Heidi of Texas.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
Men's basketball got a chance to talk to the media

co host is a WWE Hall of Famer and recognized

(01:23):
as the world's strongest man.

Speaker 3 (01:24):
He is d Mark Henry.

Speaker 4 (01:26):
Good morning Austin, and.

Speaker 1 (01:29):
Of course we've got our guy Marcus behind the boards.
And if you want to be a part of the show,
all you got to do is text the word Texas
followed by your message to eight one five three zero.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
Standard data and message rates may apply.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
That's the word Texas followed by your message to eight
one five three zero. Standard data and message rates may apply. Also,
if you want to avoide your opinion, all you got
to do is use that talk back feature on a
new and improved and always free iHeartRadio app. If it's
good enough, you might even hear it on air. Well,

(02:00):
a lot has happened in the forty Acres here recently,
a lot of changes, a lot of people in the
transfer portal coaches on the move. But yesterday there was
some news that came out on the forty Acres that
wasn't only shocking to those that are following the Texas Longhorns,
it was shocking to those that actually are working to

(02:22):
make sure that the Texas Longhorns are ready to roll.
And here it is Texas getting ready to go into
the bowl game, and some news comes out on the
forty Acres yesterday that might be changing the direction of
the squad. But I want you to hear this conversation

(02:43):
that had taken place just a what November the twenty
fourth coach Shark.

Speaker 3 (02:51):
Made a statement.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
That my guy Jeff Jones of KVU found and he
posted this yesterday, And then we'll tell you what the
news is.

Speaker 5 (03:00):
We don't need to try harder on defense. We need
to keep doing our job really well. And I think
that it's it sounds like a simple fix, and I
think we've obviously addressed it. But when you look at
where some of our breakdowns occurred Saturday, it's from really
veteran players who have played high level football for us.
That we just need to get them back to playing

(03:20):
within the scheme of the defense and playing to their capabilities.
If we do, that will be a lot better off
than where we've been maybe the last couple of weeks.

Speaker 1 (03:29):
And with that being said, the news comes down yesterday
that they brought back a blast from the past, and
hopefully this is what it brings there. It is Will
must Champ coach boom back on the forty acres and mark.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
When the news came out yesterday.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
It was it was let's just say a lot of
people will caught off guard when that happened yesterday.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
A lot of people were caught off guard, except for
football people. Texas hard you said it best this season.
Excuse me this season you said, why are we playing
fifteen yards off the ball? That's my heart brother, Well

(04:26):
we playing fifteen yards off the ball?

Speaker 4 (04:29):
Well, guys, you won't see that.

Speaker 2 (04:32):
Will Muschamp is a guy that likes to challenge and
play bump and run. If you don't play good bump
and run coverage, your five star rear end will be
playing for somebody else because he does not play and
five gaps. Man, he hits five gaps. He wants to

(04:56):
have at least one free rusher. So who's that gonna be.
Brianon Ragpo don't play for Texas no more. But when
he did, he was the man because he had one
on ones, because there were five men on the line
of scrimmage at all times. You are in trouble, guys,

(05:16):
if you are playing against Texas with his gap scheme.
All you gotta do is check out the team that
beat Texas. Georgia consistently beat Texas because of the gap
scheme and a bump and run coverage against our receivers.

Speaker 4 (05:36):
I rest my case.

Speaker 1 (05:38):
I don't know if it's resting your case, but I
will say this I did.

Speaker 3 (05:43):
I was questioning some.

Speaker 1 (05:44):
Of the the depth in which our defense was playing.
But let's not forget about the years before PK got here.
You've also put a bunch of guys in the NFL.
He's putting nine guys on that defensive side of the
ball in the NFL. Over the last couple of years,
we've seen development on that side of the ball.

Speaker 3 (06:05):
I don't understand how.

Speaker 1 (06:08):
The fact that there were some times where the offense
did not did not score points and the defense kept
us in the ball game. You got all Americans representing
you on the defensive side of the ball.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
Now, I do.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
Understand, you can't play prevent defense prevents you from winning
the games.

Speaker 3 (06:28):
But as a head coach, you can.

Speaker 1 (06:30):
Get into that headset and say, hey, no, we need
to change our defense and be able to attack, attack, attack.

Speaker 3 (06:38):
There's a lot of it.

Speaker 1 (06:39):
I said it all Gas, No breaks that plays on
the offensive side of the ball too. We haven't seen
anything happen on that side of the ball yet, Well,
we got we do.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
We have to see more of a great, aggressive, downfield
striking offense as well as a defense that plays man coverage.
Sometimes you don't have to do bumping run, but five
yards not fifteen, Especially in a.

Speaker 4 (07:08):
Situation where you're third.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
Down and seven, like third down and seven and you
playing ten yards off the ball, all you gotta do
is throw a hit.

Speaker 4 (07:19):
You gonna fall five.

Speaker 2 (07:22):
And Texas, That's what Texas failed to a lot of
times and hards we complained about it. I'm not saying
that coach pk and coach A Keno was were not
great coaches. Yes they were great coaches. But if you
want an aggressive style of offense and you're not getting it,

(07:45):
you shouldn't have to micro manage your coaches. You shouldn't
have to say, hey, guys, maybe we should bump and run,
maybe we should play You shouldn't have to do that.

Speaker 1 (07:55):
Tell Nick Sabing that tell Nick saving that he learned
under that tree. Right, those are the things that those
are the things that Hey, at the end of the day,
you're the head coach of the team.

Speaker 4 (08:10):
It's my decision.

Speaker 1 (08:10):
It's your decision on what happens with this team. Look,
maybe that's why they got to change.

Speaker 3 (08:18):
What do you mean.

Speaker 2 (08:21):
Maybe he wanted that and didn't get that. Maybe you
don't make you don't make wholesale changes like this and
make statements like he just made. That statement that he
made was not a statement recent. That was during the season, yep.

Speaker 4 (08:37):
So he already had in his mind that he wanted more.

Speaker 3 (08:44):
Yeah, it seems to be.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
But again, some people that are close to the program
seemed very shocked about this as well. I know that
you look at the numbers and where Texas has been
over the last few years. Yes, there might have been
some things in the secondary that was different. Well let's
not forget they were third in sacks this past year

(09:08):
and you got some specials from some guys that hadn't
been out there playing at a high level. So it's
an interesting it's an interesting move to say the last.
And to back up what you were talking about, Duayne
a Qina, who was just returned, the godfather of DBU,
had just returned to the forty Acres.

Speaker 3 (09:28):
He too was relieved of his.

Speaker 1 (09:30):
Duties yesterday, and it did put college football in a
buzz to see that happen, not only because of the
movement of letting PK and Dwaynea Quena go, coach a
Qina go, but it was the fact that you're bringing
back someone who was integral in the success of Texas football.

(09:50):
But Mark, let's be honest with that, man, that was
a while back.

Speaker 3 (09:55):
That was a while back.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
It's kind of like when people were like, oh, Dwayne
a Kena's coming back, and they were like, wow, that
was a long time ago when Texas did this or
Texas did that. Fact still remains. You're making a change,
and you're making a change before a bowl game as well.

Speaker 2 (10:14):
Well.

Speaker 4 (10:15):
I mean, I'm sure there's not gonna be wholesale changes.

Speaker 2 (10:19):
Between now and the bowl game, but what you will
have is you'll have just like we talked about the
running backs coach coming and him being able to bring
people with him that he knows will be helped Texas
in the future, You'll have the same thing with Muscham

(10:40):
There's gonna be a couple of people brought in that
he's like, no, I.

Speaker 4 (10:45):
Know this guy with what y'all already have, it's gonna
make Texas d team, So.

Speaker 2 (10:53):
Look forward to some really intense veteran defensive players that'll
be coming to the forty Acres.

Speaker 1 (11:02):
Yeah, yeah, well, we're definitely gonna be paying attention to it,
especially now you start looking at all the moves that
are being made across college football.

Speaker 3 (11:12):
I guarantee if PK.

Speaker 1 (11:13):
Wants to coach, it won't be long before he gets
an opportunity to be on there. One thing that kind
of kind of as funny as the money situation again,
but Texas is able to stroke that check.

Speaker 3 (11:27):
I guess you would say.

Speaker 1 (11:28):
Coming up next, we're gonna continue to talk in FL
we got college football playoffs, We've got Quinn yours back
in the league. We also got Texas basketball conversation with
Cam Heide, one of the best players on the team,
and he talks about the competitiveness of it all.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
We'll continue it right here on a.

Speaker 1 (11:48):
Feel good Friday edition of The Morning Kickoff on Sports
Radio AM thirteen hundred, the Zone and always free on
that iHeartRadio adder. Welcome back to the Morning Off right
here on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred to Zone and
always free on the iHeartRadio app. In the next segment,
we will be talking more in fl And the reason

(12:10):
why I said more is because right now we're about
to get into the conversation. Last night's game, Thursday Night Football,
probably one of the biggest games of the year, had
a lot of bearing on what is going on in
the NFC, what's going on in the NFC West. And

(12:30):
it went to overtime last night and the Rams come
up short thirty eight to thirty seven to the Seattle Seahawks,
and the Seattle Seahawks came from behind to win that game,
to score twenty four points in the fourth quarter, and
the overtime combined on a two point conversion that was

(12:53):
a little bit controversial at the end, and a lot
of folks were not happy about the car.

Speaker 3 (13:00):
To go that way.

Speaker 6 (13:01):
Three receivers to the left, quick throw here and into
a lot of traffic and incomplete. Man, there was a
whole traffic jam on the left side.

Speaker 1 (13:11):
I have to reviewing and play the quarterback through a
backward path.

Speaker 3 (13:16):
It's just covered in the end zone by the offense
and in traffic conversion. That is.

Speaker 6 (13:25):
The craziest ever, craziest ever, crazy.

Speaker 1 (13:28):
Unbelievable, unbelievable that that is how that game would ends.

Speaker 3 (13:34):
For them to get that win crazy.

Speaker 2 (13:37):
I'm shaving my head because all I could think of
is this, dude, I know that's a yo.

Speaker 7 (13:43):
Man.

Speaker 2 (13:44):
That's crazy work. Man, that's crazy work. That was crazy.
Word Like, I've never seen that before. Have you ever
seen that before?

Speaker 1 (13:53):
No, well, I've seen a lateral that people didn't think
was a lateral, But I didn't think it would come
into a situation where the game is about to end
in such a crazy way to extend for them to
have another part of the game to be able to play.
It's unbelievable when you start to look at it's always Seattle.

(14:14):
It is always Seattle. It's that twelfth Man up there
that they got, and yeah, it's always in Seattle. You
right about that, because remember the Green Bay, the famous
Green Bay Hell, Mary Gannry.

Speaker 3 (14:25):
That's right, that's right.

Speaker 1 (14:26):
It's just unbelievable when you start to watch some of
these games and the bearing in which it had, you
know this was for them to If LA wins that
they win the division, they're locked in and now they're
they're not in first place because Seattle now is in
first place. But the team that has the destiny in

(14:48):
front of them is the forty nine ers. If the
forty nine Ers win their next three games, they win the.

Speaker 3 (14:54):
Division, right right.

Speaker 1 (14:56):
Think about who they are as a team in what
they have gone through all season, along with the injuries
and everything else that goes along with that. It is
such a crazy, crazy weekend. But again, you look at
what happens. This was one of the biggest matchups of
the weekend, and that is why that game had so

(15:18):
much to it.

Speaker 3 (15:19):
Last night started off a little bit slow.

Speaker 1 (15:22):
You weren't gonna think there was gonna be that many points,
and then boom, here they are thirty eight to thirty
seven in an epic Thursday night matchup.

Speaker 4 (15:31):
They won that game hard.

Speaker 2 (15:33):
Seattle have won that game, and I was happy, excuse
me that they won the game.

Speaker 4 (15:41):
But I still think the Rams are better team.

Speaker 2 (15:44):
Just like I said last week at the beginning of
the week, I think the Rams are better they if
they had Devonte Adams. DeVante Adams, he will he will
change a one point loss to at least seven to
eight point win.

Speaker 4 (16:02):
So I still think them to be the better team.

Speaker 1 (16:05):
Well, that's funny that you say that, because you look
at Seattle and how they continue to find ways to
win that's their fifth straight win. They're five and zero
in their last five. The Rams are now three and
two in their last five. But the forty nine Ers
are the team that control their own destiny. If they

(16:27):
win out, they win the division and we'll have home
field advantage throughout the playoffs, especially when you look across
the NFL, and you, I mean across the NFC. You
look at what Philadelphia is about to do. They're about
to play the Commanders Chicago big matchup tomorrow. As a
matter of fact, we got NFL action tomorrow as the

(16:50):
Bears and the Packers will go at each other tomorrow.
It's a no the who do I have playing that game?

Speaker 3 (17:00):
The Packers.

Speaker 1 (17:00):
Yeah, Bears and Packers are tomorrow night, seven to twenty.
You got the Eagles in the Washington Commanders tomorrow at
four o'clock. But again, the Niners control their destiny in
that division. Look at what Matthew Stafford was able to
do last night, going for four hundred and fifty seven yards,

(17:21):
and they had their running game going. They ran the
ball thirty nine times. They look decent. But you're right,
without having pookin the I mean pooking the cool, without
having Davonte Adams. You had to have some other guys
step up. We got Jordan Whittington out there. He had
a big catch for nineteen yards. And on the defensive side,

(17:43):
can we say enough good things about Byron Murphy and
what he's been able to do for the Seattle defense.

Speaker 2 (17:52):
Byron Murphy is worth his way and go. I mean always,
we always knew. We saw him play at Texas and
he wasn't the only one that played for Texas that
was showing out. On the other side of the defensive line,
you had a veteran uh pointing Ford who was able
to uh handle his business as well. You want to

(18:14):
notice something harder to regularly. Just to make a point,
both of those guys are six feet tall. They're not
the biggest humans. They just know how to play football.
They're long at the point of attack. And Matta Murphy,
you see him handling those offensive linemen. I mean like

(18:35):
he is putting people in their place, like it's about
being more more dominant than the guy in front of you.

Speaker 4 (18:43):
And Byron Murphy did that last night.

Speaker 1 (18:45):
So here, here's the funny thing about it is you're
being generous when you said they're both six foot.

Speaker 4 (18:52):
Well, we know we love poonas five to eleven.

Speaker 3 (18:56):
He is uh.

Speaker 1 (18:57):
He is putting in major, major work and has always
been able to do that. So you're right, But I'm
with you. The only thing I'm mad about last night
is if the Rams win, that they win the division
and I can cash a ticket that I had out
there because they were my NFC West. They were my

(19:19):
NFC West champion at the beginning.

Speaker 3 (19:22):
Of the season.

Speaker 1 (19:23):
But if you would man, but if you would have
told me that that Matthew Stafford would be the MVP
of the league, I wouldn't have put money on that one.

Speaker 3 (19:31):
But he continues to look well.

Speaker 1 (19:33):
And you got to give it to Sam Donald, Sam Darnald,
who will always see ghosts and will never be able
to live that down. He came back after his bad
performance early in the game to get ready to go
in the second half and got his team in position
to win that ballgame.

Speaker 2 (19:50):
And for a moment it looked like you heard the
announcers say, well, every quarterback has their kryptonite. Yep, they
said that in game they put a fourth in them.
There's all they've done. They down thirty to fourteen.

Speaker 4 (20:05):
Messed.

Speaker 2 (20:07):
Sam Donald looks like he's seeing ghosts, he's not making plays.
What happened Hard late in the game, he stepped up
and he delivered for his team. And I think that
he might have vanquished the demons because he looked like
the quarterback that was killing it at Minnesota last year.

Speaker 3 (20:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (20:32):
Yeah, he looked like that guy that has been very
locked in when it comes to getting his team put
in the right position. But you know, you looked at
Jackson Smith and jigb But we talked about him the
other day about how he may be the best wide
receiver in the game right now. He started off slow,
but then he got hot and they started finding him

(20:54):
and he finished with ninety six yards in a touchdown.

Speaker 3 (20:57):
And it's just some of those things.

Speaker 1 (20:59):
And Kenneth Walker, my season is over in fantasy football.
And then he decides, oh, you know what, I'm a
bust for one hundred for the first time all year long,
and tons down.

Speaker 4 (21:10):
Listen. I had him to listen. How many times in
fantasy football?

Speaker 2 (21:15):
Hard?

Speaker 4 (21:16):
Did he give you nine points?

Speaker 3 (21:19):
Yeah? I was nine.

Speaker 2 (21:21):
I drafted him hard. I drafted him with my third
pick on my team.

Speaker 3 (21:30):
He was setting it up just for y'all.

Speaker 2 (21:32):
He's giving me Jon numbers.

Speaker 3 (21:35):
Oh, here we go, Here we go.

Speaker 4 (21:38):
What did I say?

Speaker 1 (21:40):
Y'all still got good numbers man? For no reason at all.
Don't do that to bjon Man this season is you know,
he's still Jean. He's gonna be ready this weekend. I
ain't worried about you. Coming up next, We're gonna continue
these conversations more NFL action, and we get to hear
about Quinn Yours getting his first NFL start, and we'll

(22:01):
hear from some of his teammates right here on the
Morning Kickoff on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone
and always free on the iHeart Radio App. Welcome back
to a feel good Friday edition of the Morning Kickoff
right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone
and always free on the iHeart Radio App. I want

(22:23):
to get into this conversation because the news came out
of Miami that one to a tag of a law
who we talked about yesterday and his financial obligation to
the team. How much money, what, where, when and how?
And all of a sudden they made the move from
not only not having Zach Wilson as the starter, they

(22:47):
made the move straight to.

Speaker 3 (22:50):
One Quinn Yours.

Speaker 1 (22:52):
And Mark, we didn't get a chance to have your
thoughts on that, But what was when you first heard
that Quinn was going to be the starting quarterback?

Speaker 3 (23:01):
What went through your mind?

Speaker 2 (23:04):
I thought that now is the time to figure out
what you got in the cupboard. If you're not going
to use it, then go ahead and get rid of it. Uh,
they're gonna try out these guys. Now there's not just Quinn,
but there are several other guys that they talked about.
Miami haven't getting planned time because they want to see

(23:24):
how they react in game situations against NFL talent.

Speaker 4 (23:30):
So this is a this is a dress rehearsal.

Speaker 3 (23:34):
Well, the one thing that.

Speaker 1 (23:36):
I'm worried about is not just the thought of Quinn,
but it was more about the the quarterback position, because
the quarterback position is you could try out whoever you
want at other positions, but the quarterback position is something
that your team needs, and you still have to have

(23:57):
guys that believe that you're trying to win on the
team as well. You're just throwing people out there because
you want to see what's in the cover. I want
to win too, I want to make sure that we're
trying to win, so.

Speaker 3 (24:09):
What you got.

Speaker 4 (24:10):
Well, these guys everybody want to win hard.

Speaker 2 (24:13):
I mean, nobody goes well with the intent on you know,
or we'll just go out of here just to try
guys out.

Speaker 4 (24:18):
They want to win the game.

Speaker 2 (24:20):
But they You got to look at the biggest factor
in this is you have two attack of a lower
who has is very injury prone and has had some problems.
If you're gonna move him and you know that, Man,
I don't want to get this guy hurt in the
last three four weeks.

Speaker 4 (24:38):
The last thing I need to do is have him
out there get hurt.

Speaker 2 (24:41):
It's gonna devalue what little bit of cashet he may
have left. So they they they they're wrapping him in
bubble wrap and they already got the box that they're
gonna ship his butt off and set up because they
don't they don't want him to be injured.

Speaker 1 (24:57):
Right, Yeah, it's gonna be. It's something to paying attention to.
But being bitch is something that Quinn yours had a
little bit of experience with and it was a time
where he had to adjust and he spoke on the
fact of that happening to him and how he relates
to what to is going through.

Speaker 4 (25:17):
Yeah, no doubt.

Speaker 3 (25:18):
I mean in two his shoes. It's tough.

Speaker 7 (25:20):
You know, last year I was, I was benched in
the middle of a game last year. So I mean,
I know, I know how he feels, and it's it's
a bad feeling.

Speaker 3 (25:29):
But he's been. I mean, this morning we figured.

Speaker 7 (25:31):
Out and even even within these hours, he's helped me
a ton, you know, obviously, because the guys are used
to him being in there, so I have to do
some minute things that some of his mannerisms in the
cadence and and how he shifts people and and whatnot,
and you know who who shifts on them on themselves sometimes,
But I mean he's been, he's been really helpful and

(25:54):
in a tough situation, and I know, a frustrating, frustrating
situation that he's in.

Speaker 1 (26:01):
Very very mature answer from one Quinn yours and why
I say that's mature. Devin a Chain, the top running
back on that team, also talked about Quinn's maturity and
he may be a rookie, but he acts like a vet,
you know him in his help Like.

Speaker 8 (26:19):
You said, we don't yet rookie, but when he's out there,
he actus if he was you know, a bit, and
that's how you want, you know, your rookie to act.

Speaker 3 (26:26):
So it been out there.

Speaker 8 (26:28):
It's not like, oh we look at him at the rookie.
We're looking at him as a QB. One ask what
he is so you know, I mean you could just
tell like the cook that we have out there, like
you know, you know, any of the probably be nervous,
especially when you're playing the QB spot.

Speaker 3 (26:41):
But I mean, he don't.

Speaker 4 (26:42):
Show none that.

Speaker 3 (26:44):
Understood understood there.

Speaker 1 (26:46):
He is Quinn Yours gonna get his opportunity to be
the starting quarterback for the University up University for the
Miami Dolphins from the University of Texas, and I can't wait.
But the interesting part about it is he's gonna be
playing against the guy in Joe Burrow, who a lot

(27:07):
of folks are trying to figure out what's his future
going to look like. And if Joe Burrow decides that
he wants to leave Cincinnati and they find a way
to get a trade for him, what team would you
want to see Joe Burrow on all with his talent
but also your team's talent.

Speaker 2 (27:29):
You know what, I think a team like Pitchburg would
be great. We know Aaron Rodgers is not gonna be there.
They're gonna have plenty of money to spend, and you're
gonna have to give up a lot of resources as
far as draft capital in the future. But I think

(27:49):
that a team that's got a good defense is where
he needs to go. He doesn't need to go to
a team with all the flashy pieces. They've done that before,
they brought him all a flashy pieces with Chase and Higgins.
I think he needs to go to a really strong
defensive team that is already established and all they need

(28:13):
is a quarterback. Fitsburg is one of those teams you
can pick the other ones. There are other teams out there.

Speaker 1 (28:22):
One that would Minnesota be a place you got Justin Jefferson,
one of his former teammates at LSU. He's a guy
that's going to be there for a while. Their defenses,
it can be better, but their offense is probably the
thing that is worse for them. Would you look at
him as a New Orleans Saint now going back to

(28:43):
the boot, being able to go and be in that area.
Would you make a move for him and try to
add another piece with him. I'm just looking at teams
that definitely need quarterbacks. Tyler Schuck has done well for
New Orleans. I mean, the numbers don't tell you that,
but overall, if you go back and watch some of
the games that he's played in and seen some of

(29:04):
the things around him that he was able to do,
that might be a good spot for him. And Arizona
is just completely out of there. I think they're gonna
get rid of Kyler Murray, as crazy as that sound.
New York Jets is another spot that you don't know if.

Speaker 2 (29:21):
And they have a lot of assets right when you
talk about who has the most assets, the Jets have
enough draft picks to build an old team, right, and
you know, like if you want an established guy, hey,
that's a good option too. But he also they have
a good defense. I'm just saying send him. He's got

(29:44):
to go somewhere with a good defense.

Speaker 3 (29:48):
Line. He needs a good offensive line.

Speaker 1 (29:50):
He's probably one of the most sacked players since David
Carr in the NFL at the quarterback position, since he's
been in the league, and he still got team to
the Super Bowl. So yeah, as much as you want
to be around a good defense, he's had those before.
He just hadn't had offensive line that has been built
around to protect him. They've been waiting for him to

(30:12):
just do his magic instead of protecting their franchise quarterback.
Coming up next, we're gonna talk Texas basketball.

Speaker 3 (30:20):
We got a chance to talk.

Speaker 1 (30:21):
To one of the transfers that has a lot of
experience and he talks about iron sharpening iron right here
on the Morning Kickoff on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred
The Zone and always free.

Speaker 3 (30:33):
On that iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (30:35):
Welcome back to the Morning Kickoff on sports Radio AM
thirteen hundred The Zone and always free on the iHeartRadio app.
We got a chance yesterday Mark to talk to Camden Heidi,
the transfer from Purdue who has two years of eligibility
left and decided that he wanted to be Texas Longhorn.

(30:58):
So yesterday the questions that was asked of him in
front of the reporters was coach, let's be honest. When
we listen to coach Miller, he is very direct, he
is blunt and he tells it like it is. There's
no sugarcoating anything that he is talking to you about
about the team, and it seems to be that that

(31:22):
is who cam Heide. He takes his lead from because
he too was very open, very honest. He was very
critical of himself and the team in certain instances.

Speaker 3 (31:34):
But as anything.

Speaker 1 (31:35):
Else, you want to know how iron is sharpening iron,
and how are you guys getting better and who brings
the best out of you?

Speaker 4 (31:43):
Yeah, I would say Daln Swayne for sure.

Speaker 9 (31:46):
I mean he's one of the tougher guys that I've
ever had to guard, you know, just his ability to
get downhill, and he's strong, he's a bigger wing. But
I think, you know, like you said, the competitives starts
from Coach Miller. It's every single day. You know, even
on the off days. You know, I can still feel
the competitiveness coming from the practice facilities, from from you know,

(32:08):
wherever he's at. You know, it's a competitive environment all
the time.

Speaker 4 (32:11):
In the weight room, on.

Speaker 9 (32:12):
The practice court, you know, before and after games, you know,
a shoot around, it's all the time. So you know,
that's something that I really credit to Coach Meller because
he's spread that throughout the team, and I think that's
something that we're continuing to get better at, is having
a better competitive mindset each and every day.

Speaker 1 (32:27):
Kim Heide is shooting sixty percent from the field mark,
but he's shooting fifty four point eight percent from three
point land. And one of the things that he pointed
out about the team and himself when they were watching
the film, a lot of people keep reverting back to
that Virginia game where they were absolutely dominated. It was
eighty eight to sixty nine. They weren't getting any of

(32:50):
the loose balls that game. It just seemed like every
shot that Virginia took was uncontested. And he said he
lives for that video because it brings out the best
of them when they realize how ineffective they were on
distracting what Virginia was trying to do.

Speaker 3 (33:12):
Well.

Speaker 2 (33:13):
I'm I'm a strong proponent of aggressive basketball and coach
Miller his style is very aggressive, especially on the offensive side.
I would really like to see Honey start to shoot
the ball. Moore draw more plays for him. His statistics
proved that he can make the shots, So give the

(33:35):
guy more shots, and if he respects Swain, then make
a two man game like start doing stuff that is
conducive to them having more success with the guys. And
you know, I criticized Pope, but I see Pope as
being a valuable piece in just a matter of giving

(33:58):
people roles like are you the facilitateor are you to score?
And it changes, It should change on who you play.

Speaker 4 (34:09):
Some nights you need to tell Pope, hey, you got
a guy in front of you, you got the green light.

Speaker 2 (34:15):
And then there's some nights as hey, Swain as a
guy that we want to try to expose him. Let's
get him the ball in the best situation we can
get him to get downhill. Like so, like everybody has
to play together. I think that coach Miller is gonna
figure this out. And I said ten games, it may
be less than that, and we're right there at that point.

Speaker 1 (34:36):
Yeah, Texas has done some things differently when you start
to look at it, and Pope has been asked to
shoot the.

Speaker 3 (34:43):
Ball quite a bit.

Speaker 1 (34:44):
And so when you start to look at the scores,
he scored at every every level that he's played. He
scored here last year, he scored when he was at
his previous college.

Speaker 3 (34:53):
So he's he's gonna score the basketball.

Speaker 1 (34:56):
And that's kind of his hismo is he's a shooter.
But to your point, when you bring some other guys
in and understanding what their roles are.

Speaker 3 (35:05):
Each game, and those.

Speaker 1 (35:07):
Are the types of things that I continue to look
at as well. Those guys have been working their behinds off.
You can see them start to get a little bit
better every single time, and now they put themselves in
a position of success, and we're getting closer and closer
to that moment where Texas will be into the conference
play and that's what the third of January, they play

(35:31):
Mississippi State at home to kick off the SEC conference schedule.
But they have one more game on Monday against Maryland
Eastern Shore. That game will tip off at seven o'clock.
You can hear all of that right here on sports
Radio AM thirteen hundred, the Zone and always free on
the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 3 (35:51):
But that'll be.

Speaker 1 (35:51):
Their final test, and then they'll be on Christmas break,
then they'll come back, and then they'll get ready to
open up the SEC schedule against Mississippi State.

Speaker 3 (36:02):
So that's the other part of this too.

Speaker 1 (36:04):
You're putting in all this work and you're getting yourself prepared,
but then you got the Christmas break, the fall semester
is over, and you get a few days off to
relax and get your body right, but then you got
to get right back to it and get after it.

Speaker 2 (36:19):
Well, you know that in sports, you never really truly
get a break. Everybody else gets a break. But you
gotta be your re in in practice. You gotta go
and be accounted for at recovery. You gotta do all
of the things. If you don't come hard, if you
don't show up to physical therapy and you got like

(36:39):
a sore ankle, you're gonna you can't leave.

Speaker 4 (36:44):
Yeah, yeah, you can't campus. They got they're gonna be
on the yard.

Speaker 1 (36:48):
They're letting them. They're letting them go home for a
little bit. Though, he's letting them go home for a
few days.

Speaker 3 (36:53):
He knows.

Speaker 1 (36:54):
We heard from coach Miller at the very beginning. He said, well,
people need to rest. They need to rest, and they
need to get off their feet because when this he
said that this is the only time of the year.
Basketball is the only sport that goes into both semesters.
Like these guys are playing in both semesters. So you're
at the end, You get worked on, you get all

(37:14):
that stuff in the classroom. You gotta lock in, and
then when you come back from Christmas break, you're back
on campus, you're working out again, and you got to
go back to class hard.

Speaker 2 (37:25):
I can hear my coaches now from back then. You
got three days, yeah yeah, and I need you back
here doing what you need to do to play. If
you're not here and there's other people here and they're
going to be doing what they're supposed to do, don't
think you're gonna come in and just play.

Speaker 3 (37:43):
Yeah, So I suggest.

Speaker 2 (37:44):
That they get your three days and then while everybody
else is still at home, in five days, you're there
getting it in.

Speaker 3 (37:53):
Yep, yep, yep.

Speaker 1 (37:55):
It is a lot to be ready for and a
lot to be thankful for. And Cam Heidi is one
of those guys that I'm glad he's on this team
because he was very open and honest about what he sees,
what he feels, and how he holds himself accountable. In
that way, he can hold his teammates accountable as well.

(38:16):
Our number one is in the books, our number two
is just around the corner. And in our number two,
it's time, folks. It's time for college football playoffs, and
we're about to get into it right here on the
morning kickoff on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred to Zone
and always free on that iHeartRadio app. Welcome back to

(38:38):
our number two of the morning Kickoff right here on
sports Radio AM thirteen hundred to Zone and always free
in the iHeartRadio app and our number one. We talked
about the Rams falling to the Seahawks in overtime and
what was the kickoff to a great NFL weekend because
there's a lot on the line, but the Rams falls

(39:00):
short to the Seahawks. We also talked about Quinn Yours
and his ability to be the starting quarterback for the
Miami Dolphins. We also had Texas basketball talk with Cam
Heidi and his thought about iron sharpening iron. Both the
major news on the forty Acres Texas make major moves
and relieve p K Pete Kwikowski.

Speaker 3 (39:22):
And Duayne a.

Speaker 1 (39:24):
Keena of their duties and bring back one coach Boom
And before we get into the college football playoffs, my
man Mark Henry and I we saw a title of
an article that was written by the one and only
Kirk Bowles and he said, if the Texas offense offensive
line was the trouble of this year, why are you

(39:45):
changing your defensive coordinator? And then Mark said, that's a
great question, and I'm curious to that as well. But
with that being said, more and more. You look at
what happened and the fact that what I was talking
about earlier about the being off on thirty three and
being ten yards off the ball and not making it

(40:06):
tough for them to catch a hitch and fall forward,
and the things that were happening, the prevent part of it,
it kind of reared its ugly head in certain games.

Speaker 4 (40:18):
Well, I believe this is hard.

Speaker 2 (40:20):
That you can't fix every problem at once, and I
think that the aggressiveness of the defense and giving up
some easy gift layups is over with. They wanted to
fix that first. The offensive line issue is going to

(40:42):
be fixing the portal. You really can't do nothing until
January second, So it's a timing thing. They went with
what is the most pressing and then the thing that's
the time will fix which January second. We'll hear all
we need to hear. I got a list right now,

(41:04):
and I think that I'm gonna wait until Monday before
I start talking about the potentials that Texas should go
after and what they already have. Hopefully God willing and
the creek don't rise. Goolesby stays and you can upgrade
that offensive guard and we'll we'll talk about all those

(41:24):
guys and the options that are in the portal. Right now,
there's about seven guys that are in the portal. Texas
needs at least two of them, and they're both guards
and one is a center. But I think that they're
good with center. I think that if you get two
dominant guards and you keep arch Manning standing upright, you

(41:50):
got the season can be really explosive for Texas.

Speaker 3 (41:54):
Oh, that's interested.

Speaker 1 (41:55):
I can't wait to hear your your take on the
offensive line when we get to that point. So that'll
be fun to talk about. But I want to talk
college football playoffs because they are here.

Speaker 3 (42:06):
We've been waiting for it.

Speaker 1 (42:07):
No, I know our team is not involved in it,
but there are college football playoff games this weekend and
they all start tonight at Oklahoma. The Tech Oklahoma Sooners
will be hosting the the Alabama Crimson Tide. That game
kicks off at seven o'clock. You can watch it all

(42:28):
on AB, ABC or ESPN. Tomorrow morning, you've got Texas
A and M hosting the Miami Dolphins. That game kicks
off at eleven. That too will be on ESPN. And
then you got the two games that A lot of
people are wondering, how are these games on old? Miss
hosting Tulane Tulane. I'm meant to wear my Twuo Lane

(42:51):
shirt today. O gunnet Uh. They will be on T
n T. That game kicks off at two thirty, and
then James Madison and Oregon they will off at six
point thirty on T and T.

Speaker 2 (43:04):
Mark as you just see, I'm I'm in New York
working and I'll be coming back to Texas this afternoon.
But Miss Henry will be in Norman, Oklahoma at that
Oklahoma Alabama game and I'll be getting direct sideline reporting,

(43:25):
well not sideline, but she's you know, she'll be in
the first few rows up there with the families being
that Jacob is playing.

Speaker 3 (43:34):
Trust me sidelines.

Speaker 4 (43:38):
They don't want it on the sideline.

Speaker 1 (43:42):
Well, you know, you look at this game, and I
know you got to take your Homer eyes and goggles
off for your son's team. But what will it take
for Oklahoma to win this game tonight?

Speaker 2 (43:55):
They're gonna have to play consistent ball, especially on third downs.
They got to score. Phil Goes is not gonna get
it done. You know we always say that about the Cowboys.
Why they drive down and they have to kick field goals. Oklahoma,
John Matteers can't have the game that he had against LSA.

(44:16):
He's got to go out there and he's got to
put the ball in his oone. And if you don't
think you can do it with a thorough doing with
your legs.

Speaker 3 (44:24):
Well we'll see what happens with that.

Speaker 1 (44:26):
But I look at Alabama and I was listening to
forgot who I was listening to, but they were talking
about the Kaitlin de bordeal kind of like what I
was saying, is he on the hot seat? Is he
looking over his shoulder the entire time now that he's
at Alabama? Does this mean if he wins that he

(44:46):
is the hot seat? Kind of cools off and I
keep it sounds crazy to call it in the hot
seat because it's his second year, he's in the college
football playoffs. They did lose three games, but that was
because they played for an SEC championship, and if they
didn't play for the SEC championship with that'd been something
that people were mad at them about. You know, Coach

(45:07):
Sark always talks about those champagne problems, right, That's exactly
what Alabama has had throughout their career, I mean out
there time because they went from Nick Saban and all
the games and championships and travel that they were doing
because it became second nature, and they get a little

(45:27):
bit spoiled in those particular moments. But they're saying, we're
spending all these money on these players. Let's get into
the playoffs where now you're in there. Does he have
to win to not have a one and done type
of mindset of being in the playoffs And they lose
that first game, now people are back on its head again.
This is a different Oklahoma team, Let's be honest about that.

Speaker 2 (45:50):
Well, it's a different Oklahoma team than they faced early
in the season, but it's also a different Alabama team.

Speaker 4 (45:58):
If you Alabama is one.

Speaker 2 (46:01):
Of their best running backs was not playing in that
game when they played Oklahoma early in this season, and
then they have an outstanding he'll be drafted in the
top fifteen picks. Linebacker that was injured in that game
and played just a I think you only play the quarter,
So it'll be a different game. If these guys are

(46:23):
back and healthy and they run into that bus off,
then Oklahoma's going to have to do more. They have
an explosive defense, probably the best defense in the playoff
right now, that defense is going to have to show.

Speaker 1 (46:39):
Up, definitely gonna have to show up. I do want
to talk about this game because that Texas A and
m Miami game is one that a lot of folks
believe that Texas A and m is going to be
able to pull this off.

Speaker 3 (46:52):
But a lot of.

Speaker 1 (46:53):
Folks also look at what Miami is and a team
that some felt like shouldn't have been in the playoffs.
They didn't play for the ACC Championship, but now they're
in the college football playoffs. They're on the road. And
Eric Henry was talking about this yesterday as he was
filling in for you. He said, I don't believe there'll
be a lot of people from Miami leaving that area

(47:16):
to come up to College Station to kick it on.

Speaker 3 (47:22):
For this playoff game.

Speaker 1 (47:23):
So it'll be one hundred thousand strong all for the aggis.

Speaker 4 (47:28):
Yeah, that's that's not a good environment.

Speaker 2 (47:30):
You won't if you're a Miami fan because going into
that stadium, regardless of you have a good team, when
you go to Kyle Field, you better have a good
support system because all you're gonna see is that wave
and oce a fan rocking and they hypnotize you man
like it. It's harder to play there. I'm so glad

(47:54):
that Texas got to play at A and M at
home this year.

Speaker 3 (47:58):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (47:59):
Well they got to go there next year and that
is something that Texas is looking forward to because once
again it will be a game that will probably decide
who's going to the college football playoffs, who's hosting, and
who will be able to play for an SEC championship.
The other games, obviously, Old Miss is dealing with their
own turmoil, the coaching changes. Everybody's trying to figure out

(48:22):
who's going to be in the transfer portal, how much
eligibility are guys getting. But they have to go out
and win this game against a two lane team that
also is in transition. Their coach is back coaching them
throughout the playoffs, but then he's gonna leave and go
take a new coaching job as well. So it's a
lot going on in these college football playoffs.

Speaker 2 (48:44):
Yeah, there's a lot going on, and I'm praying that
Texas does what they need to do to be the
best for next year. But in this playoff, I want
to know from you, who do you think and how
this bracket is gonna go.

Speaker 3 (49:04):
Who do I think out of these teams that we
just talked about.

Speaker 1 (49:07):
Yeah, I'm taking the Sooners, I'm taking the Aggie's obviously,
Ole Miss and Oregon. I'm pretty much going chalk. Well,
the Sooners, I'm pretty much going chalk for this first
round of the playoffs. And then after that it gets
a little bit more interesting because the winner of Miami
and Texas A and M will go and take on

(49:29):
Ohio State. The winner of James Madison and Oregon will
end up playing Texas Tech. The winner of Alabama Oklahoma
will play number one Indiana, and the Tulane and Ole
Miss winner will take on Georgia. But the part that
is really interesting is nobody's talking about Texas Tech, and

(49:49):
that might be the team that has the last laugh
at the end of the season. But we'll continue those
conversations and so much more, and we'll ask our next
guest and Parker if she thinks that Texas A and
M or Texas Tech will have a chance to play.

Speaker 3 (50:05):
For a national championship.

Speaker 1 (50:07):
Right here on the morning kickoff on sports Radio AM
thirteen hundred to Zone and always free on that iHeart
radio app. It's a feel good football Friday edition of
the Morning Kickoff right here on sports Radio AM thirteen
hundred the Zone and always free on the iHeartRadio app.
And we always get a chance to talk to our
girl and Parker Coleman of Caview. And there's a lot

(50:32):
that is happening on the forty Acres and continues to
happen on the forty acres. But my question to you,
when the news came out yesterday that PK was being
relieved of his duties, did it send shockwaves through the
newsroom over at Kview as well?

Speaker 10 (50:52):
Shockwaves?

Speaker 11 (50:52):
I don't even think that's the right way to put it,
Like I just.

Speaker 10 (50:57):
Couldn't even believe it. I think I.

Speaker 11 (51:00):
Saw it a little bit afterwards on tour. I say
a little bit afterwards. By the time I saw it,
a couple of people had reported it, which is good
because if I just read the email that was sent
to us, I would have been like, Oh, somebody's pulling
our leg, Like I don't believe this. Yeah, shock waves
is a good way to put it. I don't think

(51:20):
anybody saw that coming whatsoever. But we're going to talk
to Stark this morning, so that is gonna be good.
We're gonna get a little more clarity, get some answers.
But really, I just feel like this is a move
that kind of shows like Sark is willing to do
whatever it takes to win next year, and it's not
the next year. I mean, gosh, like you if you

(51:42):
were thinking about this, I'm surprised that it didn't happen
earlier or after the bowl game. But like, you want
to win next year, you also want to win the
bowl game because you fired your DC before the bowl game.
So like that clearly shows you're ready to move on
and you're ready to make some big moves in orders.

Speaker 2 (52:02):
Miss mss Ann Parker Coleman, I gotta give you this
that looks like a Vandergriff hat.

Speaker 10 (52:10):
It does look like a Vandergriff.

Speaker 11 (52:11):
It is a very sun dried, very old University of
Virginia hat that has been sitting in my car and
it probably shouldn't be sitting on my head because it
looks so old and dusty. But that's just what we
pulled out of the closet this morning. But hey, hats
off to Vandergriff for a good season.

Speaker 4 (52:29):
I'm bum the great season.

Speaker 2 (52:32):
You know, I also I wanted to say congratulations on
kview being the best channel in Austin, like congratulations.

Speaker 10 (52:43):
Thank you.

Speaker 11 (52:44):
I would like to think that our sports team has
something to do with this, but unofficial now official, always
always been best in my books.

Speaker 3 (52:52):
No doubt, no doubt.

Speaker 1 (52:54):
As always we appreciate that because you guys.

Speaker 3 (52:56):
Do a great job.

Speaker 1 (52:57):
And as you talked about that, news world was in shock,
just like everybody else. But now the move is being made,
we're gonna, like you said, we're gonna hear from coach
Sark today. You can listen to his press conference right
here on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred to zone starting
at eleven o'clock with myself and Cam Parker, and of

(53:17):
course then Coach Sark will take the microphone at eleven fifteen.
But to your point, this is an interesting time for
the move because Texas is beginning Bowl preps. They're working out,
they're doing all the things they need to do for that.
But now, what do you do when you bring in
a brand new defensive coordinator. How's this gonna work in
the middle of this Bowl game.

Speaker 11 (53:40):
Yeah, again, it's just such a weird time to do it.

Speaker 10 (53:45):
And you know what, the thing you got to give
Texas their credit.

Speaker 11 (53:48):
They never get rid of somebody without having a succession plan.

Speaker 10 (53:53):
Like they were not going to you know, grid of PK.

Speaker 11 (53:57):
Without saying new hire that they felt really excited about.
And if it's an amazing new higher that you feel
really excited about, well it's probably hopefully going to be
one that you're so excited about that you want to
get him in before, you know, as soon as possible,
and that's clearly what they're doing. I just feel like
he's just more aggressive, and I think looking at p K,

(54:22):
like I think this past year we were thinking that
maybe bringing in Joenna Pena would help make I don't
know the defense little more cohesive, a little bit more aggressive.

Speaker 10 (54:32):
That clearly didn't happen. So you know, put all the
chips in the middle.

Speaker 11 (54:37):
Arch Manning is back next year, Like, if there's a
time to win, it is next year. And I feel
like Sark in the entire coaching so feels that heat
and that's why they're able to make these crazy, somewhat
desperate moves.

Speaker 1 (54:52):
Well I got a chance to bring in you know,
for the defense, you can still use Johnny Nansen because
he's still here and he knows the calls and what
they expect tations are. If you're not going to implement,
Will must champ in all the way. But you go
to the website. Will musshep is already up on the website.
He's already They've already made.

Speaker 10 (55:12):
Department.

Speaker 3 (55:13):
Yeah it is. It is all the way live.

Speaker 1 (55:16):
But I want to talk basketball because yesterday you were
part of the press availability for Camden Heidi. Very impressive
young man, very direct about his intentions and what he
sees from this basketball team. When you were listening yesterday,
what were one of your biggest takeaways from what he

(55:37):
had to say about this team, where they are and
where they're headed.

Speaker 11 (55:40):
Yeah, I like that you said he was direct. Honestly,
it's a lot like coach Miller. That guy is a
direct as can be. You said it on the call yesterday.
He does not sugarcoat. And what I liked the most
that cam said was he kind of had the the
same approach. And we talked about the University of Virginia
game where let's just be honest, they looked, they looked

(56:03):
really bad.

Speaker 10 (56:03):
They did not look like a very good basketball team.

Speaker 11 (56:06):
And he echoed as much, and he said that that
was kind of a turning point in their season.

Speaker 10 (56:10):
Like, he didn't he didn't dance around the subject. He
said that they were.

Speaker 11 (56:14):
Soft and that it was a lack of effort, and
that since that game we've seen a lot of defensive
improvement improvements from them, And I just liked that he
was kind of owning up to the fact that it
had looked pretty and a lot of it was like
on toughness, right right.

Speaker 2 (56:35):
Mark, Well, I mean it's hard to avoid that when
we saw it with our own eyes. I mean like
there were guys that were unabated cutters. Nobody checked them,
nobody impeded their progress.

Speaker 4 (56:51):
They were open shots. When I say open shots, I.

Speaker 2 (56:54):
Mean often dribble gays stepping back three steps and you're
getting a wide open Sha, How does that happen? It
was just it was they didn't they didn't look focused,
they didn't look like they were engaged. I don't know
if something happened that there was there an argument or
fight of whatever the deal is. I hope they got

(57:14):
regified because you know, the long harmed fan base don't
deserve that effort.

Speaker 11 (57:19):
Yeah, I remember them saying that the same thing afterwards,
Like you know, it's a bad game if some of
the players get on the mic and apologize to the fans,
and the head coach is apologizing to the fans, and
you know, no matter what happened before the game, I mean,
that's what Cam echoed was. It wasn't anything schematically, That's
not why they were playing poor. It was a lack

(57:42):
of effort and a lack of focus. They looked out
of focus and just weak and soft. And I will
say that because that's what they have all self admittedly said.

Speaker 10 (57:55):
And again they're getting there.

Speaker 11 (57:57):
I think, you know, this is also maybe just new
age college basketball. It's really hard to get all of
these new players and a new coach and expect them
to be playing, you know, this amazing brand of basketball,
Like amazing brand of basketball a couple of weeks into
a season, when my god, they probably met each other

(58:18):
like a few months ago, Like they know them, know
each other's middle names, where they're from. I mean some
of them they don't speak the same languages. Like this
is a very interesting dynamic that we have with this
basketball team. A lot of international players and coach Miller,
I will say, I like him, but he is not

(58:40):
your typical like he's not he's not Vic Schaeffer, he's
not coach loss Like, he doesn't have this, he's not
very Texas in personality. He's Italian and so and so
I asked. I was like, gosh, like this is just
a very interesting team. Like what would I ask him? Like,
what do you what would you say? The personality of

(59:01):
this team is because it's different from every other Texas
team that we have, And he was like, you know what,
weird team that tries really hard and it hasn't really
always shown through, but we're hyper competitive and are just
looking to approve that to ourselves improve it to other
people too. So I think, you know, as they get
a little bit more time together, we're going to see

(59:22):
that that identity, that competitiveness and that effort piece a
little bit more as the as the season good fun.

Speaker 4 (59:27):
I never even looked at that. That's a good point
of view. And like the you got.

Speaker 2 (59:32):
German players, African players, Russian players, and coach like they
there's a lot of mixing that needs to get you know,
kind of amalbumized.

Speaker 11 (59:44):
Yeah, and you look at every other roster in Texas
and I would say, you know, baseball football, most of
those athletes majority are in state players, so it's it's
very different from anything that else that you know you'll
see on the fourty acres. But again it's it's so
in the early stages and this is just kind of

(01:00:05):
how it works it out with the way that their
transfer portal is. But I say that it'll get better
as they go on.

Speaker 10 (01:00:13):
Guys, you got one more game until it really ramps up.

Speaker 11 (01:00:17):
You have one more non conference game on the twenty second,
and then guess what SEC play starts and you gotta
be ready for that.

Speaker 10 (01:00:24):
So hopefully the break too will help them. I think
maybe just get home for a few days.

Speaker 11 (01:00:30):
Like they all get to do, and get a little
time away from basketball and then coming back that that'll
also help.

Speaker 1 (01:00:36):
Before we let you go, which team do you see
continuing on in the college football playoffs? Is it the
Texas A and M fighting Aggie's Or is it the
Texas Tech Red Raiders.

Speaker 10 (01:00:49):
Ooh, I'm gonna go I'm gonna go at.

Speaker 11 (01:00:56):
I've thought about this a lot, but I haven't really
thought about like Texas Tech or A and M.

Speaker 10 (01:01:01):
I think if I'm gonna give like my end all
be all. I think Indian is gonna win it.

Speaker 11 (01:01:05):
I think it could be Indiana, Ohio state in the Indigaan,
or maybe Georgia. But I mean, out of those two,
I think I do like. I like Texas Tech better. Okay,
if it wasn't for that Texas Texas A and M game,
I would have said Texas A and M, but they
just yeah, I'll go Texas Tech.

Speaker 10 (01:01:26):
They've shown no flaws and.

Speaker 1 (01:01:28):
Those people are getting their guns up because they're excited
that you picked.

Speaker 3 (01:01:31):
The Red Raiders.

Speaker 1 (01:01:32):
There she is and Parker Coleman of cave the number
one ranked, number one award winning sports show in Austin, Texas.
Thank you, ap, have a great, great weekend and enjoy
your vacation time.

Speaker 10 (01:01:48):
Thanks guys, see 'all appreciate you.

Speaker 1 (01:01:50):
There she is and Parker Coleman of CAVU. Coming up next,
we've got the World's Strongest Man bringing you his World's
Strongest Tech right here on the morning kickoff on Sports
Radio A. I'm thirteen hundred to zone and always free
on the iHeart Radio Apple.

Speaker 3 (01:02:04):
You're to be dropped. That can only mean one thing.

Speaker 1 (01:02:06):
W W Hall of Famer and World's Strongest Man, Deeve
Mark Henry brings you his world's strongest take.

Speaker 3 (01:02:13):
Take it away, big fellow. All right, what's up? Man?

Speaker 4 (01:02:17):
You know what time it is?

Speaker 3 (01:02:18):
What time? Is it?

Speaker 2 (01:02:19):
Time for the world's strongest take by the world's strongest man.
My guess back then they didn't know.

Speaker 4 (01:02:32):
Now I'm hot. They all a man.

Speaker 2 (01:02:37):
Marcus said that you can't see me a little older
than giant Cena. But Mark, no, just because we can't
see you, that's what that's my fault.

Speaker 4 (01:02:48):
I mean, I got the camera on. They can't you
see me? Now?

Speaker 3 (01:02:55):
Go ahead, just keep going doing your thing.

Speaker 4 (01:02:57):
All right. Well, I don't know what it is. I
do know this.

Speaker 2 (01:03:05):
University of Texas has done a service to the team
by the change. And a lot of people may be like, well,
why are the timing why right now? And we talked
about that in the last segment. The defense was the
thing that you can handle right now. The offensive line

(01:03:26):
you can't handle on until the portal. So that's not
gonna be till the second of January. So we'll get
to that when we get to it. But right now,
when you bring in coach Muschamp, you bring in a
coach that is aggressive in nature.

Speaker 4 (01:03:47):
He comes across very not domineering. But it's a dictatorship
the way that he coaches. And hard and.

Speaker 2 (01:04:01):
I we both were under the same uh impression this
year that Texas was as good players as they had,
and as good as the defense was, and all the players,
the five star guys, why would they not be more
aggressive in style and and and and in coverage, play

(01:04:22):
five yards off the ball, play bump and run off
the ball.

Speaker 4 (01:04:26):
And they wouldn't do it.

Speaker 3 (01:04:29):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:04:29):
That was the the straw that broke the camel's back.
And Emanuel Acho, who formed a longhorn. Uh, you know,
had a real good saying Mark as you got that sound, Yo,
I'm about to cry in public.

Speaker 12 (01:04:51):
Will must champ back in Texas. This is a game changer.

Speaker 13 (01:04:55):
Will must Champon is the greatest teacher of defensive football
I had been around. I had Will Mus's champ my
freshman sophomore in junior year in Texas, I think we
have the number three overall defense, the number five overall defense,
like the number three overall defense. It was US, it
was Bama, it was Florida. Will must champ understands defensive football,
I would suggest, greater than any mind in the collegiate game.

(01:05:18):
Remember must Champ was the co defensive coordinator for those
back to back Georgia defensive teams that win national championships
over the last four or five years. Will must Champ
coaches with a tenacity and an attention to detail that
you do not find. It is an uncommon passion.

Speaker 12 (01:05:35):
For the game of football, Texas. This isn't good news.

Speaker 13 (01:05:38):
This might be the greatest news in the last three
four years. Signing Will must Champions better than any recruit
because Will must CHAMPI can turn a three star recruit
high into an NFL draft pick. Will must Champ can
turn a five star recruit into a top ten pick.

Speaker 12 (01:05:56):
But Will must Champ.

Speaker 3 (01:05:58):
I ain't none like him.

Speaker 12 (01:05:59):
Brat, he's crazy. He's a crazy man, But.

Speaker 3 (01:06:03):
I ain't not like him.

Speaker 12 (01:06:04):
Brian, that's my band and he needs to call me back.
Cham if you're watching this, I swear you better.

Speaker 2 (01:06:09):
Call me back. That is the intensity and the excitement
around players that have played for him, that understand that
they're gonna get put in situations where their talent is
gonna get to shine. Think about if Manny Muhammad had

(01:06:31):
a couple of moments where he was playing press coverage rather.

Speaker 4 (01:06:35):
Than being eleven yards from the line of scrimmage.

Speaker 2 (01:06:38):
Yards he would have had chances to prove that he
was who he was. And I think that that's the
kind of play that guys will gravitate to and want
to come to Texas. There's gonna be a guy that's
in the portal that plays corner that's gonna say, oh, shoot,

(01:07:00):
with that pass rush, I get to play five yards
off the ball from this guy. Oh yeah, I'm going
to Texas, and Texas is going to pull the trigger
on these people.

Speaker 4 (01:07:11):
And the toughness.

Speaker 2 (01:07:13):
We talked about the toughness of Texas hard probably about
five times this season. Wow, we just didn't come in
aggressive enough. Well, aggressive them has arrived.

Speaker 3 (01:07:26):
What say you. There's a lot to unpack right there.

Speaker 1 (01:07:32):
But I will say this, of course, Emanuel Accho is
going to say that about a guy that he played for.

Speaker 3 (01:07:38):
If you go and look at.

Speaker 1 (01:07:39):
Some of the comments from some of the players that
played for PK that are now in the NFL, they're
saying the exact same thing. They're saying that they got
a lot out of them from that. So I understand
the joy and the excitement of all the Texas people
that were here back in those Hey days. But those
heydays were long time time ago, those heydays. With that,

(01:08:02):
you look at what this defense was over the last
couple of years. As I said before, you got all
Americans on the defensive side of the ball. You have
guys that are going to the NFL that are playing.
So it wasn't all about p K. It might have
been some of the players not executing the calls, not
understanding what their responsibilities were supposed to be. It's easy

(01:08:23):
to put the onus on the coaching staff and certain things.

Speaker 3 (01:08:27):
I get it. I feel you be excited about it.
I'm not.

Speaker 2 (01:08:30):
If you notice hard he did say he's one of
the greatest teachers.

Speaker 4 (01:08:36):
Of the game.

Speaker 3 (01:08:38):
Yeah, yeah he did.

Speaker 1 (01:08:40):
But there's other coaches on that staff that need to
be elevated and teaching as well. As I talked about before,
Coach Sark You can you grew up under Saban and
you're gonna tell me he wasn't a micro manager. You're
gonna tell me he wasn't somebody that was on his
coaches all the time. You see him, but rat laying
Kiffen on the sideline. So there are some things that

(01:09:01):
have happened that need to be addressed, but it wasn't
all on the defensive side of the ball. Run game
was weak this year and there's some things that need
to be fixed.

Speaker 3 (01:09:10):
Well, we'll close out the show. Send you to.

Speaker 1 (01:09:12):
Dan Patrick, Jake Paul, and Anthony Joshua.

Speaker 3 (01:09:16):
When is this gonna stop? All right here on.

Speaker 1 (01:09:19):

all week long, and we ended it with our good
friend Ann Parker. Coleman of Cave CAVEU was voted this
past week as the top sports channel in Austin in
the inaugural Austin Sports Awards. I want to get into

(01:10:03):
this conversation because yes, we talk a lot about Texas football,
and make sure you tune in this afternoon as or
excuse me, this morning, starting at eleven o'clock, myself and
Cam Parker will be at the stadium for a news
press conference from coach Sart talking about the latest moves
that he has made, and of course he's going to

(01:10:24):
probably bring up the cheese at Bowl in what the
expectations are moving forward. But we are your home for
Texas Athletics, so make sure you keep it locked here
all day long. Also, tune in to The Craig Way
Show this afternoon with our guy Jake Herman filling in
for Craig Is. Craig is at Jerry World for the

(01:10:47):
high school football playoffs as the football season college, i
mean high school football season officially comes to an end today.

Speaker 3 (01:10:56):
This excuse me tomorrow night at Jerry.

Speaker 1 (01:11:00):
All Right, I'm gonna get into this because tonight there
is a boxing I don't even want to call it
a match at this point, and the reason why is
because Jake Paul once again has hijacked boxing. Now, with
that being said, he has done a great job with it.
He's a great promoter, he's got people wanting to watch

(01:11:24):
these types of fights. But he's fighting a guy in
Anthony Joshua who is an absolute monster. When you sit back,
and if you've ever watched any of Anthony Joshua's matches,
his boxing matches, you know that this dude will absolutely

(01:11:44):
hurt somebody, And for me, I'm curious to why in
the world is he taking this fight, because look at
who he is and what he's been able to do
in his career. He is twenty eight and four with
twenty five knockouts. He stands six foot six and is

(01:12:13):
an absolute monster when it comes to knocking people out.
His last fight though, was September of last year, twenty
twenty four, and he ended up losing by knockout in
the fifth round. Now he's thirty six years old, and

(01:12:33):
I'm just curious to the fact.

Speaker 3 (01:12:36):
Of why why does he feel it's.

Speaker 1 (01:12:39):
Important for him to take on a guy that is
a quote unquote a YouTube star, a person who always
seems to fight guys that he knows is going to win.
But yet they say it's not rigged. Is this guy

(01:13:01):
a true boxer? Is he someone that people look at
and take absolutely seriously? And the Paul brothers. I talked
to Mark about this before. He says that his brother
is one of the best athletes in wrestling. The way
he moves, the way he handles it, he's a professional.

(01:13:24):
But yet I look at these boxing Paul this boxing Paul,
and I am just curious to how this all is
going to play out. Marcus, as someone who has been
around this and understood what this is all about, how
do you feel when you hear about this type of
boxing match that will take place tonight on Netflix? Again,

(01:13:49):
it's crazy to me.

Speaker 14 (01:13:50):
Well, when it comes to I'm a huge, big boxing
fan I've been for the longest is it is irritating
that these gimmick fights are becoming the big fights. But
it's shows that promotion over everything. And that's what's been
killing boxing over the years, is it's done a bad
job of promoting itself. And I think what added to
the Paul brothers in general as in their promoting in

(01:14:14):
boxing is you remember when Mike Tyson fout Roy Jones,
who was on that card.

Speaker 1 (01:14:21):
Don't remember Paul was on that card. But that's what
I'm saying, don't remember. But here's the key some people
do remember. And what happens when it comes to the
Paul brothers is people do not like them. Even before
they was boxing, people did not like them.

Speaker 3 (01:14:37):
People always think.

Speaker 14 (01:14:38):
About you, you promote, I mean, the guys that people
want to see is the guys who win sometimes the
person people want to see is the guys they want
to see lose, And what happens is the Jake Paul
in general has been fighting guys and guys who are
athletes but not boxers, but who are athletes. He's in

(01:15:00):
a couple of boxes and he's beating them, and it
is frustrated fans to the point that they want to
see somebody knock him out, and that is Anthony Joshua.

Speaker 1 (01:15:12):
Well that's my point is like, okay, so are we
going to get to see that or is this another
one of those Hey man, I want to make this
money hit your account, so you don't go out there
and just beat the snot.

Speaker 3 (01:15:22):
Out of me.

Speaker 1 (01:15:23):
Because Anthony Joshua is a boxer, he is a champion.

Speaker 3 (01:15:26):
He's a six foot six guy.

Speaker 1 (01:15:29):
Did you see that way in yesterday did you see
the face off he was at his he was underneath
his chin.

Speaker 14 (01:15:36):
It looked like the video game Mike Tyson Punch Out exactly.

Speaker 3 (01:15:40):
That's exactly what it looked like.

Speaker 1 (01:15:42):
And I keep waiting for Glass Joe to get knocked out,
but he continues to find a way to beat in
this big time matchup every single time.

Speaker 14 (01:15:51):
Until it happens is going to be musty TV for
those who want to see.

Speaker 1 (01:15:58):
Always watching the night because I never ever, I've yet
to watch one of these fights.

Speaker 14 (01:16:02):
A good quote I've always paid attention to for those
people who like those sorts of things.

Speaker 3 (01:16:07):
Those are the source of things, those sort of people.

Speaker 1 (01:16:09):
Like, well, I'm a watch because I've yet to watch
this guy fight at all. And I don't believe that
we should be paying all this money for this.

Speaker 3 (01:16:22):
What are you're not paying? Well, you're paying with Netflix. Well,
I'm just saying like you are.

Speaker 1 (01:16:27):
People are going to these people are selling you out.

Speaker 3 (01:16:30):
I mean it's crazy.

Speaker 14 (01:16:31):
Yeah, but that's the Those are the Internet sports fan
those are the YouTuber sports fans.

Speaker 1 (01:16:37):
Yeah, that's what that is, no doubt about it. We'll
make sure you tune in on Monday. We got a
short week next week obviously because of Christmas, but we'll
be breaking it all down, but most importantly, make sure
you stay locked in today eleven o'clock right here on
sports Radio AM thirteen hundred to Zone myself and Camp
Parker from the stadium as coach Shark talks to the

(01:16:58):
media about this new hiring and what's next for this
Texas Longhorn football team for Mark Henry, for Marcus, I'm
hardball hard and just remember this, don't believe everything you see,
because even salt looks like sugar.

Speaker 3 (01:17:12):
Have a great, great weekend, and tune into all those
football games. Peace,
