(01:53):
right now to recognize those that have been affected greatly
by the storms that have swept through the Hill Country
and the Central Texas area. We think it's important for
everyone to understand that we are aware of all those
that have lost people. It was a very very very sad,

(02:15):
sad situation that happened over the weekend.

Speaker 3 (02:18):
Camp Mystic.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
Is something that has been around for a very long time.
It has changed a lot of people's lives. Those young ladies,
those little girls that were lost their lives and the
people that were around there, not just there, but in Hunt, Texas.
And we have put up posted up on social media
a link you can get over to Harball hard on

(02:42):
x and we have left a link where if you
wanted to donate something or money or clothing nonperishable. There's
some places that here in town that are helping, and
one of those are the great folks over at COVID Beacas.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
You know they have the COVID Cares deal and you
know guys the disaster Leaf Relief site. You can call
them or you can go there. Live is sixteen to
five or one sweet Water Village Drive, Austin, Texas, seven
eighty seven three eight uh like the like Hart said,

(03:21):
you know, parish non perishable items, hygiene items, clean supplies,
trash bags, broom shovels, whatever it is God moves your
heart to take out there. All of these items are
going to go straight to the Salvation Army Distribution UH
to aid those people.

Speaker 3 (03:40):
And you also can go to their uh at at at.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
COVID Cadillac B Cave and the donations will be taken
all the way through Tuesday, so you got plenty of time,
but you know, there's no time like the present.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
Yeah, it's a it's a really, really tough, tough situation.
And I was talking to some people yesterday that have
had friends and relatives that are handling this and being
a part of this, and there's no way around it.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
It's a disaster.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
If you see four inches of water and you say, oh,
I could drive my car through that, guys, you can't.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
Don't do it.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
The water is rushing at such a rate that's going
to push your car off into a ravine, a river,
off a cliff, whatever it is. Like, don't test it, please,
And I mean unless you're in an ambulance or a
fire truck where they have beneath those big vehicles, they
have like three thousand pounds skid plates to help anchor them.

(04:47):
That's why you can see a fire truck go through it, right,
They're designed to be able to go through it.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
Yeah, your car is not there is not designed to
do any of that. And you know, we all we're
all guilty at some point of thinking, oh man, it's
not that bad.

Speaker 3 (05:04):
I can make it. I can make it, and you can't.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
Don't put don't don't risk putting someone else's life in
danger because you believe that you can do it. Because
now not only are you causing yourself danger, you're causing
the people that are coming, well, they are coming to
save you too. So I mean, they say it, turn around,

(05:29):
don't drown. It's really that type of situation. And again,
I'm not a weather man.

Speaker 3 (05:36):
I'm not a weather man. I'm not that person.

Speaker 1 (05:39):
But this is, this is overwhelming, and it seemed like
it happened in a matter of time. And the disappointing
part because everybody's like the system failed. Listen, the problem
is it happened at night. It happened at night. You
can't see and if you're at a camping site and
I saw a friend of mine, I'm my neighbor.

Speaker 3 (06:01):
She posted that she works.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
She worked at all of these camps growing up in
different parts of the country. And it's the innocence of
being where it's dark. You can't see it, you can't
hear it, you don't know what truly is happening. And
if you believe that, oh I can't hear the water.
You don't understand how those right. It's coming and there's

(06:25):
videos all over the place.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
But the houses like I mean completely gone, just concrete
and slab.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
Yep, there's nothing left. No, it's awful, it's awful. So
we pray for all those that have been affected. Get
over to AM thirteen hundred zone, get over to iHeartRadio,
and I posted on at Harball Haard the link for
any donation that is available. Mark just told you about

(06:53):
getting over to Covert in Bcave. I'll be telling you
about another COVIDT in the next hour about where if
you live up north, then you want to donate as well, because,
as he said, Covert does care and both of those
companies or that company works with us a lot, and
so it's good that we're partnered with good people that

(07:15):
are doing amazing things out there. Also wanted to touch
on this get back to.

Speaker 3 (07:21):
The sports aspect of it. Last night in soccer.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
USA, USA loses to Mexico two to one. They played
a sloppy game, but nothing. You can't take it away
from Mexico and what they were able to do. This
was done in Houston at NRG. So now you start
to look and say all right, Now we get ready
for the big, big tournament for Texas for a USA team.

(07:52):
They're going to find a way to get everybody else
back back to playing. There was no Polistic, there was
no Raya, there were Raina, there was none of the
big time players. But some of these guys got a
chance to perform in front of the new coach. And
now we will see what's going to happen moving forward.
We will also today be talking about the Houston Astros.

(08:15):
And since we're talking about Houston, Durant to the Rockets,
Mark it is official now and it was a seven
team trade. Seven teams were involved into this trade for
them to be able to get this thing officially done.

Speaker 3 (08:33):
Never before done.

Speaker 1 (08:34):
Never teams seven seven teams who made out the worst?

Speaker 3 (08:41):
Now everybody knows who made out the best.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
YEP, I mean, Kevin Durant is the prize in the
whole deal.

Speaker 3 (08:49):
And you know Phoenix, you know they they got. I
still believe Phoenix won.

Speaker 1 (08:54):
I still believe that the upside And there was a
report that came out that I don't think it's real,
so I'm not going to really divulge into it. But
the story came out that E may Adokah was texting
Jalen Green's baby mama, And that's why Jalen Green went
out and played the way he played in the playoffs

(09:16):
because he was dealing with the emotion of that. Do
you remember that playoff series against Boston when Cleveland and
Lebron found out that Delonte West was hollering at his
mom and Lebron.

Speaker 3 (09:29):
Holler, that's what we're doing.

Speaker 2 (09:32):
Now, I'm just the whole context.

Speaker 3 (09:37):
Oh hey, hey, ms Podker like, no, he was doing
more than hollering.

Speaker 1 (09:46):
Well, he's homeless, allegedly allegedly, allegedly, we're going in alleged well,
allegedly e may Adoka was. They were having a tough
conversation all the time because e may was trying to
holler at Jalen Green. I don't believe that. I please
don't be true.

Speaker 3 (10:04):
I don't believe that.

Speaker 4 (10:05):
Please don't be true, because I don't need another email
DOCA controversy.

Speaker 3 (10:10):
Because he is.

Speaker 1 (10:12):
And he just got an extension on this on his
contract to be the head coach for the for the
Houston Rockets. So now you got kd you get.

Speaker 2 (10:26):
Her number anyway, how you get another dude's woman number
I'm I'm just curious, like group chet. Yeah, okay, be
careful who you wi exactly exactly, not with you, not

(10:46):
with you.

Speaker 3 (10:47):
Like Jacob said, they for the street, but our.

Speaker 1 (10:53):
Yeah that she liked both ours. My dad come over here,
gets it's like both just keep it at my house.
But yeah, so there's a lot that goes there. But
I still believe looking at this trade, I believe that
Phoenix won on this one, and I believe it's because
of the upside Kevin Durant, He's gonna be Kevin Durant,

(11:14):
He's gonna put up his numbers. But in the big scheme,
I still believe that that Phoenix and Jalen Green is
definitely gonna make things a little bit more exciting. Our
number one, we got a lot to get into. Coming
up next, we want to talk a little bit about
what happened as Texas recruitment might have dodged a bullet

(11:35):
and I'll tell you why right here on the Morning
Kickoff on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Welcome
back to the morning kickoff right here on Sports Radio
AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Coming up in the next segment,
I will do the hard Knox Life, and we'll have
a conversation gambling in sports. Now, if you partake in it,

(11:58):
I get it, I understand it. My cousin does that
as well. But my cousin is at plane, right, So
let's end up talking about that and having a conversation
about that, because somebody is under investigation. If you're shocked
by that, I don't know how. But I wanted to
talk recruiting because everybody wants to talk about how in

(12:21):
the world is this happening in recruiting, Why is Texas
falling off on recruiting, YadA, YadA, YadA. Well over the weekend,
Texas gets a commitment from a blue chip offensive lineman
on Independence Day, John Turntime, the third committed to the
University of Texas. Now that would be a big story

(12:43):
on so many levels, Mark, because when you get a
commitment like that, this is a guy that is going
to turn some heads. He committed to Texas Longhorns over Alabama, Michigan, Stanford,
in Texas, A and M. He's the number the nation's
number four ranked interior offensive lineman in the lone Star States,

(13:05):
number seven over all prospect, and this is by twenty
four to seven Sports. Well, that was not the story
over the weekend. The story over the weekend was a
report that five star offensive tallent tackle Felix Ojo inks
a fully guaranteed, three year, five point one million dollar

(13:30):
revenue sharing deal with Texas Tech. Now we understand that's
what this game has turned into. MO money, Mo money,
mo money. But with MO money comes more problems. And
for coach Stark, I'm gonna take it back to what

(13:50):
Coach Stark said, awhile back and the fact of what
the money looks like.

Speaker 5 (13:57):
I think NIL has been good for the University of Texas.
I think that we've managed it the right way. I
think we're fair with our players. We look at the
value of the player on our roster and where he
might sit, and then we put a number on it,
and it is what it is.

Speaker 6 (14:09):
You were in the NFL, and you were successful in
the NFL, and you saw how a salary cap was managed.

Speaker 3 (14:14):
There's not a whole lot of.

Speaker 7 (14:15):
Coaches across the country who have been able to see
both worlds.

Speaker 5 (14:19):
You got to manage it, and you got to play
the premium on certain things that matter to you as
a program. And that's what we've tried to do. I
feel like so many teams struggle when they don't know
and they're just grab bag and their reactionary instead of
forward thinking. And we try to be forward thinking to
make sure that we got the right nucleus of people
in an organization. You know that old age is simple, right,
never sacrifice character for talent. There's a lot of talented players,

(14:42):
but if you believe in culture, you got to make
sure that you look at the character too.

Speaker 1 (14:50):
Fired And this was long before this deal was finalized. Now, Mark,
this is a rev revenue sharing deal roughly five million dollars,
and the contract pays out seven hundred and seventy five
thousand dollars per year for three years, including incentives. If

(15:13):
the deal is renegotiated, the five star offensive lineman is
set to earn one point two million dollars year one,
one point six million dollars in year two, and two
point one million dollars in year three. Now, don't forget
what they did for Naja Kennedy in softball. She became

(15:36):
the first million dollar athlete on record to play for
the year for Texas Tech. She paid off, got them
to the championship, came up short, because they had to
face Texas three times. But she that was a great
return on investment. She renegotiated her contract, all the great

(15:57):
stuff that goes with it. Now, if that was my son,
we'd be a fool for him not to sign that.
I'm not hating. I'm not hating at all at all.
I get it. DJ, Please, dog, please somehow get yourself

(16:18):
put in that position.

Speaker 2 (16:18):
I want DJ to find them Jack and the beanstalk,
bean jumping bean, go m in the backyard, go listen,
whatever it takes.

Speaker 4 (16:28):
Yeah, exactly, be sitting there like, let me hold a dollar. Yeah,
but hold a dollar.

Speaker 1 (16:35):
But think about this, man, think about this moving forward.
Now we have to go on a whole other level
because that's different tax bracket. You're in a totally different
tax bracket in the life.

Speaker 2 (16:46):
Now, hey, you better pay them taxes. Are you gonna
end up in the You're gonna end up in the pokey.

Speaker 3 (16:52):
But but uncle Sam won't hear does this? Does this?
Is this where we are in college athletics? Now, that's
where we are.

Speaker 2 (17:01):
And and you know what, man like people think, Oh,
it's free money.

Speaker 3 (17:06):
It's not free. There's no such thing as free money.

Speaker 1 (17:08):
He earned that you've earned that and the reason why
you've earned that. And that's why I always get mad
about when people start saying, oh, well, the kids don't
deserve doesn't matter, he earned it.

Speaker 3 (17:19):
There would be no business if the kids weren't playing.
Exactly ahead, say it again.

Speaker 2 (17:25):
There will be no business of football if there was
not players playing. Yeah, and and I hate to sound preachy, Yeah,
preach for him, but give me, give me some give
me some preachers, like I'm I'm dead serious. Like I
was an athlete, harge, And I remember being at the
Olympic Training Center and me and Oscar de la Joya

(17:47):
and different athletes putting our money together just so we
can go get food. When I say poor, I mean poor.

Speaker 3 (17:59):
We don't afford. Oh.

Speaker 2 (18:02):
So it's like, that's what you want, that's what you
want the best. I was the best in America there was.

Speaker 3 (18:10):
I had no peers. But yet I.

Speaker 2 (18:14):
Couldn't take my mom after dinner. I couldn't go take
my mom to a nice estake dinner.

Speaker 3 (18:21):
Wow, So you would rather these people that argue, oh,
athletes need to know they role.

Speaker 2 (18:28):
They getting a free education's ten million dollars and they
don't need to go to college. Mark Cuban didn't go Yeah,
it don't define you. Now, I'm for the kids going
to school and getting an education.

Speaker 3 (18:43):
Speak to him.

Speaker 2 (18:44):
But if you have an opportunity like this one, it
could change your life.

Speaker 3 (18:50):
It could change your generations in our family.

Speaker 2 (18:53):
So I'm for the athletes getting paid the billion dollar
TV deals.

Speaker 3 (19:01):
Run mean my money.

Speaker 1 (19:03):
Okay, Now let me ask you this, let me bring
it back. So this young man has earned this money
because of he put the work in. He's talented, he
has a skill level that you do not right, So
you put yourself in this position to acquire these types
of means. Now, this is that football conversation NFL, Major

(19:27):
League Baseball, NBA. Like right now we're dealing with a
situation with Micah Parsons. You're paying for his future, not
what he did in the past. Correct, That's why Micah
is being able.

Speaker 3 (19:40):
And we'll have a.

Speaker 1 (19:41):
Micah Parsons conversation at closer to the top of the hour.
But in this particular moment, as a young man coming
out of high school, this has turned into a major
league signing bonus. When you get draft, the major league
Draft is coming up. Kids' lives are going to change

(20:02):
financially and career wise because they're gonna get offered X
amount of dollars. This has now become the NFL, I
mean the Major League Baseball Draft.

Speaker 3 (20:13):
Did you hear the.

Speaker 1 (20:14):
Story of Edgecombe that played at Baylor, like.

Speaker 3 (20:18):
He's from the Bahamas?

Speaker 1 (20:20):
Oh yeah, seven he had the seven years off a
generator like his childhood.

Speaker 2 (20:24):
I'm talking about third world problem. This guy he was
crying because he knew that he was going to be
able to take his family out of poverty generationally. Not
the fact that, oh man, I got all this money. No, No,
I'm talking about he can build. He can build a neighborhood. Yeah,

(20:45):
here in America and bring his family here to have
an opportunity that they otherwise would not have ever had.
You have to go take these big gallant jugs the
water process some plants because you don't have running water.
That's what you want people to live. That's the that's listen.

(21:09):
It's gonna be a heavy argument with me when it
comes to that, because I came from that right here
in America, rural salesby Texas, if you stumped on the floor,
dirt would come through the floorboards.

Speaker 3 (21:23):
Poor. So I'm not.

Speaker 2 (21:28):
I'm not on the side of the people arguing about
people getting subsidized for their work and their effort other
than a fifty thousand dollars a year scholarship.

Speaker 3 (21:41):
That's great, but.

Speaker 2 (21:44):
That's great for somebody that already has a life to
have parents that own businesses and you know, are doctors, lawyers.
But for the people that are poverty stricken and don't
have any resource, yeah, run them their money.

Speaker 3 (22:02):
They got it, they got it.

Speaker 1 (22:04):
It's been an interesting time for sure when it comes
to this. Coming up next, Harge Knocks Life, Major League Baseball, NBA, Hockey. Yeah,
we do that, hockey, We do that hockey.

Speaker 3 (22:16):
Button man.

Speaker 1 (22:17):
We got to figure out and put some ground rules
out there. Right here on the Morning Kickoff on Sports
Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Welcome back to the
Morning Kickoff Longhorns Monday edition of the Morning Kickoff right
here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Prayers
out for those that are affected by the floods and
the bad Weather's continuing the rain, so please be careful

(22:40):
around here. Make sure you get over to Harball harje
on social media. There's a link for you to click
on if you want to donate anything, Please feel free.

Speaker 3 (22:50):
Anything helps. At this particular moment.

Speaker 1 (22:53):
Tomorrow, we will have on fuel Skill, the man who
writes the Bible that's right for college football. If you're
watching on social media, here's a picture of it up there.
Phil Steel will be joining us at seven seventeen. At
this time tomorrow, we'll have Joe Cook of Inside Texas,

(23:13):
And to finish out our number one, we'll have Anthony
Williams talking about a camp that he has coming up
that might help some of you younger players and older
find a place to play. We'll talk about it and
educate you on this whole recruiting process. But right now
I want to talk about Major League Baseball and the

(23:34):
Guardians pitcher Luis Ortiz that was placed on leave for possibly.

Speaker 3 (23:40):
Major League betting.

Speaker 1 (23:42):
We've had these conversations before about how players affect what
happens in a lot of these games. Obviously, as you
was talking about just a little bit ago, Mark, the
game is being played by the players.

Speaker 3 (23:56):
We just take our.

Speaker 1 (24:00):
Liberties to participate in activities in which we can place
a wager on just about anything that's going on. Yeah,
you talk about at the NFL kickoff, is it going
to be heads or twelve tails. You can place a
bet on that you will be what will be the
first play? Will it be a run, a pass? If
it's an incompletion, will it be a turnover? You have

(24:23):
so many things that you can place a ranger on
a lot of player prop bets. But I want you
to hear from Jeff Passon as he talks about what
this means for mister Luis Ortiz.

Speaker 8 (24:40):
Pat A little more than a year ago, Tu Kapta Marcano,
who is an infielder for the San Diego Padres, was
banned for life or placing bets on nearly four hundred
Major League Baseball games. And look, in major League Baseball,
there is one rule, and that rule is very simple.
Do not bet on base And if you do bet

(25:01):
on baseball, you face a lifetime band.

Speaker 1 (25:04):
Now think about what happened with Pete Rose. You know
the rules, you knew going into it. You knew going
into it, you cannot place a bet.

Speaker 2 (25:15):
I suggest you take your earnings and start a new career.

Speaker 1 (25:19):
Thank you, and now you and now you have a
chance to be banned because you're gonna try to hit
a five hundred dollars parlay on something like it does
not make sense. You're making millions on top of millions,
and I understand the addiction to competitiveness. That's why they
have that phone number one eight hundred, gambler or you

(25:39):
you've got a problem, you a one hundred.

Speaker 3 (25:42):
That's the site that we want you to go to.
But I want you to hear.

Speaker 1 (25:46):
Now, listen to this, okay, and why this became a
red flag our shun.

Speaker 9 (25:56):
Ra leads.

Speaker 3 (25:58):
It takes him on that it's just a little bit outside.
Just to quote another movie that had something to do
with Cleveland. He threw the ball in the dirt on
the first pitch.

Speaker 1 (26:08):
That means that there might have and it was not
even close mark. That means that it flagged that there
was an un uh what do they call it, unusually
high volume of tickets on a pitch that was going
to be a ball.

Speaker 3 (26:29):
If you're gonna gamble, don't make it obvious. I mean
like he bounced it.

Speaker 1 (26:34):
So they believe, Yes, they believe, and it's happened multiple
times where he's thrown a pitch in the dirt on
a certain number that people have wagered that this would happen.

Speaker 3 (26:47):
Oh wow, So it alerts them.

Speaker 1 (26:50):
Just like in basketball, Johntay Porter who is banned from
NBA because his over under was three something and he
pretended like he got hurt and he took the under,
so he was out of the game, but they had
to honor the bet. Same thing with Malik Beasley that
we played last week.

Speaker 3 (27:11):
This has become more of a trend.

Speaker 1 (27:14):
Remember the NFL player Cavlick Calvin Ridley who was out, yeah,
got suspended for an entire year for placing wagers and
it wasn't even a lot of money. But the fact
still remains. Major League Baseball, It's real simple.

Speaker 3 (27:32):
Don't bet they really been on football?

Speaker 1 (27:35):
Or did he bet on on football? He been on everything.
I mean something he's been on. I'm telling you quarters
I think he is Fantasy league right right. You start
looking at those kind of things. And remember a while back,
Tony Romo was hosting a draft party in a fantasy

(27:58):
draft party in Las Vegas, and they told him he
had he could not do it because of the association.

Speaker 3 (28:08):
Wow, there's so many different things.

Speaker 1 (28:10):
Think about all the people that harass football, baseball, basketball, hockey, boxing,
UFC talking about I had money on you, I drafted
you in my Fantasy league.

Speaker 3 (28:24):
And you are terrible. What like these are the types
of things that now we have created.

Speaker 1 (28:32):
And people want to be like, well, major League Baseball
is in sports are partnered with betting. You're right, they
are partnered. They're receiving a lot of money. But the
thing is they are not allowed to bet. It's a
simple rule. I don't gamble a lot.

Speaker 2 (28:49):
When I say a lot, I mean hardly ever, and
it's usually like I bet you a dollar, right, you
know I'm a joke. But now, yeah, I have agreed
to terms with DraftKings, so there would be some Mark
Henry Draft Kings coming out every very soon. I will

(29:14):
be making these announcements and I want people to support
it because it is something that's not only benefiting me,
but it's benefiting the company.

Speaker 1 (29:24):
Also to say, because it is benefiting one eight hundred gambler.

Speaker 3 (29:29):
But I will be saying, gambler, if you have a problem, yeah,
but you you can.

Speaker 1 (29:37):
Do that for you And I'm not playing, you are
not participating.

Speaker 2 (29:43):
And I'm not affecting the outcome of a game. If
you thank you. That is the whole thing I said
about the steroids when I was competing and I complained
so much because there were people that like I should
have beat them to death, but they they will stay
close off beat me because they were cheating right in

(30:03):
The International Weightlifting Federation allowed it.

Speaker 3 (30:08):
They allowed it. You just go on the movies that
they made about it.

Speaker 2 (30:12):
So you know, gambling and using and performance and answers
that they're equally bad.

Speaker 1 (30:18):
Well, don't forget there was a White Sox scandal. I
remember people were They're being held out of the Hall
of Fame because of them. So understand, Pete Rose, I
was about to say, because of gambling. It's one rule,
don't gamble on basis. Come on now, man, I just

(30:39):
don't get it. Coming up in the next segment, we'll
continue these conversations and as always.

Speaker 3 (30:45):
Micah Parsons, where's my money?

Speaker 7 (30:49):
Man?

Speaker 1 (30:49):
We're gonna find out right here on the Morning Kickoff
on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Welcome back

Speaker 3 (31:29):

Speaker 1 (31:32):
Four is the keyword for you to get a chance
to win a pair of tickets to go see Laney Wilson.
Make sure you're listening to the Craig Way Show right
here on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Craig Way,
the voice of the Texas Longhorns, where you can hear
all Texas Longhorned football game, basketball games, baseball games all

(31:53):
right here on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.
Right now, I wanted to talk about Micah Parsons. Michael
Parsons continues to be one of those guys that always
always is in the conversation everyone is trying to make
a sense of what his paycheck.

Speaker 3 (32:14):
Is going to be.

Speaker 1 (32:15):
We talked about the young man that's going to Texas
Tech and what his money is going to look out.
Look like Michaeh Parsons is trying to get paid as well.
And not only is Michael Parsons trying to get paid,
so is Tyler Smith today.

Speaker 3 (32:29):
With the pass Rusher team here Michael Parsons he's doing
for a new deal.

Speaker 5 (32:33):
Cowboy fans are sitting there wondering when is that going
to get done?

Speaker 3 (32:37):
Yeah, So this is.

Speaker 10 (32:38):
Kind of a relaxed situation. You know, when I talk
to people involved, they're like, look, it's a lull in
the summer right now. Not a lot going on. People
are on vacation. Team Fitchells are out on the beach somewhere.
Once they reconvene for training camp, Dallas will probably lock
in on this a little bit more. Typically they do
their deals late in the calendar, you know, late August,
early September. We've seen that with Ceedee, Lamb Dak Kress
got some of their other big deals. They are dedicated.

(33:00):
You're doing this though, and he's almost a separate situation
than those other two guys we just talked about because
they're in their thirties. There are going on their third contract.
This guy's right in his prime, mid twenties, dangerous players,
so he's going to get a massive number. Just depends
on when they do. It shouldn't be a problem. Cowboy's
got a lot to spend, you. They also got Tyler Smith,
one of the top guards in the NFL, who's eligible
for an extension as well.

Speaker 1 (33:20):
Yeah, they got to make sure that they get both
of those guys locked up. I know at one point
we were talking about the possible trade and what can
happen with that. But if you look at what the
Cowboys have been able to do this offseason, they brought
some guys in that were important to them. Osay Odugazoula,
he is one of the guys that is coming off

(33:41):
of the edge. They brought in Solomon Thomas off the
edge as well, and along with Dante Fowler, two important
pieces that were there. In other news, yesterday, it came
out that Cavante Turpin. Cavante Turpin was someone who was
recent signed by the Cowboys and now Turpin is put

(34:03):
them in a peculiar position because he was arrested over
the weekend and charged with a couple of things that
the Cowboys are going to be looking into, and now
it is going to be a big conversation. He was
unlawfully carrying a weapon. He also had possession of Mary

(34:25):
Jay Haynes, and now they're going to try to figure
out what they're gonna do with that. A lot of
people are looking at Shaddy to find out what his
move is going to be. Cavante Turpin, All Pro Punk returner,
special teamer, has been a big time part of what
the Cowboys were looking into, and now it may open

(34:47):
up some positions for some other players, especially because of
the fact that this is the time that everybody has
been looking for. In this particular moment, the Cowboys are
ready to ma some moves. It is going to be
interesting to see exactly what is going to happen with
those particular moments. So Cowboys are on the clock when

(35:10):
it comes to Micah Parsons, Tyler Smith, and of course
what they're gonna do with Cavante Turpin. Cavante Turpin is
one of those guys that was big in the punt return,
big in kickoff return, but also they would use him
as a slot, use him in the gaps and making
sure that he had his opportunity to touch the football.

(35:33):
One of the biggest things for me though, in this
particular moment is going to be the fact that when
you start looking at duce Vaughn, you look at Jaden Blue,
these might open up those opportunities for those guys to
be used in different ways. I think duce Vaughn is
somebody that could fit that role perfectly, and I truly

(35:56):
wish that he was doing it a lot more, to
be honest with you, because because he is that type
of player, he is an exciting type of role. But
last year they did not give him the opportunity to
be featured in that moment. That's the frustrating part that
I dealt with last year because you have a guy
that has done some amazing things in his career that

(36:19):
did not get a chance to do it at the
next level. So if you're smart and you're looking at
these types of moments, then why wouldn't you give it
a chance for a deuce vond to have his ability,
his opportunity to be on the field to show his
type of abilities. The Cowboys got a lot to talk about,
they got a lot to get into. As I said,

(36:41):
they made moves to bring back people. Javonte Williams is
going to be a big part of the success that
this team has. He's moving forward on the defensive side.
They went out and got Kenneth Murray, who is going
to be a big part of what they're doing. The
draft has been really good for the Cowboys and oh yeah,

(37:02):
they went out and got George Pickens. So there is
a lot of movement within the Cowboys that have an opportunity.
Joe Milton is the biggest move for me, being able
to go out and get a big time backup quarterback
and everybody's like, hars, how do you know he's going
to be big time?

Speaker 3 (37:18):
I'm telling you right now.

Speaker 1 (37:19):
You put a player like that under the wing of
a Dak Prescott, somebody that is a known leader, somebody
that has been through all of the ups and downs
that you can possibly have as an NFL starting quarterback.
His arm is not as big as Joe Milton, but

(37:40):
he's going to be able to teach Joe Milton how
to play the position at a high level. Now I
understand everybody doesn't want to help. I watched a documentary
over the weekend, the Brett Favre documentary. Let me tell
you something, When you get a chance to see something
like that, and you get a chance to appreciate.

Speaker 3 (38:00):
What you have in your quarterback. It tells you everything.

Speaker 1 (38:04):
Yes, Brett Favre won a Super Bowl, Yes he's won MVPs,
He's done all of that. But Brett Favre is a terrible,
terrible person. And I know it's a documentary and there's
always two sides of it. Go watch that documentary on
Brett farv and tell me what you think, and then
come back and tell me about number four for the

(38:26):
Dallas Cowboys and who he is as a person leading
this team. I'm telling you there is no difference. I
much rather have that character than that ring. Well, I
do want to ring though. Cowboys got to.

Speaker 3 (38:39):
Get a ring.

Speaker 1 (38:39):
Our number one is in the book. Our number two
is just around the corner. You'll hear from Mark Henry.
You'll also hear from those that have been affected by
this and the Texas secondary one of the best in
the country.

Speaker 3 (38:56):
I'm not the only one who thinks it.

Speaker 1 (38:58):
Right here on the Morning Kickoff on Radio AM thirteen
hundred The Zone, Welcome back to our number two of
the Morning Kickoff right here on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred,
The zone. We opened the show talking about the flooding
and the losses that were out there, and we gave
you spots for donations and where you need to go
on our social media page as well.

Speaker 3 (39:20):
We also talked.

Speaker 1 (39:21):
About Texas possibly dodging a bullet on a recruit. We
also talked about the investigation gambling in major sports. It
is becoming an issue, and of course we had to
put Micah Parsons and Tyler Smith in the conversation as well.
But right now we wanted to talk a little bit
about the Texas secondary and before we do that, we

(39:42):
want to make sure that you know to get over
to Covert huddo dot com. That's right, Covert huddle dot
com for Covert Huddle is giving away places for you
to come over and give donations. They've also nonperishable items
that the same thing that they're doing for a Covert
b Cave, they're doing the same thing for Covert and Huddle.

(40:05):
The Covits are always giving back to the community. They've
been a part of this community and they too are
saddened by the devastation on which we have witnessed over
the past weekend and it's continuing the rain as it
was this morning, So we need to be careful out there,
and people, please, please please understand if they tell you

(40:25):
don't drive through something, don't drive through something. Were already
being taxed by our efforts, by the fire department, by ems,
everybody's being involved, So let's not put more stress on
the people that are stressing at the highest level right now.
But I wanted to talk Texas secondary because we talk

(40:47):
about this Texas football team, and yes, there was a
lot that was lost in this Texas secondary. And I'm
not a big pro football focus guy, mark, you know,
because the numbers kind of they different sometimes because.

Speaker 3 (41:01):
Math is not always man correct correct.

Speaker 1 (41:04):
But in this particular case, because it is the Texas
football team and their secondary, even losing.

Speaker 3 (41:11):
The Thorpe Award winner, even losing.

Speaker 1 (41:14):
Some of those guys in the back end, there's a
lot of experience there, led by Michael taff and this
may be one of the best secondaries in the country.

Speaker 11 (41:25):
Number one, though, is the Texas Longhorns. Texas has the
number one linebacker unit in the country for me, and
now the number and secondary in the country for me,
which means Texas has pretty easily the best back seven
in college football going in next year, and he's still
have a great defensive line too, headlined by my number
one edge defender in Collin Simmons. But the secondary has
a number four safety in the country in Michael Taff,

(41:46):
my number six corner in the country in Malik Muhammad,
and then at nickel will be junior Jolani McDonald. He
had an eighty nine point one run defense grade last year.
The other safety spies a little upper grabs right now
next to Michael Taff.

Speaker 7 (41:58):
It says a lot about Texas fact that you still
have him as the number one secondary despite losing Jday
Baron first round pick and Andrew mccooba second round pick.
It just says so much about the talent and the
depth of it right the top end, guys like Taff
and Muhammad, the the next wave of guys that they
have coming that you mentioned, like McDonald. That's safety's players
really like it run defense. This Texas team very well

(42:21):
could be the best coverage team in the country again
this season.

Speaker 2 (42:25):
Juday Well, Man, what are we calling him today?

Speaker 1 (42:30):
Man?

Speaker 3 (42:30):
I mean these people don't know.

Speaker 1 (42:31):
I mean, they obviously know who Texas is, but they're
they're not doing their Phonics.

Speaker 2 (42:36):
Listen to New York, Yeah, Los Angeles, Florida, d mooinne iwa.

Speaker 3 (42:43):
His name is.

Speaker 6 (42:44):
Joh Day, not ju Day, not Jogie Johnny Bear. Come
on now, So.

Speaker 1 (42:56):
Who do you think is going to be the one
that's in the back with Michael taff.

Speaker 2 (43:00):
You know what hards that's I was thinking that McDonald
would be the guy that they would kind of move there,
but that's not a force something that I'm I'm seeing
right now. I'm it's up for grafts. They have so
many people that are qualified that I think that it's
going to come down to who.

Speaker 3 (43:21):
The health is. Right.

Speaker 1 (43:23):
Jonah Williams is working his way into it. That's the
young freshman that got a chance to play baseball early
in the season, early in the year, and now he's
working his way with the group in that secondary. But
you also have Derek Williams, the raptor who I am
I'm huge, a huge fan of what he's been able

(43:43):
to do, and whenever he's healthy, he's going to cause
a prober problem out there. You still have Jalen Gilbo
that is going to be out there as well, but
this secondary for them to be recognized as one of
the best, as they said by Lou Jada, by losing
Drew mccouba and him being able to those guys being

(44:05):
able to be impact players in the NFL that have
already during these many camps have been effective, you start
to understand what it was like last year.

Speaker 3 (44:15):
So this year with the experience.

Speaker 1 (44:18):
That a lot of those guys had, like a Jilani McDonald,
they don't even have him in their rankings just yet.
He will be in those has a lot of experience,
Yes he does.

Speaker 3 (44:27):
So he does.

Speaker 2 (44:28):
When when you have a guy that has a lot
of experience, you got to put them in. And he's
a senior, so it's not like that the moment is
going to be too big for him. He's been on
this Texas team now for three seasons and coming up
on this fourth season. So yeah, it might be Gilbo.
We got to see your health and then we'll think

(44:50):
about the freshman. We'll think about Jonah.

Speaker 1 (44:52):
Well, I think Jonah is somebody who's a five star
defensive player that will come and knock your head off,
and he is athletic enough to be able to get
up to speed, to be able to play in this
in this in this league, and for me, when you
start to look at this secondary, it all revolves around
Michael Taff. He's gonna be the one to line everybody up.

Speaker 3 (45:14):
There you go.

Speaker 1 (45:15):
He's gonna be the one to make sure that everybody
knows their roles in this particular moment. But I still
believe that as this secondary goes, Jilani McDonald is going
to be the star of this secondary. Muhammad's gonna get his,
but I believe that Jelani McDonald is going to be
that guard guy that people by the end of the season,

(45:37):
he's gonna be on a lot of those watch lists.

Speaker 2 (45:39):
Well, we also know that that Jonah is locked in.
You saw what he was able to do in baseball,
and he picked the picked stuff up very quickly and
sometimes hard. There are people in sports they just they
just gifted, yep, and he's one of those gifted people.

Speaker 3 (45:57):
If he's got.

Speaker 2 (45:57):
Michael Taff, you know, twenty yards from him going hey
do this here it come, It's coming to you, bru,
it would be hard for me not to see him
getting a nine. But Gilbo has the experience factor, and
you can't teach experience.

Speaker 3 (46:13):
You just gotta keep living.

Speaker 1 (46:15):
And one of the reasons why a secondary can perform
at an elite level.

Speaker 3 (46:19):
Two things.

Speaker 1 (46:19):
Number one, Obviously, you bringing back Dwayne a Kina to
come and help in that secondary be able to work
with those guys with the previous defensive coordinator and secondary's coach.
But not only that, you have the pressure of the
Colin Simmons and Anthony Hill Junior, and you got Trey Moore,
and you got all these different upfront players that are

(46:43):
gonna provide pressure. And if you can get a quarterback
off his rhythm to be able to get back and
drop back and see the field and be able to
get the pass off, it's gonna be difficult, right.

Speaker 3 (46:55):
But if you have those guys.

Speaker 1 (46:57):
Applying that pressure to that quarterback and every scene he's
looking up to be able to try to find a
different wide receiver or trying to get the ball out
of his hand a lot quicker.

Speaker 3 (47:09):
Those are the types of.

Speaker 1 (47:10):
Moments it's gonna be what what can the upfront group
do to help the back end and vice versa. If
you have good coverage, that means that guy is gonna
hold on to the ball a little bit longer than
he wants to, and that's gonna give your defensive linebackers
in your front seven is gonna get an opportunity to

(47:31):
get to the quarterback. So it goes hand in hand.
And that's why you heard them at the very beginning
of the SoundBite they were talking about that's why Texas is.

Speaker 3 (47:39):
Our number one linebacker corps. There.

Speaker 1 (47:42):
We look at them as the number one linebackers in
the country because you got Colin Simmons and you got
Anthony Hill Jr. On preseason All American teams. You got
Michael taff In that back in on a preseason All
American second team.

Speaker 3 (47:56):
They work hand in hand, and you have so much
depth too.

Speaker 2 (47:59):
We talked to about this, you know, a few weeks ago,
about the death of the secondary. Like Kobe Black, not
only can't he play the free safety, but he also
could play the star yep.

Speaker 3 (48:11):
So you got flexibility in a couple of players.

Speaker 2 (48:13):
And I wouldn't be surprised that if you saw Jonah
Williams playing star too.

Speaker 1 (48:17):
Yeah, he looks like he can be one of those
star players. Yeah he can play both like he's gonna
be a star player. But he looked like he can
be that star position player.

Speaker 2 (48:26):
I think that next season in baseball, You're going to
see a bigger, stronger version of him because he is
a freshman.

Speaker 3 (48:33):
He was playing high school last year hard yep.

Speaker 2 (48:36):
And now he's on that training table at the University
of Texas. They're gonna say, hey, man, you need to
eat you know, seven thousand calories a day and pro
and have this much protein and so forth.

Speaker 1 (48:49):
So his diet is going to get better. He's going
to be a bigger man. Another name to pay attention
to before it's all said and done is number twenty three,
Jordan Johnson Rebel. He he made some plays last year
and he was one of the guys that early in
the summer a lot of folks were talking about during
the training camps, during the workouts, he was a guy

(49:10):
that was making strides and he made some plays last
year when he got an opportunity to get onto the field.
This is the one thing about Texas. If you can,
if you can give this team an opportunity to win,
you will play, and you will play early, and you'll
get a lot of opportunities to help this squad as

(49:30):
they move forward. So to me, with this ranking and
how things are starting to shake out, I'm excited about it.
I had a conversation this weekend and they were like, well,
I don't know about Texas and their schedule is this.
I said, look, at the end of the day, I
think everybody has done a good job of being able.

Speaker 3 (49:52):
To keep players around.

Speaker 1 (49:54):
And what I mean by that is the financial growth
of college athletics makes the playing feel a little bit
even a little bit more even it may not financially
to you.

Speaker 3 (50:06):
Look at it, well, Texas has this amount of money.

Speaker 1 (50:08):
This amount of money, but if you have the right
players doing the right things and getting the right amount,
they'll come and play football for you. And these are talented,
talented football players now, so you got to be mold
calf because don't look at the schedule and think, oh,
that's an easy win.

Speaker 3 (50:25):
No, a lot of these will mature. A lot of
people are mature.

Speaker 1 (50:29):
A great conversation right there about the Texas football secondary.
But coming up, we're going to the NFL, and when
I tell you what the AFC East odds are, you
might want to stick around for all that.

Speaker 3 (50:42):
It is kind of crazy. Right here. On a Longhorns.

Speaker 1 (50:45):
Monday edition of The Morning Kickoff on sports Radio AM
thirteen hundred, The Zone, Welcome Back to the morning kickoff
right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred the Z
coming up. In the next segment, we'll have the world's
Strongest Take by the world's strongest man, and mark what
you got for us.

Speaker 3 (51:01):
Buddy Man.

Speaker 2 (51:02):
I really do feel like har is that Cooper Flag
is as good as he is. Cooper Flag, My take is
gonna be about him, Okay, uh, and.

Speaker 3 (51:12):
And the field that he's in.

Speaker 2 (51:14):
This this draft class is gonna be one that we're
gonna talk about in the next five years.

Speaker 3 (51:20):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (51:20):
They have a lot of talent and there's a lot
that uh to be discussed.

Speaker 3 (51:24):
So Okay, you're gonna you don't want to you don't
want to miss that. You don't want to miss it.

Speaker 1 (51:28):
The world's strongest man bringing you his world's strongest take.
But I want to be interested in what he's talking
about when it comes to the a f C East.
We talked about the NFC East last Friday to end
the or excuse me Thursday, two in the week.

Speaker 3 (51:42):
But now it's time to go to the a f C.

Speaker 1 (51:45):
And this is a division for a long time that
has been run by the Buffalo Bills, and it doesn't
look like it's gonna be stopped by the Buffalo Bills
because they continue to find a way to get it done.
They got the m v P in Josh, They've made
some different moves. Josh Allen got married this offseason, so
we got ourselves a different Josh Allen coming into the season.

(52:09):
But you also have the Miami Dolphins.

Speaker 3 (52:11):
You have the New.

Speaker 1 (52:12):
England Patriots with the new coaching staff, and as does
the New York Jets, they too have a new coaching staff.
A lot has been changed when it comes there. So
I'm going to start with the New York Jets. Now,
New York Jets now have Aaron Glenn as their head coach,
no nonsense type of guy. Basically told Aaron Rodgers, you

(52:33):
ain't got to go home, but you can't come back here.
You know what I'm saying, Go do what you got
to do. And Aaron Rodgers end up going to Pittsburgh.
Zach Wilson went to Miami as a backup, and by
the way, he got married to this offseason. And you
now you starting to try to figure out what is
this team going to be like? Well, they go out
and get justin fields. They make some different moves, but

(52:56):
the odds have them as a five and a half
win team. Last year they were five and thirteen or
five and twelve. Excuse me, not a good football team.
They're points per game. They only scored nineteenth, which ranked
them twenty fourth. They've allowed twenty three point eight points

(53:17):
per game, which ranked them twentieth.

Speaker 3 (53:19):
Hence the reason why they were five and twelve.

Speaker 1 (53:22):
With the new quarterback and Justin Fields, with the new
head coach in Aaron Glenn, what is your take on
the New York Jets moving forward.

Speaker 2 (53:32):
I think a lot of the reasons that they see
them only winning five games is because of two reasons.
Number one, the quarterback situation, but I really feel that
Justin Fields is going to show out.

Speaker 3 (53:47):
I think so too.

Speaker 2 (53:48):
And second reason is having a new coach, a new
offensive system, and having getting all those guys activated to
run in a new system. Aaron Glenn is a was
a really really good Pro Bowl Jet And just because
you're a good player don't make you a good coach.

(54:09):
But Aaron Glenn was one of the highly sought coaches
in the entire NFL, and to get an NFL coaching
job kind of bows to the fact that.

Speaker 3 (54:25):
You knew what you were getting when you got this guy.

Speaker 2 (54:29):
And I feel like Aaron is gonna be able to
change some stuff because he's a players coach. Him at Detroit,
that's all they talked about is how they wanted a
coach that can relate to the players what they needed.

Speaker 3 (54:43):
To get stronger and tougher as a unit.

Speaker 2 (54:47):
You think that that's gonna stop on the defensive side
of the ball, No, I mean you saw it.

Speaker 1 (54:52):
He approached Aaron Rodgers, he stepped up. The first thing
is like, hey, are you with us? Are you against us?
Because we we're gonna win without you.

Speaker 3 (55:02):
Like he's a tough dude. Yep.

Speaker 2 (55:04):
So I believe that that that's gonna bode well for
the Jets winning more than five games. I don't see
them winning eight, right right right, But I can see
them winning seven.

Speaker 1 (55:16):
I like Justin Fields. I like what he brings to
the table. Don't forget they have Breis Hall as a
running back. He's he's gonna be outstanding. Aaron Glenn is
gonna run the football because there's they have the ability
to do so. Got some offensive linemen that have come in.
They've done some things that that can help them win.
I take the over as well. Five and a half.

(55:37):
That's that's I think Justin Field. I think Justin Fields
is a little bit better than that. So I would
take over on that five and playing for the Steelers
last year, yeah, so there's gonna be there's gonna be
an opportunity.

Speaker 3 (55:51):
There, so I'll take the over as well.

Speaker 6 (55:54):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (55:54):
The New England Patriots are sitting at eight and a
half wins. Solid football team. They got Mike Vrabel as
their new head coach. They brought in Stefon Diggs mac
Collins as the wide receiving quarter. Yeah, they got some
things that are going on there. The offensive line needs
to be a little bit better. The defense is going

(56:15):
to be solid because of Rabel's mindset. You talk about
Aaron Glenn and what he brings, well, Mike rabels the
same way. But having them at eight and a half wins,
I'll take the over because I think they're gonna be
a lot better.

Speaker 3 (56:29):
I think Drake May.

Speaker 1 (56:30):
Is gonna be a key for them to have success.
I'm not putting them at ten wins. I'm not putting
them at twelve wins, but I do see them at
nine wins. I can put them at nine wins.

Speaker 3 (56:42):
I'll buy into that. I mean, I'll co sign for
that one.

Speaker 1 (56:45):
Yeah, this is going to be a solid football team
going to Miami.

Speaker 3 (56:49):
Look, this is I don't know what to think with
this team. They're making all these knee jerk moves.

Speaker 2 (56:58):
It's so sporadic as hard to say what you really
feel is going to happen because so much has changed
and just a show amount of time.

Speaker 1 (57:06):
Yep, yep. And now you know you got Jalen Ramsey
is gone. But you bring in Minka Fitzpatrick who's younger
and is a tough, tough player, and if you can
put him back in there and him coming into his role,
I think that's going to be a big situation. You
got to at Tagavaloa as the quarterback. You have some

(57:30):
things that are in place. Is Tua ready to take
another step? Is he putting himself in a position of
success this offseason too. It looked like he was just
kicking it the whole time. He looked like he was
having a grandioso old time. But now you start to
understand his relationship with Mike McDaniel, Is it starting to

(57:53):
sour a little bit? Is it something they need a
little bit more from him? He didn't want to wear
the helmet last year, but he did. Okay, then you
got Tyreek Hill. That's a whole nother conversation. He'll just like,
I want the ball, every player trade exactly. It's just
I don't know. I don't know what I think about them.

(58:13):
They are sitting at eight and a half wins. Do
you buy them with? Nine wins? Do you buy them with?

Speaker 3 (58:20):
I would say eight is.

Speaker 2 (58:23):
Right on par, but I would almost I'm almost saying less.

Speaker 3 (58:27):
I might say.

Speaker 1 (58:28):
Seven, Well, you he's seven, that's a big have a
great season. Okay, Okay, I don't know if I'm gonna
put them there. Because of the talent that they have.
They still have Jalen Waddle who is emerging as one
of their go to guys. Darren Waller is back out
of retirement, so he's coming back. Devin a Chain who

(58:51):
was a fantasy gold mine last year. I like what
he brings to the table, But my question is going
to be about that defense. Radley Chubb is there, Mika
Fitzpatrick is there, Jalen Phillips up front, he's nasty, Chop Robinson,
He's gonna be another guy that's gonna be coming off

(59:12):
the edge, and Jordan Phillips is a guy that if
he decides he wants to play, he's he's unstoppable.

Speaker 2 (59:20):
Well, hopefully they have a psychiatrist on staff, yeah, to
get his mind right, because they're gonna need all of
those guys to be turned up and to be locked.

Speaker 1 (59:31):
In final thing. The New England Patriots their team. They're
eleven and a half. That's a lot of wins. Last
year they went thirteen and four. They are the crown
jewel of the AFC East. I don't see them slowing down.
But eleven wins, twelve wins, I'll put him.

Speaker 3 (59:51):
Right at twelve.

Speaker 1 (59:52):
I'll put him right at twelve, So I'll take the
over for them. So I'll take the over on the
Bills at eleven and a half wins. I will take
the over for the Dolphins. I'll have them right at
nine wins, Patriots at nine, and the Jets win at
least six games. I think the bet to if you

(01:00:13):
were to do it for entertainment purposes, it would be
the Jets. That would be the safest bet. With the
Jets going over five and a half wins.

Speaker 2 (01:00:22):
Well, I mean, I see if Patriots winning ten and
eleven games, so I don't see him winning twelve.

Speaker 3 (01:00:29):
Not this season.

Speaker 2 (01:00:31):
This season is gonna be pretty damn tough in that division.

Speaker 1 (01:00:36):
Oh, I can't wait. But you know what I can't
wait for either? What is that the world's Strongest tech?
You hear him, He's got something for you. You do
not want to miss it. As on a long hol
Monday edition of The Morning Kickoff with the World's Strongest
Take coming up next right here on Sports Radio AM
thirteen hundred those are you heard that beat?

Speaker 8 (01:00:56):
Drop?

Speaker 3 (01:00:56):
So it can only mean one thing.

Speaker 1 (01:00:58):
WWE Hall of Fame World's Strongest Man, de Mark Henry
brings you his World's Strongest take.

Speaker 3 (01:01:05):
Take it away, big fella. All right, what's up man?
You know what I'm saying? What Thomas?

Speaker 2 (01:01:09):
It's time for the World's Strongest Take by the world's
strongest man. Becaus back then they didn't know me. Now
I'm hot, they all on me. Today's topic is is
Cooper Flag a guy that you can look at as

(01:01:33):
being the Rookie of the year, the rookie MVP?

Speaker 3 (01:01:39):
Not so fast?

Speaker 2 (01:01:42):
And I say that because as much as I think
that he's gonna be the best player in this draft
by far, coming into his second year, third year, you're
gonna see Cooper Flag be a superstar. But this season,

(01:02:03):
I really feel like Dylan Harper is going to get
a lot of reps in San Antonio. He's going to
get more minutes. His statistics is going to be higher.
As you saw last night vj Edgecomb. That was one game,
but that's kind of his style of play. And I
told you this last year that this he's going to

(01:02:26):
be a better pro than he was in college, kind
of like Michael Jordan was. Like in college, you know,
you can crowd the paint. There's no illegal defense. Like
once you get to the pros, you got free standing,
you got free flowing. Tray Johnson is another guy that
college hindered him from being able to take people off

(01:02:48):
the dribble because of the paint was always clogged. It's
going to open up his shot. And everybody's talking about
the issue with Ace Bailey, you know, being a guy
that you know was critical, but Ayst Bailey is a player.
Like he's played two games and he's had ten rebounds

(01:03:10):
in both games. He had a bad night last night
scoring but going like three for ten or three for eleven.
But your shot is all. Your shot can go up
and down. But when you can get ten rebounds at
powerful a small ford two guard, that's pretty impressive. The

(01:03:32):
guy that is my sleeper is Igor Demmlin. That's gonna
be at the nest. He guys, he's amazing. The game
is going to open up, but he's gonna get starting minutes.

Speaker 3 (01:03:45):
He's gonna play thirty minutes a game. And with Cooper.

Speaker 2 (01:03:49):
Flagg playing behind Trey Johnson, Tray Johnson, Klay Thompson and
the the small forwards that exists there, and he also
is going to play some power forward. They just happen
to have a guy named Anthony Davis that's starting at

(01:04:10):
power forward. So he's not gonna get a lot of
those minutes, okay. So that means that he may have
twenty minutes a game, twenty two minutes a game if
he's lucky, like Dallas has a championship team. You talk
about what your newly found Houston Rockets was able to do.

(01:04:34):
Dallas did the same Oklahoma City a lot. But sticking
to the point, I really do feel like Cooper Flagg,
as good as he is, he will not be the
guy I will take the field against I'm I'm saying
who's going to be the guy? But I just know

(01:04:55):
that they're going to get thirty minutes a game and
he's going to be getting timid between fIF ten and
twenty five a game.

Speaker 3 (01:05:01):
What say you, Well, I'm on the other side of that.

Speaker 1 (01:05:04):
Cooper Flag brought to you by Draft Kings right here
says that Cooper Flag is minus one eighty five to
be the Rookie of the Year, Dylan Harper plus nine hundred,
eight Bailey plus nine fifty, vj. Edgecombe plus twelve hundred,
Trey Johnson twelve hundred, and Conkaneple plus four thousand, along

(01:05:26):
with some other guys. But when you say that he's
not gonna play that much, well not that much, but
twenty twenty five minutes, I think the exact opposite.

Speaker 3 (01:05:35):
I think he's gonna play a lot of.

Speaker 1 (01:05:37):
He's gonna take Clay Thompson is Clay Thompson is old.
Klay Thompson is not the same Klay Thompson that we.

Speaker 3 (01:05:44):
Saw as a splash brother.

Speaker 2 (01:05:45):
So you're gonna delegate Klay Thompson to six man of
the Year.

Speaker 1 (01:05:50):
No, No, he's gonna play. But Cooper Flagg is gonna
start as well. You still have Kyrie that's going to
be out. Cooper Flagg is the number one overall draft pick.

Speaker 3 (01:06:00):
Mark.

Speaker 1 (01:06:00):
You came in here, believe, right before his freshman year
at Duke, and you were like, have you seen what
he been doing to them pros? He been putting it
on their head And he was sixteen seventy, Yes, he
was seventeen. He was seventeen doing that. Now he's mature.
He's played in college, He's done some things differently. I'm

(01:06:23):
not gonna say that he's gonna just dominate the NBA
or those minutes. But he is the number one overall pick,
the brass of the Dallas Mavericks. They gotta reprieve in
life when they got the opportunity to draft Cooper flag
And yes, they may try to bring him alone just

(01:06:45):
a little bit.

Speaker 3 (01:06:47):
But this dude is different. This dude plays different.

Speaker 1 (01:06:50):
Some people say he doesn't do anything outstanding, that's fine,
but he does everything good exactly. He is going to
help your team. He's got some spun. As soon as
he got to Dallas, he went straight to the gym.
We're gonna get a chance to see him play this
week in the Summer League games, and I can't wait
to see what he does bring.

Speaker 3 (01:07:10):
To the table.

Speaker 2 (01:07:12):
I'm not gonna lie to you. Like the thing that
I'm looking forward to the most this week is to
see him play in the summer league game. How crazy
is that hard? This is summer practice.

Speaker 1 (01:07:22):
We're talking about practice, were talking about.

Speaker 3 (01:07:24):
We're gonna get it.

Speaker 1 (01:07:25):
In and I'm excited for it, So I'll be ready
for that. We got a chance to see Carter Bailey
or not Carter Bailey, Carter Bryant for the Spurs.

Speaker 3 (01:07:36):
He did Okay? Was it?

Speaker 1 (01:07:37):
He's still trying to figure it out, talking about I'm
playing against grown man. Yeah, man, get yourself ready, put
on your big boy pants and get it started. Coming up,
We're gonna close out the show and send you to
Dan Patrick. Let me explain something to you. The Houston Astros. Yeah,
as they say, we love La. We'll talk about it

(01:07:58):
when we come back right here the morning kickoff on
sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.

Speaker 3 (01:08:05):
What a great show we've had.

Speaker 1 (01:08:06):
And remember, folks, if you get an opportunity to donate,
follow the link that is on our AM thirteen hundred.
I retweeted it as well. Want to make sure that
we get that out there. Donate what you can. You
can go to Covert in Bkve, you can go to
Covert and Huddo, you can go to all the coverts actually,
and if you want to do some non perishable items,

(01:08:27):
make sure you drop that off because anything helps. I
wanted to get into this conversation before we left. The
Washington Nationals, who used to be the Montreal Expos.

Speaker 3 (01:08:40):
They're in last place right now. So what did they do.

Speaker 1 (01:08:44):
They fired their baseball operations president, Mike Rizzo, and they
fired their manager Dave Martinez, all just yesterday. Well, the
interesting part of the firing is this is the team
in an organization that it has the number one pick
in next week's draft. The draft is.

Speaker 3 (01:09:04):
Sunday, and they have already fired.

Speaker 1 (01:09:08):
Their coaching staff and the director of baseball operations, the
president of Baseball Operations, and now they're trying to figure
out what's next in that city. Dave Martinez, who just recently,
I believe he had just won his four hundredth game
as a manager, now is fired. They have all Stars

(01:09:29):
James Wood, who is one of the best young players
in the game. They've got a young group of hitters
and the six youngest pitching staff, so the upside is there.
But now they have fired their front office people, so
it's going to be interesting to.

Speaker 3 (01:09:45):
See these version of the knicks.

Speaker 1 (01:09:49):
They are trying, yes, with no playing, with no plan
follow the draft, but we're not going to consider the
fact that we got a draft coming up, yes next week,
next week, So it'll be interesting to see what's going
to happen. Another story that is out there is obviously
the Houston Astros. The Houston Astros went into LA and

(01:10:11):
handled their business by sweeping the La Dodgers. The Dodgers,
who was one of the best teams in baseball, have
all the money and have all of the players that
are our all stars themselves, but the Astros continue to
make things happen, and Jose Altuve talked about it.

Speaker 5 (01:10:31):
Jose Framer Valdez today wasn't his typical start, gave up
a couple of home runs on curve balls, but he
hung in there.

Speaker 3 (01:10:38):
What did you see?

Speaker 9 (01:10:39):
Yeah again, that's the most important thing, He's saying. The
game long enough to gave Ozz the opportunity to win
and get you know, the bookman, to to continue this
game the way they did, and you know, like you say,
it's no his typical book. He always goes up there
and give us a chance to win. And that's what
he did today. He faced till Tony when he was
with the Angels. What did you see today from him?

(01:11:01):
I mean, he's for me. He's almost incredible. You know
his speeches. You know, you can you get a hundred
with a nice slider, split everything, you know, and on
top of that you gotta go hit and you know,
so he's amazing. You know, we don't really like facing him,
but we're happy that we ended.

Speaker 3 (01:11:18):
I went into this game, Hose.

Speaker 12 (01:11:19):
You had the big triple, you wind up scoring the
insurance run.

Speaker 3 (01:11:23):
They blew you constantly here. Do you thrive on this?
Do you enjoy playing in this atmosphere?

Speaker 1 (01:11:29):
No?

Speaker 3 (01:11:29):
I think I show up.

Speaker 9 (01:11:30):
Every day, it doesn't matter where I play, to give
everything I have and help my team to win. You know,
I try to. You know, I've been working really hard
lately to get my pieces to hit. And that's what
happened in that specific about and I could get you know,
another run that was very important for us.

Speaker 3 (01:11:45):
Jose, Thank you very much. Getting back to you.

Speaker 1 (01:11:48):
Another big time performance by jose L two vet a
dude just loves going to LA. You're our resident Houston
Astros fan, Marcus, So what was your thoughts over the
suite and them being in first place?

Speaker 3 (01:12:00):
Right now? Well, see, I'm a little I'm getting.

Speaker 4 (01:12:03):
A little annoyed by Dodgers fan and it's driving me
crazy because they're still whining about twenty seventeen.

Speaker 3 (01:12:09):
And you know what, I'm just gonna play a little
footage of the game. It was just all over.

Speaker 12 (01:12:14):
The place, every pitch. Dashtrows just sent it out a
part eighteen to war, just dominating, dominating, And I'm just
sucking your tears Dodgers fans. Dodgers fan, I'm sucking you
on tears.

Speaker 3 (01:12:26):
And I am like the rest of.

Speaker 12 (01:12:27):
The MJL because we are better than you and you
know it.

Speaker 11 (01:12:31):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (01:12:32):
Wow. In case you didn't know that, Craig Way the
voice that you can hear from two to four, I
mean two to five right here on sports Radio AM
thirteen hundred to zone. He is a Dodgers fan. So
needless to say, yeah, you made.

Speaker 2 (01:12:47):
Now, Hey, let me tell you this, let me tell
you this out two Bay story. I went to the
Houston Sports Awards two years ago and our two Vay
pulls up. As I'm pulling up, y'all jump out of
the the town car or whatever they sent for me,
and he pulls up in a big body Bentley, I

(01:13:08):
mean the big boy that the phantom up and he's
driving and I'm like, why is he driving that?

Speaker 3 (01:13:17):
Like somebody should be driving him. He should get out
the back.

Speaker 1 (01:13:20):
Bro.

Speaker 2 (01:13:20):
When he pulled up to the valet, he opened the
door and I didn't know who it was. I'm standing
there watching because I want to see who it is, right,
and it's him.

Speaker 3 (01:13:30):
He has to jump out of the car.

Speaker 2 (01:13:33):
It looked like a little kid jumping out of the car.

Speaker 3 (01:13:37):
Man.

Speaker 2 (01:13:37):
He is five four or five five. He is not
a big man, not at all. For him to be
able to do what he does and hit the ball
at the size that is, I want to know what
his bat velocity is. He's a special, special guy and
this is a guy that possible. He works his way
to the major leagues after being cut from camps multiple times,

(01:14:02):
and here he is once again being the stud that
he is. All Star game was announced the players the
what do you call it? The reserves. Jeremy Penya he
is on the squad. My guy Bobby Wood Jr. Is
on the squad as well.

Speaker 1 (01:14:19):
Hunter Brown made it as the pitcher Josh Hater as well,
so the astros are well represented, and of course jose
Al Tuve, being the guy that he is, they handled
the LA Dodgers for my guy Mark Henry and of
course our guy Marcus who who just made an enemy
in craig Way going off on him dolls here. Make

(01:14:48):
sure you tune into The Craigway Show this afternoon with
Cam Parker. I'm Mike Harball Haars, Mark Henry and Marcus Spears.
And just remember this will be better tomorrow. Phil Still
we'll be joining up tomorrow talking about Texas. We'll also
have Joe Cook and Anthony Williams all in the first hour.
You do not want to miss it right here on

(01:15:10):
Sports Radio and thirteen hundred Zone. And just remember, don't
believe everything you see, because even salt looks like sugar.

Speaker 3 (01:15:15):
