(02:00):
we talked about it is the final preparations for the
Texas Longhorns as they get ready to take on the
Arkansas Razorbacks. That will take place tomorrow two thirty at
DKR Texas Memorial Stadium. We will get your day started
at eleven thirty from Bevo Boulevard. Myself, Mark Henry, and
(02:21):
of course we're going to bring in our guest that
was here yesterday, Eric Henry of Horns two four seven.
He will be a part of the show as we
break it all down and lead you up to that
rivalry matchup that is renewed with the Arkansas Razorbacks. But
yesterday coach Shark met with the media. He was a
little testy yesterday again as he's breaking down what's been
(02:45):
going on, what's been said, how does this translate as
we move forward, especially with the tampering. He'll get into
that conversation as well, but here's his opening comments as
they get ready to take on the Arkansas Razorbacks.
Speaker 4 (03:02):
Alrighty, you know what a great opportunity for our team.
Speaker 3 (03:06):
You know, anytime you you you.
Speaker 4 (03:08):
You lose a ballgame, especially on the road in a
Calbery game that we were in, I think you can
really test your character and test your culture. And you know,
one thing that this team has shown me throughout this
season is the resiliency that they that they possess.
Speaker 3 (03:26):
And this week has been no difference.
Speaker 4 (03:28):
And and I give our our players and our staff
a ton of credit for the way that they've come
right back to work understanding there's a lot of football
left to be played and We've got a great opportunity
to be back in dk R. You we've played here
once since September. Uh, So to be back in dk
R should be a great environment. And I know our team,
(03:49):
our coaches, everybody involved in our organization is looking forward
to the opportunity of of playing a long standing rival
uh in Arkansas. Some many team who haven't been here
nearly twenty years. But I know how much this game
means to a Longhorn nation, and so we're excited about
the opportunity. I'll tell you what. Our guys have been
working really hard. They got great energy, They're detailed and
(04:11):
what they're trying to get done.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
So looking forward to it. Yeah, we are. Everybody's looking
forward to it.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
And it's kind of funny because you start to think
about the rivalries and the ones that are being renewed,
and that the Arkansas rivalry is like no other. You know,
people always want to talk about the Texas.
Speaker 3 (04:27):
Oh you weekend.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
They want to talk about Texas and Texas A and
m Arkansas and Texas have a legitimate heye, it is
a one hundred percent word of hate.
Speaker 3 (04:38):
Are they on the market? They on the bucket, man.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
I'm telling you oh you Arkansas and Texas A and
m hey hate man hey hey hey hey hey hey
hey hey hey hey hey hey. That's the Earl Campbell
spit bucket. That's right, they on the spit bucket. Yeah,
got listen. I love the fact that Coach Start is
given the history to these guys and telling them that
(05:04):
we don't mess with them.
Speaker 3 (05:06):
They are the enemy. They not just competition, but we
beyond competition. This week.
Speaker 2 (05:13):
There's gonna be things that they do that's gonna work
against us because they want it more than we do.
Speaker 3 (05:19):
At that moment.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
But we can't let them have more moments than us.
And I yesterday I really started to I listened to
his interview over again, and his interview, he was rightfully
to be mad.
Speaker 3 (05:35):
He defended himself like somebody that's been lied on.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
You have been lied on before, of course, and then
somebody you go no, no, and you just go completely off.
He lost his character yesterday when he defended himself because
he was right. I felt it that he was right.
There are people that are conspiring against the Longhorns, so
(05:59):
that recruiting, so people that they're talking to about coming here.
Oh he gonna be gone he's not even gonna be there.
That's that's a line, and he's defending himself. But I'm
gonna tell you some hard like it's not gonna work
because he laid it out in a way that it
wouldn't coach speak.
Speaker 3 (06:17):
Yep, he talked from his heart yesterday. That was awesome.
We will definitely hear from that.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
But one of the things that Coach Sark was asked
was do the players truly understand what this rivalry is.
Speaker 3 (06:27):
I don't know if they completely understand it all.
Speaker 4 (06:30):
You know, we're fortunate we have a we have a
visitor at practice every day in Ted Coy, so he
gives him. He gives him a great reminder of what
this game meant and in that era, and and and
some of those you know, fantastic matchups one versus two
things of that nature. But when you have the break
and the lull in the action, I think for so
(06:50):
many of our players, what they know of a rivaly
is what they've seen on TV or the games that
they went to during recruiting. I know for some of
our current players and our current staff members. You know,
we went to Arkansas in twenty twenty one, and that
was not a very friendly welcome that we received that
first time going there, and so we understand that the
magnitude of the rivalry that way. Obviously going back last
(07:13):
year was helpful for us. But at the end of
the day, you know, a lot of our younger players,
they're gonna get introduced to that rivalry quickly, you know,
when this ball, when this ball gets gets kicked off Saturary.
But it's a great game. I'm so glad that we
get to play this game. You know, so many times,
you know over the last few years when people were
talking about conference realignment. With conference realignment, that so many
(07:37):
of these rivalries kind of fell off and people aren't
playing some of the great games that they played historically. Well,
we picked two back up, and I think that sometimes
that gets overlooked. And the fact that we're playing both
of these rival games at the end of the season
to go along with OU in the middle of the season.
These are special opportunities that our players are going to
remember for a lifetime.
Speaker 3 (07:58):
So we're gonna embrace it.
Speaker 4 (07:59):
We're gonna away, We're gonna we're gonna fight our tails
off sale ghosts.
Speaker 3 (08:03):
You know, my.
Speaker 2 (08:05):
Most fond memory memory, it's not fond. It's more vivid
memory memory of Arkansas is the Gator roll incident when
they grab Vince young ankle and hurt vents. That was
a regular occurrence that was part for the course. And
that's who we're talking about. We're talking about a team
(08:26):
that they lie still in cheat They pulled Eddie Guerrero out.
They don't like us, and they don't care about the rules.
So we got to go out there and we got
to hit them in the mouth. It's not about competition now,
it's about like trying to show your dominance. What we
(08:47):
didn't do in Georgia, the way that George just punched
us in the face in the fourth quarter.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
That's what you gotta do from the start.
Speaker 2 (08:54):
So hopefully they'll understand that this is a team that
don't like us, In fact, they hate it.
Speaker 1 (09:01):
They want to be a well the feelings should be
mutual and they will be able to do it. But
the one question that continues to remain is Anthony Hill
Junior going to be out on the field And if
he's not, what are those other linebackers have to do
to step up.
Speaker 4 (09:16):
He's been limited obviously, you guys have seen he's questionable
for Saturday, and he'll probably be questionable again tonight. We're
kind of taking this day by day with him to see,
you know, kind of how he feels towards the end
of the week. The beauty of it for Aunt, he's
played so much football for us, you know, and you
know that he can get a lot of reps done
throughout a walkthrough to see if he's healthy enough to go.
(09:39):
That the walk through reps I think can carry over
into a ballgame. But as far as Leonga and ty
Anthony go, those guys again, Lion has played a ton
of football for US, and he's played multiple positions for us.
Ty Anthony has really come on and I'm really proud
of him of how far he's come in our program
and the impact that he's had at linebacker. So we
(09:59):
feel very comfortable with those two guys who are very
comfortable to trade Moore as well. So Trey Moore obviously
provides a little bit more stature, I guess, if you
want to call it that at linebacker, where Lyne gives
us so much versatility playing multiple spots and to Anthony
gives us that speed factor that you have to have
at the dime position for us. So I think between
all three of those guys were in pretty good shape
(10:21):
at the position.
Speaker 3 (10:22):
If Anthony can't go, love it, love it.
Speaker 1 (10:24):
But one of the things that Coach Sark really wanted
to hammer home, and you brought it up a little
bit yesterday he was asked, we're guys being tampered with
and trying to get into your roster because of all
the news that was out there. For sure, Yes, yeah,
okay man. He was asked about who were those comments for?
(10:46):
Why were you so demonstrative yesterday? On Wednesday when he
was asked about what was going on, and he laid
it out to your point, Mark of what you mentioned earlier,
here's Coach Sark's comments about this is who I'm trying
to talk to the haters that are out there.
Speaker 3 (11:04):
I th us for everybody. It might have just been
for me, I don't know.
Speaker 5 (11:09):
You know.
Speaker 4 (11:09):
The thing about yesterday was this, Okay, Like, at the
end of the day, I've got a locker room full
of players who give me everything they have every day,
and the last thing I want to be is for
them to feel as though what people are saying about
me outside of our building serving as a distraction. For
them and or their families, but also I wanted to
say that for Longhorn Nation because I don't want them
(11:31):
anybody here to feel like boy, you know Sarks, you know,
window shopping and maybe he's trying to go.
Speaker 3 (11:36):
I'm not trying to go anywhere.
Speaker 4 (11:38):
And I think it's also for some of our opponents
that you know, hey, I'm not going anywhere.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
Stay out of our locker room.
Speaker 4 (11:46):
And maybe for some of the pundits out there that
don't cover me and cover our program on a regular basis,
so that they can understand that they can't just take
their trash out and then have a thought to think that, hey,
I think the Texas is going to have a job
of so think about something else when you're taking the
trash out, you.
Speaker 2 (12:04):
Know what, you know what? I think I think that
that's part of the problem, that there are people that
are taking side money just so they can go say
something and create a narrative that paints a horrible picture
of somebody. And maybe they need to look into his
books and see where his money is coming from.
Speaker 1 (12:23):
How about that take that for data? Pick that for
data coming up there you Mike will give out our picks.
That's right, y'all missed them yesterday because.
Speaker 3 (12:33):
We all went won and up. But we're not going
to use our picks from yesterday.
Speaker 1 (12:37):
Talk about it right here on the Morning Kickoff on
Sports AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Welcome back to the
morning kickoff right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred
The Zone. Make sure you set an alarm, continue to
listen the whole time because we will have lifetime Longhorn
and College Football Hall of Famer Michael Huff will be
(12:58):
joining us at at eight am.
Speaker 3 (13:02):
An hour from now.
Speaker 1 (13:03):
We will also talk to Ann Parker Coleman as she
breaks down the high school playoff situation, and of course
we get a chance to talk Texas football with her.
Speaker 3 (13:15):
But right now, you know what time it is.
Speaker 1 (13:17):
We didn't get a chance to do it yesterday, so
we decided to run it back.
Speaker 3 (13:22):
Now you get a chance to get our college and
NFL picks for entertainment purposes only.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
All right, let's get into it. Mark, you had a
good wig last week. We're gonna let you start to gain.
Speaker 3 (13:38):
Wasn't that great?
Speaker 6 (13:39):
Bro?
Speaker 3 (13:40):
Let's pump the breaks on that.
Speaker 1 (13:41):
But we will get into the conversation right now. Mark,
give us your college football pick number one.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
All about hate in the advance then of Texas. I'm
going Missouri over Open a home mind.
Speaker 1 (14:00):
Minus six and a half, minus six and a half
Missouri over Oklahoma backus.
Speaker 3 (14:08):
What is your pick? Can you turn that? NFL? Yeah,
there we're going. I like that, U little bit? Uh

Speaker 2 (14:17):

or South Florida both of us.
Speaker 3 (14:28):
Yeah, South Florida.
Speaker 1 (14:29):
They were trying to make their way into the college football.
Speaker 3 (14:33):
Yeah, they had to pull that back a little bit.
My pick will be you.
Speaker 1 (14:39):
And LV minus three versus Hawaii un LV over Hawaii
minus three. My second pick will be the Minnesota Gophers
plus three over north Western. They will be taking on Northwestern.
I tank Minnesota plus three.
Speaker 3 (14:58):
Mark Henry more more hate.
Speaker 2 (15:01):
I'm going Syracuse to knock off Notre Dame.
Speaker 1 (15:06):
Syracuse plus thirty six and a half versus Notre Dame Marcus.
Speaker 3 (15:14):
I'm peeping off of Mark's paper.
Speaker 7 (15:16):
I'm also taking Syracuse plus thirty six and a half
versus Notre Dame.
Speaker 1 (15:20):
That's two for the Qus plus thirty six cent and
a half. Marcus, give us your third pick for college.
Speaker 2 (15:27):
Football, Virginia Tech plus eighteen and a half versus Miami.
Speaker 3 (15:32):
The you you picked vog Tech. They have now named
their head coach.
Speaker 1 (15:38):
Franklin is now the head coach at Virginia Tech, but
he's not coaching this weekend.
Speaker 3 (15:43):
He just got there.
Speaker 1 (15:45):
So Virginia Tech plus six plus eighteen and a half. Mark, Oh,
let me give mine first. Jacksonville State.
Speaker 3 (15:53):
That's right, I've been with you with God. My guy
cam Cook round.
Speaker 1 (15:58):
Rock Stony Point running back is leading the nation with
his play minus one and a half over Florida International
University my first NFL pick.
Speaker 3 (16:10):
Well, oh, hey, you got one more college pick, don't you?
Speaker 2 (16:12):
Yeah do Yeah, go ahead, I'm gonna do with the hate.
I won USC over Oregon. USC versus Oregon. You got
Oregon or USC plus ten and a half plus ten
and a half.
Speaker 1 (16:26):
All right, All right, there it is Mark's college picks.
Missouri plus six and a half, USC plus ten and
a half and QS plus thirty six.
Speaker 3 (16:37):
And a half. He's taking the dogs, taking the dogs.
Speaker 1 (16:40):
I have UNLB minus three, Minnesota plus three in Jacksonville
State minus one and a half. Marcus took UAB plus
twenty one QS plus thirty six and a half in
Virginia Tech plus eighteen and a half. Fashe points, Now
we go to the n of M and all.
Speaker 3 (17:01):
Start it off.
Speaker 1 (17:02):
I'm gonna take the Cincinnati Bengals. Joe Burrow is back
in the saddle. He will be taking on the New
England Patriots. I will take the Bengals plus five and
a half.
Speaker 2 (17:15):
Mark, since I already I'm one to zero already, and
I picked the Texans over the Bills.
Speaker 3 (17:21):
Okay, I'm jumping, all right, I did, though.
Speaker 2 (17:25):
I'm going with the Colts to put dirt more dirt
on the Chiefs.
Speaker 1 (17:32):
And you CARRYM three and a half plus three and
a half for.
Speaker 3 (17:35):
The Colts, Yes, sir, Marcus. The Cardinals plus three versus
the Jaguars. That's gonna be big.
Speaker 1 (17:42):
I wonder if comedy Jaguars I like it.
Speaker 8 (17:45):
I like it.
Speaker 3 (17:46):
That helps him out too.
Speaker 1 (17:47):
He's looking at what the the Texans did last night
to be favorable for himself.
Speaker 3 (17:55):
I will Mark just go ahead and take your second perier.
Speaker 4 (17:57):
I'm taking the Panthers plus seven versus the forty nine.
Speaker 3 (18:00):
Plus seven versus the Niners.
Speaker 1 (18:02):
The Carolina Panthers have been playing some really good football.
Bryce Young is looking like that Heisman Trophy winner being
able to play well.
Speaker 2 (18:10):
Mark, I'm gonna go with the Rams over the Buccaneers.
Speaker 1 (18:15):
Minus six and a half. Got to cover the six
and a half. Tampa Bay struggling a little bit. They
don't They're losing a lot of receivers, they don't have
their playmakers. Hopefully they'll get some back this weekend. I
am going against Mark Henry on the Kansas City Chiefs pick.
I will take the Chiefs minus three and a half
over Indy.
Speaker 3 (18:37):
I'm not gonna say they're not leaving until they are. God.
Speaker 1 (18:41):
I am not going against the Chiefs if they lose.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
This week Mark this sound put it on them.
Speaker 1 (18:47):
Put it on them, Marcus, your final pick in the
nf of L.
Speaker 3 (18:53):
I'm taking a little risky.
Speaker 1 (18:55):
I'm going Bears minus two and a half versus the Stillers.
It's not big, that's not a risk because in fact,
they don't know if Aaron Rodgers is gonna play with
his fractured risks. So the Bears have been playing really
good football. They've been finding ways to get it done.
Speaker 3 (19:10):
Bears minus two and a half. Mark.
Speaker 2 (19:14):
Of course, I'm gonna take my Cowboys over the Eagles
because that's what we do.
Speaker 1 (19:22):
Cowboys plus three and a half over the Eagles.
Speaker 3 (19:27):
New team you.
Speaker 2 (19:28):
Defensive in intensity, I'm.
Speaker 3 (19:30):
Ready, I'm up four. My final pick will be the
Cleveland Browns. Cleveland, this is for you, Cleveland.
Speaker 1 (19:39):
I am picking the Cleveland Browns plus three and.
Speaker 3 (19:43):
A half over the raid Us. Did you turn into
Home and Simpsons?
Speaker 6 (19:48):
Now?
Speaker 1 (19:48):
I turned it into Cleveland Brown. Oh, Cleveland, that's who
it was. I turned into Cleveland Brown. I am taking
the Cleveland Browns plus three and a half over the race.
So I went Bengals plus five and a half, Kansas
City minus three and a half, in Cleveland plus three
and a half. Mark went Colts plus three and a half,
(20:12):
Rams minus six and a half, and the Cowboys plus
three and a half. And Marcus went Cardinals plus three,
Panthers plus seven, and dub Bears minus two and a half.
And remember, folks, use these pics at your leisure because
it is for.
Speaker 2 (20:30):
Entertainment purposes only. Do not blame us. And if you
have a problem, called one, there it is. And listen.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
If you lose your mortgage, that's on you, not us
entertainment purposes only. Coming up next, we're gonna hear more
from coach Sark as he prepares to take on Arkansas,
and don't forget at eight o'clock we'll have Lifetime Longhorn
and College Football Hall of Famer Michael Huff joining us.
(21:04):
And it's ironic that yesterday we had Stevie Lee on
and Stevie Lee said, Michael Huff will get there, but
he just go.
Speaker 2 (21:11):
Why did he do the He gave me the Dion
Sanders tag. He gonna get there fast, he gonnaela, but
he gonna hold on until everybody else comes to save
the y'all jump on the pile.
Speaker 3 (21:24):
They found us.
Speaker 1 (21:26):
And we all gall y'all, I'm here, but y'all got
to get back and help me out.
Speaker 3 (21:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (21:31):
I look forward to talking to Huff, Daddy. He's uh,
he's one of those legends.
Speaker 2 (21:36):
I want him to answer to Stevie Lee's criticism.
Speaker 3 (21:38):
Oh, you know he's going to.
Speaker 1 (21:40):
But the best part about Huff is he's still continuing
to give back to the university and doing everything he
can to be a mentor to these kids.
Speaker 3 (21:48):
You look good with that gold head on, dude. For
Shure for show.
Speaker 1 (21:52):
When we come back, we'll hear from coach Shark and
continue the conversations right here on the morning Kickoff on
sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Welcome back to
the morning Kickoff right here on sports Radio AM thirteen
hundred The Zone. Mike Harball hars World's Strongest Man WWE
Hall of Famer the Mark Henry. And of course we've
got our guy Marcus holding it down behind the boards.
(22:14):
And just like in football, sometimes you got to call
him audible, we'll still get a chance to.
Speaker 3 (22:19):
Hear omaha, omaha.
Speaker 8 (22:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (22:21):
We got to do a check check check check. Check
with me, check with me.
Speaker 1 (22:24):
Here we go get an opportunity, uh for the holiday season.
It is important to understand that giving is all that
it's about when you have an opportunity. And joining us
now is a good friend of mine. He has been
in this community for quite some time.
Speaker 3 (22:43):
He has ah he's the owner of Spinners.
Speaker 1 (22:46):
He's the owner of Sip and Smash Social, which is
a new pickleball court slash bar that has some things
going on out there. Here's my good friend Aurash and
a Rash. I wanted to talk to you and first off,
thank you for the turkey legs. By the way, Miss
you will appreciate you bringing us those.
Speaker 3 (23:07):
Key to my heart is through my stomach as always
as always.
Speaker 1 (23:13):
But you and your organization have been around for quite
some time and you like to give back to the
community in any way possible, and one of those is
obviously during this type of season, you want to do
a toy drive, but you also do Operation Turkey. You've
been a part of that for a long time and
giving out Thanksgiving meals. But tell everybody how you or
(23:34):
they can help you help these kids out.
Speaker 9 (23:38):
Well, you know this time of year, we do try
to do a lot of things to help out the community,
and like you said, one of the things we do
is Operation Turkey. Last year we delivered over fourteen hundred
plates out of spinners. The day before on Wednesday, we
and a whole bunch of other people smoke a bunch
of turkeys and we come in the morning on a Thursday,
(24:01):
put all this places together and distribute them out. But
you also want to talk about on that same day,
it's a very long day for me because we also
do a toy drive that we've been doing for the
last thirteen years. This will be our thirteenth annual one
and the toys go to Brown Santa and they get
distributed to children here in Central Texas for those of
their need.
Speaker 2 (24:20):
Man, tell me how I could be a part of that,
Like what what do I need to do as an individual?
Speaker 3 (24:25):
And everybody else? Y'all pay attention to this because I
want you all to help me with this.
Speaker 2 (24:30):
Like what can I do to come and help distribute
or recruit people to bring toys?
Speaker 9 (24:36):
Just yeah, recruit people, come stop by, drop off a
little toy. Doesn't have to be expensive, just something that
you know, some kids can have something.
Speaker 3 (24:43):
We could drop it off at Spinner. You can drop
it off at Spinners. Well what's what's the address? So
one four one six North I Age thirty five.
Speaker 1 (24:50):
Okay, yeah, we're all The construction on the earth is
going on. Yeah really yeah, yeah, we've been We've been
driving over there for years and it seems like that
road is never fixed. But we love the fact that
what you've been able to do. And you know, my
uncle Sheriff Hamilton is a big part of the things
(25:11):
that you do as well. But one thing that I've
always enjoyed is the fact of you know, people don't
understand that club owners are people too. People that are
running businesses are people too. So you also have ways
at your place to give back to the community. And
a lot of people don't get to see that part
(25:33):
of it because a lot of times you like to
stay out the way and let things happen. But these
are the type of moments that you live for to
make sure that some kid or some family is not
going hungry through the holidays and they get a chance
to open up a present on Christmas.
Speaker 2 (25:47):
Day, and you, please, guys, bring some stuff that's wrapped
in packages.
Speaker 3 (25:53):
I did a toy drive last year, and you know
you can drop off the toys that are already open.
Speaker 2 (26:00):
But there's a lot of times these kids they don't
get gifts, and we want them to be new. We
wanted them to be the first time they play with them,
to open them up out.
Speaker 3 (26:08):
Of the rappers.
Speaker 2 (26:08):
So you're telling us to wrap them. No, I'm saying that,
don't take them out of the packaging. Bring a new toy.
Speaker 3 (26:16):
Not that we already got. I want them gifted.
Speaker 2 (26:21):
So we we wrapped up and cell a phane and
bagged probably about one hundred and fifty two hundred toys
that were already used and had to sanitize them and
all that kind of stuff, and that's cool, but like
new toys. Please yeah, please.
Speaker 1 (26:39):
So tell tell people how they can help again.
Speaker 3 (26:41):
Hurash once again. You can.
Speaker 9 (26:43):
You can stop by Spinners anytime. You don't have to
come on Wednesday. You can come today or any time
between and even after Wednesday, and we have barrels there.
Speaker 3 (26:51):
You come in and drop off a toy, you know,
at your leisure. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (26:56):
Yeah, And tell everybody about sipp and Smash Social because
that is a place that I frequented already since it's
been open.
Speaker 3 (27:05):
We've been over there.
Speaker 1 (27:06):
Quite a bit went by while you were building it
out and getting a chance to build those pickle ball
courts because a lot of people they don't know about
that area in Flugerville closer to Huddle that on one
thirty where people can come out there and hang out
as well and watch the game.
Speaker 3 (27:22):
You're absolutely right.
Speaker 6 (27:23):
You know.
Speaker 9 (27:24):
One thing I was looking yesterday I found out that
that one thirty, that area of one thirty is called
Pickle Parkway. Oh but Siven Smash we have three pickleball courts.
We took a space that has been underutilized and we've
turned into a family events center. You can bring you
can come with your kids, you can come with your dog.
We have a little dog park there, we have a
(27:45):
little playground. We have the whole place turfed out. You
can come in and have your holiday parties, come in
with groups of friends, or even just come for a
pick a ball tournament that we're having.
Speaker 1 (27:57):
Coming out nice And before we let you go with this,
I wanted to ask you know, obviously Mark Toad said
it the way to his heart is bringing food. So
not only as spinners do you have an opportunity to donate.
You got a chance to eat over there as well.
So he brought in some turkey legs, foods and excuse me, claw,
(28:23):
he brought in us some turkey legs. So that is
one of your I guess you would say one of
your main attractions over there, because a lot of people
come in and get turkey legs. But it also comes
with macaroni and cheese, dirty rice and what else.
Speaker 3 (28:38):
Well, you do we have a fetichini alfredo.
Speaker 9 (28:40):
We have we have stuffing for this for the holiday season,
and we are known for the turkey legs.
Speaker 3 (28:45):
They fall off the bone.
Speaker 9 (28:46):
We have a food truck called a turkey truck that
we send out and you know we specialize in barbecue
and crab boils.
Speaker 1 (28:55):
Yeah, yeah, and I've experienced all of that and today.
Speaker 3 (29:00):
And today we get to experience some turkey labs. A man, I'm.
Speaker 2 (29:05):
Looking at this package and it's not looking like it's
protected so.
Speaker 3 (29:10):
You could actually get to it. I might just have
to dig into this.
Speaker 10 (29:14):
Yeah, I brought those for them and you Our turkey
legs weigh about two pounds each and then we layer
it with mac and cheese or dirty rice or whatever
fixing you.
Speaker 3 (29:29):
Like, I don't need this plastic. Well, well we know
how much it's like Christmas. You will definitely tear the
bag up.
Speaker 1 (29:41):
As always, man, we appreciate you taking the time.
Speaker 3 (29:43):
To fall through.
Speaker 1 (29:44):
We appreciate you and what you do for the community,
and we'll continue to spread the word to let you,
uh make sure people come out there and bring some
toys and help with the turkey dry. And of course
Mark has opened it up. If you're looking on our Twitter,
on our social media, it's got you see Mark over
here eating.
Speaker 2 (30:04):
I'm like, oh yeah, I'm just showing everybody so they
can get out what are you about.
Speaker 1 (30:11):
As always, we don't get before and after it a
little bit exactly. I want to thank everybody for I mean,
I want to thank aurajh for coming in.
Speaker 3 (30:18):
Make sure you get.
Speaker 1 (30:18):
Over the Spinners, drop off a toy and of course
get some of them turkey legs, and just remember it's
more about giving than it is than receiving. But today
I appreciate you letting us receive these turkey legs. When
we come back, we'll close out our number one and
get a chance to talk about the Houston Texans beat
the Buffalo Bills. Congrats to the Texans, But what's really
(30:43):
happening in Buffalo. We'll talk about it right here on
the morning kickoff on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred. That's
all special shout out to our guy Urash for coming
through and bringing the Turkey legs. Operation Turkey happens next
week at Spinners right off of their off of I
thirty five.
Speaker 3 (31:02):
Mark.
Speaker 1 (31:05):
Yeah, we got a show to do. Bro like you
over there eating snacking. Coming up in the next segment,
we will have our guy, Michael Huff College Football Hall
of Fame in d and of course he's being able
to represent the University of Texas and actually.
Speaker 3 (31:26):
Get recognized for what he's been able to do.
Speaker 1 (31:30):
I want to get into this because last night the
Houston Texans Mark you said it. They the Buffalo Bills
have had a tough time playing the the Houston Texans,
and last night was no different.
Speaker 3 (31:44):
In here are some of the highlights from last night.
Speaker 8 (31:47):
How well the matchup on the perimeter goes, we'll go
a long way to something deciding who.
Speaker 11 (31:51):
Wins in ten different receivers last week. Meanwhile, taking and
running his way as Cook, he's out in front at quick,
we'll take it on a way for a touchdown. Play
fake pass, White off the touchdown for the twenty five
(32:12):
yard line. Get the ball at the end of the half,
and they get the ball to start the third quarter.
Rate Davis to run the kickback, spinning still on his feet.
I passed the forty. He's out in front, nobody's gonna
chase him down all the way for a touchdown. Ninety
(32:33):
eight yards. Mills to the end zone. Cart touchdown, Higgins.
Now that brings your gear back into the backfield. Flare
him out. Allan throws off his back foot short picked
(32:54):
at the nine yard line. We'll lock They gotta call it.
He's a flag down on the play at the eleven
yard line. Come in here. Last year, Allen has one
of the worst games of his career. Tonight he gets
sacked eight times, picked off two tuns.
Speaker 3 (33:11):
And let's give tomko Ryan's a lot of credit.
Speaker 8 (33:14):
This is a team that was sitting there at oos three,
had big expectations. They've been able to win now six
of their last eight.
Speaker 1 (33:22):
And the fact that what they've been able to do
he just said at six of the last eight, they've
got a three game winning streak.
Speaker 3 (33:29):
It is amazing. And they've done it without CJ. Stroud.
Speaker 1 (33:34):
It's amazing what they've been able to do in such
a short period of time.
Speaker 3 (33:39):
And here they are. The Colts are.
Speaker 1 (33:41):
Sitting at eight and two, Jacksonville six and four, and
the Texans are right in the hunt at six and five.
Speaker 2 (33:48):
More people need to adopt the style of defense that
Houston plays against the Eagles and the way that they
play against the Buffalo Bills. In the Baltimore Ravens running quarterbacks,
they have defensive ends that fight hard to stay on
the outside shoulder of the tackle and then they turn
around and get back up field.
Speaker 3 (34:09):
But you have to have the personnel to do that.
Speaker 2 (34:12):
Not to mention, you have a cornerback that you don't
even challenge and Stingley like he Stingley he's got a
sixty four success rate for quarterbacks, so you don't throw
at him. It was like Dion like that side of
the field is his because so you force teams to
(34:36):
if you're scrambling. If Josh Allen is scrambling, don't throw
to that side of the field. So they want him
to scramble. They want him to. And if you can
force teams to do that, then you win. And but
I'm more disappointed in Houston. They could have put that
game out of reach. It is the NFL mark you
(34:59):
do really later statistics so much that they don't play
with let me put my foot in your throat, like
I don't want to take any chances. I just don't
like that. And Houston does that a lot. They rely
on the defense. And I mean they had seven uh,
they had seven get backs. They got the ball seven
(35:21):
times from Buffalo and they only came up with three points.
That's that's come on, that's ridiculous. Well again it is.
I know they won the game.
Speaker 1 (35:34):
Yeah, man, it's not there's no dominance in the NFL.
It's hard to do that every single week. It's hard
to go out there and think you're about to bury somebody,
as you like to say. With the Chiefs, the Chiefs
are still the Chiefs. The Buffalo Bills are still the
(35:54):
Buffalo Bills. They still have Josh Allen out there. Even
though they said eight sacks to turnal there was two picks,
which is out of his character normally, but you said it.
The Houston Texans have the magic elixir when it comes
to teams like that, but they're still talent. Just like
with with h Lamar Jackson. You're not gonna hold him forever. No,
(36:19):
you're gonna have to You're gonna have to give up something.
And the problem was they stopped running the ball. James
Cook was running the ball well last night. He had
a big touchdown run. He was effective in those in
those spots. But then they went away from him and
the Texans was like, okay, good, thank you.
Speaker 3 (36:37):
It's the same. Yeah.
Speaker 7 (36:39):
The Texans are a team that you can't get one
dimensional and rely strictly on your passing game with Hunter
and Anderson on those ends and the boy rush up
the middle, is not bad either.
Speaker 2 (36:50):
It's not and but but Houston could be a better
team and they're not bad. They could be a better team,
a more dominant team, if they threw the ball and
took chances beyond fifteen yards.
Speaker 3 (37:04):
Everybody's so crowded up in.
Speaker 2 (37:06):
There, and we thought that getting Kirk, that he would
fill the spot where DLL was, where you know, you
could throw him the scene and you could throw him
those deep outs to the pyelone over twenty yard passes.
Speaker 3 (37:22):
Houston won't do it. They just won't do it. And
I don't get it.
Speaker 2 (37:27):
Like you're going to have a quarter a wide receiver
that's one hundred and eighty pounds running crossers, right, Like,
why would you? Why would you even pay him the money?
And they paid him a lot of money.
Speaker 3 (37:41):
And yes he was hurt, and he's ben't hurt a lot,
but he's back.
Speaker 2 (37:45):
The reason he's hurt is because he's running crossers. You
one hundred and eighty pounds, Like, do what he was
designed to do. If you want to run crossers, run Higgins, well,
Higgins gotta make sure you catch Noel.
Speaker 3 (38:01):
Both of those guys are big guys, is what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (38:03):
Yeah, you know, let the big guys take that inside
he punishment.
Speaker 1 (38:08):
Well, we're gonna see the big victory for the Houston Texans.
As Mark said, they always find a way.
Speaker 3 (38:16):
To get it done with the.
Speaker 1 (38:19):
Buffalo Bills, the Baltimore Ravens, and if you running quarterback,
you got some things you got.
Speaker 3 (38:25):
To figure out.
Speaker 1 (38:26):
But nothing needs to be figured out. He's a College
Football Hall of Famer, he's a Thorpe Award winner, first
round drive pick, and he's coming up next. Michael Huff
joins us right here on the morning kickoff on sports
Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Welcome back to the
morning kickoff right here on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred
(38:47):
The Zone. Our number two is underway and our number one.
We got a chance to hear from coach Sark. We
gave out our picks of the week, and we got
a chance to get some turkey legs.
Speaker 2 (38:59):
Listen, far can I give a Roger compliment? Absolutely, a
lot of times you get turkey legs. H you can't
eat the skin because it's so tough.
Speaker 3 (39:11):
Man. These these turkey legs are so soft.
Speaker 2 (39:14):
So I mean, like the little tendon pieces are they
come apart as you pull it like, you don't have
to struggle on it.
Speaker 3 (39:21):
Man. What a great place.
Speaker 2 (39:24):
And one of the one of the better things about
it is they put a brown sugar rub on them
guys on the skin. I mean, it's just if you
get a chance, go buy spinners because you have to
get one of these turkey legs.
Speaker 1 (39:35):
It's spectacular. Yeah, And he's been doing it for a
long time. He's been in the game for a minute.
He has been giving back to the community like no
other and and I appreciate him taking the time to
bring this to us.
Speaker 2 (39:49):
If you want to see me at noon, I'm gonna
go buy some toys and I'm gonna go out there
and donate some toys to the to the to the
fun guys.
Speaker 3 (39:59):
Like I said, y'all out there.
Speaker 1 (40:00):
At noon, one o'clock, yeah, noon or one o'clock.
Speaker 3 (40:04):
Well, I'm gonna be there from noon to Okay, all right,
one y'all gonna miss it. You're gonna drive all the
way out there for nothing.
Speaker 1 (40:14):
You're gonna put it in a win, You're gonna put
it in the wind.
Speaker 3 (40:18):
Yeah, already know. My larm went off. Time to go,
Time to go.
Speaker 1 (40:24):
We are efforting Michael huff If we don't get him
at this time. We'll end up getting him a little
bit later. We'll try to put him in at some
point this morning because I definitely want to talk to
him about his career, what's been going on with it,
how things have been going.
Speaker 2 (40:40):
Just congratulate him because you know, he's done so much
after his playing days that we rarely get the shout
guys out for their efforts and what they do with
the second part of the second half of their career.
Speaker 3 (40:56):
Yeah, no doubt.
Speaker 1 (40:57):
And you know he's got an amazing kids and they're
doing amazing things as well. So it has been an
interesting time. But right now I want you to hear
from Coach Sark as Coach Sark was talking about the
challenges of Bobby Patrino and what his offenses look like
(41:19):
at those particular times. Because when Bobby Patrino was at
Arkansas the first time he led them, it was exciting time.
He got opportunity to go to the NFL. He ended
up having to leave Arkansas because of the things that happened.
Speaker 3 (41:33):
We're not going to talk about that.
Speaker 1 (41:36):
Motorcycles said, So there was some things that happened, and
now Bobby Patrino and his offense with Taylor Green provide
some challenges.
Speaker 4 (41:48):
I think coach Patrino, obviously, he's been doing it a
long time and it's bunda doing it at a high
level at various places. I think at the end of
the day, you know what they're able to do that
make them so difficult as they've got all the pro
style offense that you want, the past game, the run game,
the play ash game, the multiple personnels. You add it
with the designed quarterback runs, which is a real problem,
(42:11):
and then the ad living of the quarterback when when
when the play breaks down and so uh, but coach
Petrino is going to exploit your weaknesses when he can
find them, and and if he can find him, he's
going to attack you that way, and he's gonna and
then he's going to have layers to those plays in
which he attacks you with. And so, like I said,
he's a great coach. He's been doing it a long
time and we've got to work it out for us.
Speaker 1 (42:34):
And also the other challenge that coach Stark had to
deal with this week was the outside noise and he
was asked, are you surprised with all the noise that
is being talked about you and your team.
Speaker 3 (42:48):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (42:49):
That's probably a better question for you guys. You're the
ones that are writing about it and talking about it,
not really for me.
Speaker 2 (42:54):
Yeah, he was very direct when it came to the conversation.
You know, he was mad because I was not one
of them. Coach Sark, by the way, that retweeted it,
that that that spreaded the news. But a lot of
our media, like they do their job by letting letting
everybody know what's going on. And even if it was
(43:19):
if it was false, we didn't know that it was.
Speaker 3 (43:22):
It was not false. All we could do is report
the news. It was fact what happened.
Speaker 2 (43:28):
And and I'm you know, once I heard Coach Sark's response,
then I realized that he was he was right.
Speaker 1 (43:36):
Well joining us now is the one and only lifetime
Longhorn College Football Hall of Famer, Thorpe Award winner, first
round draft pick, and superstar human being. Michael Huff. Good morning, Huff.
How you doing, buddy, I'm good good.
Speaker 8 (43:51):
I didn't know if I was big time enough to
be on the show, So thanks for having me.
Speaker 2 (43:54):
Yeah, right, mister college Football Hall of Fame.
Speaker 8 (43:59):
First, remember last time, last time I saw you was
randomly at the airport in the Bahamas.
Speaker 3 (44:04):
I don't know.
Speaker 8 (44:04):
We vacationed at the same place.
Speaker 3 (44:06):
Well, actually I was working.
Speaker 2 (44:08):
We had our career show and I invited you.
Speaker 3 (44:12):
I was dead serious.
Speaker 2 (44:13):
If you and your daughter would have wanted to come
to the show, I would have put you in the
front row.
Speaker 8 (44:18):
I appreciate you. Your wife has all kinds of stuff played,
so you know when going vacation, it's her trip.
Speaker 3 (44:23):
Yeah, we understand. We understand that.
Speaker 1 (44:28):
I want to get into the conversation with you because
you know, being a University of Texas graduate, being a
University of Texas former player, and still being a part
of the culture at the university, and now being a
College Football Hall of Fame inductee, how special has your
(44:48):
time been on the.
Speaker 3 (44:49):
Forty Acres.
Speaker 8 (44:52):
To be me without the University of Texas, I mean
they made me the husband I am today, and made
me the father I am today, they made me the
businessman I am today. So for me, like I owe
the school everything, so for me just going in the
Hall of Fame and being able to represent Texas really forever,
it really represented everybody that played with me from one
to five. You know, whether it's the stress staff and
(45:15):
the equipment of everybody then had a role from two
thousand and one to two thousand and five. I feel
like it's going in the Hall of Fame with me.
So just for me to be able to be there
represent the school, university of the state, I mean, I
feel like it's special when it's something that I'll always
appreciate and you know, it'll always be special to me.
Speaker 3 (45:31):
Coach.
Speaker 2 (45:32):
One of the things that we talked about earlier today
was the renewing of the rivalries between A and M
and Arkansas or Arkansas and A and M, which went
away when they left the Big twelve, And now that
Texas is back with those teams in the SEC, have
(45:56):
y'all done some.
Speaker 3 (45:58):
Educational things to.
Speaker 1 (46:01):
Let these people know that we hard is over here
playing music for you, Mike.
Speaker 3 (46:08):
Getting this jam on in the middle of the show.
Speaker 2 (46:11):
Have y'all educated them on the rivalry between UH Texas
and Arkansas, because you know, like we we remember the
ankle rolling and the cut blocking and all of the
foul things that they used to do.
Speaker 3 (46:28):
Like, is that something that y'all are educating them on?
Speaker 8 (46:32):
Yeah, I definitely think Sarks done a great job of
kind of just you know, just letting guys know this
is truly a rivalry. I mean, they care more about
beating Texas than they do about anybody else, Like they
rather beat Texas than lose any other opponent. So I
think Sarks done a great job was kind of bringing
guys back and just you know, really just talking to
the team about the legacy, the rivalry, the hatred that
(46:55):
goes on between Copley, Arkansas A and m OU. So
I definitely first done a great job and obviously on
my staff, so I'll talk to the guys and really
just tell them, I mean, this is truly a rivalry,
Like they really hate us, like they hate they hate
us with the passes. So we definitely let them know that.
Speaker 3 (47:14):
So let me ask you this, Mike. We're talking to
College Football.
Speaker 1 (47:16):
Hall of Famer newly inducted College Football Hall of Famer
Michael Huff and the ceremonies coming up in a couple
of weeks.
Speaker 8 (47:24):
Right, Mike, December ninth.
Speaker 1 (47:27):
Yeah, and I was fortunate enough to be invited to
Kenny Simms Rip to the legend Kenny Simms induction at
the College Football Hall of Fame. And let's just say
you were going to be treated like royalty by not
only the Texas people, but your brothering in the College
Football Hall of Fame. But I wanted to ask you
(47:49):
this about John A. Barn You know, somebody that played
the position like yourself, somebody that ended up winning the
Thorpe Award, and he mentioned you numerous times about leaning
on you to educate him what it means to.
Speaker 3 (48:06):
Be that type of player.
Speaker 1 (48:07):
How special there was the season that Jah Day, Baron
and you got a chance to.
Speaker 2 (48:12):
Be front row for I think a predator got him.
There you go, now, we got you.
Speaker 8 (48:24):
Go ahead, you hear it up?
Speaker 3 (48:25):
Yep?
Speaker 8 (48:26):
Okay, yeah. I think the best part is, you know,
I've been around him since he was sixteen, obviously, first
recruiting him and being around him, so for me just
to see the transition, the growth, and you know, he's
one guy that just loves football like eats breeds leeps football.
So from the day he got here. The first day
he got here, he told me he's gonna be better
than me. Was like, you know, who's this young kid
(48:48):
is coming in a baby true freshman, Like, okay, I'm
going to be better than you. But that's kind of
the work ethic, the mentality that he had everything he
got he earned, like he worked for everything. So for me,
he just see just the growth and the maturation over
these years and to see everything he accomplished and winning
the warp, going first round, you know, being able to
take care of his family because he's a big, big
(49:10):
mama's boy, so everything he does for his mom. Just
just seeing all that and seeing the growth and like
I said, the maturation. I mean, it's just especial when
it kind of reminds me of why I'm up here
and why I'm in the world.
Speaker 2 (49:21):
That lamp today. Those guys make good husbands. Uh, Coach Jeff,
I don't want to do this, but I have to.
Speaker 3 (49:31):
I have to.
Speaker 2 (49:32):
We had Steven Lee on yesterday and he made some
not disparaging comments. Okay, yes they were. They were a
little bit derogatory. He questioned your ability to tackle. He said,
you were perfect in everything else, but you had the
deone Sander's disease that you used to like, the you
(49:55):
used to like the untied people's shoelaces and hold on.
Speaker 8 (50:01):
Yeah, I feel like I was in between Beyond and
Ronnie Lott. So wherever you put me at where spectrum. Yeah,
wherever you put me in that spectrum, that's on you.
But I'm in between. I'm not as bad as beyond
and I'm not as good as a Ronnie Lott. So
I'm like I was somewhere in between. But obviously we
got the job done. I did enough to win the
(50:22):
thorpe Go first round unanimous all Americans, So I did
something right.
Speaker 1 (50:27):
Yeah, something right with bro saying college Football Hall of Famer.
Speaker 3 (50:34):
And before I.
Speaker 1 (50:34):
Go, we gotta we definitely got to ask you about
your beautiful daughters. I know one is an equestrian writer
and another one plays tennis.
Speaker 3 (50:44):
How special is it we're both we're all three of us.
You can't have money.
Speaker 1 (50:47):
We're all girl dads understand what it's like. But tell
us about those young ladies and what they got going on.
Speaker 8 (50:56):
Yeah, I think the best part is obviously about being
a father and especially being a girl. That is like
they found their passion. They found the.
Speaker 3 (51:02):
Thing they love.
Speaker 8 (51:03):
It's not like having the sun and kind of pushing
towards football, basketball, you know, all these sports that we played,
like for them, like they generally found their passion. Because
I didn't know anything about the horse world. The questioned, world,
I really knew this world. But that's just kind of
sports they gravitude or gravitate towards they love. Like I
could drop my oldest off at the barn at six am,
(51:25):
pick her up at like five six pm, and she's
happy being at the barn all day and being around
the animals, just cleaning all the stalls and cleaning all
the animals. And also they I mean, they truly love
it with the passion, and I'll support anything they want
to do, you know, I say, it just makes makes
them father happy when they find their passion and what
they want to do.
Speaker 2 (51:43):
You see that smile, and you hear them laugh about
stuff that you wouldn't laugh about, but it makes them
feel good.
Speaker 3 (51:51):
It's great feeling.
Speaker 8 (51:53):
Oh yeah, until I get those bills and then I.
Speaker 3 (51:55):
Go back to work the sports that they chose.
Speaker 8 (52:01):
Yeah. I always talked to John Bianco because he has
two daughters as well, and now, so they went the
volleyball out and he tells me kind of the travel
volleyball and all that, and I try. I showed some
of my bills from the horse decks horse deck riding
in the tennis. He's like, oh yeah, yeah, you definitely
got me beat.
Speaker 1 (52:18):
We totally understand that, but we would be remiss if
we didn't congratulate you.
Speaker 3 (52:24):
Tell tell you how proud we are of your man.
And I was.
Speaker 1 (52:27):
I got a chance to break bread with Nathan Vasher
yesterday and he said, huff, daddy is the man. So
he wanted me to give you a shout out as well.
Speaker 8 (52:36):
Oh thank you. I wouldn't be here without him, like
I said him, Rod Babers, Quinn Jammer. I'll see, those
were the veterans.
Speaker 5 (52:42):
You know.
Speaker 8 (52:42):
I was a baby. I was a freshman. I obted
their senior and junior years. So they helped mold me.
And like I said, I wouldn't be here without them today,
and really everybody from one to five. So I appreciate everybody.
And it's kind of like all of us fun in
So I'm just becining to represent Texas.
Speaker 2 (52:57):
Send me, send me a picture of you with that
goal had on you look you look good this year
with that goal.
Speaker 3 (53:02):
Hat on.
Speaker 8 (53:05):
The Still, I know what they told me. They just
handed me the trophy and they're like, go hand it
to somebody. I was like, there's no instructions, there's no
like the first thing I do is I go, I
go find sark I was okay, sorry, here take hits
and then we'll go from there.
Speaker 3 (53:18):
Love it, love it man.
Speaker 1 (53:19):
Well, congratulations on all the success, and congratulations on mentoring
so many of those young kids that definitely need a mentor.
And make sure you keep put parking your cars outside
the stadium for them recruits so they can have some goals.
Speaker 2 (53:35):
Like I said, you cannot hide money.
Speaker 8 (53:40):
We'll worked hard for.
Speaker 3 (53:41):
It, no doubt, no doubt. Appreciate you, Mike, have a
good one.
Speaker 8 (53:44):
Man, all right, thank you, all all right.
Speaker 1 (53:46):
Michael Huff College Football Hall of Famer and of course
thor forward winner and just an all around great guy.
Speaker 3 (53:53):
Yeah, man, appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (53:54):
Coming up next and Parker Coleman, now she breaks it
down high school football and of course this game right
here on the Morning Kickoff on sports Radio AM thirteen
hundred The Zone. Welcome back to the morning kickoff right
here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.
Speaker 3 (54:10):
Great interview with our.
Speaker 1 (54:11):
Guy, Michael Hubb college Football Hall of Famer.
Speaker 3 (54:14):
And now we transition.
Speaker 1 (54:16):
It's Friday, so that can only mean one thing and
Parker in Parker Coleman of Kview joins us to talk
all things high school football, and of course this big
matchup between the Texas Longhorns and the Arkansas Razorbacks.
Speaker 3 (54:32):
Good morning, how are you ap? You are muted? You're muted,
still muted.
Speaker 2 (54:40):
Yeah, she'll be right there once she realized that did
you wave at her?
Speaker 3 (54:44):
I did? I did? I did.
Speaker 6 (54:49):
Well.
Speaker 1 (54:49):
The one thing that is the one thing that is true.
That ring is bling blinging in my face. Again, she
stays with that, still muted. She did say she was
having some computer issues this morning, so we might we
might just give her a call here in just a second,
(55:09):
you know what, Marcus, Let's do that here.
Speaker 3 (55:12):
Let me give you all Oh, are you good? Nope,
she's not there.
Speaker 1 (55:16):
All right, We're gonna continue these conversations because this is
the uh, the matchup that we've had this weekend. We
talked a lot about the Texas Longhorns and what they
have going on against Arkansas. We also had an opportunity
to talk high school football because this is a big
week in high school football, big games that are being
(55:37):
had all the time with high school football. Conley is
still in the game in the matchups. Vista Ridge not
Vista Ridge, Was it Vista Ridge? Vandergriff was playing and
everything else was going on. So last night you got
a chance to go to a big time matchup.
Speaker 3 (55:58):
And what happened last night.
Speaker 12 (56:01):
Guys, a lot of football that happened over a long.
Speaker 5 (56:04):
Period of time.
Speaker 12 (56:06):
I went to Vandergriff. They were playing in Texas State,
and I got there and it.
Speaker 5 (56:12):
Wasn't it wasn't boring John.
Speaker 12 (56:14):
Rain at first, you know, light drizzle and then got
a little heavier and then I felt the fattest rain
drops I had felt in a really long time.
Speaker 5 (56:21):
But you know what tired of Vandergriff.
Speaker 3 (56:24):
They were still having fun.
Speaker 5 (56:25):
Did not hold them back at all.
Speaker 12 (56:27):
Their crews to his thirty seven seven victory, and they
probably needed that after what was such a close win
over Westlake.
Speaker 5 (56:37):
And the thing that I loved.
Speaker 12 (56:39):
About last night is this guys that hadn't really contributed
that much that really stepped up last night. Guy named
Evan Williamson had scored three touchdowns last night, since or
before then, he had only had ten carries, no touchdowns,
so he just went off.
Speaker 5 (56:55):
And I want to give the shout.
Speaker 12 (56:56):
Out to Wylie Olsen as then commit kicker forty four
yarder last night.
Speaker 3 (57:02):
Absolutely insane. Wow in the rain.
Speaker 12 (57:06):
You know, I'm not sure if it was raining at
that point, but it was raining all nights.
Speaker 5 (57:11):
That's also pretty flag And yeah, and you know what, gosh.
Speaker 12 (57:16):
Even the best of conditions, when you're there, they're college guys, they're.
Speaker 5 (57:21):
NFL guys that can miss a forty four yarder. For
you to do that at what seventeen eighteen years old,
that's that's pretty impressives, no doubt about it.
Speaker 1 (57:28):
Another big matchup tonight is Huddo versus San Antonio Johnson.
This is a big time matchup for the Huddle Hippos.
They have been I guess you could call them the
cardiac Huddle Hippos because yeah, they take every game to
the final play and they.
Speaker 3 (57:45):
Got to arrive.
Speaker 1 (57:46):
Yeah, and they are ready against San Antonio Johnson.
Speaker 12 (57:51):
Yeah, this is the game that I'll be going to
tonight and I will make sure.
Speaker 5 (57:54):
To bring extra rain gear because this when I learned
my lesson last night. I wasn't listening to our web
man Hunter Williams, but ido, you're a cardiac.
Speaker 12 (58:04):
Guys like gosh, last week against against Bowie had to
stop them on fourth and seventeen on their own twenty
nine to get the victory, and you're taking on a
Johnson team that's really good. They got a talented quarterback,
high out, tane offense. I think it's gonna be a
really really high scoring game, and similar to how had
(58:24):
always been playing, it's probably gonna come down to the wire.
Speaker 1 (58:27):
And Dripping Springs will take on San Antonio o'harlan. You
have Liberty Hill taking on Brinham, a lot of good teams,
and you still have Connolly that is playing this weekend
as well, so there's a lot of action. Wiss is
still in the playoffs, a lot of local teams and
the Flugerville Panthers are still in it. So there's a
(58:47):
lot of local teams that are still in the high
school playoffs.
Speaker 3 (58:53):
MS Park I'll be gay too, Yeah, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (58:56):
Anderson ceed A Park, Plugerville is on and on lamp passes.
I mean there's still a lot of teams that are
advancing to the next rounds.
Speaker 5 (59:09):
Yeah. Absolutely.
Speaker 12 (59:10):
You know, in this state, Jallas and Houston, I feel
I always get all glove and for the most part,
it makes.
Speaker 5 (59:17):
Sense to bring home a lot of trophies.
Speaker 12 (59:19):
But Austin is an area that has a lot of
talent that I feel like doesn't get talked about enough.
And that's just because at the end of the day,
there's two other cities. Well they're the ones that bring
home the hardware.
Speaker 5 (59:32):
But I mean, look at Vandergriff, at the school that.
Speaker 12 (59:35):
Hasn't been around what maybe like ten years and not
a very long time at all, and they already have
a state championship and now you know they move on
to another round.
Speaker 5 (59:42):
So get more respect for the Austin schools. It's a
long list of some schools.
Speaker 3 (59:47):
That can make runs.
Speaker 2 (59:49):
That's miss Parker, That's exactly what I was going to
ask you. Is this not only Vandergriff, but what other
teams have a legit chance and you really think, okay,
they can win the state championship.
Speaker 12 (01:00:03):
Gosh, I would do dripping springs. They have been dominant
all week and earth all week. They've been dominant all year.
They've taken down teams like they took down Vandergrift, they
took down Westlake, and now they're taking on a Harlan
team from San Antonio that eliminated them.
Speaker 5 (01:00:22):
In this very round last year. And it wasn't a
close team.
Speaker 8 (01:00:25):
They got blown out.
Speaker 3 (01:00:26):
I think it's.
Speaker 5 (01:00:27):
Fifty five to twenty four. So first of all, they're talented,
they can get the job done.
Speaker 12 (01:00:32):
But when you're playing with a little revenge mindset too,
I think that is going to.
Speaker 5 (01:00:36):
Be really interesting game.
Speaker 12 (01:00:37):
I think they have the potential to really go far,
maybe win it all.
Speaker 3 (01:00:41):
Aype, I wanted to ask.
Speaker 1 (01:00:42):
You this because we're going to transition to college football obviously,
the Texas Longhorns getting ready to play a rival in Arkansas,
the Razorbacks are coming in. They're a team that don't
show up on the victory column, but they are a
tough football team. But yesterday coach Sark was adamant about
I'm staying there.
Speaker 3 (01:01:03):
I'm tired of the rumors.
Speaker 1 (01:01:05):
What has been your whole thought about all of this
nonsense that's been going on in the last couple of weeks.
Speaker 8 (01:01:13):
Yeah, it is.
Speaker 12 (01:01:15):
It's so wild for start to have now two times
where he's had to address this because and he needed
to because these really big influential reporters like Howered from
College Game Day and then Diana Rassini a couple of
weeks ago saying that he is get to move on,
maybe go to the NFL, maybe take that Titan's job,
Like you need to address that your.
Speaker 5 (01:01:37):
Locker room is listening, your recruits are listening to.
Speaker 12 (01:01:41):
Those kind of people. Starting day is coming up. And
that's pretty much what he said yesterday.
Speaker 5 (01:01:47):
Is part of the reason why.
Speaker 12 (01:01:48):
He felt like he had to say something is because
other teams will take advantage that they will camper with
your roster and with your commit because oh, he's leaving,
like really want to go go play for a team
that's rebuilding and going.
Speaker 5 (01:02:04):
Through a coaching search. But I my take on it.
Speaker 12 (01:02:08):
Also is just like when you're addressing it head on,
like that, it's one thing that somebody.
Speaker 5 (01:02:13):
Asks you when you're confronted and you have to answer.
But Sark has been very upfront and honest with.
Speaker 12 (01:02:19):
This when he has not had to be. There's nobody
making it if he was going to take another job,
like oh gosh, he didn't have to say anything. But
he's every single time just been straight up and said
that he's he's not going anywhere.
Speaker 5 (01:02:32):
So I tend.
Speaker 12 (01:02:32):
To take somebody at their word. And the other thing
that I help or that I think helps with this
is the fact that the.
Speaker 5 (01:02:40):
Money involves with it. It ain't cheat for Stark to leave.
If he leaves before twenty twenty six, he would.
Speaker 12 (01:02:46):
Owe text this ten million dollars. That number one would
drop to six million if you left.
Speaker 5 (01:02:52):
After twenty twenty six, but six million, it's still six million,
Like that is a lot of money.
Speaker 8 (01:02:57):
So I don't think you going anywhere.
Speaker 3 (01:02:59):
But yeah, yeah, we're glad.
Speaker 1 (01:03:02):
That he's been addressing it, and he's been emphatic about
it too.
Speaker 3 (01:03:05):
But uh, he.
Speaker 1 (01:03:06):
Needed to address it because he said there's been people
around trying to get all his players, so he's had
to make those adjustments too. So we'll see what happens
tomorrow and h see what happens the rest of the
next two games and see where Texas ends up.
Speaker 8 (01:03:23):
Yeah, and the and the other thing.
Speaker 5 (01:03:25):
When he's talking about all this too, like this isn't.
Speaker 12 (01:03:28):
A guy who's just talking just.
Speaker 5 (01:03:31):
To to say it, just to say that he's not leaving.
Speaker 12 (01:03:34):
He's been pissed off, like he pretty.
Speaker 5 (01:03:37):
Much told this Howard yesterday, Like gosh.
Speaker 12 (01:03:39):
Like really, like you can't just take out the trash
without having to start.
Speaker 3 (01:03:43):
A rumor and.
Speaker 5 (01:03:44):
Say that, oh, I think.
Speaker 12 (01:03:46):
Stark is gonna leave Texas When I just blost that
to the world.
Speaker 5 (01:03:49):
This is not a guy. If you listen to this quote.
What he says in the way that he.
Speaker 12 (01:03:54):
Says that this is not a guy.
Speaker 5 (01:03:56):
Who is who is is just saying that he's not
lead to cover his tracks like this is a guy.
Speaker 12 (01:04:02):
Who is staying is pissed off if people.
Speaker 5 (01:04:05):
Are saying this and is really angry that there's really
no validation to any of it.
Speaker 3 (01:04:10):
No doubt, no doubt, there she is.
Speaker 1 (01:04:12):
And Parker Coleman, make sure you take enough rain gear
tonight just in case.
Speaker 3 (01:04:18):
Umbrella absolutely.
Speaker 5 (01:04:21):
Have funpants.
Speaker 3 (01:04:23):
Got it cover the guy.
Speaker 5 (01:04:25):
It got me last night.
Speaker 12 (01:04:26):
Guys, I think it's having computer issues is because my
laptop was in my book bag on the sidelines and
it got sod oh man, well listening, put put the
computer in the plastic bag, which is that, Jeff, don't listen.
Speaker 3 (01:04:41):
Don't listen to that. Jeff.
Speaker 5 (01:04:42):
Yeah, we're gonna put a trash bag over this on
this time.
Speaker 1 (01:04:45):
No doubt, there she is, AP and Parker Coleman, you
can watch your own caveew Friday Night Fever. It's tonight
and of course you'll get all the action tomorrow on Cave.
Speaker 3 (01:04:55):
You appreciate you.
Speaker 5 (01:04:58):
Take care.
Speaker 1 (01:05:00):
There she goes, Ann Parker Colma coming up next, we
got the world's strongest man bringing you his world's strongest
take right here on the morning kickoff on Sports Radio
A thirteen hundred the Zone.
Speaker 3 (01:05:09):
That's what I do. W W Hall of.
Speaker 1 (01:05:12):
Famer and world's strongest Man, Mark Henry brings you his
world's strongest take.
Speaker 3 (01:05:18):
Take it away, big fellow, park you know what the time?
Speaker 2 (01:05:21):
And then what Thomas it It's time for the world's
strongest take by the world's strongest man. My guess back
then they didn't know me.
Speaker 3 (01:05:32):
Now I'm hot. They all on me.
Speaker 2 (01:05:34):
Guys.
Speaker 3 (01:05:35):
Oh man, I got in my bag yesterday.
Speaker 2 (01:05:40):
You know how excited I get when it comes to
recruiting and the University of Texas women's basketball. It is
no secret, is no secret that I am a fan
and hard. You you enlightened me to something. I thought
that Madison Booker was going to be gone this year too,
(01:06:01):
and you said, no, no, oh a big fella.
Speaker 3 (01:06:03):
She's a junior. She'll be back next year.
Speaker 2 (01:06:07):
With mss Crump coming back next year, they're going to
be a formidable team with all of the other players.
They're not They're not losing a lot. I was thinking
that we were going to lose it lose it all,
especially when I when I heard about the recruiting, Texas
(01:06:27):
got commitments and signed Addison Bourne and Brianna Crittenton. Both
of these players are ranked in the top ten. Going
and looking at their film and what style of player
that they're ballers and just so y'all know, Brionna Crittinton
(01:06:50):
has dunked in the game multiple times. Six three power
forward small forward, can play every position on the court,
a dominant player, number eight overall ranked and could be
ranked higher than that, but she plays on a good
team and she doesn't shoot a lot relatively. The one
(01:07:15):
that I was really excited about was Lizzie Splait, the
point guard, five to seven point guard. All I can
say is Kyrie Irving God, sham God.
Speaker 3 (01:07:28):
For those that know dribbling.
Speaker 2 (01:07:31):
She can dribble in rush hour traffic in New York
and not hit nobody and has a past first mentality,
but can score and shoots above forty five percent from three.
Amelia Hugging five to nine guard, very versatile, but a
(01:07:55):
bulldog is the way that her coach described her.
Speaker 3 (01:07:59):
She's a bulldog.
Speaker 2 (01:08:00):
She's always the one that is breaking up the fight
or starting to fight. I love that that's four players
that will be coming to the University of Texas women's
basketball next season, to add with Miss Crump and to
add with old Acre, to add with Madison Booker and
(01:08:25):
all of the unbelievable talent that they already have.
Speaker 3 (01:08:28):
Hard We'll say.
Speaker 1 (01:08:29):
You now, it's a big time recruiting class for the
University of Texas, transformed transforming recruiting class for the University
of Texas, and it is something that the Gino ari
Emas and those types of coaches were doing at Connecticut,
and what Texas is trying to build here at this
university is truly trying to change the game of basketball,
(01:08:52):
and he's getting different types of.
Speaker 3 (01:08:54):
Players to fit the mold of what he's trying to get.
Speaker 1 (01:08:58):
She's already been on campus already, born is she was
there this morning. They've already posted pictures of her being
here and giving the team hugs. So it's like, I'm here,
we here, let's make this thing happen. So believe what's
happening with this team. Great stuff by the World's Strongest Man.
Coming up next, we'll close out the show. Send you
(01:09:18):
to Dan Patrick NFL games this weekends. We're looking at
not just the ones that we are entertainment purposes only
wagering on, but we also got some special starters as well,
right here on the morning kickoff on sports Radio AM
thirteen hundred The Zone.
Speaker 3 (01:09:34):
What a great week of shows.
Speaker 1 (01:09:36):
If you missed any parts of the shows, all you
got to do is get over to the podcast page
wherever you get your podcasts where, preferably on the always
free iHeartRadio app. We had guests all week long, and
today's guests we had Michael Huff. He will be represented
and recognized tomorrow at Texas versus Arkansas. He will be
(01:09:59):
inducted officially inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame
in a couple of weeks.
Speaker 3 (01:10:05):
What a great, great ceremony.
Speaker 1 (01:10:07):
He's already royalty, but now he will be immortalized forever,
an enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame. We
also got a chance to talk to Anne Parker Coleman
to break it down. And I want to give a
shout out to my guy Rosh from Spinners and sipp
and Smash Social. He came in with his turkey legs
and let's just say leg man man, listen, I showed
(01:10:32):
him mind. Yeah, that was before you ate it. I
don't want them to see what I grazed over.
Speaker 3 (01:10:38):
You didn't grade, that's not raised. That was a massacre. Listen,
I haven't seen wars that didn't look that tragic. Wow.
Speaker 2 (01:10:50):
Hey, that's just breakfast. That's just for breakfast. I'm going
to tell you, I'm very enjoyed it. Yeah, I mean
this is probably the best turkey leg I've had in
a while.
Speaker 3 (01:11:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:11:00):
And you said that multiple times, and I've had as
you was eating it, you kept finding different ways to
express your joy of the turkey log.
Speaker 2 (01:11:12):
I'm always looking for special things, Like we talked about
turkey leg, was looking for food I looked.
Speaker 3 (01:11:20):
But when we were going we were going.
Speaker 2 (01:11:22):
To Dallas a week before, I was talking about the
turkey leg right, correct, And then we get the state
fair folk, that's a state fair turkey leg, twenty nine dollars.
It's good, but it wasn't even cooked all the way
to the bone.
Speaker 3 (01:11:37):
Correct. And I was like, man, this is.
Speaker 2 (01:11:39):
Tragic because I don't have somewhere where I could go
and put it in the oven.
Speaker 6 (01:11:43):
Right.
Speaker 2 (01:11:45):
But this, this turkey leg is everything that you wanted
to be. So, guys, if you're in Austin and you're saying,
you know what, man, I'm gonna see what are you
talking about? Come hang out with me today at noon
because I'm going out there. Yeah, and I'm gonna drop
off some toys for the toy drive because I want
kids to have a great Christmas.
Speaker 3 (01:12:07):
You know, my kids are spoiled, rotten. They so blessed.
Speaker 2 (01:12:11):
You know, God has really blessed us, and let's be
a blessing to some other people.
Speaker 3 (01:12:16):
Guys, no doubt, no doubt, they do this often.
Speaker 1 (01:12:19):
So we will definitely continue to promote and try to
get other people to donate their time and of course
the toys.
Speaker 3 (01:12:28):
But I want to.
Speaker 1 (01:12:29):
Get into this because this weekend we get a chance
to see Joe Burrow back on to the football field.
He is a guy that we.
Speaker 3 (01:12:35):
Were talking to. Breathe on him.
Speaker 1 (01:12:37):
Yeah, he is often injured, but he is a guy
that has put up big numbers with his time in
the NFL. And we also have a big first time
start for one Chardure Sanders. Shadur Standards is getting his
first NFL start. He's been waiting for this moment. A
lot of folks in Cleveland have been please, this is
(01:13:02):
for you, but one of his offensive linemen was talking
about what it sounded like when Shador came into the
game on Sunday.
Speaker 6 (01:13:12):
Well, the first play, I was like, I was like, hey,
make sure you quite the crowd down. And then I
watched the replay he was hyping him up and I
was like, well, I can't really hear here, but you know,
it was it was, you know, his moment to play.
But I think as the game got on, you know,
there was a couple of moments where he was getting
really you know, excited, and those moments are important, but
(01:13:33):
like there's a fine line of like great energy and like, hey,
let's get the next play call in, you know, And
so I think he'll.
Speaker 3 (01:13:40):
Understand that as he goes.
Speaker 6 (01:13:41):
But you know, when you're in that moment, he's kind
of just playing off feelings, and those were kind of
the moments that he was he was playing with.
Speaker 1 (01:13:47):
And of course Chador got a chance to talk about
the confidence that he has as he's getting his first
NFL start.
Speaker 3 (01:13:55):
For instance, I have a.
Speaker 5 (01:13:57):
Lot of expectations, didn't hope, and I would be doing
a disservice to myself and disservice to the organization.
Speaker 3 (01:14:05):
If I didn't feel like I am the guy. You know,
I like pressure and light.
Speaker 5 (01:14:11):
I'm just excited for everything, So you know, I feel
like I'm the guy. Know I'm the guy. But you know.
Speaker 1 (01:14:17):
You just have to be able to see the game's
that's a good point right there. He just watchs, don't speak,
see what happens. Go out there and perform at a
high level. Do the things that you have been blessed
to do, and some of the haters, they will have
their reasons to say he's not the guy. Yeah, then
there will be some people that are looking at him
(01:14:38):
and say he is the guy. But no matter what,
he is officially getting his opportunity. As much as he's
been buried on that that depth chart the most that
the coach doesn't even want him out there, it seems
now he's getting his opportunity to play in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (01:14:56):
He has zero rips with that starting unit in the
last three weeks, and the only reason that he got
reps a month ago was because they were trying to
decide on whether or not they were going to keep
all those quarterbacks and they wanted to see what he
looked like at practice with the first unit.
Speaker 3 (01:15:15):
That was just a few.
Speaker 2 (01:15:16):
Plays like five or six played, right, that's not practice,
that's an opportunity.
Speaker 3 (01:15:21):
Yep. So now having.
Speaker 2 (01:15:23):
A whole week of I'm the guy, I'm practicing, getting
the timing down, and I want to see what he
looks like. And with a week nevertheless, you know, let's
see what this whole off season looks like.
Speaker 11 (01:15:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:15:35):
Well, for me, it's just now the noise whatever it's
going to be. And we've heard start talk about it
all week long about shutting down the outside noise. Now
the noise is really going to be loud. Now everybody
that hates him is coming from him. Everybody's watching that
game more intently than their own team's game because hate
(01:16:00):
is gonna be out there. Make sure you make your
plans to be down at Bevo Boulevard.
Speaker 3 (01:16:04):
You only got two more chances left.
Speaker 1 (01:16:06):
Get down to Bevoue Boulevard tomorrow morning. We will kick
everything off at eleven thirty from the winship circle right
there by Big Berta, myself, Mark Henry, and Eric Henry
of Horns two four seven will be holding it down.
Speaker 3 (01:16:22):

Speaker 1 (01:16:24):

in to the morning kickoff and of course leading into
the game Texas versus Arkansas two thirty making things happen
for Mark Henry.
Speaker 3 (01:16:40):
For Marcus, I'm hardball hard. Make sure you.
Speaker 1 (01:16:42):

two to five pm with the voice.
Speaker 3 (01:16:48):

Speaker 1 (01:16:51):

even salt looks like sugar.
Speaker 3 (01:16:56):

Speaker 9 (01:17:00):
Yeah,
