This is a feel good football Friday edition of The
Morning Kickoff right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred
The Zone. Texas Longhorns in the Kentucky Wildcats kickoff tomorrow
night at six o'clock. So Sark had his last media
availability of the week. The injury report moves some guys
(01:00):
to a not playing position. The Icy Hot Bowl was
won for the Ages. Cowboys might get a star back.
Speaking of a star we got Ann Parker Coleman joining
us from KVU at eight seventeen and one of college
football's head coaches got a pay raise, and it is
about to be on and of course the Dodgers and
(01:23):
the Blue Jays let you know that baseball is still
going on in October.
Speaker 3 (01:28):
I am your host, Mike Harball Haares.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
My co host is a WWE Hall of Famer and
recognized as the world's strongest man.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
He is d Mark Henry.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
Good morning Alls, and our guy Marcus is behind the boards.
And if you want to be a part of the Shaw,
all you gotta do is text the word Texans followed
by your message to eight one five three zero. Standard
data and message rates may apply. That's the word Texas
followed by your message to eight one five three zero.
Standard data and message rates may apply. Also, if you
(01:56):
want to voice your opinion or get a chance to
win a pair of tickets to go see Alice Cooper
and Judas Priest, all you got to do is use
that new and improved iHeartRadio app the talk back feature,
and you will leave your voicemail and if it's good enough,
you might even hear it on air. And if it's nice,
you might be able to get that keyword and get
called that you have won a pair of tickets. Speaking
(02:19):
of tickets, we got to make sure that we get
this thing started correctly. We have a lot going on
and the Texas Longhorns are headed to Lexington, Kentucky. Lexington,
Kentucky to take on the Kentucky Wildcats.
Speaker 3 (02:34):
We've all talked about this.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
Kentucky is not where they were throughout the years, but
it's still a dangerous football team.
Speaker 3 (02:41):
They have a lot that they are trying to get
figured out.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
At what better way than upset the apple cart tomorrow night,
six o'clock. But Texas's job is to stay focused, locked
in and get it going. And so coach Sark yesterday
met with the media for the last time and here
is his openings.
Speaker 3 (03:01):
Back on the road this week.
Speaker 4 (03:02):
You know, I hope you guys are getting your frequent
flyer miles here with the with this month of October.
But you know, this has been this has been an
exciting week for us. You know, every week poses its
own unique challenges, UH and its own unique opportunities, and
this is a this is a great opportunity for our
team this week to really grow UH and show the
(03:24):
maturity that that good teams have.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
You know, for.
Speaker 4 (03:29):
All of last week as I touched on, we heard
how loudy we were. Our backs were against the wall.
We weren't what everybody thought we were going to be.
And we went out and practiced really well. We had
a great sense of urgency. Guys prepared well. It was
a rivalry game. They were really well connected. The sideline
engagement was fantastic last Saturday, and we played well and
(03:49):
we won. We had zero turnovers on offense with great
three on defense. Now this week it's the test of
the maturity of the team and can we quiet the
outside noise again of everybody now saying hey, we're great
again and Arches great again and all these things and
focus on the things that helped us play well. And
that's the intent in practice, the preparation, the sense of urgency,
(04:13):
the connectivity amongst the team, the sideline engagement on Saturday,
our ability to take care of the ball, not give
up short fields, our ability to play well at the
line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball, our
ability to create turnovers defensively.
Speaker 3 (04:27):
That that's the real test.
Speaker 4 (04:29):
And I love the opportunity for our guys because I
really feel like if we can do it again, that's
creating habits and now that becomes the norm of who
we are. And so that's been the message all week.
I think the guys have responded very well. Like I said,
we'll find out here Saturday night what that's all about.
Should be a great environment at Kentucky Night game. And
(04:51):
then obviously we're looking forward to the opportunity and you know,
so we'll see what happens.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
Well, I'm gonna tell you right now, like habit and
is doing something more than once is doing something because
you know, oh you was great, it was great.
Speaker 3 (05:08):
I'm not gonna lie. I was very very happy, we know, but.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
That was one game, and when you put two or
three of those together, that's who you are, yep.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
Not just one.
Speaker 2 (05:22):
So him saying that gives me hope that they're on
the right way, they're on the right path.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
Well, you know as well as I do.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
In these particular moments, you start looking at your football
team and we talk about the maturity and the growing
up moments. This is an opportunity for this football team
to grow up. This is an opportunity for them to
heed the moment and really dive into what the expectations
are for this team. We talked about it, and Start
(05:52):
keeps bringing it up. You know, people are telling us
that we weren't all that and all this. Yes, because
it did not look good. The product did not look good.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
He sounded.
Speaker 2 (06:02):
He sounded a little bit complaining right right at first,
but then he turned it over to no, no, we
we had our pity party.
Speaker 3 (06:11):
Yep. At pitty party is over with.
Speaker 1 (06:12):
Now let's get this now, let's go yep. And as
he said, go out there do it again. Now becomes
a habit. Yeah, and now you start understanding, Hey, a
lot of y'all have had a Texas has had a
lot of success in the last three years. Let's go three.
I'll go three. But your leadership got to prove that exactly.
Lock them back in, lock them back in. Yeah, make
(06:34):
sure this happens. And one of the things that needs
to help is the offensive line. And Nick Brooks, the
young freshman has grown. He's growing up right before our
eyes as well. Unlet's see if he can do it again.
And Coach Start talked about him.
Speaker 4 (06:48):
I think one is I really felt the intent in
practice with that group. I thought Coach Flood did a
great job. I thought those guys were engaged into the plan.
I thought we played fast the offensive line. I thought
that we were thinking a little bit less attacking, more
fit and in turn more physical. And when you can
(07:11):
do those things, then you can build some confidence and
you can grow. I think the second thing in the
game that I was impressed with was we knew, oh,
you had a very good defensive front, and they made
their plays too. You know, It's not like every run
was a was a great you know block perfectly, and
every drop back pass was blocked perfectly.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
But what we did was show.
Speaker 4 (07:31):
Some some mental toughness and some resolve to move on
to the next play and not let the previous play
in the harbor. And and I think Nick is indicative
of that. You know, I felt like against Florida he
got a little overwhelmed at times with one play let
into the next and the next and the next. I thought, I, oh,
you week, he practiced well, and maybe when a play
(07:52):
wasn't perfect, he got on to the next play. You know,
he has a false start early in that game, and understandable,
first career start red River Rivalry has a false I
don't think he let that negative play linger. He was
able to move on and that's a good sign for
us that we're able to kind of recalibrate and give
the next play the credit it deserves and focus on.
Speaker 3 (08:12):
And that's the beautiful part about getting better.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
And it has to get better because news came out
yesterday that on the injury report both Cole Hudson and
Connor Strow will both be out of today's game, I
mean on Saturday's game.
Speaker 3 (08:26):
So that offensive line has to be better.
Speaker 1 (08:28):
You have guys that have to step up and grow
right before our eyes, and those are the things that
I continue to look at with this team. You go
out and recruit well, you try to build these guys up.
There shouldn't be no sense of not knowing what's going on.
Because you grew up in the same program, you understand
the cadence. But now Connor Robinson has to be better
(08:49):
on that offensive line, getting to the line of scrimmage,
recognizing and helping Arch see some things that he may
not be able to see.
Speaker 3 (08:56):
We talked about Jake Majors, what Jake Majors brought. Well.
Speaker 1 (08:59):
Last week, Cole Hudson played his behind off and now
we're gonna play without him. But now Connor Robinson starts
slides into that position and has the ability to be
the leader at that point, and.
Speaker 2 (09:11):
The others have got to make it comfortable for the
new guys coming in, the guys that have been sitting
and watching, and you gotta be able to tell them, look, man,
don't press, don't press. We're gonna get the job done.
But this is what I need you to know. Yep,
this is your opportunity, So take it because you may
come out here and be so good that we don't
(09:32):
get that the guy never comes back again, exactly exactly.
Speaker 1 (09:35):
Then these are that's why you come to the schools
like Texas. That's why you come to get these opportunities.
And Connor Robinson, they're talking about his development. How can
he handle it as long as Cole Hudson is out.
Speaker 4 (09:48):
Connor is a guy that again he stepped in in
the Red Robbery, I think first series of the game
that year as a younger player, has a start already
under his belt.
Speaker 3 (10:00):
This season.
Speaker 4 (10:01):
I think one thing that Connor has is he's got
really good rapport with Arch. They're very close and I
think there's some connectivity there which is important. The quarterback
in the center. He's been in the system. You know,
so there's not a look or a call that that
he can't make. To get everybody on the same page
when you talk about continuity, it's not like we're throwing
a new guy in there at center. This guy's been
(10:23):
in the program, he's been in the system. He knows
all the calls, so we're very comfortable with him that way.
Cole's not it's not some season ending injury, but it
is an injury. He'll be out hopefully, you know, he'll
be back sooner rather than later. Time will tell. You know,
we have another player on the team who has a
very similar injury who bounced back probably quicker than we anticipated.
Speaker 3 (10:44):
So hopefully he's not out very long.
Speaker 1 (10:46):
Yeah, and hopefully, like you said, he is not and
they get an opportunity to get him back because that
provides more depth on that offensive line. You know, lineman
always get deemed up. They might have to come out
for a play you were talking about. You know, when
you mess up, take him out and be able to
do well. That bench is getting a little bit smaller.
Speaker 2 (11:07):
But you know what, the one thing about being able
to have guys miss is guys get opportunity and that
it helps create your depth because you find out what
you have in the cupboard.
Speaker 3 (11:18):
No doubt about it.
Speaker 1 (11:19):
We're just getting started on this feel good.
Speaker 3 (11:21):
Football Friday night.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
Last night they had the Icy Hot Bowl, and let
me just tell you, Mike Tomlin was right and we'll
explain right here on the Morning Kickoff on Sports Radio
AM thirteen hundred the Zone. Y'all heard the commercial for
weeks on this station. That's right, folks. Ice Cube was
in the Moody Center last night and let's just say
(11:46):
when he talked about his day ones, that's exactly what
we were.
Speaker 3 (11:51):
We were in attendance.
Speaker 1 (11:52):
We got an opportunity to bring him out and introduce him.
Speaker 3 (11:56):
Come on now, talk about great great time, great performance.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
Whole Morning Kickoff crew was in.
Speaker 3 (12:03):
A house and we had such a great, great time.
Speaker 1 (12:06):
Thank you to the folks over at Live Nation, iHeart Radio,
and of course Ice Cube and his son o Sha,
who we got a chance to Oshake Junior, who he
got a chance to hang out with for a little
while yesterday. Good stuff, good stuff. Y'all had a good time.
Speaker 3 (12:21):
Man. I had a bomb. Man, it's been a while.
Speaker 5 (12:23):
Man.
Speaker 3 (12:24):
The wife came and ate with us.
Speaker 2 (12:26):
We had to go out and visit one of our
favorite sushi spots uchi ya ya. You know we'll be
posting some some some videos of us, you know, getting
getting turned up before the before the show and then
I don't know if we had a better day.
Speaker 3 (12:45):
No, we didn't.
Speaker 2 (12:46):
What a good I mean, no pun on the ice
Cube song. Today was a good day. But yesterday was
a good day.
Speaker 6 (12:52):
Man.
Speaker 2 (12:53):
We had a great show. We ended up going and
eating really well and good company and being able to
go to a concert and actually bring out the star.
Speaker 3 (13:07):
Yeah, it was outstanding. It was such a good, incredible day. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (13:11):
Shout out to Vera Bank and uh Kelsey and Bennett
and for having us in there their suite and meeting
some cool people, got to hang out with the Tito's folks.
I mean, it was it was outstanding stuff. So thankful
for that. And you're right, Mark, it was a good
day even I guy Marcus. Marcus got to have a
good time too.
Speaker 7 (13:31):
Right, I got a while out a little bit, had
a little had a little good time.
Speaker 3 (13:34):
Floor seats enjoyed it like crazy, Yeah what what what?
Speaker 1 (13:38):
His catalog is undeniable, man, You know, his catalog is
truly undeniable.
Speaker 2 (13:43):
When you have as many hits as he had, and
we didn't even get to see him all because we're
older guys and.
Speaker 3 (13:49):
When you ain't got to put that in the streets,
we were just.
Speaker 1 (13:54):
Y'all exactly to see I stayed the whole show.
Speaker 3 (13:59):
You used to stay, damn vampire.
Speaker 2 (14:03):
But y'all, hey, y'all realize that Marcus is two hundred
and eighty seven years old.
Speaker 3 (14:07):
He is a vampire.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
Yeah, dude, don't go to swooing come in here with
garlic around our neck.
Speaker 3 (14:12):
Just keep him all just to keep him off of us.
Speaker 1 (14:16):
So yeah, but it was. We had a great time,
great time. Shout out to all the folks that made
it all possible. Last night though in the NFL man
Mike Tomlin talked about it.
Speaker 3 (14:27):
Man, that's all I'm gonna say. You mean the Old Bowl, Yeah,
the icy hot ball.
Speaker 1 (14:31):
Lit'sten from Mike Tomlin earlier in the week when he
found out that a trade was made for somebody that
he did not want to see this early in the season.
Speaker 3 (14:40):
You know, to be honest, it was shocking to me.
Speaker 8 (14:44):
Andrew Barry must be a lot smarter than me or us,
because it doesn't make sense to me to trade a
quarterback that you think enough of to make your opening
day starter to a division opponent that's hurting in that area.
Speaker 3 (14:58):
But that's just my personal feelings.
Speaker 1 (15:00):
Well, the reason why his personal feelings was being voiced
is because one Joe Flacco, old school Joe went out
and all he did was go thirty one of forty seven,
three hundred and forty two yards and three three touchdowns,
three three tuddies, and the Cincinnati Bengals lose to I mean,
(15:25):
beat the Pittsburgh Steelers thirty three to thirty.
Speaker 3 (15:28):
I don't like that.
Speaker 2 (15:29):
I don't like that because I picked the Steelers. Yeah,
that's already handed me one loss a Sunday.
Speaker 3 (15:36):
I'm I'm on one. It ain't even Sunday yet, oh
and one.
Speaker 1 (15:40):
And Joe Flacco, all he does is win against the
Pittsburgh Steelers. He understood it. That's why Mike Tomlin was hot.
He was hot when that conversation happened. When he saw
the trade being made, was not happy with it.
Speaker 3 (15:55):
And Marcus, can you hit some of them highlights for us?
One second? Oh my bad?
Speaker 1 (16:01):
But as this was happening last night, you and I
kept looking at our phones and I was like.
Speaker 3 (16:06):
When you showed me that it was seventeen to ten.
Speaker 2 (16:09):
I went, oh my gosh, I was because I knew
Tomlin was going to be hot generator.
Speaker 3 (16:16):
I knew he was going to be hot.
Speaker 9 (16:18):
Rogers fying time, going to his right, directing traffic.
Speaker 3 (16:24):
Throws and it is holden.
Speaker 9 (16:26):
For the touchdown. Black O lotch Lin Chase makes this
patch touchdown, pushing on each other.
Speaker 10 (16:40):
Perfectly throwing football at You knew Jamar Chase was.
Speaker 7 (16:43):
Not gonna drop battle off the fake going deep downfield
and it's going to be picked off. You got shortan battle.
Speaker 9 (17:00):
We's had a couple already this season back with a
big run back of the four and four in the.
Speaker 3 (17:04):
Crowd is.
Speaker 9 (17:07):
But throw Haggins inside the ten, Hagens to the end zone,
had a Cincinnati leave. Roncresent's time throws pawn touchdown.
Speaker 3 (17:23):
Pat Fryer move.
Speaker 9 (17:27):
Singles up by three, trying to extend the league the
touchdown and I'm not that second goal. I'm gonna tight
formation play fake. Michael shows and that's holding by the
big man Washington sitting there.
Speaker 1 (17:43):
So Mark, last night you and I were looking at
our phones and we're going back and forth about the conversation.
I ended up losing that was your play of the day.
But I actually had a little side action going on
with my homeboy. And yeah, he got money too, So
I had to pay that out and meet you, and
uh wasn't pretty good. But the story is fantasy football.
(18:05):
I knew Flacco was gonna go put up numbers. I
put him on my bench for why rock Party? Come on, man,
what am I doing?
Speaker 3 (18:13):
What am I doing? What are you doing? What I
meant party? But you had friar moves and where was
he at on my bench? Yeah? So when I asked,
what was you?
Speaker 1 (18:25):
But I asked you about friar moves?
Speaker 3 (18:28):
You asked me about game. Well, oh yeah, that's right.
Speaker 2 (18:30):
Yeah, you didn't try to put that on you because
I didn't want to eat it. But but on the
on the page, he had three point two is what
he was expected to get. He went out there called
two testdowns almost one hundred yards if not one hundred yards,
and had twenty eight points.
Speaker 3 (18:50):
And now I my guy's got to step up and
cover that.
Speaker 2 (18:54):
Yeah, yeah, that's another seventeen points that we gotta you
gotta try to eliminate.
Speaker 1 (19:03):
Yeah, but you look at it and you heard Aaron
Rodgers and what he was able to do. He almost
got destroyed by his own offensive lineman after the touchdown
of Friar move. He came and jumped on him, and
Aaron got mad because he fell to the ground, and
he's like.
Speaker 3 (19:16):
I'm old man, I am old, don't be.
Speaker 2 (19:18):
I don't need to turn into you. Every time that
I come over and look at your computer. I put
my hand on your shoulder. You're like, Mark, man, you're
so heavy, exactly. You don't understand how heavy you are.
Everybody's like, Mark, looks great. He didn't lost a whole person.
Speaker 3 (19:33):
I'm like, yeah, but his heads are still heavy. Y'all.
Don't understand the internal bleeding.
Speaker 2 (19:39):
I go through my god, stop it, listen, you know,
speaking of internal bleeding, that's what DJ Metcalf would have
if I was his team.
Speaker 1 (19:50):
DJ Maycalf, he is the worst. Yeah, he is not
a football player. I mean unbelievable.
Speaker 2 (19:58):
First got off the bus, take your shirt off and
walk off the bus and scare everybody, because that's all
you're gonna do.
Speaker 3 (20:06):
He look amazing. See, he looked like he's scared anybody anymore.
Speaker 2 (20:09):
Six three, two hundred and twenty eight pounds wide receiver,
no fat on him, can't catch a cold and always
little contact. Look, look one of these a little smack. Oh,
he giving the ball up. It's horrible. He lost the
(20:30):
battle over. He got a cornerback take the ball.
Speaker 3 (20:35):
Large.
Speaker 1 (20:36):
They got to the ball at the same time. He
took the ball from him. Marcus came in today. He
was like, he intercepted that.
Speaker 3 (20:43):
Yeah, because DJ DK that didn't fight. Yes exactly. I'm like,
what are you doing, man?
Speaker 2 (20:49):
Your team depends on you, and you're not gonna fight
over the ball. You're just gonna let that little five
to ten, one hundred and eighty pounds dude take the
ball from you.
Speaker 1 (20:59):
He strong, though, Get out of here, man, mighty mouse.
I don't want him on my team. He's the Kryptodite
to DJ. I care if your.
Speaker 2 (21:08):
Speed gets up to twenty four miles an hour. No,
I don't care. I do not want that guy on
my team. They mortgage the ranch to get him too.
Speaker 1 (21:18):
They just remember they traded it George Pickens to the
Cowboys for him.
Speaker 3 (21:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (21:25):
They were like, hey, we're gonna sign DK, but we're
gonna go and get rid of George Pickens. And now
look at George Pickens. That's because George Pickens, got a
good quarterback, possible MVP and Super Bowl winner.
Speaker 3 (21:41):
Coming up. That last part you can watch watch.
Speaker 1 (21:44):
Coming up next, I'm gonna talk a little bit of
Arch Manning in my Harde Knox life. A lot of
things that we can be positive about with this young
man right here on the feel Good Friday Football Friday
edition of the Morning Kickoff. Right here, Sports Radio AM
thirteen hundred is home. That's right, that's what I am
here for. I am here for positivity. I know why
(22:08):
you are here because we are the home of Texas
Football where you can hear all the games and our
guy Hall of Famer voice of the Texas Longhorns, Craig Way,
you can hear him this afternoon as well, but you
can also hear him on the call with Roger Wallace
Will Matthews tomorrow starting at six o'clock, actually starting at
(22:28):
five o'clock after we finish our Longhorn game Day brought
to you at Little Woodrow's on McNeil and Palmer.
Speaker 3 (22:36):
We will be there from three to five.
Speaker 1 (22:38):
Come out, hang out, bud Light specials will be going
on as well, and once kickoff starts, it's a party
like no other. But I want to talk about Arch
Manning because Arch Manning obviously is the man in the arena.
The reason why he is considered the man in the
arena is because this guy walked in with a lot
(23:00):
of pressure on him, not chosen.
Speaker 3 (23:03):
It just so happened.
Speaker 1 (23:05):
And as we watched from last year, coming in playing
a couple games, everybody got the hype and everybody started
getting excited about it. But then when he came in
as the season went on, he wasn't throwing the football.
He was more used as a running quarterback in almost
every situation.
Speaker 3 (23:23):
So things kind of happen.
Speaker 1 (23:24):
Then the season comes around, he goes on the road,
doesn't look as sharp, and people forget that he was
a young quarterback that didn't have a lot of reps.
But as I said after that game, I said, week
by week, step by step, we are gonna watch this
young man grow as a quarterback for the University of Texas.
(23:47):
That's what we saw against Florida. That's what we saw
the games after Florida, I mean after Ohio State, with
three games each step of the way. Had a little fun.
In that Sam Houston game, everybody got upset because he
stood over a guy. But that was a guy that
was dealing with a lot of frustration. That was a
guy who had to understand his role and coach Shark
(24:11):
and his family and his friends. Parker Livingston told us
I didn't see Arts look at his phone after the
Florida game. He was dialed in. He wanted to get better.
He continued to get better. But the one thing that
they've all talked about throughout this time is blocking out
the noise. On Monday, Art said he had one hundred
messages on his phone trying to block out the noise.
(24:35):
And here is what was asked the coach Shark when
he kept saying, how do you guys keep blocking out
the noise?
Speaker 4 (24:41):
Well, I think one is do his habits change and
his did not. You know, he's arch prepares and he
works at his craft. He's in the building, he's meeting
with coach Milwe, he's meeting with coach Famante. He's doing
extra work after practice, working on specific routes with guys
on the on the team of Hey, we want to
make sure we get this right.
Speaker 3 (25:03):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (25:03):
He's making audibles, he's making checks, he's taking command of
the huddle. So I don't I don't think there's been
a sigh of relief from Arch. I think it's been
more of we got to drill deeper. But but I
think what I've seen is the leadership in him. You know,
he's getting more and more comfortable of being a great leader,
being demanding of the guys around him, and the guys
(25:24):
are responding to him. And so I haven't seen anything
to tell me any anything else.
Speaker 3 (25:30):
That that he's not going to be ready to go.
Speaker 1 (25:32):
And here's one of the things that coach Sarks said,
we're seeing more and more of the leadership from Arch.
And as I said, the only way you're going to
get better in these situations is game reps. You can
have all the practice reps you want. You know your teammates,
you know everything about them, but when you go against
(25:53):
other teams, you gotta find a way to make it happen.
And one of the things that has gotten better as
the time has gone on is the scramble drill. You
heard them talking about how DeAndre Moore that wasn't the
route that was supposed to happen. Arch didn't scramble, but
they gotten better. The continuity is starting to happen. The
(26:16):
way that they have done, things got better, And Coach
Sarks said, how do you understand now with the scrambled
drill from last year's Quinn, who was totally different, didn't
move like Arch to now Arch and his scramble drill,
and now we're starting to see the continuity happen between
him and his receivers.
Speaker 4 (26:37):
I'm gonna use Quinn and then I'm gonna use Arch.
You know, Quinn's ability to kind of slide and move
and stay in the pocket, and then when he decided
to run, you could tell. And that's the hardest part
for the receiver. With Arch, it's new, you know. And
so is he really scrambling is he not? And then
(26:58):
how explosive is he Is he moving out of the
pocket or is it just sliding kind of through the pocket.
And so part of that I think comes with playing
with the guy, and it sometimes it takes game reps
to see that and to feel that of the sense
that of what that looks like.
Speaker 3 (27:12):
But I think all of our guys did a nice job.
Speaker 4 (27:15):
And I know I touched on Deandre's touchdown catch, but
he has another third down conversion on our sidelines that
he adjusts with Quinn. I think Ryan Wingo has a
really nice play. Arch gets flushed to his left and
Ryan kind of slides back and gets a third down
conversion on that. And so again you know there's a
There's another play early in the game where arches in
a drop back and flushes to his left and DeAndre
(27:38):
comes from across the field to get into his vision.
So I think it's a feel thing, but it's also,
to your point, a feel with the quarterback of when
he's actually leaving the pocket as opposed to just moving
within the pocket, and and when's it time to break
off your route and try to get into his vision.
Speaker 1 (27:54):
And that is why we are seeing the emergence of
a quarterback that is evolving into a Division one starting
quarterback for the University of Texas with everything that goes
with it, the good, the bad, and the ugly, the excitement,
the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. That
(28:15):
is why I'm saying we needed to be patient with him.
We need to continue to be patient with him. But
as a football player, he is starting to mature.
Speaker 3 (28:27):
Right before our entit.
Speaker 2 (28:28):
We both said this before the season, Like, guys, give
him a six to seven games. Remember yep. Like, and
let me touch on the two things you said. I'm
gonna be a defensive arch real quick. The reason that Arch.
Speaker 3 (28:43):
Stood over that kid is that kid was.
Speaker 1 (28:45):
Doing too much. Absolutely, that kid pushed him in the back,
and he made a tackle on him and walked over him.
Speaker 2 (28:53):
Right, and then he on Once Arts got tackled, he
stepped over him and looked down.
Speaker 3 (28:59):
So Art was giving him and playback.
Speaker 2 (29:01):
Secondly, the scramble drill, the wide receivers go to a
spot or area or a zone because that's what they're
trained to do, and Arch knows where those places are.
The defense don't. So now it also creates lanes. When
you scramble, Arch knows I can run up the sideline,
(29:24):
i can run to the middle of the field, and
I'm gonna get down. That's the whole point of scrambled
drill plays. Texas did a really good job.
Speaker 3 (29:33):
At ou On.
Speaker 2 (29:35):
Whenever they had to scramble, the players went to the
spots Arch hit them.
Speaker 3 (29:40):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (29:42):
So hopefully he'll be able to do that going forward.
But you have to experience it know that it actually better.
Speaker 1 (29:49):
That's the only way you're going to get better is
actually being on the field. Real people coming at you
that are not your teammates.
Speaker 3 (29:58):
Because your teammates, right they.
Speaker 1 (29:59):
Know where they know they can't hit you, so your
pressure is a little bit, but they also know where
the spot that you're really trying to go to it exactly.
So continue to support him, understand that he's getting better
and week to week he's going to continue to improve
because he does have the talent. Coming up next, we're
gonna close out our number one talk MLB Vladimir Garero, Bang, bang,
(30:26):
he hit that thing right here on the morning kickoff
All Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred. Yes, coming up at
the top of the hour. Some coaches are doing some
amazing things in college football and they're being rewarded for it.
We'll also talk to Ann Parker Coleman of CAVU at
(30:50):
eight seventeen that she gets previews the Texas Longhorns trip
to Kentucky, but also lets us know where the games
of the week are this weekend because Marcus likes to
go and hang out at some of these football games,
checking out the local talent and seeing what they're doing
so before they get to that next level. Last night,
(31:11):
Major League Baseball was outstanding. We talked a lot about
the old school baseball I mean football players, but an
old school baseball player did some things. But he was
also led by a young whipper snapper that continues to
knock the cover off the baseball.
Speaker 5 (31:28):
Guerrero drives the ball the other way, Ken zones going back.
He's at the wall that's gone. Blad Junior stripes again
with his fifth home run of the postseason.
Speaker 1 (31:39):
Vladimir Guerrero Junior is lights out at Laddie Dottie. He
likes the party. Bang bang, he hit that thing. Vladimir
Guerrero going too for five as they continue to put
pressure on the Mariners. They have now tied up the
series two games a piece, eight to two. Big win
(32:02):
last night, But he wasn't the only story. Max Schurzer,
old school crazy Eyes goes five and two thirds of
great electric pitching last night. Well, I wouldn't call it electric.
He did walk four guys, but he had five k's
and he did not want to come out of the
ball game. And his head coach was a little nervous
(32:24):
when he came out to the mount, you.
Speaker 10 (32:26):
Know, thinking through the situation, and all of a sudden
you see Schneight's coming out and it kind of caught
me off guard. And you know, that's just where one
of those moments where I know I wanted the ball.
Speaker 3 (32:36):
I knew this situation of the game.
Speaker 10 (32:38):
I wanted the ball, and I basically told him that
in a little bit different language.
Speaker 3 (32:42):
It was awesome. I thought he was gonna kill me.
It was great.
Speaker 10 (32:46):
You know, he locked eyes with me, you know, both
colors as I walked out.
Speaker 3 (32:51):
Yeah, he's got two different color eyes.
Speaker 1 (32:53):
And so when he came out to the mount, he's
like looking at him with the deaths, They're like, you're
not taking me out of this game. You're not taking
me out of this game. And he was like, I
just wanted to come out and see how you were doing.
Speaker 3 (33:05):
I'm just saying, hey.
Speaker 1 (33:06):
I hope everything's going okay, but when you strike this
guy out, I want you to come in here and
get some water. And sure enough, he goes back out there,
strikes the guy out and they go into the dugout
and then they remove him from the game. But what
an outstanding performance by Max. Mad Max shirts are crazy man,
but big Poppy after the game talking about hey man,
(33:27):
you're a little old, why won't you come up here
with us. Hey, honesty, man, when you're going out retired
and come and join us.
Speaker 10 (33:37):
I'm having too much fun. This is you get to
go out there and pitching this environment. Uh, this is
what you play the game for. It's so much fun
to be in these type of situations. So uh for me,
I just enjoy competing too much.
Speaker 2 (33:48):
Hey, I love it though, and bitching do they get
you with a wheelchair out of the field.
Speaker 10 (33:54):
I still feel pretty good. My body feels great, so
everything's good. So I still got your shirt with the
two different colored eyes. I thought that was pretty good.
Speaker 3 (34:02):
I love it. I love it, love it, love it.
Speaker 2 (34:03):
Brother, I have a great time, Big Poppy, Larry listen,
he should have win that, Big Poppy and say, hey man,
look I needed you to not get stabbed and almost
dying and Dominican Republic hanging out somewhere.
Speaker 3 (34:16):
Where you shouldn't be in. How about that?
Speaker 1 (34:18):
Oh you know that's a little back and forth. They
wouldn't go. You see, you just went straight personal. He's
trying to get him to come, he's trying to sit.
He sure needs to be sitting up there with you.
I'm sensitive it seems that way you over there trying
to fight Big Poppy.
Speaker 2 (34:35):
Getting stabbed and stuff like, come on, man, get out
of here.
Speaker 3 (34:38):
You can't tell me nothing.
Speaker 1 (34:40):
Also, last night there was a matchup between the Dodgers
and the Milwaukee Brewers. The Dodgers one game away from
now winning and heading.
Speaker 3 (34:48):
To the World Series.
Speaker 1 (34:50):
They're up three games to none after their victory last night,
the Dodgers win three to one, and so tonight is
a a must win game for the Milwaukee Brewers. Milwaukee
Brewers is one of the best teams in baseball. Now
we'll be facing show Hey Otani and show Hey will
be making the start in LA. That pitch will be
(35:12):
at seven thirty eight. Toronto and Seattle will be at
five oh eight. That will be on FS one. The
Milwaukee Brewers at the Dodgers will be at seven thirty eight.
I'm sure Craig Way will be wearing a Dodger's shirt
at some point this weekend.
Speaker 2 (35:30):
So is indefinitive now that pitching beats hitting. No, because
like the Dodgers, they don't need a bullpen.
Speaker 1 (35:39):
They don't need a well, they don't because their bullpen
is bad.
Speaker 3 (35:43):
The Dodgers' bullpen is bad.
Speaker 2 (35:44):
On all of their starters can pitch ten innings and
they can kill you. I mean, they just too They're
just too good. And then all of these teams are
going out and getting these best hitters and they are
sitting them down. The Dodgers, they're a scary team and
sense that every night they go out they have a
chance from a pitching standpoint.
Speaker 1 (36:04):
But they also have a chance from a hitting standpoint.
And you look at their lineup with the experience. Yes,
Sho hal Tany is struggling, Mookie's still getting his hits,
will Will Smith is still getting his Freddie Freddie Freeman.
He's still dangerous. He hit a home run the other night.
Good pitching is always gonna be hitting. That's there's no doubt. Hey,
(36:27):
that's all I wanted to know.
Speaker 3 (36:29):
But if you have.
Speaker 1 (36:30):
Hitters in that lineup, it only takes one mistake and
that's what happens. There's there's fear in the Dodgers lineup.
There's still you have to be on your game when
you're facing the Dodgers, because one through five, one through
six really is dangerous. So I can agree with you
(36:51):
to a certain extent about that.
Speaker 3 (36:54):
I was asking because you know more than I.
Speaker 1 (36:56):
But that's what I'm saying. I would agree to a
certain extent. But yes, good pitching always because it keeps
you in the ball game.
Speaker 3 (37:03):
It's low, low scoring. But if you got that.
Speaker 1 (37:06):
Threat over there, you tell me this show Hal st
Otani's zero for five, he comes up to the play.
You still scared. Yeah, Mookie Betts still scared. Freddy Freeman
still scared. You gotta make sure every pitch is a
real pitch. The difference between the Dodgers and the Brewers,
(37:27):
obviously they're up three to nothing, but the Brewers will bunt,
the Brewers will move a guy over. Dodgers are like, man,
I'm waiting for this home run right here, I know
one guy. Yeah, they gonna get They gonna get that.
But it's a it's a great look.
Speaker 3 (37:42):
But they put more.
Speaker 2 (37:42):
Pressure on you too as a as a pitching staff.
Once they get a hit and they got a lead,
now they can take some chances.
Speaker 1 (37:50):
But I will tell you this, You're right about the
starting pitching. Their starting pitching for the Dodgers is elite.
It's when they get to the bullpen it gets a
little a little bit shaky.
Speaker 3 (38:01):
It's a little bit shaky.
Speaker 1 (38:03):
But we shall see what ends up happening. Hoping he
hopefully they ended tonight and then they can rest up
and get ready to watch the rest of that series
between Seattle and Toronto Blue Jays, who are really really
swinging it. Our number one is in the books. Our
number two, we'll have that conversation about two college coaches
(38:24):
that are making some major moves and big games this
weekend right here on the Morning Kickoff on Sports Radio
AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Welcome back to our number
two of a feel good football Friday edition of the
Morning Kickoff right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred
The Zone and.
Speaker 3 (38:42):
Hour number one.
Speaker 1 (38:43):
We got a chance to get Coach Shark's final thoughts
as they are making that trip to Kentucky six pm kickoff.
You can hear it all right here starting at three
o'clock with Longhorns Game Day and of course leading you
up to the network coverage with Craig Way, Roger Wallace
and Will Matthews as we bring you to kickoff. We
(39:03):
also got a chance to talk about the Icy Hot Bowl.
Speaker 3 (39:06):
Last night as Joe.
Speaker 1 (39:08):
Flacco Outland outlasted excuse me, Aaron Rodgers last night thirty
three thirty one, Mike Tomlin's still hot because they made
that trade within the league, I mean within the division. Also,
we got a chance to talk about Arch Manning growing
up before our eyes and Major League Baseball. I want
(39:28):
to give you an opportunity to win a pair of
tickets to go see Alice Cooper and Judas Priest right now,
October to twenty fifth, Germania Insurance Amphitheater. All you got
to do is get over to that always free iHeartRadio app,
tap that red microphone and le mean the keyword ever
ever is your keyword for the day. Hey, so for
(39:50):
the week, if you've been paying attention, is our keywords
have been school is out forever forever, ever, forever ever.
Kids are out of school today, so I totally get it.
And Monday, but make sure you tune in this afternoon
for the Craig Way Show, the Voice of the Texas
(40:10):
Longhorns Craig Way from two to five right here on
Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred the Zone and always free
on that iHeartRadio app. Let's get right into this because
yesterday Indiana made the decision to extend coach Signetti And
let me just tell you this, and we talked about
this when all the firing started happened. When James Franklin
(40:34):
got let go, we talked about his name being brought
up as somebody that Penn State would go after, and
that would have been in the Big Ten Conference, so
there would have been a lot of discussion about that.
But as I said, this is when coaches get fired.
Other coaches get extensions, they get raises, and that is
what it's all about. And my favorite time about all
(40:57):
of this is when they say love this school, this
is my home, this is I'll be forever. And Signetti
is no different.
Speaker 11 (41:08):
My wife Minette and I love Indiana University, Bloomington, the
state of Indiana, the people we've met. We have very
strong feelings about President Whitney and Scott Dolson, and you know,
we've accomplished a lot here in a short amount of time,
but still have a lot of work to do. So
I couldn't be more proud to be a Hoosier and
I plan on retiring as a Hoosier. And the way
(41:31):
that this state has embraced us in our success in football,
it has meant more to me than anything else. So
I just wanted to get on camera and let you
know that Kurt Signetti is going to work daily to
make Indiana the best they can be.
Speaker 1 (41:48):
You said, plan Go ahead, Kurt, believe, make the people
believe me. I'm planned to be here. He told you,
he told you from the very beginning. Google me, Google Yah.
You want to know what kind of record I got?
Speaker 3 (42:01):
Google me.
Speaker 1 (42:03):
And now he is sitting there from number three, number
three in the nation, six and oh three and oh
in the Big ten. They are hosting Michigan State this weekend.
They are twenty seven and a half point favorite in
this ballgame.
Speaker 2 (42:21):
You know he can he can actually tell everybody. Go
check what Indiana was before I signed up here.
Speaker 3 (42:28):
And they were good since Lee Corso.
Speaker 2 (42:31):
You take the you take twenty five coaches, and you
give them Indiana's roster when I signed on, and see
if they can get here to number three.
Speaker 1 (42:42):
Right, So he got he can swing it all. He
won't remember he got into the playoffs last year.
Speaker 3 (42:48):
Yeah, he got it.
Speaker 1 (42:49):
He got Indiana into the playoffs last year.
Speaker 3 (42:52):
Also ten Yeah, big big ten.
Speaker 12 (42:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (42:57):
That conference is deep two just like the well, not
as deep as the SEC, but they are deep.
Speaker 3 (43:02):
Well.
Speaker 1 (43:02):
People are are comparing the two conferences for those reasons.
They're saying top to bottom, who's top heavy versus the bottom,
and who would be a team that you would look
at if they were to play the SEC Big ten Challenge.
I think that's something that should happen. I think they should.
Maybe no, but I'm saying every like the SEC's top
(43:26):
not top teams, but all of them schedule Big ten teams,
every single one of you, don't you.
Speaker 3 (43:31):
I mean, you can play whoever you.
Speaker 1 (43:33):
Want, but they should always have that SEC uh Big
ten challenge. Now, in football, playing on the trouble is
putting this new nine game schedule together, nevertheless adding another game. Well,
Texas played Michigan and Ohio State, so they're already party.
They're already any Oklahoma played Michigan.
Speaker 3 (43:55):
Force everybody else to step up and do it, to
do those.
Speaker 1 (43:58):
Types of things because it also and it provides intrigue
because there's no debating. You know which conference has better. Well,
we've just been play y'alling. We won eight out of
the ten games that we played, so that'll let you
know where we are and at.
Speaker 3 (44:11):
So I mean, it just happens that way.
Speaker 1 (44:14):
But these weekends games are gonna be big because there
are so many of them. But there's something else that
is happening right now in Colorado. We've heard about Dion
Sanders and what's been going on with Dion Sanders health wise,
and Dion had another surgery and was back at practice
right after that. But Dion is doing something that I
(44:35):
saw my guy on war Richardson post this of Orange Bloods.
He said, I hope more coaches are paying attention to
this because what Dion is doing is creating scenarios for
the guys on his team that he knows won't be
part of the program. He's getting them films. He's creating
(44:56):
games for these guys to be able to have film.
They want to enter the transfer portal. This is unprecedented,
and Dion talked about it.
Speaker 6 (45:05):
Like that, a lot of you guys that don't get
to play, you don't get.
Speaker 3 (45:09):
Your chance today.
Speaker 6 (45:10):
All right, this is this is your chance. God, I'm
not crazy enough to think that all you're.
Speaker 13 (45:14):
Gonna get in the room next year.
Speaker 3 (45:15):
Something you're gonna jump in the portal.
Speaker 6 (45:17):
This is an opportunity for you to get some portal film. Okay,
So I'm the guy to coach, just gonna make sure
we cut it, hype it up. Give it to you
however you want it, to make sure you're looking good
in your portal tape.
Speaker 3 (45:28):
So it's just some of you.
Speaker 6 (45:30):
Guys don't get to play. Man, I'm jumping. You already
made up your mind you're jumping, so I'm just trying
to help you jump. Okay, the rest of you guys, man,
I'm just stating there, rubbing it out and leave your
off on thing. I want you to get you some
good tape, gets you some good films, so you insess
yourself and y'all should be watching yourself practice. Y'all should
be watching.
Speaker 3 (45:48):
Yourself to see how you go about, seeing what iffve.
Speaker 6 (45:51):
It, you need, what you gotta work on. But this
is your day. I think we got your leaders. What
you think, I don't know we got I don't know
if we got band members.
Speaker 11 (45:58):
I know this.
Speaker 6 (46:00):
I'm shot to get the old spang to make you
have the feeling that this game day for you. So
when you come out there this game day, you're gonna
have your own stretch.
Speaker 3 (46:07):
Right they stretching you gotta stretching them separately.
Speaker 13 (46:10):
The rest of you guys are playing practicing.
Speaker 6 (46:12):
We gotta have a good practice today to end this
second but you're gonna say you but.
Speaker 13 (46:16):
Here, don't leave and support your teammates.
Speaker 6 (46:19):
Uh, coaches, Maine staff, We're going to talk to watch them.
Gonna be around and let the rest of the coach
and support staff. You guys got this today. Everybody got this.
Make sure they running on and off the field as
we do in the game. We're gonna have everybody on
the one side and field far side of child.
Speaker 3 (46:35):
He's gonna be on this side.
Speaker 6 (46:36):
So you're gonna have do you think have a great
day to day you guys have playing the game?
Speaker 3 (46:42):
Get your minds right. That's awesome.
Speaker 2 (46:45):
Wow, that's the innovative. Yes, and and that makes you
want to play for him. I mean, like, think about
all all the kids.
Speaker 3 (46:54):
These are the people about to go, right.
Speaker 2 (46:57):
But think about you going now? Oh yeah, you're being
recruited by them. And you know, Okay, I got a
three year senior in front of me. I got two
year junior in front of me. Like I'm he's gonna
obviously start.
Speaker 3 (47:12):
I'm gonna get a chance. But I'm gonna get a.
Speaker 2 (47:14):
Chance to show out at least once in the year
so I can have films.
Speaker 3 (47:18):
So if I do have to leave, no coach is
gonna have to say, well, what can he do? Yeah?
You know, and I'm man, I'm very proud of that.
I like that. That's that's something I think that every
team should do well. I mean, that is unique in itself.
Speaker 1 (47:35):
And maybe they have done this, but Dionne said, we're
gonna bring the cheerleaders, We're gonna try to get the band,
We're gonna hype your video up. So when you get
ready to go somewhere, you know exactly you got the
opportunity to do it.
Speaker 2 (47:50):
He's outside the box thinker, absolutely, and when you have
somebody that can actually make those kind of have those
thoughts come to fruition.
Speaker 3 (48:00):
Man, there's no limit to your success, right.
Speaker 2 (48:04):
He's not allowing a limit.
Speaker 3 (48:07):
To be set on his success.
Speaker 1 (48:09):
That's what I enjoy about listening to him because he's
he's changed his entire life, his persona. I mean, he's
still dion let's not get it twisted. But he's also
a person that has has shown that he actually cares
about these players. I'm not saying other coaches don't do that.
I'm sure that they do, but he understands what world
(48:32):
we're living in now. Kids aren't staying. Kids are moving on,
They're gonna get opportunities. As I talked about before, Cam
Cook running back from TCU, went to Jacksonville State and.
Speaker 3 (48:45):
Everybody's like, why would he go there? He's just left TCU.
Speaker 1 (48:48):
He's having an unbelievable year, like he is absolutely killing
it and he's happy. And that is where everything is.
Everybody thinks these big schools are the way to go. No,
go where you can play develop and then the big
schools can come and get you. You can go to
a big school, but nothing is guaranteed for you to
(49:11):
have that playing tom.
Speaker 2 (49:13):
This is the thing that I'm looking at my I
had a really good coach tell us as collectively as
a team, do you think that you're going to use
every club and your golf bag? And everybody was like
maybe not No. He said, well in that case, what
do you have to do? You still have to bring
(49:35):
your bag with you, right yep. And we was all like, yeah, well,
you know, can you explain this because we were kids,
But you have to have all the weapons and you
have to take them regardless whether you use them or not.
Speaker 3 (49:52):
And these players got to understand that that's who they are.
Speaker 2 (49:55):
They're a weapon in the bag and if you don't
get used, don't mean that you're not important. And Dion
is proving that Gihon's doing everything he can to make
these kids achieve their goals in life.
Speaker 3 (50:07):
Coming up next, we're gonna talk to.
Speaker 1 (50:09):
Ann Parker Coleman, that's right, CAVU as she prepares us
for Friday Night Fever and of course get her thoughts
on this Texas football team as they travel to Kentucky,
and all of that can be heard right here on
Sports Radio AM thirteen.
Speaker 3 (50:25):
Hundred The Zone.
Speaker 1 (50:27):
It's a feel good football Friday edition of The Morning Kickoff.
And you know what that means. It's eight seventeen, So
it's time to go and visit our girl, Ann Parker
Coleman of CAVU as she gets us ready for the
weekend and Friday Night Fever because it is that time.
Speaker 3 (50:48):
How you doing good?
Speaker 13 (50:50):
I have some beef with you guys.
Speaker 12 (50:52):
They saw you were an ice Cube concord and you
didn't invite your girl.
Speaker 1 (50:56):
I thought I thought you had better. Yeah, we were
thinking that you had to host last night. Yeah, so
we didn't want to put that kind of pressure on
you because it's hard to call in sick as a
news reporter.
Speaker 12 (51:07):
Hey, so true, they need me, there's quite literally the
show goes on, right, it's luckily luckily for you guys.
I actually was making my way to Kios, South Carolina
bonus points if anybody knows where that is, for a
friend's wedding. So got here at four in the morning
and up and at them this morning, ready to talk.
Speaker 13 (51:27):
In Texas football.
Speaker 1 (51:28):
Well, thank you so much for gracing us with your
presence on your travel schedule, because I know you're a busy,
busy individual. But let's talk about the Texas Longhorse last weekend. Obviously,
the Red River rivalry goes off and people are like, wow,
this is the team that we expected to see. All
(51:49):
three phases were outstanding. What were your thoughts of that matchup?
Speaker 12 (51:55):
Gosh, guys, I don't even know where you could begin
with red River. I mean, Arts just looked way more comfortable.
The run game was actually going third downs. I was
really impressed with, and we know.
Speaker 13 (52:06):
That that's a stat that Texas has been pretty horrendous
at and both of.
Speaker 12 (52:09):
Their losses they were converting on less than thirty five
percent of third downs. And then you know they come
out after halftime in red River and they convert on
all their third downs, they or eating up the clock,
and it's all because they just had short passes.
Speaker 13 (52:25):
They ate up the clock rather than you know, when
you're in Florida. Gosh.
Speaker 12 (52:29):
I mean, it felt like every single time they're in
third down, it was third and long and they just
couldn't get it done. But I believe the final staffer
for again sou was they went eleven for seventeen on
third downs, which is a major, major improvement. So it
just in special teams. I feel like a bragget on
this team, because I kind of am. But it just
felt like in that second half, especially anything that you
looked at, they took some strides forward.
Speaker 3 (52:51):
And we.
Speaker 2 (52:54):
Miss Podka, excuse me, excuse me, miss Podd, You did
you really enjoy the offensive line play as much as
I did at the all the flak that they took
last week, all the week before last, they went out
this week and really put it together and look like
(53:15):
a different unit.
Speaker 13 (53:16):
Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
Speaker 12 (53:18):
I think you know the difference is, look at a
guy like mcbrooks, he's really young. And Sirk said, the
thing with Florida is, you know he had hit a
preseat penalty and then one bad play then rolls into
another and another, and we would see all of those
back to back.
Speaker 13 (53:33):
Faalse starts from him at you that happened. Hey, he
jumped off, he.
Speaker 12 (53:39):
Jumped off sides and then you know, But the thing
is is he didn't let that flood into the rest
of the game, and that kind of shows maturity that
he was able to like lock it back in. And again,
that was not an easy assignment. We heard all week
how good the Oklahoma front is, and I mean text,
(54:00):
it's just held their own. They looked like a completely
different unit than the one we saw at Florida.
Speaker 1 (54:06):
Well, it's interesting that you said that because we are
now dealing with a situation with that offensive line that
has offensive guard counter Scrow has been downgraded to out.
Speaker 3 (54:18):
We also know that about Cole Hudson, he is out.
Speaker 1 (54:22):
So that offensive line looks a little bit different than
what we were going to what we were expecting to
see after the performance on Saturday.
Speaker 13 (54:31):
Yeah, big time.
Speaker 12 (54:33):
But if there's something that we've learned about this group,
I mean, gosh, I didn't think that they're gonna respond
against Oklahoma in the way that they respond from Florida.
Speaker 13 (54:41):
In the way that they did against Oklahoma.
Speaker 12 (54:44):
So even though Cole Hudson is out, I mean, gosh,
you have a guy like Connor Robertson, who is a
veteran on that team, even though you know he wasn't
starting technically, but he played pretty much.
Speaker 13 (54:56):
I almost think every snap other than maybe the first
one or two in Red River, I'm not as worried.
I'm not as worried about them.
Speaker 12 (55:04):
They gave me a lot to be confident about in Oklahoma,
and again that was against a much more talented defensive
line than what they're going to see against Kentucky.
Speaker 1 (55:13):
Well, you talked about the special teams and what they
were able to do. Coach Sark has been waiting for
the special teams to kind of pop off, and he
was talking about it, and he even mentioned it again yesterday
in his Weekly conversation that special.
Speaker 3 (55:27):
Teams is here.
Speaker 1 (55:28):
When you got all three phases working, it makes it
difficult for other teams to kind of pull away from
you because your special teams, your defense, and now your
offense is all working together.
Speaker 3 (55:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 13 (55:42):
Absolutely, Sark said this yesterday and I loved it.
Speaker 12 (55:45):
I mean, you know, Punk returns and kickoffs with Ryan
Niblett have been rolling, but look at field goals. When
you're trying to block a field goal, that shows culture.
He said, Your chances of blocking a field goal is
really really slim, and still you see guys going out
there and jumping up, you know, six feet into.
Speaker 13 (56:04):
The air just giving it. They're all even though they're
probably not going to get there.
Speaker 12 (56:06):
That shows the kind of culture that that Texas has
and it's it's funny. Sark was asked, you know, what's
an underrated part of this team's development that you've noticed,
you know now kind of in the midway point of
this season, and he said, it's it's special teams, Like
that's that's such a weapon for us that we haven't
talked about as much as we should.
Speaker 1 (56:26):
Yeah, and that was something that we have been focusing
on because over the past couple of years they went
from being real hot to okay, when are we going
to have something happen in special teams? And last week
was the time that we got it and could have
gotten called for a couple of blocks in the back,
but we're not gonna talk about that.
Speaker 13 (56:43):
That's true.
Speaker 12 (56:44):
How excited are you for for Ryan Nibblin, a guy
who came into the program. He's been moved to almost
every position under the sun. I know he thought about transferring,
Sark said. I just didn't let him transfer, like I
did not want him to go. He's a blue guy,
he's a culture guy, and so for him to find
his niche on special teams and succeed in the way
that he did on Saturday, there's so much transferring is
(57:08):
so easy in this state age. To see you guys
stick it out and find success at his original program,
it's so few and far between now.
Speaker 13 (57:17):
Just really it's really really excited for him.
Speaker 3 (57:20):
Yeah, we are too.
Speaker 1 (57:22):
We're talking to Anne Parker Coleman of KVU and you know,
we got to talk to you about.
Speaker 3 (57:27):
Friday Night Fever. It's that time.
Speaker 1 (57:29):
There's some big matchups in the area, some playoff implications
and a lot of these and I believe one of
the ones that a lot of folks are talking about
is the game in Dripping Springs. Dripping Springs, and I
believe Lake Travis is that matchup this week. But what
are some of the games you guys are looking at?
Speaker 12 (57:49):
Yeah, I mean Dripping Springs and Lake Travis. We know
that these are two teams.
Speaker 13 (57:53):
That could make a deep playoff run.
Speaker 12 (57:56):
Look at both of their quarterbacks, super super talented. It
is going to be an incredible game with some playoff implications.
And then the other one that we're looking at with
similar implications is going to be Georgetown and Eastview.
Speaker 13 (58:09):
These schools are near miles apart.
Speaker 12 (58:12):
Big time rivals, but they're both tied right now for
first place in the district. So we got first place
in the districts online bragging rights. And if you're Eastview,
they have not won this game. They have not beaten
Georgetown in over a decade. I went and I talked
to some of the Georgetown players and.
Speaker 13 (58:28):
They didn't even try to say it. They weren't even
trying to shape them. They were like, we don't really
feel like it's a rivalry anymore. They just, you know,
there's not a rivalry and tales anyway.
Speaker 1 (58:39):
Yeah, And it's funny because I got a unique tie
to both of those schools because my son, Michael, my
older son, who just celebrated a birthday, he went to
Eastview when it was a ninth grade center, but he
was on varsity basketball as a freshman, so he had
to be part of both schools. So it was kind
of a unique situation because Eastview was just ninth grade
(59:00):
and then it became the high school and he was
already at Georgetown High School. It's kind of crazy. Yeah,
And like you said, no rivalry really because Georgetown has
been pretty much the most dominant team in that area
for quite some time.
Speaker 13 (59:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 12 (59:16):
And and Georgetown, I mean got Shertina has a lot
of weapons. They're running back jet Walker and then on
wide receiver Xavier Warren, who was the u c l
A commit and then.
Speaker 13 (59:28):
He decommitted to Texas State.
Speaker 12 (59:30):
Texas State has now gone win to since then and
UCLA has gone to and oh since he.
Speaker 13 (59:35):
Did the flip, So he might be he might be
a good.
Speaker 12 (59:38):
Luck turn for UCLA on the other side. But gosh,
she's just a lot of talents all around.
Speaker 1 (59:42):
And they got a wide receiver with the last name
of Westfall that is pretty dog gone good on Georgetown
athletic kid. And uh, he's going to have an opportunity
to play in college as well. So enjoy your wedding
and be peaceful out there. But of course you got
to be ready for the Texas Longhorns at six o'clock
on we'll be seven o'clock for you because you're on
(01:00:03):
the East coast.
Speaker 12 (01:00:04):
Now, Yep, we picked a good weekend of college football
for a wedding.
Speaker 13 (01:00:10):
I was like, oh, every single game that I wanted to.
Speaker 12 (01:00:12):
Workay, who gets.
Speaker 11 (01:00:17):
Good to go?
Speaker 3 (01:00:18):
Who gets married in the fall.
Speaker 13 (01:00:20):
Who gets married in the fall? My friend exactly, who
I'm very excited for.
Speaker 3 (01:00:25):
That's awesome. That's awesome.
Speaker 1 (01:00:26):
We'll enjoy your time out there, and we'll talk to
you next week and hopefully we'll be talking about a
Longhorns victory next Friday.
Speaker 13 (01:00:34):
All right, take care of thanks, guys, Thank you so much.
Speaker 3 (01:00:36):
There she is Anne Parker Coleman of CAVU.
Speaker 1 (01:00:39):
Tomorrow we'll have her one of her partners with her
at CAVU. Corey Moles will be joining us on the
pre game show over at Little Woodrow's before he has
to go in and host the uh the News.
Speaker 3 (01:00:55):
On Friday night on Saturday night.
Speaker 1 (01:00:57):
Excuse me, coming up next, we got our Mark Henry
giving us the world strongest team right here on the
morning kickoff on sports radio and thirteen hundred is all.
Speaker 3 (01:01:09):
You heard him. He said, that's what he do and
what he do right now, is.
Speaker 1 (01:01:15):
Let you know, he's the w WE Hall of Famer,
He's recognized as the world's strongest men, and he is
here to bring you his world's strongest.
Speaker 3 (01:01:24):
Take is d Mark Henry.
Speaker 1 (01:01:27):
Take it away, big fellow, hard what's uthing?
Speaker 6 (01:01:30):
Man?
Speaker 3 (01:01:30):
You know what time it is.
Speaker 2 (01:01:31):
That for Thomas, It's time for the world's strongest.
Speaker 3 (01:01:35):
Take by the world's strongest man.
Speaker 2 (01:01:40):
My guess back then they didn't know, but now I'm hot,
they're all on me. Well, guys, we have big plans
this basketball season. We plan on going to Dallas, were
playing I'm going to Houston. We're playing on going to
(01:02:02):
San Antonio. But we're gonna take this world strongest take
to Houston. Last night, the Houston Rockets played a preseason
game against the Atlanta Hawks, and I'm always the guy
that comes on and say I told you, when I
(01:02:22):
told you, and I told you well one Kevin Durant
said that josh Ogi.
Speaker 3 (01:02:34):
Was the best acquisition.
Speaker 2 (01:02:37):
That the Houston Rockets have made, even with him coming
to which I don't. That's that's called being a hype man.
For you for somebody you you like, Kevin, you are
the You're the reason for the season.
Speaker 3 (01:02:52):
Brother.
Speaker 2 (01:02:53):
Please Please don't give nobody else any credit ever.
Speaker 3 (01:02:57):
Again, you're the guy.
Speaker 2 (01:03:00):
But all josh Ogi did last night was go out
and go eight for fifteen. He had three rebounds, three assists,
two steals, and twenty eight points.
Speaker 3 (01:03:19):
Uh, that's pretty good.
Speaker 2 (01:03:21):
And Kevin Durant described josh Ogi, who is a six
to four small forward in the NBA, which is very undersized.
He said, he's like a football player that plays basketball.
You need one of those guys on your team hard.
You made the statement to me, Mark, that's like saying
(01:03:44):
you got a bodyguard, you gotta you got a gangster.
You got a thug that's gonna be able to go
in there and do the dirty work. We watched Oklahoma
City win last the NBA Championship last here because of
two guys like that. They had two guys on that
(01:04:06):
defense and that played defense really well, Caruso being one
of them and the other one being Lou Dort underside
sixty four sixty five small forwards. At one point, Caruso
was bodying up a center, and not just any center,
(01:04:30):
but Joker, the best center in the NBA and one
of the top three players in the NBA. IF Kevin
Durant feels like josh Ogi could be one of those
type of players. And he performs like he did last
night against high level NBA talent, that's gonna give Houston
(01:04:56):
a big lift. And I'm I'm just going on record
right now, is my take is that the championship be
won and.
Speaker 3 (01:05:05):
Lost by a Texas team. What'll say you? Can you
say that last statement once again?
Speaker 2 (01:05:14):
My take is that the championship of the NBA will
be one.
Speaker 3 (01:05:21):
Or lost by a Texas team. Mark Yess, please keep
that tape right there. I would love for the Lakers
to win.
Speaker 2 (01:05:34):
I do not think the Lakers could be Dallas in
a series. I do not think that the Lakers can
be Houston in a series. And San Antonio is gonna
give everybody in the league a run for their money
if they can stay help.
Speaker 3 (01:05:50):
For entertainment purposes.
Speaker 2 (01:05:53):
Only folks Oklahoma City will not be They've been celebrating.
Speaker 3 (01:05:57):
They still partying. I will too.
Speaker 1 (01:06:01):
The young out there, they just stay focused.
Speaker 2 (01:06:06):
All I see is, uh, guys in France, people in
in monic Co party.
Speaker 3 (01:06:13):
In like they're doing it.
Speaker 2 (01:06:14):
Big s g A is in Toronto at Caravana Festival,
like all of these stuff. Yeah, I'm not stalking their pages,
and the sounds like I'm just saying it sounds like
I'm seeing people party in You know, I ain't seeing
a lot of workout videos.
Speaker 1 (01:06:32):
Hey, they don't because they real GE's moving silence like Lasagneah,
they don't. They don't want to show. They want to
show you the fruit till they labor. They don't want
to see you show you how they was getting.
Speaker 3 (01:06:44):
You can't be talking about lazagna and fruits. Oh my god,
cause this dude is really hungry again.
Speaker 1 (01:06:49):
But I will say this, the funny part about what
you just said is I will not be disappointed if
a Texas team win the championship. I just think there's
too many integral parts that have to be played the
right way. You talked about Kyrie Irving yesterday and watching
(01:07:10):
what Cooper Flag has been able to do. If Kyrie's
not there, it's gonna be difficult for them.
Speaker 3 (01:07:15):
They gotta have another. He's practicing already, he just haven't played.
Speaker 1 (01:07:18):
But he's got an injury. He's coming off of an injury,
and Kyrie is older. He's not that young Kyrie that
can bounce back as quick. So I'm looking at that,
I'm looking at what you talked about with san Antonio. Yes,
I'm excited about san Antonio. They have a lot to
learn as far as being able to be cohesive and
(01:07:40):
grow together. A new coach. You got Daron Fox, what's
his situation going to be? Got ninety five guards? What
is going to happen with that? Then you look at
what Houston is KD older player. Yes, he's got some
guys that are really really good. I think the best
thing that happened was KD coming and now Jabari Smith
(01:08:04):
is going to learn from KD. Right, that's the That's
the one to me, that's the X factor because that
is I believe he was like a top two pick. Yeah,
I think he was number two, number three, number three, okay,
number three pick in the draft. This dude has skills, skills,
but he didn't understand how to be a pro. KD
(01:08:26):
is there now teaching them. So this is one of
the teams. But you gotta you can't forget about all
the other teams that are out there.
Speaker 2 (01:08:33):
That makes teams made moves. Yeah, yeah, but Houston is big.
That's the difference. Houston is big and they just got bigger,
bringing Kevin durant In, who's going to challenge people's shots.
Speaker 1 (01:08:48):
Everybody on their teams got the wings fans seven to five.
Speaker 3 (01:08:51):
Same goon. That dude is seven to one.
Speaker 2 (01:08:55):
And he actually was one of the top five players
in the EuroLeague this year, and in fact he played
in the championship and lost by one point.
Speaker 3 (01:09:04):
You ain't got to sell me.
Speaker 1 (01:09:05):
Mark Illn told you I'm with you and they got Adams.
Speaker 3 (01:09:09):
You don't have to sell He like a condo you
trying to duke? Is he like a He got his
own zim code.
Speaker 1 (01:09:20):
There is the world's strongest man bringing you his world's
strongest take. When we come back, we'll close out the
show and send you to damn prat. Patrick will tell
you where we will be tomorrow, and we'll still preview
what we got going this weekend right here on the
morning kickoff on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred the Zone.
(01:09:44):
What a great, great show we have had for you,
and we're going to continue to have this party going
all day long. Tune in to the Craig Waight Show
this afternoon on AM thirteen hundred to Zone, but always free.
Speaker 3 (01:09:58):
On the high Heart Radio app.
Speaker 1 (01:10:01):
Tell your friends, download us, make us number one on
your presets because we are your home for Texas football
and Texas Athletics. Speaking of Texas football, they will be
on the road taking on Kentucky. We'll be starting our
pre game show live at Little Wood Rows on Palmer
and McNeil, starting at three o'clock. Come out and hang
(01:10:25):
out with us. But like specials will be on tap.
And then of course you just heard Cam Parker. He
has an event at Cosmic Centino. All the information will
be given out today, but we also want to talk
about the Texas Longhorns. Trey Wisner came back from an injury.
(01:10:47):
He was so important to the aspect of the running
game ninety four yards hard running. Looked a little banged up,
but he continued to make things happen and coach was
asked about Trey wisner assessment off of the injury.
Speaker 3 (01:11:02):
I think he's gotten better and stronger.
Speaker 4 (01:11:05):
You know, coming off of injuries are always difficult. Mentally
is one, but but I think physically is two and
and and am I am I okay to push it?
Speaker 3 (01:11:16):
Am I really okay to go?
Speaker 4 (01:11:18):
And you know, I think what he found out last
week is that he's healthy, He's good he's strong, he's
mentally strong and going and doing those things. And and again,
we know Trey very well and we know what he's
capable of, and we know the mental and physical toughness
that he possesses. And so but I think it served
as a great example for some of our younger backs
(01:11:41):
in the style of running that Trey runs with and
the physicality, uh and the speed through the whole, not
to the whole, and I think it was very helpful.
And it was very helpful. I thought for Christian and James.
They actually practiced their best week of practice this week
because I think they actually saw the health version of
Trey wiser and what it looks like to run in
(01:12:03):
game and then come back and practice and go do
it again this week. And so I'm excited for those
two guys as well, because I think that sometimes you
need to see it in person to be like, Oh,
that's what it takes. That's how you got to run.
Those are the arm tackles you have to run through.
That's the Hey. Sometimes it's not always about making a
guy miss. Sometimes you got to run through his face
(01:12:25):
and fall forward for two or three more yards. And
when you're a guy of Trey's stature doing that, Man,
what am I capable of doing?
Speaker 3 (01:12:31):
If I can start running like that, he showed it.
Sometimes you got to do that. You got to run
through their face.
Speaker 1 (01:12:41):
And that's why he's He's an integral part of the
success that the Texas football team had on the ground
last week. It created an opportunity for Arch to do
the the zone read and grab that ball. At the end,
the RPO got a first down into the game and
walked it off. Also, another big matchup this weekend is
the Dallas Cowboys as they take on the Washington Commanders.
(01:13:06):
The Cowboys need this game like a hole in their head.
Speaker 3 (01:13:09):
They got to figure.
Speaker 1 (01:13:10):
This thing coming back, and Coach Schottenheimer was asked about
what it's like to have CD back on the field.
If he's breathing, the feel pretty good, honestly, No, I
mean CD knows how to play football.
Speaker 3 (01:13:25):
If he runs around and catches a pass or two,
I'm good.
Speaker 1 (01:13:28):
That's what we need if CD's back on the field.
Along with what we've seen from George Pickens. Obviously, Jake
Ferguson has been eating all year. With Javonte Williams in
the running game has been exciting. So this is a
big weekend for the Dallas Cowboys. But the one thing
that CD cannot do is not play defense. So that
(01:13:51):
right there is where we are struggling so bad. Dallas
has the number one offense and the number thirty two defense.
They could be thirty four or thirty five, but they're
grating on the curve. So you look at this team
and you realize that we are in for shootouts every weekend.
Speaker 3 (01:14:10):
Our guy Clarence Hill.
Speaker 1 (01:14:13):
Posted the other day that the Cowboys blinked because they
know that they got to score thirty points and they
scored twenty seven. So they failed on what they needed
to do, and that is bad.
Speaker 3 (01:14:25):
If you're a Cowboys.
Speaker 2 (01:14:26):
Fan, Well, I'm disappointed in the fact that they allowed
it to get to this point. Yeah, Like, you should
never let the cupboard get so bare and adocate so
much money to offense that you don't have it to
spend on defense.
Speaker 3 (01:14:43):
He's the greatest quarterback to ever play for it.
Speaker 2 (01:14:46):
Don't have a problem with that he got don't have
a problem with the seed Idians. But they they spent
a lot of money on guys that they shouldn't have
because they didn't want other people to have them. Yeah,
and that's the problem. Like if you can't, I don't
overpay somebody because you don't want somebody else to have
(01:15:06):
them go with option too and try to coach them up.
Speaker 3 (01:15:10):
How about that.
Speaker 1 (01:15:11):
But see, that's the biggest problem that we have is
the coaching them up. Because you went out and got Eberflus.
You're gonna tell me that was the only defensive quarter
that you could have went and got. Because look, it's
like I told you numerous times, Mark, show me a
(01:15:32):
coach that can't look out to put you in the
best position where you're going to succeed, and I'll show
you a failing coach. The Cowboys defense is better when
they play man to man or a soft not a
soft zone, but a short zone.
Speaker 3 (01:15:48):
They are playing fifteen yards off the game. I'm wide
open that hut.
Speaker 1 (01:15:55):
You can't get to the flats quick enough, you can't
cover them.
Speaker 3 (01:15:58):
I'm a fall four yards exactly.
Speaker 1 (01:16:01):
So those are the things if you let your guy
Digs get beat on a man the man press coverage
where he is successful, not in the soft zone where
he's got to run back up and try to make
a tackle.
Speaker 3 (01:16:17):
It just doesn't make any sense to.
Speaker 2 (01:16:18):
Me, yeah, because he's trying, but you're so far away
from him that he can't get there.
Speaker 1 (01:16:26):
You're playing so far off. And if Kenneth Murray, who
I listen. I met Kenneth Murray at Big twelve media days.
I thought he was a dog. I hated him because
he went to Oklahoma, but I thought he was a
bad man. But time waits for no one, and he
is running out of time as the linebacker for the
Dallas Cowboys. He is not making the move and they're
(01:16:50):
talking about to Marvin and Overshan and I can't wait
to see him play, but they are setting him up
for failure because he can't be a savior on this defense.
Speaker 3 (01:16:59):
I don't care how good he is.
Speaker 1 (01:17:01):
He cannot save this madness of the Dallas Cowboys defense.
By the way, you can listen to the Dallas Cowboys
on ninety eight point one KVET, the same place that
you can listen to the game.
Speaker 3 (01:17:12):
But we want you listen for Texas football game.
Speaker 1 (01:17:15):
But we want you listening to it right here on
sports Radio AM thirteen hundred to zone. We'll be at
Little Woodrow starting at three o'clock tomorrow. Make sure you
tune into that. And of course, we are going to
bring you all the action and recap everything on Monday.
So for Mark, Henry, for Marcus, I'm hardball hard and
just remember.
Speaker 3 (01:17:35):
This, don't believe everything you.
Speaker 1 (01:17:37):
See because even salt looks like sugar and today was
a good day.
Speaker 3 (01:17:42):
Peace. Ice Cube
