Speaker 1 (02:00):
But I want to hop in to this conversation about
Tom Brady'll be in the next segment and so we'll
dive all the way into it.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
But I want you to hear from arch Manning. Dude
his time.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
Everybody's been trying to figure out what's going on with
arch Is it his arm? Is it is mental? Is
it physical? Is it something else that's going on? Is
it timing? And I want to get Mark's opinion on
this after hearing this statement, because there's been a lot
of discussion across the land about arch Manning. Arch Manning

(02:34):
went from a Heisman favorite to now his heisman odds
are thirty five to one now, so he and DJ
Lagway are going in a different direction when it comes
to heisman height. And some of that obviously was not
done by himself. It was the media believing in the
last name and everything else that was going on without

(02:55):
letting this young man get his footing, which I was
trying to tell everybody, slow you row. But here's Art
talking about the physical or the mental part.

Speaker 4 (03:08):
Probably mental, to be honest, Like, I think I just
needed to go out there and play my game. I
know the kind of athlete type player I am. Just
go cut it lose and has some fun play.

Speaker 3 (03:18):
Well, have you talked to anybody about it?

Speaker 2 (03:20):
I mean, is there anyone that's there to support you?

Speaker 3 (03:24):
I guess the last day.

Speaker 4 (03:26):
Yeah, I talked to coach Shark yesterday. We had a
really good talk and then just leaning on my family
and people in my close corner faith. Yeah, my faith obviously.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
So let me ask you this. There was something that
he said in that conversation. He said, I just need
to go out there and let it rip. I just
need to go out there and just play. And this
has been a discussion for a while because he doesn't
seem to fit the traditional mold of what coach Shark

(04:00):
likes to do. He Coach Shark has made this abundantly clear,
I don't want to major in running my quarterback. But
he's also said my quarterback likes to get hit, and
that's what really gets him going. So if Vince Young
was told to do things a certain way, oh good, So.

Speaker 3 (04:23):
What happens there? Do what I Vince say? What Evince say?

Speaker 1 (04:27):
I finally had to go to Mac and just say, hey,
just let me play.

Speaker 3 (04:31):
He had to earn that, though. I think he had
to earn it. Three years in the system. I think,
how does he not earned it? You know what I'm saying,
Like three years in the system.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
I'm looking at it the way you are right now,
like I'm not the only you gotta have fun. Yeah,
and look at Baker Mayfield. If you hit Baker Mayfield's
right now, I want to cut you right, Are you.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
Have some of that?

Speaker 2 (05:00):
You see the way he celebrates with his team. You
know most quarterbacks they throw the ball to the referee
and then they you know, wave at the craft. Arch
runs straight to his team, right. He hits them with
the thing with what they call it the folks. He
hit him with the folks.

Speaker 3 (05:19):
He need that.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
He want that interaction. So I think he want that
physical style. He want that Cam Newton, he wont that
Vince Young. He want that t bow action. If that's
who he wants to be, then maybe the conversation needs
to stop being about Arch. Who does the conversation have

(05:41):
to be at that point, right, It's about who creates
the system around the quarterback and arches with Hart and
you and I are the only two radio hosts in
this city and probably in America that told everybody last year, guys,
pump your breaks. The guys played two games against not

(06:08):
top fifty opponents. Temper your expectations is the exact words
I use.

Speaker 3 (06:16):
And you said you.

Speaker 2 (06:17):
Need to let him marinate. Those are the terms that
we use. What is marinate? Put a little season, Let
us stay here for a little while, so we could
really exorb in Archie had time to marinate, right, he
haven't had time to let the offense become him because

(06:38):
maybe it don't fit him. But they will find out
over time, and we'll all find out over time.

Speaker 3 (06:46):
But it's gonna take time.

Speaker 1 (06:49):
Right, and we all can sit there in the heat
of the action and we understand too.

Speaker 3 (06:54):
It's like, get ten incompletions. That's not good.

Speaker 1 (06:59):
I don't care how you ain't got to be running
around to complete one pass out of those ten.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
Hey on that third, after that third in completion, I'm like, hey, man,
you need to relax. Yeah, yeah, hey, you you call
to play, go out there and call the play.

Speaker 3 (07:13):
Yeah, he needs you to relax and take ownership.

Speaker 1 (07:15):
I just I'm just wondering if he's trying so hard
to fit into what is asked of him instead of
creating something that he's good at and him being able
to move around.

Speaker 3 (07:29):
And he's a big quarterback.

Speaker 1 (07:32):
He's not a little quarterback, so if he gets hit,
it's not going to be like he was a thin one.

Speaker 3 (07:39):
He's bigger than Quinn.

Speaker 1 (07:41):
He's bigger than some of the other quarterbacks that you
might have had. And right now, do we just let
arch cook. You know what I'm saying. Do we give
him that opportunity until he shows you to your point,
until he shows you can't handle that, do we do
we look at that in that instance until it's like,
all right, man, you run a little bit too much.

Speaker 3 (08:02):
Now once you get out of the pot.

Speaker 2 (08:04):
Every now and then you got to do a leak out,
like you know, just have the tackle block, have the
guard pull around and let arch roll out, and have
protection on the rollout and everybody down block they got trailing.
The ball gonna be gone already. He's just you let
him go just because you won't to have arch Archer
is running away from him. You want blockers to be

(08:26):
where Archie needs him to be.

Speaker 3 (08:29):
That's who he is.

Speaker 2 (08:29):
I think I think he's Cam Newton. I think he's
t Bow. Vince Young and you know, you see something
about those three quarterbacks. But they all won national championships.
They all well, Vince got the Heisman. Now he should
have won it when he when he had the time.
But all of them, all three of them have heismans. Vince, don't.

Speaker 3 (08:53):
We didn't Ridgie Bush get have to give his No,
they didn't Vince didn't take it either, then say no,
I don't.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
Oh he wouldn't take its Reggie, Well yeah, and Reggie
ended up getting it back anyway. But the point being,
sometimes you just got to let people go out and
be who they are and fit what they are who
they are, yeah, scheme around them. Well, Texas will be
taking on Sam Houston State this weekend and I've got
a chance to listen to the head coach Phil Longo

(09:20):
yesterday on his media availability. He has a big time
relationship with coach Sark and Kyle Flood.

Speaker 5 (09:28):
So with regards to Sark, I do know coach, but
not not personally. I mean we have we talked some
ball in the past. Could Sark and Kyle Flood and myself.
I know Cayle Flood extremely well. I have a tremendous
matter of respect for both of them. I love this
stuff Sark does on offense. I've studied this stuff for
a long time and I know it well. Uh and

(09:51):
and and Kyle Flood and I before we knew we're
on each other's schedule, you know talk, you know fairly regularly.
You know, we're will trade some ideas and I'll call
him from time to time so I I just I
love what they do offensively, and I like what he
does specifically from a from an outside the box standpoint

(10:13):
creativity wise.

Speaker 1 (10:14):
And the interesting thing is I didn't know this until
yesterday during the press availability. He recruited arch Manning for
quite some time. But he also knows Arch's grandfather, Archie,
because he was at oh Miss.

Speaker 3 (10:30):
And this is an interesting take on it.

Speaker 5 (10:34):
Uh well, you know, I got to know Archie Manning.
Who you know, There's three or four people and this
isn't to slight anybody in my life, but there's three
or four, uh people, gentlemen, you know, integrity driven people
that I know that are are among the most sincere, respectful, respectable,

(10:57):
impressive people I've met, my father being one of them.
But I would tell you that out of the four
or five people that I put in that category, Archie
Manning is one of them. And he was extremely embracing
when I arrived at ole Miss, extremely supportive, gave us
an opportunity to get to know him. I did get
to know him. We've we talk on occasion now. We

(11:18):
keep in touch everything from from football to life and
everything in between, including raising boys that in a football family.

Speaker 3 (11:27):
Since I have a son now, and and.

Speaker 5 (11:30):
I've enjoyed all those conversations, and I know what that
family's all about.

Speaker 3 (11:34):
I've met and I know Eli a little bit. I
do not know Peyton.

Speaker 5 (11:38):
I've gotten to know Cooper through Arch and through that
recruiting process a little bit. Always always was a big
fan of Arts coming out of high school. He truly
is one of the better high school guys I've seen
and had a pleasure of recruiting coming out of high school.
And so I can't say I'm excited about coaching against
him right now, but that's that's what's on the table

(12:00):
for Saturday, and so that's the guy we're gearing up for.

Speaker 1 (12:03):
Gotta get ready because I think we've got a motivated
Arch coming through and I can't wait to see it.
We're just getting started on the hump Day game Plan
edition of The Morning Kickoff coming up next. Tom Brady
conversation will not go away. We'll do a deeper dive
into it. Danny Davis of the Austin American Statesman joins

(12:24):
us at seven point thirty four, and we'll close out
the hour given our final grades versus UTEP for this
Texas football team. We're just getting started right here on
the morning kickoff on Sports.

Speaker 3 (12:37):
Radio AM thirteen hundreds.

Speaker 1 (12:39):
All you heard Longhorns baseball place here, so does Longhorns Football.
With the voice of the Texas Longhorns Craig Wag, We'll
be down on Vivo Boulevard this Saturday starting at four pm,
leading you up to networks coverage right here on Sports

(13:00):
Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone Craig Way, Roger Wallace,
and of course Will Matthews will bring you the game.
Mark I wanted to get into this conversation because we
touched on it a little bit yesterday and the news
about Tom Brady and what Tom Brady is doing kind

(13:21):
of rubbed a lot of people the wrong mean well
a lot of people too. And the thing about it
was when the camera flashed on Tom Brady in the
booth with the headset on, and then they continued to
commentate on the fact that he was in the booth,

(13:41):
it was like, Okay, what in the world, Well, he's
part owner, he's there in the owner capacity, Okay.

Speaker 3 (13:50):
And we talked about it.

Speaker 1 (13:51):
The young lady who has now taken over the Indianapolis coach.
She's on the sideline she's got a headset on, she's
writing down play, but she is not a commentator. Well,
the news came out yesterday that Tom Brady did not
violate any NFL rules by wearing a headset in the
Las Vegas coaching booth on Monday night, But they also

(14:14):
said the NFL said on Tuesday in the statement regarding
Tom Brady, who works for Fox, is prohibited from going
to the team facility for practices or production meetings, so
he's not allowed to do any of that. So he
can do pretty much whatever. There are no policies that
prohibit an owner from sitting in the coaches booths or

(14:36):
wearing a headset during the game. Brady was sitting in
the booth in a capacity as a limited partner. All
personnels sitting in the booths mustle buy by the policies
that prohibit the use of electronic devices or.

Speaker 3 (14:51):
Other rather than league issued equipment.

Speaker 1 (14:54):
Such as Microsoft Service tablet and Sideline viewing system. Was
conversation about him meeting with chip Kelly multiple times during
the week, maybe once or twice, all these different things.
So in a sense, the ire is the fact that
it looks it's bad optics for the league. It's very

(15:16):
bad optics for the league. But the league also said
that he's done nothing wrong. But to your point, you've
been caught cheating twice, therefore you may be a cheater
in those particular moments.

Speaker 2 (15:29):
You know what if he was if he was sitting
in the booth in the back, or standing in the
back of the press box like Jerry Jones always stands
around in the back melandering around.

Speaker 3 (15:40):
I'm not going to get.

Speaker 2 (15:41):
Into it, but if he was doing that, you know
what I'd be like, Well, he's he's in his right
to stand back there. He's one of the owners. But
if you got hit set on and you're talking, who
are you talking to with.

Speaker 3 (15:55):
The head set on? The offensive coordinator? Are you talking
to telling people what you're seeing? Right? That's not fair.
It's not And I'm glad that they said no.

Speaker 2 (16:10):
He shouldn't be in a production meeting, He shouldn't be
at the presser when they're asking the cause.

Speaker 3 (16:16):
That you told me that yesterday.

Speaker 2 (16:18):
You was like, oh, you know, well, they shouldn't say nothing,
No that they supposed You even told me earlier yesterday
that no, you have to be at those pressors.

Speaker 3 (16:26):
Are you gonna get fine, didn't you tell me that?

Speaker 1 (16:30):
No, I don't think I told you that, But I
said that it would be not smart of him not
to be at those things, because if he's gonna come
out and talk about the game, he kind of needs
to have it. But I also said he can watch
his own film. That's what Brady does, right. He can
develop his own kind of what he sees on the
film at all twenty two, and then he can create

(16:52):
his own narrative.

Speaker 3 (16:53):
But a lot of times he can be away from
the facility.

Speaker 1 (16:56):
He can be on a zoom call and he can
have conversations Like if he wanted to interview you and
you were on the Chicago Bears, he would do it
away from the facility.

Speaker 3 (17:06):
He would not be allowed to be on the premises.

Speaker 1 (17:09):
So if your PR or your SID for college students,
but if your PR personnel says, hey, you need to
be at this hotel to interview with Brady, you have
the right to say yeah or no, And you have
the right to is it going to be a personal
story or is it going to be about the game plan?

Speaker 2 (17:26):
Well, I'm just glad that they said he can't be
in the production meetings right, right, And I'm glad that
he can't be at the intermediate pressers because Chicago is
going to get asked by the media so this and
of course the coaches are not going to tell them everything,
but they give him something.

Speaker 1 (17:47):
Well, here's the thing too, I mean, a lot of
the information that we get when Texas is playing other people,
we're not always like That was the first interview that
I was on with Phil Longo, the coach of Sam
Houston State. That was the first one I've been on
like that as a visitor because most of the time
you just got to go and look it up and
I have Marcus pull it up and then we can

(18:08):
play it. But I'm not on those, so yesterday was
a day that we were allowed to be on those.
But I want you to hear from your guy, Marcus Spears, who,
by the way, his daughter was just named Player of
the Week and Freshman of the Week in the same
week for University of Texas volleyball.

Speaker 3 (18:26):
She keeps falling.

Speaker 1 (18:27):
That's back to back weeks as freshman of the week,
but she was Freshman of the Week and Player.

Speaker 3 (18:32):
Of hard next week. Penciled her in.

Speaker 1 (18:37):
Yeah, pal, good, Yeah, just go ahead and put her
on the map. But I want you to hear what
he had to say as somebody that has actually been
in this situation. Now as I hate him, it's abhorrent
for me for his job, I love it for his team.
You five percent owner of the Las Vegas Ratis sit

(18:57):
way over the hell you want to see it at
the game. If you want to be on the sideline
with the headset on goal setters, go be on the
sidelinehere their head.

Speaker 3 (19:03):
Coults owner, the coach owner is.

Speaker 6 (19:05):
This should not happen with him being a commentator of
NFL football games. It actually questions the integrity of the NFL.

Speaker 3 (19:14):
Now.

Speaker 6 (19:15):
Teams have to be smart and not divulge information when
he's on a call, because at some point the Raiders
are gonna play the teams that he's sitting in on
these meetings. And I don't know if anybody knows. And
you know this, there's information share when you have these
pre production meetings for games. There's plans that coaches have,
there's guys that they tell you to be on the

(19:37):
lookout for for how we'll use them. So I hate
it from that standpoint, which is why the league tried
to implement things prior to this becoming an issue with
Tom Brady being part owner of the Las Vegas Raiders.
Stephen A, you so so so, Jared Jones, go sit
in on the Giants meeting because he's about to call
the game.

Speaker 3 (19:56):
Y'all good with it? No, so while we what's the difference? Mark?

Speaker 2 (20:03):
Get that sign ready, because when I say I'm right,
I am right. O.

Speaker 7 (20:08):
Lord, I said I told you, What did I tell you?
Didn't I tell you cause I told you? And when
did I tell you a long time ago? And what
did I say? What happened when I told you?

Speaker 3 (20:21):
Exactly? What just happened? Right?

Speaker 2 (20:24):
You just said at these pressers the coaches really shit.

Speaker 3 (20:29):
If they see Brady.

Speaker 2 (20:30):
In the room, don't say nothing nothing. And I would
even bring it to the attention. I'd be like, hey,
we're playing the Raiders next week. Uh, mister Brady is
over there. So I'm going to decline answering that question.
That's where you gotta do it, because now it puts
them on front street.

Speaker 3 (20:50):
Just start just yelling snitches, get stitches. Snitch.

Speaker 1 (20:57):
But yesterday's.

Speaker 2 (21:01):
I understand because I helped produce before and I know
what happens in the meetings and the pre meetings. I
remember telling my wife, I said, did you know in
basketball they have a production meeting and the officials can say, hey,
the game is too fast, we're going to get to

(21:22):
a commercial.

Speaker 3 (21:24):
We need to tell the referees to call more fouls.
They do that. They control the game. That's why you
see coaches going to the officials going.

Speaker 2 (21:34):
I don't know what's going on right now, because the bigger,
the eye in the sky, is running the game. And
that's why they have a line in Vegas. It can't
be controlled. That's why this gambling rules are so hard
because people point shade. That's basically what Brady is doing.
If you're allowing him to sit in these meetings, he

(21:57):
can go and share informations. Not their not fair. They're
making some adjustments. People mad at me hard. You're a
Grady hater.

Speaker 3 (22:04):
No, I'm not. No, I'm not. I'm fair.

Speaker 2 (22:07):
I quit doing an Olympic sport because they cheated.

Speaker 3 (22:10):
Well I don't think that. Well, maybe they are mad
at you for that.

Speaker 1 (22:13):
Coming up next, we got Danny Davis of the Austin
American Statesman coming up next to talk all things Longhorns
right here on a hump day game plan edition of
The Morning Kickoff on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred This Zone.
Welcome back to the Morning Kickoff right here on Sports
Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone. It's Wednesday, so that

(22:34):
can only mean one thing. Our guy Danny Davis of
the Austin American Statesman joins us. You can follow them
at Underscore. Danny Davis and Danny We got into the
conversation early in the in the show talking about Arch
Manning and is it a mental thing? Is it a
physical thing? But the one thing that we've always tried

(22:57):
to talk about is sometimes guys don't fit the mold, right,
Like there's some guys that you just kind of let
play Cam Newton, Tim Tebow or even vinch Young. If
Vince Young had to be put into a box, maybe
Vince Young isn't who he is. Is this something that

(23:17):
we could possibly look at when when it comes to
Arch Manning and kind of letting him run around a
little bit more until he can find his groove.

Speaker 3 (23:28):
I guess.

Speaker 8 (23:29):
I mean at this point, like Arch just five starts
in his career and he I just don't know really
what to make of his struggles. I don't really know
what to make of the disappointment from the fans and
the media about it. Like, I think at certain points,
we just got to let these players grow up and

(23:51):
you know, figure it out. I mean, Steve is paid
and ridiculous amount of money to figure this stuff out.
Arch obviously has the pedigree, he has, is the you know,
he has the background. He's shown spurts in his past.
I mean, that Mississippi State game still exists. You know,
maybe you're just allowed to have a bad week against UTEP.
You know, I've had plenty of bad days in my life.

(24:13):
You know, he was finding in San Jose State, he
wasn't gonna get inst Ohio State. But Ohio State it's
a pretty damn good team. Like like, at a certain point,
like obviously, you know, we probably wouldn't have jobs if
we weren't freaking out about stuff. But you know, a
certain point, you know, get back to me when he's
struggling against Kentucky and October. You know, get back to
me if he moses to Oklahoma. Like I think at

(24:35):
a certain point, like we don't need to be freaking
out because he had a bad half against U teph
He was a bad half. We're not gonna sugarcoat it
and act like it wasn't. But you know, a twenty
one year old kid had a bad Saturday against UTEPH.

Speaker 3 (24:47):
What are what are we doing here, Danie?

Speaker 2 (24:49):
I've had some bad days too, unfortunately, but nothing is
as severe as what we saw in front of a
crowd where you have ten incompletions in a row, the
crowd is booing, and you still stick to the same plan.
Like when is it a time for you to change
the plan?

Speaker 8 (25:11):
I mean, when you're playing some of it's better than UTEP.
I mean, Mark, you could have been back there playing
quarterback and they would have eventually won that game. Like what,
I don't understand what people necessarily expected Steve to do there,
Like when throughout the entire game plan they were winning
at that point, they were going to win the game.
You're not going to bench Arch manning against UTEP and
humiliate him like that. I mean, what exactly was you

(25:34):
know was the plan? I mean they ran it a
little bit more in the second half. You know, they
were pretty conservative with the play calling. I think Arch
at one point really hadn't thrown the ball down downfield
until you like whipped that. I think he like whipped
it to Ryan and to Ryan down down the field
and kind of had some frustration with that throw, got
some frustrations out. But I mean they're pretty conservative with
what they were doing in the second half. But you

(25:55):
know what exactly you're supposed to do. You're not going
to bench the kid. You're not gonna you know, embarrass
him against utep Is. Texas was gonna win that game
regardless of who was a quarterback. So yeah, I don't
know what you're what exactly fans expected Steve to do,
aside from just kind of taking the air out of
the ball, which is what they did in the second half.

Speaker 2 (26:13):
Hard and I are under the impression we we definitely
don't want arch bench. We we we don't want coach
Sark to even consider anything like that. But what we
do want is for the situation to meet where he
is and if running around and doing r pos and

(26:34):
sprint outs and sprint options are a better option for him,
even though that's not the Coach Sark way, shouldn't you
kind of acquiesce to what your what what talent you have?

Speaker 8 (26:49):
Yeah, and if you know, if that calls for you know,
more RPO was more you run place for the quarterback, sure,
but at the same time, once it to Utah, like,
do you want to put your five star star quarterback
at risk for unnecessary injury when you can just get
by doing what they want? No, that's also true. This
offensive line is just figuring itself out. This is a

(27:11):
team that's down its two best running backs. The squide
receiving core is without him at Mosley, DeAndre Morris, hurt
Ryan Wingoes getting his stuff together. You have one receiver
playing well. I mean, this whole entire offense needs to
figure itself out. So I don't know if necessarily the
best thing to do is put Arch out there running
the ball and have some UTEP linebacker who is trying
to you know, get some good tape, you know, bearing

(27:34):
down on him when you when you have sec play
down the road. I mean, sometimes the best thing to
do is just get into the locker room with a win,
regardless how ugly it is, and just move on to
the next day. But if you know, if you struggle
like that against Florida, yeah you got to. You got
to make it adaptions for the games that actually it
actually matter. But you know, it's not the biggest deal
against UTEP.

Speaker 1 (27:54):
That's what That's what he's said too. He's like, well,
we gotta win. Could have been worst came to us President.
We're talking to Danny Davis of the Austin American Statesman.
You can follow him. That underscore Danny Davis. Let's flip
to the other side of the ball. Leono Lafoul. Leono
Lafoul has been very steady at that linebacker position.

Speaker 3 (28:19):
And I know that there's a lot of other big.

Speaker 1 (28:22):
Name guys that have done some things for the University
of Texas, but that young man has been standing out
all season. And I know, going back to last season,
he was one of the guys that everybody started talk
about what do you think about him playing that linebacker
position and what he brings to the to the table.

Speaker 8 (28:41):
Yeah, I mean, the younger was the guy that kind
of emerged last year. He's kind of been steadied. He
doesn't have the star power of an Anthony Hill, but
Texas obviously trusts him back there, and I think Texas
just really likes that linebacking core that they have. Whether
you have Anthony Hill, whether you have a ty Anthony
Smith who's a guy who's kind of under the rate,
are but they talk about him enough. I mean, if

(29:02):
you talk to any of the guys in the defense
and Ty Anthony, their names keep popping up and up
just because of the respect that they command within that
defensive within those defensive players. So yeah, I mean, the
youngest had a get a good season so far. They're
going to obviously need him to keep his play up
just so this season a one man lineback and co

(29:23):
with Anthony up, but if you have other guys stepping up,
you know, Steve was talking about how all those guys
have a really good dack for knocking the ball loose
and going going after the going after the football, which
we've seen throughout their careers. That's obviously stepping the right
direction with this defense, which has been playing really really
well so far the season.

Speaker 1 (29:39):
And one of the things that coach Sark wanted to
talk about as well was the emergence of Mason Shipley.
We were trying to figure out who was going to
be the guy, uh to come in and make those
kicks after what we saw with bert Auburn last year,
and it looks like they might have found their guy
with Mason Shipley.

Speaker 8 (29:56):
I mean, have they Steve seemed to trust them. They
Steve Steve Steeves refused to go for field goals when
it's a conventional uh field goal time. But sure, I
mean Mason, I think he's three for three this season.
He's you know, kind of that veteran, veteran presence, you know,
he comes to regular I mean, his brother kicked at
Arkansas last year and he obviously kicked at Texas State.

(30:17):
We'll see him actually kicking a Let's see what happens
we has to kick in the swamp, or when he
has to kick at Georgia or kicking a hostile environment,
because we really didn't see that aside from one extra
point at Ohio State. So we'll see what happens when
the pressure is a little bit more than a you know,
a field goal against you tap when you're just trying
to you know, get out of there, get out of
there with a win. But yeah, so far, so good.

(30:37):
You can see why Texas went out and got him
in the portal. But the pressure is gonna be ramped
up a little bit more.

Speaker 3 (30:43):
You know.

Speaker 8 (30:44):
Bert seemed to do pretty well when he was kicking
against nobody's It was the SEC championship game in the
beach ball that was was the problem.

Speaker 3 (30:51):
Yeah, you better get that figured out.

Speaker 1 (30:52):
Well, hopefully we get a chance to see what Mason
Shipley can do in those type of ball games. As always, Danny,
we appreciate you getting up with us man and look
forward to hopefully a cleaner victory this weekend for the
Texas Longhord.

Speaker 8 (31:06):
Thank you, Thanks Danny, see y'all later.

Speaker 3 (31:08):
All right, there he is Danny Davis of the Austin
American Statesment.

Speaker 1 (31:12):
When we come back, we'll give out our final grades
against UTEP and you'll get a chance to win a
pair of tickets to go see Judas Priest and Alice
Cooper right here on the morning kickoff on sports Radio
AM thirteen hundred The Zone. Great stuff by Danny Davis
of the Austin American Statesmen.

Speaker 3 (31:29):
Following that underscore, Danny Davis, so.

Speaker 1 (31:31):
I want to get into giving you an opportunity to win.

Speaker 3 (31:34):
A pair of tickets.

Speaker 1 (31:35):
That's right, you get a chance to win a pair
of tickets to go see Alice Cooper and Judas Priest
October to twenty fifth at the Germania Insurance Amphitheater. That's
where they had Lil Wayne last night. All you got
to do is Get over to the iHeart radio app,
tap that red microphone by am thirteen hundred the zone
and leave the key word today Cooper Cooper is your

(31:55):
key word for a chance to win a pair of
tickets to go see Alice Cooper and Judas HEAs October
twenty fifth at the Germania Insurance Amphitheater. Make sure you're
listening to the Craig waishall this afternoon. Happy belated birthday
to Craig yesterday was his birthday. He'll give you a
chance to win a pair of tickets, and of course
preview all things Texas Longhorns. As we are your home

(32:18):
for the Texas long Horns. We want to get into
the grades. Grades will be given out for what we
saw this past week. I know it's been tough for
a lot of people trying to figure out what to
make of this team. All the conversation goes back to
this team and okay, it's not looking clean. What can

(32:39):
we do differently? What can coach Sark do? By the way,
he's forgotten more football than we'll ever know. But you
do mean that you got to get everything done. So Mark,
I want to give you an opportunity to give out
your grades for what you saw this past week.

Speaker 2 (32:56):
All you know that I'm very tough, so I'm gonna
give it these grades. But I don't want to hear no.
I don't want to hear no troubles. Okay, let's go
with the quarterback.

Speaker 3 (33:11):
This week.

Speaker 2 (33:11):
This past week, I'm gonna go see minus uh.

Speaker 3 (33:15):
Running backs. I say B plus.

Speaker 2 (33:19):
The freshman came in and he looked great, and he
added to with a with a unit that lost the
running back after one play, the lead running back after
one play, and your other lead running back is already out.

Speaker 3 (33:32):
So B plus is good wide receivers.

Speaker 2 (33:37):
I say B because they they really couldn't get the
ball in a place where you can actually see what
they did. They I thought they did the best they
could do with what they had. Let's go to the defense.
Defensive line, I'm gonna go B plus. Uh. They made plays,
they stayed in their lanes. They didn't get blown off
the ball.

Speaker 3 (33:58):
B plus. No big, giant, glorious plays.

Speaker 2 (34:03):
So B plus. Linebackers B plus. They ran the field,
sideline the sideline, they made tackles, they didn't miss tackles.
They covered well outside of two or three times. But
that's expected out of every defense. Defensive backs B plus.

(34:24):
They made tackles, they stayed in front of their guys,
they didn't get bet deep, they didn't give up big plays,
no chunk plays. You had a freshman get an interception
like B plus, Special teams B plus.

Speaker 3 (34:43):
When you needed a kick, you got one. The Punny Game.

Speaker 2 (34:48):
If you separated them, I would actually give the Punny
Game an A because that guy whoa man. Every team
team in college football would love to have him.

Speaker 3 (35:03):
That's my grades, all right, Can I do I have
the great coaching too? No, you don't have the great coaching,
but you can do what you want. Mark.

Speaker 2 (35:10):
No, I'll give that them a B plus because a
lot of people we're thinking that coach Sarks, your pool
arch are, uh do something different, But you you gotta
stick to your guns.

Speaker 3 (35:24):
And the fact that.

Speaker 2 (35:25):
He's running vanilla shells stuff these last two games speaks
to the fact that he's got stuff playing for.

Speaker 3 (35:36):
The sec.

Speaker 2 (35:38):
No motion plays, no trick plays, like they're they're saving everything.
So they're just working on the stuff that's to make
their team better.

Speaker 1 (35:47):
All right, Well, I'm gonna give you basics. Mine is
the offense gets to see because there was no flow.
You had one part of it where the running game
had to be heavily relied on. And to Danny's point,
they're still trying to mesh on the offensive line. There
were some plays that were being run that nobody was
in front of them. Coach Sark talked about that, but

(36:09):
you got to go find somebody to hit. And I
thought the number. When you're a forty one and a
half point favorite and you're not even close to the number,
that's a big problem. That is a problem is that
everyone on the offensive team needs to look at Now.
I know they don't play to the number, but your
talent should have let you play to the numbers. So

(36:30):
I'm gonna give the offense a C. I'm gonna give
the defense an A because until late in the first half,
I mean in the second half.

Speaker 3 (36:38):
They didn't move the ball. They didn't move the ball
at all.

Speaker 1 (36:42):
They had few moments here and there, but nothing significant
enough that Texas should have been worried on the defensive
side on special teams, I'm gonna give them an A.
You talked about Boomeister and what he's been able to
do as far as the punting game. He was part
of the ray guy, the great guy, punter of the week,

(37:03):
and continues to put up big numbers. I also wanted
to look at Mason Shipley. Yes, Danny, I know that
he hadn't made a big kick against those types of teams,
but he hadn't been put out there and those types
of teams. So when he gets that opportunity, he's been clutched,
not clutch, but he's been accurate.

Speaker 3 (37:21):
And that's all you need.

Speaker 1 (37:22):
When we get into opportunity to kick a field goal,
kick the field goal, take the points.

Speaker 3 (37:26):
But you got to be able to make that.

Speaker 1 (37:28):
So I will give the special teams an a and
I do want to give out a player of the game.
And this is something that Texas has been talking about
quite a bit. You start to look at the punt
return and the kickoff return part of the game, those
hidden yards that you can get in special teams. You
were talking about the fact of what we saw on

(37:50):
the punting, how he's been able to pin the opponents
inside the twenty multiple times. That's a weapon. But also
in those yards you get the return. Whenever you can
bust one, you get a good return. Good things happen.
So I'm gonna give a shout out to Ryan Nibblet
as my player. Come on, man, the game for getting
an opportunity to get some returns into show a little

(38:13):
bit that, Hey Texas, because coach talked about it, we
had chances to get big returns. We just haven't got them. Well,
last week, you got an opportunity to move a football
in the rim.

Speaker 2 (38:23):
I cannot wait to see him get more touches, whether
it be the saving red type of situation where you
can run it, he can catch it, you can line
him up at wide receiver and slot like come on, man,
I can't wait.

Speaker 3 (38:36):
He's a talented, talented guy.

Speaker 1 (38:38):
Our number one is in the books, our number two
is just around the corner.

Speaker 3 (38:43):
And we'll have more.

Speaker 1 (38:44):
Conversation as the SEC matchups for the weekend. We'll also
talk infl and what in the heck is going on
with all these college football coaches. Melt Down City right
here on the Morning Kickoff on sports Radio AM.

Speaker 3 (38:59):
Thirteen hundred The Zone.

Speaker 1 (39:01):
Welcome back to the Morning Kickoff, Hour number two of
the Morning Kickoff right here on sports Radio AM thirteen
hundred The Zone and hour number one. We got an
opportunity to talk a lot about the Texas matchup against
Sam Houston State. We also covered Tom Brady and the
mess that is. We also gave out our grades and

(39:22):
talked to our guy, Danny Davis of the Austin American Statesman.
I want to get into the weekend because the SEC
has some games that are being played that I think
are going to be some important parts of the weekend.
I know that you had some games on your mind
this weekend, bigh.

Speaker 3 (39:42):
What is it called Big Noon Kickoff.

Speaker 1 (39:44):
Will be in Utah as Utah will be hosting Texas Tech.
This is a big twelve matchup. This is an opportunity
for Texas Tech to put themselves on the map. Utah
is a tough, tough opponent at home. But what Texas
Tech has been able to do in the transfer portal
getting top quality players to come there.

Speaker 3 (40:07):
I think that is a big, big part of it.

Speaker 1 (40:10):
And I know I said SEC, but that game was
one of the ones that I really wanted to focus
on a little bit too. But as you look at
the SEC and some of the matchups that are happening
this weekend, that Oklahoma hosting Auburn is a big matchup
in so many different ways. Auburn comes in as the
number two twenty two ranked team and Oklahoma is now

(40:33):
the number eleven ranked team in college football. But you
look at both of these teams and the changes that
were made. John Mattier, the quarterback for Oklahoma, is almost
to a thousand yards passing already. He gets it, he
moves around, he moves well in the pocket. He's done
some great things. But then this is a homecoming for

(40:57):
Jackson Arnold. Jackson Arnold, the former Texas i mean former
Oklahoma quarterback now is doing well at Auburn. So you
know he's gonna have some type of feelings when he
goes into Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.

Speaker 2 (41:12):
Man, you know, when you go back to the team
that shunned you, they kind of they got rid of
you in a way. You want to go and have
your best day or the pressure might be too big
and the moment might get too tight for you. So
let's see what Jackson Nornal's got.

Speaker 3 (41:32):
Harte.

Speaker 2 (41:33):
I think that that's a great reason for watching that game.
But I think the other reason is they need to
stay undefeated, yeah, both of them. So like if Oklahoma
can stay undefeated and they can stay and Texas can
stay undefeated and they go into the Cotton Bowl as

(41:54):
the number one game in college football.

Speaker 3 (41:58):
When and go up in the top three, I.

Speaker 2 (42:03):
Really do think when Oklahoma beach Texas, which I really
doubt is gonna happen, they would go up in the
top five. And if Texas wins beats Oklahoma after being
both being undefeated, they'll go back up in the top three.

Speaker 3 (42:19):
Top five.

Speaker 1 (42:21):
Well, they both got they got some tough games before that.
So just like this this Auburn matchup, what I've seen
from Hugh Freeze and what he's been able to do
with that offense, some of the athletes that they've been
able to play with, that is something that a lot
of folks are going to be tuned into two thirty
on ABC tomorrow. We'll give our predictions as we get

(42:43):
ready for the weekend. Also, another game that I'm gonna
be paying attention to is the Missouri versus South Carolina game.
South Carolina got punched in the face last week. They
need to get back by Vanderbilt, and now they got
to get back and get after Missouri, who is three
and zero in rank number twenty three. Leonora's sellers got

(43:07):
banged up last week I haven't seen anything yet about
his availability, but if he can come back out there
and play, they're gonna need him to be Superman Leonoris
and not Clark Kent Lenoris.

Speaker 2 (43:19):
Yeah, a guy that we saw last year that we
thought would win the Heisman or be in the top three.

Speaker 1 (43:24):
Yeah, he's gonna have to show up and produce on
Saturday night, six o'clock ESPN, also at six o'clock on ABC,
the Florida Gators. My my man, this is a team
that is been going through.

Speaker 3 (43:40):
Really.

Speaker 1 (43:42):
Napier, Billy Napier is worried about his job. He gets
a little he got a little testy with the questions
from the media this week as well in Miami, the
number four ranked team in the land.

Speaker 2 (43:54):
What did he think was gonna happen when he went
to the press conference after.

Speaker 3 (43:58):
That poor performance.

Speaker 1 (44:00):
I think it wasn't necessarily that he wasn't prepared for
the press conference. I think the problem was the question
that was asked in the in the tone in which
the question was asked.

Speaker 2 (44:12):
Did they ask him, coach, you think you're gonna keep
your job?

Speaker 3 (44:15):
No, they didn't ask him about that.

Speaker 1 (44:18):
They asked him about some players and was asking certain things,
and he was like, do you think He basically said,
I think I know what I'm doing. Don't think that
this guy's gonna jump this guy or this guy. It
was it was a little testy, and he was said
it was a silly question, but uh, the biggest question
is DJ Lagway, which DJ Lagway I talked about Arch

(44:39):
and now he's thirty five to one to win the Heisman.
DJ Lagway is not far from him in that that
thought process because he has struggled, and he struggled mightily.
He's got a tall task going up against the Miami Hurricanes,
who are very physical, very fast line in football. And
Carson beck looks remarkable being in a different offense and

(45:01):
a change of scenery.

Speaker 3 (45:02):
Being able to be the quarterback when you.

Speaker 2 (45:04):
Can stand back there for five seconds is pretty.

Speaker 3 (45:08):
You can't help but do good.

Speaker 2 (45:09):
Because Carson Beick, he looked like he threw a shot put.

Speaker 1 (45:14):
He was, well, he's been throwing the ball well because
he's got eight hundred and nine yards passing right now,
So eight hundred and twelve yard excuse me, passing right now.
So that's gonna be a big time matchup. Also in
I talked about the Texas Tech in Utah matchup. Another
game that's kind of under the radar is SMU and TCU.

(45:37):
Neither one of these teams are ranked, but that is
going to be a big time matchup as SMU and
TCU will kick off at eleven am on ESPN two.
We also have Arizona State making the trip to Waco
to take on the Baylor Bears. The Baylor Bears after
that first loss of the season again to Auburn or

(46:00):
they were coming back and if they would have had
a little bit more time, I think they would have
got Auburn. But Arizona State beat Texas State last weekend
and now they come to Waco and take on the
Baylor Bears. The night game Wyoming at Colorado. That game
is at nine to fifteenth. I don't know if Dion
even knows who's gonna be a starting quarterback. He played

(46:22):
three quarterbacks in one game. He played one quarterback in
the last game, and he was the third string quarterback.

Speaker 3 (46:28):
So Dion is doing some really.

Speaker 2 (46:30):
He's doing the coaching thing. He's like, look, I'm gonna
I'm gonna test y'all. I'm gonna play who I feel
like deserve to play. And that's not always good strategy.

Speaker 3 (46:41):
You want to win the game. Play to win the game.

Speaker 2 (46:44):
Herm edw Yeah, but Dion is sending messages well, and
sometimes you gotta you know, you gotta discipline people and
play with the person that does what you say.

Speaker 1 (46:56):
Well, they're doing dial up because they ain't getting their
messages because for them to go out there, Deon better
figure out a way to get some wins. And you
know them teachable moments can be at practice.

Speaker 2 (47:08):
How about get the get the ball to your stars
and you know, like that's a novel concept. It's a
novel concept, but like they're not doing it.

Speaker 1 (47:16):
Yeah, well it's different when you don't have Travis Hunter
and Shador Sanders running your offense and just throwing the
ball and letting somebody go get it.

Speaker 3 (47:24):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (47:24):
In the ACC Syracuse travels to Clemson. That game is
at noon. That's a big time matchup as well. When
you look at the Big Ten, you have Michigan at Nebraska,
Michigan number twenty one exactly.

Speaker 3 (47:41):
Nebraska is locked in.

Speaker 1 (47:42):
I told you Matt Ruhle is one of the best
coaches I've ever been around, and he is consistent with
the messaging. Also you have Illinois, the number nine ranked
team traveling to Indiana, who.

Speaker 3 (47:55):
Has been very very quiet this year.

Speaker 1 (48:01):
And people are are not They're not obviously, yeah, they're
obviously not sleeping on them. But this is a team
that last year they were getting a lot of noise,
a lot of noise, But right now they're just sitting
in the weeds and just looking there and like, yeah,
we're doing pretty good for ourselves. We're doing pretty good
for ourselves. So we'll see how all these games end

(48:23):
up playing out. But it's an exciting time for college football.
Do we have Do we have any sound of Dabo?
We do?

Speaker 3 (48:32):
That's when the coaches crash out at the end?

Speaker 1 (48:34):
Oh man, Yeah, yeah we got, Yeah, there's there's that's
what you call it. Yeah, yeah, we got. We got
plenty of dabos sound for you. Because not only Dabbo,
there's a lot of other coaches that are going through
some emotional situations this year that is very, very very

(48:56):
interesting on how they're playing it out. Because look, we
are fortunate enough that for the last couple of years,
this Texas football team has been playing at an elite level. Well,
we've not been fortunate enough over the years Before that
was when every conversation was what are we gonna do?

(49:17):
Is this guy getting fired? Who's the next coach? What
is all this stuff and so? And now the pressure
of being in the playoffs, trying to get to the playoffs,
to win conferences, to be part of a successful program.
The money that is out there, yet the temperature starts
to heat up.

Speaker 2 (49:35):
Would this fall into the champagne problems? If Texas has
a season where they go nine and three, right, you
want to lose listeners, I'm talking about nine to three. No,
I'm not listen, Bro, don't do that. Don't do that.
I didn't say that. That's what we're gonna have. What
you're saying? What like that's I'm I'm done with. You

(50:03):
can't don't don't put that out there happen.

Speaker 3 (50:08):
Yeah, don't do that.

Speaker 1 (50:09):
When we come back, we'll continue the conversations. You might
even hear from Dabbo, but you're definitely gonna talk in
f l right here on the morning kickoff on sports
Radio AM thirteen hundred.

Speaker 3 (50:22):
The Zoo.

Speaker 1 (50:25):
Coming up in the next segment where we'll have the
World's Strongest Man bringing you his world's strongest take in
so much more right now. I want to get into
the n f L. We've got NFL action starting tomorrow night.
Speaking of tomorrow night, I will be at Austin Moon
Tower Saloon down off of Manshack to watch Thursday night football.

(50:50):
Buffalo Bills and the Miami Dolphins will be going head
to head.

Speaker 3 (50:55):
And you're speaking of the Miami Dolphins.

Speaker 1 (50:57):
Oh my goodness, Marcus, we're gonna talk a little NFL football.
Can we please hear from Mike McDaniel and what is
going on with his mind? Over dear God in these congregations,
because hey, yay, yay.

Speaker 9 (51:15):
To win games, you have to win the game, not
lose the game, honestly, and that that is how you
lose the game. You're moving the you're moving the ball
down the field. You're first and ten, and then you
find yourself at second and twenty.

Speaker 3 (51:31):
What the hell did you say? What?

Speaker 1 (51:34):
What in the wide world of sports was my man
just saying, Marcus, can you run that back again?

Speaker 3 (51:42):
Please? Can you please run that back?

Speaker 9 (51:44):
Because to win games, you have to win the game,
not lose the game, honestly, and that that is how
you lose the game. You're moving the you're moving the
ball down the field. You're first and ten and then
you find yourself at second and in twenty.

Speaker 3 (52:02):
If you heard that.

Speaker 2 (52:05):
And you're the owner of the team, what do you
what do you say?

Speaker 3 (52:10):
What's your next what is your next call? What's your
next move?

Speaker 2 (52:14):
I don't do you call the general manager or do
you call the coach and go what a coach?

Speaker 3 (52:20):
Are you okay?

Speaker 5 (52:21):
Ye?

Speaker 8 (52:21):
What?

Speaker 2 (52:21):
That's the first thing you say? You say what I
would do? I would call coach McDaniel. I said, coach,
are you okay? Do we need to talk? Because I
don't want to see him ever again running on the
field at practice, in the hallways in his office, vaping.

Speaker 3 (52:42):
Well that that that is a bad look.

Speaker 1 (52:45):
That's not stopping what is in that pen?

Speaker 2 (52:49):
Because he sounded like Scooby Doode. He sounded like shaggy.
He sound high. Well, tell me he.

Speaker 3 (52:56):
Didn't sound high. I'm not. I'm not putting it out.

Speaker 1 (52:58):
Sounds like a dude that's awkwardly uncomfortable with the situation
that he is in right now. He knows that his
job is on the line. He looks like he hasn't
been sleeping. He looks like he's going through it, and
he looks like somebody that is stressed beyond all stress
because he knows that he has to win and he's
going up against the Buffalo Bills with Josh Allen.

Speaker 3 (53:21):
Is that why he's leaning on that pin?

Speaker 1 (53:24):
I mean, whatever it takes for him, I guess, But
don't do the interview because the interview he could not
make incriminate. And he's a very intelligent human being. When
you've talked to people, they talk about his intelligence. But
right now he is in a spot of disbelief because

(53:45):
his team. When you try to play with your kids
as their friends, it changes the dynamic of the respect level.

Speaker 3 (53:54):
It does.

Speaker 1 (53:55):
So this is somebody that is lacking respect in the
locker room.

Speaker 3 (54:01):
And you why do you think?

Speaker 1 (54:02):
Why do you think Jalen Ramsey wanted to go to
a team like the Pittsburgh Steelers structure and winning and
discipline and discipline.

Speaker 2 (54:11):
Yes, and hold it so he don't have to keep
his teammates accountable.

Speaker 3 (54:16):
The coach does. There, there back.

Speaker 2 (54:19):
And there there.

Speaker 1 (54:20):
There is seemingly a disconnect when it comes to the
Miami Dolphins.

Speaker 2 (54:26):
And you think that's why Treiek Hill is having so
much trouble in Miami because he's used to structure where
in Kansas City where Well he's.

Speaker 1 (54:36):
Been there long enough that he could have been able
to help structure this. But his track record ain't good either.

Speaker 3 (54:42):
Well he's not. I don't know.

Speaker 2 (54:43):
If you look at Treiek Hill and say he's a
posted child for leadership, No, no, he's not nobody.

Speaker 1 (54:49):
He's not anybody that you're gonna lean on to say,
all right, let me Letkreik.

Speaker 2 (54:53):
Hill needs to go to a team like the Steelers,
or back to Kansas City, or with a dominant coach
like you know.

Speaker 3 (55:03):
The Ravens. Go to one of the hardball coaches. It's
Tarik Hill is your guy. You're in trouble, big time trumble,
big time trump.

Speaker 1 (55:14):
But the other part of it is too when you
look at what the Dolphins are and you're in a
must win situation right now, you are in a must
win and you're on a short week, and you're going
up against the MVP and this team that looks to
be getting stronger and stronger.

Speaker 2 (55:33):
They lose this game and they start off and three
bold prediction, he will be fired on Monday.

Speaker 3 (55:41):
Hey, I'm with you.

Speaker 1 (55:42):
He is going to be fired because there's again, it
does not look like there is any solace of leadership
in there. There's nothing that you can look at this
team and say, all right, I believe that there's something
there there. There's nothing. I've watched them. I've watched them

(56:03):
play two weekends in a row. They are a bad
football team.

Speaker 2 (56:08):
You're gonna be a bad team. Go all the way bad.
Get rid of the two guys that are the problem.
Get rid of to her and get rid of uh
Tarik Hill.

Speaker 1 (56:20):
I think tour is gonna get rid of himself if
he gets hit one more time.

Speaker 2 (56:23):
Stack yourself up with Yeah, nobody's I don't want that problem.
Nobody's getting that leg lamb. I guarantee you right now, Christmas.

Speaker 1 (56:36):
No, no, no, their offensive line is worse.

Speaker 3 (56:41):
Also too cheap. Yeah yeah they're not.

Speaker 1 (56:45):
No, No, they got to get somebody that's coming off
the street selling insurance. So yeah, that's what they do.
They don't find somebody. Did you play quarterback when you
were in middle school?

Speaker 3 (56:55):
You look like you could throw like a good neighbors. Yeah,
one of those is going to happen.

Speaker 1 (57:01):
So so you start to look at that team and
you understand that, Okay, things aren't looking good for them.
But then there are some other games that will be
going on this weekend. The Dallas Cowboys will be checked
taking on the Chicago Bears. And I want you to
hear from Schottenheimer talking about what Dak has been doing

(57:24):
with his confidence. He is one of those guys that
every single week and you start to look at the
numbers and I'll pull those numbers up for you and
and what he does with this numbers and how he plays.

Speaker 3 (57:38):
Dak is playing at an.

Speaker 1 (57:39):
Elite level for all the quarterbacks in the NFL right now.
And Schottenheimer talked about the confidence that Dak is playing with.

Speaker 10 (57:48):
I mean, it's just you know that's developed over time,
and that's Dak having confidence in CD. And you know,
again I say this all the time. When you watch
a quarterback, baby, you could speak to this. Watch their backfoot.
When their backfoot is firm and loaded, or when they're
taking tight hitches to the target. You know they're seeing

(58:09):
things well and they're confident. When they kind of they're
loosing their back foot or they're they're kind of skidding
through their drop and they're feeling things or they're not sure,
they're confused a little bit. And I would say his
footwork grade over the past two weeks has been over
eighty five percent, which is really high. So I think
goes to his footwork and the fact he's just really
confident right now. He's playing with confidence and he's playing

(58:31):
firm on his back foot.

Speaker 1 (58:32):
Through week two, he's got five hundred and forty nine
yards passing, which is third in the NFL. He's got
an eighty nine point nine grade, which is second in
the NFL. He's got an eighty eight passer grade, which
is second in the NFL. He's got nine big time throws,

(58:53):
which is first in the NFL. He's created twenty eight
first downs, which is tied for second in the NFL.
And he's got an eighty six point nine gay grade
under pressure, which is second in the NFL. So as
of right now week two, I understand, folks, it's a small.

Speaker 3 (59:14):
Teason number one like that. In the first game.

Speaker 1 (59:18):
He didn't play bad in the first game. See he
kept dropping those passes. Those passes were on true. In
the fourth quarter versus the Giants, fourth quarter and overtime,
he was fifteen of twenty. He had one hundred and
eighty seven total yards. He had a touchdown, and he
had a passer rating of one one hundred and sixteen

(59:39):
point nine.

Speaker 3 (59:41):
Look, he ain't.

Speaker 1 (59:44):
He ain't the MVP, but he's battling some guys that
when you look at the numbers and what they've been
able to do, he's.

Speaker 3 (59:53):
Right up there with them.

Speaker 1 (59:54):
And if he can continue to play with confidence and
this weekend, the Cowboy take on the Bears, and the
Bears team is probably one of the worst secondaries in
football right now. If he can go out there and
play well against them, then there's a lot more that

(01:00:16):
is going to happen, and those numbers are going to
continue to inflate.

Speaker 3 (01:00:21):
And I'm here for it.

Speaker 2 (01:00:22):
I know you are. You know I haven't Mets quarterback
in the two leagues.

Speaker 1 (01:00:26):
So look at you, glowing up, blowing up, coming up.
Haven't traded him yet? Marks coming up next?

Speaker 3 (01:00:37):
Come over there.

Speaker 1 (01:00:38):
We've got the world's strongest man bringing you his world's
strongest take right here on the morning kickoff on Sports
Radio A thirteen hundred the zone.

Speaker 3 (01:00:47):
You heard the beat drops, so you know what that means.

Speaker 1 (01:00:50):
WWE Hall of Famer and world's strongest Mande Mark Henry
will bring you his world's strongest take.

Speaker 3 (01:00:58):
Take it away, big fellow. You know what time it is.
It's time for the world's strongest.

Speaker 2 (01:01:06):
Take by the world's strongest man, Marcus. Back then they
didn't know me, but now I'm hot.

Speaker 3 (01:01:16):
They are all on me. Oh hard. You're gonna love
my take today. Well, you're gonna not.

Speaker 2 (01:01:26):
Like the fact that Dak Prescott is not in it,
but you're gonna love the fact that it's about our cowboys.

Speaker 3 (01:01:34):
Oh man.

Speaker 2 (01:01:38):
For all the cowboy fans out there, I just want
to let y'all know that this take is for entertainment purposes.
It's mine. This is something that you know. I don't
want y'all to go out there and get too excited
and bet your.

Speaker 3 (01:01:53):
Mortgage on it. But the Cowboys on the uptrend.

Speaker 2 (01:01:58):
And when I say that, I say, the running game
is what we thought it was gonna be, but I
think it's gonna it's even more. The the mari and
Overshaw guys, they say maybe a week away, a week
away and a defense that really really needs him because

(01:02:25):
the Bluebirds out the Cowboy fans are calling for Matt.
He refused to be to be out of there. They
want him, they want him gone. He he recently benched
Maurice lafoll and he's the best side of the side
of the sideline, the sideline tackler on the team. With

(01:02:47):
Overshawn being gone, they feel like because they can't cover
the middle of the field is where they're having their
biggest problem on defense, which means that Diggs is coming
up and playing too close to the line and getting
beat like all of these things. I'm not making excuses

(01:03:08):
for Diggs. There's nobody that's a Cowboy fan that wants him.

Speaker 3 (01:03:11):
Traded gone more than me.

Speaker 2 (01:03:15):
I've never been a fan with when he had when
he had eleven interceptions, I said, that's the best he's
gonna get. Trade him now, because he will unlace your shoes.
He will not come up and tackle nobody. And now
you're getting beat deep. You're useless.

Speaker 3 (01:03:37):
As a corner.

Speaker 2 (01:03:39):
But I'm not gonna I'm not gonna make it about him.
I'm making about coaching iber Fus.

Speaker 3 (01:03:44):
He's gotta go.

Speaker 2 (01:03:46):
But the good thing, guys, is the Cowboys on upswing.
They have complimentary football for the first time, Oh my gosh,
hard since maybe four years ago. It's been a while
since they had a running attack like they had with
Zeke and a passing attack like they had with Dez

(01:04:08):
Bryant and Dak and now the tight end position. I
said before the season, if you are a fantasy football player,
you need to give Frederickson.

Speaker 3 (01:04:23):
He's showing up Ferguson.

Speaker 2 (01:04:26):
You need to get Ferguson because he is showing up
the Cowboys offense. If it continues to jail, they're gonna
have shootouts with everybody, and not just in the East,
but everybody that they play. We predicted that they would
win nine games, maybe ten if they're lucky and everything

(01:04:48):
works out right. But my take to day is I
am putting more stock in the cowboy business. What say you,
I'm pushing all my chips, Oh my gosh, to the
middle of the table.

Speaker 3 (01:05:08):
I didn't need you to push them all the way in.

Speaker 1 (01:05:12):
Why because I needed you to still dangle on the
outside where you were still not buying into it.

Speaker 3 (01:05:18):
You wasn't feeling the crip keeper. I don't you already tried.

Speaker 2 (01:05:24):
I want him, Eba, Flu and digs all to take
a trip together to some other franchise.

Speaker 3 (01:05:33):
On none of them. I understand that. Man. I just
look at this thing.

Speaker 1 (01:05:39):
The hope, the hope hard just use the mindset of
being able to to understand what this looks like, the
ability to go into Chicago this this week, and the
Chicago Bears are a one point favorite right now, one
point favorite cowboys on the road. And the reason why

(01:06:02):
I believe that they're a favorite is because they don't
believe that the Cowboys will travel. They don't believe that
what we saw. To your point about the defense, Ibra
flu Is coming back to Chicago, the place that ran
him out of there. Gotta go, player, gotta go. But
the problem is, to your point, the defense is giving

(01:06:22):
it up. Look, Russell Wilson thought he was back in
Seattle because he had a deal, and now they throwing
the ball deep. In all these things, Russ is now
believing four hundred and fifty our team.

Speaker 3 (01:06:38):
Can they tackle Caleb Williams?

Speaker 1 (01:06:40):
Is this gonna be a game where Caleb Williams is
gonna be able to run around and misstackles. To your
point about the linebacker not being there, this defense has
to get better. And you talking about a shootout, that's
because the defense ain't gonna be able to stop. No.
I'm just like that is again, there's always a give

(01:07:02):
and take on one side of it or the other.
This defense has to get better. Run stopping awesome, but
giving it up on the back end where you're throwing
deep the whole game, have a problem touchdown.

Speaker 3 (01:07:16):
Aubrey just kicked the field goal.

Speaker 1 (01:07:17):
That works for me too, already, yeahv as soon as
he get off the bus. Yes, he's a three point shooter. Literally,
they need to cover. Yes, Yes, he's our trick shot.
He's our ace in the home.

Speaker 3 (01:07:31):
He's your one. He's day one. That's day one.

Speaker 2 (01:07:34):
Have you seen any of the online videos of the
fans talking about Aubrey. Yeah, I don't know if I've
been that much entertained over a kicker ever in the
history of football.

Speaker 3 (01:07:47):
People are ordering his jersey. Think about that.

Speaker 1 (01:07:50):
People are ordering his jersey because they believe that he
is going to be the answer for this team. Until
your point, I don't even understand how that's even possible.
I enjoy it. Get us close, and when I buy close,
I mean seventy yards and we got a chance to
win the ball game. But I need but I need

(01:08:13):
you to stay, not not bought in. I need you
to be like nah, I need you to come in
and be like man. They won a man because when
you come. Because I don't you think I'm bad luck.
See the silence says everything.

Speaker 2 (01:08:32):
I am a ball right now at you, Mike, go
hardball hard.

Speaker 1 (01:08:36):
I have seen your picks for entertainment purposes.

Speaker 3 (01:08:41):
Yeah, I'm not very good at my picks. But this
is my heart, my heart I'm talking about. There he
is cried before there he is the world's strongest man.
Because Gates's cry to nexts cry too.

Speaker 1 (01:08:58):
Right here, Oh the Morning can when we come back,
we'll close out the show and send you to Dan
Patrick on a hunk day Game Day edition, game Plan
edition of the Morning Kickoff on sports Radio AM thirteen
hundred The Zone.

Speaker 3 (01:09:12):
What a great show we have had.

Speaker 1 (01:09:15):
We've covered it all right here on sports Radio AM
thirteen hundred The Zone.

Speaker 3 (01:09:20):
If you missed any part of the.

Speaker 1 (01:09:21):
Show, get over to our podcast page on the iHeartRadio
app or AM thirteen hundred The Zone dot com wherever.

Speaker 3 (01:09:29):
You're listening to it.

Speaker 1 (01:09:31):
Make sure you get in there and put us number
one as your preset, and of course put us number
two as your podcast selection.

Speaker 5 (01:09:41):
Mark.

Speaker 1 (01:09:42):
We talked about the coaches crashing out, and the crashouts
have been awesome. One of the crashouts that has happened
is Dabosweeney. He's getting a lot of conversation about his job,
so to speak. Decided, Hey, man, if y'all ain't happy,

(01:10:03):
get somebody else.

Speaker 11 (01:10:05):
If they want me gone, they if they tired of winning,
they can send me on the way, because that's all
we've done is win. So if they tired of winning,
we've had. We've won this league eight out the last
ten years. Is that not good? I'm just asking is
that good? I don't know if that's good or not?
To win your league eight out of ten years, to
go to playoffs seven out of ten years, being four
national championships, went twice. Yeah, we little down right, Now

(01:10:28):
take your shots. But I got a long memory. Case
y'all don't know.

Speaker 3 (01:10:33):
We'll be all right. We'll bounce back.

Speaker 11 (01:10:35):
This is a program built to last, always has been,
always will be.

Speaker 3 (01:10:39):
And I would just say, if.

Speaker 11 (01:10:41):
You give up on us, if you don't believe on us,
because we've lost two games down to the last trade
and we're wanting. You didn't believe in us anyway, so
it don't matter. You wasn't all in anyway. If y'all in,
you burn the ships. Man, you ain't there ain't no
exit strategy, like you're freaking all in. And hey, listen,
I mean Cumpson's tired of winning. They me on my way,
but I'm gonna go somewhere else, and coach, I ain't

(01:11:03):
going to the beach. Hell, I'm fifty five. I got
a long way to go, y'all gonna have to deal
with me for a while, A long way to go.

Speaker 3 (01:11:10):
I'm just getting going.

Speaker 11 (01:11:11):
I'm just now good enough to be a head coach.

Speaker 1 (01:11:16):
That boo said, I'm just getting go.

Speaker 3 (01:11:21):
Coach. That was a wrestling promo, that's what he is.
Oh my gosh, that was so good. That was the
best thing I heard all of yesterday.

Speaker 2 (01:11:33):
Yep, and I couldn't wait to get here today because
I wanted I definitely wanted you to play that.

Speaker 3 (01:11:40):
Oh my god, that guys.

Speaker 2 (01:11:41):
I'm crying like it's real, tears coming out of my eyes.

Speaker 3 (01:11:45):
He can go somewhere else.

Speaker 1 (01:11:46):
He meant that he can go somewhere else, he said,
you mean when Yeah, I mean we went four times
we won too. Hey, don't get him going we down.
Now take the shots, take your shot, gonna be out
of here.

Speaker 3 (01:12:04):
It's okay. I'm gonna go somewhere else. I'm young. I'm young.
I'm just now getting quantified to be a head coach.
I'm just now getting my calluses. I'm in here. I'm
in here.

Speaker 1 (01:12:15):
But I want you to hear Brian Kelly, because Brian
Kelly is the other one that I wanted you to hear.

Speaker 3 (01:12:20):
Not so funny.

Speaker 1 (01:12:21):
Brian Kelly was funny too, because he was mad after
the victory, and basically he's said, y'all spoil I want.

Speaker 8 (01:12:28):
Me to tell you. I just laid it out for you.
We played the game to win the game. We played
the game to win the game.

Speaker 3 (01:12:37):
All right.

Speaker 5 (01:12:37):
How about third down? Man?

Speaker 3 (01:12:38):
What is going on with third down?

Speaker 8 (01:12:40):
It's one game. Last game, we were.

Speaker 3 (01:12:43):
Great on third down.

Speaker 8 (01:12:44):
You're micro.

Speaker 3 (01:12:46):
You're looking at this from the wrong perspective. L s
U won the football game one one for me.

Speaker 8 (01:12:53):
What do you want?

Speaker 12 (01:12:54):
You want to win seventy nothing against Florida to keep
you happy.

Speaker 8 (01:12:58):
I think you want to know why you can't run
the ball.

Speaker 3 (01:13:00):
We can run the ball.

Speaker 8 (01:13:01):
Did you see the last play of the game.

Speaker 3 (01:13:03):
That's all you need. You just need one.

Speaker 12 (01:13:07):
There's some ridiculous questions, and I'm getting tired of it.
That football team just worked their tail off to get
an SEC win.

Speaker 3 (01:13:17):
And you want to know what's wrong? You know what,
You're spoiled. You're spoiled.

Speaker 12 (01:13:22):
This team is seventeen and one at night, seventeen and one.
Give him some respect? How about that? Give him some
respect instead of micro analyzing every real thing.

Speaker 11 (01:13:34):
This is ridiculous for a group of season reporters.

Speaker 12 (01:13:40):
That kind of question is so.

Speaker 3 (01:13:41):
Outline wouldn't happy either.

Speaker 2 (01:13:46):
Hey, he wasn't happy, but he was actually right, Like
the way that the guy, I mean, what happened to.

Speaker 3 (01:13:55):
Last play the game? Like what twenty yard?

Speaker 1 (01:13:56):
They won the game on the running play and shut
the game downright.

Speaker 3 (01:14:00):
Shut the game down?

Speaker 2 (01:14:01):
Like so why are you why are you punching him
in the face. It's a hard SEC fight regardless. Any
when you get into SEC, it's a big deal. And
coaches are a little spoiled and entitled. Coach they are,
they always have been.

Speaker 1 (01:14:22):
Well, he's talking about he's talking about the fans and
the reporters. He said that y'all are spoiled. Y'all are
getting spoiled because you're used to certain things.

Speaker 2 (01:14:34):
You have to you have to spoil somebody. I tell
my kids all the time, y'all, y'all.

Speaker 3 (01:14:39):
Have no idea. How good y'all have it.

Speaker 1 (01:14:42):
Well, that's basically what he's saying to them. They've had
it for years, Like you've been enjoying opportunities to play
extra games because your team has been good, you won
national championships. It's just like getting to the super Bowl.
Don't happen all the time. A lot of good teams,
And there's a lot of parody in college athletics now

(01:15:04):
because of it. Yes, we can all look at the
University of Texas and think that they should be playing
at this level against subpar opponents. I agree with that,
But when you get ready to go into this SEC gauntlet,
everybody's the same.

Speaker 3 (01:15:22):
Yeah, and you can't hold back then.

Speaker 2 (01:15:25):
But right now, I don't want them to have film
every week of me doing all my stuff. Oh that's
how you stop it. No, I want you to. I
want the teams at the end of the season. Georgia
and Arkansas and A and M are the teams that
are going to benefit everybody else. Y'all gonna get a
raw deal. Yeah, because I'm not showing all my stuff.

Speaker 3 (01:15:46):
It is a different, different look.

Speaker 1 (01:15:48):
And these coaches have been through a lot when it
comes to the expectations of the fan bases, and no
expectation is even follower than them when it comes to that,
so exciting exciting times.

Speaker 3 (01:16:05):
Tonight, I will.

Speaker 1 (01:16:06):
Be in Georgetown at the grand opening of the new HGB.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
