Doing great, man.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
I wish that we didn't have like about a second delay,
but outside of that, everything is great.
Speaker 4 (02:29):
It doesn't seem like it's that long, man, It don't
seem like it's that long.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
Well it's I know that. My wife asked me, she said,
do you think hards is missing you? And I said, yeah,
he's missing me. He won't say it, but he is.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
I did miss you yesterday though, because we had a
big event at the University of Texas day before. We
were cooking on the field. We were basting as we
were walking around on the football field. Kudos to those
players that are out there because with that equipment on
and everything else, I know that they was hot, hot
because we was hot and we was just walking hard.
(03:09):
The little pillets that are on the field were melted
into my shoes. Yeah, my bracelet was about to be
immersed into that field. I had to pick it up
and get that out of the way. But yeah, it
was a little warm. But yesterday we had a great event.
Shout out to Christine. She does an unbelievable job of
(03:30):
setting us up. You were missed yesterday, But a lot
of folks are tuning in to listen to the show
today because I made sure of it. So all right, yeah, yeah,
I'll take it, all right. So let's get into it.
You know, there was some conversation about Texas football team,
and obviously we're, like I said, we're nine days away
from the start of the football season, and it was
(03:50):
the last few times that we're gonna get before the
season start to talk to a couple of the players,
and one of those players is preseason All American Anthony Hill.
Speaker 4 (04:00):
Anthony Hill Junior has a new look.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
He shaved his head and now he's focused on the
task at hand.
Speaker 4 (04:08):
But he was asked about the hype on being the
number one team in the land.
Speaker 5 (04:13):
Yeah, I mean that didn't mean anything, being ranked before
the season even starts doing anything. I don't even know
how they get those opinions, but I feel like we
do a good job of keeping the main thing, the
main thing, trying to get better every day and go
win some games.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
Well, his voice changed, and that was arch arch Manning
talking about winning.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
I was about to say, wow, I polished Anthony Hill
got overnight.
Speaker 3 (04:38):
He was locked in and ready to go.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
And so when Anthony Hill said that, But the fact
of the matter is Anthony Hill says, it's just a number.
Speaker 4 (04:46):
We don't really care about that.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
It's kind of echoing the sentiment of what Arch I
mean what Sark was talking about as well. When those
things start to happen, it's interesting to the point of this,
you have, Texas has been around for a long time.
It is the first time that Texas has ever been
ranked number one in the preseason. Paul Drew Martin told
(05:13):
he said that yesterday during our meeting. He said, I
did not realize that this was the first time in
the history of the University of Texas being ranked number one.
Speaker 6 (05:23):
And if you want to hear Hill's comment here there
are right here.
Speaker 7 (05:28):
I mean, of course we see it because we're all
on the same in and as y'all, but we kind
of like ignore it and kind of just focusing on
us and just try to focus on what we need
to do every day to be the best team we
can be.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
There, he is that his voice sounds a little bit
different than the mark.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
Yeah, I was like, man, sounds like Anthony Hill got
a little bit of that.
Speaker 3 (05:50):
Are you the man that rested at the hair club?
Speaker 4 (05:59):
I like that. I like that right there. That was good.
Speaker 1 (06:01):
I like that Mark, I know exactly Beverly Hills cop, Yes, sir,
But he was also talking about a bunch of the
players on the team obviously what's going on with them
and the defense and you and I as we were
walking off the field, you were still in the middle
of the field, but Cole Bervard was walking by. Now
(06:21):
we've heard how big this human is, and we understand that,
but when you have walked past someone like when you
were at your height of being Mark Henry the world's
strongest man, chocolate, thunder and all that stuff that you
were sexual chocolate, but you start to think about it
and you saw where you were. This young man is
(06:42):
probably one of the largest human beings that I have seen,
and I've been around you for a long time. He
is one of the new defensive tackles. But he was
asked Hill was asked about who's been standing out at
the new DTS.
Speaker 7 (06:58):
I'll say all of them have had doing a good
job in their own way. Some of some of them
specialize in different stuff, but collectively, if they've been doing
a good job of kind of working together and making
a making a good statement.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
Bravard is somebody whose name keeps popping up in every
conversation if you look at any of the message boards
and what he's been able to do, he has been
very impressive.
Speaker 4 (07:18):
So far during Camp Rush.
Speaker 2 (07:21):
They said he three thirty, but he's got to be
bigger than three thirty. Yes, I think so too. I
mean I've seen three thirty befolks.
Speaker 3 (07:32):
That dude right there.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
Man, he's one sandwich away from three fifty, I guarantee you.
And it's a it's a solid three fifty, yes, sir,
it is a solid three fifty. And he looks like
he wants to inflict pain on every single person that
he comes in contact with. Well, I want to see, uh,
(07:55):
if these guys now can get internal pressure, because if
they can get internal pressure and.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
Anthony Hill and.
Speaker 2 (08:05):
Colin Simmons are being double teamed and chipped and the
interior alignement could actually have a really good year. Right,
this could be the time where guys could have like
three or four sacks apiece, or you have one gap
with like as an interior alignment that you know, gets
five or six sacks and they start looking good in
(08:26):
the draft.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
Right, And that's what this is all about.
Speaker 1 (08:29):
You know, obviously, you come to the University of Texas,
your job and your goal is to win national championship,
be SEC champions and everything that goes along with that.
But your ultimate goal is to play at the next level.
We've seen it happen. We've seen the development of a
lot of these guys already and what they've been able
to achieve. One name we talked about Colebravard. One name
(08:52):
that keeps popping up and jumping out of everyone's mouth
is ty Anthony Smith. What he has been able to
do and get better and better every single week has
been very impressive.
Speaker 4 (09:05):
And Anthony Hill was asked about him as well.
Speaker 7 (09:08):
Oh, I mean he brings the energy every day. I
mean he's been working on the strike. He being striking
really well, playing physical and fast. I mean that's all
you can ask. Yeah, I mean since since he is
a little i'll say little slender, he has to be
a little bit more physical than everybody else. I mean
he has to bring a little bit more on every
pop and he's been doing a good job doing that
and working at it fast forward.
Speaker 4 (09:27):
Ty Anthony Smith name to keep in mind, my friend.
Speaker 2 (09:32):
You know, you can you can call somebody slight, but
I think about anybody that's two hundred pounds, I don't
know if I would consider them slight. They're just not
as big as the mutants, you know, and that's the
thing about the University of Texas.
Speaker 3 (09:49):
I remember when Jacob went to a camp over there.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
And they said, hey, there's a lot of really good
players here that won't play here.
Speaker 3 (09:58):
We're looking for large womans, right, and.
Speaker 2 (10:03):
There's some guys out there that six six three thirty
you know, like that's six seven three point fifty three
kind of stroke. Like, I mean, there's some big people
over there. So for him to him to say a
two hundred and seventeen pound guys like that's not that's
(10:26):
not doing much for me.
Speaker 4 (10:29):
Well, I mean compared to him.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
That's why he's coming. Was like, you know, he's like, yeah,
he what is he like two thirty or two forty.
Speaker 1 (10:37):
Yeah, he's he's he's putting up some some movements over
there on them weights, and he's one of those strong
Six three two thirty eight is what he is listed at.
And I got a chance to stand right next to
him at a at an interview, and he is all
of six three two forty you know what I'm saying.
(10:58):
So he is definitely he He and Colin Simmons are
built a little bit different. So if they want to
call him slight, I'm a little cop tlling.
Speaker 3 (11:06):
Stop calling people slight, just a mute.
Speaker 4 (11:08):
He's slight.
Speaker 1 (11:10):
We're just getting started right here on the Morning Kickoff,
a throwback Thursday edition of the Morning Kickoff on Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (11:18):
But next, I want.
Speaker 1 (11:19):
To talk NFL quarterbacks have been named starters and I
want to get Mark.
Speaker 3 (11:25):
Henry's thoughts on this.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
Eric Henry of Horns two four seven will be joining
us to talk more Texas long Horns and Greg McElroy
loves the Horns and he loves Arch Manning.
Speaker 3 (11:36):
We'll talk about it all right here.
Speaker 1 (11:38):
And our number one of the Morning Kickoff on Sports
Radio and thirteen hundred The Zone. Welcome back to the
Morning Kickoff right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred
The Zone.
Speaker 3 (11:50):
Mike Harball, Hard's world.
Speaker 4 (11:51):
Strongest Man, the Mark Henry as always just doing our
thing as Mark gonna be. You got him on the spring.
Speaker 3 (12:00):
No, I'm not on there you go. I'm like, can we.
Speaker 4 (12:05):
Find my guy please? Mark.
Speaker 1 (12:07):
I wanted to get into the NFL because obviously this
is going to be the last preseason games for a
lot of people. It may be the last preseason games
that you have an opportunity to impress the coaching staff
enough to be able to be number fifty two to
fifty three on the roster, maybe even find another starting spot.
(12:29):
But the one thing that I wanted to ask you is,
throughout football, there's been some announcements that have been made
about those that are going to be the starting quarterback.
We can go to Cleveland and the fact of the
matter is, right now, the starting quarterback is going to
be Joe Floco. We thought that was going to be
(12:52):
the answer. We thought Floco was going to be the guy.
But the one thing that I was trying to figure out,
can they carry five quarterbacks? Four to be exact, because
Deshaun Watson is still dealing with the injury right so
he's still trying to work his way back into it.
But the story is, are they going to be able
(13:14):
to keep that many quarterbacks on the squad?
Speaker 3 (13:18):
I don't think so hard.
Speaker 2 (13:20):
I think that right now Kenny Pickett might be a
guy that's gonna get traded.
Speaker 8 (13:27):
You.
Speaker 2 (13:27):
If it was up to me, I would keep Gabriel
and Sanders say.
Speaker 4 (13:32):
I thought he was gonna say, if it was up
to me, I trade everybody.
Speaker 1 (13:34):
I'll just get everybody, you know how I really feel it?
Speaker 3 (13:40):
My soul, Yeah, I do.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
I do, And but you know, like the thing about
it is, I was I would start, uh the same way.
You know, you got a veteran that you have a
bunch of guys on your team that they're ready to
win right now.
Speaker 3 (13:59):
They don't want to develop up someone correct.
Speaker 2 (14:01):
And you know when you have older players and you're
in a situation where you're trying to like get it
right now, that's that's the good move to make.
Speaker 1 (14:13):
Yeah, but see here here, here's the only problem that
I have with that, Mark, is if you are trying
to build for your future, right if you are trying
to understand that your squad has a chance. I understand
what you're saying about the veterans. They don't want to lose,
but you've been losing anyway. It's kind of like what
(14:34):
I talked about yesterday.
Speaker 3 (14:36):
You missed it.
Speaker 1 (14:37):
I've been watching the Dallas Cowboy documentary right the Gambler
and America's Team how he got there with Jerry Jones
and all this stuff, and Mark, let me tell you,
it brings a tear to my eye every time I
watch this because there's so many good things that was happening,
and how you got to that point. But the one
thing that stood out to me is when Michael Irvin
came in.
Speaker 4 (14:56):
You already know how Michael Irvin is.
Speaker 1 (14:58):
He's the exact same way that he was when he
got there that he is today.
Speaker 3 (15:03):
He was so fired up that.
Speaker 1 (15:04):
He wanted to do different things, and the veterans kept
trying to shut him down. The veterans was like, no,
young fella, you need to do no. Y'all need to
change the way things are being thought about here. You
need to change and become more aggressive. So if you
are going to put off the inevitable, whichever is going
(15:24):
to be Dylan Gabriel or or Shador Sanders, why not
get one of those kids out there right now.
Speaker 2 (15:33):
They'll be awesome trade bait next year, Like let them
get let flak or go out there and play until
he can't And what says that he's gonna last the
entire season?
Speaker 3 (15:47):
Correct? You know, like you when you get to be.
Speaker 2 (15:52):
Forty plus years old, man, you want to hit away
from making that announcement. A console with my family and
my doctor and they've advised me that maybe I should
be holding a clipboard. He just one hit away from
that announcement. So give these first six to eight games
(16:18):
to those those guys to know what it looks like
at full speed on that sideline because it's not college.
And we saw Shander Sanders drop him in the bucket,
hit him with the change up, roll out, but still
keep his eyes down. Feel we saw Gabriel make some
(16:38):
really pre snap moves that I really like the fact
that a guy can go up there and see it
before it happens.
Speaker 3 (16:49):
That'll keep you out of a lot of trouble.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
So both of those guys are quality pieces. What need
do you have for picket? I'm just asking, I agree
with you, got your started, why you need picket. Trade
Picket to somebody that's in quarterback hell right now, and
then Flato may be a backup next year to one
(17:13):
of those guys, and you may end up having to
be able to get another second round pick for one
of those guys next year to develop your team, and
one of them will be either.
Speaker 3 (17:27):
Sanders or Gabriel.
Speaker 2 (17:32):
Gabriel will be a starter next season, So like, they
gotta figure out what they're gonna do, because you're not
gonna hold all four of those guys when you have
to have fifty three man roster by the end of
the week or the beginning of next week.
Speaker 3 (17:51):
And what do you do.
Speaker 2 (17:54):
I mean holding the extra guy. That means there's one
less lineman or one less running back. You know, like
what if a god forbid one your wife receivers get
hurt and you need you need to bring up another
wide receiver.
Speaker 3 (18:08):
You can't do it without penalties.
Speaker 1 (18:10):
The fact of the matter is, Deshaun Watson is next.
Deshaun Watson is there. He is wrecked to go, he
is trying to come back. So you still have that
in that huge contract you are. The Browns are in
a place that reminds me of when John Gruden was
(18:30):
the coach of Tampa Bay and all he kept doing
was bringing in quarterbacks. He kept every quarterback on that
sideline and didn't let them play, and it was just
crazy to me because nobody else can get a quarterback.
Speaker 4 (18:43):
It's like fantasy draft. You holding on to him and hoping.
Speaker 1 (18:46):
Somebody make a trade for him, and nobody wants to
trade because.
Speaker 3 (18:48):
You ain't playing them anyway.
Speaker 1 (18:50):
Let's go up to New York because New York also
has made a decision and they're gonna go with Russell Wilson.
Another position that we thought was going to be in place.
Speaker 4 (19:00):
We thought Russ was gonna get the start.
Speaker 1 (19:02):
But Jackson Dark has looked amazing thus far as a
quarterback in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (19:09):
Arg I would not be surprised if Russell throws a
couple of picks and he come and Dark comes in.
Speaker 3 (19:21):
Dark looked very good during this preseason.
Speaker 2 (19:25):
When he didn't throw dimes or throw a nice d ball,
he pulled it.
Speaker 3 (19:31):
Down and ran it with his legs.
Speaker 2 (19:34):
And as much as people said, wow, he kind of
looks like Josh Allen, I never saw it. I never
saw it until this preseason. He has a little bit
of that Josh Allen cam Newton in him. And I
(19:54):
dare say some Vince Young where they don't look like
they're running fast.
Speaker 3 (20:01):
Josh Allen, tell me, tell me that Josh.
Speaker 2 (20:04):
Allen looked like he was running fast.
Speaker 3 (20:07):
Josh, I'm gonna call you a liar.
Speaker 4 (20:09):
He looks like he's running in lower case.
Speaker 2 (20:12):
He's running in lower case, but he's covering five and
six yards of clip.
Speaker 4 (20:17):
Sixty five sixty six.
Speaker 1 (20:18):
I mean, yeah, your your strides are a little bit
different than everybody else's.
Speaker 3 (20:23):
And Vince Vin's been sixty five sixty six. He Vince
was fast, but he didn't look as fast as he
really was until he ran away from people.
Speaker 2 (20:34):
Right until he was painting the end zone tip to
it in the corner. At least three times during the preseason,
I saw Dark do the same thing. So I mean
Russ is he's forced right now to have the best
of his career because if he don't.
Speaker 3 (20:58):
In New York, what's gonna happen.
Speaker 4 (21:00):
They're finna light him up. They're gonna light him up.
Speaker 2 (21:03):
And finally, my wife know about the wee outside people
in New York.
Speaker 3 (21:09):
The wee outside people will come for his head.
Speaker 2 (21:13):
And then the media in New York is the worst
when it comes to athletes. In the post, they'll put
you on the front page. Why is Russell West Russell
Wilson here?
Speaker 3 (21:29):
Right?
Speaker 1 (21:29):
That'll be a capture. They will definitely figure it out.
Coming up in a little bit later, we're gonna talk
about what's going on in Indianapolis.
Speaker 4 (21:37):
Is this the end of the road for one Anthony Richardson?
Speaker 1 (21:42):
Even though he's hard to say you by it's twenty
three years old. Coming up next, we've got our guy
Eric Henry of Horns two four seven, talking all things
long Horns right here on a throwback Thursday edition, the
other morning kickoff on sports Radio and thirteen hundred the Souls.
It's Thursday, so that can only mean one thing. This
(22:04):
is the time that we get to spend with our guy,
Eric Henry of Horns two four seven and as always,
he's ready to bring the heat. You can follow him
at Eric c Henry Underscore and of course you can
find all of his work at Horns two four seven.
Speaker 4 (22:22):
Happy Thursday, My brother.
Speaker 9 (22:24):
Ah Man, Happy Thursday. Appreciate it, fellas.
Speaker 1 (22:27):
Ready to get it going man as always, so let's
get right into it. It's been a busy week on
the forty acres. We got a chance to see coach
Sark twice and of course we got a chance to
have arch manning, Michael Taff and of course Anthony Hill
get a chance to meet with the media.
Speaker 3 (22:45):
Take something from.
Speaker 1 (22:46):
Each of those guys, but they all seem collectively on
the same mindset of getting ready for next week.
Speaker 9 (22:55):
Yeah, no doubt about it. Right, I'll start with QB
one in arch Man. You know, it's been interesting, right fellas,
a lot of the conversation around the team in preseason
camp has been well. The defense is making plays the
defense ahead of the offense.
Speaker 3 (23:09):
And what I say to that is that's to be expected,
all right.
Speaker 9 (23:11):
Defense typically hits the ground running a little bit quicker
than the offense, especially when you're trying to incorporate so
many new players. But the takeaway from Arch was hearing
him say, hey, I'm starting to get my footing right.
Speaker 3 (23:23):
We're starting to make some plays against this defense.
Speaker 9 (23:25):
And here's what I'll say about this is I transition
to Anthony Hill and Michael taff Guys, I don't think
Texas is going to face a better defense this year
than the facing practice every day, all right, So just
take that for what it's worth. When you talk about
the offense starting to gain some traction from Anthony Hill,
the thing that stood out to me is just how
confident he is in this linebacker room. And the reason
(23:48):
I mentioned the room as a whole is, Yes, we've
talked a lot about Anthony Hill, of course, and from
my money, is.
Speaker 3 (23:54):
The best defensive player in college ball this year.
Speaker 9 (23:56):
But Leonglafio guys to Anthony Smith, right, not the biggest
I know, Mark Marcus talked a lot about ty Anthony Smith.
Not the biggest dude. But they don't call him Hurricane
for no reason. He brings the top when he comes
to hit you. So just the death there at that
linebacker room and real quick with Michael taff Just the
communication in the secondary. I can't emphasize this enough. We
talked about in twenty twenty three the struggles of Texas
(24:18):
and the secondary, and a lot of it came.
Speaker 3 (24:19):
Down to communication.
Speaker 9 (24:21):
I was one of my biggest questions entering this year
was how could the communication carry over from last year
because you had Andrew mccouba and Johnny Barron. Those guys
are childhood friends, right, They've been communicating since they were twelve, thirteen,
fourteen years old. Now you don't have that, So to
hear that evingly the communication has carried over despite the
fact you don't have your childhood friends.
Speaker 3 (24:40):
Those were all key takeaways for.
Speaker 2 (24:42):
Me, don't you think, Eric, that is easy for I
got Anthony Hill to be confident when he's got two
defensive tackles that are three hundred and fifty pounds. He's
got a defensive end that you have the double team,
so he doesn't have to worry about a guard coming
(25:03):
to get him. He don't have to worry about a
tight end trying to come down and crack on him.
He knows that he's gonna have to play in between
both five spots. So like with nobody to come mess
with him, all he has to do, I would be
confident too.
Speaker 3 (25:23):
Here's the thing. I'm gonna name a couple linebackers, right.
Speaker 9 (25:25):
I'm not saying Anthony Hill is this guy yet, but
just hear me out to your point, ray Lewis, Luke Keithley,
Patrick Willis, I'm talking about three NFL Hall of famers
right there, who all played middle linebackers.
Speaker 3 (25:35):
Of course, Anthony will play a little bit of both.
Speaker 9 (25:38):
But the thing they those guys all had in common
is they all had big, standout defensive tackles.
Speaker 3 (25:44):
Right.
Speaker 9 (25:45):
You can even take a look at a guy like
Lavonte David for example in Tampa, who has a Vita
Vea up front.
Speaker 3 (25:49):
Right, you keep them clean.
Speaker 9 (25:51):
So for me, yes, to your point, you have a
Cold Bravard, you have a Travis Shaw, you have a
Maroad Watson.
Speaker 3 (25:58):
That's gonna be huge for Anthony's game.
Speaker 9 (26:00):
And concerning the fact he has Colin Simmons on the edge,
that's another guy you have to con force.
Speaker 3 (26:05):
So yes, that should leave him to be very confident.
Speaker 1 (26:07):
And that's why he move side to side as freely
as he would like to. And that's the confidence part
that I truly enjoyed. We're talking to Eric Henry of
Horns two four seven. You can make sure you follow
him at Eric C Henry Underscore. He You know, we
talk a lot obviously offense defense, but I don't think
we've put enough enough special teams behind us to have
(26:31):
that conversation. Obviously, the question was asked about Mason Shipley
in his role, and then of course you think about
the punting game. Coach talked about hidden yards at hitting yards,
and that is the part that I like the most,
that he's really focusing on the special teams.
Speaker 9 (26:51):
Man Hars to Marcus spent less time on that beard
and more time on the front.
Speaker 3 (26:54):
All right. Nevertheless, I'm sorry I he cut his head.
Leave him alone. No ours to your question.
Speaker 9 (27:06):
In terms of the special teams, it's gonna be, it's
gonna be a big factor.
Speaker 3 (27:09):
I'm gonna work in reverse, right.
Speaker 9 (27:10):
I think jack Bowmeister at punter, he's a sure thing, right,
I mean, and you take a look Hars the game
that I remember in my time covering Texas. That stands
out to me, excuse me, is Alabama. When Texas went
to Alabama and Ryan Sanborn placed three punts inside the
twenty yard line, pinning Alabama deep field position. Those things matter.
(27:31):
They're not gonna matter against no disrespect to I guess
maybe I shouldn't use Vandy as an example anymore. Diego
probably might get upset at me, but you know, Sam
Houston or some of the other schools, it won't matter
in those games. But when you're facing Georgia Ohio State,
those big time games, that matters in terms of the
kicking game. With Mason Shipley, I'm gonna be really interested
to see how that plays out. He's a guy who
(27:51):
I covered when I was covering Conference USA. He was
at Texas State. Big leg But here's the key for me,
harj and Mark. Texas should not kick more than fifteen
field goals this year. They should not be a year
like twenty twenty three where Bert Auber is kicking thirty
five field goals.
Speaker 3 (28:06):
Right.
Speaker 9 (28:06):
If they are, that means that they're settling for too
many threes instead of sevens. If Mason Shipley's kicking twelve
to fifteen field goals. They're in good range. One quick
final thing on the special teams, Jeff Banks did say
that they're gonna be a bit more of a pressure
unit this year on punt return. You don't have a
Xavier Worthy, you don't have a Silas Bowlden. They're gonna
come after some kicks this year, So maybe you get
(28:27):
a couple of kicks blocked.
Speaker 3 (28:27):
Keep an eye on that.
Speaker 4 (28:28):
Love that love that Mark.
Speaker 2 (28:32):
Yeah, I don't know, man, I think that the punt
game is gonna be fine.
Speaker 3 (28:39):
That guy's leaving them in five seconds in there, like.
Speaker 2 (28:43):
You can't make a return if you got a four
to point five to five second ton kick golls and
field goals. That's where I think there is gonna be
some growing pains early.
Speaker 3 (29:00):
I think that this.
Speaker 2 (29:00):
Kid can can turn it around like in the middle
of the season. But listen, like Eric said, let's not
put him in a position to where we need him early,
like especially early.
Speaker 3 (29:14):
Yeah, Mark, super quick.
Speaker 9 (29:16):
You got to hope for Mason Shipley's sake, there aren't
growing pains because one of the things that I asked
Jeff Banks about is it's one thing to kick at
Bobcat Stadium at Texas State, and I'm not disrespecting the
folks in San Marcos. It's another thing to kick when
you're at Ohio State. It's another thing to kick when
you're at Florida. Right, So let's hope for you know,
Horns fans sake, he's getting him through the uprights early
(29:37):
because you don't need any mental hurdles to try to
overcome once you get into sec PO.
Speaker 3 (29:41):
I love that fact.
Speaker 4 (29:42):
Love that fact.
Speaker 1 (29:43):
Before we let you go, EO wanted to ask you
a little bit about the secondary. Obviously we talked about
Michael Taff and what he brings to the table. But
Grayson Lyttleton a guy whose name just keeps popping up
in just like Ty Anthony Smith, he somebody that Texas
fans should be getting to know.
Speaker 9 (30:04):
Yeah, Grace and Littleton played for my old high school coach,
one of my old high school coaches in Tampa and
Mark Canner, and he was at Gayther High School. Grace
and Littleton and product from Wiregrass Ranch. He has really
come out, honestly, come out of nowhere. But he's making
the most of that slot Nickel spot. Of course, with
Jalen Gilbot shifting outside, Grace and Littleton and of course
it's a position that you see in Texas start a
(30:24):
freshman in right. They started Jaalen Gilbert when he was
a freshman there. So he's been a guy even from
the start of camp, always in the rights, about the
right time, always making plays, always around the ball. Keep
an eye on him to see if he can open
at Ohio State as the starter at Star.
Speaker 3 (30:38):
I love it.
Speaker 4 (30:38):
I love it. Man.
Speaker 1 (30:40):
As always, you bring the heat and we definitely appreciate you.
Prayers to your family and hoping for the best.
Speaker 5 (30:46):
Man.
Speaker 4 (30:46):
We'll talk to you again next Thursday.
Speaker 3 (30:48):
Man, Game week, Baby.
Speaker 9 (30:49):
Game week will be happening, appreciated.
Speaker 3 (30:52):
Fellow, y'all be easy, all right, brother, be easy there.
Speaker 1 (30:55):
He is Eric Henry of Horns two four seven. Coming
up next.
Speaker 3 (30:59):
We're gonna close.
Speaker 1 (31:00):
Out our number one, Greg McElroy loves the Texas Longhorns
and he loves some arch right here on the morning
kickoff on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred the Zone. Great
stuff from Eric Henry of Horns two four seven, always
bringing the heat.
Speaker 4 (31:17):
Next week we'll be game week and.
Speaker 1 (31:19):
We'll be closer and closer to Texas and Ohio State.
Speaker 4 (31:24):
When the next time that we talk to Eric Henry,
I want.
Speaker 1 (31:27):
To get into the conversation real quick too. You get
a chance to win a ticket pair of tickets to
go see Pantera September the second at the Germania Insurance Amphitheater.
All you have to do is get over to that
iHeartRadio app, search for AM thirteen hundred to zone, tap
that red microphone and leave the keyword of the day,
which is lightning. Lightning is the keyword of today for
(31:50):
a chance to win a pair of tickets to go
see Pantera September the second at the Germania Insurance Amphitheater.
Be making sure that you're listening to the Voice of
the Texas Longhorns Craig Way this afternoon, as he gives
you a chance to win a pair of tickets to
another concert. But most importantly, make sure you locked in
(32:10):
to the Craigway Show, the Voice of the Texas Longhorns,
as we are your home for Texas Athletics, especially starting
next week.
Speaker 4 (32:19):
Mark. You know a lot of people have been talking about.
Speaker 1 (32:25):
A lot of people have been talking about the Texas
Longhorns coming into the season and the expectation none more
than one Greg McElroy. Greg McElroy has been a fan
of Texas. We got a chance to talk to him
at SEC Media Days. He just seems to be dialed
in and locked in when it comes to the Texas Longhorns.
(32:45):
And he stated the same thing that I did not
too long ago.
Speaker 4 (32:49):
What if Arch is really really that good?
Speaker 10 (32:54):
Yeah? I mean that doesn't mean anything.
Speaker 8 (32:58):
Yeah, what if Arch Manning lives up to the expectations?
I must first before we answer that question, establish what
the expectations are. He right now is the Heisman front
runner in the preseason. The guy has started two games
in his college career. That if he lives up to it,
(33:20):
not only will he take home the Heisman Trophy, but
in all likelihood Texas will win their first national championship
in the last twenty years. Because our expectations are for
him to go out throw for forty plus touchdowns, knowing
that his mobility, his athleticism is going to be a
huge part of what this offense could potentially attack you with.
But for Arch Manning to live up to expectations would
be almost impossible because our expectations are probably a little unfair.
(33:41):
Now I'm super excited, I'm super bullish. I would never
bet against this young man. But I also think too
our expectations have gotten to the point where, regardless of
what he does free superhuman play, he might make this year,
You're probably not even gonna be wowed because that's the
expectation that you have going into the year.
Speaker 4 (34:03):
You like that.
Speaker 3 (34:05):
I like it.
Speaker 2 (34:06):
I did his show, Harj and we talked about Arch,
and we talked about the perception of Texas, and Gregg's
assessment of Texas is he almost feels like it's unfair
of the expectation that's put on Arch and the Texas team.
(34:29):
But I don't. I don't feel like it's a problem.
Speaker 1 (34:33):
I've said this before and I'll continue to say I
think the expectations are fair, but they are a little
outlandish for somebody who hasn't had a chance to play. Now,
you can look at the team, you can look at
all of the things around him that is going.
Speaker 4 (34:49):
To make this team special.
Speaker 1 (34:51):
I was at lunch with a buddy yesterday and all
he kept talking about was, hey, man, look at the schedule,
look at how the schedule sets up, and if he
is that good, our defense is going to be.
Speaker 4 (35:03):
The major piece to it. I agree with that.
Speaker 3 (35:06):
I think the.
Speaker 4 (35:06):
Defense is going to be ridiculous. But just like every
other school, they got scholarship athletes too. They recruit well too,
so there may be a day where things just aren't
going the right way. So I have no problem with it.
Speaker 2 (35:24):
Well, I think that one of the quarterback job is
managing the running game. Is you know, being able to
keep the sticks moving, and aren't you As long as
he has in his mind, I don't have to throw
the deep ball to get this done, He's going to
be fine because with a good running game, he might
(35:46):
need to pull it down and run seven yards and slide.
He may need to hit the check down and let
his running back or tight end and the checkdown, whoever
is the checkdown, get the first down.
Speaker 3 (35:58):
That's the important thing because.
Speaker 2 (36:01):
The later the game gets with a defense like Texas,
and you keep your defense off the field, so in
the fourth quarter they're fresh.
Speaker 3 (36:12):
Texas wins.
Speaker 1 (36:14):
Well, you said something there just a minute ago about
getting down and making sure that you live to play
another down. That's exactly what he and his grandfather have
talked about. And it's a unique way of ending every
single phone call.
Speaker 10 (36:28):
Yeah, I think I just need to be smart.
Speaker 5 (36:30):
Obviously, those hits at UH my grandfather. He can you know,
he's hobbling around these days and ends every call with
get down or get out of bounds.
Speaker 10 (36:38):
So I'm definitely hearing it a lot.
Speaker 4 (36:41):
Get down or get out of bounds.
Speaker 1 (36:42):
That's how they say, that's how they to each other. Lader, Grandpa, Leader, Arch,
make sure you get down and get out of.
Speaker 3 (36:54):
I love it. Yeah, yeah, those.
Speaker 1 (36:56):
Other types of things that the experience and the conversation
in that household are a little bit different than some
of the other households that have those conversations because you
are reflecting and learning from people that have actually done
it and done it at a high level. So I
respect that, and that is something that all of us
(37:17):
has talked about because I keep going back to that
that game against Ohio State last year. People kept saying,
oh man, they should have put Arch back in the game.
Speaker 4 (37:26):
Arch will tell you no, sir, I got caught up
and I did not need to be back into that game.
Speaker 3 (37:36):
And you know how, he got popped hard. He had
ran the ball, he was one hand on the ground
trying to get extra yard and got hit in the
back of the head.
Speaker 2 (37:49):
Yeah, So I think that ARCHI needs to really focus
on what his grandfather's telling me.
Speaker 1 (37:57):
Yeah, I think he needs to focus on the next place.
Speaker 3 (38:00):
You know.
Speaker 1 (38:01):
That's why every single time you look at some of
these young quarterbacks that want to run around and do
some extra stuff, you're like, nah, bro, I need you for.
Speaker 4 (38:10):
The next play, and the play after that and the
play after that.
Speaker 1 (38:13):
Our number one is in the books. Our number two
is just around the corner. We'll hear more from Arch.
We'll also have the world's strongest take NBA WNBA is
making moves Major League Baseball, and we have final football
games of the preseason. But coming up next, we're gonna
talk NFL and final cuts right here on the Morning
(38:35):
Kickoff on Sports Radio A thirteen hundred The Zone. Welcome
back to a throwback Thursday edition of The Morning Kickoff
right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.
We are Kwame Caville days away from Texas and Ohio State.
Speaker 3 (38:54):
That's right.
Speaker 1 (38:55):
We can't wait for football season and Kwame Caville was
one of the dopest annings from the two to five fold.
Speaker 4 (39:00):
You know, I gotta put that out there.
Speaker 3 (39:01):
Oh my gosh, I'm.
Speaker 4 (39:03):
Just as special shout out there.
Speaker 1 (39:06):
I got Eric Henry for always bringing in and we
just heard from Greg mcelroyd talking about the Texas Longhorns
and what if Arch is really that good? Coming up
in the next segment, we'll hear from Arch as he
talks about earning respect and the playbook from the University
of Texas, and of course we'll have the World's Strongest taken.
(39:28):
We'll close out the show talking about the WNBA Sophie
Cunningham being out, as well as Paige Becker's in her
huge night. But Mark, I want to go back to
the NFL because, as we talked about earlier, the final
cuts are just around the corner. Guys will have opportunities
to play in the league. There will be some guys
(39:50):
that will be looking for another opportunity in the league
as well. So tonight you have the Steelers taking on
the Panthers. Here's one of the things that I was
thinking about.
Speaker 4 (40:03):
Aaron Rodgers still has not played.
Speaker 1 (40:06):
In a game in a game to be able to
work the timing with his teammates. We've heard about this
multiple times. Everywhere he goes. He wants to be critical
of certain players about these types of things, but yet
I don't see him doing the extra stuff Now, I
(40:26):
know he's forty one years old, he's been around the league.
He doesn't have to do all that. But I still
think with a new offensive coordinator, a new system, a
new team, I just feel like there should be a
little bit more of an effort for these guys to
play in these games. Now, it's the last game of
the preseason, so so be it.
Speaker 4 (40:48):
But do you not care if these guys play or not?
Speaker 2 (40:53):
Arja, this is gonna sound real add coming from me.
You're gonna trade him? That wouldn't be odd, that would
be that would be consistent. What's odd is when it
comes to older quarterbacks, guys that have been there, done that.
(41:14):
They I mean, you have thousands, tens of thousands of
yards that you've thrown. I don't think that he really
needs to be out there. And we said that about
Dak Prescott. I'm saying one series, right, I'm not.
Speaker 3 (41:32):
Saying to go out there for a half.
Speaker 2 (41:34):
I'm saying, go out there one series, hand the ball
off one time with you running back, throw something to
the tight end, and throw something at your star receiver.
If it just if it just happens that you score, great,
If you score interception, go try to make the tackle
(41:57):
and prove to your team that you're all in right.
There's no wrongdoing in one series, Hard, just one Yeah,
I'm with you.
Speaker 3 (42:11):
I have said it.
Speaker 1 (42:12):
Even if you go out there and you hand the
ball off, just make an appearance to show me that
you are lathered up and ready to go and it's
all into the game.
Speaker 3 (42:24):
I wanted to go back to you.
Speaker 1 (42:27):
On the the Indianapolis Colts, we were talking about people
being cut and the changes that are gonna be made.
They've decided that they are gonna go with Daniel Jones
over Anthony Richardson.
Speaker 3 (42:42):
Made the right decision. You feel you're gonna be mad.
Speaker 2 (42:45):
You're gonna be mad at me because you think that
Anthony Richardson is just a promising prospect.
Speaker 3 (42:52):
He's just that.
Speaker 2 (42:54):
He's a prospect. He has potential. Hard everybody out there
has potential. I told you after the last season that
that dude should be playing h back.
Speaker 3 (43:07):
I don't like.
Speaker 2 (43:08):
Yeah, he can be a slash, he can be Cordell's Stewart.
Come in and run the jet suite, come in and
run screens and run some wildcat. But I don't see
him as a full time quarterback.
Speaker 4 (43:24):
But you see Daniel Jones as one.
Speaker 2 (43:27):
I see Daniel joneses being better than him. The Giants
need to let a quarterback be a quarterback.
Speaker 4 (43:36):
The Colts, the Colts, I mean the coat. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (43:39):
Well.
Speaker 1 (43:39):
Ad Mitchell, former Texas wide receiver, talked about what Daniel
Jones has brought to the table, and the number one
thing I want you to pay attention to is work ethic,
smart football player, very demanding that quarterback. He'll kind of,
you know, tell you what you know he wants you
(44:01):
to do, and you know it's an open dialogue there.
Speaker 11 (44:04):
So his work ethic is phenomenal. So I'm just looking
forward to carrying that through the season. So let me
ask you this.
Speaker 1 (44:16):
With that being said, the decision has been made Anthony
Richardson as a quarterback?
Speaker 2 (44:24):
Is he on?
Speaker 1 (44:26):
He's twenty three, Mark, he's twenty three years old, twenty four? Now,
why is it that we're just giving up on these
quarterbacks when they were thrust into the starting lineup, they
he didn't get.
Speaker 4 (44:41):
A chance to develop, he didn't harde and they were terrible.
Speaker 2 (44:47):
Some of that is not his fault, but you know
what is his fault is not throwing a check down,
not hitting the timing routes. All he does is try
to throw the deep ball scramble to where he can
run to the corner to the pipeline.
Speaker 3 (45:08):
That's very easy to defend.
Speaker 2 (45:11):
You drive back and cover to safety, and you have
your lineback middle linebackers spy the quarterback and you kill
everything that he wants. And he doesn't practice enough in
gain time to throw the check down, to throw the
quick routes, to hit the timing route over the top.
(45:33):
You have to do all those other things to be
a quarterback.
Speaker 6 (45:36):
Well when it comes to when it comes to Richardson,
when he came in the league, they know he was
a project quarterback. The whole deal is is they should
have setting him out no matter what instead of throwing
them in so he can learn those things through our
practices and through our camps and all that. But made
sure he was ready when he was in instead of
(45:57):
just throwing them out there.
Speaker 2 (45:59):
Yeah, they throw the HARDE still wants him to play
right now though, even with him being a project and
not having developed.
Speaker 4 (46:07):
Man, you're doing hard.
Speaker 3 (46:09):
You know, I'm right here.
Speaker 4 (46:09):
You know I can hear you, right, you know I
can hear you. I don't need you to be talking
about me while I'm right here.
Speaker 3 (46:16):
I need you to know. That's what you and Marcus
was doing before the.
Speaker 1 (46:20):
Show, talking without you. Well, here's the thing. I do
want him to play. I think he's the better option
for them. But the only way, and you know this
better than anybody, the only way you're gonna get better
is actually game reps.
Speaker 4 (46:38):
Now.
Speaker 1 (46:38):
Does he need to work on the fundamental part of that, Yes,
he's at practice for that. You spend more time at
practice working on his footwork, working on his balance, making
sure that to your point.
Speaker 4 (46:51):
Take the check down.
Speaker 1 (46:53):
But athletically, Daniel Jones is good, but he doesn't have
the upside as a twenty four year old quarterback. We
are just deciding that it's over for him, and that,
to me is the part that is not fair that.
Speaker 4 (47:08):
I mean, life ain't fair. I get it. I understand
sports aren't fair. I get that too, But.
Speaker 1 (47:13):
The fact of the matter is you put him in
a place that was no good and it's Shane Steichen
doing this because he knows that his.
Speaker 3 (47:22):
Job may be on the line.
Speaker 1 (47:24):
Maybe maybe he wants to go with something that's a
little bit more polished and has more game reps. And
obviously Ady Mitchell believes that this young man can help them,
But there are still some things that I believe that
Anthony Richardson could bring to the table. And that hit
that he took early in the camp where he dislocated
(47:46):
his pinky did not look good for him, and now
he's paying the price for that. So they're moving on
from him, and we'll see if he gets another opportunity
somewhere else, some other places that we.
Speaker 3 (48:00):
Gotta figure out.
Speaker 1 (48:01):
The Cowboys play tomorrow night, so we'll get into that conversation.
We'll have Tommy Yarsh with us at eight seventeen tomorrow
or eight o'clock tomorrow, excuse me, and we'll ask him
what's going on with this Joe Milton project? What is
Schottenheimer doing? But there's other teams that are trying to
figure out. We didn't really dive into the Caleb Williams
(48:23):
experience the other night, Mark, what was your biggest takeaway
from Caleb Williams getting his start in the new offense
with the new offensive coordinator.
Speaker 3 (48:33):
Did you see how fast he was getting the ball
out of here?
Speaker 4 (48:36):
Absolutely?
Speaker 2 (48:38):
And that is that's the difference between last year and
this year. Last year he did exactly what we just
said about Anthony Richardson.
Speaker 3 (48:49):
He tried to make plays with his legs when there
wasn't a play to make made because he was your
saving you're a spin.
Speaker 2 (48:56):
Your wills, or as my uncle said, you punched it
on ice. That's what he was doing. He got the
ball out of his hand. He threw two timing routes
before the wide receiver made his break.
Speaker 3 (49:12):
The ball was already in there.
Speaker 2 (49:15):
That's hard to do and it requires practice and trust.
And Anthony Richardson no trust because he won't throw that ball.
Speaker 3 (49:28):
He won't throw it.
Speaker 2 (49:29):
But we got to see Caleb actually do it when
last season he didn't do it.
Speaker 3 (49:35):
So there is hope for for Anthony Richardson.
Speaker 2 (49:39):
But when you talk about Caleb richards Caleb Williams, Anthony
should watch him.
Speaker 1 (49:48):
Yeah, they're gonna make some adjustments. We'll end up saying
what's happening as always. Coming up next, we're gonna talk
more Arch Manning. We're gonna hear from Arch. We're gonna
also hear from Michael tap and how they give each
other a hard time. Right here on the morning kickoff
on Sports Radio AM.
Speaker 4 (50:06):
Thirteen hundred The Zone.
Speaker 1 (50:08):
Welcome back to the morning kickoff right here on sports
Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone, Mike Harball, Hard's World's
Strongest Man, WWE Hall of Famer, the Mark Henry, and
of course Marcus behind the boards coming up in the
next segment. We'll close out the show and we got
some special specials for you that we're gonna talk about.
But right now we're gonna go back to the forty
(50:29):
acres because Arch Manning obviously has been getting a lot
of love.
Speaker 4 (50:35):
And rightfully so, and Mark, you know we are.
Speaker 1 (50:38):
We are nine days away from the Arch Manning era
officially starting, but there's been a lot of hype. But
one thing about Arch he is not a media guy.
Speaker 5 (50:54):
I think that's just who I am. I'm not a
guy that seeks some media. No offense guys. But it's
really about the team, eleven guys in the field. So
we're excited right now and I'm just having fun. I
dreamed of being in this position, so I'm not going
to take it for granted.
Speaker 1 (51:08):
And you believe that. I believe I do. I believe
that as well. I mean, you see him, you saw
his videos when he was a kid. I'm going to
be a quarterback at the University of Texas. You know,
he was real excited about that, and everybody kept thinking
to all the other places, but the reality of the
situation was, this is a guy that all he wants
(51:28):
to do is go out there and play football with
his teammates.
Speaker 4 (51:33):
But he's also a guy go ahead, Mark.
Speaker 2 (51:36):
He wants to prove that he deserves the height, which
is and a lot of people are not willing to
step into that. Nah, I don't deserve it, but I
want to prove to you that I do well, and
when I get an opportunity, I'm going to show you.
That's who he is. I like that well.
Speaker 1 (51:56):
He wanted to make sure that he earned the respect
of everyone else.
Speaker 10 (52:00):
It's funny.
Speaker 5 (52:00):
When I first got here, I feel like the guys
that had the most respect for the guys that really
worked hard and took it seriously. So I followed their leader,
whether it was Jay Witt, Jonathan Brooks, Kelvin Banks, especially
guys like that, I wanted to be like. And look
what they're at now, so kind of goes full circle.
Speaker 1 (52:18):
Wanted to be like Jay Witt, he wanted to be
like Jonathan Brooks. He wanted to be a guy that
was respected first before anything else, and he modeled himself
after those guys.
Speaker 2 (52:31):
Part Dunny look good though, when you you you follow
a good leader and then that leader turns to you
one day and says, hey, you got to keep this
on track. Yeah, this is your show now, man. That's
it's such a great feeling. I've been to captain before,
(52:51):
and I became the captain because it was handed over
to me, not because I took it.
Speaker 3 (52:58):
And arch Is is.
Speaker 2 (53:01):
Living that situation, and I feel like this is gonna
make him look like even more of a high draft
prospect in the NFL because of leadership.
Speaker 1 (53:14):
He has that ability. I mean, that's who he is.
That's how he's been born to do. But one of
the other thing is he's been born to play quarterback.
And he was asked, has Sark pretty much given you
everything in the playbook or is there still some things
that you're working through.
Speaker 3 (53:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (53:31):
I mean we're always putting new stuff and building. But yeah,
we we have a bunch of good plays in.
Speaker 1 (53:37):
We have a bunch of good plays in. He don't
like Sark, you don't want to give away the game plan.
He's not gonna share all the love and he's not
gonna be able to let you know that they this
is where we are with this conversation. But one of
his good buddies, the defensive back Michael taff guy that Isokie,
(53:58):
one of the intromental parts of this team, in the
backbone of this team. But he also got some jokes.
But he was asked, hey, is this team this defense?
Can it be better than last year's defense?
Speaker 10 (54:15):
Sure?
Speaker 12 (54:19):
I mean John A and Macouba, Baron ac vern Am
I missing anybody that's five. All those guys were really good.
So it's hard to replace those guys. But when you
got Anthony Hill a year older, Leongoli Foul a year older,
(54:39):
Colin Simmons a year older, myself, Jilanie Manny Gilbo, Kobe Black,
and then you add guys, I think, yeah, you can,
you can be better for sure.
Speaker 4 (54:52):
How you feel about that, Mark?
Speaker 2 (54:55):
I believe that he was right, But that's a tr
old question that when I say a troll question, I
mean you're looking for a SoundBite that may be something negative,
not something on the positive side.
Speaker 1 (55:11):
That's the wrong person to go to. Then if you
gonna look for a sound bite, you know who you
go to. You go to Colin Simmons.
Speaker 2 (55:20):
Yeah, because I'm the one, because I'm the one color one,
because I'm the one.
Speaker 3 (55:25):
Coline Simmons is that dude?
Speaker 1 (55:26):
Speaking of trolling, did you see his photo on his Instagram?
Speaker 3 (55:33):
Hey, that that dude right there. You know who he is? Debo? Yeah,
I can hear. I can hear the bay from creaking
down the street. He is. He is Debo.
Speaker 4 (55:51):
Yeah, it's like both ours.
Speaker 3 (55:53):
You know what I'm saying, Like, I'm gonna just keep
it at my house exactly. He is Debo.
Speaker 1 (55:58):
And again, you know, the playfulness between these guys on
this team, it shows you. It shows you how close
this team is. People ask Anthony Hill about Colin Simmons.
He was like, Yeah, Colin gonna do what he gonna
do because that's who Colin is. I'm not saying he's
(56:20):
not gonna get to the quarterback and he's that guy
that's gonna inflict pain every opportunity that he gets there.
But you also heard about the iron sharpening iron and
everybody playing together on the team and trying to help
each other get better. But one of the biggest things
was the playfulness between Arch and the playfulness between Michael
(56:40):
taff If you remember back with the recruitment of Arch Manning,
Michael Taff was the one who was in charge of
his recruitment. He got him here. He's on the campus
now there. They become really close. If you see one,
you see the other. They used to hang out at
the baseball games at UT base well games, they hang
(57:01):
out a lot. But the one thing that they always
mess with each other about is all American status. Obviously,
Michael Taff isn't all American returning in that secondary and
Arch is working to become an all American.
Speaker 10 (57:16):
Is an American.
Speaker 12 (57:26):
It's I mean, it's really cool to have somebody so grounded.
Speaker 10 (57:31):
Have all this attention.
Speaker 12 (57:32):
I mean, I would hate for it if it was
the other way where he really liked the attention, but
he doesn't really like it. We had an opportunity that
I'm gonna keep closed, uh, to go be in some
media thing that was gonna be really really cool. I
was kind of excited about it selfishly, but he was like,
I want to stay out of the media right now,
so we turned it down.
Speaker 4 (57:54):
But that's just who he is.
Speaker 12 (57:55):
He just cares about ball and that's really it.
Speaker 3 (57:57):
I love it.
Speaker 2 (57:59):
Hey, did you hear that that's a young guy that's
already sacrificing for the greater good. Let's not make it
about me. Let's chill. We'll have plenty of opportunities for that.
I'm trying to lay low, bro. I'm so excited right
(58:19):
now that we're in single digits, nine nine, nine days away.
Holy cal I don't know if man, can you see it?
Speaker 4 (58:32):
Can I see the end of the light that?
Speaker 8 (58:34):
No?
Speaker 5 (58:34):
Can you?
Speaker 3 (58:34):
Can you see the excitement? It's like Christmas?
Speaker 2 (58:38):
Like when you when when you said that earlier that
we're nine days away, my heart started beating.
Speaker 3 (58:45):
Fans.
Speaker 2 (58:46):
Yeah, I don't know if y'all feel that the way
I do, but I'm just so happy to have football back.
And and I really do feel like that Archie for
a young guy, he's kind of mature beyond I can't
say a rookie quarterback because he's been here two years,
(59:09):
but he's not your typical first year quarterback right starting.
Speaker 1 (59:17):
I agree with that, But do you realize that we
are less than three days away from real football with
the ranked opponent Iowa State versus k State Saturday morning,
eleven am from Dublin. Ireland football starts this weekend Mark
(59:37):
football starts on Saturday.
Speaker 3 (59:40):
You feel me. It is that time for.
Speaker 1 (59:43):
College football to kick off, and it kicks off on Saturday.
Speaker 3 (59:49):
Well look at this, Look at this.
Speaker 2 (59:51):
I mean Glasgow, Scotland right now, and a lot of
the conversation is about college football over here, and I'm
leading conversation. I've been in the UK since I was
(01:00:11):
fifteen years old. I've never heard anybody talking about college
football never, but they talking about it right now.
Speaker 1 (01:00:20):
And they got every reason too, because we are are
nine days, single digits ready to go.
Speaker 3 (01:00:27):
Coming up next, He's ready to go.
Speaker 1 (01:00:29):
WWE Hall of Famer and the world Strongest Man, Dee
Mark Henry gets ready for his World's Strongest take right
around the corner on the morning kickoff on Sports Radio
AM thirteen hundred.
Speaker 3 (01:00:40):
That's all you heard that beat drop? You know what
that means. He's across the pond.
Speaker 1 (01:00:47):
He's in Scotland, in Glasgow, but right now he is
with us bringing you his World's Strongest tape from the
WWE Hall of Famer and World's Strongest Man, Date Mark Henry.
Speaker 3 (01:01:00):
Take it away, big fellow heart. You know what time
it is? What time is it?
Speaker 2 (01:01:09):
It's time for the World's strongest take by the world's
strongest man, Marcus.
Speaker 3 (01:01:18):
Back then, they didn't know me.
Speaker 2 (01:01:22):
It's time for the world's strongest take by the world's
strongest man, Marcus. Back then they didn't know me. Now
I'm hot, They're all on me. Hey, we got a delay.
Speaker 3 (01:01:40):
You don't. You don't have to be delayed.
Speaker 4 (01:01:42):
Just keep going, dog, You're good.
Speaker 2 (01:01:44):
A little a little technical difficulties, guys, I'm very disappointed today.
Uh and my take is what I think protocols should be.
Andy Reid sixty seven year old football coach, Super Bowl
(01:02:09):
champion coach, the coach of Patrick Mahomes and the Fighting Chiefs.
You know, that's kind of like Gladys Knight and the Pips.
But anyway, I digrest. Andy Reid was in the facility
this off season.
Speaker 3 (01:02:32):
And three shots.
Speaker 2 (01:02:35):
Were fired into his office from outside of the facility.
Somebody basically tried to shoot Andy Reid. The bullet holes
hit fifteen feet. Hello, yeah, we're there, We're there. We're there,
We're there.
Speaker 3 (01:02:58):
Can you hear me?
Speaker 8 (01:02:58):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:02:58):
Yeah, keep going. Okay.
Speaker 2 (01:03:03):
The bullet holes landed fifteen feet from his desk, and
since that time, they put bulletproof glass in his office.
I that's that's the information. My take is is that
(01:03:26):
more has to be done to prevent things like this
from happening. The standard should start at twenty five years
trying to assault an official a public figure. How is
(01:03:47):
Andy Reeve supposed to feel comfortable sitting in his office
even with bulletproof glass after being shot at. I love
I love the thing of the fan the fanatic. I
love that. But what I don't like is I don't
(01:04:09):
like when something happens to a public figure or a
coach that the person gets a slap on the wrist
or they say, oh, weether they're mentally.
Speaker 3 (01:04:23):
Ill, we're gonna give them two years in probation.
Speaker 4 (01:04:28):
No, the standard for something like this should be very,
very high to make it a deterrent. What say you, Well,
first off, that that is news to me that I
had to go and Google search that because I didn't
know anything about that. That is that is interesting.
Speaker 1 (01:04:50):
That is interesting when you start to really get into
the crux of it all. I always look at it
in a certain way too, that you know, the fanatic
part of it that you brought up is getting to
the point that it is way too much to me.
When you, as a fan lose all sense of reality.
(01:05:14):
I sit here and joke about the Dallas Cowboys and
how I'm not happy with some of the things that
Jerry Jones has not been able to do or has
not done for the organization, and it's such a long time.
Speaker 4 (01:05:29):
I'm not losing my mind over it.
Speaker 1 (01:05:33):
I'm not at the point where my life is so
miserable that I have to go andduce some harm to
anybody related to the Dallas Cowboys. That to me is
probably some of the most ridiculousness of being a fan.
Speaker 3 (01:05:54):
If you are going to be.
Speaker 4 (01:05:55):
A fan, understand you have no bearing, no bearing on
the outcome of it, to the point.
Speaker 1 (01:06:03):
Of you can go there, you can cheer, you can
do whatever it is. But after the buzzer team game over,
take your behind home. It is not life in death
because you have no bearing on the outcome.
Speaker 4 (01:06:22):
It's the people that are on the field, the court,
the whatever, the pitch, whatever your fandom is.
Speaker 1 (01:06:32):
Leave it at just that. Why are you shooting at
Andy Reid, He's he's a coach.
Speaker 6 (01:06:40):
It's crazy that these these events, like the things Andy
Reid has been through as a coach period, losing his
son Uh, the divines that Belcher thing years ago, also
right at chiefs right a Chief camp. And now this
(01:07:01):
it's a weird thing about I mean weird thing that
Andy Reeves is going through bro.
Speaker 2 (01:07:06):
Three bullet holes fifteen feet from you. You can see
you can see one bullet hit, then you can see
another bullet hit the wall, and then you see another one.
Speaker 3 (01:07:19):
I'm like, man, what are we doing?
Speaker 5 (01:07:21):
Well?
Speaker 4 (01:07:21):
Where do they get the access from?
Speaker 1 (01:07:23):
That's the other part of it, too, like how did
you how are you that close? Are you a sniper?
Are you in a place where you become a sniper?
You know?
Speaker 3 (01:07:32):
Those are I guess that's what it was.
Speaker 2 (01:07:34):
They were a bad sniper because you know they missed
fifteen feet.
Speaker 3 (01:07:39):
Thank god, they were bad.
Speaker 1 (01:07:40):
Absolutely, absolutely, That's why it's just kind of it's wild
to me when you think about some of the things
that fanatics try to do in their lifetime, it just
does not make any sense. And it's disappointing to your point. Mark,
It's like, what makes you go to that level? And
(01:08:01):
I understand there's some there's some off people out there.
I understand that, we get.
Speaker 4 (01:08:06):
It, but who's next Chris Jones? But that's what mames
that that's the part that is scary.
Speaker 1 (01:08:13):
Well, we've heard about people breaking into two UH players'
houses while they've been out of town because they wanted
to do something. You saw other parts where there's been
quote unquote stalkers.
Speaker 4 (01:08:26):
On certain celebrities. But I guess you and I and.
Speaker 1 (01:08:30):
The people that we associate with, we are built a
little bit different and our mindset is not the same
as somebody like that. But it is rather disturbing that
someone can get that close to quote unquote a public
figure and somebody that wants to be a part of
the community. Now, that's why people want to withdraw a
(01:08:51):
lot of time. That's why people are always on guard.
Speaker 2 (01:08:54):
Yeah, I think they need a little Jesus.
Speaker 4 (01:08:57):
Oh there he go. I knew you had something in
your and to look for some people.
Speaker 3 (01:09:01):
Man.
Speaker 1 (01:09:02):
There he is the world's strongest man, bringing you the
world's strongest take. We're gonna close out the show and
send you to Dan Patrick. But Sophie Cunningham, the Enforcer
is out and Chicago Bear got a new contract and
get your tissues because you're gonna tear up right here on.
Speaker 4 (01:09:19):
The morning kickoff on sports Radio AM thirteen.
Speaker 3 (01:09:22):
Hundred The Zone. If you missed any parts of the show.
Speaker 1 (01:09:25):
Get over to the podcast page wherever you get your podcast,
but hopefully it's on the new and improved iHeart Radio app,
or just go over to AM thirteen hundred The Zone
on social media and you can pull up the show
and all the shows here on sports Radio AM thirteen
hundred The Zone. Make sure you tune in at two
o'clock this afternoon to listen to Craig Way, the voice
(01:09:47):
of the Texas Longhorns, as we are your home for
Texas Longhorn Football that starts nine days Kwame Cavil Days
until the football season starts.
Speaker 3 (01:09:59):
Mark.
Speaker 1 (01:10:00):
Everybody's loving your little Jesus. Everybody's giving you a little
shout out on the little Jesus. So they started laughing
at that. Good job with that. But I wanted to
talk about this because you and I have had discussions
about the w NBA. You sent me an article that
I'd already talked to Khalil Khalil Marcus about when it
(01:10:21):
comes to Paige Beckers. Paige Becker scores forty four points,
first time a rookie got to that number and just
in a loss, and she just balled out. Kelsey Plumb
beat her on the last second shot to win the
game eighty eighty one to eighty. But Paige Beckers is
(01:10:41):
somebody that I've been a really really big fan of
throughout her time playing basketball. Another story is in the
w NBA was about what Sophie Cunningham had become. She
became a social media darling. People were all up in
arms about her and how she was protecting Caitlyn Clark
(01:11:02):
and her her her appearance. A lot of people were
loving that, Well, she's out. The enforcer of the Indiana
fever is out. She tore her mcl and so she's
gonna miss the remainder of the season, which is a
disappointing part of what's going on with her right now
because of the fact she was the light in their
(01:11:24):
in their tunnel to make sure that that team continue
to roll because Caitlyn Clark has been out for so long.
Speaker 3 (01:11:32):
But I wanted to I wanted.
Speaker 1 (01:11:33):
Dis to play for you because we talked about Caleb
Williams earlier in the importance of Caleb Williams growing in
that offense. But our other part of it is we've
always talked about the backup quarterback position. You gotta have
a good backup because those quarterbacks like to run around
and they do some different things that you know, might
(01:11:55):
put them in some peculiar places and might make it
a little bit tough on them. Well, the quarterback for
the backup quarterback for the Chicago Bears.
Speaker 4 (01:12:06):
His name is Tyson Begott.
Speaker 1 (01:12:08):
He's been playing, he's been backup, he's been doing all
kinds of great things. He signed a two year, ten
million dollar extension yesterday to be the backup for Caleb Williams,
and the fans love him. His dad was a the
arm wrestling champion for a long time. They ESPN did
(01:12:29):
a story on him. Tyson went to like a D
three school and now he's in the NFL and been
there for quite some time now. But he got an
extension and just listened to the emotion that he had
at this particular time.
Speaker 10 (01:12:48):
Yeah, I think that you know, a lot of people
don't know this, but you know, my dad is.
Speaker 3 (01:12:55):
He's a right here man.
Speaker 10 (01:12:56):
He didn't have front and water until he was in
high school.
Speaker 13 (01:13:00):
So there's definitely a lot of things that and people
that I could, uh, I think I could certainly help
what this gives up and blessed with.
Speaker 3 (01:13:11):
But yeah, just little things like that.
Speaker 10 (01:13:13):
You know, I don't really know anybody back at home
with any money, so.
Speaker 3 (01:13:18):
Yeah, it feels good.
Speaker 13 (01:13:19):
I mean it's certainly a wait, h weight off my
shoulders and my family shoulders.
Speaker 3 (01:13:23):
And yeah, definitely needs a lot of Man.
Speaker 4 (01:13:29):
My man said they didn't have running water in their
house when his dad didn't have it, and his dad
did everything for him and right hand man, You and
I we're dad to some sons and being the right
hand of him is something that we can only strive
and hope for that they feel that way about us.
Speaker 3 (01:13:51):
Lord Jo, I know that guy. Yep, yeah, I know
that guy.
Speaker 2 (01:13:56):
I come from Salzman, Texas, Man, a little small town,
three thousand people, four lights.
Speaker 3 (01:14:03):
And one of them is blinking.
Speaker 2 (01:14:06):
And I understand not always having utilities in your house.
I understand having an outhouse. Until I was in the
sixth grade, we had outouse. I know what he's talking
about not knowing nobody to have money. Well, I mean
I as an adult, but as a kid coming out
(01:14:29):
of high school.
Speaker 3 (01:14:31):
You know how ignorant I was to the world into.
Speaker 2 (01:14:34):
Things and systems, and I mean little simple things. I
didn't know what I didn't know what the cup was called,
or the plate that you put underneath the cup.
Speaker 3 (01:14:48):
I mean, it was just a little bitty things for.
Speaker 2 (01:14:51):
Him to understand where his dad came from, shows that
his mother and father raised him right in the first
that he's thinking is how many people I can help.
He didn't say, oh, will go by myself and you
ride right right gonna I'm gonna I'm made man, I'm
gonna go buy my mom and dada house. He talked
(01:15:14):
about how he gonna help somebody else. Thank God for
people like him.
Speaker 1 (01:15:19):
Yeah, and he's a fan favorite and he's continued to
motivate a lot of people when when he was the
one that got the start, When when Caleb Williams wasn't playing,
the fans would grow crazy, go crazy because he's a
blue collar guy. He wasn't blessed with everything he obviously
(01:15:39):
he just brought it up. But his talent has kept
him in the league. His work ethic, he's almost like
a Taysom Hill if you really really get into the
brass taxes of it all. He was one of those
guys that has that ability to do those types of things.
So it's been really cool to see that. And I
know that Bears fans are looking for a reason to
(01:16:01):
be excited for the season. I think you just got
that with this young man right there. What a great story.
I'm so glad that we ended the show with something
like that. Hard, no doubt, no doubt. We also got
NFL football tonight. Listen is the final cut. Go ahead
and look at all these guys, because, as Mark vandermir
told us on Tuesday, there's gonna be some guys that
(01:16:24):
are gonna help your team with some victories at some
point this year. The Steelers will take on the Panthers
starting at six o'clock on.
Speaker 3 (01:16:33):
The NFL network.
Speaker 1 (01:16:35):
Amazon Prime has their first game, the Patriots at the
New York Giants at seven o'clock. We got football on
Friday because it's gonna be a feel good football Friday,
and we'll get you up to date on all of
that tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (01:16:50):
Make sure you tune in for the morning kickoff. For Mark, Henry,
for Marcus.
Speaker 3 (01:16:55):
I'm hardball hard. Just remember this.
Speaker 4 (01:16:59):
Don't believe it everything you see, because even salt looks
like sugar.
Speaker 3 (01:17:03):
We'll be back tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (01:17:04):
Have a good one. Peace,
