Speaker 1 (00:00):
But right now we're gonna talk Ryder Cup. As it
is important to understand that this former Texas Longhorn participant,
he is a professional golfer. He also does pick a ball.
He's one heck of an athlete. Because we've had conversations
about this before. He is Dylan for Tilly as he
(00:20):
joins us right now on the morning kickoff on sports
Radio AM thirteen hundred the song good morning Dylan.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
Hey, Dylan, you there.
Speaker 3 (00:35):
I'm here, but I don't seem to be on the
right audio. Have you got me?
Speaker 1 (00:39):
Yeah, we got you, So don't worry about it. We're
gonna keep you on the phone right now because we
got you on the phone. So I wanted to introduce
you and let people know that you are a Longhorn.
But everybody talks about golf and I'm gonna get into
the Ryder Cup, but I want you to tell everybody
about your pick a ball escapades because the last time
I got a chance to hang out with you, you were
really into this pickle.
Speaker 4 (01:01):
Yeah I am. I still am. I'm getting old that Mike,
and I'm realizing I need to take it easy on
the pickaball because my golf career is actually more important,
but see little injuries pumping up to a little bit
of extra pickaball action.
Speaker 3 (01:13):
But I love it.
Speaker 4 (01:14):
It's a great sport and get out on the court,
meet some other people and stay active and work on
different planes. Jumping and moving golfers is sober and you
do the same thing over and over again, and my
buddy needs a little bit of extra stimula. So that's
what I love about pickleball.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
Well, the funny thing is, you know, you said it perfectly.
You're like, I love pickleball, but the golf is the
most important part of this for me to be able
to play pickleball. So you want to make sure that
you stay sharp on the golf course. And speaking of
the golf course, it's a big weekend for both the
European team and of course the USA team as the
(01:49):
Ryder Cup kicks off tomorrow and the competition between the
two groups is obviously going to be top conversation. But
when you look at these players and you've got an
opportunity to play against all of these guys, it is
an interesting and eclectic group of participants this year for
(02:10):
both sides.
Speaker 4 (02:12):
Yeah, it's always interesting when you have picks involved. I
would rather have a team that has maybe ten guys
make the team straight up and have two picks. But yeah,
I think both teams went for their old, tried and
tested guys that have played a lot of President's Cup
Ryder Cups, and you never know how that's going to
work out. Can you always want the best team the
guys playing the best in the moment. But I think
(02:32):
both teams have left out one or two guys who
might be in better form. So I think you should
be looking at the pairings going a little narrow. I'll
say like maybe eight or nine guys will play most
of the matches on the first two day and then
on Sunday, you obviously have twelve matches where everyone has
to play, so there's no hiding there. You've got one
point on each match and you've got to try and
(02:53):
find a way to get those points.
Speaker 5 (02:56):
How do you decide on who goes first or who
goes those against who.
Speaker 4 (03:02):
There's a whole lot of psychology in that, and I
think most teams now they lean on the statistics rather
they try and look at, Okay, what pairings are our strongest.
We're going to put out our strongest pairings early on
Friday to try and get some points on the board
and build some confidence, get the crowd behind us. But
there's many ways to do it. Some guys like to
hold the better players for the back. Some like to
(03:23):
put likes for like players together. Guys that hit long drives,
they put them together. All they go, well, we deciphered
the golf course. We need to drive off number twelve
really well. But then on seven, nine and eleven we
need some of that puts really well. So there's all
these different series and you just got to back yourself
up and hope that the guys can respond on the course.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
So, Dylan, I wanted to ask you this because, by
the way, make sure y'all get over and follow him
on his golf channel on YouTube, and it's Dylan Fertilly Golf.
He has got all kinds of different things that he's
doing on there. These are some what do you call them,
some short clips, some long clip, an hour show.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
You have variations of.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
The show, So make sure you follow that and I'll
make sure to plug it by the end of this.
Speaker 5 (04:08):
Is there anything that teaches you how to keep it
from going in the woods?
Speaker 4 (04:13):
Well, getting that instructional stuff coming up most of it's
about my travels in Europe. I'm playing the deep world too,
so South Africa.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
Europe, Asia.
Speaker 4 (04:23):
I got cool little behind the scene things while I'm
on to it.
Speaker 3 (04:25):
But we'll get you.
Speaker 4 (04:27):
We might even have you on an episode.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
Mark.
Speaker 4 (04:28):
We can do a full deeptive and fix your golf
game if you want, Man.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
Come on, man hard you want to do it, I'm
definitely in a chance. You don't get a chance to
hang out with a pro. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
Speaking of that, Dylan, I want you to tell Mark
about your time with the Undertaker his good friend.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
Oh man, you guys might like this.
Speaker 4 (04:53):
I'm not known for my comedy, but I went to
NASCAR at Cota, so we got Nascar in a cinema.
This first time I've done this is great and lucky.
I was in one of the sweets, had a good
experience and I walked into the restroom and who's this.
I know this guy? Oh my gosh, that's the Undertaker
six foot seven, six foot eight. I'm a skinny South
African guy, but I grew up watching him. You as well,
(05:15):
I grew up watching you guys. I'm like, this is amazing.
I'm starstruck. I don't know what to do, but I'm like,
I need to say something. So he was busy washing
his hands after he's in this in the restroom and
I'm like, hey, man, big big fan, You're huge in
South Africa. Like I love you, man, And I was like,
I don't know what's gonna happen. The guy gonna beat
me up in the bathroom. I'm like, I'm scared. I mean,
(05:37):
Mark Callaway, the Undertaker, honestly then, nicest man I've ever met.
He turned around and he was like, hey, it's nice
to meet your son.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
Where are you from.
Speaker 4 (05:44):
We got we chatted for like half an hour, probably
went back into the suite, and you want to know
this Mark. The crazy thing is he learnt his wrestling
in South Africa his first two three years. He said,
I went to South Africa and those guys took me
under their wing and they taught me how to so
and how to get all the stage cross done.
Speaker 3 (06:02):
And I was blown away with how.
Speaker 4 (06:04):
My smock is.
Speaker 5 (06:05):
Some of my some of my greatest memories are actually
South wrestaurant. I'm very good friends with PJ. Black, who
his father ran the wrestling probably where Undertaker cut his
teeth and I just loved it down there. I always
always had great experience. I told my wife that we
we have to go to South Africa at some point.
Speaker 4 (06:27):
Yeah, you should.
Speaker 3 (06:27):
I love it.
Speaker 4 (06:28):
It's a great country vacation, Safari, all that stuff.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
Teleon.
Speaker 4 (06:32):
At least one.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
Fan of the Safari said, Safari, that kind of cuts us.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
Out three hours. I don't know three hours.
Speaker 1 (06:43):
I ain't even worried about the three hours. I'm worried
about the three animals. That's what I'm worried.
Speaker 5 (06:51):
There are certain animals that are familiar with the cars
and they'll jump up on the hood.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
I don't need that and just go for I don't
need an ornament. L I'm not exagerating.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
I'm not I'm not getting an ornament on top of
the ornament. You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
He don't need to be up there. Hey, a little
p came out. I'm not gonna lie. So, Dylan, I
wanted to ask you to.
Speaker 1 (07:18):
I mean, you know, looking at the landscape of golf,
and I think you and I have talked about this
because the last time we were together, I think it
was when liv was just now starting, and now all
of this stuff is kind of kind of calmed down
a little bit. I don't think there's so much animosity
because they seem to be working together.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
You're still grabbing guys that.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
Are part of Live to be a part of the
Ryder Cup on both sides. But it needed to happen
because it changed the way certain things were being done
in golf. And now it seems like everybody's back on
the same playing field.
Speaker 4 (07:53):
They suddenly are. There's still just some animosity between the
guys that left the establishment the pg GP will to
and the guys that are trying to now come back.
So PJ Tour players have lost money because they see it.
Speaker 3 (08:07):
The a's losing money. They've had these big.
Speaker 4 (08:09):
Contracts come their way and they said, now I'm minister
to the PJA two, I'm not going to go to
Live and they're almost we're not back together yet. We're
not in unison. We're not gonna walk stride and tried
because I lost out on money.
Speaker 3 (08:21):
You made a bunch of money.
Speaker 4 (08:22):
And it's just still back and forth stuff whereby there's
a separateur on list at the turn the PJA Tour.
But now you're seeing lot come mingling with the Rider
Cup this week with some other majors and things with
guys the player has always got along. It's most of
the administrators that the agent. So you know all these
guys that get in there and start playing politics. So
that's still going on in the behind the scenes. But
(08:44):
maybe in a year or two you can have a
conversation with everybody all together again.
Speaker 2 (08:48):
Can we all just get along? But let me borrow
some money.
Speaker 1 (08:54):
I do want to get I do want to get
your thoughts on the Ryder Cup as it all starts
to play out.
Speaker 2 (09:00):
Who do you see winning the Ryder Cup.
Speaker 4 (09:05):
It's a tough one. I think this is one of
our most even Ryder Cups. I'm playing on the deep
world to us, so I see a lot of those
players in and out each week. If I had to
lean towards my guts pulling me to Europe, to be honest,
but you get the New York crowd involved, and if
some of those guys start getting shaky.
Speaker 3 (09:23):
Knees and worried about the guy behind them.
Speaker 4 (09:26):
Saying some stuff, I think the US could pull it through.
But I think Sunday Singles basically look at the Sunday
Singles score and that's going to decide.
Speaker 1 (09:33):
You will now And the funny thing about it is
a lot of people were talking about those prices in
New York and the beer prices there. There might not
be that many people that are in taking the beverages
because they are way out there in the prices.
Speaker 5 (09:47):
But what's the estimate, Like, I mean, give me an
idea of what is expensive?
Speaker 3 (09:51):
Oh beer?
Speaker 1 (09:52):
It was the beer was twelve dollars or sixteen dollars
for one before for one Yeah, yeah, it's it's pretty steep, right,
And don't I did see.
Speaker 4 (10:01):
Something yesterday though, Mike free food. I saw burgers and
savages and snacks and stuff. So Mark, it seems like
you would get your money back there.
Speaker 5 (10:10):
That's because they want you thirsty, that's true, and they
probably put a lot of salt.
Speaker 2 (10:15):
On that food.
Speaker 1 (10:17):
Yeah, So tell everybody where to find you and what
you got coming up next.
Speaker 3 (10:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (10:23):
So Dylan for Teddy Golf, as you mentioned as my
YouTube channel, traveling the world, playing the Deep World too.
Speaker 3 (10:27):
I go back to South Africa pretty often.
Speaker 4 (10:29):
So just trying to expand that part of my media
brand and get people behind the scenes. Not many golfers
show you what happens behind the scenes, so I'm trying
to show everybody what the tour life is like.
Speaker 3 (10:40):
Get you out there.
Speaker 4 (10:41):
I'm on Instagram as well, not too active, but live
in Austin, Texas. To Hanna spoke South Africa. So if
you guys ever Senior want to come to a tournament,
hit me up on Instagram and always happy to interact
with my fans.
Speaker 1 (10:52):
Well, you make sure that when you get back you
get me a mark out there for your YouTube.
Speaker 3 (10:56):
And oh, we're going to do it.
Speaker 2 (10:58):
Mark King's telling me how far he can hit it.
Speaker 4 (11:01):
I can hit it.
Speaker 5 (11:01):
I can hit it far and straight, but I can't
put and I can't pitch. If I get in the
ref or in the woods, might as well drop.
Speaker 4 (11:10):
It, all right, you can get you on the straight
and narrow.
Speaker 2 (11:16):
I love it. I love it.
Speaker 1 (11:17):
And then we'll go see our guy over at Golffinnity
and and talk to him too, so we'll have a
good time no matter what. I appreciate you, Dylan, thanks
for getting up with us, and we'll have you.
Speaker 2 (11:27):
On the life and catch ups.
Speaker 4 (11:31):
Thanks for having me, all right, I appreciate you.
Speaker 2 (11:34):
There.
Speaker 1 (11:34):
He is dyling fertility. He is hilarious. He's a great
he's a great athlete. We've had some real conversations about
some of the things he was doing in South Africa.
Speaker 2 (11:45):
He's he's a guy. He's a guy. Oh Man, Yeah,
I like him a lot
