now to how the ACC transitions maybe about two
years ago.

Speaker 10 (49:41):
But I think overall it's amazing.

Speaker 11 (49:44):
You're going to have three annual opponents, so your rivalries
are protected.

Speaker 10 (49:48):
That's number one to me.

Speaker 11 (49:49):
You've got to maintain their tradition of college football and
those rivalries that make it so special.

Speaker 10 (49:55):
And then you're going to rotate throughout the conference.

Speaker 11 (49:57):
And I mean, let's just be honest, the SEC like
when you rotate opponents, there are no cupcakes, right, and
then you see there's no more there's not even no more.
Oh well, Vanderbilt, if you go there, it's gonna be
easy to play. That doesn't exist anymore. Every opponent in
this conference is going to be tough. And so I
like the fact that you're rotating six opponents. And then

(50:18):
I think what's the most interesting part is you have
to schedule one high quality non conference opponent within the
Power four each year. So it's not as if, hey,
you got nine really really tough games. But outside of that,
those remaining three do whatever you want. It can be easy. No,
you need to go to Michigan all week two or

(50:38):
open the season against Ohio State, the defending national champs.
I think that that part of the entire schedule changes
is probably the most interesting.

Speaker 1 (50:48):
Yeah, definitely has made the party in the stakes a
little bit steeper, but we're all here for that. Your
top notch universities, you need to be playing those games.

Speaker 12 (50:59):
And I think on that note as well, we're looking
at just now with a twelve team playoff format, it
makes more sense to schedule harder opponents because just because
you lose to one team doesn't mean that you're knocked
off in the same way that you know, maybe a
few years.

Speaker 11 (51:15):
Ago you would have been. I think, you know, we've
we've seen them reward harder. I was going to say
we've seen them a reward harder schedules, but then we
did see Indiana there, so maybe.

Speaker 2 (51:27):
Hold up, hold up, hey, before we let you go.
High school football is just around the corner. I know that.

Speaker 1 (51:34):
Marcus and I were talking about it just a little
while ago. How excited everybody is about high school football.

Speaker 2 (51:40):
What where you been this last week?

Speaker 11 (51:43):
Yes, so last week I went to Vandergriff defending state champs.
You want to talk about a well oiled machine in Austin, Texas,
drews Anders.

Speaker 10 (51:54):
I can never give him enough credit, their head coach.

Speaker 11 (51:57):
He just does a phenomenal job and they return a
lot of talent. Their state championship quarterback well he's back,
and you know, you look at him, whether he's on
the field or when I'm talking to him on the sidelines,
I know he's you know, maybe seventeen eighteen years old.
I think he's like twenty five in my looks. I've

(52:17):
never met a more mature kid. And that goes on
the field too. Something that coach Andrews told me that
was really interesting is that they look to mouse to
to eat the quarterback as like another coach too. They
said that he's really really into analytics everything that goes
into play on the field, and so when he has

(52:38):
something to say, they listen to him.

Speaker 10 (52:40):
And it's just a.

Speaker 11 (52:41):
Great recipe for a team who you know, probably wants
to go back to where they were last year.

Speaker 10 (52:46):
And win it all again.

Speaker 1 (52:47):
Exactly exactly. I can't wait. Football season is here. We
got football tomorrow as k State and I always stay
kick off the football season. But as always, make sure
you follow everybody over at but of course, and Parker
Coleman bringing it to you, thanks for getting up with me,
AP appreciate it.

Speaker 10 (53:06):
Thanks Meg, have fun on the solo up today.

Speaker 1 (53:08):
You know what I do, girl, You know what I'm Oh,
there she goes and Parker Coleman.

Speaker 2 (53:14):
When we come back.

Speaker 1 (53:15):
We're gonna continue the conversations. As we said, football is
still here, and we're gonna hear from a couple of
Texas Longhorns as well. Right here on the morning Kickoff
on Sports Radio and thirteen hundred Design Great stuff by
Ann Parker Coleman as always bringing.

Speaker 2 (53:33):
It to you.

Speaker 1 (53:34):
Make sure you get over to caview and watch them
as they do an unbelievable job. Coming up in the
next segment, we'll close out the show and send you
to damn pract pack Patrick, but we've got some sound
from Themico Ryans and Eric Dickerson that we've all thought
was a conspiracy, but he tries to let you know

(53:58):
that what you thought.

Speaker 2 (53:59):
You knew, you do know right now.

Speaker 1 (54:02):
Normally you would hear the world's strongest man bringing you
his world's strongest take, but he has been delayed overseas
and so he couldn't get on today, but he'll definitely
be on next week.

Speaker 2 (54:14):
As we enter.

Speaker 1 (54:15):
Game week, we're also going to change some of the
formats of the show, so make sure you're tuned in
as we get ready for the Texas football season, the
NFL football season, and so much more. But one of
the things that I wanted to point out in this
segment is how lucky we are to have a guy

(54:36):
like Michael Taff. Now, I've been around Michael Taff in
so many different settings, and the one thing that I
can tell you about him is he's a genuine dude.
He's a genuine guy that truly cares about the people.

Speaker 2 (54:51):
Is not an act.

Speaker 1 (54:52):
His heart is definitely in the right place at all times,
except for when he wants to knock you head off,
and then that is where he becomes a totally different person.

Speaker 2 (55:04):
And I respect that.

Speaker 1 (55:05):
But I wanted to get into this part of it
because Michael Taff was one of those gentlemen that was
part of a team that was five and seven and
was a walk on at that time, so he was
going through all types of different things. But now being
on teams that has transitioned from a five and seventeen

(55:29):
to now being a contender, he has a new lease
on life.

Speaker 13 (55:34):
Yeah, coaching, I think one leadership. Watching the guys that
were here first, I think Roushawn Johnson, Sam Aluerbijon j Ford,
de Marvion Bartsrue, a bunch of those guys leadership, watching

(55:54):
those guys and trying to emulate what they did, but
also coaching, like it's blessing to have the same coaches
for five years straight on any type of college team.

Speaker 2 (56:04):
That doesn't happen a lot.

Speaker 13 (56:05):
So to have coach p k as your defensive coordinator
all five years, that helps the defense a lot. Te
Coach Sark and coach Mellwey as your and coach flund
as your offensive guys. Coach Banks the whole five years,
that helps a lot.

Speaker 1 (56:20):
And that's the thing about it. Five years. Coach Sark
talked about this the other day. He was talking about
Michael Taff and the fact that he showed a movie
that he hadn't shown the team since his first year here,
and then Michael Taff was like, I've seen this with you.

Speaker 2 (56:35):
I was here, but I was part of that.

Speaker 1 (56:37):
So it's it's interesting to see how he's grown up
in the mature level in which he's he's kind of
taken some of that leadership from different people to make
it his own. But one of the things too, is
his relationship with jah Day Barron and Andrew mccooba, two
guys that are now playing in the NFL.

Speaker 2 (56:59):
Where he to be.

Speaker 1 (57:00):
But he was asked, does he still talk to those
guys and what has he learned from them?

Speaker 13 (57:04):
Yeah, I FaceTime both of them stay two on Sunday,
so two days ago and one Andrew is pretty happy
because he got to pick six, but two Johnay was like,
he's bowling. I think he has like six or seven
tackles in two games. So if you're playing corner, I
think he's got some nickel reps too, that's pretty good.

(57:26):
So he's flashing. But yeah, they talk about the Paulkans
schedule and how tough it is.

Speaker 2 (57:32):
And he's learning.

Speaker 1 (57:33):
I mean, but you know, he's given us that and
the fun part of the conversation and what's going on.
But he's also in a place to where he's understanding, Hey, guys,
tell me, tell me what I need to do in
this situation. The leadership skills, the things that he's learning from.
Those guys are who are are vegetable, not veterans, but
they're in the NFL and they're learning from veterans, So

(57:55):
the messaging is a little bit different.

Speaker 2 (57:58):
But the other part of it is too.

Speaker 1 (58:00):
We've talked a lot about the wide receiver Corps and
who's standing out. But a lot of people have been
spending time talking about one Parker living Stone and what
he has been able to bring to this Texas football team.
And this is an example of coming to the university,
putting into work, putting your head down, changing your body,

(58:22):
doing the things that you needed to do to get
to this point. And now is the hype real when
it comes to this young man.

Speaker 2 (58:31):
Yeah, I mean, like.

Speaker 13 (58:34):
Jordan Shipley was a pretty good Footbowl player here, so
to compare him to Jordan Shipbley, I don't know there
was a stereotype there. I don't know if they play
the same, but it was like Jordan Jackson Shipley, Nobody, nobody, Oh,
Parker Literson.

Speaker 2 (58:49):
They look alike.

Speaker 13 (58:50):
I don't know if that's really true, but the hype
is real about him. So I don't know how much
he plays like Jordan, but he does. He's a vertical threat,
great routes and sure catcher.

Speaker 1 (59:02):
And the part about it is the great routes. The
Shipleys ran great routes. But I do like the fact
that he threw that out there, like, uh, are we
stereotype of these dudes because the way that they look
and things like that.

Speaker 2 (59:18):
So you're saying he might be a Patriot.

Speaker 1 (59:20):
At some point, he might be a New England Patriot,
but no, you start to understand why for him to
come back to the university at the time that he did.

Speaker 2 (59:34):
And I talked about this the other day.

Speaker 1 (59:36):
I talked about the fact that this is a young
man that had an opportunity to go to the next level,
but he decided that he wanted to come back to
this university. We also saw him on the sideline after
the game against Ohio State overcome with emotion, and the
reason being is because of Jahday barn because of Andrew mccoop,

(01:00:00):
because of Quinn yours and all the people that he
played with that are now on that next level. They
thought that that was going to be the year for them.
That season they thought was going to be the culmination
of all the five and seven to get to that

(01:00:22):
point of last year's team. And you start to truly
understand how these guys understood the assignment, the time that
they put in, the workouts that they went through, and
for them.

Speaker 2 (01:00:36):
To first year in the SEC win the.

Speaker 1 (01:00:38):
SEC regular season. I know they lost in the championship game,
but to get into the playoffs only team that was
in the playoffs in twenty twenty three, to get back
into the expanded format of the playoffs in twenty twenty.

Speaker 2 (01:00:54):
Four Final four.

Speaker 1 (01:00:56):
To be in the final four in back to back
season and come up short in that moment was something
that I too. If I was him, I would have
been overcome with the motion. Because if you've never had
an opportunity to play for a championship and number one

(01:01:16):
win it or number two lose it, you'll never understand
that feeling. Because in sports, when you're with your buddies
every single day, you spend more time in locker rooms,
on the road, in meetings, in dinner with your teammates

(01:01:37):
than you do with your family. Sometimes, especially in these sports,
this is something that it hurts when you don't finish
what the goals are. So coming into the season as
the number one ranked team, that's cool. Everybody understands what
it's about, all right, But the target has always been

(01:01:58):
on the Texas Longhorns back even when they were down,
people wanted to keep them down, and now that they're up,
people are really trying.

Speaker 2 (01:02:07):
To get after the Longhorn.

Speaker 1 (01:02:10):
So I'm glad to have Michael Taff back on this
football field. I know the leadership in that locker room
is excited and to have him there. But most importantly,
I know that coach Sark knows that if something needs
to get done, Michael Taff will lead that locker room
in the right direction. He and Anthony Hill Junior coming
up next. We'll close up the show. Send you to

(01:02:31):
Dan Patrick. Eric Dickerson spoke and he spoke loudly on
a subject that we have been talking about for quite
some time right here on the morning kickoff on Sports
Radio Am thirteen hundred design. If you missed any parts
of the show, all you got to do is get
over to the podcast page wherever you get your podcasts,
but most importantly do it on the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (01:02:55):
Preset us as number one.

Speaker 1 (01:02:58):
Number two is our podcast page as your preset. That
way you can get caught up on everything that has happened.
We are about to get into game week and we
can not wait. So you missed the interview today with
Ross Dellinger of Yahoo Sports as he talked about the
SEC and the nine games schedule and who would be

(01:03:21):
in his eyes, some of the permanent rivals that you
will have. We also talked to Tommy Yarish about the
drama which is the Dallas Cowboys, Micah Parsons Final Cuts,
and of course Jerry Jones. And we talked to Ann
Parker Coleman of Caveview as she broke down her thoughts
about the Texas football season and some high school action

(01:03:44):
which they will be covering over there at Caveview. I
want to get into this conversation. Yes, we have college
football starting tomorrow, but we also have final preseason games
for the Cowboys and the Texans. And I want you
to hear Demark Demik O'Ryan's first as he talks about
his offensive line. And this is something that we have

(01:04:05):
all been talking about because of the fact of what's
been going on with CJ.

Speaker 2 (01:04:09):
Stroud.

Speaker 1 (01:04:09):
He had to put on some weight so he can
take some of those hits that he was having. But
now they have tried to re up on that offensive line,
and Demiica likes what he's seen.

Speaker 14 (01:04:21):
For our offensive line. What I saw, I saw a
guy still playing physical upfront. We were able to break
some runs there, Chubb, Woody, Jawar, all the backs were
able to break a few runs.

Speaker 2 (01:04:31):
It starts up front.

Speaker 14 (01:04:32):
Those guys played physical guy A hat on a half finished.
The tackles did a good job on the edge really
of handling the twists and the games. Proud of our
guys with that and the communication of picking up blitzes.
So anytime you do a joint practice, you'll see different
type of blitz It's different type of pressures and adjustments.

Speaker 2 (01:04:49):
So I think when you're able to handle.

Speaker 14 (01:04:51):
That really well and allow your rules to work for you,
and you see how sound the protections are, you see
how sound we are when we play with the great technique,
it works. So we just have to continue to lean
into what we're doing, lean into what's being coach and
do it the right way every single time, and we'll
be really good upfront.

Speaker 2 (01:05:10):
And that's the thing too.

Speaker 1 (01:05:11):
You think about that they're doing joint practices against the
Detroit Lions, and for them to be able to do
the things that Demko is hoping they would be able
to do and get that done, that's huge for that
new offensive line. Another story that is coming out in
the NFL. Obviously, I told you at the start of
the show, we talked about Jackson Dart and how good

(01:05:33):
he's been playing. But Russell Wilson is the starting quarterback,
rightfully so. But Dart is making his way. But the
story is in Cleveland. Cleveland has to make some decisions.
There's some guys that got to play tonight. The quarterback
battle's going to continue to be going on. In the
big story, it was Shador Sanders as he came out

(01:05:54):
of the draft. We thought there was some conspiracy against it.
We thought there were some things that didn't look right,
didn't smell right. But Eric Dickerson, who is not afraid
to say what's on his mind, decided to tell Dan
Patrick yesterday that hey, I know for a fact that
was some shady stuff going on.

Speaker 15 (01:06:14):
And I'll tell you as much here what I and
what I heard from someone that's in the NFL that
the NFL put it, told other don't draft him, do
not draft him. We're gonna make him, We're gonna make
an example out of him. And this came from a
very good source, a very good source. And he said
that I won't say who. Somebody called the Cleveland Browns
and said, don't do that. Really, yep, draft him, don't

(01:06:37):
don't don't do that because they weren't drafted either.

Speaker 2 (01:06:38):
They were drafted.

Speaker 1 (01:06:40):
Think about that, Think about the conspiracy and some of
these situations that we have seen throughout sports. You've heard
the conversations, you've heard the NFL being tasked with these
lawsuits because of these particular types of things, the conspiracy

(01:07:01):
theories in the NFL about ownership groups and what they
are saying you can and cannot do. We already heard
that they were mad about the Deshaun Watson situation, which
is why a lot of people are looking at ownerships
a little bit differently. We will never sign a contract
like that. Again, do not do that. Do not draft

(01:07:24):
Shador Sanders. Now, you can believe it or not, whatever
it may be. But the fact that Eric Dickerson, who
he'll tell you, I have nothing to hold against anybody,
but I'm gonna tell you this, for him to say
that we all knew that Shador was not a fifth
round pick. We all knew Shador was a god that

(01:07:44):
we thought was gonna be one of the first ones
off the board. Now the big question is what is
going to happen. They named Joe Flacco the starting quarterback.
Are they going to get rid of Kenny Pickett? They
drafted Dylan Gabriel in the third round. He's looked fine
Shador Sanders. In the fifth they brought in Tyler Hutley

(01:08:07):
as an undrafted I mean an unfollowed quarterback, and.

Speaker 2 (01:08:11):
You also have DeShawn Watson.

Speaker 1 (01:08:15):
They have some decisions that need to be made, and
we will know a little bit more tonight and tomorrow
because they have to decide what's going to happen. So
it is going to be an interesting format for a
lot of people as they have to get down to
fifty three?

Speaker 2 (01:08:35):
Will they keep four quarterbacks?

Speaker 1 (01:08:37):
If somebody goes on to the practice squad, I guarantee
you another one is going to get picked up.

Speaker 2 (01:08:42):
So it will be an inter resting time.

Speaker 1 (01:08:46):
But don't forget. We got college football tomorrow starting at
eleven am. And oh yeah, I will be out at
the HTB on Lake Austin Boulevard.

Speaker 2 (01:08:56):
Come and hang out with myself, Brian A.

Speaker 1 (01:08:59):
Rack Pope, but Raq will be out there signing autographs.
I'll be out there commentating and talking all things Texas Longhorns.

Speaker 2 (01:09:08):
I'll be there from one to three. Rack Pole will be.

Speaker 1 (01:09:11):
Signing autographs starting at one o'clock. Come and hang out
with his own crew, myself and of course Brian O.
Rackpoe Longhorn Great on Lake Austin at the HTV on
Lake Austin. For my guy Marcus, for my man Mark
Henry who got travel issues, I am your boy.

Speaker 2 (01:09:31):
Harvall Harts. Have a great weekend, and just remember this.

Speaker 1 (01:09:35):
Don't believe everything you see, because even salt looks like shitty.

Speaker 5 (01:09:39):
Peace,
