F D. We had coach Shark yesterday. We're gonna hear
from him. We got our covert huddle plays of the week,
and my men Andrew Zimmel text me and said, this
might low key be the greatest plays of the week
(01:39):
because we got so much to get into. If you're
a Texas Longhorn baseball fan, today is your day. Omar
Cantania will be joining us at seven forty because he
is getting inducted into the Hall of Honor this weekend.
We also gonna preview some games that are coming up,
and one of the biggest ones of the weekend happens
in Norman, Oklahoma. That's right, folks, we're gonna go north
(02:02):
of the Red River and we're gonna talk to former
Oklahoma quarterback Caale Gundhy at eight o'clock as they preview
the Ou game versus Tennessee and baseball fans, I told you, yes,
your day, Coach Jim Slosnegel, that's right, the head baseball
coach for the University of Texas will be on the

world's strongest Take mother one, the only Mark Henry. Speaking
of Mark Henry, he is my co host. I am
Mike Harball Hart. He the world's Strongest Man and a
WWE Hall of Famer, the Mark Henry. We got our
guy Khalil behind the board. And if you want to
be a part of the show, you know the drill.
(02:46):

your message to eight one five three zero. Standard data
and message rates may apply. That's the word texas followed
by your message.
Speaker 4 (02:57):
Good morning, fellas, Good morning hard Man.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
We got one most sleep, one mostly one most sleep.
Before the horns go down to the yard.
Speaker 4 (03:08):
Okay, y'all call it the forty acres.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
But I'm gonna call it the yard before they run
all over Louisiana Monroe. Okay, illick seventy five. Well, they
asking for it, they asked for it. Then you shall
see Khalid. What's happening, dog?
Speaker 4 (03:27):
I mean, what's up with your microphone player? Yeah, hard
I was adjusting the camera this morning. So you look
like mister Anderson.
Speaker 5 (03:34):
The MIC's currently sitting in a position that makes it
look like I'm in the studio you are.
Speaker 4 (03:38):
So I'm pretty used to that. I'm feeling pretty good.
You know, I'm not Patriots. Got stop.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
I wasn't even gonna gonna.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
You know, you you could be right on the bridge.
I was expecting to drive by the bridge.
Speaker 4 (03:55):
And check on you. Make sure you wasn't gonna jump.
Florida they have right there.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
No the people bungee jump off that people.
Speaker 4 (04:05):
People, you're going to go to jail. I'm gonna tell you.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
Right now, I've been over here for twenty five years,
and you will go to jail.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
It's not not that one to where if it would
have been on that bridge, but would.
Speaker 4 (04:20):
Have happened, Mark, You're going to jail. They don't play.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
A guy died about five or six years ago doing
repelling and a big sheet of rock fell and landed
on him.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
Yeah, so stay off the bridge.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
You can climb the mountain over here. You climb it,
but you want to climb right back down. They don't
want to see you trying to hook up repelling screwing
stuff into the rock.
Speaker 4 (04:49):
You're going to jail. You going to grown up jail.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
I ain't talking about that jail that they hey, look
a little slap on the ridge.
Speaker 4 (04:58):
They're talking about.
Speaker 1 (04:58):
Real grown up jail likejail. Look, yeah, that that ain't
the jail.
Speaker 4 (05:02):
You want to be a redemption. You don't want to
be in that one either. I know that one show.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
But something happened yesterday that we predicted. I've been on
this train for quite some time. As a matter of fact,
we got a chance to talk to Hall of Famer
Chipper Jones and he described it perfectly. And I sit
and I watch, and I want to throw some names
at you real quick, and you tell me your thoughts,
all right, Show hal Tani fifty to fifty.
Speaker 4 (05:31):
Uh, the Unicorn, Yeah, he's different, you know what I mean.
Speaker 6 (05:35):
Not there, There aren't any there's anybody in the game
that can be a number one starter at the top
of any rotation in the game and an MVP candidate
at the at the plate.
Speaker 4 (05:47):
Fifty to fifty is is ridiculous. And uh, he's just
He's a freak, absolutely stone cold freak.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
Show hal Tani has done something in baseball that has
never ever been done We're gonna talk to Omar Knthonia.
I'm gonna ask him about it. We're gonna talk to
Jim Slosnage, baseball coach for the University of Texas. I'm
gonna ask him about it. This is a very unique unicorn.
(06:20):
In the words of Chipper Jones, you have been on
the Aaron Judge deal, and you've been talking about Judge,
and that's fair.
Speaker 4 (06:28):
But what we just saw Mark Henry is.
Speaker 1 (06:31):
Something that probably could never be duplicated. And as I
say that, I think about over and I think about
Ronald Acuna Junior. He was a forty seventy guy that
had never been done. He was the first player to
do that. If he would have been healthy, I think
he would have challenged that, and I think he will
challenge that before. It's always about the first, right, Yeah,
(06:54):
It's always about the first shoe. Hail Tany has become
the first player in major think about Major League Baseball
and how long this? They don't have enough time yet,
I don't think, well, I take that back. I don't
take I take it back. He went last night. He
went six for six with three home runs and two
stolar bases and ten RBIs ten RBIs from the leadoff position.
Speaker 4 (07:19):
He got a leadoff last night. I mean, how many
games left they got? Like eight? Hard?
Speaker 2 (07:27):
I mean you gonna have to be I mean to
go on a tear. I mean, how impressive would that be?
Speaker 7 (07:33):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (07:33):
I mean, I'm already impressed with this. I'm I'm super impressed.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
I'm just saying, and does not forget, folks, this is
a rehab season for him.
Speaker 4 (07:43):
He's a he's a picture too.
Speaker 1 (07:47):
And I still say this, and I will stand on
that hill with my chest poked out as far as
it can possibly go. I think when he comes back,
he needs to be the closer. He doesn't need to
be the starting pitcher. Don't need to have that happen
for him at all. I think he should be a closer.
(08:08):
Imagine that you already got the money.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
But it's not like he's vying for the position exactly.
Speaker 4 (08:15):
He can do whatever he wants. Be the closer.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
It takes less, It puts less wear and tear on
your elbow.
Speaker 4 (08:23):
You're coming out of the bullpen.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
You can warm up any time because you're the d
H two, so you don't have to put put yourself
in this.
Speaker 4 (08:34):
Let's do it. I mean we're gonna need a translator,
but I will.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
I know you do. I know you do, but I'm
not gonna se my guy, Antonio. I know you listen
to the show. Yeah, we need you to get to
show Hey for us. Hey, whatever it takes, my friend,
whatever it takes. What we have seen is unbelievable.
Speaker 1 (08:55):
Ten RBIs, two stolen bases, three home and he went
six for to become the first and only player to.
Speaker 4 (09:04):
Go fifty fifty. That is amazing to me.
Speaker 1 (09:08):
And you know, I've been around the game for quite
some time and one thing that I've always been told
you might see something that you've never seen before when
you're watching the game of baseball. And what we have
witnessed is pure greatness. You heard it from a Hall
of famer. This right here solidifies his uniform will be
in the Hall of Fame to tomorrow morning. And we
(09:32):
will be talking about this for quite some time. And
if you're not talking about it, you're missing out when
we come back. We talked to coach Sark yesterday and
he's ready.
Speaker 4 (09:41):
For this ball game.
Speaker 1 (09:42):
But guess what, we gotta temper the expectations.

Speaker 1 (18:53):
The guys from bud Light are loving the show as well,
so we're making our mark mark. I want to make
sure that you get over to AM thirteen hundred to
Zone and vote for the coverd Hoteo Best Plays of
the Week. And let me just tell you, as much
as it hurts me to say this, it was very
impressive to see Alvin Kamara with four touchdowns Arch Manning
(19:15):
five tds with a sixty seven yard touchdown run, Show
hal Tany going fifty to fifty six for six, three
home runs, ten RBIs from the leadoff position, and Caitlin
Clark's rookie season was just a record breaker bow down,
and I'm a little disappointed in my girl, shirtl Swoop.
(19:37):
She still will not give credit where credit is due.
Sometimes to take the line, you gotta take the l
man just talented.
Speaker 4 (19:46):
Sometimes you just gotta, you know, say you know what
I was wrong?
Speaker 1 (19:50):
Yeah, yeah, So get over there and cash vote and
that would be exciting. Right now, It's show hal Tony
with forty. Obviously, Arch Manning is on the come up
up with thirty six point four percent, Alvin Kamara nine percent,
and Caitlin Clark at thirteen point six percent. Speaking of
arch Manning, well, it was announced yesterday Arch.
Speaker 4 (20:11):
Manning is going to start. Yay, we knew that. I
mean the performance.
Speaker 1 (20:15):
It gives Quinn more time to get healthy and start.
Talked about that as well. But yesterday Sark met with
the media and he gave us his opening statement about
this weekend.
Speaker 26 (20:27):
Say, first of all, really really nice week of work
for our for our team and our players.
Speaker 4 (20:32):
You know, I went through it and.
Speaker 26 (20:34):
Felt like, you know, candidly, we were a little off
to a little bit of a slow start this week,
just because we had some moving parts and some guys
you know that were injured last week that didn't play,
some guys that got nicked up in the game, and
so you know, some guys were limited early in the week.
But I thought, really Wednesday and Thursday's practices were tremendous.
Love that loved the energy, love the way the guys
(20:55):
operated and understanding of the plan and what we're doing.
So we're looking for We're to watching our guys go
out and compete. You know, I'll do this now. Arch
is gonna start at quarterbacks Saturday. You know, I feel
like Quinn has made great strides ever since Saturday night
and to where he's gotten to. But but you know,
with my decision is, you know, I'm looking forward to
(21:17):
the you know, his future as a player, but also
the future of the season for us and the longevity
and getting him, you know, possibly one more week healthier
for the long term, I think as good for us
as we're getting ready for SEC play.
Speaker 16 (21:30):
So Arch is more than capable as I think we
all know.
Speaker 26 (21:34):
He's got you know, a lot of you know, confidence
from his teammates and trust from his teammates to go
out and play, had a really good week of work,
understands the plan. And but it's different, you know, it's
different when you're the starting quarterback as opposed to coming
in cold off the bench as a backup.
Speaker 16 (21:47):
So different challenge for him.
Speaker 26 (21:49):
But I know that he'll be he'll be more than
ready to uh to go out and operate and play
football a high level for us.
Speaker 1 (21:54):
I think it's a great opportunity for Arch I mean,
and a great opportunity for the team because again, when
you can develop in game action, that's where all the
reps are.
Speaker 4 (22:07):
I still go back to the time when when.
Speaker 1 (22:12):
Cole McCoy got hurt and Garrett Gilbert was the backup
quarterback and he got thrust into that championship game against Alabama.
Speaker 4 (22:20):
I blame Mac.
Speaker 1 (22:21):
I blame Mac for all of that because of the
simple fact that he never put him in the game
where he can actually go out there and play.
Speaker 4 (22:30):
Nowadays, these kids and it was.
Speaker 1 (22:32):
Then too, when you're the backup and you're a backup
running back or wide receiver or tight end or Lineman.
Speaker 4 (22:39):
You want to do things to showcase your skills too.
Speaker 1 (22:42):
Do you want to hear people cheering for you instead
of saying hunting handing the ball off every time?
Speaker 4 (22:48):
You don't want to be nervous when you get in there,
right right.
Speaker 1 (22:51):
So for me, it always bothered me that when you
have an opportunity to play your backups, play your backup.
He was trying to me in my eyes, and I
don't have any record of this, but it looked to
me that Mac was trying to get Copd the Heisman
and that's why he never played the backups until those
(23:12):
late minutes. And I was like, you got to develop
these guys, man, And the best way for me to
develop is game action. And if you don't do that,
you start you start looking at these things a little
bit different. So it was good for Arch to get
the Starter's good for him to get all the reps
this week as well. But one of the things that
Sark was asked about, how what is your goals for
(23:33):
the week? What do you want to see this week?
Speaker 16 (23:37):
Well?
Speaker 26 (23:38):
I think for us is I'm always striving to play
as clean of football as we can, you know, Kirk,
and and I also think that you know, there's a
there's a style of football that I want to make
sure that we play, you know, week in and week
out and and not and do it with a consistent
kind of approach, and and the approach matters throughout the week,
because I think that that's what allows us to play
(24:00):
that way in game. And so, you know, I want
to make sure that we're really fast Saturday night. I
want to make sure that we're really physical Saturday night.
I want to make sure that we play really smart football,
and that we own the situations as they present themselves,
whether it's third down or fourth down, or short yardage
or red area you know, backed up situations. I really
want us to take care of the ball better than
(24:22):
than we did last week. You know, we had two
turnovers and we fumbled a third time. And then I
want to I want to create more turnovers, you know,
and that might be a little greedy of me. The
one turnover we got resulted in a touchdown, but but
I sure would like us to get more hands on
the ball, h you know, you know, knock the ball
off the runners a little bit more, and those types
(24:42):
of things. And then naturally, I think for us, you know,
when we're really cooking our return.
Speaker 16 (24:48):
Game and in our in our block.
Speaker 26 (24:50):
Game is really good on special teams, and so we've
made a huge point of emphasis this week, and Coach
Banks has done a great job with our special teams,
you know, over four years, and most notably this week.
So I'd love to see that aspect of our game
really start to go to another level, because I think
we're more than capable of doing that.
Speaker 2 (25:08):
Hards Monday, you said, well, I know what your take
is gonna be about, and you said Arch and I
said no, and you said what I said, no, You
saved the best for last. My take today is Arch Manning, Okay,
(25:30):
and at eight forty, it's gonna hit, it's gonna deliver.
It's gonna be one that is gonna be for the
ages because there's some any given Sunday in what I'm
gonna say about him. I hope it's the clean version,
(25:50):
the clean version. Hey man, look you gotta get off
my back. Man.
Speaker 4 (25:55):
I know that this is.
Speaker 2 (25:57):
This is terrestrial radio and not my other home, but
I'm gonna tell you right now, Coach Stark said something
real important right there. He said, you mentioned this. He
always talks about man we had a good practice.
Speaker 4 (26:14):
He said. The practice was good, but it started off
at off.
Speaker 2 (26:21):
And a lot of that was because he was re
introducing guys like Blue and other people back to the
that was injured, back to the offense.
Speaker 4 (26:33):
You see how sometimes.
Speaker 2 (26:36):
Going away for just one or two games can make
a ripple effect in the preparation. So like this, he's
got a good handle on how this is going.
Speaker 4 (26:50):
So I'm i'm I'm I'm.
Speaker 2 (26:52):
Happy that that he even disclosed that because he didn't
have to.
Speaker 1 (26:56):
He said that he wants to see the team take
care of the football a little bit. And one of
the people that had a little fumble last week was
the running back Jared Gibson.
Speaker 4 (27:06):
But I got a chance to ask Sark yesterday.
Speaker 1 (27:09):
You know, Jered Gibson was a guy, he's highly touted.
He was supposed to be this guy. Well, you got
to remember he was gonna be a guy in a
rotation of C. J.
Speaker 4 (27:20):
Baxter.
Speaker 1 (27:21):
He was gonna be in a rotation with Jayden Blue.
He was gonna be that third guy. Well, as the
injuries happened, he just kept bumping himself up and now
he's one of those players that coach Sark in the
team likes to call him Baby Ryano.
Speaker 16 (27:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 26 (27:38):
Jerck's a really tough kid, hard knows. You know, he
loves football. He likes to be coached hard. You know,
Coach Choice coaches him hard. I've never seen the guy
shy away from contact, shy away from anything, shy away
from another carry. He's just kind of got that blue
collar mentality in him. And so even when he you know,
(27:59):
as Cedric hurt, then Christian got hurt, and then you know,
Jaden got hurt, it's kind of he kept moving himself
up the depth chart and the carries started to come,
and the responsibility started to rise, pass protection, things of
that nature. It never really feels too big for Jeric,
you know, because I think he loves the game.
Speaker 16 (28:16):
Uh, he works extremely hard. He's hard on himself.
Speaker 26 (28:19):
I would say sometimes maybe a little too hard on himself,
but that's just because he wants to play really well
and wants to do right. So, like I said, you know,
we've kind of nicknamed him Baby the baby Rhino because
he will find contact. We're hoping maybe he can make
a couple of guys miss here Saturday night.
Speaker 2 (28:36):
Yeah, you know how you make people miss run through
their Faith Baby, Rhino Baby Ryan, and nobody said it
better than Beasts Mode. Y'all go pull up Beasts Mode
video of being interviewed. He said, it's hard, man, It's
hard as a defensive player to keep coming to that
(28:58):
line knowing that that guy is going to come looking
for you to run through your face and your teammates
they gonna get there, They're not gonna get there fast enough.
But I'm gonna hit you again and again and again,
and he said again like ten times. And when the
more he said it, the more I was like, god
(29:21):
stop and he was just talking.
Speaker 4 (29:24):
He wasn't hitting me.
Speaker 1 (29:25):
Well, the one thing that I always try to look
at is in this particular moment, get out of bounds.
Sometimes you already got the depth chart of changing So
every once in a while, yeah, run through them, but
set them up, get out of didn't cut back and
just be like, Okay, we got that.
Speaker 4 (29:43):
We got that. But I want you.
Speaker 1 (29:45):
To hear this about Quinn, because everybody's talking about Arch,
but Coach Sark wants you to understand this is still
Quinn's football team.
Speaker 26 (29:54):
Anytime you initially come out of a ball game, there's
a level of frustration. But I think it's the week
has gone on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.
Speaker 16 (30:03):
Uh, he's in really good spirits. I think.
Speaker 26 (30:06):
You know, one thing I tried to impress upon Quinn,
you know, all the goals he had and that we've
had for him coming into the season are all still
there for him. You know, I think we have a
National Championship caliber team and he's the quarterback of that team,
and I think we still have that in front of
us to go do that. I think with with some
of the games that we have coming up down the road, Uh,
(30:26):
this guy is going to be in New York for
the Heisman and whether he wins it or not, but
he has the ability to do that, and I think he.
Speaker 16 (30:32):
Has ability to be a top five NFL draft pick.
Speaker 26 (30:34):
So all the things that I think he's capable of
are still out there for him. And this this Saturday,
him not playing in this game this Saturday is not
going to impact those three things that that I know
are our goals that that we've set for him, and
that uh he's working towards.
Speaker 4 (30:49):
And so I think his.
Speaker 16 (30:51):
Psyche has come back in a really positive frame.
Speaker 27 (30:53):
You know.
Speaker 26 (30:54):
Naturally, everybody's always a little you. You're a little down
when you get when you when you don't get to
what you love to do, and he loves to play football.
But I think his understanding of he's getting healthy and
he's getting healthy quickly, and that all the goals and
things are still out there in front of him to
go achieve this season has really kind of inspired him
to get back and to feel good and when his
(31:16):
numbers called, be ready to play.
Speaker 1 (31:18):
That's what it's all about. That is everything that you
want to know about. Those are the types of moments
and the mentality that coach Stark, being a former quarterback,
helps with. So now we wait, but the butt kicking
commences at seven o'clock tomorrow night with arch Manning when
his first collegiate start coming up.
Speaker 4 (31:38):
Next, we have a.
Speaker 1 (31:39):

Is a two time All.
Speaker 1 (41:06):
American, a three time All Big twelve player. He was
a first round pick of the Oakland As thirty third
overall in the two thousand and three season draft. He
played for the Rockies, the Rangers, the Orioles, and the Mets,
and he is one of the best infielders to ever
(41:26):
play at the University of Texas. He's out of El
Paso and I'm gonna ask him about one of his
greatest contributions to the University of Texas. He is Omar Kintonia, Omar,
how you doing today, my brother?
Speaker 25 (41:39):
What's up, Fellas? I'm doing great. I'm doing great. Thank you,
Thank you for having me on the show.
Speaker 4 (41:44):
I'm glad to have you on.
Speaker 1 (41:45):
Man. As a baseball player, these are the types of
moments that I love to talk to to former players
and guys that just absolutely love the game. And I'm
gonna start off, We're gonna get into your career. But
I'm gonna ask you, what does show hail Tani going
fifty to fifty mean to you?
Speaker 28 (42:07):
Man?
Speaker 25 (42:08):
What does it mean to me?
Speaker 28 (42:09):
Oh man, that's unbelievable. What are you doing?
Speaker 25 (42:11):
You know, I thought twenty twenty was pretty tough. Thirty
thirty is pretty tough.
Speaker 4 (42:17):
Show he's doing.
Speaker 28 (42:18):
Fifty to fifty, then that's unbelievable.
Speaker 21 (42:21):
You know.
Speaker 25 (42:23):
It just shows that, you know, anything can be done
in this game, and you know, players are getting better
and better by the year every day I sit here.
Speaker 1 (42:34):
We had Chipper Jones on a couple of days ago
and he called him a unicorn. You know, it's just
one of those guys that can do it on the mound.
He could be a front end starter, Cy Young Award winner,
and he's also the MVP because of the numbers that
he puts up at the plate and in the field too.
I mean, you just think about what we've been able
(42:54):
to see, and you are somebody that is obviously super talented.
You don't get drafted in the in the first round
without having skills, but playing here on the forty acres
is something that a lot of people don't get those
opportunities to do. What did that mean to you when
you decided you were going to play baseball at the
University of Texas.
Speaker 25 (43:17):
It meant everything to me, you know, just you know,
playing at a school, at a prestigious school like Texas
or something special, you know, and you know, with a
tradition that Texas had, it was even more more of
a you know, remarkable thing to do, you know, coming
(43:38):
here and you know, just being a part of a
program that's known for winning and for winning for years,
you know, and especially with a coaching staff that it had,
it was truly an honor to be here.
Speaker 2 (43:54):
Mister Cantania. I am a very good friend of the
family of the Guerreros out there in their passo, and
Eddie Guerrero used to take me to this place called
Ellen J's Cafe. Did you ever go there?
Speaker 28 (44:11):
Yes, sir, listen man.
Speaker 4 (44:14):
I became a.
Speaker 2 (44:15):
Black second when I when I started coming to a
passo because my favorite food is soul food and Mexican food.
Speaker 4 (44:25):
Anybody knows me know when I suggest.
Speaker 2 (44:27):
Where we're going, I want to go to the best
Mexican restaurant, the best soul food place.
Speaker 28 (44:34):
Is there.
Speaker 2 (44:35):
Is there a place that you feel like, you know,
Hard's gonna talk about baseball.
Speaker 4 (44:39):
Yeah, I'm here for comic relief.
Speaker 2 (44:44):
You know, he's the picture. I'm the relief picture. So
what what's your place? If you was gonna pick one, Like,
what what place would you go eat?
Speaker 25 (44:57):
Oh Man pass grown so much, you know, and Ellen
Jay definitely is a staple in Opaso, you know, for
Mexican food. But like I say, this grows so much
that you know, one of my favorite places to go
is a place called in Cornalitos down in Opaso. I've
got a couple of locations down there, and uh, you know,
(45:17):
wood is pretty bombed, I'll tell you that.
Speaker 28 (45:20):
But you can never go wrong with Ellen J's.
Speaker 4 (45:23):
I'm gonna tell you something, Omar, this dude is over
here writing that down. I'm going, Yeah, he goes to
El Paso. He's gonna go out there and get something
to eat.
Speaker 1 (45:36):
We're talking to Omar Cantonil, shortstop on the national championship
team at the University of Texas. He will be inducted
into the Hall of Honor tonight. As a matter of fact,
right tonight is the night that it goes.
Speaker 25 (45:50):
Down right, Yes, search and nice tonight starting at Yeah,
that is.
Speaker 1 (45:55):
An amazing fun because you think about all of the
players that have walked the forty acres, not only in football, basketball,
but all the great baseball players that have played at
the University of Texas. I was fortunate enough to sign
a scholarship to play baseball here at the University of Texas.
I got ended up getting drafted. It was a long
(46:17):
long time ago, omur, long long time ago. But but
you know, the history and the tradition at the University
of Texas is like no other when it comes to baseball.
When people find out obviously who you are and find
out that they that you played baseball at the University
of Texas, what do they look at you and say
(46:38):
to you because they know if they if you play
at Texas, you got to be pretty dog on good.
Speaker 25 (46:45):
I don't know, definitely, you know, Just like I said,
people know, people know the tradition here at Texas, and
you know, they know how big everything was here, you know,
and not only baseball, all sports, you know, And like
used to say, you know, everybody wants to come to
University of Texas and play, So you got to go
(47:06):
out there and beat up on everybody because everybody wants
to be in your shoes.
Speaker 4 (47:10):
No doubt, no doubt. Before I let you go, man,
I wanted to ask you this question.
Speaker 1 (47:14):
It is kind of cool and a lot of people
may know this story, but there's a lot of people
that don't. I said earlier in your introduction, one of
your greatest contributions wasn't just you coming out here and
playing on the forty acres and now being inducted into
the Hall of Honor. It was you making a phone
call to let them know that they needed to go
(47:35):
get you know who Ivan Melindaz. Tell everybody how that
story came about and why you were credited with that.
Speaker 25 (47:47):
I mean, I've worked with Ivan when he was in
junior college and after his second year, you know, after
his first year, he put up some crazy numbers, and
I knew this kid needed to go somewhere where he
can help and where of course the university can do
a lot for him. And of course I reached out
(48:08):
to to Tulowitzki and you know, just tell him about
this kid, ivn Melendez. If you saw him, you know,
the kid kids of Beast, looking big, and you know,
he had the numbers to back it up. And of course,
being from Opaso, I wanted him to go to the

Welcome back to the morning kickoff right here on Sports Radio.
Mike Harball, hars D, Mark Henry Khalil behind the board.
UH special thanks to Omar Keintonia for giving us the
time to talk to him. Congratulations again on being inducted
into the Hall of Honor. It's a very very special
elite group of people that you get into those types
(56:38):
of in types of those types of situations and being
able to be recognized as one of the greatest athletes
to play any sport at the University of Texas. Last
night we got a chance to kick off the NFL
weekend with the New York Jets getting that dub over
(56:59):
Khalil's new ending Patriots. And the question that I have
for you, Mark Henry, is because we were trying to
figure out if we were gonna put dirt on Aaron Rodgers,
and Aaron Rodgers decided not so fast.
Speaker 4 (57:12):
My friends.
Speaker 1 (57:13):
I want y'all to recognize my greatness. Was it truly
that greater performance or was.
Speaker 8 (57:20):
It just that.
Speaker 2 (57:23):
The Patriots failure? Yes, that a little bit of success
looked like a lot.
Speaker 4 (57:29):
Yes, that would be my question. I don't think so.
Speaker 2 (57:35):
Last night he did two things that I always say
a great indicator of whether a quarterback can still play.
Can you scramble and keep your eyes up feel he
did that. Okay, he scrambled, but he realized I'm not
the Aaron Rodgers that I used to be where I
would run to the sideline and I would.
Speaker 4 (57:58):
Stick the ball out and all of that.
Speaker 2 (58:00):
He's slid Last night, When was the last time you ever.
Speaker 4 (58:02):
Seen him slot? Yeah, he needed to because they were
gonna try to take his head off. Oh yeah, you
know they coming.
Speaker 2 (58:08):
And his throws off platform and stepping up in the
pocket still look like Aaron Rodgers. Now, eventually there's gonna
be a day where he's not gonna be able to
do that again.
Speaker 4 (58:24):
Lebron.
Speaker 2 (58:25):
I mean, I know Lebron is saying he's looking like
he'll never fade. But eventually, one of these days, Lebron
is not gonna look like the Lebron we see. Last night,
Aaron Rodgers looked like the Aaron Rodgers that we knew.
Speaker 4 (58:40):
So my question is, now, is Aaron Rodgers ready to
lead this team?
Speaker 1 (58:45):
Do the New York Jets believe that they have an
opportunity here to be that special team again? I'm interested
to see how it's gonna play out, because, yeah, he
looks sharp, he did okay, but is he ready to
be that Aaron Rodgers. I mean, you're gaming back from
that Achilles injury. That's the scary part about it. When
(59:06):
you have that type of injury, you're wondering with the
medicine and the modern medicine.
Speaker 4 (59:12):
Can you don't have the bad load.
Speaker 2 (59:14):
You got two really good running back, you got two
really good wide receivers, one big one skill, and you
got a great tight end, yeap, So spread the wealth
and don't take the hit.
Speaker 4 (59:25):
All right?
Speaker 1 (59:25):
Coming up next, we're gonna be talking to We're going
above the Red River. We're gonna be talking to Kale Gandhi,
former quarterback and offensive coordinator of the Oklahoma Sooners as
they have a big matchup against Tennessee. Right here on
the morning kickoff on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred, The
Zoon
