right away because last night in the NFL, will was
a matchup that did not look like it was going

(02:03):
to end the way that it did. What do I
mean by that, Well, if you look at the injury
report of the San Francisco forty nine ers, you thought
there would be no way, no way, no how they
were going to get an opportunity to win that ball.

Speaker 3 (02:21):
Game.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
But as we always say, that's why you play the game,
and you play to win the game. And Mac Jones,
who Mac Jones decided to show up, but there needed
to be a couple of defensive stops that happened, and
a former Texas Longhorn decided, well, let me announce my

(02:42):
presence right now.

Speaker 4 (02:46):
William did he get in? Please sit down. He was
the ball coming out and the coach the other way
and the collage a fumble in San Francisco.

Speaker 3 (03:01):
Ball, Wow, I.

Speaker 5 (03:05):
Think he got it out of there. He'll come from
our left. You'll see a big hand coming right there.

Speaker 3 (03:10):
Knock that ball.

Speaker 5 (03:11):
It's at as a fumble and the big fellow, the
rookie out of Texas fixed maybe the player of the game,
second round pick.

Speaker 4 (03:21):
Absolutely the player of the game.

Speaker 5 (03:24):
Now right away, my brain goes into a minute two
you're at your own one yard line and the Rams
have all three timeouts.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
Boom, big play out for Collins, big Ac making his
presence known in the NFL.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
He made a play just as big It just wasn't
sensationalized on the goal line play the last play. They
double teamed him, try to root him out and couldn't
do it. He didn't give one inch and then the
linebacker was able to come off his left shoulder, hit
the running back in the backfield and stop Williams.

Speaker 3 (04:03):
They didn't get a first.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
Down and thus turn the ball over and losing the game.
He forced two turnovers that caused San Francisco to win
that game.

Speaker 3 (04:14):
That is absolutely impressive.

Speaker 1 (04:16):
He was actually the one who helped stop this fourth
down play as the forty nine Ers end up winning
the ball game. As the Rams were trying to drive
to tie it or to take the win.

Speaker 4 (04:31):
On the ground, does he make that It doesn't look
like another bull is out? When did it come out?
The forty nine ers think they have stopped him short.
They're already on the field, they're already celebrating.

Speaker 5 (04:43):
Watch the effort here and here to allow thirty six
to come in and.

Speaker 3 (04:49):
Keep him short. They eat it up. Boom, that hit
right there.

Speaker 5 (04:52):
As sure as the Kyra Williams can't get to that
first down line, try to get to the ten yard line.
Fred Warner comes in, Chase Lucas comes hit twenty six,
and then that hit right there assures the Niners victory
one more.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
Look, that's what it's all about, right, there alpha Collins making.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
Plays day in and day out, and.

Speaker 1 (05:13):
They just continue continue to find a way to get
it done.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
I don't know how they was able to put that
game play together because they looked like equally as good
a team as the Rams, even with their backups, right, Like,
how good is San Francisco going to be when they
get their stars back?

Speaker 1 (05:33):
That's the key. But here's the other part of it.
Mac Jones looks like he belongs in that offense.

Speaker 3 (05:41):
He had a career night last night.

Speaker 1 (05:43):
And a while back, Let's not forget there was a
moment in time where the San Francisco forty nine ers
wanted mac Jones. They didn't get him because he was
drafted so high, so he was already off the board,
and that's when they ended up with Rock Party. Now
people have already said and dan Orlowski said this a
while back, I think in twenty twenty three.

Speaker 3 (06:05):
He said this.

Speaker 1 (06:07):
He believed that if mac Jones was in the forty
nine ers offense, he would be what brock Purty is
to this offense right now. And he seems to be correct.
And my son was talking about this too. He's like,
this is a plug and play type of offense, and
all you have to do is know where the ball

(06:29):
is supposed to go. If you go back and watch
that film, every time he dropped back, by the time
he got to his back foot, he knew where.

Speaker 3 (06:36):
He already was gone.

Speaker 1 (06:38):
The ball was out, the ball was out. And those
are the types of things when you look at that
type of offense, you see the intricacies that were in there.
But you know what else helps you when you got
a healthy Christian McCaffrey as well.

Speaker 2 (06:51):
Man, that dude is so shifty. Yeah, and I'm Marcus
Will will probably remember the fact that there was a
guy that played for the Texans, Aaron Foster. Remember how
hard it was to get a shot on him, how
he just could turnside and get and.

Speaker 3 (07:13):
Just go forward.

Speaker 2 (07:15):
McCaffrey has that ability. You can't get a clean shot
on him. And the reason he gets he misses games
and gets hurt is because he's trying to overdo it.
If he ever finally gets to realize, hey, I don't
have to win the game myself.

Speaker 3 (07:31):
Let my team beat people, he.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
Won't get hurt as much because he won't put his
body on the line.

Speaker 1 (07:37):
Yeah, whenever he's on the field, that San Francisco offense
just seems to work effortlessly. I mean, it is so
smooth because he can catch passes out of the backfield.

Speaker 3 (07:50):
He could also rush the football.

Speaker 1 (07:52):
Last night, it wasn't a good rushing night, but it
was a great night coming out of the backfield and
being able to continue to more for both batchs. Yeah,
moving the chains and Jordan Whittingham was doing really good,
really in the ball game. Now, Mike goodness, you heard
him right there when he was talking about the fumble.

Speaker 3 (08:13):
On did he get it?

Speaker 2 (08:15):
On?

Speaker 3 (08:15):
Is the ball?

Speaker 6 (08:16):
Wait?

Speaker 3 (08:16):
Is the ball out?

Speaker 1 (08:17):
I mean, he struggled last night, and there are nights
like that.

Speaker 3 (08:22):
I've been in there where it's tough.

Speaker 1 (08:24):
I'm not the play by play, but I'm the analyst
and it's been a little tough at times. But he's
a legend and people were worried about him last night
when he was calling that game. So the forty nine
ers are now four and one. The La Rams, who
I still believe in, is now sitting at three and
two in the NFC West. If you would have told

(08:45):
me last night, real talk, if that was going to
be the game and that's what they were going to do,
I would not have believed you, because that injury report
was as long as a CBS receipt.

Speaker 3 (09:00):
It was that long.

Speaker 1 (09:01):
So wow, to look at it, you're like, wow, how
are they going to be able to get these wins?
But they found a way to get it done, and
a lot of folks were really impressed with what they
saw from Mac Jones.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
Like when you saw yesterday, I picked the Rams to
win that game by ten. I mean, when you get
a double digit expectation and then you don't get that,
you get the game. They were down fourteen to nothing quick,
like really really fast. Yeah, quick, And I just don't understand.

(09:37):
I thought that the call that the Rams made at
that last.

Speaker 1 (09:43):
Play was not the play to make. Like they had
success the whole night though, running short yardage, Yeah, but.

Speaker 2 (09:50):
That play was I mean, you run straight at the
teeth of the defense.

Speaker 3 (09:54):
They blew that up. Their defense is fast too. Yeah.
I'd have ran away from that. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (09:59):
Or I would have put the ball and Aaron in
Matt Stafford's hands. He had been killing them all night long.
I mean I would have let him. If I was
gonna go forward on fourth down, I would have gave
it to the quarterback.

Speaker 3 (10:12):
That is one of the still has a lethal arm.

Speaker 1 (10:16):
Jordan Whittington dropped the ball right in his hands last night.
Kyn Williams dropped the ball right in his hand. Kyen
Williams has a fumbling problem as well, if he doesn't
fumble on the goal line. They scored the game exactly,
So tough, tough look right there for what the ramp
who the Rams are, but a great win for the

(10:36):
forty nine ers. And you know, it's just always funny
too because you look on the sidelines and you look
at Kyle Shanahan and you look at Sean McVay.

Speaker 3 (10:45):
Both of these guys have egos.

Speaker 1 (10:47):
Both of these guys think they're the best offensive mind
in the game, and they were battling to the very end.

Speaker 2 (10:53):
Well, they came out with something I thought was very
interesting last night, and they said that Kyle Shanahan is
eleven and six against against the Rams and against McVeigh,
so he actually he knows he's got the secret sauce.

Speaker 1 (11:11):
They better find a new defensive coordinator to try to
counteract what the forty nine ers are doing.

Speaker 3 (11:16):
Right.

Speaker 1 (11:16):
So, uh, by the way, Mark, you're old and one
to start the weekend, and man Marcus is one.

Speaker 3 (11:22):
Of them, because y'all w had to end. You just
wanted to make sure that everybody else I.

Speaker 6 (11:28):
Told you, What did I tell you? Didn't I tell you?

Speaker 3 (11:31):
Cous I told you?

Speaker 6 (11:33):
And when did I tell you? A long time ago?
And what did I say?

Speaker 3 (11:37):
What happened? When I told you? Exactly what just happened?

Speaker 1 (11:41):
Feel Good Football Friday continues at the moment we'll hear
from coach Sark right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred.
Does not only does our block run orange, the whole
station runs orange, because we are your home from Texas
football on this feel Good Football Friday. You can make
sure you tune in to tomorrow morning starting at eleven

(12:02):
thirty as myself, Mark Henry, and our guy Cam Parker
bring you Longhorn Game Day. But before that you can
tune in to Third and Longhorn, and then we get
to Craigway, Roger Wallace, and Will Matthews from the swamp
in Gainesville, Florida, as the Texas Longhorns get ready to

(12:24):
take on the Florida Gators.

Speaker 3 (12:25):
There's supposed to be some inclement weather.

Speaker 1 (12:28):
We don't know how much rain it's going to be,
but it is going to be a big day for
Texas as This will be Texas's first SEC matchup of
the year, and they are the last team to play
an SEC matchup this season, which is kind of crazy
when you think about it. Mississippi, Oh Miss has already

(12:51):
played three SEC matchups already, which is really crazy. But
right now, we want you to hear from coach Sark.
He had his final media availability as Texas gets ready
to go to Gainesville, but Sark is looking forward to
the challenge.

Speaker 3 (13:07):
We're obviously very excited SEC opener. You know.

Speaker 7 (13:12):
We we kind of wrapped up what we would call
the preseason, the four non conference games, and now we're
in the kind of regular season play and we've we've
got eight straight you know, SEC ball games, kicking it
off Saturday at the Swamp against Florida. We talked about
when we first got into the SEC, the opportunity to
go play in some of the best venues, uh in

(13:33):
the country.

Speaker 3 (13:34):
UH, and the Swamp is definitely one of those.

Speaker 7 (13:36):
And UH it's it's tough environment against a really good team,
very talented team, a team with a lot of depth,
a great roster that has been close against some.

Speaker 3 (13:46):
Really good opponents.

Speaker 7 (13:47):
UH.

Speaker 3 (13:47):
So we definitely have our work cut out for us.

Speaker 7 (13:49):
But I can tell you from our team's perspective, our
guys are really excited to play in this game. They've
they've I've said that, you know, been commending them for
weeks now, but this week even more than ever. I
mean the sense of urgency that these guys that practice
with this week, the intent, the energy, the physicality and
the speed of which they practice this week been thoroughly

(14:10):
impressed and so looking forward to watching these guys go
out and compete Saturday at three thirty.

Speaker 1 (14:16):
So you start to look at this and you understand
that having that time off, being rested, and now being
able to get back onto the football field, I think
it was important to understand that these guys appreciate the
process during that time, especially when you're away from it
for a while, like you used to playing and practicing,

(14:37):
and you go through this stretch of like you said,
this is the first quarter, Texas three and one in
the first quarter. Now we're going into the second quarter
of the season where you go on this run of
these four games, but it starts tomorrow at two thirty.
Is the first step in trying to push yourself into
not only the college football playoffs, but also an SEC

(14:58):
matchup for a SC championship.

Speaker 3 (15:01):
Well, he would never say it, so that's why we're here, right.

Speaker 2 (15:05):
He would never say that there was a preseason until
after the preseason was over.

Speaker 3 (15:11):
So now that they're into the meet of.

Speaker 2 (15:16):
Their schedule and appetizers are over with, of course these
guys are fired up and ready to go because this
is what decides on whether or not you're going to
be playing in January, in late December, this is where
this is where you have to really start. And they're excited.

(15:37):
I can see them training and practicing well, they want
to show out and make sure they.

Speaker 3 (15:42):
Get in the game. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (15:43):
And so now going back to Florida, Texas has quite
a few Florida Gators, I mean Florida Gators Florida natives
that are going back home. And one of those guys
is Jered Gibson, who is literally going back home because
he is from Gainesville. But the part about it to
me is the growth that he has and what he's

(16:04):
done since last year the fumbling issues. Now he's getting
a chance to come back and play in front of
the home crowd.

Speaker 7 (16:12):
I'd say for Jeric in particular. To start off on him,
I think the best game he had last season was
actually against Florida. I think he had one hundred yard
game a year ago in this one. You know, I
think that he's found a niche in a role. I
think he you know, we've continue to try to expand
his running style. But at the end of the day,
he's a physical runner, he's a downhill runner. He gets

(16:33):
behind his pads. You know, I think he learned a
valuable lesson. You know, I Kim early in the season,
Cameron which game when when the ball got out and
he lost, you know, lost to fumble there, and has
really made it a point of emphasis with his running
style how important it is to protect the ball. But
he but he gives us a different style runner when
he's in the game, with the physicality in which he does.

Speaker 3 (16:54):
He's a great short yardage back. And I know he's
excited to go home.

Speaker 7 (16:59):
You know, we've we've obviously expanded our net when it
comes to recruiting, and and we have recruited Florida probably
more than recently than we have in the past. And
whether it was you know, Cedric Baxter or or or
Jerrick or Grayson Littleton or Jamie French or Myron Charles,

(17:19):
and we've got we've got a fair amount of guys
on this team that are that are from the state
of Florida. We have a couple of guys on the
team that were committed to Florida and then ended up
committing and playing for US, and so you know, there's
definitely some crossover there. But but I know it's a
big deal when those guys get an opportunity to go home.
That's a very proud football state as well. Uh so
I know they're all looking forward to the opportunity.

Speaker 2 (17:41):
I would give my guys reps too, the guys that
I was able to recruit from the state of Florida
and guys that winning fit.

Speaker 3 (17:50):
I was just about to say, I'm not.

Speaker 2 (17:52):
Gonna shove it in there just because, but but as
if you want to if you want to recruit area,
then you want to be able to say no, I
play my guys, Yeah you go home. We're gonna get
a heavy doze of you. And I can see Baby
Rhino being able to pour it on. Just keep both

(18:14):
hands on the ball and go straight ahead, don't try
to do too much.

Speaker 1 (18:17):
Yeah, I think maybe Rohino's gonna be just fun. He's
obviously been getting a bulk of the carries here lately.
He's leading the team in Russian, to be quite honest
with you right now, But you also have Trey Wisner back,
and Trey Wisner is the bell cow of this a
thousand yard rusher. But yes, you want to be able

(18:38):
to flip them and be able to switch them in
and out and make it pretty much seamless when you
look at it. But you got a guy like Jamie
French Junior, who a lot of folks were expecting a
lot from. And then you got another guy, Grayson Lyttleton,
who has been giving us a lot at that dB position.
So Texas is going through the injury reports and there's

(18:59):
a lot of guys that are gonna get a chance
to play. And speaking of the injury report, and one
guy who has yet to touch the field is Emmitt
Mosley the fifth and coach talked about his status and
what it looks like with him on the field.

Speaker 7 (19:14):
I love Emmitt as a player, you know I should.
I wish we had him this my first first four
games this season. You know, he is a very dynamic
player for Stanford.

Speaker 3 (19:23):

Speaker 7 (19:24):
He's a guy that has length, very good hands, he's sudden,
he's a really good route runner. You know, obviously he's
a he's an elite blocker. And and what it does
it now, it really gives you that third receiver that
has some length to him. You know, obviously with what
Ryan's length and Parker's length and now and now Emmett's

(19:44):
length and so and a guy with experience, a guy
who's played and now with Parker's experience and Ryan, those
three guys, you know, provide a little something different to
go along with, you know, DeAndre and then Dala McCutcheon.
I feel like we're we're starting to formulate that that
kind of group that we were hoping to have. But
it's great to have in it. You know, he's a
guy that has really worked hard to get back healthy.

(20:08):
You know, he's got a pro mentality about his approach.
I think not only is he good for the room
in his approach to I think he's good for our team.
He's good for our offense in particular that way with
just his approach to the way that he works.

Speaker 1 (20:21):
He's a worker and he's ready to get on the
field and obviously there's gonna be some chemistry that is
going to take place as well. So we'll see what
he brings to this offense, hopefully on Saturday at two thirty.
But the main thing about this Texas football team is
going on the road and being able.

Speaker 3 (20:40):
To start fast.

Speaker 1 (20:41):
They've had it struggles not scoring early in the ball game.
Last week was the first week where they went out
and really put the pedal to the floor. And now
let's see what they do on the road. And coach
talked about the fast road start. I feel like it's
always important, you know.

Speaker 7 (20:58):
I mean, if I have my drothers, you know, I've
already told you we'd kick off three and out, they
punt it and we get good field position and go
score right, and then I know I'm getting the ball
to start the second half. But yeah, it'd be great,
you know. And it's like I said, it's a great environment.
And anytime you can neutralize a crowd, uh, it's it's obviously,
you know, very helpful when you can do that and

(21:20):
controlling the ball and and and you know, trying to
you know, create some explosive plays and creating turnovers on
defense and doing some things to try to you know,
take some of the air out of a crowd.

Speaker 3 (21:30):
I think is important.

Speaker 7 (21:32):
But probably more important to start fast is this is
a good team, and uh, you know, you want to
maximize your opportunities that you're going up when you're playing
against a team like this, because you don't know how
many you have, and so you know their their ability
to run the football and possess the ball is one
of their strengths, and so how many possessions are there
going to be in the game. You need to maximize
those opportunities. You need to score touchdowns in the red area,

(21:56):
we need to create some vertical field position.

Speaker 3 (21:58):
And with our special teams unit, they're very good as well.

Speaker 7 (22:01):
So there's a lot of there's a lot of storylines
to this game, one of which is starting fast and
it's you know, it'd be great if we can do that.
You know, if we don't, that's not the end of
the world. We can still play good and still win
a game. But it would be nice to start fast
and to kind of strike first and being attack mode
that way.

Speaker 3 (22:19):
I love it. Yeah, I love that attack them go first.

Speaker 1 (22:24):
And that is why Texas has to be able to
get out there and make things happen right away, and
if they can do that, they take the crowd out
of the ballgame and it changes the way everybody looks
at this team.

Speaker 3 (22:38):
So good stuff from coach sar. Coming up next, we're.

Speaker 1 (22:41):
Gonna talk Texas Tech.

Speaker 3 (22:43):
They spending all that money and is it paying off
for them?

Speaker 1 (22:46):
We're gonna talk to my guy Lance Lanner coming up
right now on the Morning Kickoff on sports Radio AM
thirteen hundred The Zone.

Speaker 3 (22:54):
Welcome back to the.

Speaker 1 (22:55):
Morning Kickoff right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred
The Zon. Exciting times as the Texas Tech Red Raiders
are playing some outstanding football thus far. But it's the
best thing that money can buy. And what better way
to kick off this football Friday and going and talking

(23:16):
to my guy Lance Leonard of the host.

Speaker 3 (23:19):
He's the host of the Drive at.

Speaker 1 (23:21):
Five Monday through Friday five pm up in Amarillo, and
I've spent a lot of time on that show as well.

Speaker 3 (23:30):
Lance. How you doing, buddy man.

Speaker 8 (23:32):
I couldn't be better talking to the legend Mike harje
and the home of Terry Funk and my guy Mark Henry.

Speaker 1 (23:42):
I know you've been wanting to get on this part
of the show and right now.

Speaker 3 (23:46):
That perfect time because.

Speaker 1 (23:47):
Your Texas Tech Red Raiders are one of the hottest
teams in the country. Obviously, there was a lot of
money spent during the off season, and that leads into
a lot of the conversation. But just because the money's
and you don't go out there and perform as something
totally different. They'll get their second test after they went
to Utah and handle Utah, and now they'll take on

(24:09):
the Houston Cougars, who are playing some good football as well.

Speaker 6 (24:14):
Yeah. No, very well said. I like it.

Speaker 8 (24:16):
I think the perception is the best team money can buy,
and they deal with that daily. They they they ride
with that though, Mike, you know what I mean. It's
like this is okay, tag us this, but we're gonna
we're better than that. As far as just like the
overall team, here's the three things you guys need to
know real quick, if you don't mind, when they take

(24:37):
the field, they finally look like an SEC line. Okay
that when's the last time you saw that? Never the tackles,
for instance, six' eight Howard Sampson and then Jacob Pontin's
over on the right side, but he's six eight three
h five six eight three forty left guard Will Jacob
is six seven to three h five.

Speaker 6 (24:58):
That's never been at Texas Tech.

Speaker 8 (25:00):
Now the billionaire boy, my guy Cody Campbell from Canyon,
Texas by the way, just down the road from Amarillo,
former offensive lineman at Texas Tech. So he built he
helped build this line with the billions and number two,
they have the sec line.

Speaker 6 (25:19):
Number two.

Speaker 8 (25:20):
Mark the last time Texas Tech could win a game
on defense.

Speaker 6 (25:25):
You were bench pressing one hundred pounds, brother.

Speaker 8 (25:28):
Okay, ago, But they go out and win a game
on defense. They have possible draft picks at all three
levels on the line at linebacker and Jacob Rodriguez, and
then the secondary could really run and fly for the
first time in forever and get it covered. That's number,

(25:49):
by the way, that number is. Here's a stat for
you guys. I say, for you, Tech has not allowed
a touchdown through the first three quarters this year.

Speaker 6 (25:58):
Okay, now, I admit it.

Speaker 8 (26:00):
They opened up Mike with Love It Coronado, Lovic Monterey,
love It Cot you know what I mean, Darkinsaw, Pine Bluff,
and it's a bad Oregon State team. Let's get real
and the kind of showed that you know that their
test was Utah and like you said, it'll be again
this week week down in Houston. So they have that

(26:20):
going for him, the defense, but no touchdowns for three quarters.

Speaker 6 (26:24):
That'spress you played and and.

Speaker 8 (26:28):
And then third of all, uh, you know they they
just the strength of schedule is gonna be They're gonna
have to defend that all year, you know what I mean.
Let's get real, really at Arizona State is the one
marquee game in their future. I'm not I'm not looking
ahead and say they're gonna just totally run the table.

Speaker 6 (26:46):
But that's what you're gonna have to.

Speaker 8 (26:48):
Defend throughout the year, guys, and and they just have
to handle They'm not gonna get any love in the polls,
any love nationally by who they beat going down the road.

Speaker 6 (26:58):
I think that's great.

Speaker 8 (26:59):
Things you have to look at and then sell out
some and love it.

Speaker 6 (27:02):
It's a it's a weird world.

Speaker 3 (27:04):
Up your mic.

Speaker 8 (27:04):
You lived in the eight o six for a while
at that place rocks. Okay that they've rebuilt that stadium,
it's gorgeous. One of the biggest changes in the last
twenty years is in Lubbock, Texas.

Speaker 2 (27:16):
You're gonna get no arguments from Mike Hargon myself about
spending money. We want we want every team to spend money.
We want every team to recruit, go out and get
the best portal players. That's if that's the new system
we we We're not.

Speaker 3 (27:34):
Coach Sark talks about it.

Speaker 2 (27:36):
He's like, if you're not gonna go into the modern era,
then you're gonna be.

Speaker 3 (27:40):
Extinct like the dinosaurs.

Speaker 2 (27:42):
Like the whole philosophy of Diabo Sweeney and a few
other coaches that feel like, no, we don't want to
get we don't want to conform to that system. That's
why the team's losing. So if if Texas Tech is
about that life and they want to be on a
national they got the money and.

Speaker 3 (28:03):
The donors to spend it, then do it.

Speaker 2 (28:07):
The better Texas looks to me, the better I want
all of the best athletes to be able to stay
in the state of Texas and to be able to
play and not have to leave and go other places.

Speaker 8 (28:19):
I like it a lot of Obviously, look at what
happened in Oklahoma State. You know he was kind of
dinosaur in it, and it cost him his job. In
my opinion, yes, yes, I will say this mark. You know,
you don't become a billionaire by accident, obviously, you know
what I mean. I mean, you just don't. So Cody
Campbell's a very smart guy. They saw the formula that

(28:40):
they could abuse isn't the word, but like you said,
spend the bucks. No one's going to stop you. And
that's what they've done and it may go away. You
guys all know it's such fluid right now with this
whole nil thing. But they have a model and they
went out and bought it one thing real quick. Guys,
did you think they would go out and get like

(29:00):
the next Tom Brady at quarterback?

Speaker 9 (29:02):
Though?

Speaker 6 (29:03):
They stuck. They stuck with Baron Morton. My guy, Joy McGuire.

Speaker 8 (29:09):
Is a Baron Morton backer. You guys were both athletes.
When you have a coach who's backing you like that,
it's a confidence boost. Okay, But we got a quarterback
contversy about to happen in love it.

Speaker 6 (29:21):
Will Hammond came on, Utah, eyes don't lie.

Speaker 8 (29:25):
Who looks better moving the team Will Hammond not Baron Morton.

Speaker 1 (29:31):
Let me tell you something, as somebody who has seen
Will Hemmon here from Huddo, Texas in the file and
two you also got the Joiner Boys, You got everybody
from this area that and the Dicky Boys that are
actually giving you something every single week. It is impressive
to see what Texas Tech has been able to achieve

(29:53):
in such a short period of time. With all that
being said, in the in the flowers that we've been
giving Texas Tech, how do you think they fared this
weekend against University of Houston.

Speaker 8 (30:04):
I think, you know, I think what they showed what
they're about in the Utah game, Mike, So I really don't.
I think Houston's going to be surprised what Tech brings
on those interior fronts. Like I said, in the trenches,
it's just different. Okay, it's just different right now for Tech,
and I think that will be an overwhelming impact that

(30:25):
will have. The other thing, guys, that money has bought
is depth. They actually have some second string ballplayers or
whatever you want to call them, but they're just as
good as the starters. It's a coach's decision. It's left
which on the OC and Wood on the DC. They
actually have a decision to make that hasn't been alive
in love It for a long time. So that money

(30:47):
has bought depth, and I think that pays off in
games like against Houston where they could just the next
guy up is fresh and he's just as good as
the guy I just saw.

Speaker 1 (30:56):
Before we let you go, I wanted to ask you
about baseball. You got a chance to watch some games yesterday.
What was your biggest takeaway from all of the matchups?

Speaker 3 (31:04):
And who you to have in the World Series.

Speaker 6 (31:07):
I'll tell you what.

Speaker 8 (31:08):
Uh I got Phillies in Seattle, Okay, but but I'm
glad that the Tigers did.

Speaker 6 (31:13):
Mike, you played the game man.

Speaker 8 (31:15):
That collapse is so demeaning for your fans and everything
to see them.

Speaker 6 (31:19):
At least get this first win. You know what I mean? Uh,
I like that the best part of it.

Speaker 8 (31:26):
And how can you not love the Cubs when they're
in the playoff Baseball Wrigley Field rocks.

Speaker 1 (31:32):
Yeah, Yeah, they had a real good time last night.
I appreciate you, Lance, and we'll definitely have you on.
We'll appreciate We'll continue to monitor it as Texas Tech schedule,
as they don't have a lot of defending to do
until they get to Arizona State.

Speaker 8 (31:49):
Totally agree. By the way, I met Jacob this summer
outstanding young man. We're in the uh and some guy
fan boyd on him. Uh you know that I was
with the huge WW guy.

Speaker 3 (32:01):
We over know you.

Speaker 6 (32:02):
We're good friends with Ben Rbuckle.

Speaker 3 (32:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (32:04):
And he was so polite, man, Jacob was so polite.
This guy just ambushed and teaching the rules. Lance teaching
them the rules. Yeah, exactly, exactly, But Jacob Hamil had
no problem.

Speaker 6 (32:21):
So hey, guys, I appreciate you letting me on today.

Speaker 1 (32:24):
I have no problem man, and we'll do it against
big fans of these two.

Speaker 6 (32:28):
By the way, Mark Mike, the all time.

Speaker 8 (32:30):
Leading base stealer in Amarillo Dillo's history, is sitting right
next to you today.

Speaker 3 (32:35):
I can't believe that it's still a thing. Appreciate you
Lance as always.

Speaker 1 (32:40):
But you guys there he is my guy, Lance Lonnerd
and Maillo's best. You can follow him at Lance Lnert
on social media. When we come back, we'll talk a
little MLB and we've got a little sad story that
I want to put out there just a little bit
right here on the morning kickoff on the sports radio
AM thirteen hundred does great stuff from my guy Lance Lenard.

(33:02):
You can make sure you follow him at Lance Lanner
on social media. Coming up at the top of the hour,
we'll talk Dallas Cowboys with our guy Tommy Yarish as
the Cowboys traveled to New York to take on the Jets,
but they are the walking wounded as well, the Dallas Cowboys.

Speaker 3 (33:18):
That is, I wanted to talk a little bit about Texas.

Speaker 1 (33:21):
Not Texas baseball, but yes I will talk Texas baseball,
and in just a moment because Texas plays Lamar tonight
at the Dish, so we'll get into that. But Scott Wilson,
mister Texas longhorn, he is definitely a longhorned legend. Reports
came out last night that he was on his way

(33:42):
to Florida for the Texas football game. By the way,
he has not missed a football game or a baseball
game in seventy seven years. What yeah, Yeah, he is
that guy. He is at every baseball game, he is
at every footootball game. You see him, you know him,

(34:02):
you love him. And news came out that he had
a massive heart attack yesterday at the airport He's in.
ICU was the latest update that I saw. So please
keep Scott Wilson's uh in your prayers today because He
is a true, true legend legend, and folks are really
worried about him. So I just wanted to make sure

(34:24):
that we put that out there for his prayers and
his well wishes. Scott Wilson is one of the best
out there. I want to transition. He loved baseball and
Texas Baseball will be at the Dish tonight six point
thirty taking on Lamar. You can get out there. It's
all free, free parking, free. Well I don't know about

(34:45):
the drinks, but just to stop myself, I stopped my
free drinks.

Speaker 3 (34:54):
No free drinks. That's a very park.

Speaker 2 (34:58):
Listen, y'all can park in, you know, just come in
in the state.

Speaker 3 (35:02):
They gonna charge you for better.

Speaker 1 (35:04):
Yeah, and everything else that's in there that they could
charge you for.

Speaker 3 (35:09):
It's an off water twelve douts exact.

Speaker 1 (35:12):
Texas Texas football out of town. We're gonna make some
money this week some way. So Texas will be taking
on Lamar tonight at six thirty, first pitch. But last
night Major League Baseball, Detroit handles Cleveland, UH six to three.
As we talked about with Lance just a minute ago,
an absolute collapse by the Detroit Tigers. But they found

(35:34):
a way to get it done and the team that
ended up winning the Al Central they eliminated six to three.
The Cubs beat the Padres, but it was not without
some controversy. Bottom of the or top of the ninth
with the tying run on deck, this pitch happened.

Speaker 5 (36:00):
Djay Rayford just bailed out Teller.

Speaker 3 (36:03):
And bullgarks Nosen.

Speaker 5 (36:09):
Next year, that is a helmet tap in a millisecond.
That will definitely be a hat taper next year, not a.

Speaker 9 (36:18):
Strike and honestly a great take.

Speaker 3 (36:21):
This is a full count take.

Speaker 10 (36:23):
Malca zone to be able to spin on this pitch
is a great a pat he should be on first base.

Speaker 1 (36:29):
That is not.

Speaker 5 (36:30):
Close, and credit to Carson Kelly for framing it, but
a huge, huge.

Speaker 4 (36:39):
Brank for the comes.

Speaker 3 (36:40):
They won't complain. They get the.

Speaker 1 (36:42):
First down and that was a momentum shifting pitch right there.
Obviously you get a chance to get the tying run
to the plate and it does not happen because of
a call call strike three. And as you heard they
were talking about the head tap. Next year, you will
be able to challenge all the well not all of them,

(37:03):
but you'll be able to challenge calls for strikes and balls,
and it's called the ABS system, so it can't get
here fast enough.

Speaker 3 (37:12):
Do you think that that should have been the.

Speaker 2 (37:14):
Case in baseball's entirety, that when everybody obviously sees, okay,
that was a strike or that was not a strike,
can we challenge that?

Speaker 3 (37:27):
Can you look at look at the video.

Speaker 1 (37:29):
But the one thing that I I hesitant about is
the human element of it, because there will be no
human element to it. You know, there's some umpires that
are a little bit generous here, a little bit generous there,
and those are the ones that you need to watch
out for.

Speaker 4 (37:46):
It.

Speaker 1 (37:46):
You don't need to give a guy an inch and
a half on the inside corner and then I'm taking
that and I know it's a ball, but you're bringing
us up. You can go back in the history of
time and see some of the bad umpires that were
out there. But I looked at the grades for that
young man last night. He was ninety seven percent right

(38:09):
in a major League baseball game. He did his job.
That one pitch he just and that one what they
said was the right call. So the scorecard, how can
it be the right call if it was wrong?

Speaker 2 (38:24):
I don't understand this all comes from that box being
on them exactly if that box is not on the TV.

Speaker 1 (38:30):
And that's not our judging point. No one ever says
that because that was it.

Speaker 3 (38:35):
Because you can't see that that's a pigment.

Speaker 1 (38:38):
Yeah, they can't see it, so it's it's a little
bit different. But yeah, it was a it was a
tough go for them. But now that the Cubbies move
on and it's gonna be a big series coming up next.
But the Yankees send the Red Sox packing. And there
was a great pitching performance by one Kim you know

(39:00):
his name. I'm literally yeah, yeah, it was too close,
so let it go. Twelve strikeout performance in the biggest

(39:31):
game that he could possibly have in his career. And
Mark you said it earlier, he's not gonna have to
buy a drink or food ever in a long time
in New York.

Speaker 2 (39:41):
Listen, because he's a young, young dude. He got another
twelve fifteen years. He might be a no such thing
as a lifetime Yankee because you know that when the
money when he here's a couple of mouth, when he rises
to prominence, h everybody's gonna throw all the money and
he gonna hit that show head tiny money.

Speaker 3 (40:02):
My man was six foot six.

Speaker 1 (40:04):
He looked standing next to Stanton and Jujes. He was
looking at them out of eye. I was like, what's
up y'all? I'm like, how y'all doing up here?

Speaker 3 (40:14):
Hey? He was dealing hard. He was he picked one
hundred off ninety nine, one hundred ninety nine. He was
out standing performance.

Speaker 1 (40:21):
For coming up next, We're gonna transition to the Dallas Cowboys.

Speaker 3 (40:26):
Do we have to? We got to.

Speaker 1 (40:28):
We got our guy Tommy Yaris joining us from Dallascowboys
dot com, and Parker Coleman joins us at eight seventeen
talking high school football and of course the Texas Longhorns.
Good mood right here on the morning Kickoff on sports
Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Welcome back to our
number two of the morning kickoff right here on Sports

(40:49):
Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Mike Harballhard's World's Strongest Man, Deeve,
Mark Henry, and of course we got our guy Marcus
behind the boards and hour number one we talked a
lot about Thursday night football. We also talked Texas Longhorns
that they are headed to the swamp. But right now
we're gonna go to Dallas and talk to our guy,

(41:09):
Tommy Yarish of Dallascowboys dot Com and Tommy the Cowboys
tie against the Green Bay Packers. But it was a
coming out party, I guess you would say for George Pickens.

Speaker 11 (41:25):
Yeah, good morning guys. Certainly the most entertaining tie you'll
ever see, probably, and yeah, George Pickens was a big
reason for that. They were they wanted him to step
up with Ceedee Lamb out of the lineup, and boy
did he uh over one hundred yards two touchdowns. He
had the late go ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter
that a lot of people thought, you know one, then

(41:47):
the game and then ultimately Green Bay comes down the
field against this Dallas defense that just couldn't get a
stop to save their lives in the second half and
get the field goal. But he he proved himself last
Sunday and now it's just a question of Okay, can
he continue to do it and can he continue to
do it when CD's back in the lineup. So you know,

(42:08):
it's it's a really good starting point for George Pickens.
I think this trade is looking really good for Dallas
right now. And now we just got to see how
things progress him if he can do it again in
the seat against the Jets.

Speaker 2 (42:19):
I really do think that you're right, Like now that
George Pickens is getting some riffs as the guy, UH
is truly a number one, number one scenario, and now
teams are going to have to adjust for a guy
that actually can get number one type attention. When CD
Lamb is back in the lineup, do you think that

(42:43):
they'll go to that right away or you think that
they'll actually make CD back into the lineup and still
go to Pickings for a minute.

Speaker 11 (42:52):
No, absolutely, I think you're gonna You're gonna see them
go to both, just like you did the first few
games of the season when they were on the field together.
And so that's gonna mean you're gonna get some really
big games from CD. You're gonna get some really big
games from George, and maybe one guy has a big
game and the other's a little bit quieter, and then
vice versa another week. So you can kind of go
into each game knowing that you've got two different ways

(43:13):
to go in terms of your best wide receiver and
just feed the hot hand whoever's getting open. And so
that's the luxury of having two to one. Like you said,
Mark with CD and Pickens, Dak Prescott, go ahead, Sorry, the.

Speaker 2 (43:29):
Person that's really winning is Ferguson, you know that have
the middle of the field open up for himself, having
more targets than any tight end in NFL history. How
does how is he looking at it?

Speaker 8 (43:44):
Yeah?

Speaker 11 (43:44):
No, you're absolutely right. There might be no bigger winner
in all of this. And shake Ferguson because he all
of a sudden becomes the third option and a lot
of times the defense are going to try and take
away Pickens and Lambs, so that means Jake Ferguson more
often than not is open for a checkdown him. I know,
people are, you know, talking about his average yards per reception.
I think it's around six or something like that, and

(44:07):
you know, it's a little bit lower than what he's
usually had. But man, if you're picking up six yards
of play with that guy first down only, and he's ten,
so you're moving the shames every two plays if you
move the ball to him, I think he's playing really
well and he's going to benefit greatly from having both
of these guys, because if he's a checkdown option, he's
going to be able to pick up some yards here
and there, and it's just going to slowly kind of

(44:28):
be a death by a thousand cuts for you almost
for this Cowboys offense as they move down the field,
if they get the ball to Ferguson, especially with the
way but Javonte Williams is running the ball too, you know,
they're going to be in some pretty advantageous situations here
and that's why they're the number one offense in the league.

Speaker 3 (44:42):
Hey, I wanted to talk to you a little bit.

Speaker 1 (44:44):
We're talking to Tommy Yars of Dallas Cowboys dot com.
You can follow him at Tommy Underscore Yards. I wanted
to talk to you about this laundry list of injuries
because this this list looks ridiculous, to be quite honest
with you. They're going up to play an zero to
four New York Jets team, but they may not even

(45:05):
have a.

Speaker 3 (45:06):
Full team by the time they get there.

Speaker 1 (45:08):
What's the latest on some of these key personnel that
is missing from practice.

Speaker 11 (45:14):
Yeah, it is a really long list of injuries and
a lot of guys coming into this game probably not
going to play or maybe really questionable. Tyler Dyden is
in concussion protocol, so we'll see if you know, one
day of practice, if he can play today, is enough
for him to get the call on Sunday. That would
mean Dallas has down three starting offensive lineman and then

(45:36):
Tyler Smith this week gets added to the injury report
with a knee injury even practice the last two days.
So if he's out, that means that's four starting offensive
lineman for the Cowboys that won't play, which is obviously
not great, and they've got to figure something out if
that's the case. They have their depth guys step up,
you know. So there's all of those things. Then Cavante Turpin,

(45:59):
he's dealing with the injury. It's not the Cowboys don't
think it's serious. It's, you know, more something that they're
kind to just have to kind of manage and see
what he can do day by day. But he's probably
not going to play on Sunday. And then Malie Hooker,
they're starting safety, is out for Sunday, so Yanye Thomas
is going to get the safety run. I'm trying to

(46:20):
There's so many guys that I'm trying to identify it
if I've got them all, I think Ceedee Lamb is
still you know, a couple of maybe maybe next week
or the week after. I don't think that's in High
R for the cowboy thing. If he was going to
High R, they would have put him on there already.
Same thing with Tyler Booker, which you really got to
commend Tyler Booker because high ankle sprains for big fellows

(46:41):
like that, usually it takes a while to recover from.
But he's already out of his walking boot and you know,
working on the courts with the recovery team. So he's
doing a really good job and they're doing a good
job of getting him ready. So it doesn't look like
those two guys are going to High R. So at
least the silver lining with all of this is that
it seems like, you know, these injuries are only a

(47:01):
couple of weeks as opposed to long term like we've
seen earlier in the season with guys like Cooper Bebe.
So that's the positive thing for Dallas. But they're going
to be banged up on Sunday.

Speaker 1 (47:11):
So I wanted to ask you too, Miles Sanders. He's
another one that did not practice, and Javonte Williams has
done more than I.

Speaker 3 (47:19):
Expected him to do. He looks like a real star.

Speaker 1 (47:22):
But the news is Jaden Blue looks like he's going
to get a chance to play. Is it just that
he didn't understand the playbook protection coverages or were they
just trying to make him become a more serious football player.

Speaker 11 (47:37):
I honestly don't know if it was really either of those, Mike,
I think it was more numbers. I think that you know,
they were so banged up on the defensive side of
the ball that those first three games, all of their
practice squad elevations were defensive elevations. And they've got to
get corners healthy. They've got to get any sort of
defensive health they can healthy because Trayvon Diggs is out there,
i'n Bland is out and they're dealing with so many

(47:59):
injuries on the fensive side of the ball that they
kind of ran out of room on the on the
running back depth chart, right. So, yeah, with Miles Sanders
not practicing the last two days, I'm expecting Jayden Blue
to make his NFL debut on Sunday, and a lot
of people are excited about that. But sure, what was
there you know, some learning that Jane made sure that's
the case for for any rookie, you know, he has

(48:21):
to become a professional, and that's what the staff is
set from them from day one. They wanted consistency and
they feel like he's in a good job of it.
Brian Schottenheimer and Clayton Adams both said that this week,
and now he's going to get a chance on Sunday.

Speaker 2 (48:33):
I believe what is what was the major malfunction in
the whole him not being able to play and looking
like a profession and.

Speaker 11 (48:43):
I think they were they were leaning board towards the
two veteran guys that they that they've got in front
of him, and Sanders and Williams, and I think they
just really wanted that that veteran presence, you know, to
kind of lead the way through this through the start
of the season, wait for jend and Blue to fully
integrate himself into the offense. You know, he had the
injury of training camp which made him miss some time.
I only got one preseason game under his belt, and

(49:04):
so I think that's really more of what it was.

Speaker 3 (49:07):
Yeah, I didn't think it was going to be that bad.

Speaker 1 (49:10):
And now he might be coming in at the right time,
but also the wrong time because the offensive line is
so banged up that it's going to be important for
him to lock in. You traveling to New York today
or are you getting a chance to leave tomorrow?

Speaker 3 (49:26):
What are you doing?

Speaker 11 (49:27):
Yeah, we leave tomorrow, so we'll get there around the
middle of the afternoon. I think we land around like
three ten Central time, so I'll still be able to
catch the Texas game, or some of it at least,
and I'm looking forward to it. I hope the Horns
can go up through the swamp and pull it out.

Speaker 1 (49:47):
That's why you better be flying on them planes that
got a little bit of TV on there, so you
can watch some of that game on the flight. As always, man,
we appreciate you for taking the time. Have safe travels,
and hopefully the Cowboys don't make the Jets look like
a team that might win the Super Bowl.

Speaker 11 (50:06):
We'll see, We'll see y'all. Have a good one. Thanks
so much, no problem.

Speaker 1 (50:10):
There is Tommy Yarsh of Dallascowboys dot com. You can
follow them at Tommy Underscore Yards. When we come back,
we're gonna talk to Ann Parker Coleman as she breaks
down this Texas football matchup and of course gives us
the game of the week that her and her crew
will be following right here on the morning kickoff on

(50:30):
sports Radio AM thirteen hundred the Zoo.

Speaker 3 (50:36):
It's Friday.

Speaker 12 (50:37):
It's a feel good Friday, feel good football Friday, but
it's also a Friday football fever, that's right, And what
better way to kick it off than to talk to.

Speaker 3 (50:47):
Our girl and Parker.

Speaker 1 (50:49):
Coleman of KVU big Time Friday.

Speaker 3 (50:53):
You know that y'all are always busy on.

Speaker 1 (50:55):
Friday, but of course we gotta start you off with
Texas Football. Texas Football taking on the Florida Gators. It's
supposed to be muddy in the swamp, possibly with the
rain and the bad weather.

Speaker 2 (51:09):
But isn't it always muddy in the swamp? Well not
at Gainesville Mark.

Speaker 9 (51:14):
It's gonna be muddier than usual.

Speaker 3 (51:16):
Exactly, exactly.

Speaker 2 (51:18):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (51:19):
We got a chance to listen to.

Speaker 1 (51:20):
Coach Sark all week long, and what are some of
your biggest takeaways from him as he's looking forward to
their first SEC matchup in the last team to play
an SEC game.

Speaker 10 (51:33):
Yeah, we talked a lot about that that schedule and
start kind of walked away saying, you know, even though
they're the last team to get into SEC play, and
it doesn't really bother him that much, you know, instead
of they're gonna have to play at the end of
the at the end of the year, everybody's still going
to play the same amount of conference games.

Speaker 9 (51:51):
It just so happens that.

Speaker 10 (51:53):
Texas isn't going to filter in at SAM Houston or
U tep in November, which you know, personally, I like,
I'm and I'm happy too with the quarterback, like Arch,
she's young, Like thank goodness he had. You know, three
non conference is somewhat cupcut games to kind of get
into the rhythm of things before conference play starts. But

(52:13):
you know, other than that, to me, the most interesting
thing that he said is the fact that they practice
with wet footballs every single week, no matter what the
forecast is. I worked for I went to University of
Virginia and I worked for the Virginia team Virginia football
team when I was a student, and I had to
think back. I was like, is this a normal thing
that college teams do? I never saw a wet football

(52:34):
at their practice. And Jeff Jones, my boss, I asked him,
he played college football. It's like, is this more normal
that I'm giving a credit for No. I think that's
really smart because you know, if you spend the entire
week practicing with wet football, so it might be sunny
in seventy five on Saturday, you know who knows, and
you miss out on an entire week of actual preparation.
But if you intersperse it throughout the entire season, then

(52:57):
when it arises, you're ready for it.

Speaker 2 (53:00):
MS Park, what is the thing that JDA most excited
about in this game? Is it seeing arch come back
to prominence or is it watching these running backs? What
is the thing this defense? We know what they are.
What is the thing that you to the most excited
about in this game?

Speaker 10 (53:17):
Yeah, you're right, you said it. Defense is always pretty.
You know what you're gonna get from there? Then they
are consistent in somebody who's that consistent is Archie hasn't
been consistent yet this year. And I feel like we
just saw the glimpse of who he was last year
and who we know that he can be in that.

Speaker 9 (53:35):
Sam Houston game.

Speaker 10 (53:36):
So I'm so excited to see him against Florida and
hopefully see some of that emotion again that kind of
fuels him and just kind of get him back on
track playing consistently of than that.

Speaker 9 (53:47):
I'm excited to see Jared Gibson.

Speaker 10 (53:48):
Because coach mentioned him a lot this yesterday when we
talked to him semester. He must have had a good
week of practice. Obviously we know Cja Baxter is going
to be out, so that means more RUPs for him.
Whether we see Trey Wise or not, I'll be interested
in that because he was is questionable and with Sark,
questionable kind of means eh, fifty to fifty, we might
see him still.

Speaker 1 (54:08):
So we're talking to Anne Parker Coleman of Kview. Make
sure you check her out in a Friday night. What
are y'all fever? That's what it is, Friday night. That's right,
that's right. But I wanted to ask you this because
Sark also mentioned Emmitt Moseley. We might finally get an
Emmitt Moseley sighting. The one thing that we all know

(54:29):
that he brings his physicality, but he I don't know
how many reps he's actually had with the team, so
they can have that time.

Speaker 3 (54:38):
And what are your expectations from this young man?

Speaker 10 (54:41):
Yeah, you're right, you know, when you just look at
him as a from a from a physical standpoint, he
gives you a lot of length when it comes out
wide receiver room.

Speaker 9 (54:51):
But you just don't even know what to expect.

Speaker 10 (54:53):
You know, he has been banged up pretty much, I
guess since maybe middle of old camp or maybe was
that second practice, I can't remember.

Speaker 9 (55:02):
It's been so long time.

Speaker 10 (55:04):
Yeah, since he has been uh since he's been somewhat injured.

Speaker 9 (55:08):
So you don't really know what to expect. But hopefully
this weekend we'll find out.

Speaker 2 (55:16):
Yeah, I don't I don't know if if we're going
to get to see emmittt. Moseley and and more on
the on the field at the same time. But man,
you get two guys that can really block the way
they can, it could open up that running game. Are
you interested in seeing, uh those guys be out there

(55:36):
more on a blocking or are catching the ball?

Speaker 9 (55:41):
Gosh, catching the ball?

Speaker 10 (55:43):
And I don't want to talk about DeAndre Moore Junior.
I feel like we didn't talk about him enough the
other weekends.

Speaker 9 (55:50):
Just what his return sports.

Speaker 10 (55:52):
You're talking about a guy who is super super physical
you said, can block as well, and just has a
sort of like confidence into swagger to him that I think,
you know, maybe I'm like over overestimating his you know
what he brings to the game. But I just I
feel like even having him on the field like settle
down Arch because he's a guy who has played a

(56:14):
lot of reps, I played a lot of stamps of
football and just knows the game and is really really
confident in his ability to And I feel like, you know,
he'll show out better against Florida than you know, his
first game back.

Speaker 1 (56:28):
Yeah, and you're right, his energy was a little bit different,
the way that he caught the ball, jumped up first
down and kind of helped everybody else feel a little
bit more comfortable, especially Arch Manning. I do want to
transition to baseball real quick before we get into the
game of the week for you guys. Obviously, Texas Baseball
did their thing last weekend against Texas Tech. Now they're

(56:51):
back at the dish tonight six thirty against Lamar. Got
a chance to see some of the new players, and
a lot of guys opened some eyes after that first weekend.

Speaker 9 (57:04):
Yeah, I would say so.

Speaker 10 (57:05):
I went to Del Diamond last week saw a couple
of innings of baseball, and Aiden Robbins just so stood
out to me. I mean, I feel like he kind of,
in my opinion, stole the show. He is as advertised
from seat hall, and I was just I was really
impressed by that. And then also when we talked to
saw Us the other week, you know, you saw him

(57:27):
bring in Timo Visera from Stanford shortstop and you think, okay,
that makes sense.

Speaker 9 (57:32):
He's gonna step into Jalen's world. But not so fast.

Speaker 10 (57:35):
Adrian Rodriguez said that he wanted a chance to be
considered for shortstop too, and so when I saw a
Rod started shortstop, that's that's pretty interesting.

Speaker 9 (57:46):
And I thought I did a good job too.

Speaker 10 (57:47):
So you can only take but so much from these
fall ball games, but you know, you can look at
some of these new guys and get a little bit
of a feel for them.

Speaker 9 (57:57):
And I feel like I really walked away just impressed with.

Speaker 10 (58:02):
Aiden Robbins and impressed with the fact that a Rod
started at shortstop over a guy who's brought into play shortstop.

Speaker 3 (58:10):
Right.

Speaker 1 (58:11):
And I was walking around this stadium as well, and
it was a great crowd Number one, but I got
a chance to watch Robins two at bats and he
squared up a couple of baseballs that kind of made
me go, oh, Okay, now I understand why this guy
is so excited to be at the University of Texas.

Speaker 3 (58:29):
So that's yeah.

Speaker 1 (58:30):
What's your big game of the weekend for Texas high
school football in the Central Texas area.

Speaker 10 (58:37):
Yeah, guys, we have east Side versus Main Or New Tech.
And I'm not gonna lie. These are two schools that
I feel like it was a little less familiar with.
We feel like we talk about you know, the Lake
Traviss Westlakes and.

Speaker 9 (58:52):
All the time. Yeah, and we should. But east Side
is a school who has won four games this year.

Speaker 10 (58:58):
They're four and one, and that they're tied for the
top place in their district.

Speaker 9 (59:02):
But those four wins, this is the interesting part.

Speaker 10 (59:04):
Those are more than they have had any past seven
seasons combined.

Speaker 9 (59:09):
Right, which is insane. So you gotta sit back and
that I know, is that not crazy?

Speaker 3 (59:15):
Yeah? That's wild. Yeah, that's wild.

Speaker 8 (59:17):
Yes.

Speaker 10 (59:17):
And you know tonight as they take on Manor New Tech,
it's kind of one of those questions of like, okay, contender, pretender,
like did you just get off to a fast start,
or is like this the new east Side?

Speaker 9 (59:29):
And I think this game against Manor Newtech will kind
of help determine.

Speaker 1 (59:32):
That, and I like Manor New Tech Derek lewis out
there being a coaches changing that program around as well.

Speaker 3 (59:40):
So this is good stuff.

Speaker 1 (59:42):
So make sure y'all check it out KVU tonight and
Friday Night Fever as they break down.

Speaker 3 (59:48):
Don't you still give it out T shirts? Y'all still
giving out the shirt?

Speaker 10 (59:52):
Yes, we're still giving out T shirts, and in fact,
Corey and I will be in Florida tonight, but I
will still make an appearance for Fronday Night Fever just
from Florida.

Speaker 3 (01:00:01):
Did you get one? I tell you, Jeff, I'm gonna
have to holler at Jeff. Oh that's right. Wow. Hey,
if we don't ask, we don't know. You know, if
it's free, I take three.

Speaker 9 (01:00:21):
Here you go.

Speaker 1 (01:00:21):
Well, y'all be careful in Florida, have a safe trip
and bring back a victory for the Texas Longhorn.

Speaker 9 (01:00:26):
Fans bring back a soggy w.

Speaker 1 (01:00:30):
Appreciate you safe travels. There she is and Parker Coleman
of Cave. You make sure you tune in Cave all week.
Corey mos our God, Jeff Jones, and of course and
Parker Coleman coming up next. You got the world's strongest
man bringing you his world's strongest take right here on
the morning kickoff on Sports Radio and thirteen hundred.

Speaker 3 (01:00:53):
That beat just drops, So you know what that means.

Speaker 1 (01:00:55):
W w Ee Hall of Famer and world strongest Man Henrick.

Speaker 2 (01:01:01):
Brings you his world's strongest take. Take it away, big fella.
All right, what's you know what timing? It's time for
the world's strongest take by the world's strongest man. My god,
back then they didn't know men. Now I'm hot, they

(01:01:21):
all on me. Well, normally I would be more excited
about this take, but it's because of the content that
I feel almost like I told Hars yesterday this was
going to be the take, but then I changed my
mind because I we had a short amount of time

(01:01:44):
and I wanted to really get into this one. How
often is it that you get a player who's not
a starter, he's not even a backup. In fact, technically
he's really not even the third quarterback on the team,

(01:02:09):
But the media goes to him and.

Speaker 3 (01:02:13):
Asks the question.

Speaker 2 (01:02:16):
About how he feels about who's starting. Where they do that,
where they do that at hard Well, that's what happened
with Cleveland. The Cleveland Browns named Dylan Gable as their
starting quarterback. Joe Flacco drops and goes to the backup

(01:02:41):
the second quarterback.

Speaker 3 (01:02:43):
Technically on the roster they.

Speaker 2 (01:02:45):
Have Shader Sanders as the third quarterback. But Deshaun Watson,
as Hard pointed out, is now healthy, who's practicing, and.

Speaker 3 (01:03:00):
They're paying him a ton of cash.

Speaker 2 (01:03:04):
If you weigh his money, you could not pick it up,
I guarantee you. But yet you still have the media,
you know, making a comment. Rex Ryan was the guy
that said, well, I really hope that Sanders keeps his
mouth shut and don't say something. So of course the

(01:03:28):
media goes to Sanders, Shadar Sanders and asked him about
his opinion. Anyway. Sanders mumbles or mouths the fact, I
don't know what you're talking about. It's not my call.

(01:03:52):
But he wasn't saying anything. It was like a mind
you ever see or do you ever see the guys
that in New York in times spread of doing the box,
they're pulling the fake rope like the mind. That's what
he did. He would not verbalize what he was saying.
He just mouthed it where you couldn't. That was his

(01:04:16):
version of keeping your mouth shut bad take on Sander's part.
Just man up and say, hey, guys, I'm the third quarterback.

Speaker 3 (01:04:29):
I'm the fourth quarterback. I don't have a dog in
the fight yet. Good luck to him. We're gonna try
to get him prepared for the game.

Speaker 2 (01:04:39):
You shut everybody up and nothing else is said. I'm
trying my best to be on Sander's team. I'm trying
to be a fan because I know how talented. Yes,
he's more talent than Gabriel, he's a better quarterback, but
because of antics like this, this is that's why he's

(01:05:00):
the fourth quarterback.

Speaker 3 (01:05:03):
Hart, what say you?

Speaker 1 (01:05:05):
Well, as I've said before, I don't understand why he's
made available for the media. There's a chain of command,
and I think that all of these antics and situations
that's being thrown to him, some of it's his own doing.
Obviously he doesn't have to accept the conversations, but he

(01:05:28):
should not be made available for the media to ask
questions to. I mean, who's responsible Communications team PR?

Speaker 3 (01:05:38):
I mean you understand that people come in and they.

Speaker 1 (01:05:43):
Request to speak to certain people, and the locker room
is open at a certain time to go in and
talk to people, but there's also a person that says
you're not allowed, you will not allowed, You're not going
to be able to talk to the media day.

Speaker 3 (01:05:56):
We don't want you talking to the media day. There
needs to be.

Speaker 1 (01:05:59):
Some buffer that is there so it's not him looking
like the bad guy to where he's not going to
accept the interviews. Obviously, this story is big because of
the Cleveland situation with quarterbacks and all the ones that
have ever come through there. I got a text message
of a dude that had a jacket and it had

(01:06:20):
every single all forty one of the quarterbacks that they've
had in Cleveland, which makes zero sense. It's one forty
one forty one quarterbacks. And you you look at this
and you try to gather the information. When it comes
to Shador Sanders and what he does or says, that's

(01:06:42):
on him. But the ability to make him available for
the media is on the pr team for the Cleveland Browns.

Speaker 3 (01:06:50):
That's bad business.

Speaker 1 (01:06:51):
It's bad for your locker room because now he's talking
and not the starting quarterback, not the backup quarterback, not
the y receiver or the offensive lineman, the starters of
the team. It is creating turmoil within the city because
now your fan base is split because you might have
Dylan Gabriel, who's quiet, who just goes about his work,

(01:07:14):
and the ones that want Shador Sanders, they're raising all
kinds of heck about it because.

Speaker 3 (01:07:20):
They want their guy in the game.

Speaker 1 (01:07:23):
And yet you got Joe Flocco, who's sitting there with
the conversation that we've had before. Joe Floco's there to
be the calming voice in that locker room. But then
you do you still have the presence of a Deshaun
Watson and it's a it's an absolute Yeah, it's an
absolute mess.

Speaker 3 (01:07:42):
And Cleveland is getting what they deserve at this particular time.

Speaker 1 (01:07:45):
And the only reason why I say is they deserve
it is because they created it.

Speaker 2 (01:07:50):
They should have Baker Mayfield out of that building.

Speaker 3 (01:07:53):
Well, it ain't even about Baker no more.

Speaker 1 (01:07:55):
It's about the fact that these people are putting their
own football team in the grease for no reason. Yeah,
you got your change at quarterback. Dylan Gabriel was a
third round pick. Of course he's gonna get the first
shot at it. Shador was a fifth round pick. We

(01:08:17):
know who's more talented wise, but look at Dylan Gabriel's
numbers and you got to put some respect on it.
He was pretty dog one good in college at Oklahoma
and at Oregon he was a Heisman Trophy finalist. I
mean it's a it's a different look for sure, But
this is Cleveland.

Speaker 3 (01:08:35):
They want drama.

Speaker 1 (01:08:36):
They they they have created this drama for a bad
football team.

Speaker 3 (01:08:40):
So you they're they're Jerry Jones.

Speaker 1 (01:08:44):
No, because they're they're guys not in the media. They're
their owner is not talking to people like like the
Cowboys owner, general manager, president, whatever you want to call him. Uh,
he's created a bad deal. So there's a lot there.
There's a lot that needs to be cleaned up when
it comes to this Cleveland organization problem Number one, stop

(01:09:07):
making them available.

Speaker 6 (01:09:08):
For the media.

Speaker 3 (01:09:10):
Let's send a message to the PR team. Well that's
something I'm not a Cleveland Brown fan. You can do that.
You can do that so we can voice our opinion
now Cleveland, Yeah for sure.

Speaker 1 (01:09:24):
Coming up next, we're gonna close out the show and
send you to Dan Patrick. Lots going on, but Texas
football is what we're gonna finish with right here on
the morning kickoff on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred This Zone.
What a great week of shows that we have had
here on the morning kickoff. If you missed any of
our shows, get over to our podcast page, the one

(01:09:47):
that you have set at number two on your preset
because number one is AM thirteen hundred the Zone. Make
sure you come out and hang out with us tomorrow
for our pregame show start at eleven thirty from third
Base in Round Rock off of louis Ina. Come and
hang out, have a good time, and there's some drink specials,

(01:10:09):
and then hang out for the game as there will
be a watch party going on as well. But you
can hear all of that right here on your home
for Texas Football and Texas Athletics Sports Radio AM thirteen
hundred Zone with the voice of the Texas Longhorns, Craig Way.
Speaking of Craig Way, you can hear his show this

(01:10:30):
afternoon starting at two o'clock. Special shout out to the
folks at Twin Peaks from yesterday. Had a great time
out there doing a SEC round table. As Texas gets
ready to play their first game as an SEC member
for the twenty twenty five season, the only team that

(01:10:53):
has not played an SEC game and we already this
will be game number five for the season. Also tonight
get out to the Dish Texas Baseball texts on Lamar
six point thirty is the first pitch at dishfalk Field.
It's gonna be tough to match that crowd that was
their last Saturday at Round Rock because Friday Night Lights

(01:11:14):
is going on high school football games and of course
you got people that are traveling to Gainesville for that game.

Speaker 3 (01:11:22):
So still what it's gonna look like.

Speaker 2 (01:11:26):
I still think with two million people in the surrounding
areas that you should be able to get at least
two or three thousand people.

Speaker 3 (01:11:34):
Oh, no doubt.

Speaker 1 (01:11:34):
I think it's gonna be just fine. But it's just
last week was really really packed, so we'll see six Yeah, well,
we'll see what ends up happening this weekend. But we
also got big games that start on Saturday. Well, we
got games that start tonight too, but the games that
are starting on Saturday and all on the SEC channels,

(01:11:58):
whether it's ABC SEC Network or streaming on the s
p N, we have big time games. Kentucky at Georgia
will kick off at eleven o'clock at a on ABC.
The game that has a game day at it is
Vanderbilt at Alabama. That kicks off at two thirty on ABC.

(01:12:20):
Your Texas Longhorns will be on ESPN for the two
thirty kickoff. Texas at Florida, Oklahoma Kent State will be
at three o'clock and now we'll kick off on the
SEC network.

Speaker 3 (01:12:34):
And Mississippi State at Texas.

Speaker 1 (01:12:36):
A and M, a big time matchup, will kick off
at seven six point thirty.

Speaker 3 (01:12:42):
On the SEC Network.

Speaker 2 (01:12:45):
You think that's gonna be the hardest, That's gonna be
the toughest game. And I know you you're Pavia A fan,
and you really think that Vanderbilt and Alabama is gonna
be a game. But I think that Mississippi State the
Battle of Maroon man A and M Like, Yeah, it's
a vombing game, but it is what it is. But

(01:13:07):
the Battle of Maroon is going down, and I think
that's gonna be the game that we'll be talking about.

Speaker 3 (01:13:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:13:12):
Another game that has got some big implications is Miami
and Florida State. That game is on Saturday night as well.
A very interesting matchup for both of those teams and
where the expectations are for them on the season. Other
games that are going to be played, Colorado travels to

(01:13:35):
TCU Colorado two and three and zero to two in
Big Twelve play, So they've got to figure it out.
Dion trying to figure out who his quarterbacks are going
to be because he just keep playing that musical chairs
at the quarterback position.

Speaker 3 (01:13:50):
A game that I know a lot of people.

Speaker 1 (01:13:52):
Aren't truly talking about, but two programs that are in
peril right now. The Clemson Tigers, sitting at one in
three on the regular season and zero to two in
conference play, take on the North Carolina tar Hills. Cleinton
is a fourteen and a half point favorite on the
road against North Carolina. This will be North Carolina's first

(01:14:16):
ACC matchup of the year as well in that bowl.
Yeah Yeah. K State in the Big Twelve will take
on Baylor. Baylor's sitting at three and two k State
sitting that two and three. Baylor's a five and a
half point favorite at home. Sawyer Robertson, the quarterback for Baylor,

(01:14:37):
is one of the top quarterbacks in the country seventeen
hundred yards, seventeen touchdowns to just three interceptions. Big time
matchup there, Penn State at UCLA. And the only reason
why I say this about UCLA is this is a
team that is awful and they fired their coach and

(01:14:58):
this is a program the power what are Blue that
used to be a very prideful, prideful school is now
worried about Olympic Sports because they got to figure out
what's going to happen with their football program and trying
to get some fans into those stands. Some other matchups
that are across the land. We talked about Kent State

(01:15:22):
at Oklahoma, but the game also fs one. You have
Michigan State, who is three and one on a year
versus Nebraska. Told you before, I'm still a big fan
of what's going on with Matt Ruhle at Nebraska. So

Texas State travels to Arkansas State. Texas State is a
thirteen and a half point favorite. That is one of
my picks. I'm rolling with Texas State to go up
there and had no business and if you got time,
you can make it to the game. It's only fourteen
dollars tickets to go to the game in Arkansas State.

Speaker 2 (01:16:00):
Was gonna be a sneaky good game. I think that's
gonna be Syrah Houston.

Speaker 3 (01:16:04):
It's in you. Both of them are three and two,
and this is one of those.

Speaker 2 (01:16:09):
Okay, we gotta solidify ourselves as a better team against
another good team, and everybody doesn't have that on their schedule.
Right where you play against the team that everybody deems
they pretty good, you beat them and it just rises
you up in that ranking. When it gives time for
the twelve YEP and then that night game number eleven,

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
