That's right, folks, the Dallas Cowboys are out here making major.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
Major moves.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
And the funny part about it is yesterday Mark Henry
said he just want to love again. Mark, this is
your opportunity to want to love again, because the news
broke this morning that the Cowboys will trade a third
round and a sixth round pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers
for George Pickens and a seventh round picking pick. Pickens
(02:38):
is twenty four years old and over his three year
career in Pittsburgh, he has one hundred and seventy four receptions,
two thy, eight hundred and forty one yards, twelve tds,
and he had last season he had fifty nine receptions
for nine hundred yards and three touchdowns. Now, the beauty
of this deal is that it's a one year deal.
(03:02):
It's a fill me out type of deal. It is
all right, come on out here, if you fit in well,
we might give you a little bit more money, especially
because he's only twenty four years old.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
That is a huge, huge part of it.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
But now you've been wanting, we've been asking for, and
now we have a wide receiver to compliment CD Lamb.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
He's actually a true compliment to what CD is too.
He's a six y three and a half two hundred
and five pound wide receiver that does very well with
the inside routes and jump balls in the end zone,
which CD is a mass ad manipulating defenses and finding
(03:46):
open spots. But he's an elevator. He's a climber, so
you can just get him the ball in the end
zone with a little bit of lobs here and there.
I think that's going to be very effective for them
in the red.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
But what took them so long? What do you mean?
I mean, dang, it took the Cowboys forever.
Speaker 2 (04:09):
They waited and waited and waited to this last moment
to go get a wide receiver.
Speaker 3 (04:16):
They they could have done better. What do you mean?
What do you mean? What do I mean?
Speaker 2 (04:22):
They could have done better at at picking a wide receiver.
If you're going to offer a third in a sixth round,
do that during the draft, do that before the draft?
Speaker 3 (04:31):
What is what? What? Wait? Wait? Why what?
Speaker 2 (04:34):
There are no games being played. There's no games being played.
But you can all you can sure up your offense.
You just did.
Speaker 1 (04:41):
You gave up a third and you gotta You got
this guy who has some history of not being a
great teammate. You got him for a one year, three
three point six million dollar deal.
Speaker 3 (04:53):
You're you're you're doing.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
You don't have to keep him at all.
Speaker 3 (04:58):
So for me, this is a win win situation for him,
and I'm tempering my expectation all right.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
Say that now, don't don't don't try to rush him
in the try to go out here and get something,
because again, no games are being played.
Speaker 3 (05:13):
We've been begging.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
For them to go out and make it, and they
got a wide receiver, they got a play. That is
the one question that I do have, and I will.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
Take a will he take a homeboy deal?
Speaker 1 (05:31):
I would definitely say this is taking Amari Cooper off
the table, and that's disappointing because of MARII Cooper number
one is a great, excellent route runner.
Speaker 3 (05:41):
He's a great teammate.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
Every single person when he left, he was everybody was
disappointed when he left.
Speaker 3 (05:48):
He's great in the locker room.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
But this is a guy, George Pickens, that if things
go the way we're hoping, as you said, you're tempering
your expectatorations right now. Great great choice of words and
a great thought process temporum, because all you want to
do is love again. I don't want you getting too
(06:13):
emotional again.
Speaker 3 (06:15):
I don't want to either. But if you.
Speaker 1 (06:17):
Look at what George Pickens can bring to the table,
he can stretch the field, he can open up those
things that you've been talking about for ceedee lamb across
the middle. And I mean I still believe that people
are gonna double team and bracket and try to figure
out a way to stop CD because he's that type
of player. But now you put pressure on the corner
(06:42):
and the safety with George Pickens because he does have
that ability to go up and make a play.
Speaker 3 (06:49):
You want to talk about a play maker, that's your
pay maker.
Speaker 1 (06:53):
He made to play.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
You want to talk there he is.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
Well, I'm hoping that this also opens it up for
the tight because I.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
Think it opens it up for everybody because what you said,
because of what you asked for, now if they can
go out and when you and I had this conversation
off air yesterday, so I don't mind bringing it to
air about Nick Chubb.
Speaker 3 (07:17):
Nick Chubb is somebody too.
Speaker 1 (07:19):
You kept saying we need a power back, we need
a power back. You got a power back. Nick Chubb
is sitting out there. If the Cowboys are really really
serious and we've been going at them, they made moves
all off season. They brought in player after player and
maybe something. A lot of them seem to be on
mercenary deals, right, So if I am a guy that
(07:43):
is looking to extend my career in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (07:48):
Can you take a little.
Speaker 1 (07:49):
Bit less go there and prove myself exactly exactly what
I said.
Speaker 3 (07:54):
I'm picking up what you're putting down.
Speaker 2 (07:56):
But it's it's hard for me because I mean, I
mean most invested and being a fan of them since
I since nineteen seventy four. Like it's hard for me
to watch this decline. Like it's like Jerry Jones is.
It's like he's not trying to win that all he
(08:18):
wants to do is promote and market, and I just
don't like that. Because he's an owner, he can he can,
he can get his jolly's elsewhere. The only way that
us as fans we're gonna get our jolly's is if
we win, if we go to the playoffs, if we
have a run, even if we get beat in the playoffs,
(08:40):
at least we got there.
Speaker 1 (08:42):
It's been thirty years, been so long, talk about it.
I'm talking about you get an emotional gun. I'm okay,
I'm down all right. Well, in the words of the
great folks from Trading Places, Martima, where.
Speaker 3 (09:03):
And not only are we back?
Speaker 1 (09:04):
And you were talking about the the the running game, Well,
Jaden Blue was interviewed and was asked about Sharton ho Shardenheimer,
Schottenheimer and what exactly he brings to the table. And
he loves the energy. I love his energy.
Speaker 3 (09:21):
I mean he matches our energy.
Speaker 4 (09:23):
I mean he has you know, comes in the meeting
room with juice and you know he likes to you know,
have fun. I mean that's that's what I like as
a coach. I mean, you know when you have a
coach that that's that can you relate to and you
know that that have fun with you and know how
to turn off when it's time of coach.
Speaker 3 (09:38):
I love it. I love it. That's a good sign.
Speaker 1 (09:41):
I mean, look, as I just told you, they ain't
play the game yet, and that's fine, but all signs
for this offseason have shown me that at least they
are trying. And that's all we've been asking for you.
And you know it's been quiet. Jerry ain't talking out.
We're all leaning.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
He didn't have to say it. I love the fact
that right now is quiet.
Speaker 4 (10:05):
Yes, this is the.
Speaker 3 (10:09):
Biggest news.
Speaker 5 (10:10):
Now.
Speaker 2 (10:10):
They can just keep him quiet while this is because
I don't want to hear him. Go see, I told
you right, just be quiet, quiet, all right?
Speaker 3 (10:20):
So let me ask you this. We got the Cowboys
offense looks like this.
Speaker 1 (10:24):
Dak Prescott, Javonte Williams, Jaden Blue and Hunter Lemke wide
receiving corps Ceedee Lamb, George Pickens and Jalen Tobert tight
end Jake Ferguson. And then on the offensive line, we
got the Tyler Tyler Tyler combination. Only thing they missing
is Tyler Perry and he might be able to play
(10:46):
offensive line too. So you got Tyler Geidon, you got
Tyler Smith, you got Connor Beebe at center, Tyler Booker
who wants to take the life out of you, and
then you got Terrence Still on that offense, Cowboys offense
now looks just like that.
Speaker 3 (11:03):
It looks like an offense.
Speaker 1 (11:05):
It looks like there's some opportunities that are going to
put pressure on u CD. You're developing the depth as well.
So great, great stuff by the Cowboys. As I said,
George Pickens is being traded to the Dallas Cowboys for
a third and a fifth a fifth, not a six
(11:27):
fifth part and we get pickings in another six round pick.
So I'm excited about it. We're just getting started right
here on the morning kickoff on the way back Wednesday.
Coming up next, we're gonna talk NBA.
Speaker 3 (11:42):
It's still fantastic.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
We'll talk about it right here on the morning kickoff
on Sports Radio A thirteen hundred design. Obviously, the big
news of the day is the Dallas Cowboys making a
major move in trading for George Pickens of the Pittsburgh
Steelers to now thank him.
Speaker 3 (12:04):
A Dallas Cowboy.
Speaker 1 (12:05):
We'll have more on that a little bit later in
the show, but right now I want to talk n
BE a basketball That's right, NBA.
Speaker 3 (12:14):
I said it yesterday.
Speaker 1 (12:15):
The old saying is the NBA it is fanantastic, and
yesterday was another one of those great days if you're
an Indiana Pacers. The Indiana Pacers are now two and
oh two road games. As we talked about yesterday, we
said the series doesn't start until you win a road game. Well,
(12:38):
the series got even better as the Indiana Pacers win
again one twenty to one nineteen. But it was the process.
Going into that ball game, you knew that it was
going to be tough for Cleveland to win. They were
down three crucial players, Evan Moseley, DeAndre Hunter and Darius Garland,
(13:00):
but Donovan Mitchell did everything he could possibly do, scoring
forty eight points, nine assists and four steals and electrifying
the crowd.
Speaker 2 (13:12):
Their rhythm and got back to playing patient's ball.
Speaker 6 (13:20):
Tell David Mitchell taking their potic away here at.
Speaker 1 (13:24):
Cleveland, postalizing once again on a dunk. But the end
of the game, it came down to a special, special
player making a very very special play out.
Speaker 2 (13:39):
If you're a pat, your guys have got to do
a much better job of getting open.
Speaker 6 (13:44):
Missus Halliburton the rebound. Nine seconds they do have a
time out, Carlisle's gonna let him play.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
Calliburton steps back, hecks Tyrese Halliburton tried it. Take Cleveland's heart.
He's over.
Speaker 6 (14:06):
The other Pacers in a game two stunner.
Speaker 3 (14:14):
Unbelievable. I'm still in shock, Partners.
Speaker 1 (14:20):
They just knew everything that had to go right for
the Pacers.
Speaker 3 (14:24):
Down the stretch, he.
Speaker 2 (14:26):
Misses this freezo gets his own rebound and then they
get crossmatched here and he's able to just create the space.
Speaker 1 (14:37):
Unreal.
Speaker 3 (14:37):
What a game. And how about mister Halliburton.
Speaker 1 (14:43):
Mister Halliburton is his daddy, and his daddy is staying
at home, and right now they have been able to
shock the Cleveland Cavaliers in taking a two oh lead
on Cleveland's home court. Said ru, he said, try, yeah,
(15:03):
to take their heart. He took their heart, he sure did.
Speaker 2 (15:07):
I should allow him to get his own rebound on
that misshot though, not boxing.
Speaker 1 (15:11):
Out, man, that's the number one rule in basketball. Box
out on the free throws. Box out, box out, box out,
And you let him get his own rebound, and then
you have him. You let him set you up to
the point that he is going to break your ankles
to do his step back. And he got to his spot.
(15:35):
And that is the thing that was so impressive to me.
Speaker 2 (15:38):
I can see one of those memes right now, somebody
you know, getting taken advantage of and you show the
other person doing the Halem shuffle that he danced him,
made him step back and harsh wide open shot, yes,
wide open shot. And this is the guy that they
considered the most overrated it yeah yeah.
Speaker 3 (16:02):
And he talked about.
Speaker 7 (16:03):
That you feed off of that overrated chance that the
Cavs fan base was giving you.
Speaker 8 (16:10):
Yeah, I mean sure, yeah, that one was unexpected. I
didn't know we had beef, but uh yeah, I guess that.
Speaker 3 (16:20):
I mean, good for them. Man, that came out of nowhere.
Speaker 8 (16:24):
But it's just, uh, I think now that that label's there,
they're all as. That's gonna be every time he plays them,
like every time all Row. They'll probably follow me until
the next poll comes out and then we'll see if
I'm number one again. But you know, for me, I
just control what I can, man, And uh yeah, I mean.
Speaker 1 (16:46):
Overrate that, overrate that. That's what I'm talking about. And
you forgot to in this matchup, you have Miles Turner
Texas Longhorns going up against Jared Allen Texas Longhorn. Jared
Allen had I mean, excuse me, had twenty two points
last night and Miles Turner had twenty three points last night.
Speaker 3 (17:07):
So that matchup has.
Speaker 1 (17:08):
Been really, really good, and it's good to see two
Texas longhorse being able to play in the NBA and
having that great of an influence on the teams they play,
no doubt about it, man. So it is uh, it's
gonna be an uphill battle now for the Cleveland Cavaliers
to go on the road and trying to duplicate what
(17:28):
was just done to them is gonna be a little
bit tougher going back to your point about Tyrese Halliburton,
I think they need to start putting some respect on
his name because, yeah, may be he may be unorthodox,
but the dude can hoop, and when it comes to
clunch crunch time, he has been in there.
Speaker 2 (17:46):
I'm so tired of hearing people talk about his shot
is ugly. Yeah, and if it goes in, I don't care.
I mean, you can go back to the Chicago Bulls
and James not James Edwards. Bill cart Right, Bill cart Right,
you had an ugly free throw shot.
Speaker 3 (18:03):
Yep. But it went in. Yep.
Speaker 2 (18:06):
And you know when you when you shoot a high percentage.
I think I could live with it looking back. Yeah,
no doubt.
Speaker 1 (18:12):
It's funny that you said that because the former manager
of mine, Felipe alou He, he mentioned something like that.
They was like, Felipe, you hit ugly, and he said,
the key word is I hit. You know what I'm saying.
So it all matter as long as that ball is
going in. It could be the ugliest shot ever. And
they are up two games to none. Speaking of ugly shots,
(18:36):
the numbers yesterday did not lie, as the Minnesota Timberwolves
shot just like the Boston Celtics the other day.
Speaker 3 (18:45):
How bad they were. They were awful.
Speaker 1 (18:48):
They were five of twenty nine from three point land
and Anthony Edwards was one of five from three point land.
Speaker 3 (18:55):
But the story was one about Steph Curry through the.
Speaker 5 (19:00):
Tape room, tracking this all the way, finding the pallmangg.
Speaker 3 (19:03):
Curry showed us for the first time.
Speaker 5 (19:05):
That was after the three pointer, just grabbing it his
left hamstring.
Speaker 3 (19:09):
Now'll stay with it here. We'll try to give you
as much as.
Speaker 9 (19:11):
We can before play resumes, but it's obviously not comfortable.
Speaker 3 (19:17):
And then the Warriors get the ball back.
Speaker 6 (19:19):
This is all on tape, gets the ball back, Curry
that little foot shot immediately grabs at it again.
Speaker 1 (19:26):
And now he is having to do with an injury.
Not sure exactly how all of this is going to
play out. We're still trying to figure that all out.
But I'm just telling you right now with Steph Curry
being out as having a tough, tough time, and Jimmy
Butler knows that we need our.
Speaker 5 (19:46):
Guy said this morning that game one of a series.
Speaker 1 (19:51):
Always just a feeling out process. What do you learn
from this game one that you're going to bring into
Thursday of.
Speaker 2 (19:55):
The team stuff is our best player, and the game
is much easier when we got.
Speaker 1 (19:59):
It to me simple enough to dress on the way,
we'll see a thirsty you need him as the Golden
State Warriors win ninety nine to eighty eight. But let's
be honest, the way that Minnesota came out and the
way that they played was awful, awful basketball, and they
(20:20):
did not take advantage of the fact that Steph Curry
was out.
Speaker 3 (20:25):
Well.
Speaker 2 (20:25):
I saw them several times hard try to defer to
Anthony Edwards, and he just let him down, completely let
him down, right, And when you completely let your team down,
I mean he couldn't throw it in the ocean. There
was at one point he was like one for like twelve,
mat it right, no doubt, don't don't shoot the ball
(20:51):
no more, just pass it, like get on your hustle man,
start trying to over rebound, like get in position box
people out make it everybody's life miserable. He kept on
going to a bag that there was nothing in it, right,
And that's when I mean, so many times we're in
(21:11):
sports you're just not on. And if you're on, you
got to recognize you're not and you got to defer
to somebody else or help facilitate and make the other
person better.
Speaker 1 (21:22):
Yeah, the one thing that I continue to try to
figure out is in those moments, when do you start
to be more aggressive by attacking the rim when you're missing.
Speaker 3 (21:35):
Shots from the outside.
Speaker 1 (21:36):
That's kind of what we were talking about yesterday. When
you're missing for you took sixty three points three pointers
if you're Boston the other night and you may you
missed forty five of them, when do you start realizing
that I need to attack the rim? And it is
the same thing with the Warriors and the excuse me,
(21:58):
the timber Wolves. You were five of twenty nine. You
shot seventeen percent from three point land, that's what you
and you shot eighty eight percent from the free throw line.
Speaker 3 (22:12):
That's bad business right there.
Speaker 1 (22:14):
Hey, that math ain't Mathew, and we got to figure
that out. Coming up next, we're gonna see if Danny
Davis can figure it out. Texas Longhorns are doing major
things in the SEC and it's happening from top to
bottom right here on the morning kickoff on sports Radio
AM thirteen hundred the Zone. It's Wednesday, So that means
(22:36):
we gotta go to our guy Danny Davis of the
Austin American Statesman. You can follow them at Underscore Danny
Davis and Danny I wanted to ask you Texas decided
to go into the transfer portal and get a backup
quarterback to come in and kind of sure.
Speaker 3 (22:54):
Up that back in.
Speaker 1 (22:55):
What were your thoughts when you heard that Texas was
going to the Sunbelt to get a new quarterback.
Speaker 5 (23:03):
I was surprised what that news broke this weekend because
I thought that Texas, you know, Steve has seen pretty
high on, you know, the progress of the Trey Owen's
and kJ Lacey.
Speaker 3 (23:13):
But I guess, you.
Speaker 5 (23:15):
Know, I guess you can never have too much assurance
behind Arch in case something goes goes wrong. And I
guess it doesn't necessarily mean that Train and kJ are
out of the picture. But it was a little surprising.
But I guess there's a little competition behind Arts now.
I don't think it's had any thing to do with
Arch or anything to do with lighting the fire under
him or pushing him or giving him more competition. I
(23:36):
think it's probably says more about the backup positioning kind
of the.
Speaker 3 (23:41):
You.
Speaker 5 (23:42):
I think Texas Sands maybe taking for granted, what they've
had behind Quinn the past two years, whether that was
Malik two years ago or even Hudson card during Quinn's
first year and Arch obviously last year. But I guess
Texas is once able bit of reassurance is back up position.
Speaker 2 (23:59):
Then is Texas done trying to retool and rebuild their
team to get ready for next year.
Speaker 5 (24:10):
I don't think Texas is ever necessarily done. I mean,
if there's someone in the portal who wants them to Texas,
I'm sure, you know, Steve and his staff are always
taking a look at the portal. I mean even look
at some of the other other sports across the board.
I mean there's you know, coaches are always you know,
there's people on those staffs are I had to keep
an eye on the transfer portal and kind of monitor
(24:31):
those situations. If someone wants them to Texas and it's
position of need, you know, there's some you know, stud
receiver who makes it known that hey, I'm interested in
coming to Texas. Texas isn't going to turn them down,
even though they may be feeling content right now with
the receiver position or any position. So I'm sure Steven
and his staff are going to keep monitoring that transfer
(24:51):
portal and if there's someone that they feel can help
them win a national championship this year, they're definitely going
to have their people call those people and we'll see
how that. But I mean with hot thinking that you
know there can be I don't think anyone was expecting
Texas to go after the quarterback that was in something
to see that said he was concerned with when we
talked to him this spring. But you know, they felt
(25:12):
that that's something that can help them win, so that's
what they did.
Speaker 1 (25:14):
We're talking to Danny Davis of the Austin American Statesman.
You can follow him on social media at Underscore Danny
Davis and Danny. You know, as we look towards the
football season, there's a lot of questions that are still
ready to be answered. If you look at some of
the recruiting rankings, you see that Texas has.
Speaker 3 (25:34):
Done really well in certain areas.
Speaker 1 (25:36):
If you look at some of the post spring rankings,
they have Texas at least in the top two. Do
you think those rankings are a fair assessment of what
is truly out there? Obviously, coach Sark's history leads him
to that type of ranking. But you still have an
unproven quarterback, you still have some new coaches and some
(25:59):
new play players that are learning a news system.
Speaker 3 (26:03):
Is it too early to look.
Speaker 1 (26:04):
At Texas as a national champion contender?
Speaker 5 (26:10):
I mean rankings, I mean they are what they are.
I mean, rankings are stuff that you know, for people
like us in our business due that you know, kind
of kill time in the off season. The first time
we talked to him in August and we tell them, hey,
you know, you guys are ranked number one and they
ranked number two, they'll say some you know, remarks saying,
you know, no disrespect to y'all, but we don't care
(26:32):
about those rankings. That's just something for you to talk
about it. At the end of the day, that's the truth.
I mean, they're you know, there's those are people's opinions.
Anyone can have them. I mean some are a little
bit more informed than others. But at the end of
the day, what matter is what happens on August thirtieth,
whenever that Ohio State game is, and you know, we'll
go from there. But I mean, there have been plenty
(26:53):
of cases over the years. You know, a preseason poll
and you know some of those top teams kind of
play out as we expected. But then there's some team
that you know, was ranked twenty as recording not on
the war that comes out and also is continue for
national championship. So I mean it gets a proven on
the field. I mean, there's reasons to believe why Texas
can contend financial championship. But as you lay out, there's
(27:16):
a lot of inexperience, there's a lot of hold. But
you know that's that's across the boards college football. Every
team is going through some sort of makeover in the
off season. It's just a matter of what actually happened
in September, in October and November that actually decided this.
But I enjoy having stuff to actually write about and
talk about the off season, so I say keep those polls.
Speaker 3 (27:37):
Coming, Danny.
Speaker 2 (27:38):
We we started this. University of Texas is starting in
the big house. And even with the unproven abilities for
arch Manning, uh going into the big house. They they've
lost their defensive coordinated to from Ohio State Wednesday.
Speaker 3 (28:01):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (28:01):
Do you think that that's going to put Ohio State
at a disadvantage?
Speaker 5 (28:06):
Well, I hope Texas isn't starting the big house because
I'm planning on going to Columbus, but obviously, you know,
that's gonna be a huge, huge test I think for
both programs. We know of State obviously is gonna have
a lot of questions with some of their offseason losses
and coming up the championship. In Texas obviously with Arch
and you know, taking taking over full time and some
(28:29):
of the new new faces, I mean, that's gonna be
a huge first test, and that's gonna be a you
know what, one hundred and five thousands. However may they
shove into that stadium. That's not necessarily the easiest place
to start. So like they're bringing in you know, some
you know, subdult school at home to be about fifty
that're throwing him to the wolves and telling him that
he will be beat Ohio State for his first start.
(28:50):
I guess it's kind of like what cold got, you know,
when when he had to start in one of the six.
So it's being thrown to the wolves. We'll learn about
a lot about this, but I think it's one of
those things that we're going to overreact either way. If
Arch goes out of beats Ohio State. I think Texas
fans are going to be in a frenzy and taking
the vault number one. They are already number one. They're
(29:10):
definitely going to be number one after after that win.
But if they lose, you know, people are gonna start
panicking and you're freaking out and wondering if Arch is
really the guy. So I'm sure, regardless of what happens,
it's going to be overreaction on Monday. And that's just
kind of the world removing.
Speaker 1 (29:24):
Yeah, it's always an overreaction Monday. Speaking of overreacting, people
pretty much lost their mind when Texas went to Arkansas
and lost or got swept. Now they come back, they
get a win last night, and then they take on
Florida this weekend.
Speaker 3 (29:42):
Did you overreact or you're like things that have happened.
Speaker 5 (29:48):
I mean, I think a reaction is proper. I don't
you know, Texas. I think the biggest knock against Texas
was that they hadn't beaten anyone of substance up on
the road, and they they went to get a very face,
a very good Arkansas game, and let's just be honest,
they didn't look good. It's not like they lost three
one run games or you know, they could come back
(30:09):
home and be like we should have taken that Saturday game,
and we should have taken that Sunday game, but they
got their buskakes three straight days. And you know, sometimes
you it doesn't hurt to lose like that kind of
wake the people up and kind of reminds the people
that you know, college baseball and you know you can
lose on any day. I'm not saying that you know,
they got in complacements or anything like that, but sometimes
(30:32):
those losses are are good. Gives the coaches something to
work on because they staff didn't look great. In the
offense office, he did not look great as well. But
you know, the fact of the matter is Texas is
not going on the run in the postseason, and that
you know that home region is going to be in Austin,
and you know they you know, hold court the next
couple of weekends.
Speaker 3 (30:50):
It's gonna be.
Speaker 5 (30:51):
Hard to argue that a super regional is going to
be in Austin either. So I don't think we had
to worry. If you're a Texas fan about Texas, you know,
going into a hostile environment on the road in the
postseason until you get to omahah is more neutral. But
I mean, there's definitely things that Jim and his staff
had to look at over this weekend and address. So
(31:11):
I mean I'm going to overreact. I don't think that
Texas should drop, you know, too far the rank. If
you want to put them two instead of one, I
think that's fine. But the Skies are falling. But there's
definitely stuff to take them this weekend because they got
they got cut a lessons by the rage of backs,
and maybe that will help them out down the road, no.
Speaker 3 (31:29):
Doubt about it.
Speaker 1 (31:30):
There is Danny Davis of the Austin American Statesman. Make
sure you follow him at Underscore Danny Davis. Danny, we
look forward to talking.
Speaker 3 (31:39):
To you next week. Man, have a good week that deal.
Thank you. There is Danny Davis speaking of Texas baseball.
Speaker 1 (31:47):
We will hear from the vote Craig Way as he
broke down some of the things last night, and oh yeah,
you get a chance to win a pair of tickets.
Don't go anywhere right here on the morning kickoff on
sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone, good stuff by
Danny Davis of the Austin American Statesman breaking down Texas football,
and of course he talked a little bit about Texas
(32:08):
baseball as they got swept at Arkansas, but they came
home last night to take on Lamar and they got
the dub nine to three. But it wasn't without some struggle.
Texas ended up making its way through it. In the
fourth inning, Easton colt from the two to five folk
I played baseball with his dad and his dad got
(32:29):
drafted by Montreal as well. Got the party started for
Lamar with the single to left field. They end up
getting a run in that inning. He drives in the run.
He actually drove in two runs in that game. So
shout out to two, five, four. But it was the
Texas Longhorns and Casey Borba that had some good times.
Speaker 10 (32:56):
Here's a three to zero pitch way outside for Borba.
We'll get credit for an RBI, a basis loaded walk
trotting in from third to scores Jalen Flores and the
log Orangs now lead three to one.
Speaker 3 (33:09):
But that wasn't it.
Speaker 1 (33:10):
Borba came up again in a big time situation and
he got a big time home run.
Speaker 10 (33:17):
Out of the stratch. Josey Gerris pitch swung onto the ball,
hit it well out toward right back to the warning track.
You can say good night to it Apo Taco for
Casey Borbo over the right field wall and the log
Warns have some insurance.
Speaker 3 (33:32):
They now lead six to three.
Speaker 1 (33:34):
I got Craig Way with the oppo Taco as the
home run continued. Jonah Williams got an RBI earlier in
the ballgame, but Texas goes on to win nine to three.
Speaker 3 (33:45):
They have a big weekend coming up.
Speaker 1 (33:48):
Their last home series in the SEC will be against
the Florida Gators. But coach Slasnegel he was happy with
the result last night.
Speaker 10 (33:58):
It's time now for post king come versation when they
head coach Jim Slosnagle, Let's go down to the field
the Key Skippers. Sometimes there's ball games when you can't
really figure out what was happening.
Speaker 3 (34:07):
I couldn't figure out what was happening because couldn't get
a hit when we needed to. And then all of
a sudden they started getting hits.
Speaker 6 (34:12):
Yeah, would they walked at sixteen seventeen times? Yes, it's
a frustrating game. When we were taking VP today, the
wins howling out the right field and we hit. We
must have hit twenty home runs in VP the right
field like right handed hitters and then when they happen
and then the game came on, Galvan's ball would have
(34:33):
been a Grand slam, Farmer's ball would have been a
home run. And then when their guy comes up, the
wind dies and his ball gets out. But it was frustrating.
You know, we had so many base runners. We actually
only had that's those situations with one out two times.
Speaker 5 (34:50):
It was all.
Speaker 6 (34:51):
It was all, it was all two outs, bases loaded.
Like what's his name, Williams Jonah came up three times
with the bases loaded in two outs, right, so like
you're you're you're counting on timely hits. That could have
been a sixteen run game, but we didn't get that
marey many hits. So uh, frustrating night, But you know
we had we didn't have to use a bunch of
(35:11):
arms that we you know, trying to keep in the bullpen.
And Hamilton did a nice job. Ethan did a great job.
That's where I was gonna go. Yeah, came in throwing strikes.
Speaker 3 (35:19):
Man, what a what a fine he is?
Speaker 10 (35:21):
I mean just left hand or in a crucial situation,
he comes in, he gets you, he gets you six outs.
Speaker 6 (35:27):
Yeah, yeah, I throw strikes and you know you know,
sinks it just enough and I mean him and Bing.
You know, there's not not high end stuff, but he
is unique from his release slot and where he pitches
off the rubber. So Max has done a great job
as we we have, like we have the flu running
through our teams. So you know, we got guys out
(35:47):
because of sickness, guys out because of a little knick
knack here there.
Speaker 3 (35:51):
So this is overall really good Win, thanks for taking the.
Speaker 1 (35:55):
Time, Thanks keeping. And the thing about it is he
said it. You know, they had a sickness running through
the entire team. Ethan Mendoza didn't get a chance to play,
so it was interesting to see some of the guys
get their opportunities to be in the ballgame. You look
at what Jonah Williams, who's coming back from an injury.
Jonah went two for five, one of them was an
(36:16):
infield hit and he ends up scoring a run. But
Texas left sixteen guys on base yesterday, and as coach said,
most of the time they came up, they were in
scoring position.
Speaker 3 (36:28):
But it was not less than one out, two outs.
Speaker 2 (36:31):
You know, I don't understand because I'm not the baseball officionado,
but when you get guys on base, it seems like
you would try to just get a hit and not
try to take it to the house every time.
Speaker 3 (36:45):
Well, they're not.
Speaker 1 (36:45):
They're trying to give quality at bats. They're not trying
to hit the ball out of the ballpark. They're doing
what they're supposed to be doing. It's just situationally, those
at bats, you're not being able. You're in a two
out situation. If you have on out, it's a sacrifice fly,
but instead it's a third out if you have if
(37:05):
you have runners in scoring position and you hit a
ground ball and they gotta make a great play, it's
not an RBI situation for you. It is now the
third out. So there's times that they've come up to
bat in these situations. As he says, situationally, they're not
in a position to get them over get a million.
Speaker 3 (37:26):
Draft.
Speaker 1 (37:26):
You got to drop the ball into the gap and
try to get some runs across the play. But nonetheless,
Texas now thirty nine and eight on the season. They
are getting ready to take on the Florida Gators who
come in this weekend. Florida will come in Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
The first game will be six thirty Friday night. You
(37:48):
can watch that game on ESPN You Saturday and Sunday's
game will be on SEC Network Plus.
Speaker 3 (37:56):
So it's a huge, huge weekend for the.
Speaker 1 (37:59):
Texas long Horns as they finish out the regular season
for their final home weekend, and it's gonna be a fun,
fun time at the dish.
Speaker 3 (38:08):
Hopefully the weather.
Speaker 1 (38:09):
Even though yesterday you didn't think that they were gonna
be able to play baseball.
Speaker 3 (38:13):
They end up getting the game in after all that rain.
Speaker 1 (38:16):
That's why it's a beautiful thing to have a turf
in Austin, Texas, because if you didn't have that turf,
it would have been a rough, rough day.
Speaker 3 (38:25):
Situation.
Speaker 1 (38:26):
Absolutely, So we'll see what happens next and hopefully they'll
get everybody back in.
Speaker 3 (38:31):
The sickness will be done.
Speaker 1 (38:33):
But coming up next our number two, we'll talk some
more Texas football as things are starting to change when
it comes to the financial wealth. As long as things
stay the same, we know what it's all about. We'll
talk financials and we'll talk Cleveland Browns.
Speaker 3 (38:51):
What exactly are you doing?
Speaker 1 (38:53):
And oh yeah, there's some big news from the Dallas
Cowboys right here on the morning kickoff on Sports Radio
and teen hundred The Zone. Welcome back to the Morning Kickoff,
our number two of the Morning Kickoff right here on
Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.
Speaker 3 (39:12):
Mike Harballhard's world's.
Speaker 1 (39:14):
Strongest Man in WWE Hall of Famer, the Mark Henry
and of course Marcus behind the boards, and the Cowboys
make a splash move by making a trade for George Pickens.
We talk spoke about that Indiana Pacers win at the Buzzer.
Tyrese Halliburton says, keep calling me overrated. Golden State gets
(39:34):
a win, but it is with a loss as Steph
Curry gets hurt.
Speaker 3 (39:38):
We will see what happens there.
Speaker 1 (39:40):
And we also heard from Danny Davis and we talk
Texas baseball. Coming up in the next segment, we will
talk a lot about the Cleveland Browns. I know it's
a little bit different to talk about the Browns, but
they have a dilemma that I can't wait to try
to figure out. But right now, let's talk about the
Texas football team or tech Texas Athletic Department, excuse me,
(40:02):
and the fact that they are in the SEC for
the first time in Texas.
Speaker 3 (40:07):
Now is the top SEC revenue producer.
Speaker 1 (40:11):
For the year of twenty twenty four, Texas Athletics total
three excuse me, three hundred and thirty one point nine
million dollars in revenue. That is, for the twenty twenty
four year, it is the most profitable football program in
(40:32):
the SEC, and it breaks down like this. According to
the data compiled by Knight new House College Athletic Database,
Texas athletic department brought in like I said, three hundred
and thirty one point nine million dollars in revenue through
the fiscal year of twenty twenty four, while spending three
(40:55):
hundred and twenty seven million dollars for its twenty one
sports and five hundred and fifty eight student athletes. Texas
spent sixty five point seven million dollars on football, with
twenty two point nine of it going to the coaching salaries.
But that's no problem because they've also broke it down
(41:18):
to where the program brought in two hundred and four
point seven million dollars in football revenue. Listen to this,
No other SEC team eclipsed one hundred and fifty million
dollars in revenue, and inside Texas broke this down to
the point of five point two million dollars went to
(41:40):
the student athlete meals.
Speaker 3 (41:42):
Just on the meals, five point two million.
Speaker 1 (41:45):
Two point seven six million were listed as an excess
transfers back and positive net revenue presented excuse me generated
by the athletic department. They spent twenty five point three
million dollars in other expenses like equipment, marketing, spirit groups
and other miscellaneous items. They have so much money for
(42:10):
twenty twenty four. The added revenue is just unbelievable on
how much money they actually made. Twenty two point seven
they made in other revenue like programs, camps, concession parking, athletics,
restricted endowments, investments, incomes and in camps, sixty eight point
(42:31):
seven million in corporate sponsorships, advertising and licensing, one hundred
and thirty seven million in donor contributions, one point six
million in competition guarantees. And then of course they have
forty point seven million in conference and NCAA distributions, media rights,
(42:54):
and post football compensation for going into the postseason. And
here you go, folks, this is where you get a
little upset. Every time they made sixty zero point nine
million dollars in ticket sales. Nobody else The biggest thing
for me was nobody else got over one hundred and
(43:18):
fifty million dollars in revenue in the SEC.
Speaker 3 (43:21):
Not another team. Think about, think about all those teams.
Think about everybody should be happy. Everybody should be happy
when Texas comes to town.
Speaker 1 (43:32):
Uh, they are obviously with them ticket sales, right, so
they can they can bring their tickets.
Speaker 2 (43:38):
Then you tell me that when Texas played Vanderbilt that
they had tickets for low as eleven dollars?
Speaker 1 (43:46):
Was that basketball? Not for football, not for football, not
for football, not for football. It might have been basketball,
it might have been baseball.
Speaker 2 (43:53):
And then when Texas comes the tickets through the roof, yah, yeah,
oh yeah, they can charge whatever they want. Oh yeah,
So it was rather than everybody hate Texas, why not
show the love.
Speaker 3 (44:10):
Yeah, we have a lot of love. Talk.
Speaker 1 (44:12):
Yeah, you get into your emotional side. I mean that's
just the way it is. Sometimes it's okay, man, it's okay,
let it out, let it let it out, just let
it out. But yes, Texas has done an unbelievable job
of you know, people always talk about keeping up with
the Joneses, Well, Texas is the Joneses Jones and keeping
(44:34):
up with him is not an option, and that is
why people feel the way that they feel about the
University of Texas.
Speaker 3 (44:42):
The conversations that are always had.
Speaker 1 (44:44):
We were talking about what's going on with the athletic
department as far as what they're expected payouts are going
to be to forty million dollars up to forty million
dollars to their student athletes, and it's just it's a
little different area of financial windfall.
Speaker 3 (45:06):
Right, There's a lot going on when you start to think.
Speaker 2 (45:09):
About I like it when you started talking food, right,
we go four to five million dollars in food.
Speaker 1 (45:16):
Five point two million dollars went to student athlete meals.
Speaker 3 (45:20):
They are eating well on the forty acres. That's what
they always call it. The tank.
Speaker 1 (45:26):
They always say when you want to get something, need
you gotta go down to the tank.
Speaker 2 (45:29):
Oh man, lobster and shrimp man. Big, ain't a steaks delicious?
Speaker 10 (45:39):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (45:39):
That is a big time. That would be an awesome
recruiting deal for me.
Speaker 5 (45:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (45:46):
If I came here and they said, listen, we spend
five million dollars a year on the food for you guys. Yeah,
we want you to have the best of the best,
I would be like, where do I sign? It's unbelievable.
Speaker 1 (46:02):
I'm starting to look at the rest of the numbers
from all these other schools. Arkansas seventy two million, Auburn
one hundred and twenty one million, Florida one hundred million,
Georgia one hundred and thirty three million, Alabama one hundred
and forty million, oh Miss oh Miss seventy five million,
(46:24):
Kentucky fifty three million, Oklahoma one hundred and thirty one million,
UH South Carolina seventy eight million, Tennessee one hundred and
forty eight million, Texas A and M one hundred and
eighteen million, but Texas two hundred and four million dollars.
Speaker 3 (46:45):
I hate you. I hate you, I don't even know you,
and I hate your looks.
Speaker 1 (46:50):
In football revenue. Good Lord of Mike, Let's go Texas.
I mean as he says, he tries hold something. He
tries to do everything he possibly can to enhance the
athletes time at this university, giving them the best of
(47:11):
the best. We've been into the trophy area, the Hall
of Honor, hall of Fame area.
Speaker 3 (47:19):
Of Texas Athletics.
Speaker 1 (47:20):
You've seen that they bring coaches in when they sign,
when the coaches come and do their press conference as
the new coach. They want you in there so you
can see what it's all about. And the expectation moving
forward is even greater.
Speaker 2 (47:34):
You can you can ask for the best if you're
given the best, right And I don't think that there's
nothing wrong with you know, saying hey, this is who
we are, this is what we do, and this is
the way we want.
Speaker 3 (47:47):
To keep it.
Speaker 2 (47:48):
Yeah, like can you can you rise to that standard?
Because if you can, then you you're a part of this.
Speaker 3 (47:55):
Like I just I just love the fact that it's
double where everybody else is done. Yeah, Texas has.
Speaker 1 (48:02):
Done a really good job with building all of their
programs and as we talked about before, you start looking
across the athletic department football, basketball, baseball, volleyball, track and field,
men's and women's basketball, so you start looking at.
Speaker 3 (48:22):
All that rowing. I mean, they have done well, and
they presented themselves well and did really well man for
the first year.
Speaker 1 (48:32):
Absolutely, and that that goes back to my point of
what I was saying as far as if.
Speaker 3 (48:37):
You build it, they will come type of that, and
that is what is happening.
Speaker 1 (48:41):
They are building, Uh this program back to where it
used to beymnastics. No, he already said, you can forget that.
I've asked him, we we've asked him, text message, phone.
Speaker 3 (48:56):
Not happening. So I'm not going like they say, don't
ever say never.
Speaker 1 (49:03):
But the legacy he's here, I don't think you are
gonna see that on the University of Texas campus. Now,
they may have intramurals, they may create something like that,
but it's not the same. But yeah, you start looking
at all of the programs, softball being number one, baseball
being number one. Football at one point was number one,
(49:26):
women's basketball, number one track and field.
Speaker 3 (49:29):
The list goes on and on and on. And that's
why Texas.
Speaker 1 (49:32):
Has put themselves in this situation to where again, if
you build it, they will come.
Speaker 3 (49:38):
And people are excited about everything that's going on.
Speaker 2 (49:41):
You don't mention the swimming and diving. People are gonna
get aggravated, no doubt, no doubt. Like you have got
to mention that like they won. They won more than anybody.
Speaker 3 (49:51):
Oh for sure. They have always done that.
Speaker 1 (49:54):
And they replaced the goats, as Crystal Content calls them Yoda,
with another apprentice that could come in and win championships as.
Speaker 3 (50:03):
Well, Obi won. It just continues to do great, great things.
So it's an exciting time for sure.
Speaker 1 (50:12):
As we continue these conversations what is going on in Cleveland,
and I want to get Mark's take on a couple
things that were being said right here on the Morning
Kickoff right here on Sports Radio and thirteen hundred The Zone.
Welcome back to the Morning Kickoff right here on Sports
(50:34):
Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. And before we get
into the Cleveland Brown situation with all of their quarterbacks,
I want to give a shout out to Draft Kings.
DraftKings obviously is one of the most respected platforms that
you can get on to find a little wager. They
(50:54):
basically you can do pick six or you can do
a regular Draft Kings set up up. They've been a
great sponsor and if you would like for us the
Morning Kickoff to be a sponsor for you, we would
love love to be able to help you out.
Speaker 3 (51:09):
You can hit us up in.
Speaker 1 (51:11):
Our DMS at Harball Hart or you can hit up
Mark Henry at the Mark Henry. It has been a
special special time as well. In one of the Draft
Kings I'm sure will be played this year will be
the situation that is going on in Cleveland. The Cleveland
Browns have made moves during the draft and during the
(51:34):
offseason that kind of is very interesting to so many people.
Speaker 3 (51:39):
Let's just say it like that, when you look at.
Speaker 1 (51:42):
Their roster and you look at the quarterback position, it
becomes very interesting to see exactly what is going to happen. Obviously,
Deshaun Watson is still a major factor when it comes
to this organization. He pretty much had them locked and
loaded for quite some time. You also have you brought
(52:05):
back Joe Flacco. Joe Flacco, who played well listed as
the starter as of right now, ended up going to Indianapolis,
but coming back because of the success that he had
and probably because a lot of folks in that locker
room wanted them. You make a trade for Kenny Pickett
from Philadelphia, and now he is sitting there in that
(52:28):
locker room and thinking that he has a chance, and
he's a former first round pick. You drafted Dylan Gabriel
in the third round of this year's draft, and you
also drafted Shador Sanders in this year's draft in the
fifth round. So you have five quarterbacks and now you're
(52:51):
trying to figure out what is going to happen with
this circus. And the reason why I call it a
circus is just because of that you have. This is
part for the course when you think about what Cleveland does.
Cleveland goes out and makes all these different moves, but
yet are they making their team better? You re signed
(53:17):
Miles Garrett, you brought him back, so that's great, But
now you create this quarterback controversy in this locker room
that is going to have people talking just like we are.
But one of the guys that has a relationship, which
I'm kind of shocked they did not draft him, is
one Tom Brady.
Speaker 3 (53:36):
Tom Brady now with the.
Speaker 1 (53:39):
Las Vegas Raiders, part of the ownership group, did not
make a move. But here he is talking about Shador
Sanders and the fact that he slid in the draft.
Speaker 3 (53:52):
Elephant in the room should ar Sanders. What happened?
Speaker 6 (53:55):
Tom?
Speaker 3 (53:56):
Why did he go so late in the draft? And
here's I it's a good question.
Speaker 5 (54:05):
I was.
Speaker 3 (54:05):
I wouldn't have part of any evaluation process or.
Speaker 1 (54:10):
No.
Speaker 3 (54:10):
Well, everyone's got every you know.
Speaker 11 (54:12):
That's the problem with media is everyone can just say
whatever they want. I actually texted Shador because I know
him very well and I said, dude, like, whatever happens
wherever you go, Like that's your first day. Day two
matters more than the draft. I was one ninety nine. Yeah,
so who could speak on.
Speaker 3 (54:30):
It better than me? Like what that really means? Use
it as motivation. You're gonna get your chances. Go take
advantage of it.
Speaker 1 (54:36):
But if he does go in and he gets his chances,
by the way, he is wearing number twelve for the Browns,
But if he does get his chances, how are they
going to come about? Because they've got five quarterbacks on
the roster now. Obviously Deshaun Watson dealing with his achilles tear,
(54:58):
is not going to be on the field at this time.
Speaker 3 (55:01):
I get that, but he's.
Speaker 1 (55:03):
Still part of that locker room. He's still part of
that organization, and he's still going.
Speaker 3 (55:08):
To be around to try to be there.
Speaker 1 (55:12):
But you start to look and you try to understand
Joe Flacco is going to be the starter. And if
I'm Joe Flacco, aren't I getting the majority of the snaps?
Speaker 3 (55:24):
I would think?
Speaker 1 (55:24):
So if I'm Kenny Pickett, am I gonna be wanting
to share my Repsny Pickett earned.
Speaker 3 (55:34):
They made a trade for him. They traded for him
like that. He earned that.
Speaker 2 (55:40):
You're gonna acquire talent across the board. But if you
can't just because you gotta gave up a pick or
you paid somebody fifty million dollars, if you got some.
Speaker 1 (55:50):
Ask kirk Cousins. Just because they paid you money, don't
mean you're gonna play. He did, though kirk Cousins did play.
He did start, and then they drave and then they
him listed this year as the QB one. He's not
listed as QB one. He is not listed as QB one,
but they did sign him. He still is owed that money,
(56:11):
and he will get an opportunity to go somewhere else
to play.
Speaker 2 (56:15):
Where they can look at it like they wasted a
third round pick getting him, and they're gonna pay him
his money. It's not like it not gonna listen, Gabriel
is a baller. Shadeer is a baller. They're gonna go
in there with trying to win that.
Speaker 1 (56:34):
At that time, I believe every quarterback will go in
there and try to do Any player that goes into
camp believes that they're gonna win the job. But that's
not the reality of it, because eventually ownership has something
to say, right, who's going to end up being the starter?
But just for everybody to understand, Dylan Gabriel and Shador Sanders.
(56:57):
The Browns got two of the best quarterbacks in the draft.
And let me tell you why. Completion percentage seventy three
point four that's Shador Gabriel. Seventy two point three, passing
yardage four thousand, one hundred and thirty three that ranked fourth,
that's Shador. Dylan Gabriel, thirty eight fifty four touchdown to
(57:21):
interception ratio, thirty seven touchdowns for Shador, ten interceptions Gabriel,
thirty and six turnover third. He averaged one turnover in
the game and Dylan Gabriel averaged one turnover in the game.
Between these two quarterbacks, they're going to obviously be the
(57:43):
ones that are playing.
Speaker 3 (57:44):
For that backup job.
Speaker 1 (57:46):
Okay, that is going to try to figure out all
of these things to make sure that this is happening.
Speaker 2 (57:55):
So far, Kenny Pigott has made a living throwing into
the other team. I'm hard, I'm without any overthinking. I
don't think that he'll be with that team at the
end of preseason. Well, he'll be trade bait or somebody
will need a quarterback, and he'll be the one that's
(58:16):
gonna be dealt well.
Speaker 1 (58:18):
And I believe that he's gonna be the one that's
gonna be dealt anyway because he's not gonna want to
be in that situation. He wants to go somewhere where
he's given gonna be given a fair opportunity.
Speaker 3 (58:29):
But as of right now, he is still there. And
you can never have too many quarterbacks.
Speaker 1 (58:33):
Well, you might need to try to figure out what's
gonna happen because if you have that many, you don't
have any Because if that's gonna be the breakdown, I
definitely believe in that, because if you have one, if
you have one quarterback, you have your starter. Then you
need a quality backup. And that's what the Cowboys did.
They went and got a quality right back up. But
if you got three, four and five, what is that?
(58:56):
That is a way that is definitely something that's to
be changed. You don't need that many could.
Speaker 2 (59:02):
Look at Belichick always said that you should draft the
quarterback every cycle, whether it's the seventh pick or the
first pick, you need to draft one.
Speaker 1 (59:13):
And none of them got a chance to play because
their quarterback was Tom Brady and he wasn't giving up
those reps.
Speaker 3 (59:19):
If I was Tom Brady, I'd be like, hey, why
we using this exactly another weapon?
Speaker 2 (59:24):
But that's the way that that's not the philosophy what
Belichick and they won more games than everybody else combined
for the last ten to fifteen years.
Speaker 3 (59:34):
So I'm gonna go with what they said.
Speaker 1 (59:36):
Yeah, well, we will see how this all plays out,
because Cleveland is definitely a team that is being talked about.
They're definitely gonna be trying to figure out what's next
for them. They Jared Judy is their wide receiver. They
could have used one of them picks to go out
and get another wide receiver to upgrade their offense. They
did use some picks for running for the running backs,
(59:59):
but you still need to go out there and get
some better overall players because their defense is getting older.
So maybe they use some of that to make some
trades in these situations. But I will be paying attention
to Cleveland. Cleveland is definitely a team that a lot
of folks are going to be watching just because of
(01:00:21):
the storyline.
Speaker 3 (01:00:24):
With them.
Speaker 1 (01:00:25):
Yeah, that would definitely be one I will watch that.
That would be definitely one to watch. Coming up next,
we have the world's strongest man as he brings you
his world's strongest tank right here on the morning kickoff
on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred the Zone. You heard
the b drop, So that means one thing and one
(01:00:46):
thing only. W WE Hall of Famer and the world's
Strongest Mandeve Mark Henry brings you his world's strongest take.
Take it away, big fellow.
Speaker 3 (01:00:57):
All right, what's up man? You know what Timon is?
Speaker 2 (01:01:00):
Well, Thomas, it's time for the world's strongest take by
the world's strongest man. My guess back then they didn't
know me. Now I'm hot, they all on me. Today's
take it's kind of an apology along with my take yesterday.
(01:01:22):
I got a little emotional, I got in my feelings
and I really let the Cowboys have it. And for
all of those fans, I apologize for allowing myself to
to go off.
Speaker 3 (01:01:38):
But I'm I'm I'm human. Uh the Cowboys today.
Speaker 2 (01:01:47):
It made made a pretty good made a pretty good
pick in grabbing a wide receiver that can help see
the lamb, which is what we thought about all along
as our big flash acquisition as fans. As you notice,
I said hour because you know, my toe is my
(01:02:09):
toe is in the water. You know, I'm I'm, I'm
I'm not. I'm thinking and still thinking about boycotting. But
we got a couple more moves to be made. But
the whole point of the deal is the Cowboys have
led us astray as fans. The ownership has decided that
(01:02:31):
they want to make it more of a spectacle and
a show rather than a sporting franchise.
Speaker 3 (01:02:39):
And I like winning.
Speaker 2 (01:02:41):
I'm you know, I've been blessed to have a lot
of winning in my life. And I wanted the teams
that I followed the wind. It didn't always happen, but
I wanted it for my team. And the Cowboys are
fallen sharp and just look at it. You look at
the Eagles, you look at the the Washington Commanders. They've
(01:03:04):
upgraded the teams. They're winners now and we are not.
And I don't like it. There are a couple of
moves the Cowboys can make still, as Hart said earlier,
getting the power back like Chubb uh To to sign
on to Mary Cooper is still out there. I don't
(01:03:25):
know if I think that window may have passed. They
they they went against uh and they went out and
got a wide receiver to compliment ceed Lamb.
Speaker 3 (01:03:36):
The Worths was one of the.
Speaker 2 (01:03:39):
Best tackles that was in the NFL draft in the
last five years. And there was a guy that was
drafted before him, and that that guy, Jerk Willis, is
still out there and he didn't live up to the
standard of Tristian Worst, but nonetheless he was a top
(01:04:02):
ten pick. And you know, I think that the Cowboys
would benefit from having a guy that actually was drafted
in the top ten and played like played very well,
but just didn't play to the standard of a top
ten pick, and that would give uh, that would be
(01:04:25):
give Tyler Gydon another.
Speaker 3 (01:04:27):
Year to develop. So make the make the next couple
of moves.
Speaker 2 (01:04:32):
It's two players, get a tackle, get a running back
that's a power back that could just run downhill. They
they drafted the running back from Clemson whose six won
two twenty five pounds. But you know what, he's a
rookie and he is yet to be seen what he
(01:04:53):
and blue can do uh wearing the Blue and silver.
So my take is that they made a good move
and they're in the right direction, but I'm still not
all the way in what say you I'm.
Speaker 1 (01:05:12):
I'm confused, man, Like, why is it that you want
to get rid of everybody?
Speaker 3 (01:05:20):
I don't say you get rid of nobody.
Speaker 1 (01:05:21):
Well, Tyler Guid, how do you think he's going to
get better if he doesn't play like he.
Speaker 3 (01:05:28):
Has to play.
Speaker 1 (01:05:29):
He's a draft pick, he's a first round draft pick.
They're not moving off of him. They're giving him every
opportunity to be their first round draft pick. I just
we can't just keep giving up on people immediately or
trading them or getting rid of them or benching them.
Speaker 3 (01:05:50):
They have to play to develop.
Speaker 1 (01:05:52):
You're running an id program now for all Caribbean, right,
and it's going to feed into congratulations. By the way,
you if those guys aren't performing, how were they supposed to.
Speaker 3 (01:06:08):
He's not trading y'all yet.
Speaker 1 (01:06:09):
He's not trading y'all yet, but he is viewing others
to see if they could come in and take care
of this situation.
Speaker 3 (01:06:19):
So for me, man, I just I get where you're going.
Can I tell you? Can I tell you the number
one sticking point? All right? He played eleven games, he
started eleven games. He had nine.
Speaker 2 (01:06:38):
Penalties that were just fase start. Yep, he's got to
stay in his stands. He had four more holding penalties
in eleven games. Eleven games.
Speaker 3 (01:07:00):
The pienlities like they nullify the fact that he probably
killed like seven drives.
Speaker 1 (01:07:09):
The eight drives killed him and he and he punt
and he didn't learn from those like coming into this show.
I would hope I would hope you think that they're
not working on technique. You don't think that they went
in and looked at the film and said, hey man,
this is what's going on with you. This is what
we gotta work on now. This is your off season
playing and work ethic part of it to where you're
(01:07:31):
gonna get better starting right now.
Speaker 2 (01:07:34):
Because I respect you, I'm gonna go through this preseason
and I'm I'm gonna say, Okay, Hard I'm listening to
you through these four games all off season.
Speaker 3 (01:07:48):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (01:07:49):
He needed to play in all the preseason games, and
then I will I was if I see improvement, and
they they're streaming from the mountaintops, Wow, Tyler Gang has
got it.
Speaker 3 (01:08:03):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (01:08:04):
Then I'm just going to back away and go I
was wrong. But if not, there will be nobody in Austin.
There would be nobody in the state of Texas. Nobody
from Los Angeles to Bang going to Miami that is
going to be screaming let him go more than.
Speaker 3 (01:08:24):
Oh my god, you're already just getting rid of them.
It's just my saying thing.
Speaker 1 (01:08:29):
I see that, but I would say, wu sah, let
it happen and we'll see. Cowboys are making moves man
that we're not used to seeing. They went out and
created a roster that is going to be able to compete.
Speaker 3 (01:08:47):
It looks decent.
Speaker 1 (01:08:48):
They have drafted, they have traded, they have re signed.
The Cowboys have had a pretty decent off season.
Speaker 3 (01:08:57):
They have they have. Now I'm not the Super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (01:09:04):
I'm not said just mention it, but I'm looking at
what they have been able to do, and they have
done some pretty cool things.
Speaker 3 (01:09:15):
So we'll see what happens. I can't believe I just
said that.
Speaker 1 (01:09:19):
We'll come back close out the show, send you to
Dan Patrick. We'll preview what's going on tonight, and of
course give you the latest on the news from Dallas
right here on the morning kickoff on sports Radio AM
thirteen hundred The Zone.
Speaker 3 (01:09:36):
If you missed any part of the show, get over
to our podcast page and check us out.
Speaker 1 (01:09:43):
We try to do everything we possibly can to make
sure that y'all have a great, great time as always.
Speaker 3 (01:09:51):
And Mark, you got something you want to say, right?
Speaker 2 (01:09:53):
Yeah, Man, I want to send a shout out man
to myplace dot com. I already got mine in mind.
I can't wait to put it on paper just so
I can get that license plate as quick as I can.
What is yours going to be the strongest.
Speaker 3 (01:10:08):
Man giving up?
Speaker 1 (01:10:11):
Because I know somebody will go ahead and do it today. Yeah,
that's what they're supposed to do. And use that promo
code the zone all one word, the zone. Look at you,
look at you, as we talked about at the very
beginning of the show, we talked a lot about the
Dallas Cowboys making the trade. You just did your World's
(01:10:32):
Strongest taken again. If you missed any part of the show,
all you got to do is get over to the
podcast page on that new and improved iHeart Radio app,
check it out and make sure that all things are
good because the Cowboys are making major, major moves. So Mark,
I wanted to talk about this because last night in
(01:10:53):
the NBA, we talked a lot about what happened with Indiana.
We didn't talk much about the Minnesota Timberwolves and the
fact that they had a terrible, terrible basketball game last
night and now they get a chance to regroup, rethink
about this and get things done. But I want you
to hear from the coach, Coach Finch talking about Anthony Edwards,
(01:11:19):
demand the mint, the legend, the guy that is supposed
to change the fortunes of Minnesota, and how he had
a terrible, terrible start.
Speaker 5 (01:11:29):
You mentioned kind of the energy, the spirit starts with
ant Is that something that you and he talked about
maybe ahead of game two? Now?
Speaker 3 (01:11:35):
Is what is there to talk about?
Speaker 7 (01:11:37):
I mean, you're they're they're the leader of the team,
and you got to come out and set the tone.
You know in all ways that that happens, and if
it's if your shots not going like, you still have
to carry the.
Speaker 3 (01:11:50):
Energy, you know, So.
Speaker 7 (01:11:53):
You know, I don't I don't think there's you know,
if I got to talk to guys about having the
right energy coming into opening around game, opening the second
round game, and you.
Speaker 3 (01:12:04):
Know we're not you know, we're not on the same page.
Speaker 1 (01:12:07):
So yeah, definitely not on the same page. That's what
it's got to be like. But again, you start to
think okay, and what's the deal, man, what's going on
with you? Especially when the news comes out of their
three point shooting and lack thereof in the last two games.
Speaker 9 (01:12:25):
We's got the numbers that you guys, going twelve for
seventy six or the last two games is the worst
three point shooting in the history of the NBA playoffs.
And for a team that was fourth and three point
percentage in fifth, I think, yeah, they were that bad.
(01:12:45):
They are Yeah. Even they knew that. It was like,
oh man, I.
Speaker 1 (01:12:51):
Can't the worst ever ever ever Think about that, Think
about that and how bad it can possibly be. And
as you continue to look at it, you say, all right,
here's where we are. This is what it's all about.
But ant he's got to change the way he thinks.
He's got the great attitude about being able to get
(01:13:12):
out there, but he's got to talk and get on
his energy level because he did not look good at
the very beginning and starts.
Speaker 7 (01:13:19):
Anthony, you know, I thought he's was uh, you know,
he struggled early and then you could just kind of
see the light go out a little bit.
Speaker 3 (01:13:29):
For a while. Is that something that you and he
talked about me be ahead of Game two? Now is
I mean, what what is there to talk about? I mean,
you're you're a leader of the team, and you.
Speaker 1 (01:13:39):
Got you got to be able to go out there
and do that so energy language. Yes, yes, and that
was one of the things that we continue to look
at it. You you believe in it, you believe that
this is your leader. And I felt like I was
watching Wakanda forever. I thought I was watching it because
is that this your king? Is this your king? Is
(01:14:01):
this what you expect to see happen? So now what's
next for this team? Do they rebound? Do they come
back out? Because the thing about what we talked about
before is you cannot expect Rudy Gobert to bring you
twenty four and twenty nine.
Speaker 3 (01:14:18):
He played hard yesterday. He tried and you can tell
he was tired.
Speaker 1 (01:14:22):
And I think everybody on that court was tired. We
heard what Jimmy Butler said, STEP's our best player.
Speaker 3 (01:14:28):
We need him back.
Speaker 1 (01:14:29):
We need him back because Jimmy was tired because he
had to carry it. But you got great performance from
you got a great performance from Draymond.
Speaker 3 (01:14:40):
He was able to show out. So there's a lot
that needs to be desired for this team.
Speaker 1 (01:14:46):
I still look like they can come out there and win,
especially with the injury to what we've heard from from Steph.
But the other part of it, they've got to show
up and be a team that comes out fast and
brings energy at the very beginning.
Speaker 2 (01:15:00):
If I'm Anthony Edwards, I come out and try to
make a penance for my team. I'm trying to dunk
on everybody tried to dunk last night. I'm trying to
shoot and go to the basket. He has one of
the best euro steps since genobially, and he's more explosive
than genoballyp So.
Speaker 1 (01:15:19):
Go do what you're want to do. That's a big,
big time matchup for them. Tonight, We've got the Knicks
and the Celtics. The Knicks and the Celtics continue. The
Knicks get a steal, but as we talked about, they
missed forty five three pointers. I don't think that happens.
I think Boston wins the game tonight, and then we
(01:15:40):
finish off the nightcap with another great one the Nuggets
and the Thunder. Can the Thunder rebound and get the win.
Speaker 3 (01:15:48):
I don't know if that's gonna be a thing. Hard yep.
I think that the the Nuggets are.
Speaker 2 (01:16:00):
I think there's so one dimensional and luck has been
carrying them. You know, you're getting a lot out of
the other.
Speaker 3 (01:16:08):
Guys, and it's all been luck. I think they luck
run out tonight.
Speaker 1 (01:16:13):
Tonight, their luck runs out, all right for my man
Mark Henry, I'm harball Hart. Of course, we've got our
guy Marcus behind the boards.
Speaker 3 (01:16:21):
Will be better tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (01:16:22):
And make sure you tune in and tell five friends
to tell five friends that the morning kickoff is your
go to. We'll have Eric Henry of Horns twenty four
to seven. Just remember, don't believe everything you see, because
even salt looks like sugar.
Speaker 2 (01:16:36):
Peace,
