so let me take out my tobacco.

Speaker 1 (03:32):
Yeah, that's probably a better thing to do right there. Yeah, exactly,
look at that. Look at that hol long second.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
Hold y'all gotta get the full bank, got my coming
cowboy boots on the day.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
So, as you know, I guess I still doing.

You, Conte.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
You don't like the dress up this Halloween, and you
ain't gonna take away my fine Yeah.

Speaker 3 (03:59):
Yeah, exactly what.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
Okay, so if you let me figure out my tobacker, Yeah,
that's probably a better thing to do, right there.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
Yeah, exactly. So Happy Halloween everyone, Happy Halloween. Come on goodness,
Texas Longhorns. We are your home for the Texas Longhorns.
Make sure you locked in all week and long. Texas
Longhorns will be taking on the number nine ranked Vanderbilt Commodoores.

(04:28):
This is a big time matchup for the Texas Longhorns,
first time. They'll be home in forty two days and
Coach Stark started his press are off yesterday like this.

Speaker 4 (04:39):
Forty eight hours we're back in DKR, which is obviously
very exciting for us. You know, it'll be forty two
days Saturday from our last home game. So the idea
that we get to run out of our own tunnel,
playing fun of our you know, our one hundred thousand
fans and feel their support, their energy, I think is exciting.
I think, you know, one point to be made to

(05:01):
the team, which is very critical, the connectivity that bond
our ability to stay connected over the last month.

Speaker 3 (05:09):
We need to bring that to d k R.

Speaker 4 (05:10):
You know, we can't just rely on you know, external
factors to provide that energy.

Speaker 3 (05:16):
We got to make sure we're providing our.

Speaker 4 (05:17):
Own energy and then feed off of the energy from
from the crowd and then in turn give them the
energy to keep their keep our crowd alive in this game.
And so it's got to be a two way street
that way. Uh, we know, we're you know, it's a
heck of an opponent we're playing. It's gonna it's gonna
take all three phases performing at at a high level.
But I think we're you know, we're up for the challenge.
It's gonna be a heck of a game and looking

(05:39):
forward to the opportunity.

Speaker 3 (05:41):
I love it. Yeah, I love it.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
And that was a time when last year I made
a comment about coaches asking for the crowd to come
early and be loud, and that's kind of what I
felt right there. I'm like, listen, y'all, have you haven't
seen us in four weeks. You should be very excited
that we home as much as we're excited to play

(06:05):
in front of you. Let's all go out here and
work together. I need y'all allow blocking out.

Speaker 1 (06:10):
There, that's right, so they can't makes so they can't
make so Coach Sark as always, you know, trying to
get the fan base, the fan base travels, well, let's
not get it twisted. They did a really good job
of being on the road with the team and having
the opportunity to go and support them on a three

(06:33):
to one road trip. But he's ready for the matchup.
And the one thing about it is Diego Pavia. We
talked about the fact that he likes to run. He's
a scrambling quarterback. He tries to make plays with his legs.
So being able to play man demand causes a lot
of issues because as your guys running down the field,

(06:55):
you're turning your back on him and he may be
out the gay And so Sark was asked dangerous it
is to play man to man against Pavian.

Speaker 4 (07:04):
It's a challenge both ways because you know, I think
I think one thing is because of the multiplicity of
personnel groupings and formations and run schemes, you've got to
make sure you your your gap integrity is is sound
in all that they the looks that they can give you.
And and so there's times when sometimes zone coverages are

(07:27):
a little easier to adjust things out. Sometimes man is
a little easier to adjust out, but always in the
on the back burner is how are you going to
account for the quarterback and how are you going to
count for the quarterback in the designed quarterback runs? To
make sure you have enough hats to fit the design
quarterback runs. You always have to account for do you
have enough people to defend the triple option?

Speaker 3 (07:49):
Which which is a factor.

Speaker 4 (07:50):
And then you have to make sure that if they
do throw the ball that you have the ability to
defend the the the ad lib place and when he
starts to scramble and move out of the pocket, and
it's not always to run, you know. One of his
bigger plays last week was on a broken play, throwing
it back to the running back for a critical first down. So,
you know, really disciplined eye control, really disciplined in our

(08:12):
zone drops, really disciplined in man of our rush lanes,
our rush lanes, integrity of trying to cage that pocket.
I mean, all those things you're gonna play a part,
you know, as as it points to it, you know.
So I just don't think we can be one dimensional.
They're two well, coach, they got too good of a scheme.
We're gonna have to continue to mix our looks and
and try to make things, you know, difficult on them

(08:34):
and try to create some negative plays.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
You said that yesterday about the discipline, rather than trying
to spy him, just play discipline football. What do you
think that about that man man situation? Do you think
that with Texas being a better defense and having the
players that they have, that they can play more man
or should they even risk you?

Speaker 1 (08:56):
No. I think they definitely can play man, but it's
in select moments. You have to understand where this team
is and how they operate.

Speaker 3 (09:05):
They're going.

Speaker 1 (09:07):
Yeah, they are a very very good third down team.
That's the purpose of them. They keep you off the field.
Your offense stays off the field. And it's funny that
you brought that up because Vandy plays at a slow
tempo and they grind it out. So this game, you know,

(09:27):
we were talking yesterday, Eric said Eric Henry of Horns
two four to seven. If you miss that, get over
to our podcast page at AM thirteen hundred to zone
wherever you get your podcast. He mentioned about a low
scoring game because you're not going to have that many
opportunities with the football. So Sark was asked yesterday about

(09:47):
their slow tempo and putting pressure to get Texas to
get their offense off the field.

Speaker 4 (09:54):
Well, I think that's one of the keys to their success.

Speaker 3 (09:57):
Right.

Speaker 4 (09:57):
They're one of the top third down teams the country.
I think they're over fifty percent maybe fifty two percent
on third down, which is which is an excellent number.
And part of that is doing part you know, they
they generally move the ball forward, you know, they're they
they run the ball, they get themselves in third and
short situations, they convert third downs, they stay on the field,

(10:18):
and then that allows them to be to be inefficient
offensive football team. And so the idea is how well
can you do on first and second down to put
yourselves in a winning situation on third down and then
when they do get to the red area to doing
a great job of playing red zone lockout and keeping
them out of the end zone. On the flip side

(10:39):
offensively is you know that it's probably more pressure there
to remain efficient on the offensive side of the ball,
just knowing how deliberate they can play, and it's a
it's a it's a nice style of play. They do
a good job of playing complimentary football at Vanderbilt does,
and so you know they your ability to remain effishent offensively,
I think is equally as important.

Speaker 1 (11:00):
Got to make sure you take care of the football.
You got to make sure that you are able to
control the line of scrimmage, and most importantly, getting them
off the field on third down is going to be
one of the keys to the game tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (11:12):
This is an efficient football team.

Speaker 1 (11:14):
They understand who they are, they understand what they're capable of,
and they don't try to get outside of that, and
that's why they're tough. But one of the last thing
Coach Sark was asked about, because obviously arch Manning practiced
yesterday once again so that Michael taff I would lean
more towards TAF plan before I do with with arch Manning,

(11:37):
only because of the protocol stuff, everything that you talked
about yesterday being in concussion protocol. But the one thing
Coach Sark said about, you got challenge for both teams,
for US Texas being able to prep with both quarterbacks,
but also for Vanderbilt trying to figure out who's going
to be the quarterback.

Speaker 4 (11:57):
You know, we haven't we haven't changed anything that we've done.
You know, our our system has been our system. I
know that as coaches and his teammates have the utmost
you know, confidence and respect for for Matt Caldwell.

Speaker 3 (12:09):
You know, he's he performs really well.

Speaker 4 (12:11):
I know you guys have a very small sample size
of what you see in game, but he gives us
a ton of confidence in the way that he practices
every day, the way that he works. Uh Naturally, He's
been thrown into the fire here a couple of different
times in SEC play and has performed very well. So
the game plan is the game plan, and I think
that they, you know, all of his teammates had to
have a ton of confidence in Matt if it's his

(12:32):
time to go.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
Yep, they like him. They like him, And I haven't
heard not one person. I mean, obviously, I don't think
anybody will say something bad.

Speaker 3 (12:41):
I mean, you.

Speaker 2 (12:42):
Wouldn't be part. You're not gonna get bad talk. Now,
you're gonna get the Are you sure you want to
do that? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (12:49):
Yeah. So we're just getting started on this field. Good football.
Friday edition of the Morning Kickoff coming up next. We're
gonna talk college football, big matchups this weekend. Also seven
point thirty four. We're gonna hear from coach Miller as
Texas gets ready to start basketball season and they open
up against the number one team in the land. We're

(13:11):
just getting started right here on AM thirteen hundred The
Zone and always free.

Speaker 3 (13:17):
On the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (13:19):
Welcome back to a feeld good football Friday edition of
the Morning Kickoff right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen
hundred The Zone. Coming up in the next segment, we
will talk all things Texas basketball. Is they have a
big time matchup starting off the season and that starts
November the fourth against the Duke Blue Devils. Yesterday, the

(13:44):
what is it called the sec Availability Student Athlete Availability
list was released like that, yeah, seventy ten last night.
And on the Texas side that both of the number
sixteens are sitting there. Arch Manning and Michael taff are
sitting as questionable and edge rusher Lance Jackson and Cole

(14:09):
Hudson are listed as probable.

Speaker 3 (14:12):
So two are trending in the right direction.

Speaker 1 (14:16):
The last, the big two, the two captains of the team,
the one on the offense and one on the defense,
and both of them wearing number sixteen, is being discussed
and we will know a little bit more tonight and
first thing in the morning, because don't forget Texas plays
at eleven am, but we will get them. They started
for you at eight a m. Right there on Bevo Boulevard. Myself,

(14:39):
Mark Henry and of course Cam Parker lead you up
to the network coverage with Craig Way, Roger Wallace and
of course Will Matthews and kickoff against Vanderbilt will take
place after eleven, So it is a busy early earlys
that's right. Kegs and eggs, and make sure tonight while

(15:00):
you're out there trick or treating you, take your time,
take your time, don't be don't be out there all night.

Speaker 3 (15:08):
Don't be out there all night.

Speaker 1 (15:09):
Just get get your rest because it's gonna be a
long Saturday.

Speaker 2 (15:13):
Listen, Candy gonna go fast and when the light go
off that means don't come.

Speaker 1 (15:17):
Up, Yeah, because you're gonna be messing with Sasquat.

Speaker 3 (15:21):
That's what he said.

Speaker 2 (15:23):
Boy, you're gonna wish you and come up through the steps.

Speaker 1 (15:26):
Well, this weekend we have a lot of matchups that
have a lot of bearing on the sec You got
games that are going to take place, uh, starting at
eleven o'clock on on the Texas Longhorns and Vanderbilt number
nine versus number twenty.

Speaker 3 (15:43):
Arch Manning hopefully is there.

Speaker 1 (15:44):
If not, we just heard Matthew Caldwell, we'll be there
against Diego Pavia.

Speaker 3 (15:49):
You've also got two thirty.

Speaker 1 (15:51):
You have Georgia versus Florida and the cocktail party in Jacksonville.
Can the Florida Gators upset the Georgia Bulldogs who are
sitting at number five.

Speaker 2 (16:02):
Tennessee, Oklahoma's gonna be a I mean, that's that's a
pivotal game in this conference.

Speaker 3 (16:07):
No doubt.

Speaker 1 (16:07):
It's like, yeah, it's a huge, huge matchup because if
you look at the standings right now, Texas A and
M is sitting at the top at five and oh,
eight and oh. All season long, they are IDOL. This
week Alabama is five and oh at the top. So
we have two teams that are undefeated at the top
of the SEC strictly conference play. We know that they lost.

(16:28):
We know that Alabama lost. Ole Miss is sitting at
four and one, Georgia four and one, Vanderbilt three and one,
Texas three and one, So these matchups are pivotal. Tennessee
is three and two, Oklahoma two and two. Missouri two
and two, Florida two and two, LSU two and three.
By the way, LSU has fired their their athletic director

(16:52):
after the governor of Louisiana has some choice words and
it just seems like the pressure got to a But
I'm telling you this, I promise you Scott Willward will
be getting a job.

Speaker 3 (17:04):
I didn't want him fired. I didn't want him fire.

Speaker 2 (17:06):
What I said to be a pride guy in the
way yesterday, because when you're masculated man, you take away
his ability to do.

Speaker 3 (17:14):
His job, then why are you there?

Speaker 2 (17:17):
And you did it in front of the world in
a way, in a joking way. He wasn't joking, well,
I know, but he made a joke about him not
making a decision for them, that they were going to
create a committee.

Speaker 3 (17:32):
I thought that lacked a little class.

Speaker 2 (17:34):
But still nonetheless, but you can say that in the office,
you can say that behind closed doors. You don't get
in front of the media and say I let Donald
Trump be the present, be I let Donald Trump call
make the next pick.

Speaker 3 (17:52):
You don't do that, Like, where.

Speaker 1 (17:55):
Did they do that at Louisiana? Oh yeah, yeah, that's
where that is. That's where they do that at so yeah,
big time matchups across the country as well. Ohio State
is a nineteen point favorite. This was a game at
the beginning of the year where Ohio State and Penn
State We're going to be a big time matchup to

(18:15):
kick off November, and here we are now. Penn State
is struggling and Ohio State is the number one team
in the land. You also have the number twelve ranked
Texas Tech Red Raiders traveling to k State. That game
is at two thirty on Fox. The interesting part about
this is they've got their quarterbacks both hurt. Will Hammond

(18:39):
is out Bear Morton. I'm trying to figure out if
he's going to play. I gotta look at their injury
report to see if he's going to be able to
start at quarterbacks. So they've got their own Yeah, that
student athlete player availability, We'll see what that is.

Speaker 3 (18:54):
I'm like, my goodness, just tell me the injury report.

Speaker 1 (18:58):
And then you have Oklahoma, as you mentioned, number eighteenth
ranked Oklahoma travels to Tennessee. Tennessee is a two and
a half point favorite. That game kicks off at six
point thirty. You have number twenty three USC who's been
very quiet, like nobody really talking. Nobody's really talking about

(19:18):
usc but they're four and a half point favorite against Nebraska.

Speaker 3 (19:22):
Nebraska just extended. Matt Ruhle.

Speaker 1 (19:25):
It's amazing how when coaches jobs come open, certain coaches
getting an extension.

Speaker 3 (19:30):
I wonder how that works. Yeah, it's amazing.

Speaker 1 (19:34):
And then the nightcap you have number seventeen Cincinnati going
to Utah, number twenty four ranked Utah. That game is
at nine to fifteen at night on EESPN, So you
have a full day, full day of coverage when it
comes to college football, obviously, the story is about Texas

(19:56):
and Vanderbilt. This is a game for for the trenches.
You know, we talked a little bit about this yesterday,
and to be able to control the line of scrimmage,
to be able both sides of the ball, because Texas
was pushed to the limit on Saturday against Mississippi State.

(20:18):
They were scoring, Mississippi State was scoring. Then Texas made
the adjustments, started getting those stops and at the end
when you needed them the most eighty six plays on
the field, you had to go out there and make
a play. And back to back weeks Texas has had
to endure more plays on the field as defense. Yeah,

(20:41):
they have and this is gonna have to be just
like the game in Dallas.

Speaker 2 (20:46):
The offensive line of defensive lines have got to step
up and be have a schizophrenic like personality. Yep, because
there are times when they if you could do it once,
you can do it all the time. That's that's my
feeling about it. But the reason that they don't do
it all the time is based on what the defense

(21:07):
shows them and they trick them into getting out of
their discipline. If they can focus and stay in their
discipline and know, hey, if they shave right, then everybody
just block one man over they shave left, Hey, everybody
shave block one left, one guide to the left. It's
very simple, but it's hard when you got young people

(21:27):
that you got to tell them what to do and
man like, there's no there's no acceleration process. It's called
experience for a reason. Like they have to go out
there and experience it.

Speaker 3 (21:40):
Next year they'll be better. But everybody's focused on right now.

Speaker 1 (21:43):
Yeah, you gotta be grow up fast and be able
to take that. But one of the things that has
helped Texas is that they have a lot of interior
depth on the defensive line. Because lately they've been playing
a lot of snaps.

Speaker 4 (22:00):
One thing that has gotten notoriety for Vanderbilt's offensive line
is that they play with a strong and a weak side,
you know, most size more typically as you have a
left tackle, a left guard, and then a right guard
and a right tackle, and they they flip sides, you know.
And that's a little bit of an older model, but

(22:20):
a very effective model that worked for a long long time,
and it works for them. There's not much really to
make of it outside of that, that's what they do.

Speaker 3 (22:28):
I do think this is an excellent run blocking unit. Uh.

Speaker 4 (22:32):
They use a variety of schemes. They they they pull well,
they get to the second level well. And so the
task is really on our defensive front. You know, if
if if this game wants to go the way we
wanted to go, you know, our defensive fronts has got
to play and we need to play well, and we
need to be we need to be dominant on first
and second down, and we need to do a good

(22:53):
job on third down of cage and the quarterback. And
so I think our depth has played a part over
the past couple of weeks. You know, their ability to
stand tall and a goal line stand at Kentucky on
the ninetieth play of the game to get a stop,
their ability to sack a quarterback on the ninetieth play
of the game and overtime at Mississippi State. I think

(23:14):
speaks volumes to the depth that we have and the
trust that we have and a lot of those guys
to play at critical moments.

Speaker 1 (23:21):
And it has changed a lot, and that's why they've
been able to make these types of positive gains by
getting that experience on that defensive line. Coming up next,
we're gonna talk basketball. That's right, Sean Miller's time has
about to start.

Speaker 3 (23:37):
It's all about to be that time for Sean Miller.

Speaker 1 (23:40):
We'll hear from coach as they get ready to go
to Charlotte and take on Duke and that big freshman
Cam Boozer. Right here on the morning kickoff on sports
Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone, make sure you tune
in at eight o'clock as we will have Ann Parker,
Coleman of Caview joining us to talk all things Texas Longhorns,

(24:03):
and of course, football season is about to end for
high school well, some teams are done, but some are
getting ready for the playoff action, and of course at
eight seventeen will have Drew Martin from the University of
Texas telling you all things that are happening on Bevo
Boo LeVar.

Speaker 3 (24:23):
Yeah do that man, I uh, thank you, thank you.

Speaker 1 (24:27):
Eron, Oh you back, okay, you back now, Mark Henry.
But the Sean Miller erap is about to start at
the University of Texas. Sean Miller was hired to replace
Rodney Terry. And what better way to start your season

(24:49):
off than playing the number five ranked Duke Blue Devils
November fourth on Tuesday. You can watch the game on ESPN,
but of course you can hear all the action right
here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred to zone with
our man way. It is a good thing because basketball
season is back. You get a chance to see it.
You get to see all things Texas Longhorns. And the

(25:11):
important part about this is Sean Miller is coming in
and trying.

Speaker 3 (25:16):
To not change the culture.

Speaker 1 (25:19):
But I guess you could because it's his culture and
he's trying to be innovative. And you know, his teams
are gonna be tough and they're gonna be hard nos
basketball players. But yesterday he got a chance to speak
with the media for the first time since I believe
his introductory press conference.

Speaker 5 (25:37):
Yeah, I wanted to start off just on a couple
couple fronts. One just to update you know, our team
in terms of our health and where we stand, as
I think a lot of you know, we ran into
two unfortunate injuries about three over three weeks ago with Lesina,
Treyorri and modest are two five men, and in both

(26:01):
of our closed scrimmages, neither of those two guys participated,
which made both of those scrimmages problematic. And it's also
no doubt about it put us in a unique situation
of the thirty practices to have you know, in essence
about three week period of time with you know, you're
kind of like your two five men that are going

(26:22):
to play a lot of minutes both out at the
same time. I think the good news is in Modis's case,
he's not only returned to practice but doing really well.
He had an ankle sprain of significance, but a lot
of the bad is behind him, and I think he's
not only set the play, but my hope is he

(26:43):
can have a good four or five six days before
we begin before we played Duke. In terms of Lessina,
he had a mid foot sprain injury, and that, you know,
is a little bit more complicated simply because, as you know,
a year ago he missed the season with an acl
on his other leg. So we're just making sure that

(27:04):
we don't put him in a bad position in either way.
We also are anticipating him being available for our season opener,
and he too has returned to practice more in a
limited capacity than.

Speaker 3 (27:18):
Modest, but no doubt about it.

Speaker 5 (27:20):
You know, selfishly, as a coach, you want your entire
roster to be able to practice every day. Those two
guys missing the time that they missed has really hurt everybody.

Speaker 3 (27:32):
If there's a.

Speaker 5 (27:33):
Silver lining in it, you know, I think John Clark
and Nick Cody have gotten a lot of additional reps.
They played a majority of the scrimmage minutes against both
SMU and TCU, and you know, we've we've learned to
kind of like play without those guys during their absence,
but we are very much looking forward to getting them

(27:54):
back full time and and especially from their perspective, both
guys are very important to our team, meaning Lesina and
Modes in.

Speaker 3 (28:04):
Terms of the Duke game.

Speaker 5 (28:05):
As you know, the Duke game was scheduled before I
became the head coach here. We look forward to the
challenge of playing, if not the best program in America,
certainly one of them, and we have an amazing amount
of respect for Duke, and I really have a lot
of respect for John Shire as a coach. I think
the job that he's done taking over for coach k

(28:28):
is in itself, on its face, superior.

Speaker 6 (28:33):
I don't know if anybody could do.

Speaker 5 (28:35):
A much better job than John has done, kind of
taking Duke to taking over at Duke and then leading
them here to the future. So we know it's going
to be a difficult challenge, but I think at Texas
to go where we want to go and be the
program we want to become. Part of that path is
you have to be able to play against the best,
and Duke certainly represents that.

Speaker 1 (28:57):
So to understand what he was talking about is the
seven foot from Lithuania that is going to be out
and uh Lesina is the six to nine graduate transfer
that came in from Xavier as well. So those are
two guys that Texas is going to be using and

(29:19):
looking forward to playing as the season goes on. He
said that he didn't say that they were going to
be out. He said that they might be ready for Duke,
but they've missed a lot of time on the practice court.

Speaker 3 (29:30):
Yeah, but you have your two seven foot sixty.

Speaker 2 (29:33):
Nine guys, the big guys, the guys that turn the
game inside out. You need those, especially against Duke, right
because they have a meat grinder.

Speaker 3 (29:48):
Yep.

Speaker 2 (29:48):
I mean, I know he's a freshman, but just like
his dad, Boozer, is a monster, y'all. Yeah, he's going
to be a one and done like he'll be in
the next year.

Speaker 3 (30:00):
The dude is amazing. Yeah, he's been able to do
some things.

Speaker 1 (30:03):
But coach Miller talked about Kendall Weaver and how he's
been progressing to the way that he Like I told you,
he's bigger, he looks more explosive, and now is going
to be a time for him because he's kind of
like a glue guy.

Speaker 3 (30:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (30:17):
I would say that of all of our players, and
I'll start in late May early June when our team
came together for the first time, Kendall may be the
most consistent, meaning not only his quality of play every day,
but his demeanor showing up being a guy who's early

(30:37):
to the gym, late to leave, and super competitive in
all that we do, defense, offense, drills, player development. He
wants to be good. He loves the game. He really
pours his heart and soul into what he does. I
don't know if any coach could ever say anything other
than he's a pleasure to coach. I think that sometimes

(31:01):
when I watch Kendall, you can't believe how athletic and
what he is able to accomplish at his size. He's
not a very big guy. You knows how much he weighs,
how tall he is. He plays much bigger than the
actual size. You know, he walks into the room, you
almost are taken back, like, wow, I thought you were bigger, right,

(31:21):
Because that's how he plays the game.

Speaker 3 (31:23):
You know, he can play above the rim.

Speaker 5 (31:25):
He's just really fast and quick, and he gives a
lot of himself to what his team does.

Speaker 3 (31:31):
So he's been really consistent. We need him to be healthy.

Speaker 5 (31:35):
I know you guys have seen him when he is
and isn't, and we're hoping for a healthy season. And
if that's the case, I would bet on him having
his career best year. I believe that he's set up
to do that, not just three point shooting or scoring,
but you know, he can check the box in a
lot of different areas. He's a very versatile guard.

Speaker 1 (31:56):
I've been a big fan of him since he's been
on this campus. Yeah, he is showing that he can
be that guy, and that's good for coach Miller and
what he's trying to portray.

Speaker 2 (32:08):
As if he was a superhero, he would be Green
Lamb because of will power, Like that's his superpower. Will
He just don't want to quit. He's not gonna quit.
He's not gonna give up. Unbelievable, dude.

Speaker 3 (32:19):
This year Halloween fell on the weekend. Coming up next,
we gonna talking.

Speaker 1 (32:27):
We're gonna talk in Lamar's back, folks right here on
the morning kickoff on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.

Speaker 3 (32:36):
Welcome back there, it is.

Speaker 1 (32:39):
Halloween fell on the weekend, right here, Halloween Today. Mark
came in looking like my man, Earl Campbell, the King
of Texas football.

Speaker 3 (32:52):
Yeah, there you go, there you go.

Speaker 1 (32:54):
I want to get into this conversation because Halloween did
fall on the weekend, but last night there was a
lot of tricking and treating going on in Miami last night,
my god, and all of a sudden, my man looked
a little bit out of character. Mike McDaniel didn't understand.
He thought that they had things going in the right direction.

(33:15):
But Mama, there go that man again. Lamar Jackson was
back on the field and he was not handing out
bags of goodies unless you played for the Ravens. All
he did was come back and show that he was
the MVP at one point. And it's funny to me
because we all understand that Mike McDaniels is on a tight,

(33:41):
tight leash. I mean that thing is getting tighter and tighter.
And they went they lose last night, twenty eight to six,
and they were close. They were driving the ball down
the field. They were trying to make things happen. But
then all of a sudden, Mike McDaniel and Tua went
back to the old ways and things did not happen.

Speaker 3 (34:02):
And after the game, well that's all, folks, But.

Speaker 7 (34:09):
The uh, you know it, it's pretty simple, like, uh,
you got a I think a red zone turnover, you
have a red zone turnover. On downs, you have a
backed up turnover, and a missed field goal and generally
it's it's a bad omen to be very capable of

(34:34):
being in the lead and uh being behind getting six
points in the first half with having I think two
thirds time of possession if I remember correctly, uh roughly,
and uh yeah, you're that that's setting up for failure.
And we're minus three and they they were three for

(34:59):
three in the red zone and we didn't score touchdown.

Speaker 3 (35:01):
So there was elements of.

Speaker 7 (35:03):
The the the the football confidence you know, uh created
last week. But the bottom line is you have to
cross our t's and dot your eyes in the in
the National Football League or or you get made pay.
So there's it's a very very disappointing and unfortunately we're

(35:32):
gonna have to sit on that disappointment for ten days.
I know the locker room would like to go play
another Thursday night game in four days to uh get
this bad taste out of their mouth. But these are
the things that will constantly occur in the National Football League.
You won't like the results if if you have those

(35:54):
major elements uh uh minus in the red zone and
my us turnover, Sure it's going to be a long day.

Speaker 1 (36:05):
In the final episode of what the Hell did Mike
McDaniel just say, Oh.

Speaker 3 (36:09):
My lord, them again. That was so uncomfortable. I sat
here and I started to feel.

Speaker 2 (36:19):
Compassion and him and then that's how that's how bad
that was. And that's the guy that how does he
stand in front of the locker room. Guys, we're not
playing well, thank you, captain obvious. That's what the locker
room is saying. All right, we Johnny played good, but

(36:43):
Roy Scott Robert, Yeah, man, y'all got to do like.

Speaker 3 (36:47):
He sounds, how do you address.

Speaker 1 (36:52):
And let me tell you this last night was the
first time I saw him spitting venom.

Speaker 3 (37:00):
Last night.

Speaker 1 (37:01):
He was so angry on the sideline and they asked,
why is Mike McDaniel so out right?

Speaker 3 (37:07):
That was?

Speaker 7 (37:08):
That was that self inflicted wounds that you know, I
I we've been putting such an emphasis on, you know,
all things related to our operation and in a critical
fourth and fourth and one where the the you know,
we're we're pretty fired up about the defensive Look. It

(37:32):
was what we were calling, uh calling the play for
and that's uh flat out uh a controllable that our
team knows that keeps you from winning. So I was
I rate at nothing, but uh, our self inflicted wound?

Speaker 3 (37:55):
What the hell did you say, I just can't.

Speaker 8 (38:01):
Man.

Speaker 3 (38:01):
He was so mad.

Speaker 1 (38:03):
He ran to the middle of the field and was
dog cussing.

Speaker 3 (38:07):
He was looking like an old cartoon can exactly.

Speaker 1 (38:10):
He was out there angry. They were putting subtitles above
his head, that's how bad he was. And it was all, uh,
what do they call them things?

Speaker 3 (38:22):
Whatever? No, it was one of those where you don't
have words. Oh yeah, it's just letters. Yeah. He was
all over the place off the field.

Speaker 2 (38:37):
The whole crowd started saying get out, get out, get out.

Speaker 3 (38:41):
And I was just like, they must really be fans, bro.
That is that is the worst.

Speaker 2 (38:47):
I mean, when you're hurt and vulnerable and then you
feel that kind of vitry off from the crowd.

Speaker 3 (38:53):
Yeah, that's got it. That had this up. It was awful.

Speaker 1 (38:57):
Like they were driving down the field multiple times and
could not finish because of self inflicted penalties, false starts holding.
At one point, Ali Gordon the Second was walking off
the field and he and the running backs coach we're
about to throw hands at each other.

Speaker 3 (39:18):
This is over, So is our number one coming up? Next?
We do have and Parker Coleman.

Speaker 1 (39:25):
Of KVU talking football once again and high school playoffs
are getting close right here on the Morning Kickoff on
sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.

Speaker 3 (39:37):
Welcome back to our number.

Speaker 1 (39:38):
Two of a feel good football Friday edition of the
Morning Kickoff right here on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred
The Zone. We got a chance to hear from coach
sarkas he had his final media availability getting ready to
take on the number nine ranked Vanderbilt Commodorees. Here tomorrow,
starting at eleven am. You can hear all the action
right here on sports Radio AM teen hundred to Zone

(40:01):
and always free on the iHeartRadio app. We also got
a chance to talk about Sean Miller and the basketball
team as they get ready to open up the season
against Duke, and we got a chance to listen to
the mumbler Mike McDaniel.

Speaker 3 (40:16):
Coming up next, we.

Speaker 1 (40:17):
Have at eight seventeen we'll have Drew Martin, Assistant Athletic
Director for the University of Texas, telling you all things
that are happening on the forty acres tomorrow. But right now,
let's talk to our good friend Ann Parker Coleman of
caview as.

Speaker 3 (40:33):
We get ready for you again. It is time to get.

Speaker 1 (40:37):
Busy and let's talk about it right now, because there
is a lot happening in Austin, Texas this weekend.

Speaker 3 (40:44):
As we talked about.

Speaker 1 (40:45):
Obviously, number nine Vanderbilt is coming in town to take
on the Texas Longhorns. Big matchup for both sides of
the ball. But more importantly, what is that defense going
to do to stop Diego Pavia.

Speaker 9 (41:00):
Yeah, guys, I think it's really going to be the
most important on third downs.

Speaker 8 (41:04):
That's where Pavia shines. That's where he tends to six
and plays with his legs.

Speaker 9 (41:08):
But Texas defense has been pretty good on third down,
only allowed converting I think thirty five percent of their
opponents third downs. So when I think about this, that's
where my mind goes. And other than that, I think
it's really going to come down to that defensive front.
Like guys like Colin Simmons and Anthony Hill Junior. They

(41:31):
gotta get after him this weekend because it's it really is.
I saw I saw somebody write this. I was like,
that's so funny. Diego Pavia is the Cam Skataboo of
college football, like a guy that just everything revolves around.
If you take him out of the game, it's a
completely different game. It's a completely different team. So you
got to limit their downs and you gotta limit him.

Speaker 2 (41:52):
And you've done a lot of investigating on both of
these quarterbacks, Arch and Pavia and.

Speaker 3 (42:00):
What have you come up with.

Speaker 2 (42:02):
I looked at some of the statistics and they're so
mirror close to each other.

Speaker 9 (42:08):
Yeah, yeah, they are. What I mean the difference though
between the two of them. Stark made this comment earlier
in the week. Being quarterback isn't just about you know,
x's and o's in your stat line and how well
you can sling it like, It's about being a leader
in the locker room. And that is the X factor

(42:29):
for Diego Pavi. And that's the difference that I see
between the two of them. Diego Pavi is on his
like tenth year of college football, Like he is a leader,
he's a veteran and he has made not just the team,
but gosh, the entire fan base around Vanderbilt believe. And
when you look at Arch Maning, like, yeah, he's a

(42:50):
guy that's got a lot of swag and is you know,
more of a natural leader as well. But he's no
Diego Pavia yet. He doesn't have that kind or around him.
But the other thing is is like, are we gonna
see that dude on Saturday?

Speaker 8 (43:04):
We still don't know.

Speaker 9 (43:05):
It's it's one of the more interesting storylines I think
of this game.

Speaker 1 (43:10):
You did say that, you know, there's this little video
that's out there that you made that you said, there's
just something about you that wants to see what Matthew
called Will can do. We've seen him come in in
some clutch situations, but watching him on this stage, in
the big moment, there's just something about him that you

(43:30):
kind of want to see what he's able to do.

Speaker 9 (43:33):
Yeah, guys, probably one of my worst decisions is putting
a video of me on the Internet saying like I
kind of want to see Matthew Caldwell play football because
Texas fans do have a tendency to call for the backup,
but I just want to just want to clarify it's
not one of them.

Speaker 3 (43:48):
You wanted to get started.

Speaker 8 (43:51):
Yeah, exactly, Like I'm the leader of this ulti movement,
no things, Like I do not hate me as that
arch raining is QB one. He you know, there's no
doubt about that.

Speaker 9 (44:02):
But like the dude wabbled off the fields last week,
Like I don't want him to rush back either, and
I feel may be confident is the wrong word. It
is more curious about Matthew Caldwell, like forgot to come
in cold off the bench and throw that touch of
Parker livingson last week, like there's something there.

Speaker 8 (44:26):
I'm I'm I'm curious, I don't know, and and the
other the other reason why I think.

Speaker 9 (44:34):
This totally abased. He just reminds me of Kirk Cousins.
Kirk Cousins winner might be saying on the bench right now,
but like, oh thank you. As soon as I said that,
I could see Mark be like huh, and I was like,

(44:55):
I got that.

Speaker 3 (44:57):
Thank you.

Speaker 2 (44:57):
Well, the whole point of the is the pressure that
he was under in that situation and to make that throw. Now,
I'm not sure if it's correct because I'm going by
a super fan, but there was a super fan that
said that he audibled into that, and if that was
the case, then that was even more of an impressive throw.

(45:20):
And him being able to see that and go, oh
my god, this guy is one on one, Hey Moseley,
do this like that?

Speaker 3 (45:28):
That's super impressive.

Speaker 9 (45:31):
Yeah, And you know, we don't talk about him when
he's the backup quarterback. Well, I say that is if
like we didn't talk about the backup quarterback all last
year when you were stud one. But you know, he's
a guy that we don't talk about a lot on
the Teammate's been interesting this week to hear Sark speak
more on him and what he's like in the locker
room and everything. And he says that there's maybe not

(45:52):
a more vocal guy on the sidelines, like he's always talking.

Speaker 8 (45:57):
He really has a respect of his teammates.

Speaker 9 (45:59):
And that's to do when you can't go out on
the field and show why you should have respect.

Speaker 8 (46:06):
Yeah, I think, I don't know. I don't know.

Speaker 9 (46:08):
I just I wouldn't rush Arch Manning back, Like it's
a completely different situation. But I look at John Mattier
who had that hand surgery. He's been playing completely differently now.
It's he should not, in my opinion, have come back. Yeah,
he shouldn't have come back for Red River rivalry and

(46:29):
a concussion, I would argue, is more serious than a
hand injury. So the Mannings are smarter than that. I
just don't want him to to rush back. And and
I feel like you're in a position where Matthew Caldwell
is the kind of backup to where like you don't
have to rush back and it might safe in his hands.

Speaker 3 (46:50):
There is a reason why stay right.

Speaker 1 (46:53):
There is a reason why coach Stark went out and
got that young man to come over here, and he
showed a little bit of that in a couple of
mop up duties.

Speaker 8 (47:01):
Yeah, us, wait, can I say one last day on him?
This is like my Roman Empire this week?

Speaker 9 (47:06):
The guy started his career at jack State, then went
to Gardner Web, then went to Troy, Like how cool
would it be.

Speaker 8 (47:13):
For him to get a start at Texas?

Speaker 9 (47:16):
Like, I'm sure it's already amazing to be the backup
at Texas are steps up from his other stocks, But
just like, what a way to wrap a bow on
his college career if there was one, you know, shining
moment like I just.

Speaker 8 (47:28):
I love an underdog and that just reads like a
cool underdog.

Speaker 2 (47:31):
But he's never had a chance to play with players
like these.

Speaker 8 (47:35):
Exactly, Yeah, exactly. It's a really good point too.

Speaker 1 (47:38):
We're talking to Anne Parker Coleman of CAVU. Make sure
you are watching CAVU, and of course make sure you're
watching Friday Night fever as the season is coming to
an end for the regular season, but we're getting closer
and closer to playoff action. I believe there's two games
left in the regular season for most of the teams
around here in this area, and two of the teams

(48:01):
that I am paying a lot of attention to is
going to be that matchup between It's not this week.
I believe it's next week between Weiss and Anderson. Anderson
with Caleb Crenshaw and what he's been able to do,
my guy Jay Foremer wide receiver and defensive player for Anderson,
and of course what Weiss has been able to do
with their talent.

Speaker 9 (48:22):
Yeah, that's going to be a huge one. It's been
so interesting to see to see Anderson this year. They're
a team who I went out and I was at
their practice, gosh in August day one of practice and
just watching them, I was like, Okay, this team is
going to be Legitwise. On the other hand, new head coach,

(48:44):
you didn't really in my opinion, you didn't really know
what to acpect, and I think that they've kind of
blown expectations out of the water. They've been a team
to be the other game that I have my eyes
on this.

Speaker 8 (48:57):
Week with playoff implications. Booie Austin High. This game.

Speaker 9 (49:03):
You think Austin High they have beaten Atkins Aiken Excuse me?

Speaker 8 (49:08):
I said that on air once I got I know,
I wrote Atkins and.

Speaker 9 (49:15):
Aikins and Dell Valley two of the weaker teams in
Austin Like, they have not beaten anybody this year. So
this is like, oh, okay, it's Booe's to win, right,
Booie will go to the playoffs. This is essentially like
a playoff playing game. Whoever wins will make the playoffs.
But that's been the case for this game the past
two seasons, and each Shed Booe or each Shed Austin

(49:37):
High has come in as a massive underdog and they've won.
So that this is always a game that's just kind
of wonky uh and it has a massive implication. So
that tonight is our game of the week as well.
I'm gonna have highs on that one.

Speaker 1 (49:50):
The other one from last week was that Lake Travis
Westlake game where a lot of folks were shocked with
the outcome of that matchup. Obviously, I don't those two
teams are rivals. The battle of the Lakes, as they
like to say. And for Lake Travis to go over
there and win, I believe since the first time since
twenty nineteen. Yeah, I believe that was the number. That

(50:12):
was an impressive win for Lake Travis.

Speaker 9 (50:15):
Absolutely and on Drew brees night, Yeah, and on it
was Drew Brees' night.

Speaker 8 (50:19):
And it was Westlake's home coming.

Speaker 9 (50:21):
If you were Lake Travis, I could not have picked
a better time to get went over my rival for
the first time since pre COVID.

Speaker 8 (50:29):
Like most of these kids were not even in No,
they would have been in middle school.

Speaker 9 (50:34):
I'm not gonna ask, but they would have been very
young the last time.

Speaker 8 (50:38):
Travis P.

Speaker 3 (50:38):
Wesley, no doubt about it.

Speaker 1 (50:41):
Score prediction for Texas and Vanderbilt tomorrow.

Speaker 8 (50:46):
Okay, take the under on this one. I'm gonna go.

Speaker 9 (50:50):
I mean, gosh, Texas, I don't see them winning this
by a touchdown, like it's gonna be a close game again.

Speaker 8 (50:57):
I'm gonna go twenty seventeen.

Speaker 9 (51:00):
Give me Mason Shipley with a field goal to win
it in the fourth quarter.

Speaker 1 (51:06):
And after forty two days on the road, Dey Texas
Longhorse get a chance to come back home and play
in front of their fans, and as Chris del Conti
said yesterday, how the hell they give us a game
at eleven am after being on the road for four games,
and we said the same thing. We're the same way, bro,
because we got to be out.

Speaker 3 (51:23):
There early too.

Speaker 1 (51:25):
As always, we appreciate you taking the time and we
look forward to Friday night, fever tonight.

Speaker 3 (51:31):
Thank you.

Speaker 8 (51:31):
All right, Thanks guys, You'll take care.

Speaker 3 (51:33):
See you letter.

Speaker 1 (51:34):
Coming up next, we're going to talk to our guy,
Drew Martin of the University of Texas. He's excited to
let you know everything that is going on on the
forty acres and let's find out if he's a little
bit more excited for the Beach Boys.

Speaker 3 (51:48):
Coming into town.

Speaker 1 (51:49):
Right here on the Morning Kickoff on Sports Radio AM
thirteen hundred The Zone.

Speaker 3 (51:55):
Welcome back to the.

Speaker 1 (51:55):
Morning kickoff right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred
The Zone. We continue the party as we always do
on this football Friday, and what better way. Somebody that
knows how the party is the executive Senior Associate Athletic
Director of internal excuse me, external affairs. He is the

(52:17):
one and only Drew Martin. Good morning, Drew, How you doing, buddy?
Are you a mute yourself?

Speaker 2 (52:29):
That's usually what happens when I when I come on
the screen.

Speaker 1 (52:32):
Do you got him Marcus? Can you get him up?
He's on media on my side. You say something, now, Drew.
Sometimes you just got texts. Were gonna call Drew. We're
gonna call Drew since we can't get him. But he's

(52:55):
right there, and I want to talk to him because
that's my guy.

Speaker 3 (52:58):
Let's see what we got here. Can you hear us? True?

Speaker 6 (53:03):
I can hear you all.

Speaker 3 (53:10):
Buttons, now you got to say all that all over again.

Speaker 1 (53:16):
The gadgets of the computer. Well, good morning, thank you
for taking the jersey. Hey, this is okay. So Mark
is still the guy your put your back.

Speaker 3 (53:26):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (53:27):
So Mark comes in this morning and he's wearing this jersey.
He bought a spit platoon and all this other stuff
because he said he was Earl Campbell today. So that
was his style today. So that's how we get this
thing started. So this is the first time Texas will
be home in forty two days. I asked Chris yesterday

(53:48):
Chrystal Country yesterday. He was like, who does this? Who
puts a team on the road for this long? And
then gives them an eleven am game. Welcome to the SEC.
But you know what you do. You like to have fun,
So let's get to it. What is going on on
b Vote Boo Levart tomorrow?

Speaker 10 (54:08):
So I need to get that recording right there. Yeah no,
I mean we're we're treating this like a brand new season.

Speaker 2 (54:16):
Man.

Speaker 10 (54:16):
We've had six weeks off just about and uh, and
it's time to get the party started again. Eleven am
the morning after the after Halloween. Uh, that's gonna be
a challenge. But you know what, We're gonna have beautiful weather.
We got so many fun activities planned for everybody, all
the family.

Speaker 6 (54:33):
It's gonna be great.

Speaker 10 (54:34):
We got b Vote Boulevard, like you mentioned, we're gonna
keep the Halloween party going. Uh, it's gonna be a
lot of fun. We've got a live pumpkin carver. If
you can imagine that, she is going to carve a
five hundred pound pumpkin.

Speaker 6 (54:50):
What live right there?

Speaker 10 (54:54):
We gotta we gotta do it, we gotta do it.
We're taking the next level. We have the street artists,
we got the pumpkin carver.

Speaker 3 (55:02):
Wow, dude, this is what we really need to get done.

Speaker 2 (55:05):
We really need to let Hard skip the line so
he can get on the zip ride because he wanted
to take it, but he ain't want to stand in
the line.

Speaker 3 (55:14):
Let's do it. Let's do it.

Speaker 6 (55:15):
I'll get you off the fast passes. We'll get to
the front line. We'll get you up there.

Speaker 3 (55:23):
Great, Drew, I need you.

Speaker 1 (55:24):
To stop listening to Mark Henry when it comes to
those types of things, because there's not one day that
I've ever said that I wanted to do that. But
I know that you have been working hard, you and
your staff. Like you said, this is like a brand
new opening night again because you've been away for so
long and now everybody gets a chance to be back
down there. I know that the parking garage, the parking

(55:47):
lots open at six o'clock, but everything starts at eight
a m.

Speaker 3 (55:51):
Along with our show.

Speaker 6 (55:53):
Eight am, along with your show. We've got our three
parades like usual.

Speaker 10 (55:57):
We got an eight am bevo arrival, He's be coming
up the boulevard from the south. We got a nine
am Stadium Stampede with the team coming in from the corner.

Speaker 6 (56:06):
Of Beebo Boulevard, and Smooki's midway up near your show.

Speaker 10 (56:09):
They'll be coming down at nine and then ten am
the band will march in and it's gonna be a fantastic,
fantastic day.

Speaker 6 (56:16):
We've got so many fun things planned. My man Charles Branch.

Speaker 10 (56:20):
That puts all this stuff together, he's been working really,
really hard. I guess when you got six weeks and
no home games, you can come up with all kinds
of crazy.

Speaker 6 (56:26):
At We got the Beach Boys post game.

Speaker 10 (56:29):
How about that. That's gonna be fantastic. The night Owls
are gonna be pre game. They're gonna be out there
at eight thirty in the morning over at Longhorn City Limits,
presented by Hollister. It's gonna be fantastic out there. And
imagine this. This is our first home game since winning
that Golden Hat up in Dallas at Red River.

Speaker 6 (56:48):
The Golden Hat's gonna be on display. You better get
out there early.

Speaker 10 (56:51):
Football needs it for recruiting, so they're going they're gonna
need to have it by nine. So between eight and
nine am, you're gonna be able to get pictures with
the Golden Hat. But when it goes away at nine,
our fantastic baseball team is gonna be out there signing
autographs at nine am, Drew, so much fun. Plan We
got Pumpkin spice Moscow Mules. Up at Big Bertha's Bazar.

(57:13):
We're gonna be introducing a brand new collaboration with Farty
Fantastic Clothing brand, a brand new licensee for us. They're
gonna drop a new line tomorrow up at Big Bertha's Bazaar,
Moody Center, Dell Technology Plaza up there. There's just so
much to do tomorrow. You got to get out there early.
It's gonna be a beautiful day. The weather is gonna
be fantastic. It is actually fall football weather here in Austin, Texas.

Speaker 2 (57:37):
You gotta get there, Drew. Where's that location to get
the picture with the hat.

Speaker 10 (57:42):
It's on Bevo Boulevard. It's gonna be right there on
Bevau Boulevard. It's gonna be up near.

Speaker 6 (57:49):
I think it's up near Gate one, Okay.

Speaker 1 (57:51):
And then I also wanted to ask you this because
there's some news that came out that the two thousand
and five football National Championship Team a lot of those
guys will be here and get some recognition, right.

Speaker 3 (58:04):
I guess it's in the middle of the game, correct.

Speaker 10 (58:07):
Yeah, it's gonna be It's gonna be there at the game.
They're gonna have their reunion. We're gonna get in there early.
Make sure you see them. I hate to do this
to all three of us, but it's been twenty years. Yeah,
so it's twenty twenty years since two thousand and five.
If you do the math, stem seems like it was yesterday.
But we're excited to have them back on campus. Coach

(58:28):
mac Brown's gonna be here as well. It's gonna be
fantastic recognition.

Speaker 1 (58:31):
I love the fact that you guys are are being
able to recognize this team. And of course the main
thing is the team that is coming back is going
to be the Texas Longhorn football team playing in front
of the home crowd. You guys have done a great
job of directing traffic because of all the things that
are going on on campus. But I do want to

(58:53):
ask you this because you talked about Bevo's Bizarre or
the up there by the Footy Center. Correct, that's where
all that does. There's so many different vendors that are
there as well, right that you bring in locally.

Speaker 6 (59:08):
Yeah, there's about a dozen vendors that are up there.

Speaker 10 (59:10):
We try to rotate them through make it exciting for
the fans drop new lines like charity Line.

Speaker 6 (59:15):
But we've got.

Speaker 10 (59:16):
About a dozen vendors up there that you can shop.
It's never too early to start shopping for the holidays,
for sure. So we've only got three games left. Get
up there and get some unique Texas Longhorns product. It's
gonna be fantastic.

Speaker 3 (59:29):
You know.

Speaker 6 (59:29):
The other thing that we have going on.

Speaker 10 (59:30):
On campus up near Greg jim On Speedway, we have
SEC Nation. They're gonna be broadcasting live for the first
time this season from.

Speaker 6 (59:39):
The forty Acres. It's gonna be great.

Speaker 10 (59:40):
That show goes on the air at nine am, so
expect a good, big crowd up there as well.

Speaker 1 (59:45):
Yeah, and that's the other part about this, because not
only are we talking about the Texas football team, You've
got the Texas baseball team that is signing autographs, volleyball
team is kicking butt, basketball is getting ready to start,
and you still have swimming and diving and all the
different things that are going on on campus.

Speaker 3 (01:00:05):
And now the family.

Speaker 1 (01:00:06):
Is back together for the first time in forty two days.

Speaker 6 (01:00:10):
It'll be good to see everybody in Berna Orange.

Speaker 10 (01:00:12):
And that's the most exciting thing is just getting everybody
back on campus, getting the family, like you said, back together.
There's so many great things happening at the University of
Texas right now, and athletics and all across campus.

Speaker 6 (01:00:24):
It's just gonna be fun to have.

Speaker 10 (01:00:25):
Everybody, all one hundred and one thousand people back in
DKR tomorrow morning.

Speaker 6 (01:00:30):
We were looking forward to it.

Speaker 1 (01:00:31):
We're talking to Drew Martin and Drew I wanted to
ask you this because each year you guys try to
do something better, like bigger, better, even more stylish, and
we were talking to CDC about that, and obviously he
gives you guys a bunch of credit. But you went
to Mississippi State last week. Texas goes to Mississippi State

(01:00:54):
and everybody was talking about them dog on cow bells.

Speaker 3 (01:00:58):
How did you react to those cowboys?

Speaker 1 (01:01:00):
Where did you say, Man, I forgot all about these
dog long things.

Speaker 6 (01:01:05):
Well I didn't.

Speaker 10 (01:01:07):
I didn't forget about them because the dirty little secret
is me and my husband both went to Mississippi State,
so I grew up with those cowbells. It just sounded
like home to me. It was a welcome sound to
my ears and clearly clearly didn't affect our Longhorns. We
got out of there with the win. What a fantastic comeback.

(01:01:28):
I mean, that's a that's a team when you when
you watch a team, that's what seventeen points sound yep?
Come back and win a game like that. That that
speaks volumes about the heart and soul of the team
and our leader in Steve Sarkisian. I mean, it would
have been easy to lay down and play dead, and
that team was not about to do it.

Speaker 6 (01:01:48):
And to come roaring back and win the fashion that
we won, that speaks volumes about that football team right there.

Speaker 1 (01:01:54):
So one last time before we let you go, because
I know you got another meeting, But.

Speaker 3 (01:01:57):
Bevo Boo Levard.

Speaker 1 (01:01:59):
You got Big Bertha's bizarre, you got the photo ops
with the hat. You also have the night Outs performing
starting at eight thirty. You got the biggest thing that
everybody's talking about, the carving of a five hundred pound pumpkin.
What time does that start?

Speaker 2 (01:02:17):
Again?

Speaker 10 (01:02:19):
Everything starts tomorrow at eight am. And let's not forget
one of the most important elements of the day at
Darryl K. Royal Texas Memorial Stadium, it's salute to service.
So we're gonna salute all of our service men and women.
Fantastic day to celebrate them, celebrate all things Texas, including
our fantastic military. We're going to have the Veterans Yetie Cup.

Speaker 6 (01:02:39):
We're gonna have a Halloween Pumpkin Cup.

Speaker 10 (01:02:40):
For the first time, we have the Pink Cup celebrating
breast cancer awareness and all the research and wonderful progress
has been made in that area. So we're excited to
salute all of our servicemen and women Tomorrow.

Speaker 6 (01:02:53):
It's gonna be a fantastic day.

Speaker 10 (01:02:55):
And again that two thousand and five national championship team,
the Golden Hat.

Speaker 1 (01:02:59):
We've just got something for everybody tomorrow. That's right, that's
what happens. You got time when it's been forty two
days before you had a home game. As always, Drew
will appreciate you taking the time. Man, great stuff, keep
up the great work and we'll see you soon.

Speaker 3 (01:03:13):
And happy birthday to your guy.

Speaker 1 (01:03:16):
Appreciate that hook it got there is Drew Martin, the
man with the plan. Those guys are busy as all
get out when it comes to get making sure everybody
is having a great, great time.

Speaker 3 (01:03:31):
And guess what, y'all know what time it is.

Speaker 1 (01:03:34):
Wwe Hall of Famer and World's Strongest Man de Mark
Henry is coming with his World's Strongest Take right here
on the morning kickoff on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred
The Zone Great Stuff by Drew Martin of the University
of Texas.

Speaker 3 (01:03:49):
Make sure you get.

Speaker 1 (01:03:50):
Out to be vote Boo Loo hard well right now,
you know what time it is?

Speaker 3 (01:03:55):
You heard the music?

Speaker 1 (01:03:56):
Drop the one and only WWE Hall of Famer record
does as the World's Strongest Man, Dave Mark Henry brings
you his world's strongest take.

Speaker 3 (01:04:05):
Take it away, pick Philip.

Speaker 2 (01:04:07):
All right, yes, sir, you know what time it is, Thomas,
It's time for the World's Strongest Take by the world's
Strongest Man. My guess back then they didn't know me,
but now that I'm hot, they're all on me.

Speaker 3 (01:04:27):
All right, here we go, guys.

Speaker 2 (01:04:32):
The World's Strongest Take is brought to your inpoint by
human with two ends. Well, guys, we're going to take
a small trip seventy miles San Antonio, Texas. Victor Winding
Yama and the One Man Yayears.

Speaker 3 (01:04:55):
Are killing it.

Speaker 2 (01:04:57):
The Spurs are killing the guys like the first time
in franchise history that they've started five to zero. And
despite that first game against Dallas where they they blew
Dallas out, all the other games have been kind of close.
They've had to, you know, come back on teams, they've

(01:05:17):
had to sustain leads one score for score for score,
defensive play, and the Spurs win. It's a byproduct of
good coaching, but it's also a byproduct of Victor wind
and Yama being the second player in the history of
the NBA. Bob McAdoo did it back in seventy seven,

(01:05:42):
and now here we are in twenty twenty five and
Victor Winding Yama is averaging plus thirty points a game,
plus fifteen rebounds a game and a stat line of
five five five, second time in history and the only

(01:06:03):
guy of course doing it now. But it's it's the
way that he's doing it. You're averaging thirty points and
fifteen rebounds and five assists in five blocks and five rebounds,
I mean, uh, five steals like this.

Speaker 3 (01:06:21):
This has never been done.

Speaker 2 (01:06:23):
I mean it's second time that the scoring and the rebounding,
but his stat line is ridiculous. It's like a video game.
And my take is this, I underplayed the Spurs this year.
Last year, I said, the Spurs will win forty games
and next year they'll be really good, but they won't

(01:06:44):
be like championship good, but they will be good. I'm
changing my mind. I'm changing my mind about the Spurs.
I think that this is a season that the Spurs
can win a championship because they match up with every
team in the league. And we talked about the three

(01:07:05):
headed monster at guard, like they're gonna be hard to
match up with with winnin Yama sometimes playing small forward
and power forward, not even playing center. Is they didn't
just have too many options?

Speaker 3 (01:07:23):
What say you? I mean, the facts are the facts.

Speaker 1 (01:07:27):
I mean, this is a very talented basketball team and
they're doing it on every level. I got a chance
to listen to the coach of the San Antonio Spurs
talked to his team during a time out, and it
was more about the concentration level of being able to
execute at your job, and it wasn't always about the

(01:07:52):
x's and o's. It was more about effort. That's the
one thing that you can always control is your effort.
And if you're out there playing the way that you
are that you're capable of, every team is going to
have a problem with you because of the ability of
a win bin Yama, because even if you get beat,
it's not for sure that those guys are going to

(01:08:13):
be able to make the bucket because he's such a
threat on the inside because of his wingspan, and he
seems to truly be enjoying himself playing basketball. The way,
the smile, the infectious energy that he gives to his
teammates are making it fun. And that's why I think

(01:08:35):
a lot of people, to your point, are looking at
this team. I'm not saying they're going to be a
championship team because there's so many variables that have to
go through this, but they are definitely a team who,
for the first time in their history, their history, won
five games in a row. Let me talking about being
five and zero for the first time ever.

Speaker 2 (01:08:56):
And when we talk about their history, they've won multiple
multiple championship five of them five. Yeah, and you have
two of the greatest players in Spurs history, Tim Duncan
and David Robinson, Like those guys still did not do
what Tim has done, I mean what Wimby has done.

Speaker 3 (01:09:17):
Yeah. Yeah, how nuts is that?

Speaker 1 (01:09:20):
It's amazing when you sit back and you think about
what we're witnessing when it comes to him. But I
believe it's across the NBA too, because scoring is up.
Guys are being able to get to the basket shooting
a lot of free throws. But the excitement around certain
players is genuine. People are excited to watch Wimby play.

Speaker 2 (01:09:42):
This is gonna be a hard ticket to get here
in about five more games when they're I was gonna say,
in about five more minutes, it's gonna be tough to
get better. Hope your neighbors are giving out some season tickets.
Trigger Treating doing the right because it falls on the weekend.
Great take by the world's strongest man. And as always,
we're gonna close out the show. Send you to Dan Patrick.

Speaker 1 (01:10:03):
We got a lot of action tonight, and of course
we're gonna tell you where we're gonna be tomorrow right
here on the morning kickoff on Sports Radio AM thirteen
hundred the Zone. What an unbelievable week we have had
here leading up to the Texas Longhorns taking on the
Vanderbilt Commodorees eleven am kickoff from DKR Texas Memorial Stadium,

(01:10:26):
forty two days since they've last played a home game.
That will end tomorrow, we'll get your day started right
here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone, starting
at seven am with Third and Longhorn kicking it off.
You can listen to those guys great insight leading up
to our show from eight to ten am Longhorn Game

(01:10:48):
Day Live from Bevo Boulevard and hook them hangout all
We will be right there by all the food trucks then,
of course we will.

Speaker 3 (01:10:58):
Then of course you.

Speaker 1 (01:10:58):
Will be able to hear Roger Wallace, Craig Way, the
voice of the Texas Longhorns, and of course will Matthews
as they lead you up to the kickoff starting at
ten o'clock with network coverage. We'll have special guests tomorrow,
so make sure that you're tuned in, or since you're
gonna be at the stadium, come by and say hello.

(01:11:20):
It's gonna be a little chilly, but make sure you're
good to go. And also, if you're a YouTube subscriber,
I hate to inform you that EESPN, Disney Network, and
YouTube couldnot come to an agreement, so now you have
to find another way to view.

Speaker 3 (01:11:41):
All of your sports.

Speaker 1 (01:11:43):
YouTube and Disney and ESPN are not in agreement, so
you have to find a new way to watch everything
starting tomorrow. Unbelievable how this continues to happen. But tonight
there's some excitement. There's some excitement. Major League Baseball World

(01:12:05):
Series Game six in Toronto. The last time a Canadian
team won the World Series was nineteen ninety three and
it was the Toronto Blue Jays beating the Philadelphia Phillies.
Exciting time, first pitch at seven o'clock. Do or die
for the Dodgers?

Speaker 2 (01:12:24):
Die?

Speaker 3 (01:12:24):
What do you think?

Speaker 2 (01:12:25):
I mean?

Speaker 3 (01:12:25):
I'm nervous for Craig Way.

Speaker 2 (01:12:29):
Yeah, but I wanted to hear your analysis of what
you think will happen and how they'll come out.

Speaker 1 (01:12:35):
Well, the simple thing for me is they got their
best picture going. For the Dodgers, he's done two complete
games in the playoffs. He has been dealing. The problem
is the Dodgers' bats have been silent. The stars have
not been stars. Mookie Betts said, I've just been terrible.
Freddie Freeman, even though he hit the game winning home

(01:12:56):
run to walk it off in eighteen innings, he hadn't
been him himself. Obviously, show Hey struggled last week. But
the thing about the Toronto Blue Jays, they keep coming
at you no matter what is going on.

Speaker 3 (01:13:09):
They swing the back.

Speaker 1 (01:13:10):
They're averaging six and a half runs a game like
they're swinging the bats, and that energy at home for
this team because they've been focused and talked about that.
This is the most focused that they have been in
Vladimir Guerrero Junior continues to say, the job is not done.
The job is not done. He's about to get the show.

(01:13:32):
Hey treatment, he's about to be walked. If you're smart,
you're not pitching to me.

Speaker 3 (01:13:38):
Yeah, you're not.

Speaker 1 (01:13:38):
Because he's barrowing the baseball and every swing is to
do damage. It's not a self defense swing. It is
I'm trying to do damage every time that ball is close.
So it'll be an interesting look when all that happens. So,
so to answer your question, if it gets to a

(01:13:59):
game seven, obviously, Captain obvious here anything can go. But
I think Toronto finishes it off tonight unless, like I said,
Yama Moto comes out there and is dealing like he
has been the last couple of games. That's why it's
perfect for the Dodgers that he is the starting pitcher today.

Speaker 2 (01:14:15):
Could could they bring in another ace to relieve just
in case.

Speaker 3 (01:14:23):
Can't get it done. I mean, it's all hands on deck, everybody.

Speaker 1 (01:14:26):
Every There is no tomorrow, so everybody, everybody's available. Everybody,
even the starter for tomorrow is available for today because
you got to get to Game seven or to even matter.
So it's a real, real turning point for the Dodgers.
They have to put the ball in play. Like I said,
they haven't been able to hit at all, so situationally,

(01:14:49):
they haven't driven in any runs. They haven't had a
ton of extra base hits with runners in scoring position,
so it's been it's been tough sledding for the do Also,
there's some college football games this weekend that are met big.
When we talked about it, we got NFL action as well.

(01:15:10):
But to and Andre Sweat a man who kind of
reminds me of you, Mark, because he's kind of humorous,
and it's never about looks promise you that, I.

Speaker 3 (01:15:22):
Promise you that, I promise you that.

Speaker 1 (01:15:25):
It's more about thinking that he's witty and being able
to say certain things and thinking, oh, yeah, that's that's
normal for them to say. So this weekend, the Tennessee
Titans will be taking on Justin Herbert and the Chargers
and to Andre had this to say about what America

(01:15:45):
thinks the perfect quarterback, well, at least in his eyes,
looks like, who's a fast guy.

Speaker 3 (01:15:51):
He's like your perfect quarterback, you know, so just get there.

Speaker 8 (01:15:55):
Honestly, what makes him the perfect quarterback?

Speaker 3 (01:16:00):
White guy? Fast?

Speaker 6 (01:16:04):
Right?

Speaker 3 (01:16:05):
I mean everybody knows that.

Speaker 2 (01:16:10):
It's true, he said, yeah, because everybody was like.

Speaker 3 (01:16:21):
They were laughing. They were laughing though he said it's true.
That's what he said.

Speaker 1 (01:16:25):
That's what he said, so like somebody else, I know,
just that's what America.

Speaker 2 (01:16:31):
Hold on.

Speaker 3 (01:16:31):
Second, I haven't heard Mark Henry make any comments. No,
not about that. That's not about those things.

Speaker 1 (01:16:38):
It's the comments that Mark Henry makes at times.

Speaker 3 (01:16:42):
He listen.

Speaker 2 (01:16:42):
I can't help out having an abundance of personality, sir.

Speaker 11 (01:16:46):
I make no apologies. They call that multiple. Multiple. You
don't have an abundance, you have multiple. It's kind of illness.
Some people call i'll I'm not afraid of a moment.

(01:17:06):
That's what it is. Some people have limitations.

Speaker 2 (01:17:09):
It's like it's like the matrix always make movie references.
Once once he believes he's him, he's bad. I'm unplugged, man,
