Speaker 1 (00:00):
Right now we have our guy, Deuce Vaughn running back
of the Dallas Cowboys. I've been working hard to getting
Deuce on the show and I'm just thankful that he
had the time to jump on with us. So, Duce,
how you doing this morning?
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Brother? Doing good?
Speaker 3 (00:14):
Man?
Speaker 4 (00:14):
I appreciate you y'all taking the time allowing me to
come on and speak. And I'm super excited for today.
Speaker 1 (00:19):
I love it. I love it. So Duce, let's get
it right into it. Because the story of you being
drafted by the Cowboys has been well documented. Now we
moved on past that. But I want to go back
to k State. KSE State, you showed out, bro. Every
time we got a chance to watch you play. We
kept saying, I hope the Cowboys get him. I hope
(00:41):
the Cowboys get him. Now the Cowboys got him. But
when you were at k State, you love playing against
the Texas Longhorns because you always found a way to
show out against them.
Speaker 3 (00:51):
Man.
Speaker 4 (00:52):
Uh, it was always a big time game whenever we
played against Texas, whether I was at home or or
down here back in Austin. You know, being from Austin,
it all was a little bit of a tripping my
shoulder for myself playing against UT and then I mean
it's just great ballplayers from the Texas Lawnhorse. Every time
you came on the football field, you need to have
to battle your butt off all game if you wanted
to try and win that football game. Unfortunately it went
(01:14):
on and three again fake, but it was always a battle.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
Man.
Speaker 4 (01:19):
It was some of my favorite games playing because of
the atmosphere and just how big of a game it was.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
So looking back, man, those are always good times.
Speaker 3 (01:27):
Dude.
Speaker 5 (01:27):
You you have your idea where you want to be, Like,
is there a specific style of running that you won't
do you run to run like zone read? Do you
want to run out of a kind of a spread
type of offense? What is the best design place for
your abilities?
Speaker 4 (01:48):
For myself, I feel like, despite size, despite my statue,
I've always been just a running back that can go
and playing any system.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
Uh Man. I prided myself on it in college.
Speaker 4 (02:00):
I worked my butt off on it for the past
two years here in the NFL, just to get better one.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
One day at a time, you know.
Speaker 4 (02:07):
And uh So, no matter what uh they call or
whatever scheme it is, Tony Powler would always say, Man,
you call it, I'll haul it, and that stuck with
me for for a very very long time. So, uh man, anything, Man,
I feel like I proble myself to be able to
run in between tackles outside because any running back that
wants to be great, you have to be able.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
To be versutile. Uh So, man, going into the training camp,
it's gonna be a big thing.
Speaker 6 (02:31):
That I would not only work on, but I'm gonna
strive to do, is just running inside outside, whether that
be counters, whether that be GT plays, whether that be
UH traps, whether that be power that'd be tosses to
the outside, perimeter schemes and stuff like that.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
Just to dive it into all of it.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
So there was a report that you have been kind
of cross training as a kind of a slot wide
receiver playing and running back obviously kickoff return, pump return,
but for you learning a little bit more or each
step of the way, that gives you a little bit
more versatility and more options.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
If I'm not mistaken correct.
Speaker 4 (03:06):
Absolutely, especially in this league, you won't be able to
do as much as possible special teams onto the football field.
I just help your team win whatever role that you
can find, and for myself, like like playing wide receiver.
Getting into that room and learn from some of those
guys in there and be able to do those things
outside of the backfield is another way to just add
value and help your team be successful. So whenever I
(03:29):
was approached with that, that's actually this past year and
a little bit more this year. Whenever I was approached
with that, man, I was I was down to do it.
Caught the ball a little bit at k State and
something I love to do. So whenever I was approached
with that, I was ready to go to work my
butt off that throughout OTAs and minie camping out through
the summer side of the camp next week.
Speaker 5 (03:49):
Dum, I'm I'm a fan now of coach Shatty and
everybody's saying, how this guy's done a lot. What is
the thing that you look at the most that he's
done that he's brought to this team that has changed
the focus and made the Cowboys quiet but also more
(04:10):
of a together team.
Speaker 4 (04:13):
Yeah, I'd say the communication, the love, the passion that
he has for this game, but also the passion he
has for the players. There's an energy in the building
whenever you walk inside of it that it's hard to
put into words.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
It's exactly how it makes you feel. Man.
Speaker 4 (04:28):
Every single day that you go into the building, you
know you can compete against your brothers, but you're also
gonna build a foundation and a bond together through fellowship,
through the things that we do in the meeting room,
through the things that we do on the football field,
the competing and the ping pong tables and the books
that we have inside, and you're able to really build
(04:48):
a foundation together and throughout many camp or OTAs. Them
bringing that energy him in the entire country staff and
only kept us engaged when we hit that football field, Man,
everybody's out there flying, having fun. And when it comes
down to man, we're playing the sport that we lost
with those little kids. So uh, for them to bring
that that type of energy, it's it's huge, man. So
(05:09):
I'm excited. I know that everybody's ready to go, and
I'm excited to the only thing that we can do now,
go out here and play some ball. Man.
Speaker 5 (05:16):
That's what we were saying, how are you doing in
all these competitions. I heard that there's so much team
building going on in competition. He was that that he
preaches compete, compete, compete, every day.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
What is what are you winning at?
Speaker 1 (05:30):
Like, don't tell us, Hey, look, don't fudge now, I
will find out.
Speaker 4 (05:35):
One thing I do is hop on that ping pong table. Man,
it's some competitives. I'll sit there. So I swear anytime
we go off in that locker room, we helping at
people on table immediately from from Micah to that uh
jy Ye Thomas is pretty good, uh man to Coacha
Chefley's got some games. We got a whole bunch of
dudes in there playing on that ping pong and we
had a little basketball free throw competition throughout just like
(05:59):
the Okay, I wasn't involved in that one, but.
Speaker 2 (06:05):
Uh Sam Williams end up winning that one.
Speaker 4 (06:06):
And uh it's just really big every single days to
come in and compete in a fun environment.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
Man, So we we we embrace all of it.
Speaker 5 (06:15):
Well, I'm I'm very proud of the fact that I'm
I'm I'm a lifetime Cowboy fan. And Michael Parsons reached
out to me a few months ago and he said, hey, uh,
big Mark, I found your illegitimate son. Uh Mosie Smith.
Do you do you think Mozzie looks like me?
Speaker 2 (06:37):
Hey?
Speaker 3 (06:38):
I do.
Speaker 5 (06:47):
Hey when when he told me, he said, listen, man,
you need to come and pay up on your child support.
Speaker 3 (06:53):
And I was like, man, stop it.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
Listen, man, you're both strong too. It's a lot of
similarities going on there.
Speaker 1 (06:59):
Man, we're talking to Deuce von Dallas Cowboy and Deuce.
You know you've been doing a lot coming back to
the community and doing some things. I know your father
Chris is doing some things with Anthony Williams and being
able to kind of help these kids understand what it's
like to get to the next level and the work
(07:20):
that needs to go into it. So, if you had
to give a kid advice about not only your stature,
but the work ethic that needs to go into it,
what would you say to a young man that is
trying to get to that next level.
Speaker 4 (07:32):
Yeah, the biggest thing I would say is it's going
to take a lot more sacrifice than you think. Let's
be able to going to do what you want to
do and be a do at a very high level.
Is the reason why there's only so many players that
play in the NFL and with so many people that
are If you want to be a CEO of a
company and things like that, there's a reason why some
(07:53):
people they're able to sacrifice and put these I guess
what's the word.
Speaker 2 (07:58):
I'm looking for these.
Speaker 4 (07:59):
Things and you can have right now to the side
understanding that's for the bigger picture.
Speaker 2 (08:04):
I have to be able to do these things and
be disciplined. Uh.
Speaker 4 (08:06):
And then of course the work as it has to
be through the roof anytime that I was in high school,
college and even getting to this level, my mantras being
a little bit of an undersized cat has been Man,
you got to be the toughest player on the football field.
You gotta be the hardest work in the way room,
and you gotta be the most diligent and most player
in the meeting room.
Speaker 2 (08:26):
And like, you have to do it every single day.
You can't miss the day. You don't have the.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
You don't have the luxury luxury to be.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
Able to say I'm gonna take today off. Don't have it.
Speaker 4 (08:40):
And now I mean I I literally every single day.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
That's how it will go about my business.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (08:46):
Just understanding that if I only give myself the best
chance to be able to be successful, I have to
be disciplined. You can some days you wake up not motivated.
Your discipline has to be greater than your motivation every
single day. You have to be ready sacrifice through those
times when you're in high school and kids want to
go to the pool and I got some work in crazy,
But man, you have to understand that I'm destined for
(09:09):
greater things. I held that close to my heart all
the way through k State, all the way through high school,
and uh, man, it's given me an opportunity to get
to this point.
Speaker 2 (09:19):
I'm continue to play the game that I love. Man,
So uh, I'm braced.
Speaker 1 (09:23):
Second, I appreciate that that's a that's a great message.
I wanted to ask you before we let you go. Man,
My god, Dak Prescott, My god, Dak Prescott.
Speaker 3 (09:31):
He is this guy.
Speaker 1 (09:32):
Yeah, he'd be taking those arrows from everybody. Man are
diving in front of him. I'm trying to take a
man because I know how I know. I feel like
I understand this dude's character. I understand that he is
team first. I know he got his money, but hey
got to get my money. I'n't been hurt. I broke
my leg and I told my hamstring, run me my money.
(09:53):
But him as an individual, what is it about Dak
Prescott that makes him so special and I'm you look,
you told Kay Adams I could be on.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
Here for an hour. We're talking about Dak.
Speaker 1 (10:04):
But what is it in the simple form of Dak Prescott.
Speaker 4 (10:08):
Yeah, everybody sees the player that Dak is unbelievable talent,
But inside that locker room and inside that huddle, he's
a cat that instills confidence and every single player inside
that huddle because of his leadership.
Speaker 2 (10:22):
It was about his business.
Speaker 4 (10:24):
When I talk about discipline, you see it every single
day from Dak Prescott talk about doing it right and
putting himself.
Speaker 2 (10:32):
In the repositions to be successful every single day.
Speaker 4 (10:35):
It's motivation for not only myself and everybody inside the
building because of the way that four moves and as
a quarterback and as a leader of a football team, man,
he is.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
The guy that is what you want and your leader.
Speaker 4 (10:47):
Whenever that player he's on the side of the stadium
is a reason why you know. And man, I'm super
excited for this camp because I feel like injured this
past year, so it's hard to really be like, uh
oh man the year before.
Speaker 2 (11:04):
I mean that he was an MVP candidate.
Speaker 4 (11:08):
That's the type of player that he is and man,
I'm super excited for this upcoming year, just because, like
I was saying, that person that he is man like,
I mean even this summer, like when we talk about
building a connection as a football team and we talk
about building a community in a brotherhood.
Speaker 2 (11:22):
He's been at the forefront.
Speaker 4 (11:23):
He's been the guy that's been uh, he's been after
he's been the driver seat.
Speaker 2 (11:27):
Uh excited man.
Speaker 4 (11:29):
He's brought us together not only an offense, but as
a team and super excarded to compete next to him
during this campaign.
Speaker 3 (11:36):
Uh into Seaton.
Speaker 1 (11:37):
I appreciate it, man, Thank you so much for taking
the time, and I know that you you have a
lot of fans in this area.
Speaker 3 (11:45):
You got him in the in this.
Speaker 1 (11:46):
Studio studio, and we'll continue to pull for you.
Speaker 3 (11:49):
Brother.
Speaker 1 (11:49):
Well, thank you for taking the time. And tell your
mom and dad I said, what up.
Speaker 2 (11:52):
Well, dude, man, I appreciate y'all.
Speaker 1 (11:54):
Appreciate you, brother, Right Dallas cowboy dudes, vond
