as he will be giving away tickets as well. Well,
let's get right into it, Mark, do we have to?
We have to? I mean that's what the people want.
People want to get our opinions on these situations. You
want me to go to hospital. People are looking at
you and saying, well, Texas is sitting outside looking in
(02:34):
on the college football playoffs, says the rankings came out
last night and a lot of folks were holding their
breath waiting to see what was going to happen. Where
is Texas in this matchup? Well, Texas right now is
sitting on the outside looking in, and let's just say
(02:54):
a lot of folks are not happy about it. So
what this does, Mark, when you look at the college
football rankings is it breaks down to where you think
your team should be. Right. So you're sitting there looking
at these rankings, and obviously the top of the rankings
stay the same. You've got number one Ohio state number
(03:17):
two Indiana. Those two teams will take on each other
this weekend for the Big Ten Championship. You have Georgia
taking on Alabama. Georgia stays at number three, Alabama is
at number nine, and the number four team they'll be
playing each other for the SEC Championship. Number four team
(03:38):
is Texas Tech on a team that is looking on
the outside that is BYU BYU. Kalani Sataki is staying
at BYU and turned down Penn State. So that's big
for them. That shouldn't give them. You know why, because.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
All of the Mormon billionaires got together and said, hey, no,
he's not going anywhere. Guys, meet me at the water cooler.
We need to come up with some change, right, And
they dug in their pockets and they got some. It
was like coming to America. They they all got together
(04:19):
art and they said, we need to we need to
come up with this money.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
How much you got, how much you got? And they
was able to do it. Then you don't let no
coach like him leave over money, right. I think it
was a little bit more than that too, because he
is he's one of those guys that he understands where
he is and I don't know. And he's heavenly religious too,
very much so, and so it's one of those things
(04:43):
that it was. I think it was, to your point,
a negotiation. Employ It was something that he wanted to
take interest in. Obviously, when you are coveted, you want
to understand your worth in a lot of these situations.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
He was making three million, right and now he's gonna
make it close to eleven.
Speaker 1 (05:03):
So that's a good day, real good day. They're gonna
pay him eleven million dollar ten point something. Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (05:14):
By maximizing your profits, Hey you woke up that day
and you was making three million.
Speaker 2 (05:22):
Now you're gonna be making ten point something, ten point five,
ten point six.
Speaker 1 (05:27):
Yeah, it's a good day. Yeah, it's a good day
for BYU fans as well, so they get to keep
their guy. Looking at number five, Oregon is the number
five ranked team. Number six is Ole Miss. They're getting
their offensive coordinator back, so they didn't get penalized for
being into that situation. So that's good to look at.
(05:49):
And you start to look at number six oh Miss.
Number seven Texas A and M after their loss to
the Texas Longhorns. Number eight is Oklahoma Oklahoma State and
strong at number eight. What a difference a year makes
for Oklahoma. At number nine, it's Alabama right now. Number ten,
(06:11):
that's Notre Dame. That's the conversation that a lot of
people are having right now about Notre Dame. And then
you have the other matchups in the conference championships. You
have the ACC team. Miami's not in the championship. Duke
is playing for our championship against Virginia for ACC. So
(06:33):
now you got that breakup, and now Miami is sitting
at number twelve, Texas is at number thirteen, so you
still have that dynamic. Then you have the American the
other group of five where you have James Madison, North
Texas and Tulane still in the mix. So if this
plays out the way it's going to the way that
(06:55):
they expected to, it is going to be an interesting
time for college football.
Speaker 2 (07:01):
If you go to the BCS page and you hear
the three standardized things that make them a credible organization,
Texas fits the criteria on all three counts, all three counts.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
The first thing they say harde it's strip the schedule.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
Texas ranked eighth, the eighth hardest schedule in college football.
Nobody else in the top sixteen are ranked.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
Period.
Speaker 2 (07:42):
Texas won three games against top ten. Nobody else won
one in the top six. Well, only one team won,
Georgia one. Yeah, may beat us and that is it. Yeah,
(08:02):
I'm gonna skip over the next name. Let's go straight
to know the Dame.
Speaker 1 (08:08):
No, the dame. Strength of schedule is ranked number forty four.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
Of the top one hundred and sixteen teams.
Speaker 1 (08:19):
You ranked forty four, and you ain't beat anybody. You
lost to, you know, the Dame, and you lost to Miami,
and then Miami their best win is beating not the Dame.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
Get out of here. And you're talking about why you
mad Mark Mark relaxed. No, I'm not gonna relax. I'm
not gonna relax. It's not fair. First off, and then
you you know, oh, you're coming from a homer. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
you're right. It's because I want Texas in because I'm
(09:00):
Texas fan.
Speaker 1 (09:01):
But also the mission statement on their board is wrong.
It's absolutely wrong. Head to head is the next thing.
Texas beat Oklahoma. Oklahoma beat Alabama. That's ahead to head.
There's several of them in the.
Speaker 2 (09:22):
Top ten or top excuse me, top twelve. There's several
of them.
Speaker 1 (09:30):
Did Texas get in? No, they thirteen.
Speaker 3 (09:35):
You know why?
Speaker 1 (09:35):
They got three losses. Those teams you talking about got
two losses. But let's hear what could happen during the
week in which there is an opportunity for some teams
to be moved around.
Speaker 3 (09:50):
You, beat man, you.
Speaker 1 (09:56):
Have an opportunity for some things to be moved around
by not even playing this weekend.
Speaker 5 (10:01):
Among the teams who are finished playing do not play
this week can their order flip next Sunday in the
final rankings? Or is the order for the teams who's
hey is in the bar and whose resume is complete?
Speaker 1 (10:15):
Are they set.
Speaker 5 (10:16):
In terms of where they are relative to one another?
Speaker 1 (10:20):
Great great question, reech.
Speaker 6 (10:22):
The management committee during the offseason provided some clarification to
some comments that were made last year. And indeed, idle
teams can move following the results of the championship games
and how they impact the teams that are around those
that play in the championship game and data such as
strength of scheduled teams that may be idle. So yes,
teams that are idle can move up or down.
Speaker 5 (10:43):
So we're not set with Miami definitively being behind Notre Dame,
no matter what is that fair to say, reee?
Speaker 6 (10:51):
Following the championship games, we will re rank the top
twenty five teams and we'll see where they fall.
Speaker 1 (10:57):
Well, we'll see what happens. As they say in a
dumb and dumber so you're saying there's a chance, you
know what that sounded like.
Speaker 2 (11:06):
That sounded like when I my mom when we when
I was a kid, and we would go in the
store and I would say, can.
Speaker 1 (11:13):
I We'll see, Joe, We'll see what happened. We'll see
I don't like we'll see that. Ain't That is not
a good answer, patients, grasshopper, what about I'll think about it.
That's even worse even word, as you could tell, we
got a lot to talk about regarding the college football rankings.
We're gonna hear from coach Sarkisian and what this may
(11:37):
do moving forward for some of those big games. And yes,
there was a bet that was made concerning Lane Kiffin
and Paul Finebaum is looking to be the benefactor of
this bat that I'll explain when we come back right
here on the morning kickoff on Sports Radio and thirteen
(11:57):
hundred the Zone coming up at seven thirty four, we'll
have our guy, Danny Davis of the Austin American Statesman
talk all things Texas Longhorns, the potential of the Bowl,
and of course we're gonna talk a lot about Rory Harmon,
I'm sure, But right now, let's continue these conversations with
(12:22):
the news and the way that teams are setting themselves
up for college football. Texas is in a position now
that they are going to have to change the way
that they go about scheduling. They went to Ohio State,
ended up losing the game fourteen to seven, or just
(12:42):
a great game all the way around by everyone involved.
Both teams are a lot different than what they were
at the beginning of the season, and so now it's
a different look than what it was. But you also
have to understand this, when you schedule those types of opponents,
it comes with the risk of this situation. I know
(13:04):
everybody keeps wanting to bring up Florida, that's not the reason.
If Texas were to play another team and they still
lost to Florida in the SEC, they would still be
ten and two. I mean, that's the reality of it.
Coming in next season. They've moved to a nine game
SEC schedule, so it's going to change the scheduling as well.
(13:26):
So coach Sark talked the other day about the schedules
and what the expectations are, and Sark was crystal clear
about saying they may be canceling the Ohio State game
for next year.
Speaker 3 (13:41):
And I get it.
Speaker 7 (13:42):
We scheduled the Hio State. We went and played that game,
We lose fourteen to seven. We get stopped inside the
five yard line twice on two fourth downs, we outgained
them by nearly two hundred yards, and we lose fourteen
to seven. We lost the game, but they've beaten every
other team they played on their schedule by three scores,
and so at that point, it's like, why do we
(14:03):
even play that game? Because if we're a six and
two team of excuse me, if we're a ten and
two team right now that played four top ten ranked
opponents with three wins, still in the top ten, we're
not even having a discussion right now, we're probably ranked
six in the country in the CFP. We're not having
a discussions. So my point is, why the hell am
(14:23):
I going to play that game next year?
Speaker 1 (14:25):
For what? What good does it do me? And that's
an interesting take, and that is something as fan bases,
we obviously want that game to be played because it's
a great game, you bringing that kind of crowd to
your stadium. But this is where the effects of not
only playing that game, possibly losing that game, and now
(14:47):
you're sitting at a number that is not conducive to
what you're trying to get done, and that's to get
into the college football playoffs. Well, nobody's thinking about losing
a game. No, the thought of playing it and losing
is a bad thing. But you know, for without a
shadow of that out, Whoo, if you rick play.
Speaker 2 (15:12):
That, if you play a top fifty team, you're gonna
you're gonna beat them. As you're Texas, you're gonna that's
just a guarantee win.
Speaker 1 (15:26):
You can schedule. Everybody else is scheduling cupcakes, that's what
we call them. Then Texash just go ahead and just
cancel the game against Ohio State.
Speaker 2 (15:38):
And schedule a team that they know they're gonna beat.
That's where we're coming to. That's that's that's the status quo.
Then why would you go against it? Why would you
go against that system?
Speaker 1 (15:52):
Yep? And that's where a lot of teams, Alabama's already
rescheduled some of their games against certain teams. They're gonna
adjust it. And so now we're at that point where
what we did not want to happen, playing Chattanooga State,
playing Samford, playing these non traditional powers of teams. Texas
(16:17):
now is trying to figure out if they're going to
reschedule and do some different things, And at this particular time,
I don't blame them at this moment. I understand it's
not the way that you want to look at it,
but it's the reality of the business of college football
now and big business of getting into the college football playoffs.
(16:39):
Texas is going to have to deal with it. Us
it's a fan base. We're gonna have to deal with it.
Fan bases across the country are dealing with it. I
don't think it's just going to be Texas. No fan
bases across the country are rescheduling. If you're a high
profile program who Big ten is playing nine Big ten games,
(17:02):
SEC is playing nine SEC games now, it's not there's
no going back now. So now you've got to try
to figure out of those other three games. You need
to have those moments where you can adjust, you can
get some other guys to play, you can get some time,
you can get some rest, and you can get a possible.
Speaker 2 (17:23):
The teams that need to do that are the teams
that are going to be playing the crazy schedules now.
If you are SMU, if you are North Texas, if
you are one of those style teams, you need to
(17:44):
have a win over Texas.
Speaker 1 (17:46):
You need to have a win over Ohio State, one of.
Speaker 2 (17:50):
The bigger programs in order to get in. So yeah,
I'll take a chance to play one of those schools
if they're willing to play me.
Speaker 1 (18:00):
But if you're Texas Alabama.
Speaker 4 (18:04):
Now, in reality is the Big ten and the SEC
that won't be playing those games because the Big twelve
and the ACC teams need those games. Still the Big
twelve and uh I mean.
Speaker 1 (18:16):
Big Team ACC.
Speaker 4 (18:18):
Well, I'm saying the Big ten and the SEC don't
need those games at all.
Speaker 1 (18:24):
Yeah, that's why they're saying that you're playing a nine
game schedule. Well, not just a nine game schedule. Your
conferences are all that deep. That's so is your own
I guess your own exactly. So there's a lot that
goes into it as well. But I want you to
hear from Paul Finebaum. There was a lady, a chef
(18:48):
who is from ox nerd ox Ford, excuse me, and
she is passionate. She was passionate about the fact that
lay was not going to leave Old miss and go
to LSU or Florida. But for sure she was not.
(19:09):
She was positive. She was so positive that she made
a wager. You know how your parents always tell you
don't write check that your behind can't cash. Yeah, well,
literally her behind is about to cash this.
Speaker 7 (19:24):
Think y'all have a whole lot more interesting things to
discuss than Lane Kiffin leaving.
Speaker 1 (19:30):
Old miss. You are wasting your time. You are wasting
your breath, mark my words. He is not leaving. I'll
tell you right now.
Speaker 8 (19:38):
If he does leave us, I will strip down buttonneckd
and I will run around the Oxford Square.
Speaker 3 (19:43):
There you go.
Speaker 1 (19:44):
I said it, and I will.
Speaker 7 (19:45):
That's how confident I am that he is staying and
we will see him next year.
Speaker 1 (19:52):
Man, you now have hoping he leaves, We will tell
him as that live right here? Bye? Ball, I love Paul.
Uh So when when is just happening? Because it should
be happening sooner than later. I mean, don't throw that
(20:14):
out there. If you don't understand the casualties and it's
the cooler weather too, and the thing about it too,
you start looking at Lane Kiffin. How would you bet
anything on Lane Kiffin if you don't if you know
his personality.
Speaker 2 (20:27):
Johncy Bills is the only person that's gonna make that bad.
Speaker 1 (20:33):
Oh, I'm sorry, James, Jones is the one. They put
him in there too, no doubt. So this is a
an interesting time. And look when they expanded this, when
they expanded this type of college football playoffs, you knew
that there were still gonna be moments like this. You
(20:53):
just didn't expect it to be your team on the
outside looking in, especially after the last a million years. Yes,
that Texas was not going to be in this conversation,
and you were hopeful to be looking at other fan
bases and saying, you know what, you shouldn't have lost
that game. You know what, you shouldn't have done this,
You should have did this. Listen, It's the reality in
(21:17):
which we live in. But there always are going to
be changes made along the way. And one of the
changes that is being made right now is Texas looking
at their future schedules. If this is the way that
things are going to be judged. Instead of those things
that you pointed out, the head to head, the strength
(21:37):
of schedule, those things those aren't true. Those aren't Those
are things that they thought they those are things that
they wanted you to look at. Hey, look at this now.
Look this is what we're doing over here. And and
for those that were just saying, well, Texas would get
in because of their money. They draw, they do, there's
no doubt about it, and draw to them. So now
(22:03):
you're you're you're looking on the outside end. But he
did say idle teams might have a chance to hop
in there. I don't know where what happened and we
got a hope in these college football playoff I mean
college football championships, that they go as they're supposed to
because then it creates other How did that work out
(22:25):
this past week? That's what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (22:27):
This past week, everybody won, of the teams won, and
Texas is out.
Speaker 1 (22:34):
Coming up next, we'll talk to Danny Davis up to
Austin and American Statesmen and get his thoughts right here
on the more than kickoff on sports Radio AM thirteen
hundred The Zone. Texas women's basketball does play here. They
will be playing here at the Moody Center and right
here on Sports Radio AM thirteen one hundred The Zone.
Tomorrow night tonight we have Texas men. They will be
(22:56):
playing Virginia in the sec ACC Challenge which got underway
last night. But it's Wednesday, so that can only mean
one thing. Our God, Danny Davis of the Austin American Statesman.
He joins us you can follow him at Underscore Danny Davis, Danny,
you're from Montana, man, don't act like you cold. I
(23:17):
don't want to hear that. Well. I want to fit
in with y'all. So it says forty degrees outside.
Speaker 9 (23:23):
And I saw you on social media yesterday acting like
you were at Eskimo in January and Alaska had twenty
degrees below weather.
Speaker 1 (23:32):
I was like, you know what, it's forty degrees. I'm
throwing my winter coat. I got a hat on. I
put a hood on with y'all. You know, Danny, what
do you think about heart Joe? We were looking like Gorbachev.
Y'all are ridiculous. Get myself, Petro. Forty degrees outside, Lord, Hey,
(23:53):
I dressed down today, Danny. And it's unfortunate because I
got this college football playoff insignia on us. You know,
we talk about it all the time. You get a
chance to go to these bowl games, and right now
it looks like we're gonna go to a different bowl
game if the college football playoffs hold true. From where
it is right now, Texas gets the victory, they knock
(24:15):
off Texas A and M. Now we're sitting here waiting
and trying to figure out coach sarcus politicking all over
the place. This has been a wild ride.
Speaker 9 (24:26):
Nonetheless, it has been you know, quite honestly, that's one
Sunday to get here.
Speaker 1 (24:32):
Kind of tired of tired of all this.
Speaker 9 (24:36):
I think this is one of those rare instances where
I don't think necessarily anybody is wrong. Like I think,
depending on where you're coming from, you have a reason
to have your beliefs and have your arguments and stuff
like that. I don't think anything Steve is staying on
these forty six shows. I'm surprised he replaced me this morning.
(24:57):
Come come in here and chat with y'all. But I
don't think he's being disingenuous or incorrect in his arguments.
I also don't necessarily think if you're one of these
teams who's trying to hold onto a playoff spot, that
you should feel necessarily bad for Texas that the team
that did lose to Florida, that does have three losses,
that did get their butts kicked by Georgia is on
(25:18):
the outside looking in. I think everyone I think if
Texas made the playoffs or Texas didn't make the playoffs.
I think the committee could justify each each decision. And
I think this the people who are on the wrong
end of the argument, they're gonna be the ones that
are most upset. But I think I don't think, really
think anyone's incorrect because you could, yeah, don't lose to Florida,
(25:39):
or Texas gonna be like, why are we playing this
Ohio State game? Are you know we went yeah, six
and two an sec plan. We did beat all those
top ten ten teams. They are correct, But at the
same time, you know, the people who are criticizing Texas
for losing to Florida aren't incorrect. And I do find
a little humorous at Steve and You'rian Vick Shaefer, Yes,
Shane his pressure are just kind of glossing over that
Florida lost like it's it's nothing.
Speaker 1 (26:01):
It's not nothing. That is not nothing lost. So I mean,
I'm just ready for Sunday, Danny.
Speaker 2 (26:06):
But is it is it necessary for you as the
NCC team, with your nine game schedule to play anybody
else outside that?
Speaker 1 (26:18):
I mean it's necessary by conference rules.
Speaker 9 (26:20):
I mean you have to play a power for a
school and so I think where Texas is kind of
back itself into a corner. It's like, Okay, don't play
the oldisting who are you going to play?
Speaker 1 (26:31):
I mean, I'm.
Speaker 9 (26:31):
Assuming most these powerful they only have sixty four or
whatever schools available, most of the schools are probably booked
for the next couple of years. If I was a
power for a school and Texas called me saying that
we need a game next year because we can'tled Ohio State,
first off, I'd probably you know, have a couple of
choice where Crystal Conte because you're calling me because you
think I suck. And then also like I'd also probably
(26:53):
hold Texas over the barrel for millions and millions and
millions of dollars if you're going to be asking me
to come be the the kill game on your school.
Speaker 1 (27:00):
And even then it's still a powerful school. There's no guarantee,
that's all there. You know.
Speaker 9 (27:05):
So because the SEC requires you to, you know, play
these games, and you know, Crystal Conte and Texas seems
to like having their brand and the TV partners stuff,
you like it too.
Speaker 1 (27:16):
I mean, this is what it is. You know, Steve
has also paid a lot.
Speaker 9 (27:19):
Of money to win that game, so you know, and
these players are compensated fairly. So yeah, if that's the
way it's going to be, go out and beat Ohio States.
It's not fair. It's a it's a it's a tough break.
But this is also the University of Texas. This isn't
Baylor or you know, Rutgers or some you know school that.
Sorry Baylor fans if you're if you're watching, like thos
(27:40):
aren't there for I mean, this is this is Texas.
Speaker 1 (27:42):
It is what it is, and this is the card
you're dealt. We're talking to Danny Davis of the Austin
American Statesman. You can follow them at underscore. Danny Davis,
we got sent this question a little bit earlier. Uh,
the committee continues to fail for this system. Is there
any way that this can be fixed? Because by their
own rules, they're not taking everything into consideration for them
(28:05):
to be able to put the best teams on the field.
Speaker 9 (28:11):
I mean, I think with most things, like I used
to be an AP voter, and the reason I hated
being an AP voter was, you know, you tend to
be criticized for pretty much every you could have what
you've used a perfect poll and there's going to be
someone who, you know, roots for a team that's zero
and twenty oh they're angry that their team is not right.
(28:32):
I mean, there's no such thing as a perfect system.
I think most people who are complaining, I would suggest,
you know, what's your alternative, and then once you come
up with that alternative, we'll sit here and we'll completely
rip that to shreds because I don't think there is
a perfect system. We had the BCS that didn't work,
we had the early iterations of the playoff committee that
didn't work. We have whatever it is now that doesn't work.
(28:54):
I don't think there is such thing as a perfect system.
What is Texas does have control over is not losing
three games. And you know, it just kind of is
what it is. When you're leaving the decision up to
a room of thirteen people, one of which is the
athletic director of one of your biggest rivals, you know
that you're leaving a lot of chance. And I mean
(29:17):
sometimes you got to take your own destiny in your
own hands and take care of it and not just
leave it up to politicking on a bunch of morning
shows to get sub done. So it's kind of what
happens when you're on the bubble, whether it's in the
NCAA tournament or the college football players, you're leaving it
up to chance, and you're leaving it up to a
committee that I don't think anyone any of us trusted
before this process started. And so I mean, it is
(29:41):
what it is. I don't think there is a perfect
system and there never will be. And I'm sure whatever
the next iteration is of this college Football Committee will
find faults in that too. But now I guess Texas
fans and Alabama fans can all get together because Alabama
fans are still upset about last year.
Speaker 1 (29:55):
They can all share their pripes together. It's hilarious when
you think about it. Let's transition to the hardwood. Obviously,
you talked about it. You cover, You cover the women,
the winning team. So far, they are up to number
two in the rankings, but Rory Harmon continues to break records.
We got a chance to talk to her yesterday, and
(30:18):
you know, she's just she's grown up so much and
through this time with her humility of understanding what it is,
she finally took time to understand how good and how
much she meant She means to this program.
Speaker 9 (30:35):
I mean, is that question from here Mark here asking you, Yeah,
like you said, I mean, had Rory in our lives
if you're a longtime media member for five years now.
And we got to see her as a as a
freshman who kind of exploded onto this. I mean, she's
been starter since she got to campus, but she really exploded,
(30:57):
became kind of a thing towards the end of her
freshman year. And you got to see her as a
sophomore who I still think she'd have been the Big
twelve Player of the year that year. And then you
go through her junior year where she looked like the
best player in the country and then she blows out
her knee and then that takes that's a long road back.
And she was back last year, but really wasn't the
Rory harmon that we were all expecting to see. And
you know, she struggled at times last year. And you know,
(31:20):
as we all know, I was pretty much on this
show every week talking about why isn't Rory rise and
Rory scoring? And Mark was a Mark was pretty much
wanting to go take a big suit jacket and go
go on the sideline and start to coach coaching her
up herself. And now we are kind of you know,
a year posts. You know, Rory is about to turn
twenty three, she's older, she's a vet. She's now the
(31:40):
all time assist leader. Obviously that no one's ever going
to take that away from her. I mean, there's two
players in the school history of more than six or
ten assists, and Rory by the time she's done is
going to be like in the seven fifties, eight hundreds.
I mean, no one is going to touch touch her record.
She's going to have that record for a long time.
She might end up becoming the all time Seals leader,
and she can get out of here with the title,
(32:01):
which is really the only thing that matters, and that
you know that department, we might as well just hear,
retire her jersey the day she walks off the court
and go put that in the rafters.
Speaker 1 (32:09):
So true. I mean, she's had an incredible career.
Speaker 9 (32:11):
She'll be the first to tell you that's not done
because she she wants that, daddy. And you know, with
the way this team is playing, I wouldn't bet against
them because they accomplerenced a lot with some adversity this past.
Speaker 2 (32:22):
Speaking Danny, is it is it a foregone conclusion of
gone and say, hey, Mark, maybe you own the something
because I like to get by props like I want.
Speaker 1 (32:34):
I've been saying for a long time. I love the
way how easy Rory can get her shout off. She
just she just weren't. I didn't think feel like she
was shooting enough.
Speaker 2 (32:47):
Now she's shooting enough, She's scoring, she's hitting game winners,
like you know.
Speaker 1 (32:52):
I got a lot of.
Speaker 2 (32:53):
Scrutiny man about you know, her being an assist person,
the facilitator, the defense is specialist like she's she's she's
the best. She's the best point guard in the country.
And I want to see her get that, just dude.
Speaker 9 (33:10):
I mean, I don't want to completely completely give your
pros and those this is your show, man, I would
be kicked out.
Speaker 1 (33:16):
But I mean, I think there's a fine balance.
Speaker 9 (33:19):
I know, if I'm a Texas fan, if I'm Vick Schaeffer,
I don't want Rory Hartman to be a twenty point
per game score. I just don't. I want her to
be the facility of this offense. I want her to
not turn over the football. I want her to set
up You're all American forward Madison Booker, who man to
be in the all time leading scorer at the school
when she's done with her with her career. You have
other talent. I mean, Jordan Lee has been explosive this year,
(33:41):
Leiah Trump, whatever she gets back, you have those post players.
I want Rory running my offense. I want her leading
the defense, which is what you know. She has benched,
and she came here as a freshman. Like I said,
she mad to be in the all time steals leader
when this is all said and done. And if she
can knock down some shots down down the stretch or
not be a person that defenses are completely sagging off
(34:02):
and have to like respect that part of her game,
that's great. Like if Rory is averaging, you know, eleven
twelve points a game while shooting whatever she's shooting in
the sixties and seventies, that's great. And then you let
her facilitate the offense, you let her lead the defense,
and then you let the other people, the other talented
players and their five star recruits and offense do their thing.
But I don't think she needs to be a twenty
(34:23):
point per game score, sorry Mark, to be effective and
to be the best point guard in the country because
she's currently the best point guard in the country and
she's not doing that. So if she keeps doing what
she's doing, I think that is more than more than
enough for this Texas team.
Speaker 1 (34:36):
I'll take it. We get There is Danny Davis of
the Austin American Statesman.
Speaker 9 (34:42):
Hey, stay stay warmed, Danny stay warmed. Tak taking my
coach Orlando in a couple of weeks, so I hope
you you bundle up too. I will be prepared, my friend.
There is Danny Davis of the Austin American Statesman. You
can follow him at Underscore Danny Davis. When we come back, we'll.
Speaker 1 (34:58):
Close out our number one and give you a chance
to win a pair of tickets. That's right, folks, Texas
basketball plays tonight. We'll talk about that as well right
here in the morning kick off on sports Radio AM
thirteen hundred The Zone and always free on the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 3 (35:13):
The heck is that?
Speaker 1 (35:16):
No idea? What that is?
Speaker 4 (35:17):
Well, in light of our hart's hat, I just decided
to pay a little Russian.
Speaker 1 (35:25):
Like what is that? Oh? That was very gorbiouche like
do that dance? Wait to cross their arms? Had not
doing no dancing, man, What is wrong with you? I'm
just trying to stay warm. Man. Ball headed brothers need
to cover up their domes. So that's what I did. No,
(35:46):
you've been doing too much already today. But a shout
out to Daddy Davis of the Austin American Statesman. That
was That was That was fun. That was fun talking
to Danny. So now's your chance to win a pair
of tickets for August to nineteenth to go see Chicago
and Sticks at the Moody Center. All you got to
do is get over to AM thirteen hundred The Zone
(36:07):
and on that always free iHeartRadio app, tap that Red
Michael phone and leave the keyword of the day. Blue.
Blue is your key word of the day. Texas men's
basketball play takes on Virginia tonight in the acc SEC
Challenge and that game will tip off at eight fifteen.
(36:28):
You can hear all the action right here on AM
thirteen hundred The Zone. You can also watch it on
ESPN U. And Sean Miller was asked about his identity
with his team and what he feels he's accomplished in
those three non conference games.
Speaker 10 (36:43):
Yeah, I think our identity is still a work in progress.
I think we're starting to establish things, you know. I think, Kirk,
what you want to be and who you are doesn't
mean it's the same thing.
Speaker 3 (36:56):
You know, I can give you this is who we are,
but you got to be that.
Speaker 10 (37:00):
And I think your performance dictates your identity.
Speaker 3 (37:04):
Uh So, I think a couple of things.
Speaker 10 (37:05):
On the offensive side of the basketball, I think we've
established ourselves that we can get to the free throw line.
You know, that is a big factor. That's a stack.
We do it in a lot of different ways. We
could do it, uh in the low post, especially with Modish.
Speaker 1 (37:20):
One of one of the.
Speaker 3 (37:21):
Keys to his game is just you know, he draws
a lot of fouls.
Speaker 10 (37:25):
We have the ability to offensive rebound, which a lot
of times, you know, that's the fuel behind getting fouled.
Usually a good offensive rebounding team shoots free throws.
Speaker 3 (37:36):
And then we.
Speaker 10 (37:37):
Also have guards who can attack the basket, whether that
be in transition or in the half court. Kendall Weaver,
Dalan Swain, you know, Tremon and Mark. You look at
those guys like they're wired to be able to drive
the ball in a straight line. So free throw attempts
is a big deal. I think we've established ourselves there.
You know, I think our pace it's getting better. It's
(37:59):
not where we wanted to be, but we're on the
right track there. And then from a defensive perspective, you know,
fouling negates a lot of our good work. So I
can't really speak to our defense. Obviously, we want to
be a tough, minded, physical, together group on defense, and
I do believe that at times we've shown that. But
if you foul, no different than in football getting penalized,
(38:23):
you know, it just it sets you back. You can't
see the good things you're doing because you're always you know,
serving time for your penalties. Right, Fouling is the same,
and there are just too many fouls early in the
second half of games. If you look at our NC
State game, you know, two players I'm sorry on Arizona State.
Two players on ASU's team shot twenty eight free throws.
(38:46):
We fouled them twenty eight times. So we have to
improve our fouling before I think our identity defensively can go.
In terms of the overall part, I do think we
have a team who competes. I think we have a
team that wants to win and fight for each other,
and as we keep moving forward, that will continue to
be tested. But I like the direction we're headed in
(39:09):
that area.
Speaker 1 (39:10):
That is why Texas has a big challenge to understand.
And the best thing that he said in there, it's
hard to judge our defense because fouling the gates good defense, right,
So you have to work on that. So I really
enjoyed listening to that. Our number one is in the books,
our number two is just around the corner. When we
(39:31):
come back, we'll continue the conversations NFL Talk Cowboys get
ready for the Lions, the Bears and the Packers and
the Jags and Indy play for first place. We'll talk
about it right here on the morning kickoff on sports
Radio AM thirteen hundred to zone and always free on
the iHeartRadio app. Welcome back to our number two of
(39:51):
the more they kickoff right here on sports Radio AM
thirteen hundred to zone and always free on the iHeartRadio app.
And our number one. We got a chance to hear
from Coach Sark and the committee as Texas comes in
as the number thirteenth ranked team in the latest College
Football Poll ranking, and of course a lot of people
are upset about it. We talked to Danny Davis about
(40:13):
that as well, and he sees the arguments on both
sides and that's great. We also got a chance to
talk about Rory Harmon and what she's been able to do.
We'll also hear from Rory Harmon as she met with
us yesterday and all the media, and it was good
conversation with one Rory Harmon. We were going to talk college,
I mean NFL football. We're gonna push that back to
(40:35):
the next segment. And the reason why we're going to
push that back is because today is National Signing Day
Texas and all the schools across the country are looking
to see what their rankings are going to be, how
they got all these commitments, who signed, who didn't sign,
and coach Sark is all ready on the board with
(40:57):
nine signees already in this morning, starting with the quarterback
in the twenty twenty six class. That will be Dia Bell.
He is a five star quarterback ranked nationally as number
twenty seven. He is at American Heritage, Florida. He's already signed.
He's coming off of an injury, he's been in Austin
(41:17):
a lot, and he's become the pied piper of this
recruiting class. Samarri Matthews, cornerback six foot and a half
one hundred and nine ninety four star recruit. He has
already signed as well. He's from North Carolina. Someone from
the two five Folk Jamari and Carlton six four and
(41:37):
a half defensive edge rusher, four star. He's signed and
he is in. Colinn Brown wide receiver six foot one
ninety three star signed, jaheem Riley Austin Anderson defensive safety,
defensive back play some corner two three star. He is signed.
Charlie Jack Jillick from tight end. He flipped at the
(42:01):
last moment he was going to Minnesota. Now he is
coming to the University of Texas. Georgetown offensive lineman Kayden
Shrr six foot and a half six' five and a
half excuse, me two hundred and eighty five three star is.
In and then they Got Mikey buscus bacacka excuse me
(42:22):
from Prosper. Texas he's a punter six foot, three two
hundred and five, pounds And Jake collett heritage out Of.
Georgia he is a kicker six foot one seventy. Five
those last three guys are three star. Signees some names
to pay attention. To Jermaine, bishop most athletic guy in the.
(42:43):
GROUP i believe he is an. Athlete he's pushed down
as an. Athlete he's done everything For. Willis he is
a five. Star he's supposed to sign. Today Tyler, atkinson
the linebacker From, georgia he is a four. Star he's
supposed to sign. Today and there's a lot of names
of players that should be, signing and hopefully by the
(43:04):
end of the show we'll have all of those commits
all the way.
Speaker 3 (43:07):
In, Well i'm.
Speaker 2 (43:09):
Looking at it like, This texas doesn't have a lot
of extreme, needs but the luxury of having somebody to
come in and take that position and sit back and
be prepared for the following. Year bill is going to
come back and be archers back up and he'll get
(43:33):
the same treatment.
Speaker 1 (43:34):
That arch got when he was being the backup For.
Speaker 2 (43:39):
Quinn like those are the things THAT i feel Like
texas is doing, really really. Well is bringing in guys
you know they're going to be a. Starter it's just
a matter of time and letting them get the you,
know let them get a little ground survey and to
see what it looks like to be the guy and
(44:00):
to work behind the, guy and Then texas is going
to be fine looking into the.
Speaker 1 (44:05):
Future they got another commitment or another letter signed in
the letter of intent From Hayward Howard. Junior he's out
Of New, Orleans, louisiana six foot, two one seventy five.
Cornerback he's a four star out Of. Louisiana So texas
is racking up a lot of these top recruits in the,
(44:26):
nation which is, huge especially when you start to look
at what's happening in the coaching, Searches like we talk
About Kalone sataki staying AT, Byu what does that do
For Penn? State they don't have a head Coach's national Signing.
Day who are these kids signing to play? For that
changes the whole dynamic of what's going. On this could
(44:49):
be a, terrible terrible day For Penn state unless these
are kids that are grown up in.
Speaker 2 (44:56):
Pennslatee and they just that was the school that they
wanted to go play.
Speaker 1 (44:59):
For but then you don't know who the coach is gonna,
be and the coach may not want you at that.
Point he may Not you might not have been on
his recruiting board for what they're looking. For so there's
that that is involved as. Well But vanderbilt flips the
top quarterback From. Georgia Jared curtis From georgia five star
quarterback is in line to be the backup or to
(45:22):
be the predecessor of One Diego. Pavia he's the number
three player in the country and he is the highest
rated commitment from To vanderbilt ever. Ever, yeah so there's
a lot that is going on in college. Football Neil
brown has now been named the head coach Of North.
(45:43):
Texas he's gonna be Replacing Eric, morris another coach that
has a great mind that would probably be perfect in
that system because that means that they get to keep
a lot of the guys That eric doesn't take with.
Them they will be able to have the same type of.
Offense they're both fast, paced up and, down both under
The mike Leech, tree both from uh the what's my guy's,
(46:08):
name he used to be a, Coach he's the How,
Mummy he's How, mommy and so those are the guys
that they understood the offense from these these are gonna
be some big. Moves but watching college football at this
point when you are now making coaching, changes and It's
National Signing. Day a lot of these coaching changes happened
(46:31):
at the last. Minute what IS lsu? Doing you look
at What Lane kiffin is going to. Be, yeah but
you start to look at it and you, say oh,
wow this is, uh this is going to be interesting
because some some people already, left some people decided they
didn't want to be. There, yeah you think he's going
(46:53):
to try to build in the portal.
Speaker 2 (46:54):
Too of, course right now, game right now.
Speaker 1 (46:58):
Team he's gonna definitely need a right now team because,
again you start to look at where they are nationally
when it comes to recruiting and who are some of
their top. Recruits he doesn't have a quarterback in that,
class he doesn't have certain positions of need in his recruiting,
class and he don't know what was on the board
when he got, there right you, know who are you
(47:21):
able to flip a couple of these? Guys but he's
got some five stars that said that they're going to stay.
Home so we'll see one of those Being Lamar brown
From Baton. Ruge so we'll see what he. Is he's
a five star. Athlete they got another, Guy Richard, anderson
who's From New, Orleans. Louisiana he needs to stay. Home
(47:41):
so they're going to try to do everything they can
to keep those types of players. There but it is
going to be, interesting especially when you look at The
big twelve and the money that is out. THERE i
was At baylor this past weekend and kind of seeing
what is happening with. Them they've lost some recruits as,
well so what's.
Speaker 3 (48:01):
Next how are you going to build In?
Speaker 1 (48:04):
Waco and it has been a battle all the way,
around so we'll see what happens.
Speaker 2 (48:09):
There, Man i'm looking at some of THE lsu. Commits
they did get some heavy duty defensive players that the defensive,
line outside, linebacker edge. Guys they did a good job
of recruiting without having a head coach on board.
Speaker 1 (48:32):
Already SO.
Speaker 2 (48:35):
I see the offense, though the offense being, built AND
i just hope that he stays in his.
Speaker 1 (48:43):
Lane sounding Like LeVar ball in your lane. Now texas
just got another signing in three star wide receiver out
Of Shadow creek out Of, Proland Chris. Stewart he has
signed his letter of intent and is on board as.
Well So texas has eleven guys out of the twenty
(49:03):
five commitments that have already. Signed they'll be trickling in
all day. Long so it's going to be a depending
on what time zone you're, in you might be getting
up a little bit. Later those guys out Of florida
on The East, coast that's why they were so they were,
early so they got, it been able to sign and
get the letters. In so it is going to be a,
(49:26):
tough tough week trying to figure out what's next For.
Texas we don't know if they're going to get into
the college football, playoffs but all signs from what everybody's looking,
at looks like we're going To orlando to The Cheese It.
BOWL i Love jesus toast. It you ever had to
toast it extra? Cheesy oh my? God this? Man, YEAH i,
(49:50):
mean what don't you? Like mark, LIKE i don't like.
Asparagus that was very, quick, RIGHT i know WHAT i don't? Like, yeah.
Asparagus it's not. Good, okay all, RIGHT i like. IT
i like. IT i. DID i. Did when we come,
back we're gonna talk, FOOTBALL nfl, football because, yeah it
(50:12):
was a little. MUCH i don't like. Asparagus. Jeez when
we come, back we'll TALK NFL a lot to break
down and, uh The cowboys are they about to make a.
Move they're about to make a. Run we'll talk about
it right here on the Morning kickoff on Sports RADIO
am thirteen Hundred The. Zone welcome back to the morning
(50:35):
kickoff right here On Sports RADIO am thirteen one Hundred The.
Zone Mike, harball haars W W hall Of, Famer World Strongest,
man The Mark hem and as, always our Guy marcus
is holding it. DOWN i want to get into this
because it is a big weekend in THE. NFL i
don't know if THE nfl planned it like this they
(50:56):
expected it to. Happen but as well as there are
championships being played on the college, level there are some
games that are going to be affecting a lot of
folks coming up this. Week it starts tomorrow night as
The Dallas cowboys travel To detroit to take on The Detroit.
Lione detroit is a three point favorite over under fifty
(51:20):
four and a. Half for those that are wondering odds at,
DraftKings by the, way on a hundred gambler kind of,
problem we will give out our predictions On. Friday because
it is championship. Weekend we may do it tomorrow because
we got some things that we need to take care.
Of we'll figure it. Out but there's a lot of
(51:41):
games this weekend that have a lot of, bearings and
it's not necessarily The marquee, Games like this is a marque.
Game dallas sitting at, six five and, one The lions
sitting at seven and. Five both teams are trying to
fight for their playoff. Lives at this. Point you look
At i'll get to the game in a minute With
Green bay and The. Bears both of those teams are
(52:04):
at the top of their division and they're. Battling but
you also have The ravens and The. Steelers both teams
are sitting at six and. Six they both seem to
be headed in opposite. Directions The. Steelers you, know you
talk about putting dirt on The. CHIEFS i think that
The steelers need to have dirt put on, them because
(52:24):
now it's getting to the point where people are talking
bad About Mike.
Speaker 2 (52:29):
Tomlin they're throwing dirt on the. Coach, hey, listen we
said this about five weeks. AGO i told you That
tomlin was set. Up DIDN'T i tell you what was set? Up,
like they're just not gonna win with what they, have
and regardless of how hard they, work they don't have
the tools. Hard they don't have enough tools in the.
(52:52):
Toolshit And aaron is all your eggs in one basket.
Deal if he does not rise to the occasion and
transcend his normal, play then they're going to. Lose and
that's where they.
Speaker 1 (53:12):
Are, YEAH i think this is at a point where
they have to win or it is over For tomlin
because he's trending to his first losing season ever as a.
Coach but then you look at The ravens and who
are they at this? Moment every week you thought When
lamar got, back they were gonna be. Great last, Week
lamar didn't play. Well he was, back he was. AWFUL
(53:35):
i don't even think it's being out of.
Speaker 2 (53:37):
PRACTICE i think that the identity of that team has
changed and maybe rather than having it all bunched, up
they need to go to more traditional style of. Offense you,
know almost an eye, formation pistol formation where they attack.
Speaker 1 (53:58):
Defenses because what they're doing right, NOW i, mean it's
just not. WORKING i don't like the zone READ rpo.
Speaker 2 (54:07):
System Lamar jackson being your first option right like you
had to do drop back three, step five step seven
step and throw the ball or run then, Right but
to be your first to drop. Back, okay, running that's
how long is that gonna?
Speaker 3 (54:27):
Work?
Speaker 1 (54:28):
Yeah you know he's getting older. Too, yeah it's it's
not it doesn't look. Good it don't get. Hurt and
he's dealing with an. INJURY i, Mean, lamar that's why
he was. Out he's dealing with. Injury so we'll see
what ends up happening. There then you also have to
go and look at some of these other. Games AS i,
mentioned The colts are traveling To. Jacksonville they're both sitting
(54:50):
at eight and, four and this is an opportunity for
one to fall, obviously and a chance for The Houston,
texans who will take On Kansas city On monday night.
Football you have to look at that as, Well so excuse,
Me sunday night. Football so that's gonna be an important.
Matchup you also have The bears and The. Packers bears
(55:14):
sitting at nine and, three The packers eight three and.
One that's a big. Game it's a huge, game and
that's The Fox Special, game The game of The. Day
this is. Huge The Green Bay packers are a six
and a half point. Favorite though at What Jordan love
has been playing really good. Football he's looking like this
(55:36):
is the time of the season Where Jordan love starts to,
ascend this is where he starts to play, really really.
Well but you have to give credit where credit is.
Due and watching The Chicago bears week in and week,
out watching what they've been able to, do seeing the
maturation of One Caleb williams has been really fun to.
(55:57):
Watch they run the ball well With deandrew if they
can pass it a doonsday six touchdowns on the, year
they move it around to different guys and right Now
Caleb williams is not making The Caleb williams of old
mistakes and so he's he's changing the.
Speaker 2 (56:15):
Narrative and that's the. Coaching you, know you bring in
the best offensive. Coach and he Told caleb at the
beginning of the, season we want to eliminate the negative.
Plays if we can eliminate the negative, plays then we'll
we'll chalk up a bunch of. Yards both of us didn't.
Speaker 1 (56:35):
Think That caleb can manage.
Speaker 2 (56:37):
Games we thought that he was too much of a
wild card to try to manage a football. Game ben
has taught him how to manage a. Game, well he's
taught about. Dangerous he's taught him how to watch.
Speaker 1 (56:48):
Film he's taught him how to understand the need and
what is. Expected it's amazing when film study will get
you exactly with somebody who knows how to help you
do film, study no, doubt because nobody else was helping
him in the. Beginning so now he is understanding what
it is and The bears are benefactors of, this that
The Bears nation or, whatever bear down. Whatever they talk to.
(57:10):
Himself they are excited about watching this team. Play it's
it's best. Car it's, cardiac but they. Are you're gonna be.
Speaker 2 (57:19):
On edge you see in this. Game i'm looking forward to.
It But i'm just, SAYING i don't think this is cutting.
Dry Green bay is gonna just beat them like they're different.
Speaker 1 (57:32):
Team this is not the same. Team And i'm seth.
Speaker 2 (57:36):
Freaking rollins Ww superstar Del O, brown like several other
guys THAT i know Are bears.
Speaker 1 (57:44):
Fans they Are they're Like, mark this is.
Speaker 2 (57:49):
So unusual THAT i can't even. Comment they're they're they're they're.
Speaker 1 (57:55):
BATTERED i, mean it is what it is. THERE i
got a bunch Of bear fans too that are. Battered
Mister Chicago may is not A bears. Fan no is
he even a football, fan not. REALLY i know he's
in the baseball and. Hockey, yeah, Yeah so that is
(58:16):
going to be a matchup of the, weekend and of
course The sunday night, matchup you have The texans and The.
Chiefs marcus put dirt on. Them The texans are coming
off that big win against their, rival The indianapolis. Coach
but this is a game that they have to have
if the if The Kansas City chiefs are going to be,
(58:38):
done this is the game that done completely out of the,
rankings not EVEN i think run over them.
Speaker 2 (58:47):
TOO i don't even think it's going to be like
a game With Mark.
Speaker 1 (58:50):
Chill, chill you, know, yeah you don't want that. Smoke
but again you talk To Patrick mahon's Not Patrick mahomes
is playing at home where The chiefs are five and
one at home this, year so it will be an
interesting task for The Houston. Texans The texans they got
(59:13):
the top defense in THE, nfl so it's gonna pose
some problems For Patrick. Mahomes but you Heard mark vandermir
yesterday and if you missed that. Interview get over to
our podcast page on The iHeartRadio app or wherever you
get your. Podcasts he talked About Rashid rice and what
he's been looking like for this. Team Yea, worthyes not
(59:35):
as worthy right, now but if he can get, hot
you Got Travis. Kelcey Kareem hunt has been running his
behind off getting those, touchdowns so he'll be getting. Healthier,
yeah it's gonna be a tough task for The Houston,
texans and that is one of the. Games i'm glad
it's A sunday night. Game you can hear all the
(59:56):
action right here on Sports RADIO am thirteen Hundred The.
Zone i'm excited for that.
Speaker 2 (01:00:01):
Game i'm excited for, it BUT i still feel Like
houston is gonna do him dirty because The cowboys set the.
Template the only reason That Kansas city was in that
game against The cowboys is they gave up outside containment
a few. Times if, You houston is a much better
(01:00:22):
defense than The cowboys ass, Right so if they keep
the outside, tament, yeah if they keep that outside containment,
down which we know they, will, Like Patrick mahomes is
going to be forced to have to throw strikes AND
i don't know.
Speaker 1 (01:00:36):
If that against that, defense they can do, it and
they also On monday night we have The eagles and The,
chargers but we'll talk about that On. Monday we'll also
get a chance to figure out what's going on with
the college football. Playoff. Franks people are blowing me up
trying to get those answers when we come. Back you
know what time it. Is it's time for the world's
strongest man to give you his world's strongest take right
(01:00:58):
here on the morning kickoff on Score RADIO am thirteen
hundred er zone and always free on The iHeartRadio. App
National Signing day is, happening and that's what it's all.
About but right now you know exactly what it. MEANS
Wwe hall Of Famer World's Strongest Man Theeve Mark henry
brings you his world's strongest.
Speaker 2 (01:01:18):
Take take it, away big Fellow. Hart you know what timing.
Is what's Hamas it's time for the world's strongest take
by the world's strongest. Man my guess back then they
didn't know, me.
Speaker 1 (01:01:33):
But Now i'm hot they all on.
Speaker 2 (01:01:34):
Me, well, guys something big happened last night a little
bit after three am in the. Morning The Los Angeles.
Clippers the president of basketball, Operations Lawrence, frank informed Chrisp
(01:02:00):
all that he is no longer A, clipper and that's
why did it? Take first of, all why did it
take for them to do this at three in the.
Morning then something, happened but Anyway West, coast it was,
(01:02:20):
well they were In atlanta and they sent him home this.
Morning So i'm Sure Chris paul either took A g
five and he's already there or he's, uh he'll be approaching,
Yep Los angeles at this. Time Chris.
Speaker 1 (01:02:39):
Paul, Now.
Speaker 2 (01:02:41):
December, fifteenth he'll be a complete free agent and he'll
be able to be signed by somebody.
Speaker 1 (01:02:47):
Else but The. Clippers Chris paul is the leader and
assists and steals for The. Clippers he wanted the end
of his career with that, team and that's not gonna happen.
Now BECAUSE i still think That Chris paul has a
(01:03:08):
lot of basketball left at forty years. Old there are
teams that need, him Likely Houston.
Speaker 2 (01:03:25):
Dallas there's championship teams that could use a solid point,
guard even if it's for a few minutes a. GAME
i really do feel like that with this, news which was,
odd to say the. Least there's still a place in
(01:03:48):
THE nba For Chris paul to finish it this year out.
Speaker 1 (01:03:53):
Strong what say? You not a? Fan not a fan
of this version Of Chris. Paul there has to be
a reason Why Chris paul was told to pack the. Door,
yeah he might have been early in the, morning might
have been. Disgruntled there might have been something that happened
(01:04:13):
after the, Game there might have been a. Discussion who
knows exactly what has, happened And i'm sure we'll find
out soon. Enough but the reality of it, is Is
Chris paul for what it, is he hadn't won a.
Championship he every time he gets, close there's an, injury
(01:04:34):
there's something detrimental that happens to, him and he's not
able to finish the. Race, now look his career, outstanding
what he brought to the team as far as leadership
and who he. Is can't knock. It but the reality
of it, is Sometimes Chris paul is tough to deal with.
(01:04:55):
PROBLEM i don't think he's his worst. PROBLEM i think
other people don't want to have to deal with with
him and his constructive criticism about, others but not about.
Himself you, know sometimes you have to look in the
mirror on what's going.
Speaker 3 (01:05:11):
On he may be at that point, Too he may be.
Speaker 1 (01:05:13):
Tired he may be, saying you know, WHAT i can't
wait for.
Speaker 2 (01:05:17):
The other shoe to. DROP i want to know what.
HAPPENED i think. HARD i, MEAN i.
Speaker 1 (01:05:23):
DON'T i don't know about the time. STAMP i. DON'T
i don't look at it that. Way that might have
been when the news. Broke that might have been some
other reasons for, That but the reality of it, is
he's not the Same Chris, paul and they probably wanted
to cut his.
Speaker 3 (01:05:41):
MINT i don't.
Speaker 1 (01:05:42):
KNOW i don't. Know the been averaging three points a,
game and you can get that to some area for the,
league you, can you can bring up somebody that doesn't
cost as much money As Chris paul. Costs there's there
again to your, POINT i can't wait to see the
other side of this story and see what has. Happened
(01:06:03):
but my basketball thought process With Chris, paul you just said,
it three points a, game three. Assists he's the shell of,
himself and maybe he felt a certain type of. Way
maybe he was sitting in the room smoking a, cigar drinking,
whatever and was, like you know, WHAT i don't have
(01:06:26):
the passion THAT i had. Before maybe you, know like you,
said there'll be more to the, story but the bigger
story is not to take away your world's strongest, take.
Speaker 3 (01:06:37):
But what's going on With? Lebron, like what's his?
Speaker 1 (01:06:40):
Problem what is his? DEAL i think that what it
is is The lakers have moved, on, yes and he's
never been in a situation like. This he's not handling it.
Well he's Definitely like for those that don't Know, lebron
they were playing the, CLIP i mean The suns and
he's standing on the sideline yucking it up with the
(01:07:01):
with The suns while the game is going, on AND
Jj reddick is trying to get him back into the.
HUDDLE jj even called the time out because he was
so pissed because and he Waved lebron, like, hey come, here,
right And lebron, said, no.
Speaker 3 (01:07:14):
No i'm.
Speaker 1 (01:07:14):
Good i'm gonna finish this up over finish, YEAH i,
mean and let's not forget he had His Ben simmons.
Speaker 4 (01:07:20):
Moment he had a basket under the he had a
shot on the, basket passed it out for a three.
Speaker 1 (01:07:25):
Exactly, well he's.
Speaker 3 (01:07:26):
Working on his.
Speaker 1 (01:07:27):
Assists once he gets to that double, DOUBLE i mean
those ten, points he believes That i've already done EVERYTHING
i needed to do today and something is.
Speaker 5 (01:07:35):
Up.
Speaker 2 (01:07:36):
Man, Yeah, like if you want to be, traded then
just say.
Speaker 1 (01:07:40):
That but if you wanted to be, traded listen here,
here here's WHERE i am With. Lebron And i've been
a Big lebron. Supporter still think he's one of the best,
players if not the best player to ever play the.
GAME i know people Love Michael. JORDAN i get. It
i'm not. Arguing i'm not gonna argue just to argue.
Anymore but here's the. Deal lebron had an opportunity to
(01:08:00):
leave before the. Season they. Knew he knew When Luka
doncic came TO la this was going to Be luca's basketball.
Speaker 3 (01:08:10):
Team luca is playing some.
Speaker 1 (01:08:12):
Of the if not the best basketball he's ever played
in his professional. Career luca is. Amazing at this, Point
lebron is a shell of. Himself still one of the
best players in the. Game can still give you thirty
if he needs, to BUT i don't think he's as
passionate about the game as he once. Was that's the.
(01:08:35):
STORY i want to know more About Chris paul is.
Cool the STORY i want to know is what's going
on WITH Jj, Reddick Lebar, Lamar Lebron james And luca Donc.
Speaker 2 (01:08:48):
And if you can't coach a, guy then what are your?
Options and there's only. One you gotta. Go you gotta, go,
Man you got only.
Speaker 1 (01:09:01):
One.
Speaker 2 (01:09:02):
Man that's so sad is that it's sad for me
as A laker.
Speaker 1 (01:09:07):
Fan also to, say, okay Because, lebron they brought him,
there he delivered a. Championship he's done everything that a
super player can do except for gracefully bow, wow AND
i don't think that he has that in. Him he
ain't bow wow wow and he ain't yippy yo. Yeppia
(01:09:28):
he got to go, Okay, yeah he's got to. Go,
Yeah i'm with. You we're gonna close. Out we're gonna
close out the show and send you To Dan Patrick
texas big matchup To. Nooy but we also have but
we also have to hear from our, Girl Rory harmon

(01:09:50):
always free on The iHeart radio.
Speaker 4 (01:09:52):
App what a.
Speaker 1 (01:09:53):
Great show we had again. Today make sure you get
over to the podcast page wherever you get your. Podcast
we Had Danny, davis The Austin American, statesman who is.
HILARIOUS a man was dressed up LIKE i was yesterday
and WHEN i was freezing and it was sixty. Five
just wanted to put that out. There. Mark my mother
in law told me to tell you that the toasty
(01:10:14):
cheese its are the, best so she concurs with your
thought process on those cheese. Its she agreed with. You,
also don't forget tonight at The Moody center you will
be able to See virginia As texas Host virginia in
the ACC Sec. Challenge it starts at eight, fifteen but
(01:10:36):
you can hear all the action right here On Sports
RADIO am thirteen Hundred The zone with the Voice Craig,
way and you can also listen to. It listen To
Craig way this afternoon from two to five right here
On Sports RADIO am thirteen Hundred zone and always free
on The iHeartRadio. App yesterday we got a chance to
meet With Rory harmon The university Of texas all time
(01:10:59):
lead assist leader and she was asked about the assist
record in her place In texas.
Speaker 8 (01:11:06):
History it's such a like great, school like not even you,
know sports and, whatnot like, academically it's just it just
has so much presence in the. World LIKE i truly
think this is the best school to be. At obviously
it helps it that it's really close to home for,
me BUT i couldn't see myself anywhere. Else but as
(01:11:30):
far as the, history it's just like it just goes down.
Deep like you, said this is a record that was
that was forty years, ago and we still hold on
to those like. Things we still hold on to those
records and traditions and to be able forty years forward
now to be able to get this, record and now
(01:11:54):
my name is at the top of, it like like
Now i'm considered a part Of texas, History Like i'm
a part of The university Of texas women's basketball team.
History and that just feels really. Good you, KNOW i
don't really pay that much attention to individual, accolades but
(01:12:15):
when you like come down in history and you're able
to do something like, that like it truly does feel
like really, Good LIKE i feel really good about myself
to be able to do, that and LIKE i, SAID
i can't do that with anyone else around, me LIKE
i have played with such great players along the side
to help me do, That but that everything means so
(01:12:36):
much more, here like, it we don't just great people
in our past haven't done great. Things we're, like all, right,
well let's just move on to the next. Generation like,
No like we truly do care about the people who've
done great things before.
Speaker 1 (01:12:48):
Us that that is some of the things THAT i
really really look at as. Well but then you also
have to understand too who she is as a basketball
player and her legacy and her place In texas.
Speaker 8 (01:13:03):
History, HONESTLY i think about it, now especially realizing how
CLOSE i was to you, know with my twelve hundred
and seven, hundred WHICH i don't overlook that at. All
that was such a great thing to be a part, of.
Too but Now i'm an all time assist.
Speaker 3 (01:13:18):
Leader like you.
Speaker 8 (01:13:21):
DON'T i can't. WAIT i can't wait to like think
about how Much i've meant to this university and how
my legacy obviously is still continuing Since i'm still. Playing
BUT I i think the SOONER i realize how much
it means and how GRATEFUL i should be about, IT
i think the better it, is and the Better i'll,
(01:13:42):
be the Better i'll, play, honestly BECAUSE i THINK i
think when you're super grateful about, things like good things,
happen you're you're aware about certain, things you're accountable about certain,
things you work, harder you have more positive.
Speaker 1 (01:13:55):
Mindset and so, YEAH i GOTTA i.
Speaker 8 (01:13:57):
CAN'T i can't wait Till i'm older to be, like oh, Wow, like,
NO i see, NOW i see now that this is
this is a pretty big deal and that It's i'm
just really honored to be a part of.
Speaker 2 (01:14:09):
It ain't nothing like being on That mount. Rushmore, like,
man we we. Talked we were just talking To Fran, Harris,
like she's gonna be right there with Friend Harris, Man
like what an. Honor And i'm glad that she actually
sees it now and understands it now and not be
(01:14:30):
unaware until she's, older you, Know LIKE I i feel
really blessed to be in some of those, lists BUT
i was completely unaware UNTIL i was, aware and it
took me to be. Older i'm glad that she's a
(01:14:50):
young woman and living it in the current right now
and understands that's.
Speaker 1 (01:14:56):
Crazy, yeah she's she's she's a, special special, player but
she also plays with a lot of special, players and
one of those Is Madison. Booker Madison, booker who, Yes
and those are the things that make you understand what
a team truly is when you can go out there
and you have special. Players because the truth of the matter,
(01:15:18):
is she brought it. Up she's twelve hundred and seven
hundred and she's about to break The steels, record so
she's going to be in a class all by. Herself
but you also look at those. Guys those girls had
to make shots for her to be on that assist, record,
right you have to be able to score the. Basketball
she's been able to do. That but the, Coach Vic
(01:15:38):
shaeffer said it yesterday And Danny davis brought it up.
Earlier she's been on the floor since she got to
The university Of, texas and she was known as a defensive.
Person so for her to run that offense and be
able to understand the players that she has around, her
the people that make her where she. Is she talks
(01:15:59):
about her mom and. Dad her dad trained her and
did all these different. Things and then get to wrap
her arms Or vic gets to wrap his arms around
her every single, day and he gets emotional when he
talks about. Her he gets emotional when he talks about
a lot of his, girls but Watching rory become the
player that she is and being recognized for her, talent
(01:16:21):
he gets very. Misty, god there's some dust that is
in the room when he starts, talking when he starts
talking about. Her texas is up to fifteen commitments that
are signed their letter of. Intent Jerem Jermaine, bishop the
one That i've been talking, about the five star out
(01:16:43):
Of willis has been, signed, sealed and. Delivered he had
the prize of that Is dvel the quarterback From, Plantation,
florida six to two and a half five STAR, qb
the piper of this. Crew So texas now has two
five stars that are on the list to be at
(01:17:03):
The university Of. Texas, man what a. Day we'll recap.
It i'm Sure Craig wade will have all the. Recap don't.
Forget Coach shark will have his media availability today at
three o'clock recapping the signing day and of course talking
about the college football plays For Mark henry From. Marcus
i'm Harvall hart and just remember, this don't believe everything you,
(01:17:25):
see because even salt looks Like sheppy in. Peace
