and of course myself and a couple of special guests

stopping by. Norman Watkins will be stopping by. We're trying

(03:25):
to get Tommy Harris to come over there because I
found this out yesterday. Mark Well, I found this out
during the summer, but I thought it was gonna change
my boy Barrett, who is the owner and proprietor of
bar W And thank you again Bart for having us
over there one more time. But during the summer I
came up here and everything started changing real fast.

Speaker 3 (03:47):
I was like, what's going on with your spot man?

Speaker 1 (03:49):
And as the summer continued to go on, I found
out that the o Blahoma Sooners Booma Sooners have taken
over that are They took it over last year, remember,
but now it's full blown. They got signage. Yeah, they
got signage. I took a picture with a Sooner to

(04:13):
yesterday and I thought a camera bro I thought, not
because of me, of course, but all because it was
that Crimson. And I told everybody. I said, y'all are
gonna be in for a real tree. I said, get
over to our social media. I said, get to our
social media and check this out. Yeah, they're gonna be
very disappointed in this skewed take that we have about

(04:35):
this weekend. No, they're gonna have a skewed take about
you and how you have been all week long. You're
disdain I have a security. Yeah, the crimson and cream
is not your color. But your son just happens to
play for the Oklahoma Sooners and you still sleeping on
the couch mark because I'm just happy to be on roads,

(05:00):
sleeping in bed. But it is going to be a
fun time. This is what it's all about. I mean, uh,
this is intense, man. It's getting closer and closer to
game time.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
Are you nervous? Did you have you ever had an
anxiety attack about it?

Speaker 4 (05:16):
Yet?

Speaker 1 (05:16):
I've never had an anxiety attack because I have no
control over the outcome.

Speaker 3 (05:19):
But I am in a point No, but.

Speaker 1 (05:21):
I have a nervous feeling like this, Lord, I don't
need that in your life.

Speaker 3 (05:25):
No, I'm talking about like when I'm getting ready to compete.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
I used to always get this, Okay, do you have
your socks?

Speaker 2 (05:32):
You have everything? Do you have your your chalk? Did
you like all of my my brain process? Is what
I'm about to do. I'm doing that and I'm not playing.
That was about to be my point. So it's it's
it's I can't imagine how these guys are feeling right now.
I mean, I know what it is, but still like

(05:52):
I'm an old guy. My heart don't need this right well,
not only that, does your heart not need it. It's
not part of the conversation no more. Man, you're not
You can't line up like you used to.

Speaker 3 (06:04):
Mark, Let it go, Man, let it go.

Speaker 1 (06:07):
This is hey, take the wheel because this ain't nothing
knocking Lord to take the wheel, because there is nothing
that we can do except for talk about what's gonna happen,
what we see happening, the strengths and the weaknesses and
everything else that goes along with it. Because this is
what it's all about. You're gonna hear it later today

(06:30):
with all the players that'll come by and join the show.
These guys have participated in this deal.

Speaker 2 (06:36):
Yeah, I gotta I got a question for you. I
wanted to see how you felt about material being upgraded
to probable.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
I'm glad you said that because Jeometerier, Oklahoma quarterback, has
been dealing with an injury. He had hand surgery. I
think it was now month ago, eighteen days ago actually,
and you start to look at this, You've broken your hand.

Speaker 3 (07:01):
I've broken my hand.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
I've had to go through some therapy and all kinds
of stuff, and I understand that it's all mental, right,
But here's the deal. The mental part of this is
one part of it. The physical is the other. And
the fact if it was my or his left hand,

(07:24):
I could see him coming back a little bit sooner
because you can pad it up, you can do all the.

Speaker 3 (07:28):
Things that you want to do.

Speaker 1 (07:30):
But as a right handed quarterback, this is a tough,
tough move for him. And I'm not talking about, oh,
I'm tough, light it up, let's go, Noah. This is
a tough move and a desperate move if you ask
me for Oklahoma, because of the fact that you're putting
him in a position that I'm not sure most people

(07:52):
can go through a broken hand where you had to
go in and have surgery because it wasn't like they
just went and fixed some ligaments or something.

Speaker 3 (08:01):
This was broken.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
And now you're gonna try to get this dude to
come back. And if I've been saying it all week,
if I'm the Texas defense, every time this dude drops
back runs does anything with the football, I'm hitting that hand.

Speaker 3 (08:18):
It's not dirty.

Speaker 1 (08:19):
It's part you see and you see people punching at
the ball all the time. We've been talking about it
all season long. So now you're putting this guy in
a position.

Speaker 3 (08:30):
To endure pain without any provaigation.

Speaker 1 (08:36):
And not only that, Mark, not only that, you're putting
yourself in a place where you know as well as
I do, a turnover in this ball game changes the
swing of momentum immensely. So I'm glad you brought this
conversation to the table because this is something that looking

(08:57):
at Oklahoma fans and talking to them.

Speaker 3 (09:00):
Yesterday, they think that this is the savior.

Speaker 1 (09:04):
And I'm like, y'all, do understand that this dude broke
his throwing hand.

Speaker 2 (09:08):
I told you from the beginning that he's gonna play
in this game.

Speaker 1 (09:12):
You did because this is you might have some inside sources. No,
I don't have any inside sources.

Speaker 2 (09:18):
Hard Just because I have one of my family members
over there does not mean like he keeps information away
from me like he does the enemy.

Speaker 1 (09:31):
I'm the I'm the media. I'm not just dad.

Speaker 3 (09:37):
No, Jacob. Jacob's nitching.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
But he He's like, mom, if I tell you something,
you can't tell them.

Speaker 3 (09:46):
I told you, man, they are anti.

Speaker 1 (09:49):
Meh Man, this is drawing a line between our family.

Speaker 3 (09:53):
Are you Are you.

Speaker 1 (09:54):
Gonna be good on Sunday because the game would be over. Yeah,
you could be a family member again Sunday. I'm just
you know, maybe I just slide in bed and go
to sleep and see if I don't get kicked. I
do want to make this little announcement too, because y'all
know that we have a special relationship with LFG Catering

(10:16):
and our girl Keimmy has been is an Oklahoma Sooner fan,
and we have a little wager that is out there
right now.

Speaker 3 (10:28):
Well, you gotta, you gotta explain.

Speaker 1 (10:29):
I'm yeah, LFG Catering, she's the one that brings us
breakfast tacosday. But I want y'all to understand this. She
reached out to Mark and I and asked for uh,
we're not gonna say gentlemen's and the wager turned out

(10:51):
to be if Oklahoma wins, Mark and I have to
take a pie to the face, a pie that she's
gonna bake. By the way, but the luxurious thing is
when Texas wins, we get a.

Speaker 3 (11:06):
Pot of our.

Speaker 1 (11:10):
So we have a lot riding on this game.

Speaker 3 (11:13):
I'm trying to figure out where the loss is. Its
either we win, we win it I get.

Speaker 1 (11:22):
We're just getting started here on a feel good football
Friday road tripping edition of the Morning Kickoff right here
on Sports Radio. When we come back, we'll hear from
coach Sark. We'll also check out some of the key
games of the weekend. We've got a busy, busy day
today on the Morning Kickoff right here on Sports Radio
AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Welcome back to the Morning

(11:45):
Kickoff right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.
Coming up at eight o'clock, we will have Ann Parker
Coleman of CAVU joining us to talk about the Friday
night matchups and of course this big rivalry game. We
also have lifetime Longhorn Nathan Vasher joining us on the
show as well, because Nate had a big, big, big

(12:10):
couple games here in the Red River Rivalry.

Speaker 3 (12:13):
Mark Henry, Oh, yes he did.

Speaker 2 (12:15):
I'm I'm sitting here a little aggravated hard Why because
I went to Silsby and my brother got inducted into
the Wall of Honor congratulations Pat. And I stopped to
get a lineup and the barber in Sylsby, I told him,
I say, man like I like my beard full. Just

(12:37):
don't go down too far. What did he do? He
went down far? Now you can see my dimples, and
I don't like it. You don't want people to see
your dimple. No, I fought hard over like, guys with
dimples ain't cool.

Speaker 1 (12:52):
What do you see? A girl with dimples is cute?
A guy ain't supposed to be cute.

Speaker 3 (12:57):
Never. First off, if the ladies like.

Speaker 1 (13:01):
You with ladies, nobody never told me, oh, you got
nice dimples.

Speaker 3 (13:06):
Never. That's because you weren't Mark Henry at that point.

Speaker 1 (13:09):
Now you are what you're talking about. Now you're Mark Henry.
Now you're Mark Henry sexual chocolate.

Speaker 3 (13:19):
Yeah, my following their social media at the Mark Henry.

Speaker 2 (13:24):
My kids want me to shave my beard because they
saw pictures of me when I.

Speaker 3 (13:28):
Was a kid.

Speaker 1 (13:28):
Because you was cute, right, you were a cute little
baby you Wow.

Speaker 3 (13:32):
Yeah, you know what, man, Let's talk about sports. Let's
let's finally get back into it. And by the way,
congratulations to your brother.

Speaker 1 (13:39):
That's a that's a big honor because you know, not
everybody can be recognized as a person of that caliber.
And you did a good job of posting and celebrating him.
On your social media. So congratulations to the Henry family.
I want to get into this conversation because coach Stark
met with the media yesterday and here is his opening

(14:01):
statement as the last time before they get ready to
take on Oklahoma, you know.

Speaker 5 (14:07):
Getting closer to the game obviously, and you know what
a special week this is. You know, people always ask
is that business as usual when you come to games
like this?

Speaker 3 (14:18):
And I say, no, it's not. You know you you
you come.

Speaker 5 (14:21):
To games like this and especially this one in particular
in the Red River rivalry, UH and and all that
it encompasses from a rivalry standpoint, It's not business as usual.
You know that there's there's so much that that goes
into this game for both schools and then obviously for us,
you know, coming off of last week UH in SEC play,
stubbing our toe in Florida, stubbing our toe at Florida, UH,

(14:43):
starting conference play at zero and one, this is a
very significant game, UH as it pertains to the SEC race.
And so this is not a business as usual week.
And I think we could feel that at practice. The
level of intensity, UH, the sense of urgency of which
everybody's been off braiding players, coaches, everybody involved. You could
feel that, and I think that's a good thing. I

(15:05):
think that's what's needed. This week gets a really quality opponent.

Speaker 1 (15:09):
Know you and o you as that team, as he said,
a quality opponent that has uh has really really made
some things happen.

Speaker 2 (15:18):
Do you think that since the urgency came from the
fact that they so called stubbed their toe in swamp
or that it's just Texas, Oh you weekend and the
we joke around with the hat feels in mccors and
the you know, that's not a joke.

Speaker 3 (15:37):
It's not a joke.

Speaker 1 (15:38):
Like I remember a time Harden in the nineties where
they the reason that they said that it's not no
longer considered the Red River rivalry or the shootout is
because there were actual shootouts right right. People were fighting.
It was ridiculous. Oh it's still like that. It's still I.

Speaker 2 (15:59):
Hope people have a little bit more couthe and and
and respect for each other because Oklahoma is under football should.

Speaker 3 (16:07):
Be the only control violence this weekend.

Speaker 1 (16:11):
Well, it's funny that you bring that up about the
sense of urgency, because coach Sark was asked if he
felt a sense of urgency or anger from the players.

Speaker 3 (16:20):
Yeah, I mean, I definitely since.

Speaker 5 (16:24):
A level of I guess frustration in the fact of
that they just we we just haven't put it all
together yet. Uh, and everybody wants to put it all together.
Everybody's working really hard. It's it's not about our habits
and working hard, but I think it's playing with a
sense of confidence too that we can and and the players,

(16:44):
like I said, this week in practice, it's it hasn't
been business as usual. You can feel that that sense
of urgency. You can feel that level of intensity at practice,
which I think this game, regardless of how we were playing,
that's needed when you go into this game, but in
particular for us of where we're at in the stage
of the season, I think it's needed as well. So,

(17:06):
like I said, I credit the coaches for for you know,
shaping the mindset of the team at their particular position groups,
and I think all encompassing. I think there's a common
thread of man, let's let's go play our brand, our
style of football. Let's put our best foot forward and
see if it's good enough.

Speaker 1 (17:23):
And one of the biggest stories that came out of
last weekend was the fact that Jack Gibson baby Ryano
as you will, well, he didn't get a carry in
the ball game. Going back home and getting a chance
and play in front of family and friends, and he
didn't get a chance to play in the ballgame, and
Coach Sark was asked about why did he not get
a chance to play.

Speaker 3 (17:44):
Definitely was a flow of the game.

Speaker 5 (17:46):
You know, the game did clearly last week did not
go the way we had intended. You know, Jeric is
our short yardage back and we just we didn't have
any short yardage opportunities first of all, so he would
have been the first guy in it.

Speaker 3 (17:58):
If that would have that would have been called the on.
And then you know, I think at the end of the.

Speaker 5 (18:03):
Day, we evaluate the guys week in and week out
of where they're at, and you know, different style of
runs are better for certain players.

Speaker 3 (18:11):
And in last week's ball game, you know, we.

Speaker 5 (18:13):
Really felt that that the strength of Florida was their
their interior defensive lineman. Granted we probably didn't get enough
credit to all of their defensive front. They were really
good and we didn't play great. Uh, and then when
it turns into you know, a pass happy game and
you're throwing the ball. Sometimes you got to have your
your receiving tight backs and you're pass protecting backs out
there to make those plays. But you know, hopefully it's

(18:36):
a good sign of jerrick'son there more this week. That's
a good sign for us. So hopefully he gets some
more opportunities.

Speaker 1 (18:41):
The only thing that I disagree with is there was
an opportunity early in the game to have him in there.

Speaker 3 (18:47):
You could have put him in there earlier in the game.

Speaker 1 (18:49):
So I understand how he felt about the flow of
the game and the way things were going, but you
can also make sure that that young man gets a
chance to play in front of family and friends as
a fly.

Speaker 3 (19:00):
Or the kid going back to your hometown and not be.

Speaker 1 (19:02):
Able to get a touch, that's you got to be
better at that at the beginning of the game.

Speaker 2 (19:08):
I don't care how that's kind of thing that I'll
make a kid reconsidered, whether or not they're in the
right place.

Speaker 3 (19:12):
Think about that, Think about that, Think about.

Speaker 1 (19:15):
The fact that this game is going to be This
game was played in your hometown. Your hometown, you're from Gainesville,
your family, friends, mom was being interviewed by all the
local reporters in Austin.

Speaker 3 (19:29):
She got a chance to talk about you.

Speaker 2 (19:31):
Know how families members came to the game because they
wanted to see him.

Speaker 1 (19:36):
You can't get him a carry early in the ball
game before the game gets to where you can't use him.
Come on, man, you can't. You can't tell me that.
You can't tell man. Well, to me, it felt disrespected.
I felt disrespected for him because he's your leading rusher
up until that point. But the starter came back, and
you know when the starter comes back, but your starter

(19:59):
is still deemed up. You saw him at one point
grab his hamstring again during the game.

Speaker 3 (20:06):
That's true.

Speaker 1 (20:06):
So like you could not find a way early in
the ball game. Not saying that he's got to play
the first series, nobody saying that. But there wasn't a
spot where we were third and short and you couldn't
get him in the game. Yeah, find a way. You
gotta find a way. And especially like you said, there
are Florida kids that are on this team. That's not

(20:28):
a pity play. He was your leading rusher going into
the ball game.

Speaker 3 (20:31):
True. It's not like, oh, well, we just got to
get him in.

Speaker 1 (20:34):
He's playing in the front of No, he's an integral
part of the success of this team, and.

Speaker 2 (20:38):
I think that Texas would have been better. Usually when
Jared comes in, they go more to a pistol, they
go more to two tight ends when he's in the game. Like,
I think that would have been the change of pace
that Texas needed to help with the blocking them.

Speaker 3 (20:54):
Come on, man, you got two big tight ends in there.

Speaker 1 (20:57):
They got one six seven, two fifty something and then
injuries is also like close.

Speaker 3 (21:03):
To two hundred and sixty five and he breaks tackle, Like,
put those guys in there. Man. Well do you know what, Man,
we're all to the new game. That's a whole news. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (21:12):
Yeah, we're in Dallas. Yeah yeah, we're getting ready. Don't
get me worked up. Look at what you did, my bad, man,
Look what you did?

Speaker 3 (21:20):
My bad, My bad.

Speaker 1 (21:22):
We're going to continue the conversation because there's some more
to there this whole thing. We're gonna find out about
what the offensive line was able to do this week
and did they have a come to Jesus meeting. It's
all coming up next in the Hard Knox life right
here on Sports Talk Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.

(21:42):
Welcome back to the morning kickoff right here on Sports Ray,
the Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred, The Zone, Mike Harball,
Haards World Strongest Man, d Mark Henry and of course

We've got our guy Cam Parker on the road making
sure that we're sounding good.

Speaker 3 (21:59):
Make sure you make your plans.

Speaker 3 (22:14):

Speaker 1 (22:16):
We need all the Longhorn fans that we could possibly get. Clearly,
I found out that my Boy's bar is a sooner bar,
and it's a sooner bar, but they don't have they
don't get their party started till late. So make sure
that you come over and hang out with us. And
of course come and hang with us on the fair
grounds tomorrow starting at eleven thirty, as we will be

(22:37):
live at the Old mill in. I heard Craig Way
say that he had a date there one time back
in the day with his new wife and they had
dinner at the Old mill End, which is kind of
crazy when you think about it, we're left of if
you're if you're if Big Texas behind you, if you're
standing by Big Text, just go to the left. If

(22:58):
you're facing Big Text, go to the right. We will
be there starting at eleven thirty with some special.

Speaker 3 (23:04):
We're at his we're at Big Texas left hand.

Speaker 1 (23:07):
If you're if Big Texas behind you, if you're facing
Big Text, go to the right.

Speaker 2 (23:15):
His left hand is still his left hand. No, his
left hand would be pointing to the right if you're
facing it, but it's still his left hand.

Speaker 1 (23:24):
Tomato, tomato, however you want to hold you know, Marcus, Yeah, yeah, Marcus,
don't kiss up to the teacher.

Speaker 3 (23:35):
Hey, thank you for the apple, kid, thank you.

Speaker 1 (23:38):
But I want to continue the conversation. But Mark is
correct his left hand. Whatever you want to do, however
you want to look at him, whatever.

Speaker 3 (23:46):
You want to say.

Speaker 1 (23:47):
But I do want to make sure that everybody comes
out and hangs out with us, because we're gonna have
a good time. You're gonna have a good time, guys.
We already having a good time. Marcus gonna try to
every food that is possibly there.

Speaker 3 (23:57):
Yuys, y'all need to be there to see this.

Speaker 2 (23:59):
Yeah, because last year, I left there sleepy well. I
had a corn dog. I had uh the fried oreos.
I had a fried twinkie. You just had fried. I
had a lot of fry flast year.

Speaker 1 (24:14):
But I did not get a turkey leg last year.
And I did not get the candy apple or popcorn ball.
Those are the those are things that I wanted to try. Cornball,
a popcorn ball. Oh my god, let's see what they
have this year. We're gonna look at it. Cam has
got the menu.

Speaker 3 (24:33):
So now that the menu for here. That's the menu
for here. Oh hard, stop correcting me, because I need
some food from here. That's the next thing. CAM is
gonna give us a report later on in the show.

Speaker 1 (24:45):
Yeah, we can do that. We'll do it in the
next segment. We'll do it in the next segment. But
right now, I want to I want you to hear
from coach Sark because one of the biggest things that
we were talking about as well was the old line,
how did they do in practice and what you've seen
this week does give you confidence that this team is
gonna be ready to go?

Speaker 5 (25:03):
Well, I think they practiced really well. I think we've
got a good plan. I think they understand that plan.
I think they're they're playing fast, they're playing confident, they're
playing physical.

Speaker 3 (25:12):
You know, I always, you know, a lot of the
old line.

Speaker 5 (25:15):
I judge when we get into our team run periods
are good on good team run periods, and that's both
sides of the ball, because that's when it's really full
speed and we're rolling, and are we blocking people? Are
we getting off blocks? And we double teaming guys? Are
we getting off double teams? Which, like I said a
week ago, I felt like was an issue on both
sides of the ball.

Speaker 3 (25:34):
Coming out of that game.

Speaker 5 (25:35):
I didn't think we obviously weren't great up front of offense,
but we got moved around way too much for my
liking of what we're accustomed to around here on the
defensive side of the ball.

Speaker 3 (25:44):
So definitely point of emphasis.

Speaker 5 (25:46):
All signs point to we're in a much better space
this week than we were last week.

Speaker 3 (25:52):
But again, we have to go out and perform.

Speaker 6 (25:53):
We have to go do that on Saturday.

Speaker 3 (25:57):
Yeah. I like the way that that sounded. He did
a great job.

Speaker 1 (25:59):
And then the biggest conversation that we've had its entire
time was the fact that did you have to have
a come to Jesus' meeting with the team, and Coach
Stark kind of set the record straight on that.

Speaker 5 (26:13):
I think more importantly, the come to Jesus meeting kind
of happened on Monday morning at our good, bad and ugly.
I don't think I needed to have another one that
might have been a little redundant. But I also you know,
when you point out the penalties in the game, you
know one on defense. You know, we had another hands
to the face penalty. This time it happened to be

(26:33):
for Michael taff on defense, which you know, unintended. You know,
sometimes that can happen. You know, where I think we
need to improve is some of the self inflicted wounds
on the offensive side of the ball, and whether the
the pre snat penalties, whether it's knowing when to let
go of somebody that you're blocking, especially when you're on
an edge, because that's when the officials can see them best.

(26:55):
And if you think about some of the holding penalties
we've gotten this year, a lot of them have been
on the edge. Both of them last week we're on
the edge, one by a tackle, one by a tight end.

Speaker 3 (27:02):
And so it's it's.

Speaker 5 (27:04):
Playing the game and understanding where the ball's going and
when it's time to let go of somebody that you
don't get to hold, and generally that's when holdings occur.
We need to be better in that aspect of the game.
So they come to Jesus. Really occurred Monday. I didn't
I didn't think I needed to have another one hards.

Speaker 2 (27:22):
My thing is the line shift and line calls the
offensive line, defensive line. Either they're not studying enough or
they need to simplify.

Speaker 3 (27:32):
And there was a.

Speaker 2 (27:33):
Point when we had a guy that just I don't
know if he didn't want to study or he just.

Speaker 1 (27:40):
Couldn't get it. He was can't get right. Everybody knows
got that one can't get right? You know that's me,
and they know it's not you. You pretty sound.

Speaker 7 (27:49):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (27:49):
I learned a lot from you things. But we whenever
the line.

Speaker 2 (27:54):
Would shift, they would say Richard if it's a right shift,
and if it was a left we said Louis. So
our center would say Richard, Richard, Richard. And we knew
that because we were running to the.

Speaker 1 (28:09):
Right that everybody went one man over, like simplify things
like it's not hard, it's not rocket science. You just
got to study. Hey man, what's the line called for?
When they shift?

Speaker 3 (28:23):
Richard?

Speaker 2 (28:24):
Okay, now we're on the same page. And then sometimes
you got to tell people just Richard man, Richard right, like,
I mean.

Speaker 3 (28:34):
Like and follow up, catch up.

Speaker 2 (28:37):
But but but that takes That's why freshmen don't normally
do well in football, right, because they don't know all
the line calls.

Speaker 3 (28:44):
They don't know the coverage.

Speaker 2 (28:46):
You can't see, Hey, the mic is close to the
line of scrimmage. Guard, you get the mic because he's
close to the line of scrimmage.

Speaker 3 (28:53):
He's off, you get the line. Like.

Speaker 1 (28:56):
You got to teach this stuff. Whatever is doing they
have not been doing that well. I totally agree with
four games, Yeah, c plus at best.

Speaker 3 (29:08):
No, I mean you being gracious, and I'm being gracious.
You being gracious.

Speaker 1 (29:11):
You know. The funny thing about it is and you
did make it very understandable about the simplification of it all.
And I keep going back to this, and I've talked
to numerous people. I think we underestimated the fact that
we had a Jake Majors.

Speaker 3 (29:24):
On that line that could be able to take care
of you. He's been around.

Speaker 1 (29:27):
Probably the most important laws that takes exactly, and it
goes back to what you were talking about the experience
part of it being somebody that can get you right
when you can't get right.

Speaker 3 (29:38):
He's got you.

Speaker 1 (29:38):
Covered because he understands and Arch can't do it yet,
not yet. He's still learning. He's still learning, and we're
gonna hear from Arch a little bit later. We can
also hear from Hero Canoe about I mean, Hero yeah Canoe,
about being ready for this rivalry and.

Speaker 3 (29:52):
What it means to him.

Speaker 1 (29:54):
So we're going to continue these conversations last night. I
have to give credit where credit is due, and my
man Mark Henry has been telling me this for a
while and I gotta tip my cap.

Speaker 3 (30:04):
To him for the first time, for the first time
ever right here on Man Right, Feel Good.

Speaker 1 (30:10):
Friday edition of the Morning Kickoff on Sports Radio AM
thirteen hundred The Zone. Now's your chance to win a
family four pack.

Speaker 3 (30:19):
That's right to go see the Texas Stars.

Speaker 1 (30:21):
Tonight and the Grand Rapids Griffins tonight at the HGB Center.
All you gotta do is tap that red microphone, use
that iHeartRadio app, get over to AM thirteen hundred The Zone,
and leave.

Speaker 7 (30:33):
The keyword today as mask Mask is your keyword of
the day to win a pair of four pack excuse me,
a four pack of tickets to go check.

Speaker 1 (30:46):
Out the Austin Stars or Texas Stars as they get
ready to get this season started. All right, Mark, I
want to get into this because last night I gotta
give you respect where respects do. Last night, the Philadelphia
go into the Meadowlands and or East Rutherford and get
smacked around by the New York Giants behind Jackson Dark

(31:09):
and of course Cam Scattaboo. Cam Scattaboo with three touchdowns yesterday,
and he is full of energy. And Mark, you said
I would have loved for the Cowboys to draft that guy.
The Cowboys didn't, the Giants did, and now he and
Jackson Dark have become the kids in New York that

(31:30):
turn up the party.

Speaker 3 (31:31):
Energy and toughness. Yeah, you need energy.

Speaker 2 (31:35):
There's always an energize rabbit guy and you need him
on your team. And the guy that everybody's like, man,
Cam Crazy.

Speaker 3 (31:44):
Did you see him take your shirt off and ripped
it off? He didn't take it off?

Speaker 1 (31:50):
And and every time that you show him, he looks
at the camera, sticks his tongue out and go, yeah,
he's crazy And He's gonna be a wrestler at some point.

Speaker 8 (32:01):
Bro.

Speaker 1 (32:02):
I said that from the look at you, you're alright
with me. He needs to learn win football after about
three or four years and Henry up and come to
Bro wrestling. He'll make so much money and he'll be
able to do it for twenty years. He's about as
tall as Ray Mysterio. Though, Hey, I don't care if
he verted in challenge. That dude is exciting. When he

(32:23):
played against Texas, he.

Speaker 3 (32:25):
Called a touchdown, he ran a touchdown.

Speaker 1 (32:29):
He threw a thirty five yard pass. He was like,
he took over the game in Texas. By the grace
of God, they won the game. Hallelujah, hallelujah. Yeah, but
Harde it was almost a herculean effort that he put
out there. It was pretty dark.

Speaker 2 (32:47):
And I'm telling you, like, why don't my team draft
the people that I suggest? Because I'm not saying I'm
always right, because I'm not.

Speaker 3 (32:58):
But for the most of the time that's very true.
I am right. I told you, I told you can't
tell me exactly.

Speaker 1 (33:10):
Exactly, but you know what, as I as I look
at this and and looking yeah, man, I mean sometimes
I got it. It hurts, but sometimes you got to
make sure you do it because you've earned that respect.
Because this is what I've seen the entire time. It's
it's a team that is rallying behind their quarterback and

(33:31):
their running back. Did you see Brian Dayball yesterday when
when Jackson Dark had to go into the tent and
and and uh Russell Wilson had to go into the game.
He was losing his mind because he needed his quarterback.
He was arguing with the team doctor on the sideline
because he wanted his quarterback back in the game.

Speaker 3 (33:52):
Did you see what happened to him?

Speaker 1 (33:54):
Though, Yes, he got smacked, but it wasn't a hit
that that that did it.

Speaker 3 (33:58):
It was his land.

Speaker 1 (34:00):
Yes, his chin strapped landed on another guy's knee that
was already on the ground. Yeah, and it was like
hits that you're not expecting. It was like an upper cut.
It hit him right under the chin.

Speaker 3 (34:11):
Oh man, that could have been a concussion. I hope
it's not.

Speaker 1 (34:15):
Well if it was, he went back in the game
and finished the game.

Speaker 3 (34:19):
So they will be under suspicion.

Speaker 1 (34:21):
And they will get fine exactly, But yeah, they are.
They are a dangerous, dangerous football team. When you can
get your quarterback like that ready to go. And of
course Cam Scattabou who has taken over, he's like touchdowns,
He's like Davito, Remember da Vito.

Speaker 2 (34:39):
Yeah, he's going to become a New York legend if
he can really get it together.

Speaker 1 (34:44):
Scott Vanpel asked him after the game. He was like,
you and Jackson dar Man, I bet you y'all. Just
y'all are the kings of the city right now. He's like,
all I do is play video games when I go
home because I'm locked into football.

Speaker 3 (34:56):
I don't I don't care about any of that.

Speaker 1 (34:58):
I got the off season for that. Those are the
types of people that you know, prows that are ready
and willing to go the extra mile for what his
team needs of him.

Speaker 3 (35:10):
All he wants to do is win. What else do
the Giants need?

Speaker 2 (35:14):
The Giants need a wide receiver, a dominant number one
wide receiver. And there's somebody out there well that wants
to be traded that what are you thinking of Aj Brown?
If you put Aj Brown on the Giants or the Ravens,
like he becomes a star for them.

Speaker 3 (35:33):
They Yeah, there's there's no change them.

Speaker 1 (35:37):
Division robbers both of those teams are going to have
a high draft pick.

Speaker 3 (35:43):
So if you say, hey.

Speaker 1 (35:44):
Wait, wait, wait wait, are you talking about for next
year or are you talking I'm talking about this season, how
are they going to have a high draft pick because
both of them are gonna be probable.

Speaker 3 (35:53):
Well, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (35:54):
The Ravens are not gonna be better than eight and
eight this year.

Speaker 3 (35:58):
Yeah, I think their season is I think they're done.

Speaker 1 (36:01):
And the Giants are gonna be the basement team in
the East. They will not make the playoffs. So you
get look at eight and eight for them too, So
you get their draft pick and you get a middle
of the middle of the draft pick in the first
round next season. And I know it's early to be
talking about next season, but that's the harsh reality of sports.

Speaker 3 (36:27):
You have guys that want to be traded.

Speaker 2 (36:29):
All of this stuff is going on right now about
Giannis Andre Takoumpo, and the teams are making moves right
now because they think that Giannis is not going to
play for the Bucks next season.

Speaker 3 (36:42):
So everybody's making all of these moves.

Speaker 1 (36:45):
You don't think that's you don't think that's Gianna's trying
to get more money or trying to you.

Speaker 2 (36:48):
It's not he made enough money. Money is not the
thing he wants to win. He's very competitive. He said, listen,
I'm giving.

Speaker 1 (36:57):
Y'all every opportunity at the Bucks to do was right
by me and bringing in uh Texas long Hart great.
Uh what's my guy's name for?

Speaker 2 (37:13):
Who for the paper for the Milwaukee Bucks that came
from the Pacers.

Speaker 3 (37:19):
Miles Turner.

Speaker 2 (37:21):
They got Miles. They got Miles Turning now to help out.
But that's this season is not They're not gonna be Houston.
They're not gonna be Dallas. You know, they're not gonna
be in New York. You don't think they have enough
for that. I think I love Miles Tucker, but he's
not gonna be that guy. But let'sten, Let's the whole
point of this conversation is A. J.

Speaker 1 (37:43):
Brown is a guy that needs to go. He needs
to go, I don't think. Yeah, and how Roachman wants assets,
Yeah he does.

Speaker 3 (37:52):
He does a great job. Yeah, he does a great
job with that. He said.

Speaker 1 (37:55):
All I want to do is I'm here because I
don't want to get fined.

Speaker 3 (37:59):
That's what he said last night.

Speaker 1 (38:01):
Coming up next, we'll talk to Ann Parker Coleman of KVU.

Speaker 3 (38:06):
She'll talk about talk about.

Speaker 1 (38:08):
Friday night Lights and of course this huge, huge matchup
in Dallas. The Red River Rivalry kicks off at two
thirty and you can hear all the action right here
on Sports Radio AM thirteen.

Speaker 3 (38:19):
Hundred The Zone.

Speaker 1 (38:22):
Welcome back to our number two of the morning kickoff
right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.

Speaker 3 (38:28):
We are coming to you.

Speaker 1 (38:29):
Live from Dallas, Texas, as we are ready for the
Red River Rivalry special shout out to my great friends
over at the Yellow Rose for providing us the travel accommodations,
and of course I want to thank Covert Huddle, Covert
Ford and Huddle for making sure that I got here
in style.

Speaker 3 (38:50):
Mark Henry Gon ride with me today.

Speaker 1 (38:52):
But joining us right now is our girl and Parker Coleman.

Speaker 3 (38:57):
As we get ready for a.

Speaker 1 (39:00):
Big, big weekend, not only in the high school ranks,
but of course the big matchup between Texas and Oklahoma.
AP you were this is your second Red River Rivalry,
correct it is?

Speaker 3 (39:14):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (39:15):
Wait, guys, hold on, we can't bypass this. Did y'all
get interest on?

Speaker 1 (39:19):
No, it's always been like that. Your time is a
little bit different.

Speaker 3 (39:24):
You're upgraded.

Speaker 1 (39:27):
Yeah, I moved it to eight o'clock, so you got
you got to get up a little bit earlier to
be able to hear the introus ms Parker.

Speaker 3 (39:34):
I'm afraid.

Speaker 2 (39:36):
I'm afraid today because I'm riding with Mario Andretti. I
don't know how much you are up on driving and
race car drivers, but I drove seventy five miles an
hour last year and hard was like.

Speaker 1 (39:54):
Come on in drug, I said, I'm going seventy five Speedland.

Speaker 9 (40:00):
Covert of Huddle sponsors him. Okay, he's fine. He can
do no wrong that you get.

Speaker 1 (40:06):
So that's okay to go ninety what you want? Okay,
all right, well you ride with him. I'm over there.

Speaker 6 (40:16):
I do.

Speaker 9 (40:16):
I ride down with Emos in our little cave U
super real, So we don't probably have the horse power
that you guys do. But I'm telling you that guy,
I mean, Cory, is a little bit of a crazy driver.

Speaker 6 (40:28):
He's from Houston. So the track.

Speaker 3 (40:31):
I get caught sick.

Speaker 1 (40:33):
I told him, I told him take him that we'll
be there soon enough.

Speaker 9 (40:36):
Just take him that that's what I that's what I
need to do tomorrow.

Speaker 6 (40:39):
But I don't think I'm gonna be doing that because
I'm not gonna lie, y'all.

Speaker 9 (40:43):
I'm I'm a little I'm a little stressed for the games,
so I'm a little nervous.

Speaker 3 (40:47):
I am too. I'm nervous.

Speaker 2 (40:49):
I told Hart when we started the show, like, I
feel like like a tightness of anxiety.

Speaker 9 (40:55):
Yeah, And it's not because I mean, it's a rivalry game.
You always want to win, and this this is one
of those rivalry games where it's it's fifty to fifty.
Any year, it doesn't really matter who's having the better year.
It always just kind of comes down to who's the
more physical team. But this year it is especially in
nerve wracking because it's it's not just bragging, right so

(41:17):
that you're gonna lose.

Speaker 6 (41:18):
If Texas loses.

Speaker 9 (41:19):
Tomorrow, you CEFP, you're playing for pride the rest away,
Like it's pretty much done if you lose tomorrow.

Speaker 6 (41:26):
So it's just a lot of added pressure.

Speaker 1 (41:30):
So we've been having this conversation about the offensive line.
Obviously that is the topic that everybody is really sticking on.
But you know, at this particular moment, the player's got
to make some plays. So if you had to have
one person that or or a group if you had
a group that you feel needs to go above and
beyond for Texas to win this game, which group would

(41:52):
that be?

Speaker 6 (41:54):
Yeah, it be the old line.

Speaker 9 (41:56):
I think that when you look at the run game,
when you look at Ars, like a lot of these
glaring issues that Texas has had from the beginning.

Speaker 6 (42:04):
Red zone too.

Speaker 9 (42:05):
It Yeah, red zone is a little bit more play calling, maybe,
but it all kind of stems from the O line
and it's it's it's extra alarming too because you had
so many non conference games at home where you.

Speaker 6 (42:23):
Should have figured it out.

Speaker 9 (42:24):
You should have figured out which combinations they should have
gelled together and everything. All these tidy little uh you know,
flinchy missteps before the snap should have even itself out.
And I can give some grace for the fact that
playing at the Swamp playing into Shoe are really really
tough places to play, really loud places to play. But

(42:47):
I mean when you look back at the Swamp, they
didn't have any penalties until or maybe they had one,
but the penalties really became an issue in the second
half when you should be settled down.

Speaker 8 (42:57):
Uh.

Speaker 6 (42:58):
That's my my.

Speaker 9 (42:58):
Biggest kitserve for sure is a lot, and I think
if you took a poll, I think a lot of
people will probably say that unless somebody from the athletic
and they say church fanning a.

Speaker 3 (43:09):
P I'm I'm under the.

Speaker 2 (43:13):
Under the understanding that Texas is being very predictable too,
and and that that goes back into what you just
said with play calling. Uh, when Jared Gibson comes in,
they run pistols, so you know they're gonna run the
ball more when they go to a spread situation, when

(43:33):
when Wisner or Clark is in there, like it's predictable
what kind of running game that they're going to have,
And I don't I don't understand like what is needed
to do. I have my idea, but I don't understand
what they're doing. Like there's it's really not a continuity

(43:55):
in the running game and the past game because everything.

Speaker 3 (44:00):
Very predictable about the people that are in it.

Speaker 9 (44:03):
Yeah, and even when you start kind of goes into
his bag and gets out some trip plays like that
double pass.

Speaker 6 (44:08):
We've we've seen that before.

Speaker 9 (44:09):
We've seen that for a couple of years and just
in different ways. And it's so interesting that we're even
having this conversation because I feel like Sarka has always
just been known as, you know, this genius play caller,
and this is the first season now that he's.

Speaker 6 (44:26):
Really come under fire. I mean he's got on fire,
I guess.

Speaker 9 (44:28):
For some of the red zone calls obviously last year
in the CFP, but like now in the regular season.

Speaker 6 (44:36):
To be having this conversation is one that I didn't
think that we would be having.

Speaker 3 (44:41):
Yeah, I didn't expect it.

Speaker 1 (44:42):
Yeah, a lot of people are looking at we're talking
to Anne Parker Coleman of CAVEU. Make sure you check
her out, as they will bring in Friday Night Fever
as well tonight. But the most important part about this
is this Red River rivalry that will take place tomorrow
at two thirty. You can hear all the action right
here sports Radio AM thirteen hundred to Zone with the
voice of the Texas Longhorns, Craig Way. But I wanted

(45:06):
to ask you, you know you we've talked about the
offensive line, but if you had to pick a player
that needs to show out, not named arch Manning, not
named arch Manning, who would be a guy either offensively
or defensively that we expect a lot from tomorrow.

Speaker 6 (45:23):
Okay, not named arch Manning. I would go.

Speaker 9 (45:30):
I think I'll go with Emmett Moseley, And that's kind
of an interesting answer because we've only seen him in
one game, But I just feel like you could see some.

Speaker 6 (45:40):
Flashes last week at Florida.

Speaker 9 (45:43):
We know he's a really good route runner, good blocker two,
but we really haven't seen him get super involved in
the past game. I know one of those like walk
in touchdowns was just overthrown to him, so he is.

Speaker 6 (45:57):
I just don't feel like we've been able to.

Speaker 9 (45:59):
See the full extent of what he can do, and
I want to see it.

Speaker 3 (46:06):
I like that. I like it too.

Speaker 1 (46:08):
How about defensively, who do you need to see step up?
I've said either Anthony Hill or Leango Lafal are two
guys that are going to be an integral part because
of what they do with the quarterback running.

Speaker 9 (46:20):
Yeah, I would also say Colin Simmons. I know that
he had a much better game at flour There was
one drive that was completely three and out that was
completely made of Colin Simmons tackles. But I also feel
like sitting on the field, I saw a lot of
missed opportunities where he was one on one.

Speaker 6 (46:37):
With the guy could have gotten to the quarterback and
he did it.

Speaker 9 (46:40):
And because he did so well last year, he talked
at a big game this year, Like I have higher
expectations for him than I do for most people. And
if it wasn't for arch Manning in the conversation around him,
I think we would be having a much bigger conversation
about Colin Simmons and the fact that he hasn't delivered

(47:02):
this season. I really want him to get back to
what he was last year because he just hasn't lived
up to I think what any of us thought. And again,
I can't trust this enuff. We would be talking about.

Speaker 6 (47:15):
That more than we are like that.

Speaker 2 (47:17):
And I really do think that the two defensive tackles
need to step up. They got pushed back three and
four yards almost every play.

Speaker 9 (47:27):
So like those guys, yeah, go ahead, sorry to continue.

Speaker 2 (47:33):
Like both of those guys need to hold their ground
or at least beat some people because I just don't
see that that I think that's the crux of the
defense is the interior line.

Speaker 9 (47:48):
Yeah, and it's you know again talking about sarked play
calling decision, talking about defense not getting it done, Like
these are conversations who are not used to having and
last week against Florida, Like, I know that that offense
can can do a lot, but they had it so
far this season, and I wasn't particularly impressed with what

(48:10):
they put out on the field on Saturday. Just felt
like the defense it just it wasn't even any explosive
plays that we've seen DJ Lagway make before. It was
just little by little, they just kept inching down the
field with some you know, some decent drives like it.
It was it was mind boggling, honestly, just to see
a defense collapse like that.

Speaker 1 (48:31):
Yeah, before we let you go, where's the football game
for you this Friday that you guys are focusing on
over there at Kview.

Speaker 6 (48:40):
Yeah, we got an interesting one today, guys.

Speaker 9 (48:43):
Six A Division Arraies Huddo is taking on round Rock.
They were number one into in the district respectively. Huddo
is number one right now undefeated. Round Rock has one
loss on the season, but round Rock is beat hout
in the past three years. Whoever wins this one will
be the clear far away number one in that district.

(49:04):
So that is the game that I'm keeping my eye
on today, and that is our game of the week.

Speaker 3 (49:09):
Nice, nice, And are you gonna be able to come
up tomorrow?

Speaker 9 (49:14):
Yes, we are leaving Austin at about eight fifteen, which
for the kbut team probably means eight thirty, but we're
gonna make a fifteen run into traffic. We got to
get there early. I don't want to be dealing with
all of that. We don't have time to get corndogs
before the game. Okay, let's gonna get after the game
kind of thing, but we just got to get into

(49:34):
the stadium.

Speaker 1 (49:35):
We'll make sure you get over to Kolachi Factory because
they are your home for tailgating and all the purposes.
Jeff Jones Jeff Jones already hit me up and it's
like I need some of that in my life. So
make sure y'all get some of that Klatchi Factory because
that's right.

Speaker 3 (49:49):
Got to make sure you do that.

Speaker 1 (49:50):
As always, we appreciate you adjusting your time frame, but
we love talking to you.

Speaker 3 (49:55):
So be careful and have a great, great.

Speaker 1 (49:58):
Night tonight as you're going to be taking care of
Round Rock and Huddle and then making the trip to
Dallas for the Red River Rivalry.

Speaker 3 (50:06):
Be safe, easy, easy to be safe.

Speaker 6 (50:09):
But I'm not driving up with cards to Dallas.

Speaker 1 (50:13):
Oh gosh, Hey, don't let my reputation fool you. I'm
a good driving all right, saying thank you. Coming up next,
we've got our guy, Nathan Vasher, lifetime Longhorn and a
legend former Chicago Bear, and he's gonna get a chance
to have a rebuttal about Tommy Harris right here on

(50:33):
the morning kickoff on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.

Speaker 10 (50:40):
Let you sit down, Mark Henry and Mike Hart normally.

Speaker 1 (50:55):
Do the Legends of the Locker Room segment on Thursdays,
but today it's a special day because we got our guy,
lifetime Longhorn legend. He was inducted into the Longhorns Hall
of Honor in twenty seventeen. While he was playing for
the Texas Longhorns, he set a ton of records and

(51:16):
I'm gonna let him debate on if he set the
actual record in interceptions because there is a story to
be told behind that. He's from Texarkanada. He also played
in the NFL with the Chicago Bears. He's the one,
the only Nathan vash Or vash How you doing this.

Speaker 3 (51:34):
Morning, brother, I'm doing well man.

Speaker 1 (51:36):
How you guys doing.

Speaker 3 (51:37):
Good morning, Good morning. We're excited to talk to you. Man.

Speaker 1 (51:41):
It's been a while since a lot of the folks
in the Texas area got a chance to hear your voice,
so we appreciate you taking the time to hop on
with us. But you know, this week is a special week.
You and I had a conversation the other day about this,
and it just kind of changes your perspective all life.
We had Tommy Harris on yesterday. He said, he said,

(52:05):
he said, Nathan is one of the most quietest dudes,
but when this week happens, he has out of body experiences.

Speaker 8 (52:14):
Is that what said? Yes, this is the actual week
for sure. Man, No other time than right now to
show that passion, man, because I love me some Longhorns, man.

Speaker 3 (52:26):
Nate, I'm you know, I'm you know.

Speaker 2 (52:28):
I've always been a fan, and my wife has been
telling me for the last two weeks. Oh my god,
I love Nate's wife. We have to go hang out.
I said, you said it up. I'm ready to row.
So but let's make sure that it's something sports.

Speaker 3 (52:48):
Please. Can we make it something sports? I got to
do that. Yes, we'll make sure we do that.

Speaker 1 (52:55):
So Nate, let's get into the football part of this,
because Texas is in a yeah, funt, they're in a
tough spot right now, and especially for what they were
able to achieve over the last couple of seasons, you know,
and now people are looking at Texas in a different life.
With your experience and what you've been able to do

(53:18):
in your life, what would be some advice that you
would give this particular team if you had the opportunity
to speak with people.

Speaker 8 (53:26):
Yeah, I think it's just to quiet down the noise.
I mean, because you always have comments and criticisms from
everybody that's outside.

Speaker 3 (53:34):
Of that building.

Speaker 8 (53:35):
But it's understanding that you got to play to a
standard and it's not necessarily about your opponent, but about
how you prepared during the week, and just know that
you're going to get everybody's best shot. And teams, I mean,
they'll play fourteen to twenty one points better than what
they normally would just because they're playing the Horns, and
that's definitely a real thing and you have to embrace

(53:57):
that when you come to the University of Texas and
are part of the football program.

Speaker 1 (54:02):
Yeah, it's been interesting too, because the hype coming into
the season was all about Arch the defense obviously has
some playmakers on that side of the ball as well,
and they haven't really got themselves going, particularly Colin Simmons,
but last week he showed up making three straight stops
to kind of change that drive. What would you talk

(54:24):
to the defense about about executing because last week was
the first time that we sewn some cracks in the defense.

Speaker 8 (54:32):
Yeah, and I think that just shows how dominant you know,
Colin can be just in the defense as far as
pressure in the quarterback and you know, just getting after
that guy. Anytime you can get the quarterback off of
his mark and going the ball with some pressure in
his face and not being on time with passes, it
helps out the back end for sure. And that's a

(54:55):
testament just to show when you can get turnovers or
I like to problem take waves and give the ball
back to that explosive offense as many times as you can.
So that's the name of the game, being able to
stop the run and get turnovers. And I think we'll
be in a good spots.

Speaker 3 (55:11):
Nay, you think that is?

Speaker 2 (55:13):
It would be the Texas advantage to try to do
some shell coverages and show one thing and do another
because that defense has been playing head up so much
that we just expect them to just go out there
and dominate. Sometimes you got to scheme a little bit.
Maybe you gotta run a Blintz.

Speaker 8 (55:29):
There and now then, Oh absolutely, And I think that's
one of the things that you confuse a quarterback at
any time. I mean, going from single high to too deep,
you know, mixing in some of those zone pressures. If
you can get pressure with four, that's good, then you
have an opportunity to play more pass coverage on the

(55:50):
back end. But if you can start bringing bringing an
extra guy and you know, just bringing more pressure like that,
it confused the quarterback and it makes it a whole
lot easier for the for the defense to start teeing
off of those guys. So it's just you got to
start fast, you know. And hopefully that's one of those
things that they've worked on in practice. Because it is

(56:10):
a special week. I mean, you can throw all the
niceties out.

Speaker 3 (56:15):
I mean, there's no.

Speaker 8 (56:16):
Love lost between these two teams, and I'm pretty sure
that Oh, he's going to come out with some stuff
that we haven't seen, so you have to be prepared
for it.

Speaker 2 (56:24):
Nate, Let's be honest, and I'm not trying to get
you in trouble. But if you played a quarterback and
that quarterback had an injury and you were going to
tell your guys hit him and hit him often and
reach for that hand, wouldn't that be this.

Speaker 3 (56:41):
Frame of mind y'all would be in.

Speaker 8 (56:44):
I just feel like anytime you can be physical with
any of those guys, whether it's a running back or
lide receiver, you know that you know have issues out there.
You want to try to take advantage of that and
try to get the next guy.

Speaker 3 (56:56):
Up, you know.

Speaker 8 (56:57):
So some of those guys haven't had the rest there
in the week, and I mean, you never know how
that it will end up. Just because somebody gets the injury,
the next guy sometimes you haven't prepared for it. He
might be pretty good too.

Speaker 3 (57:10):
So it's just, you know, it's just.

Speaker 8 (57:13):
One of those deals.

Speaker 1 (57:15):
We're talking to lifetime Longhorn, Nathan Vasher, former Chicago Bear,
and somebody that left his mark on the University of
Texas football team. As I said, he was inducted into
the Hall of Honor in twenty seventeen and an absolute
dog in the return game.

Speaker 3 (57:33):
Absolutely. So I wanted to ask you this, Nate, Doc.

Speaker 1 (57:37):
You know, we've had our conversations, and one of the
conversations is there is a record that is out there
at the University of Texas that has been strongly debated,
and that is the career interceptions record. And correct me
if I'm wrong in your math. You had eighteen. The

(57:58):
record is tied at seventeen, and you are in that.
Am I wrong for thinking that you should have eighteen?

Speaker 8 (58:06):
I think in the record book they didn't start counting
bowl game interceptions or whatever it might be. For me,
it's one of those things just because I get an
opportunity to coach young kids now, and you want to
show them the right way on how to Once you're
into the game, you want to be able to leave

(58:27):
it better than when you got it, and just to
have that kind of applied with being able to be productive.
I mean, that's what you want as a young player
when you come to the Universey of Texas. You want
to leave your mark somewhere in those record books. And
I mean this is absolutely absolute pleasure just to be
a part of some of those records that are there,

(58:47):
all those great UT football players that have been there,
and you know, I still get to have that debate
with you guys all the time, and you know, enjoy it.
So I'm definitely looking forward to this season and how
everything goes.

Speaker 1 (59:04):
In your senior year, you did set the single season
school record for the most past breakups with twenty six
and the career record with sixty four. So when you
when you say you got a nose for the football,
you got a nose for the football.

Speaker 8 (59:21):
And yeah, you know, there's no doubt about that. Like,
you gotta know that you're around it, and you got
to make plays when the opportunity presents itself. And that's
what we got to have this week again. So you
got to be timely, you got to be confident, you
got to be aggressive when it comes to you know,
the ball in flight, and you know, just have a
good time with it. And that's one of those things

(59:41):
that I can remember playing in this game, you know,
with all my buddies rolling in the in the Dallas,
you know, everybody, it seems like you're going into the
enemy territory, man, because it's fifty to fifty each way,
and you just never know how that game is going
to go. But this can definitely tell the direction of

(01:00:02):
where the season can end up. Without At the end
of the.

Speaker 2 (01:00:05):
Day, I think that every offensive coordinator should be fired
if they throw at you. If you threw at Nathan Passion,
you need to be fired. I'm gonna not throw at you, Nate.
You not getting no breakups. You're not gonna get a
chance that interception you are on the Dione Sanders Rulee.
I'm not throwing to your side of the field.

Speaker 8 (01:00:27):
And the thing is, the guys are so lucky to
have Dwayne and keen of there, and I mean, he's
such an positive influence on even my coaching journey now
personally has been a mentor for me and just you know,
just the mindset that he set in with those guys,
with our group, especially in even a few classes behind us,

(01:00:48):
that the ball was yourge. You want to be aggressive.
We're not going to be a soft defensive backfield.

Speaker 3 (01:00:55):
It's it's an.

Speaker 8 (01:00:55):
Insult to be called a cover corner, and you want
to be able to come up on tackles and everything else.
So it's great to have him back in the building
to be able to impart those lessons for those.

Speaker 3 (01:01:08):
Guys as well.

Speaker 1 (01:01:09):
So Nick, you mentioned it a couple of times, and
you've had an excellent journey when you're dealing with young people,
so let the folks know what you're doing right now.

Speaker 3 (01:01:17):
And just recently you're coaching.

Speaker 1 (01:01:20):
Escapades, had you going up against a former Texas longhorn Son.

Speaker 8 (01:01:29):
So yeah, definitely. I'm at the Recent School of Boston
here in Austin, Texas. We're having a great season right
now right now, currently seven and oh three and oh
in district and you know, just chasing the state championship
right now. So it's been good. Vince's son goes to
kim K. We had a chance to see him and

(01:01:50):
he had a lot of support, you know, xut guys
coming out to support both sides. The best brand of
football I can honestly say, just Texas high school football.
Just here in the area. You can always get great
games to watch on Friday nights and cheer for the guys.

Speaker 1 (01:02:07):
And y'all got the dub last night, if I'm not mistaken, correct,
Yeah we did.

Speaker 3 (01:02:12):
Man, it was a big time.

Speaker 8 (01:02:13):
We had a Thursday night game, actually Thursday during the day,
and we had a chance to get a big win.
And we just continue to keep getting better every week
and keep pushing the guys to improve and and just
the same things that we talked about. We play to
a standard and it doesn't matter who the opponent is
across from us. They're they're nameless, they're faceless, and we

(01:02:34):
go out there and do what we do and continue
to keep keep getting better every week.

Speaker 1 (01:02:39):
What what will change before we let you go, Nate,
I wanted to ask you what will be the changing
factor in this ball game for the Texas Longhorse to
go out there and get a victory. Is it a
big pick, is it a return what kind of what
kind of thoughts do you have on the game tomorrow?

Speaker 8 (01:02:59):
Yeah, I would like to say it might be in
the return game. I'd like to see Texas's special teams
come alive with a big play, whether it's a kick
kick or a punt return, maybe even a turnover. Just
something early to get those guys juiced up to play
well on either side of the ball. Just more opportunities
that you give arch to go out and and use

(01:03:24):
that offense to be able to go out and get
get more points. I think we'll be excited, but I
think just being able to get through that first initial
surge of the excitement, the nerves, I mean, it might
be some of these guys first time playing in this game.
I'm pretty sure this is ARC's first time. Did he
get any any reps in this game?

Speaker 1 (01:03:43):
And probably he got in for maybe one or two
plays last last year.

Speaker 8 (01:03:48):
Yeah, But that's the thing. Like the cop Molt, it
is a different monster when it comes to just that
intensity and the speed. So I look for Texans to
come out and do something early explosively.

Speaker 3 (01:03:59):
I think you have a great I love it. I
love it.

Speaker 1 (01:04:03):
There is our guy Nathan Vasher doing his thing. Oh,
before we let you go, I want to know what
was it like coming out of that tunnel.

Speaker 3 (01:04:12):
Oh? Man, it was great.

Speaker 8 (01:04:14):
Man, Like you get chills. I mean even talking about
it right now, it's gonna take me another day or
two to get up for this game, just because I've
been so excited, been talking about it, you know, being
so fired up to see what this team is going
to do. But you walk out the same tunnel, You're

(01:04:34):
going to be shoulder shoulder with the enemy over there,
and you got to be able to not not cower down.
It can't be no pump. And that's what it is,
and that's what the main thing is. Like, It's all
about toughness and it's all about Wanton. So we're going
to see what this team is built on and we
want to see what they're what they're all about this weekend.

Speaker 3 (01:04:55):
I love it. I love it.

Speaker 1 (01:04:56):
There is Nathan Vasher lifetime Longhorn in the NFL, And
of course I got to make sure I get at
Tommy Harris for you, man, I got you backed down.

Speaker 8 (01:05:07):
You know that, please due, he won't stop talking, please do.

Speaker 1 (01:05:12):
I got you there. He is Nathan Vasher lifetime Longhorn.
Appreciate you, Nick Dog.

Speaker 3 (01:05:17):
All right, thanks guys, y'all have doing. Man, he is
one of the guys.

Speaker 1 (01:05:23):
Yeah, like he is the eleade of the elite people
exactly Earl Campbell's of University of Texas.

Speaker 3 (01:05:30):
That guy was special.

Speaker 1 (01:05:31):
I think he's one of those guys that a lot
of folks you don't forget. You don't forget about him,
but you understand that this dude is a guy and
he put up big time numbers. Coming up next, we
have our guy Mark Henry bringing you his World's Strongest
tape right here on the morning kickoff on Sports Radio

(01:05:52):
AM thirteen hundred zone. You heard the beat drop, it
could only mean one thing. WWE Hall of famer and
World's Strongest Man, Dean Mark Henry brings you his world's
strongest take.

Speaker 3 (01:06:04):
Take it away, big fellow. Alright, what's up? You know
what the time it is.

Speaker 2 (01:06:08):
It's time for the world's strongest take by the world's
strongest man. My guess back then they didn't know me,
but now hot they all on me.

Speaker 3 (01:06:22):
Anyway, guys, I got it. I got a heavy heart
today because.

Speaker 2 (01:06:31):
If you're a fan of sports, there's always like iconic
people that come into it that affect how you view
and how you see the game. And Sister Jean passed
away the chaplain at Loola Chicago. She was one hundred

(01:06:54):
and six years old, and every season she would catch
at at least five to six of the home games,
and the team.

Speaker 3 (01:07:05):
Would fly her with them.

Speaker 1 (01:07:10):
To certain games, rivalry games. I thought that was awesome.
I always loved the story of seeing Sister Jean. Sister Jean, guys.

Speaker 3 (01:07:23):
Excuse me. She was born in nineteen sixteen.

Speaker 1 (01:07:31):
She started off as the first athletic advisor to the team,
and then she became the chapelain later on. But she
was born the Louis Bertha Smith.

Speaker 2 (01:07:49):
Had many cases of helping the players and other students
when they didn't have money.

Speaker 3 (01:07:59):
I don't know if Sister Jean was.

Speaker 2 (01:08:03):
Rich, but the fact that you're able as an administrator
a teacher to be able to help kids with close
or help kids with books or she.

Speaker 3 (01:08:13):
Did that because of love for the university and her
love for basketball.

Speaker 1 (01:08:19):
And I think that as the Ramblers number one fan,
and I think you could almost say that Sister Jean
was the number one fan of college basketball like she.
I mean, how many other fans do we know and
have an iconic reputation of them traveling and being at

(01:08:41):
the Sweet sixteen?

Speaker 3 (01:08:44):
I mean the NCAA tournament.

Speaker 1 (01:08:47):
Every year for years and years and years, sixty years
she was at that university. I think it's a sad moment.
It's a heavy, heavy loss for me as a sports fan.
Hard what say you, Yeah, I'm a big fan. I
was a big fan of Sister Jean. I went and
bought a Loyola Chicago baseball cap because of Sister Jean,

(01:09:12):
and we always look forward to seeing her at the
basketball events. But you know, you mentioned Sister Jean and
talked about who else one of the biggest Texas Longhorn
fans who had missed the game since seventy seven.

Speaker 3 (01:09:26):
Is Scott Wilson.

Speaker 1 (01:09:27):
Scott Wilson is somebody that I'm a big fan of,
and you can see him at the baseball games, you
see him at volleyball games. The other day at volleyball
he had to miss a volleyball match because he had
suffered a heart attack last week at on his way
to Gainesville. So iconic is definitely the word that I

(01:09:48):
would use for Scott Wilson. But to your point, sister
Jean was a very, very prominent dominent person when it came.

Speaker 3 (01:09:55):
To Loyola Chicago. Loyal and Chicago.

Speaker 1 (01:09:58):
Getting into the tournament made sister Geane household name, so
one hundred and six years.

Speaker 2 (01:10:05):
Old, and the university put together an endowment fund that
gives scholarships uh to lool and Chicago students and in
her name.

Speaker 3 (01:10:17):
And I'm just like, man, she gonna live ever, Yes,
she is, she is.

Speaker 1 (01:10:21):
She She almost did one hundred and six forever. We
gonna We're gonna close out the show and send you
to damn Patrick.

Speaker 3 (01:10:28):
You're gonna hear from arch Man.

Speaker 1 (01:10:30):
We're also gonna tell you where you can come and
hang out with us this afternoon. It's a busy, busy
day right here on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred. This
welcome back to the morning kick off right here on
Sports Radio A.

Speaker 2 (01:10:45):
I don't apologize right now from my co host going
to hell.

Speaker 1 (01:10:51):
No, man, you going within me because you ride with
me today.

Speaker 3 (01:10:55):
Well, let's not go today. Please?

Speaker 1 (01:10:58):
Can we not go today? But we're going today. We're
gonna be at bar W. That's right, get over to
bar W today starting at two a clock, myself, Craig Way,
Mark Henry, and of course Cam Parker will be joining
ar J.

Speaker 2 (01:11:16):
I'm fast and for the rest of the day. I mean,
that's the last thing I'm eating today. Everything else is
gonna be water. Wow, because I'm getting ready for this, for.

Speaker 3 (01:11:25):
This food trip tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (01:11:27):
Well, I mean, first off, we're going to bar W.
So I'm sure you're gonna see if they got wings.

Speaker 2 (01:11:32):
I know that I would have normally I would have,
but I'm we're looking at the menu.

Speaker 3 (01:11:37):
Guys, and the menu is de leash holy cow.

Speaker 2 (01:11:41):
And you know, I don't like Cam Parker really, I
worked with him, but he did point out something that Cam,
you wanna you want to let everybody know what that
food item is.

Speaker 11 (01:11:54):
We're talking about the Dubai chocolate funnel cake fries.

Speaker 3 (01:11:58):
Yeah, say it slow because I'm right there with you.

Speaker 11 (01:12:01):
I'm not the biggest to buy a chocolate fan, but
I'll tell you what you chocolate and funnel cake I'm in.

Speaker 1 (01:12:07):
Yeah to the other item, boys, they got a Vietnamese
crunch dog.
